......worst :(
Step by step textbook created by the teachers. Pick your grade depending on # of assignments completed. Easy "A." Impatient with the lazy.
Pick your grade and do those assignments. She will go out of her way to help you out. Really nice and friendly. It wasn't the most fun class ever, but she does what she can with a boring topic.

A real stickler with lates, even if it's 30 seconds. Talked about herself and her family constantly. Only teacher for this class, and she isn't too good to have for it. Wasn't flexible and demanded that things went only her way. Stay away if you can.
SO boring.. Easy A but def boring
Awsome teacher!!! Will explain any of your questions until you absolutaly get it, very very clear. As long as you do the assigned work and read the chapters, you WILL get an A. Take her if you can.
first off who still wears dreadlocks? whenever she hands back homework there is hair oin my paper...also she is agitated easily and will not help ANYONE SO DONT LET ANYONE FOOL YOU!!!!
This teacher should be fired! She does not know how to use all of the software that she teaches, she doesn't know how to spell!! (Just read the book required for the class) and she is not helpful with answering questions. She repeats herself a lot, but with information that does not help! DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS!!!!!

Some of this information is false. She didn't a class listed here. She is a good professor.
she is very rude and tries to make you feel like you are beneath her when you ask a question. She thinks she is better than you but when really she is just rude........................................
SUCKS DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO HELP

What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!

should be fired, disgrace to Brookdale, tries to put on an act of 'toughness' whereas, in reality, she doesn't know what she doing, doesn't even know the material herself, very very unhelpful...although she CAN entertain with her little stories of her daily "10 mile morning jogs."
I took her online course. I had to take it 2 times in order to pass it. Needless to say that the first time she put me an F, second time I study very hard got B. She is a very rude teacher. She should start respecting her students.
What a ****. Horrible teacher. She writes her own books for the class and it is horrible. WARNING : DONT TAKE HER!!
A lot of work, but a great teacher.
She is very condescending. In reality she is a moron. Don't take this class! If you do, don't expect any help. She will ridicule you for not understanding something.
I don't know what everyone on here is talking about. If your the typical brookdale slacker you will not like shafer. But if you are actually a good student and do all of the assigned homework you will get the grade you deserve. She goes to work and teaches the material well. What more could you ask from her. And busi 165 is the easiest class ever
Hard class but prof made it easy to understand. Will explain again and again. Doesn't care for laziness and excuses. Do the work and you will do ok.
Royal PAIN IN THE A**!! If she doesnt like you, she lets you know!! And dont ask any questions because she look down on you and make you feel like crap infront of everyone, where infact she doesnt know everything herself.. if you have the horrible experience of being STUCK with her.. you'll see what i mean. B****
Had some real problems with her for one class but none for the other. I think she is misunderstood, but she doesn't help the situation with her stubbornness. Overall I wouldn't say to avoid her, just be careful with everything you do and say...take everything as a grain of salt.
i don't know what you guys are talking about but i thought she was a great teacher. She goes over everything clearly and is helpful when you ask questions. If you are willing to do the work that she gives you and hand in your projects you will do just fine in her class. I loved her and i am taking her again over the summer.
Do not take this teacher! I worked very hard in this class and still had to deal with her BS. She doesnt know what she is doing and she talks down to her students. The class is boring already but she makes it even worse. I still got an A in the class though, its easy if you have some previous knowledge of computers.
This IS a good professor. She will help you as long as you help yourself. She can even deal with the rude students. Take her only if you want to learn.
She is not a good teacher. She is so disorganized and always late grading. Its a good thing this class was so easy. You're better of taking it online to minimize how much you have to deal with her. She will make you feel like you are stupid for asking her to clarify things she screws up in her directions. Avoid her when possible.
She is totally unclear with what she wants and tried to make you feel stupid for asking. I have no idea how she runs the department but would be willing to bet it is a mess. I will stay miles away. If she reads this maybe she will go read a real syllabus because her's sucks. It's like half a page long... good class but stay away from her.
I think she is pretty crazy - she goes on rants and trys to talk down to some of the students who aren't her favorite. I love Brookdale, but I must say, she has been one of the worst teachers I have ever had here (and unfortunately I had her for more than 1 class).
i wish i listened to these bad ratings and didnt move forward with taking her...she is horrible! she is unclear, standoffish, and she mumbles...she should be fired
i liked her. she was fair. the class was easy. as long as you did the work you get a good grade. she even lets you hand in a few things late.
Explains pretty much in detail. Topics covered by the syllabus were very simple, however, the exams given were rather difficult.
Tread Lightly, VERY LIGHTLY!!!!
such a boring woman. class was dreadful. whole class is one big excrusiating lecture. ALOT of information to memorize
shes a great teacher so dont listen to what everyone says.. she is there to help you! she is clear with her explanations and relates everything we learn to today's economy. If your read the sections before class, take notes, and study you will get an easy A. She even tells you what the essay questions are before the day of the test! BEST TEACHER!!!
one of the worst teachers i ever had! shes always late. dont even think about asking her a question. And if your wrong she will definitely let you and the class know. personally i think she is very disrespectful
She is the one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She does not teach anything that applies to the course. She never uses the board. She rambles on about nothing. There are no notes to refer back to. If you are wrong she lets you know you are wrong. She barely answers your questions. I would never recommend her to anyone.
She has a nice personality; but, her teaching is horrible. There are no notes. Hardly never uses the book. She is a horrible instructor. She should not teach. She does put up nicely with rude students. Do NOT TAKE HER if you don't have to.
Honestly, her online class was a mess. She was very late in grading work, rarely answered questions promptly, and was not very well versed using the ANGEL online system. I'd advise you to choose another professor for this class when available.
atrocious. every single class she is late, gives out the hardest tests and does not explain what is on the test, and lastly, very selfish. if you ask her for she would say no and makes up excuses to why she should never help anyone like its third grade math or i have no time. avoid at all costs
Shafer is a horrible teacher. She is very rude to her students. Very immature and has a bad attitude. She never explained any of the material to me or any of the other students. The book is neccessary but not to the extent she wanted. I basically taught myself, and the tests were nothing like she said. Don't take her unless you want the aggravation
Taking her online course now. The syllabus is easy to follow and tests are fairly easy as long as you take notes. As long as you complete the assignments and show effort, usually good grades
I have never in my life had such a terrible teacher. I am taking her online class now. sadly I had a family death and missed an assignment. after explaining my situation, she refused to help me in anyway - giving me a 0. she is unhelpful, rude and inconsiderate to her students as well as a UNFAIR GRADER, and thats an understatement.
she is not very nice. took her online class and was not helpful at all. she wrote very rude emails when asked for help and then would post them on a message board and would make even ruder remarks. she was not helpful like a teacher should be
She's kind of a hit and miss. One minute she's great and helpful, the next not so much. Don't ever leave the classroom unless its an emergency because she will stop talking and stare at you until you leave the room and again when you come back in.
She is a very great teacher. She comes off being mean, but she isn't. She is very strict. She knows her material, and knows what she is doing. She was very helpful, but she isn't going to hand deliver the material to you. Its college you need to do the work yourself, not expect her to do it for you. All in all great teacher, great class.
Ms. Shafer's online financial literacy class is poorly designed, implemented, and run. Her bristling incompetence with the system was obvious from first test, in which many of the questions were incorrectly entered in the computer and had no appropriate answer. She is unhelpful and unwilling to work with students, and always combative.
She's a great teacher . Like any other college course where the professor follows all rules & regulations , it was pretty challenging . Yes it was a hard class . But she was good & funny . Our class was very engaged & cracked jokes all the time . She's very strict with her policies & the schools policies but that's the right thing to do .
I feel that Professor Shafer is a great teacher, despite how others feel. It is not very often that teachers make you think and put some effort into your studies. She forces you to read on your own and interpret the information. I would take any of her classes again because that is called learning.
She's tough. If you take anything from my post please let it be this- follow her rules exactly as she wants you to follow them. Nice woman, just strict and there is no reasoning with her. Just be prepared. If you do your work and come to class & participate you should do well.
I warn u, she is strict. i went away on vacation, and would have very limited internet connection i asked if she could help me. she refused and just said look at department rules. also with one of the exams she said if i submitted the full forms, she would give me partial credit. i later did, then she said her statement read... never did via e-mail
She is strict, but nice if you are respectful. She LOVES when people ask questions&start conversations. Come late to class & be prepared to have her stare at you from the second you walk through the door to the second you sit down. If you get up to go to the bathroom, she will stare at you again. She definitely likes people to abide by the rules.
unclear with explanations
Do not ever take this class. Phyllis Shafer is one of the worst professors I ever had. Terrible attitude. She should resign and pick a new career. If you took a tally of how many times she said "ya know" you'd fill a whole notebook. Shafer go powertrip on your kids not us.
Awesome teacher, reasonable and knowledgeable. Show interest and don't be just another student. Participate and take EFFECTIVE notes. Gives you essay questions beforehand. If you buy a new book, use mindlinks to study. TRUST ME. Your welcome. Almost all of the pretest consist of just vocab words. Loved her, learned alot
This "professor" was the worst professor I have ever had. She is unclear, unhelpful and just a horrible miserable person. I took her online class and she failed me. She didn't post my grade at the end and I lost my financial aid for the semester. DO NOT TAKE!! When asked about it she was completely rude and unprofessional. Run while you can.
When yoou ask a question and the response is if you had read the syllabus you would know the answer there is a problem. When there is a snowstorm shutting off power and closing school and he will NOT allow you to submit a assignment one day late saying the power was not out the whole time you could have submitted this professor has problems,
i can't believe the reviews Shafer gets. She was honestly an amazing teacher. she had me so interested i took her class in a two week intersession and got an A like it was a breeze and learned a ton of interesting things about the American economy. If she taught anymore classes i need i would take her no brainer. you should too!!!
Really have never dealt with such a rude teacher! One would think, since she doesn't have to come to class, she would be more willing to help, but NO! "Refer to syllabus/instructions!" When I ask why I got certain points taken off, she never explains her reasoning. Each assignment is related to future ones, so knowing what I did wrong is important!
Just when you think you've studied enough for her tests she throws you a curve-ball, she intentionally deviates from what she teaches to whats on the test. It is modern day torture people.
I have no clue what the others are complaining about. She is great. She is extremely fair. The work is clearly laid out, just do it. She tells you what is going to be on the test. She gives extra credit opportunities on each test as well. The secret for doing well in this class is actually caring about it.
Best teacher i've ever had. Very smart and loves teaching and loves the subject she teaches. This was my first business class ever and it left a positive impression.Interesting concepts & theories. All you need to do to get an A is TRY. take detailed notes during the lesson.STUDY your notes. Respect your peers, respect the teacher & respect yourself
My least favorite of all teachers since returning to school. Not only unhelpful, but often argumentative. Has dismissed us early TWICE so she could have more time grading papers (she was behind after taking a week vacation). Had very little personal insight into the studies. We studied for the tests rather than learning the topic. Avoid her!!!
Horrible teacher, unwilling to help or offer extra credit, expects assignments in on time but takes forever to grade them.
If you want to take a class where you learn something and are encouraged to discuss and question the subject, don't take this one. You won't be treated like an adult. She has her favorites and if she doesn't like you, she lets you know. Ask a question, and the general response is 'if you read the book you'd know.' with no actual answer given.
I don't know what the other reviews are talking about. Professor Shafer is very helpful. She doesn't like when people interrupt, but she always allows for questions when she's done. I don't see anything wrong with this. She makes the class interesting with personal stories, and she gives plenty of preparation for the test. I'm very fond of her.
Phyllis is one of thos people who didnt have teaching as their first career. It shows. She is unwilling to help, expects homework on a very flexible subject to be EXACTLY on point and is EXTREMELY unforgiving in her grading. Her lectures are a snorefest and in class excersises has every student in a confused glare. Worst Teacher i ever had. AVOID!!
I learned a lot in this class. Teacher was very clear what she wants from us, never rude but don't think it's an easy A. You need to work for the grade.
Took this class online, by far my favorite online class I have ever taken! Weekly discussions that are easy to get a 100 on, only 3 tests total during the semester which you can take more than once and have an hour to take as well! Seriously the best online class, totally recommend it!
Very good class and good teacher. She will help you if you ask for help. She loves when you get involved. Doesn't like when people talk to each other during class. Loves Coca Cola.
Good teacher. Takes kinda long to grade tests. Encourages questions during the lecture.
Makes you work for an A but it you participate ask questions study for her tests you'll get the A
Extremely rude. Not helpful at all. Marks you off for the littlest of things.
Horrible teacher, took an online class where the school knowingly sold me the wrong textbook with a already used online code. Not only could Phyllis not even tell me the right book I needed but after I had resolved the problem with the school I received a lovely hate letter from her yelling at me for going to the school for help. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
had her for 105 and macro. Good teacher but tends to get off track once in a while. May seem scary on the first day of class but a good teacher. She teaches backwards so read the chapter before she teaches it. Overall, easy class. Don't take Econ with her though. Moves too quick.
Took her class last semester and figured I'd see what people had to say about her after finishing her course. I was shocked to see some of the negative reviews for her. Her teaching is very clear, gives many real world examples, and goes over information thoroughly. It's not a "easy A" but if you're willing to study you'll receive an A.
My last semester at Brookdale I decided to register for this class as an elective thinking it would be easy and enjoyable. I now regret that decision as I find myself not passing because of how tough of a grader she is. It was an online class but I went for extra help during her office hours. She helped me for about 30 seconds and left. DON'T TAKE!
Professor Shafer is a great professor. Read the chapter before she teaches it. Her exams are a bit hard but very fair. She thoroughly teaches and explains all topics. She's very understanding, but also likes when students take the time to figure things out on their own
AVOID AVOID AVOID! This professor teaches backwards, sideways, and misdirects every good thing about the learning process. Rude beyond the need, short curt statements and forget asking questions in her own words "Not your babysitter". Changes directions constantly and tests are confusing. Projects no review and then after you submit teaches it.
Horrible professor. I would never take this professor again. She never gave help and ignored emails asking for extra help. The tests never followed what was taught, and always had random questions on it that had nothing to do with what was being taught in class. It would have been an easy class if there was a better teacher. Never take this class.
This teacher will NOT put in even a second of extra time for you as a student. Does not even answer one on one questions, and won't go out of her way in the slightest for any of her students. Mediocre lectures as well, but the main thing is, she has no genuine interest in helping her students.
Terrible experience. Do not take her online course. She won't teach you anything, but will ask a lot. If you have a chance go to face-to-face class.
I would absolutely one thousand percent never recommend this lady who claims she's a "Professor" but really teaches nothing. Is extremely rude, thinks she's better than everyone else. Asked for extra help, got nothing. Dislike her teaching style, won't give her the time of day. Extremely disappointed as a student who spent their own $$ to be here.
She made a easy subject very difficult. Very boring.
Professor Shafer's online class was a handful but she was very helpful. She was very friendly to me. If you show that you're doing your work and you're having difficulties she will help you. I look forward to taking another Bus class with her.
I'm kind of surprised to see all the negative reviews about Professor Shafer. The class really isn't that bad, and she offers extra credit if you do them within the time given. You're going to have to study, but as long as you put the effort in you will do fine. Buying the textbook is a must though because the assignments are online.
All of these bad reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. She is a very helpful professor(helpful, she wont hold your hand though as she said in class). If you put the work into this class and study for each test and do the one project you will have zero issues passing this class. It is a very clear cut college course.
If you can take someone else, do it. She is not terrible, and I really don't hate her, but she is not helpful and does the bare minimum to help. She has her own construct that if you don't abide by, she won't help you. It's truly her way or the highway, and she is genuinely rude and inconsiderate.
Rude! Rude! Rude! Very self - important. Thinks her time is more important than anyone elses. Dropped the class quickly because I was unwilling to be treated so disrespectfully. Oh yes, did I mention she was rude? There are many other professors who are not RUDE. Do not know what her problem is but did not want her to be one of mine.
She is very rude don't even try to put your head down or glance at your phone for even a second she will confront you in front of the whole class Although the class wasn't terrible I did enjoy her lectures they were interesting and she tells you what open ended will be on the test & makes good notes Participate or she will go crazy mad on everyone
She's not very interesting - she has very clear standards for her class but if you miss anything she will not give you ANY help. Anything/classes you miss will affect your grade. He lectures are okay... she's pretty rude. Don't ask questions or else she'll make you feel stupid.
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU CARE ABOUT GPA. Not taught things on project. Teamed up with another student for help and still got a 70-80 on it. No test study guides. My first B grade. I have had strait A's for last few semesters.I reread chapters 2+ times before the tests. Numbers don't lie. Not allowed to turn in anything late (not a prob for me) sad..
Worst professor Ive ever had. She does not care about her students at all and is very rude. I asked for help for her, got absolutely nothing. She told me I have to grade myself because canvas isnt accurate at times so I walked down to the tutoring lab and sat down with the business 105 tutor to get find out what my grade is. Avoid at all costs.
Ive never written a review on any professor I've had throughout the years but I can say I truly don't know why a lot of people don't like her. Shes a very approachable person and everything she teaches is on the test and if she didn't teach it, shell mark it correct on the exam for you. Im taking her again in the fall because I love her . Easy A!
Some teachers make/break a class. While the subject matter of Professor Shafers online BUSI-105 class was rather easy for me, the professors LACK of empathy and accessibility (does not respond to her e-mails regularly and is clear up front about this) is what led to me given this negative review. Take this class if you need it....
Tests are impossible. I would do every single study guide provided and not one thing would be on the exam. Exams have essays in them and fill in the blanks which are next to impossible. You must know all material inside and out , its a headache. My grade was saved by my papers.
Good professor. Not too difficult. Just participate and you'll do fine. Missed assignments lowered my grade :(
She was very nasty to her students. I would contact her and she would rarely answer her emails. When she would answer them, she would be short and nasty in them. During class she would not always teach about the chapter she would get side tracked, or she would talk really fast and rush the chapter. Would not recommend.
Professor Shafer was extremely rude. Whenever I would email her with a question or concern she would either never respond or respond with one word. I messaged her with issues I was having outside of class and asked for an extra day on a project and her only response was "Ok?" You have to read a lot and the questions on the exam are very tricky
Experience in this class was awful. Very nasty to students and not helpful at all. Never answers emails and if she does its rude. Makes you feel like you cant come to her with anything. A lot of homework also. You also dont know what grade you have in the class. she makes you figure out your grade yourself. I wish I never took her class.
This class has made my depression horrible. I study and try and try and nothing. After my last exam I cried and kept thinking to myself I cant do this. The worst part is I try to seek help and she doesnt answer AT ALL.
Worst class Ive ever taken. No help at all, and makes an easy subject hard.
She is my only professor that makes us figure out our grade on our own cuz "we're in college." I emailed her a question over break about a project no response as expected her reason was "it was my break too."
Professor Shafer's course material was manageable, but she was very condescending and hard to talk to. Throughout the semester there was SEVERAL errors and discrepancies in the syllabus, and she would respond were rude if it was brought to her attention. Her emails to the class were also very passive aggressive and unwelcoming.
Worst teacher I ever had. So nasty to all of her students for no reason. If you're taking this class be prepared for a nothing taught in class exam 3 with linear formatting. I asked one day "for clarification is the exam April 6th" she's like "are you in 2nd grade can you not read numbers is my 6 too small?" Made a not hard class just painful.
This class was one of the easiest I took. Professor Shafer can be tough, but she makes it pretty easy to get a good grade. Absorbing the lectures and taking good notes is most important. Homework is also very critical, but very helpful towards your grade.
I wouldn’t recommend Professor Shafer at all! First off she doesn’t even help her students. I would email her for help and she wouldn’t even bother to respond. Then I go to ask her in class and she says “check the addendum”. Also her exams are really hard and she barely covers any important information.
The professor has unclear assignments and generally chooses not to answer any questions regarding assignments. The professor also name calls at students
Consider yourself a lucky soab if 2 of the topics she teaches actually ends up on the exams. She loves to say "Im not gonna baby you" when in reality she prioritizes babying and bullying her students rather than teacher. She'll make you look like a moron for asking questions. I emailed her that an assignment wasn't working all she said was "OK"
Professor Shafer is great! She care about her students and explains everything in the lecture. The homework and tests are not bad at all either. Would 100% reccommend!
I'd rather work at McDonalds the rest of my life than take this nasty insufferably awful "professor" ever again. Everyone in my class hated her for very good reason, you can't encourage students to ask questions then bully them when they do so. Her email responses were always unwelcoming and rude. Exams are impossible, doesn't take any excuses.
I have never met anyone so rude in my life. She scolded at me during a zoom meeting claiming having my camera off WHILE I WAS IN THE BATHROOM was distracting! She should be a DMV lady, exams were absolute brutality. Do yourself a favor and don't endure her painfully long and boring lectures as NOTHING will end up on the exam anyway. Never again
Professor Shafer is very fair and gives many oppunrites to better your grade and pass your class. You have to earn your grade by doing your work and showing up everyday, which is how it should be.
Worst teacher i've ever had in my entire life, would rather cut my ears off than listen to her blabber. Would never recommend this teacher for anyone. she is a cold hearted, unfair, lazy, "teacher" she only puts her students down. did not try and help me with one issue I had the entire year. I hope she goes broke, I hated her.
What she lectures about and what's in the study guide is maybe 35% of the exam. Make sure you read the entire chapter on your own time because she will lecture the whole class. Sadly attendance is mandatory because reading the textbook instead of attending would have been much more efficient. Class exam averages were barely passing.
No doubt the worst professor. Don't help and doubt you for every single thing. Put students down and will not help even if you have a valid reason. Her job is to make the easiest course the hardest class.
Terrible and rude professor. She gets annoyed easily and does not seem to like her job teaching students. Expects you to know everything she does and gets mad when no one knows a question. Avoid her at all cost.
Hard grader on homework and did not enjoy the boring lectures do not take, rude!!!
Profesor Shafer is most definitely tough, but she is very fair. She takes an Introductory class and takes it to the next level. She provides us with many resources to do well, gives multiple attempts for the quizzes, and assigns a project that really helps us gain an understanding on our desired career choice. She is always has office hours.
Prof Shafer was ON TOP of my work yet it being online. I was always communicative as were they giving feed back on major projects. Shafers assignments were lots and lots of reading. Being it was fully online you have to put in all that work yourself. I used a Txt-Spch for each page and it moved along smoothly.
I low key have ptsd still from taking her almost 4 semesters ago lol . Very rude and gets annoyed easily . I would describe her as a bully with power . She seems to be very high up in the business department so any business majors try to avoid her . Makes class awkward with group work . She was my first ever college class too so not a good start.
Take her online class if you can as it is easier. Make sure not to miss any deadlines because no matter what you are going through she won't help at all with missing work. I had to repeat the class becasue I missed 1 project and exam due to technical issue and she would not open it no matte ryou are failing. She is rude and don't trust anyone.
Phyllis Shafer's BUS105 class can be a mixed bag. While the material is manageable, her teaching style can be quite condescending. Using Unstuckstudy and staying on top of assignments is key, as she doesn't take kindly to excuses. Overall, a challenging but fair class.
Online. No HW. Just 3 chapters to read in month time period. Easy and lots of free time. Project was enjoyable. part of project she did not give clear instructions & I did it wrong, and she would not let me resubmit. This greatly impacted my grade and she didnt care. She has no sympathy at all. So make no mistakes in her class or you're beat
If taken the class she is gives long lectures but she is not loud. So Sit in the front. She is a trough grader and doesn't give people a change to resubmit. Her directions on assignments are not clear.
