in class group work that is 20% of final grade. gives 15-20 minutes to do it, VERY specific criteria he wants. be sure to show literally ALL of your work on these assignments or risk getting 50% or less on them.
You have to print your own notes (I recall around 50+ front and back pages), digital tests you receive no partial credit for, and difficult to grasp lectures.
Professor Pinon was a very good professor. It is basically an online math class with one day of notes. You do kinda have to teach yourself but you can always email him any questions or visit his office and he is more than happy to help and explain. Requires good time management but is definitely not impossible.
He wasn't a bad teacher, but you are teaching yourself. I started out by watching the modules and prezi's but stopped after a while and struggled, which is completely my fault. Easy class if you're good a math.
Dr. Pinon was a very good professor, the hw, quizzes, and tests are all online. the classroom lecture on Wednesday was life-saving. he's really good at teaching the material and is clear despite his French accent. He checks grades on when in the studio and actually shows you how to do the problems you missed on the hw/quizzes
If there wasn't a group assignment due at the end of every class I would not have attended. If you are not already comfortable in math do not take this professor. If it wasn't for my endless hours at the math lab on campus and previously learned math skills I wouldn't have passed. refuses to work with students. explains concepts once and moves on.
Group work was unfairly graded if one part of you work wasn't shown he takes points off. if youre not good in math don't take him. his accent makes it hard to understand and his handwriting is even worse. you print your own fill in the blank notes that don't help you since its basically copy and pasted from the text book. tests are hard weigh heavy
Dr.P was a very friendly and kind professor so i feel bad for rating this, but honestly if you're not already strong in math then this class is not for you don't take it! The class is basically 100% online minus the in class notes, attendance is a grade both in class and studio. You will basically teach yourself.
Dr. P really cares if you pass his class or not. He may not be the best teacher if you are not good at math, but if you have an ok handle on it you should be fine. He can be hard to understand at some points, but if you are confused about anything go to his office hours and he will help you figure it out. I liked him, but wouldn't take again
If you take this class, you better be prepared to do some learning on your own. Impossible to understand him with this horrible accent. DO NOT take him. NOooooo!
Dr. P. is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. His what he teaches in class is 100% different from his test which is 100% different than his homework and test reviews. He is rude and disrespectful to students during office hours. I DO NOT recommend you take this class. Please save yourself the time and hassle. He is horrible.
He's very smart and has a sense of humor, but the 4 tests make up your whole grade and he makes you memorize 40+ formulas. I am a B student in math usually but I had to study a crazy amount to pass this class. There are 3 activities that are a large % of your grade & he doesn't tell you when they are and you can't make them up.
Pinon is not a very good teacher, up until this point I have been amazing at math. Ive gotten 95 and above on every single math class until I was in his class. I study constantly and still struggle with this class.
Literally the worst math professor I've ever had. He would teach us something that wouldn't be in the homework or on the test. His idea of a review is it to be "test like conditions" so we can't ask him questions. He would constantly make mistakes in class that would confuse everyone, I had to hire a tutor just to make it through his class.
This class is fairly easy if you show up to class and pay attention. The professor does a good job of teaching the content and helps students with whatever they need. The pop quizzes are the hardest things in the class, and the tests are fairly simple if you do the homework. There is a lot of online homework. Overall, great teacher and a funny guy.
Really hard to have a conversation with this guy and he doesnt show you any of your grades until the official date to post and makes many mistakes on grading and study guides. I would honestly stay clear of this professor!!
With Dr. Pinon, the best option to pass his class is to read and take notes from the book on your own prior to lecture. You can attend his class, but he is so fast and does not stop his lecture to clarify any issues students raise. During COVID-19 pandemic and transitioning online Dr. Pinon did not communicate or continue to teach his students.
First of all, trig was the hardest math class I have ever taken. I myself, am not good at math and never have been, however I managed to get a B thanks to Phillip. He was very helpful and always answered my questions and emails even at 11pm on a Sunday. This math class is very hard and lots of formulas to memorize. You'll pass if u actually study.
Dr. Pinon certainly knows what he's talking about but when I asked for help (at the request of tutors who couldn't help me) his response was not in layman's terms and not even the tutors could decipher his response. He does respond quickly to messages for help though. He'd be great if he could just dumb things down for non math majors.
possibly the worst professor I've ever had. absolutely no interaction, doesn't use canvas. tests are nothing like the homework or what he tells you to study in the syllabus. don't do it, it'll ruin your gpa. if I could give 0 stars I would, seriously. horrible prof.
I would not recommend him at all. If you need extra help or a little push he will not give it. Not the nicest professor ive had. He barely sends any emails to give you heads up on assignments and he doesnt even use canvas. I definitely struggled bad in this class.
It's not a hard class if you know your stuff, very little interaction and basic algebra. The homework isn't too bad but no examples and barely gives help only after the fact, he's "straight from textbook" kind of guy. Which was kind of annoying because it didn't help. So you don't NEED the textbook, but I would recommend cellphone calc apps.
Gave me every resource to succeed.
Pros - replies emails quickly - gives feedbacks after quizzes, exams - you'll have unlimited chances to answer homework questions so if you try hard you will get 100% on every assignments. Cons - tough tests - does not give late work grades nor extra credits - no lectures, I had to learn stuff on my own with a textbook and videos he posts
If you willing to work hard, he is willing to help you. Homework is very important to do, and so are the assessments! Test question are exactly from homework, you just have to remember what you've studied. He is very helpful, and will make effort in teaching you in the zoom meetings if you decide to schedule. Textbook is helpful as well.
Awesome teacher.
Professor Pinon is very good at answering emails real quick. If you do all the homewok you'll be fine.
He makes learning Math very easy. He is very good at what he does. This teacher is a must choose, especially if you struggle with math like I do
I'm not too good at math but he made me better at it.
Dr Pinon was an absolutely amazing professor. I had trouble understanding Calc 1 which I took with different teacher but i was able to do well with him. I really can't say enough great things about him, the class can be challenging since it's upper level math but if you show that you care he will work with you in every way. Thumbs up
Taking online course because immune compromised. This professor doesn't give video lectures.. Its no secret math online is much more difficult than in person. But this professor does nothing to alleviate the disadvantage we have of learning online. We are paying a professor but teaching ourselves.
If you have ever struggles in a math class, this is the perfect instructor for you. He always answers email quickly and his explanations are super clear. There really isn't enough room here to explain how great of an instructor he is!!
Awesome instructor
Is always willing to help!
As someone who has always struggle in math, I would definitely recommend Dr.P.. He give plenty of time to complete homework and answers any questions before giving tests
Awesome teacher! I'm terrible with math and had a B in his class!
Great teacher, always available.
Helpful
Wants people to succeed. Very willing to help students.
Wants you to succed. Gives you ample opportunities to ensure a good class grade!
i think hes a good person. he makes math very easy!
Fairly easy class. Prof. Pinon is very nice, especially if you are an athlete.
Really cool teacher
Dr.P. is quite simply the best mathematics instructor I have met. He is also very personable, and it shines through in his lectures and one-on-one interactions. His in-class exams are by no means easy, but having him as a lecturer more than justifies this difficulty. I could not recommend him more highly - for any class.
Pinon Rocks. Tests are tough but he is a fair grader. Attend every class and do all the problems he assigns. He makes you work for it but getting an A is very possible.
This man is a great teacher and excellent advisor. Everyone should take him AT LEAST once!
He is the best professor in the entire mathematics department. He is VERY helpful, always willing to go above and beyond for his students. Take him every chance you can, you will be better off for it!
Great teacher, very enthusiastic and eager to answer student questions. Always in a happy mood :)
A real good professor who really cares about students.
HE IS AWESOME! He helps his students in EVERY way he can. He hangs with you until you got it. TAKE HIM!!!!!
Great teacher, he was very helpful and the way he taught the material was very easy to understand
extremely helpful. works with students schedule. GREAT TEACHER - goes above and beyond.
Good Teacher! Makes math easier to understand. Uses helpful shortcuts to get to the answer! Pretty Funny as well.
the class is precalc and trig together in one class, online. Hardest class ever. All the professor does is tell you to rent a book, do his homework's he assigns you, and email him if you need help. Possible to pass with an A if you work VERY hard throughout the week. Homework's don't pull from the book even though the professor claims they do.
Mr. Pinon is a good teacher. He explains things clearly and is very easy. Take him for MATH!!! Highly, RECOMMEND HIM!!!
Dr Pinon is absolutely amazing! I took his class and I ABSOLUTELY HATE MATH but he made it interesting and I was able to grasp the knowledge necessary to succeed in his course. If you have an opportunity to be a student in his class I would advise you to do so!
The best professor I have ever had!! I failed the class because I did not put in the time it needed. Prof Pinon is very good at explaining problems and takes pride in making sure the student understands the math problems. He makes himself very available to the student outside of the classroom. A very patient and understanding professor and he's sup
Great teacher
I took Professor Pinons class because of positive reviews on ratemyprofessor. I would not recommend Professor Pinon to anybody. Tough grader and has to be dragged by his bootstraps to be involved in the class or give any help. Any resources provided by professor P are incomplete at best and do not help you complete or succeed on the homework.
I loved DrP, he was hilarious, and made all the super easy material even more easy.
Awesome instructor for calculus 1. Extremely fair. Understands the majority of students are not math majors. He is beyond brilliant and makes a difficult subject easy to understand. Wild sense of humor! Do homework, ask questions, and enjoy class.
To put it bluntly I'm horrible at Math. MAC 1114 was required so i had to take it, and thankfully someone like Dr. Pinon taught it. He's funny and makes a sometimes difficult subject easy to understand. He offers his office time to whoever needs it. I struggled through MAC 1105 so when I got to 1114 I was nervous, thanks to him I got a B!
excellent teacher
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR. I took the online version, so I expected to be working without lectures, but I at least expected to have the proper material provided to complete the class. Not only was this not the case, but the questions were so convoluted that it took solid days to figure out single questions. If you care about your GPA, STAY AWAY
great teacher :
Professor P is good at math. However, his teaching style is sub-par. Honestly, I would have dropped the course had I not needed the credit. He doesn't do video lectures. Homework questions were from the text book, but from seemingly random chapters. Some questions were so hard, the SF tutors could not solve them. Oh, and sometimes the quiz is wrong
The worst instructor I have had my entire college career. Not helpful whatsoever. Yelled at students when they asked questions. Homework is nearly impossible. All around horrible teacher. Wildly intelligent, but bad at teaching. It happens. Avoid him if at all possible. Retaking the course after a horrible summer with him.
I took the class for a few weeks before dropping. I dropped for a few reasons. Pinon screamed and lost it at a student whose phone went off first day. He very briefly explained concepts and moved on quickly which overloaded students with concepts that they did not understand fully. Had I stayed longer maybe he would have shown himself better.
I'll start by saying I am terrible at math and the nature of this class is beyond my abilities, that is the reason I withdrew. But this professor is one of the best I have come across. He is always accessible in the learning commons, he is gentle when explaining and very caring of his student's success. He has a funny sense of humor and is kind.
Dr. P made me more confused than I already was about math. He would stand in front of the board when doing problems making it hard to learn as he had already moved on to the next step by the time you see what he did. He also faces the board when he speaks and talks fast making it difficult to understand what he says.
was a very good teacher, I recommend this teacher because he is very helpful and grades very fair.. Very clear presentation and explanation of math material..
He genuinely wants his students to understand the subject matter.
One of the best teachers I have had at SF! He teaches an extremely hard class but is brilliant.
Knows his stuff and cares about his students.
Anyone who doesn't do well in this class probably should change their major. He's an amazing teacher and I would recommend his class!
I was fortunate to learn from Professor Pinon. He really pushes his students to do the best they can do.
Honestly the best math teacher I've had. Even those in my class who typically struggled with math were able to understand his lectures.
He's very good at breaking things does for you to understand.
Dr. Pinon is a highly educated individual, however, does a very mediocre job elaborating on how to do certain concepts. Notes have little to no correlation with homework/quizzes. Tests are taken from concepts covered in HW but HW is nearly impossible without YouTube or Chegg explanations. Wouldn't recommend taking this professor.
If your major requires Calc, I highly recommend this class. Dr.P is a fantastic professor. His course isn't an easy A, but you'll know trig front and back by the end of the semester if you want. 6+ hours/week for studying/homework. Dr.P has office hours almost daily. No extra credit. Tests/homework are online. Don't buy the textbook.
Hes clear and to the point. He goes fast but it is all understandable and he knows what hes doing to say he least!
All the math is online so you have to be perfect with your answers. He's a nice dude but also doesn't teach everything on the tests and homework. You have to always be paying attention and taking notes.
I failed this teachers class but it was my own fault. Based off how good he is at teaching and how clear his grading/mark scheme is I should have gotten 100.
He is the best math teacher I've ever had. Friendly, funny, clear, great lecturer.
if you have already taken calculus 1 then it should be easy with him. however if this is your first time, you better start studying for the final from day 1
He's a great instructor! He knows exactly what he's talking about, and always makes sure that everyone understands how to do everything, and is always willing to help when you need it!
His assignments and tests are very reasonable. You won't be surprised about any questions you see on tests!
Guy puts a lot of effort into his classes and it shows. He's a natural in the classroom and his students can see it everyday. His method of teaching make his lectures almost essential to passing. Fantastic teacher.
Amazing prof! makes everything crystal clear and easy to understand when teaching.
Excellent Teacher. Really knows his stuff and has a great ability to teach it to his students. Really found his calling in becoming a teacher!
he's the best!
highly recommended if you want to learm math
Best Teacher. really easy tests. JUst do your homework
A TASTE: 85% of the class failed the second exam and he blamed us for failing The homework is not what he teaches in class. Overall, worst teacher i have had
He makes Trig Easy. Lot's of energy.
I hated math so much but then I took Dr.P. and it changed everything! He is amazing at what he does. He is so easy to understand and his notes are so helpful! I have a new appreciation to math that I didn't have before . He's not easy but his notes are extremely clear and helpful which makes it easy.
Dr. Pinon is extremely helpful, especially if you go to his office hours for homework help. Seems to really care about his students.
Very good teacher! Highly recommend this professor.
extremely helpful
great teacher :)
I recommend him to EVERYONE.. if you get a chance to take him, do so! He is so easy to understand and very helpful. He will even go back over the things you did the day before in class. Have quizzes and homework, DO HOMEWORK!! Great teacher!
He was a great teacher. His notes are very descriptive and he is really willing to help you, if you're willing to ask. I would highly recommend him.
He was a great teacher. His notes are very descriptive and he is really willing to help you, if you're willing to ask.yI would highly recommend him.
This was a good class. If you send him an e-mail, he will gladly help you in any way he can.
Very nice and clearly explains. he's very helpfulllll.
He really cares about his students. You should be ready to take lots of notes, that will help on the tests, quizzes and homework.
I hated him at first. It was overwhelming, confusing, and I was totally lost. I spent 4-5 hours a week on homework, including 2 hours in his office hours, and got a 100% on every exam. I learned the subject. My brain grew. He sets high expectations but wants students who participate to succeed. Work hard and ask for help and you'll succeed.
Good teacher
I had Dr.P. for my math MAC1114 class and loved it.. He was very helpful as long as you did your work and took notes.
Great guy, will help you as much as possible. Doesnt grade hard. If you struggle with math like many people do take him
Great math professor! Definitely don't know if I could have passed without him. He is very interested in his students and helping them as much as possible. Very generous grader, will give partial credit if you attempt a problem.
I can honestly say I hate math and I am horrible at it but Dr.P. is so helpful! He shows you how to do everything step by step and is more than happy to help with your questions! BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!
I would highly recommend taking someone else for trigonometry. I found his teaching style very difficult to learn from and he gives a crazy amount of homework. (Expect up to 100 homework questions per week) He seems to be okay for other classes but if you're not a math-minded person I'd take someone else for trigonometry.
I took this class at UF and Santa Fe, I can say with certainty that this is the WORST professor I have ever had in my entire schooling. He would teach things and then completely flip on you during the test. It was an awful class and I had never failed a class before in my entire school career. Do NOT take him for calc 1! Pls, do not!
He's nice, helpful, kind and funny
Professor P is one of a kind. I hate math and I am scared of it. Trust me if he see's that you are making progress on tests then he will pass you. Plus if you do all of your homework then you get a C. Without Professor P I will not be graduating.
I am horrible at Math, but Profesor P taught the class very well, and I was able to follow along, and make a B.
Great teacher, cares about his student
Very helpfull teacher. Willing to help anytime. One of the few good math teachers. I would take again.
this guy is very easy and very nice. I have went to his office no telling how many times to get math help and he is always willing to help.
He is very helpful. I was horrible in math and ended up with a B. If you have the chance take him.
I loved his class. I was taking 2 maths and it was hard. However, I passed his class. Just because he was understanding and would help you out anyway you can. TAKE HIM, HE IS A GREAT TEACHER!!!!! YOU WILL PASS ANY CLASS THAT YOU TAKE FROM HIM!!!!!!!
Absolutely awful. Never elaborates on anything in the class , could not solve anything. Dr.P had us doing physics in trig on topics we did not learn at all and, not even close to related to trig itself. Expects way to much of students and, does not give the input back properly. DONT TAKE
Dr. P does not take any time during class to stop and ask if students have questions, and even if you do he won't answer, he will simply restate what he did again and continue to move on. I have reached out for help several times and he repeatedly told me he won't help with any questions from the lecture because I should've learned from class.
Does not interact with his students AT ALL during class. He faces the whiteboard and lectures to the wall the entire time. His body frequently blocks us from seeing what he writes. The lectures are.. somewhat helpful, but the bulk of the learning will be done from your textbook. This should have been an online course if he wants to teach this way.
If you do what he says: pay attention in the lecture & ask questions, read the textbook, then do homework; his class is managable and you'll learn alot. He is at the learning commons every day till 8pm and will sit there with you and help you with whatever you don't understand. Tests are much easier than homeworks, he does that on purpose.
The first day of class, we dove right into it. It took me a couple weeks to get used to his class. I did struggle at first, but once I got used to it, the class was a little more easy-going. He encourages us to utilize the learning commons, and he is in there to help us. The homework is harder than the tests, which was on purpose.
Very homework intense. Each lesson has 20 question HARD homework problems on Myopenmath and then a 5 question quiz. 4 lessons a week on average, sometimes 3. The workload was too intense. Also, if you get one question wrong on the homework its graded on accuracy, not completion.
Great Teacher, really helps out in Math
Awesome professor. Tests are pretty simple if you do the homework. I would reccommend taking him.
He is helpful. I really enjoyed his lecture. He is so funny!!!
Dr. P is a very intimidating professor and he once asked me if i even passed college algebra. He has an insane amount of homework and when i went to his office hours he was rude and seemed annoyed that i was there. i would not recommend him because he sets students up for failure most of the time.
If you get a chance to take Dr.P, you will not regret it.
Very helpful
Very Easy, would highly reccomend
Dr.P is the BEST! He genuinely cares about his students and is passionate about what he teaches. Hes very stoic at first but trust me he will go above and beyond to help you. Don't even think twice and take his class! Review the section each day, do the homework, and go to the learning commons(he tutors there as well!) if you need help!
this professor is a challenge, it is going to be very difficult at first so be prepared to take 2-3 hours a day for HW and quizzes. test aren't bad but at the end of it, you will learn everything truly. suppose you do not study most days of the week you won't pass.
Best math professor I've had....
Professor Pinion in all opinion was one of the best professors I had. But, when I tell you that you have to work for your grade- you really do.
