nice person, test are a little hard for a core class, 2 easy papers
No Comments
Oh my lord this woman is horrid! She is so mean, especially in a lab context!
made things much harder than they should be
sooo boring, very unclear, hard tests
She is an ok teacher...gives a lot of extra credit...tests are all memorization.
RUN!!!!!!!!!!
Rude, obnoxious, avg in regards to her teaching abilities but she always forgets she is teaching an into course. There are better more interesting classes you can take...I suggest chem w/ Petty.
helpful, available, knowledgable, clear and concise...a wonderful teacher by all accounts! What are the rest of you people on?
couldn't care less about her students
Excellent teacher
One of the best professors I've ever had. Skilled teacher. Cares about students. Makes learning fun and interesting and relevant.
this year she let us copy our notes into blue books to use on tests. the final is open book as well. she goes way too fast because she thinks you know all this stuff when you probably don't. if you take good notes, you're golden. if not, you'll struggle.
A lot of work, a ton of reading, frequent papers/tests...stress! It's one of the most arduous, and difficult courses I've taken...but you learn a hell of a lot. Just be prepared to be working your butt off every week. Seriously.
helpful
Very interesting class. Prof. Braun makes class very interesting and the experiments are fun. She gives lots of extra credit and lets you take notes with you to the tests. Open Book final!
This class is cake, and it is pretty interesting. Extra credit like its part of the curriculum, and an open book final. I learned a lot too. She's really nice too.
Excellent teacher, very helpful when asked. Too bad Dr Braun does not teach all the classes at Fairfield University as she is the best teacher I have seen - keep up the good work!
You will learn a lot of amazing things in this class. Probably the most I've ever learned in a year.
Good teacher. Has to teach very difficult material and succeeds.
very difficult material. got Cs on all her tests and i never get Cs. Shes really nice and funny but its not an easy class at all. She gives you opportunities for extra credit though
worst professor I ever had. She may be a very well-educated woman but she is the worst professor I have ever had my entire 4 yrs in college.
I like her, class is hard but only because of the material that's being covered. Really intersting stuff b/c you can relate it to your life.
She knows how to teach to the whole person and she makes the course interesting. She also happens to allow 2 pgs of notes per chapter and has extra credit assignments. It's a great class :)
she means well, nice lady but the material is tough to begin with so i can't blame her. Extra credit can help test grade but her test are very hard, everything that she says in class will be on the exams. 75 MC questions and an essay in an hour and 15 minutes can be hard.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER! Hard Grader and has favorites in everyclass.
this class is horrible, ton of work, does let u bring notes to the tests, not approachable and will make u not want to leave your house my roomate thouhgt he had cholera after one of her classes
great teacher.very fair.really wants to help her students. material is boring but she tries to make it more interesting. its a good class in general.
shut yo face **** shes my mom

Everyone in my class doesn't like her, but I do. Lots of material, but it's all very interesting and she teaches a lot of practical stuff too. Lets you bring in a page of notes (F&B) per chapter on tests, and the final is open book! Plus, 5 point extra credit papers for each test. Not very hard at all. Good professor, good class.
Not clear and grades tremendously hard...if you follow all the requirements and you write a good lab paper all she gives you is a C, hard teacher, stay away
I think she hates teaching the gen bio lab because she sees it as a waste of time. She takes her frustrations out on the students and grades incredibly hard. Avoid her at all costs, and if you're a frosh who was put into her class, try and switch profs ASAP.
excellent teacher. i dont know what any one else is talking about; she's great.
Panicked prior to taking this class for core, but actually isn't that bad...she's very clear, can bring cheat sheets for tests, and a fair grader
wow, i can't believe anybody has anything nice to say about this woman. Immunology is hard as it is, she makes it so much more unclear with her lisp while talking 100 mph. Not only are her tests IMPOOSIBLE, she is the most unpleasant, arrogant person i've ever met. I have studied so much for this class and am averaging a low C, if that. STAY AWAY!
I guess she must be different in her other classes, like her core classes, because her immunology class for majors has made me seriously contemplate finding another major as a junior. She makes you feel like you are not worthy to be in her presence, her tests are so hard, and she definitely doesn't care about her students. don't take her, ever.
Class is impossible. Will kill your GPA, even with an open book final.
Great class, learned a lot. Demanding but not impossible. Instructor very clear and organized. Not sure what the others had problems with..perhaps they were academically challenged !
Super hard, not compleatly impossible. Tests are way to hard, even with notes. Take only if you REALLY like bio
very challenging course but you learn alot. she really tries to drill the material into you, and even though the tests are very hard, she curves at the end. great prep for health prof. school
After taking 2 courses I can safely say that she is perhaps the most knowledgeable and effective teachers of any of the Fairfield Biology staff. Her courses are also the most difficult and academically demanding. If you are looking for an easy ride I suggest looking elsewhere but if you are interested in challenging yourself and learning something
Tests are extremely difficult, this class made organic chem look easy. However, you WILL learn if you put in the effort.. and it may be very useful for the MCAT, don't expect to get A's on the exam, or anytwhere close, but there is a small curve at the end... she's a good person, good teacher, but challenging beyond belief!
Very good class for any biology major. It was a large challenge with a lot of work but I learned more in this class than in any other. Dr. Braun did a great job covering so much material in such a short time. Negative comments about this class could only be due to lack of interest in biology or lack of studying.
Love her! She is such a nice lady & the best bio teacher out of the 5 that I've had at Fairfield. She is very straight forward, and she wants you to do well. Allows cheat sheets for all tests, and final is open book. The material can be challenging, but she makes it interesting. One of Biology's best!!!!!
Braun as a teacher could never be described as easy, but neither could the stuff she's teaching. Virology is difficult, and even if you enthrall yourself in it, you still may not end up with great grades, but you will learn an INCREDIBLE amount. If you're looking for a hard class and learning a lot, she's your professor.
Had her for Lab. Very obnoxious woman. Never explained anything. I was new to the subject and didn't know much..she was no help whatsoever. Hard grader for no reason. Never answered questions. Would literally laugh when you said you didn't understand something. All she talked about was how she is published on google...ridiculous.
I took this to fulfill the science core. Biggest mistake of my life. Absolutely ridiculous in terms of the amount of obscure information that is covered. Woman is a complete blowhard too. I made one mistake on an assignment, and she takes 6 points off my final average. So if you want to deal with that be my guest.
I am a business major & took this class for core & it was an interesting class. I actually learned alot, one of the few classes that I reference things I learned.. in everyday life. I's not an easy subject, so thats why alot of people say shes hard. As long as you show effort, you're ok. Go to her office, ask some BS questions. Offers extra credit.
When I got her for lab, after hearing how terrible she was, I thought I could just suck it up for a semester. Nope. She is absurdly difficult, but not in a way that could help you improve. She just wants you to fail. If you get her and can't switch out, remember that you have to work three times as hard in her lab than people in other labs have to.
Had her for bio lab. DO NOT TAKE HER! the highest grade in my class was an 84. she is ridiculously hard and never answers questions and when she does she is pissed you don't already know it. She knows a lot of information but as a teacher she is AWFUL!
Being a bio major I had to take Bio 170 and I had Braun for lab. She's the most disrespectful woman ever. I only did well in the class because I listened carefully to what she explained and took down a lot of notes, but she is just completely rude. If you ask her a question, she will laugh at you and not answer it she's completely useless.
Excellent teacher, very helpful when asked. Dr Braun should teach all the classes at Fairfield University as she is the best teacher I have seen -
I absolutely love this woman... i am going to take every class that she teaches
Professor Braun is not the best lab professor to have during your freshman year. She has shown many times that she does not like freshman biology majors. She likes to do everything different from all the other lab professors, her lab practical is awful, and she is extremely picky on the lab report. Avoid her if you can.
Does not like freshman. It's her way or the highway. She knows her stuff but she's not helpful at all, not even while preforming the labs. Gives no direction just says follow the manual. Grades ridiculously hard and makes students feel stupid. Don't take her for Gen Bio Lab!
Super smart lady but rude and not helpful. Makes you an independent learner right as you enter freshman year, which is tough. Lab reports are graded harshly. You will warm up to her but she's NOT made to teach. I would stay away.
One of the most intelligent and enthusiastic professors I have had. Covers a lot of information and really wants the students to fully understand the concepts and be able to apply them. She is challenging and has definitely made me a better student and more knowledgable. Would take every one of her classes.
Braun is awful. She says "feel free to ask questions" but when you do she rolls her eyes and gives you an attitude and makes you feel stupid. She doesn't use powerpoints or any other form of online learning. Also she uses transparencies- from other books! So its impossible to study because you don't have the information. Do not take her class!
she grows on you. I had her for both semesters of gen bio lab, 170 and 171. knows her stuff. smile in class and don't be lazy. she knows who puts in effort and who doesn't.
For any upper level bio classes, she's very difficult. She is very knowledgeable of the material but seems to struggle teaching it in a way that is easy to understand. She goes on tangents that are hard to follow and don't always relate to material. She expects much more than just general understanding of material and the book is useless
AVOID at all costs! I had her for lab which was terrible. She was extremely condescending and rude to your face. If you asked questions or looked confused she would rip you to pieces and make you feel dumb. She made me rethink my major. She is an extremely tough grader and doesn't give helpful feedback. Also, she does not teach so GOOD LUCK!
An excellent instructor. Clearly presents the material but you must have a general understanding of the lab exercise. Does not tolerate slackers
Best Bio teacher Ive had at Fairfield. We covered a lot of material and I worked really hard but it paid off. Very fair grader.
I took Virology and Molecular and learned so much. The material is always on exams like MCAT and come up again professional programs (PA, MD, DO, etc) so theyre a must if you want to feel well prepared. Weekly summaries of your notes are optional but you get extra points if you do them AND she corrects them! Its a no brainer. Take these classes.
Lab was awesome. Dr. Braun really teaches you how to learn and how to be a better student in the lab and the classroom. Helped me excel in all of my other bio classes and labs.
I loved this class! it. It isn't easy, but if you read and take notes then it's hard to fail. Dr. Braun is a great teacher, she is really passionate about her subject and she knows her stuff! She's very clear, but don't be afraid to ask questions if you're lost.
Dr Braun is one of the best professors in my opinion. She is always ready to help if you need it. She explains very well if you have a hard time will spend time going over it. I definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a great professor she is the one.
Dr. Braun often gets a bad rap since she teaches Virology, one of the hardest Biology classes at Fairfield. I will be starting professional school this year and I really feel that the rigor of her class prepared me for the challenges ahead. She is absolutely one of the nicest and smartest professors in the Biology department if you put in the work.
Fantastic class Never learned so much. I feel ready for my graduate program.
Very rude during lab. Rips you to pieces and makes you feel dumb if you do not understand the content. Don't even bother going to her office hours because she never answers your questions.
Literally the worst professor on Earth. She's mean and condescending towards her students. I'm taking her for Gen Bio I Lab, which is required to pass Gen Bio I, and she's probably the worst Bio lab instructor at Fairfield. She goes over the lab and expects you to know everything. Don't ask questions or you'll be talked down to like you're stupid.
Such a rude lab professor. Can't even get proper help outside of class. She simply refuses to answer questions and actually help her students.
Excellent teacher. Really knows her stuff, however she knows when you arent prepared. She tries to get you ready for upper division classes
Dr. Braun is the best professor at Fairfield University. She loves what she teaches, she is always accessible outside of class, and she is always there for her students. Her molecular class has changed me as a student - I now know the value of hard work and how to study properly so that the material is retained for a long time.
Was a very rude Gen Bio 1 Lab Professor. Always rude and condescending. Also a terrible advisor.
There is nothing good to say about Dr Braun. She is a horrible advisor. Likes to mock you when you fail, gives so much attitude when you want to switch your major. I would give a zero if I could.
Braun is just HORRIBLE, called me failure because I withdrew Gen Chem as a freshman, made me take 3 sciences with lab the following year, and when gave me so much attitude when I wanted to withdraw from Gen Bio 3. She wouldnt let me withdraw so I had to go through a different process to get myself withdrawn from Gen Bio 3.
The most horrible Gen Bio Lab Professor ever and the worst advisor at this University EVER!!!!! If you get her as your advisor as an incoming freshman bio major, switch your advisor right away!!!!! I am so glad I switched my major.
Thanks to Dr Braun, I am no longer a bio major. She doesnt have any power to advise me any more.
The previous evaluations regarding this lab was all written by the same person which had no basis in reality. Labs were organized, grades were fair. She always was accessible for questions both in lab and during office hours
Dr. Braun is passionate about the material she teaches and challenges students to push themselves. Her courses teach you how to think critically about the material. Her courses are challenging, but doable. I recommend that anyone who plans on going to medical school take one of her courses. Her goal is to prepare students for grad school and beyond
Dr. Braun is a wonderful professor and person! I have so enjoyed le
Very smart and interesting professor. Teaches you to learn how to study to actually retain information and apply it. Accessible outside of class and will help you understand any material you didn't get. Really interesting class and a great professor.
Excellent instructor, interesting lecture material and assignments!
This core course was amazing. Lectures super interesting and relevant. Provided the textbook we used.
Excellent instructor . Never learned so much in a course. Feel really prepared for grad school.
Very interesting core science course-Gave a project to teach the differences between science and pseudoscience/ opinion in social media. Tests were fair, one was a take- home and could use book/ and her PowerPoints. No final just a small research project that she guided you through. Always available for questions and very responsive to emails
I had Dr Braun as a freshman and was looking forward to taking one of her upper divisIon course. I am so sorry to hear she retired. She was an incredible teacher.
