I LOVE him.
Not very helpful
No Comments
Not helpful at all, makes you look stupid. Don't take him unless you want someone to stare at you.
He doesnt appreciate questions and talks in a very monotone voice...makes you fall asleep. He looks at you like you're stupid and probably calls us ****es when we turn our backs. VERY tough grader and nit-picks.
Challenging class, excellent teacher. better off taking 131 and 132 than 161 though
Take some booze to class, it makes it more fun...
Yea...what can be said about this guy? Creepy in a weird sort of way. He knows his stuff, but makes u feel like ur stupid.
Excellent Teacher! Would recommend him to anyone. Is willing to do anything to help.
I can't say that he was the most interesting guy, but he loves chemistry and if you love chemistry you'll relate. If you don't, you'll fall asleep! He is very helpful though and you have to laugh at his dumb jokes simply because they're dumb =)
Fantastic
Very interested in chemistry
Nice guy, knows his stuff, he sounds like Ben Stein but it makes it funny, other than that if doing what needs to get done from prelab you should always get an A on the labs
The Best Chemistry Intructor at CMU. His Classes are fun, he will keep you awake!!!!!!!
Squattrito is a god.
A Wonderful Prof. He really cares! Great Guy... Very interested in what he teachers. Pay attention in class and do the homework. SI might help too. He's just great!
Really great prof, very nice and helpful.
He's not a bad instructor, but could be a lot better. He acts like he'd rather be elsewhere than in class and slightly annoyed if you ask questions. The labs aren't hard, but he nitpicks so bad that an A lab turns into a B- in no time. I understand that chemistry needs to be a near-exact science, but he's rediculous about it.
He is not a very good professor, yet he still expects us students to be able the know things were well. I also get 100 %,but that is after studying very hard. Last semester I didn't even have to touch the book, but I have to read every page now. Reading the book is better than him teaching too.
This is one of the best CHM profs here at CMU. If you can, take him for CHM 132. He does multiple examples on the board. Will answer questions and always has his door open. Office hours all the time. He really wants you to do well. He expects you to learn the material. It isn't a cake walk, but he makes you want to do well in the class. Great Prof.
This prof is one of the best at CMU. Take him for CHM 132 if you can. Tons of examples. Office hours all the time. He's like a cross between bill nye and ben stein. Great Prof. Knows his stuff.
He is very hard on the tests and quizes. Be careful and be sure to study alot before the quizes. Also he likes to write test questions that are really tough.
This was my second course in Chemistry. Dr. Squattrito has helped extend my knowledge of chemistry. He's a pretty funny guy and was nice when I asked him questions. The tests are a little difficult since they make you think, but I have done very well (100%) on all of them. If you do all that is expected, you will do well on his tests and the Acs.
He's good, but a little difficult on his tests
I studied all semester for this class and got an A. He's one of the better prof's I've ever had (open office hours, good notes, etc.). I would say to read and re-read the book and notes many times before the tests - literally for a couple of days. If you don't understand the book just reread it.I got a B+ in chm 131 so I was shocked I did so good.
he's a pretty good prof. he gives good examples, but not very organized notes. theres are weekly online quizzes that it didn't like, but that was mostly blackboards fault. the tests are moderate, but if you study, you will do well.
he's pretty good. he explains things well. Tests are challenging, but like all tests, if you study, you will do well.
This class was supposed to be hard, but if you've taken AP Chemistry in high school you will be perfectly fine. Squattrito will try to help you if you need it, just go to his office hours. In class I never used my book, just the notes I took. You can get away with missing class here and there, just not for long periods of time.
Pretty good teacher, but i hated the online quizes. You should attend classes because that is how you can learn the material. The book is really confusing so going to class is the best idea.
It has been a few semesters since I have had Squattrito(I am a junior now) but he is still probably my favorite Chemistry professor at Central. His test can be a bit demanding, but he is just making sure you really understand what is going on. If you have a question ask, because he will go back over it if he needs to.
Quirky guy, but is very likeable in lecture and at times entertaining. Tests were much easier than my 131 teacher (Torm.) if you put in the time. He's not unreasonably hard, but you must do the work and study. GO TO LECTURE: it's very useful when studying for the test. I would definitely take him again.
He does not give online quizzes anymore so the tests are what make your grade. The tests are difficult and require a lot of studying. He is a good teacher and explains the material well so if you go to class and study at least a couple day in advance before the tests you should do fine. He is probably the best professor for this course so take him
always funny and nice, very easy to understand
Took 331 with him. Only 12 people in the entire class. Lab as ok, stayed almost the entire time but was let out when you complete the experiment. Lab notebook gradings are the only grade you get besides test. The tests are over applying the knowledge, not just what was on the notes. Hard but do-able.
The final contained information that was never presented... he expects you to know random things about elements. Only about 12 people so you have to go to class. I think a B is very manageable. He is a bit awkward.
Squattrito is probably one of the best professors I've had here, so far. He presents the information well, and is available to help if you need it. He is super flexible with deadlines, especially for OWL. His exams aren't too overly difficult. If you ever have the opportunity, take him. You won't regret it.
He was a superb at explaining everything in class. Well organized, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. One of the best professors I've ever had. I hate chem, but he made it easy to understand.
He was a superb at explaining everything in class. Well organized, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. One of the best professors I've ever had. I hate chem, but he made it easy to understand.
This man is a godsend from chemistry. Not only does he explain things well and thoroughly, he wants to teach you and test you on the concepts rather than being able to just plow through number calculations. I know other profs to have all calculations but not Squattrito. He really knows what he is talking about and he makes the class enjoyable.
I hate chemistry but I have to say... this professor made it less painful. He actually explained how and why things worked and didn't just focus only on calculations. He was helpful and he cares about his students. Better than Fahlman!
He's a very sweet professor! He definitely cares about his students and gives so many chances for students to come in and ask questions and has a great review session before every exam. I was really nervous about chemistry, but he has been super helpful.
Dr. Squattrito is so nice and passionate about Chemistry. I'm really glad I had him for Chem.
I absolutely love Dr. Squatritto. He is very passionate about Chemistry and always available if you need help. I would greatly recommend him.
Dr. Squattrito was a great professor. He was always available outside of class if you needed/wanted extra help, and he encouraged you to come for extra help. He teaches clearly and completely on a subject, and the owl (though a pain to do at times) was helpful to support his class. I wish he taught more classes that I need.
There are several pros and cons about Dr. Squattrito, PROS:mastering chemistry is easy to get a good grade on and he has study guides and review sessions for each exam. CONS: sometimes he is very unclear when teaching and gets confused himself, its almost like he's talking to himself when teaching.
He's a great teacher. I suggest making sure you do your reading while going through his chapter outlines BEFORE he teaches it. Make sure you're prepared for class! He'll teach you well and the tests will be so much easier having it reinforced!
Read before class. Go to class. Take the notes on the PP slides and on the board. WRITE DOWN THE EXAMPLES and study those. I made lists of the concepts we needed to know, too. He gives you a chapter objective sheet, so make sure you understand the concepts listed on them. That helps. He's an incredible teacher!
Dr. Squattrito was one of the best professors I have ran into. Knows his stuff and does a great job presenting it. It is a hard class so be prepared to put in the time and effort, big shock... But definitely take if you can
Squattrito has honestly been one of the best professors, if not the best that I've had here at CMU. Although the course is challenging, he is very knowledgable and has plenty of office hours for help. The grade you receive in this class will most likely reflect the effort you put into it.
Love Chemistry that's for sure. Very monotone professor, but cracks some cheesy jokes. the material is pretty difficult to learn and the homework online is hard and long. He will help you by all means, but you need to ask for it. DON'T FALL ASLEEP IN THIS CLASS, or yo will not be successful.
Mr Squattrito is a great professor if you can get him for 132, I highly recommend it. He's a great person, who loves to help his students. He offers his own study sessions a day before exams, and always is available for office hours. Any additional help? just email him and he'll get back the same day (most of the time). LOVE HIM.
No easy way to prepare for the tests; you just have to.
Tough class in general, but he makes it as easy as he possibly can for students, readily available in office hours. Outlines what should be known for tests and holds a study session before each test.
This class is designed to be pretty tough, but P squatts does a pretty good job of making it as easy as possible. Tests are pretty tough and the final exam is pretty much impossible. He reminds me of Mr. Mackey off of South Park.
I had a really hard time with this class and had to drop. He speaks monotone, and basically talks to himself during lecture. He often assumes you'll catch on right away.. There wasn't a Mastering Chemistry assignment shorter than 70 questions. Go to SI, and read the book even though it isn't required.
I don't think that there's any way to make basic chemistry exciting to start with, but Squatt makes it understandable. You have a lot to cover in the 16 weeks, so he goes through a lot each class period. His sense of humor is super dry but I was laughing quite often. Tests aren't "hard" but they surely aren't easy. Study and do the mastering chem.
Extremely knowledgable, but can be intimidating. His lectures are straight forward, but if you don't understand something get help right away. I had him for lab as well and found myself hesitating to ask questions when I needed help because he acted like they were stupid.. Take with someone else if you're not an expert with chemistry!!!
P Squat is a good professor. Everything on the exam is in the notes and lecture. There is a lot to get through so if you fall behind get help!!! The course is fast paced, but that's not the professors fault. He wants to get through all of the information for students moving on to higher chem classes. The downside was the super long homework!
Squattrito definitely knows what he's talking about but can make you feel stupid. If you put the time and effort into the course you should get at least a B or maybe even an A. He's initimidatinf but he will help if you show you need it.
I only took Squattrito for 132 I wish I had taken him for 131. The class is hard and you have to put in a lot of work, but he tires his best to outline what you need to know from each chapter. He also goes over a lot of examples in class and is very organized. He doesn't curve many test, but he curves the overall grade.
He gives out four exams so it is nice to have a chance to boost up your grades. Do all the mastering homework to the best you can because he counts it as an exam grade and it also helps with understanding the concepts you are learning. He is an alright lab instructor. He doesn't help unless you ask for it & even then he doesn't really answer them.
Stay on top of Mastering Chemistry, only used the textbook for mc when he didnt go over things in class
It's a hard class to begin with but I had him for the lab section also and he is willing to help if you ask for it. The tests are on the harder side so be prepared to make flash cards. As long as you do the homework and come to class and study a little then you should pass just fine. And the class is a big lecture hall so making a friend is easy
CHM131 is a tough class, but P Squatts makes it bearable. I had him for the lab portion as well and he will help you if you ask for it. He has a lot of office hours and is available throughout the semester. His lectures are interesting and he cracks some funny jokes from time to time. Stay on top of the MasteringChemistry and you will do just fine.
Homework was online through MasteringChemistry and it was an easy A if you did it. Lectures had all of the information you needed. Didn't open the textbook once. For a hard class this is a great prof to have for it. Tests are very difficult but very doable, didn't study for them once and got an A in the class.
This was by far the hardest class I've ever taken, but I've always been awful at chemistry. That being said, Squat was VERY helpful throughout the semester; he offered countless office hours and was willing to go through every single question I had--even if it took an hour. Had for lab as well, helpful only if asked. Overall would recommend!!
Overall great professor to have for this class being so hard. He offers plenty of office hours to get extra help and always sends announcements to keep students updated. He's very helpful but if you don't go to class you won't pass.
Prof. Squattrito is the most influencing professor for me until now. He is always there for helping you. His office hours are almost 7 hours per day. What is more, he gives Q & A sessions before any exam. Moreover, the homework is online.. you can make 3 mistakes before dropping the score for each Q. He makes CHM lovelier. Gives neat Study Guides.
Squattrito is a good professor, not too difficult, lots of online homework. If you study you'll get an A
Squatty is a great teacher - he definitely moves faster than other chemistry teachers but is overall very fair. Whatever you do, do the mastering chemistry assignments. They are super time consuming but without them you more than likely won't pass due to lack of understanding and application of the information outside of the lectures.
Dr. Squattrito is an awesome professor for such a hard class. He really cares about his students and does a lot to make sure you have everything you need to succeed. Make sure to do the chapter reviews and attend the Q&A sessions before every test. Homework is online. Overall great professor and I would highly recommend him!
Squattrito is a great prof so far. He goes slow enough so you understand and has lots of office hours if you dont. Tests are all multiple choice with no surprise questions that you havent learned about in class. I would highly recommend taking him!
His exams are very difficult and his notes to help you understand the material you need to know for the class. You are only graded on the four exams and your homework, so the exams are a huge part of your grade Overall, from all of the professors I have had here at CMU he's below average. Also, enjoy using an online book to teach yourself chemistry
his lectures were confusing and when I went to study hours he wasn't helpful. Depending on what type of student you are, he might be perfect for you, but I ended up resorting to using the online text book to teach myself. also make sure you do the long, and very annoying homework problems.
Professor squatritto was very friendly and nice, but his teaching was not the best. He didn't do a good job explaining things and rushed through difficult topics.
In the beginning he did a very nice job explaining things; however, towards the end he flew through the chapters, which coincidentally were the most difficult ones. It was extremely hard because it was like he expected you to have prior knowledge. If you take him, go to the chemistry tutors for help because he cant explain things in simple terms.
Squattrito was great. His class was tough at times, but you could always ask questions or look at the textbook or online for help. I didn't do great on two of the tests, but I still finished with an A because of his grading curve, which was great. I also had him for lab, and it was a hoot. He's a great professor who clearly loves what he teaches.
Professor Squattrito was great. He always provided several examples of math problems and is also really friendly. Utilize his office hours, he's a harmless and happy to help! He definelty helped me a lot and is also more than willing to talk about future career prospects.
Easily the best chem professor here. Makes an awful subject at least a little entertaining. I struggled through 131 with a different professor but 132 has been making sense to me.
Phil was a great guy, and was always willing to help those were struggling. He knew when things were tough, and would make sure to go over those things thoroughly. Chemistry isn't my strong suit, but he made sure everyone was relatively on track. Overall, I would recommend Phil to any incoming chem students.
His lectures go really fast, and if you dont have any previous expierence with what hes teaching, then its really hard to grasp. Honestly would probably be better off not attending his lectures and just reading the book because he doesnt explain things and expects you have a good basis on everything he teaches immediatley. Exams are tedious.
His class and grading for a chemistry class is overall very fair. I've had him for both ChM 131 & 132 and he's definetly a good choice, especially compared to the other chem profs. I've been to his office hours quite a few times and he's been pretty helpful although sometimes he can be a little intimidating sometimes.
Super smart guy but to the point where he doesn't know how to explain things at an easier level. Good professor overall, lotsssss of homework though. get ready to work, the material is rough
Squattrito is a great teacher! He's passionate and hilarious and he explains concepts well. He's ALWAYS available after class and really works with you. He also takes the material much slower than the other profs, so if you struggle with chem, I definitely recommend him!In the Honors section, he'll take you ice skating and on field trips.
Easily the best gen chem professor at Central. There is a TON of homework but overall squattrito is a solid choice.
Solid choice for gen chem at CMU, his lectures are usually helpful but he does not have any type of attendance/participation points which is annoying. Homework load and difficulty is all similar to CHM 131. "Squattie" can be an odd duck sometimes but he likes athletes and is really into sports! Show up to a few office hours to get to know him.
Squattrito is a good instructor. He uses a powerpoint as well as the blackboards to write out what you should take note of. Be sure to do extra example problems on your own for each section, or go to the SI sessions. He will make sure you know what to study for each exam with learning targets, so study those. 2 weeks for homework, use it wisely.
Good at teaching and nice guy. Slideshow presentations are clear and concise, and he explains and works through problems on the board. Made gen chem as straightforward as I could've hoped.
Squattrito is an amazing professor, and I hope to take him again. His lectures are a little slow at times, but he really loves what he does, and hes very accessible outside class. Hes a great professor and a great person.
Squattrito is so nice and sweet and he really wants everyone to do well in his class. He has a heart of gold and he is really funny if you have a good sense of humor. He is clear with deadlines and has office hours all throughout the week, so if you aren't doing great there's a good chance it's on you and not him.
He had office hours almost every day, so any questions you have he will be ready to answer them. He is very helpful when needed and as long as you attend lecture and do the homework, the class isn't too hard. Attendance was not mandatory, although he covered most material needed in class, so skipping probably wouldn't do you too much good.
This class was so so hard for me. I think that might be partially because I was used to school coming easily and this was the first course I ever didn't understand right away. Squattrito is a good guy, tons of office hours and he'll always sit and help you during office hours. His office hours do tend to kind popular so try to make an appointment.
He is very interesting and his way of speaking is very inclusive.
Not a fan at all
Dr. Squattrito is my favorite professor at CMU. After having him for two semesters, he is the most accessible by far, and only wants his students to succeed. He gives many different study tools and offers his own personal help so that you can do well on exams. If you have to take 131 or 132, he is the way to go.
If you're someone who doesn't like chemistry but has to take it anyways, I would definitely recommend Dr. Squattrito. He's a funny, well-respected instructor and my favorite parts of lectures were when he would actually demonstrate the concepts being learned. Not an easy subject, for sure, but Dr. Squattrito made the pain more bearable for me.
I love Dr Squatt. I think hes the cutest old man and you can tell hes passionate about what he teaches. His office hours are always open and his lectures are so helpful. Standup guy with an awesome class.
Squattrito was an alright professor. He knows what he is talking about, but because of Covid-19, lecture was online and it was really hard to understand the material. We watched recorded lectures and the in-class lectures were practice problems. Tests were really hard, however, he allowed for us to use our notes.
This was the hardest class I have ever had. Squattrito is a nice person, but was not the right person for me to learn chemistry from. Homework took me 6 hours or more every week. Exams are extremely difficult and he wants you to really think about the problems. He is good at answering questions and checking his email. Offers plenty of office hours.
Dr Squattrito was a overall good professor. His lectures are a little dry but its chemistry so thats kinda what you get. My biggest recommendation is to write down the in class questions as well as your work. That will help so much on exams. If youre willing to put the work in, you can do well in this class. Go to class, dont skip it.
I really liked Dr. Squat. Of course, do well on the exams because they will hurt you easily, but make sure your lecture grade is what you want, not your lab. Lab is easy, try and get a TA because they will grade easily. I definitely took full use of the open exams that you could revisit. Please, use this if he offers it! Ask Questions during hours!
Dr. Squattrito is a good guy and knows what he is talking about. Make sure you study for his exams even though they are open book/open note. Your grade is mainly determined by the midterms and the final, so do well on those.
This class was a lot of work. There were homework assignments due almost every week and there were online lectures to watch along with the lectures to attend Monday-Thursday. Dr. Squattrito was a great professor, I just wish it were less work. If you take this class, be prepared to put in the effort if you want a good grade.
Loved, great professor overall
Great professor very kind and caring. The class is definitely primarily graded off tests so ensure to do HW and adequately study to get good grades.
I loved Dr.Squat! Very caring, accessible, and knows what he is doing. Lots of office hours. Go to SI sessions. WATCH THE VIDEOS. The class is all exams, the hw counts as an exam grade so do really well on that to boost your grade. Do practice problems out of the book. Study hard for the ACS because it will make or break your grade.
His lectures are boring and he does not teach the material, just does example problems. Most of the learning had to be done by watching pre-recorded lectures. When asked questions, he speaks in technical terms that go straight over your head. The class is EXTREMELY exam heavy. No quizzes, just homework, exams, and lab go into your final grade.
Overall pretty good, study for tests because those are a large portion of grade, watch videos and learn on your own not just in class.
CHM 131 is a hard class and the exams are worth a lot so STUDY. Theres a lot of hw but if you can't figure out some questions, you can go to him and he'll tell you the answers. He always has office hours and is so nice and willing to help. Lectures are a lot of practice problems and not much real teaching so WATCH THE RECORDED LECTURES!
Dr. Squattrito was very accessible and helpful. Wonderful professor, would take again.
Squattrito is such a nice professor and he knows chemistry really well. He often will pause and hope someone will chime in during lectures, and if you do it often he will remember you. He's easy to reach, his office is on the third floor and he always seems happy to have people stop in to talk. He's goofy, likes sports, and long walks on the beach.
Dr. Squattrito is a fantastic professor and I would recommend him to anyone needing to take CHM 131 and CHM 132. He is really caring and if you are struggling go to his office hours and he is happy to help. He also is really funny and enjoyable to talk to.
Does not actually teach any material, he only does example problems in lectures and you are expected to teach yourself where these problems come from (his jumbled PDF's). Lecture videos are extremely dry and hard to get through. Not helpful when you ask. Be prepared to teach yourself chemistry. Wrong person for me to learn from.
VERY MONOTONE i almost fall asleep lol but overall decent prof, very nice and helps when you ask!! lots of resources available but somewhat have to teach yourself the concepts (mostly does example problems in class)
Dr. Squattrito has been at Central forever, and that's not a good thing. He hardly explains concepts that are in exams, refuses to curve despite having exam scores in the 50s, and gives hours of homework every week. He's a nice enough guy, but not a good professor.
Squattrito is a nice professor, but the class is challenging. Lectures are dry, so watching recorded videos and doing practice problems is key. Use Unstuckstudy and study groups to prepare for the exams, which are a large part of the grade.
Not a bad professor, teaches at a slower pace which worked for me. Lectures were sometimes dry and some things had to be self-taught. Homework was unnecessarily long (50-90 questions) which took me forever to do.
Homework's are usually over 50 question with several parts to each question, he is 0 help when asked. I didn't do well on an exam and talked to him about it and after discussing everything I did to prepare, he told me to try harder. After every exam he said the scores were at least 10% lower than he wanted but did not help or curve anything.
Dr. Squattrito is really sweet and nice. Chemistry can be challenging but he made it easy! There were lots of HW assignments that were often lengthy and repetitive but overall good learning material. Exams were tricky but fair. If you have him as a TA for the lab portion, you likely will lose a few points every report. Overall, I recommend him.
