She is one of the best professors I have ever had, she requires you to do homewrok but it is fair amount. She explains everything well and shes there for you to learn. I love her and even if you don't like math you can learn a lot from Proff. Shapiro.
I love Prof. Shapiro! I learned so much from her and I'm not even a FMM major! She makes me want to switch over though. Def get her if you can. BUT... she's a little tough and sometimes a little harsh but she gets things in your head.
shes just rude and her first 2 tests are hard...the class is the same thing evvvvery time and its painfullllyyyy boring.
She is a bit on the crazy side , keeps you till exactly 9:20 on the dot. She likes the sound of her own voice and goes nuts on students on a constant basis. RUN!!
she is NOT RUDE@all, she's always smiling&nice just the students are being high school kids & always need her to explain ez instructions they could've look/think over again. everything is straightforward, class is a lil boring cus she's just going over the slides of the chapters we read. projects & tests arent hard, u just need to study & TRY
Prof Shapiro is a no nonsense professor, but I appreciate that about her. The only thing I don't like is that you are not able to eat in class. You can drink, but only water. Other than that, I like her teaching method/style. Would definitely take another class taught by her.
shes great! i would def take her again for retail math. its not a hard subject, but u will be lost without a teacher like her. not a demanding class at all, easy hw problems every week, 3 non-cummulative tests (thank god), and try to show up for EVERY class or else you'll miss a lot of info from the lectures that u need to understand the material
Great math teacher! Make sure you study hard for her tests but she is always willing to help students who are confused or struggling, even during the tests!
I've had Prof. Shapiro for both FM224 and FM116. She gets a bad rep for being a hardass because of her no nonsense attitude but she's a really great professor. Do the work and study and you'll be fine. Her funny yet clearly concise lectures really drill the material in your head and get you ready for her exams. Participation is very important too.
Professor Shapiro is amazing! She is the best math teacher I've ever had. She's really sweet & helpful, but she doesn't take any nonsense. Go to class every week and study for tests and you will do fine. I'm terrible at math and I got 100% on all of my tests because of her. TAKE HER! :)
This class was a lot of work. The projects are very time consuming and A LOT of work, again. She is a fair teacher and is understanding and can be helpful at times. She's fun and interactive and engaging. She grades hard sometimes. I think she's a fair professor, overall. She mixes up what she says a lot though which is confusing.
A true no-nonsense teacher. It is kind of funny to see ho frustrated she gets with some of the low performance of some students. but rightfully so. i think she is helpful, but definitely challenging.
She truly cares about her students. She's so familiar with the content that the way she teaches makes the material extremely easy to understand. She cares about making sure everyone understands and really interacts with the class. I definitely enjoyed taking her class.

Honestly the best professor I've ever had! She is hilarious, so down to earth and actually knows so much about the industry. The ways she teaches makes the material extremely understandable. Go to every class and do the work!

I loved attending Prof. Shapiro's class. Shes not one to necessarily be sympathetic if you're late or forget your homework but she's a great teacher and shes very fun. Definitely participate in her class, she appreciates it. Also DO YOUR HOMEWORK! it helps!
She is tough, but just wants her students to do their best. Do your homework it helps! She cares about how her students do in her class. She knows what she is teaching and makes the class fun. She turned out to be one of my favorite professors!
She is a great Professor. Extremely clear with what she wants done and is very helpful. Her notes follow along with the textbook very well. If you study her notes the test are easy.
She is probably one of my favorite professors at FIT. She is so helpful and honestly makes math fun and easy. The tests aren't cumulative so its not bad at all. Just pay attention and you'll do great.
She is an amazing professor. She her sense of humor is dry, and sometimes comes off rude but is all around a nice lady. She is really helpful with 1 on 1 work. Her class is fairly easy. I learned a lot in her class and became very interested in the fashion industry.
She is great! Her assignments are a page and a half about a quote, and they're not hard at all. You must read the book, it helped me get good grades in her class. She makes class very interesting, and she is very nice with a dry sense of humor. And you only present one article all semester, but the course project is kinda long. I liked her a lot!
She is probably one of the best professors I've had at FIT. I've learned so much in her class. If you read the textbook you'll do fine. She's very descriptive when she presents her PowerPoints of the chapter and has a lot of industry experience. She actively engages the class in open discussions. I'll definitely be taking her for retail math.
Prof. Shapiro is an amazing woman! She has wonderful insight on the industry and knows what she's talking about. She's very kind and has a dry sense of humor, which I love. The only assignments were weekly quotes that were about a page long, not hard at all. There's a final and final paper, no midterm. Definitely get the book.
She is rude and makes students feel very uncomfortable. You have to buy the textbook and she does not give you the formulas on the test.
If math is not your strong point, it's likely you won't understand too well nor like her. No patience when students ask questions, & responds in a rude manner. She will single you out. She is average, at best. Teaches straight from the book (thankfully its easy), does not go beyond. Complains when a handful of students are not grasping a concept.

Has a tough personality, but a great teacher. once you get used to her, maybe a class or two, you'll love her. not a hard class but she teaches it all very well and clear, practices with you and makes sure you understand. I would deff take her again.
She is a tough teacher but she just wants students to take the learning with them to the real world. Everything that we went over in class were on each exam. Exams are not cumulative. No formula sheets for exams. She follows the book. You will understand the work much better if you do the homework and bring in the book/ calculator to every class.
If you're looking for an easy professor she is NOT it. Be prepared to have your textbook, HOMEWORK, calculator at ALL times. If not expect a BIG attitude. Also memorize formulas for tests! She's nice when she wants to be but VERY rude at times. If you're looking to be a buyer she's your kind of professor .
She may come off in a really bad way at first but she means well. She truly cares about her students and she'll explain the material to you until you get it. It is not a hard class but it can be a little confusing at times, she will help you. Attendance is mandatory if you miss one class you miss a ton of new information.
Professor Shapiro was the absolute best professor I've had at FIT so far. She really wants students to do well and works hard to make sure you understand the material. No partial credit is given on tests, but as long as you memorize the formulas (and attend every class), you'll be fine.

An absolutely excellent professor. Her New York sarcasm may be off-putting and harsh at first, but you'll get used to it. She is very tough and doesn't play games, but she knows the subject very well and will help you if you ever mean it. She really means well and truly cares about her students.
Best class I've taken. It was hard and there was a lot of work but this class will teach you real world experience. If you hand in everything in time and pay attention you'll do great. Best professor I've had.

Clear instructions & lots of insight but not a very pleasant teacher. Overly direct, snappy, and sarcastic, which makes it difficult to approach with questions. Saw 2 people cry in the class.

She is hard. She will challenge, you and you WILL feel accomplished after you completed the LONG projects and gone through semester in her class. I can't say that it was pleasant or that the help and feedback was very constructive She is set in her ways, rude when approached and most of the class I felt pretty dumb and stupid about myself. enjoy.
Took fm 224 class and i loved her class ! She went over the test and the test wasnt bad! It was easy! You do have weekly homework but it takes about 15 min to do it . If you have to take retail math, You should take her class!
You will dread going to class. She thinks she being funny, but is just so mean. Definition of a bully. The entire class is group projects. Never have any assignments on your own besides her midterm and final exam that is mostly essays and math related. Not many multiple choice. HAVE TO BUY THE BOOK and bring calculator if not will ask you to leave.
Prof Shapiro is one of the best professors at FIT, she makes you work and prepares you for the real world. If you want to go into buying, definitely take this class with her, you will never forget the important things that you need to know

At first I was scared because of the reviews and the first class she even said it herself she is very sarcastic, but in the second class when you show you are really interested in the class she is the best teacher you will ever have! she gives homework every week and tests which really aren't that hard. I'm definitely taking her again next semester

Take her class if you are willing to earn the grades. She is a fair grader and only sarcastic if you ask something that you should've known a long time ago. It is not an easy class with her but you will definitely learn. Don't take her if you have a lot on your plate though...
She knows what she's talking about and you'll definitely learn in this class. However, human error is almost unacceptable in this class. Don't skip or it may affect your grade drastically, even if you're under the limit of classes you can miss. Avoid if possible.

Professor Shapiro may seem intimidating at first but she is not, as long as you show her respect. The class is a lot of work but that goes for any merchandising class since its a capstone course. The final project at the end of the semester is a lot of work but you have a partner, just do not wait until the last minute to do it. Her tests are fair.

She really tries to make sure everyone understands the course material and incorporates several practical group projects and one individual project. Not too much work, but not too little.

Professor Shapiro is AMAZING! She will make you like math, and truly understand the concept. She makes sure everyone is following along and gives tons of examples of how this math is applied in the real world. Make sure you do the homework and show up and you will get an A because she makes it so easy to understand. Highly recommend!!
She is very blunt and aggressive at times. However, if you participate a lot and respect her, she will love you. She definitely cares a lot but has a weird way of showing it. She also complains a lot, but otherwise she is very thorough and a fantastic teacher. She does not give a lot of homework and there are only 3 exams. She's pretty awesome tho.
You do need your book for this course make sure to buy it! She will use all 3 hours of every lecture, but she knows what she's talking about. Your grade is made up almost exclusively by the three tests and participation. You will have weekly homework but its not long and not hard (would usually take me 30 minutes or less). I would recommend her!
SKIP CLASS YOU WON'T PASS!!!! Mean.. but smart.. She knows what she is saying but that is the ONE AND ONLY REASON you would take her. If GROUP PROJECTS aren't your thing, just don't take her.

At this point many of you know that classes can get super repetitive, but in this class, she wants you to really understand what you are getting yourself into with your major, so projects are kind of lengthy and tough, but she pushes you to succeed. Great Professor! Explain concepts in detail, makes sure you do well.
Intimidating, but very knowledgable about the industry. Wants her students to get real experience not just learning things from the textbook. Says you need the textbook, but there is no work from it. Largest grade is a 20 page paper, and oral powerpoint presentation that you must do with a partner, so if they don't do their work your grade suffers.
Professor Shapiro literally saved my life with fm224. All my life I have struggled with math and this was the first A I ever received in a math class. If you let her know math is your tricky subject she will provide you with all the help you need and always checks in to make sure you understand what is going on. I'm already signed up for her fm225
She does everything she can to help you but she can be very mean and nasty about it.
Very rude professor. She is smart, but I don't recommend taking her class unless you're extremely good at math. When asking for help, she'll get annoyed if you don't understand the subject right away. Can be very condescending. Participation matters- if you're not comfortable w/speaking often, avoid this class.
Prof. does not have any respect for int'l students and will give you a hard time if you have a "different" name. Gives an insane amount of homework and does not have regard for full time students. Her class is a priority and if you don't like that, she tells you to drop the class. Don't take her if you don't want to be stressed to the max.
Prof. Shapiro has very little respect for her students. She has no patience with int'l students and always tries to tell us how terrible her life is. HOWEVER, she's such a good teacher. You WILL get an A if you take her and you'll understand the reasons behind the math. Ignore her terrible personality; just show up to learn and you'll do great.

Smart but very condescending and unpleasant. She gives a ridiculous amount of homework and catches an attitude when you tell her you don't understand. She knows what she's doing but it's hard to get past her disgusting attitude. I had to get a tutor too because she makes it impossible to express any confusion in class.
This class I learned very much in, I even apply some things I learned here in other classes. The math was great but the world problems are kinda difficult. She's super bubbly, but very passive aggressive with a heavy attitude. If you don't work well with this, don't take the course!!!!
I know that there are some people on here who don't like her personality, but I really like her and enjoy the class. She prepares the class so well for the exams and the homework load isn't to difficult to handle. You are either going to like her personality or not but she's a really great teacher and you'll learn a lot.
Do yourself a favor and dont take her class. Shes extremely rude and will make you feel embarrassed when you are confused and ask for help. I personally have always had difficulty in math, and I did well in this class thanks to tutors, not to her.
Professor Shapiro is condescending and rude. She spends the majority of class time belittling students instead of teaching them. When she's acting like a mature adult, she has a lot to offer students, but she would spend the majority of class time talking about how miserable she was. If you're so miserable, find another job!
Prof. Shapiro really does care about her students! Her classes are necessary and informational, so go. If you go and apply yourself, you will do well. She wants to help you so be present in class and get to know her! Would take again!

I had an amazing experience learning retail math with professor Shapiro. She gives a lot of work but its only to teach us and push us to excel and do better. Her lectures were clear and shes so understanding of any difficulties you may hve. Shes so caring and makes retail math so enjoyable to learn, you will leave the class knowing your stuff.
I liked her for fm224. she taught math like math and helped with any questions. for fm225 bc classes got online she rushed through things bc we were always running out of time. but she grades fairly and you learn a lot in the class.
Every class I regretted even signing up for this course. This professor is rude and condescending. Takes more time singling out students, making them feel belittled, than actually explaining the content. If you could avoid taking this professor I would. She rushes through chapters and gets mad at students for asking questions.

I took her again bc I liked her math class. but bc classes were online we always ran out of time and rushed though the syllabus. fm225 has a lot of information and all of that is applied for the final project which is very hard and time consuming. she does help outside of class if needed. the midterm and final are very difficult.
I was scared to answer or ask questions in this class. she is so mean and makes the learning environment toxic. I would not recommend this teacher.

I had Prof. Shapiro for two classes throughout my FBM major. She is a phenomenal teacher, and you will learn a lot. She definitely is not an easy professor, for me I appreciate that kind of teaching because I work to prove myself more. She wants her students to succeed academically and in the future. Professor Shapiro is one of my favorite professors at FIT. On the first day of school she can be very intimidating and the projects are insanely heavy. However, it is the capstone class and I don't think I would have learned half as much if I didn't have her. She is a tough teacher but an easy grader and if you participate she will love you!
By far the MEANEST professor I have ever had. If you struggle with math, good luck asking her questions. She will make you feel stupid and embarrassed to ever ask again. She is so nasty and makes such mean side comments. Was constantly in the tutor center for her class. So much hw. The amount of times I have went back to my dorm and cried.
I would not recommend taking Professor Shapiro. One minute she is nice asking you about your day but then the next she is screaming at you. Her lectures are long, and boring but cover the entire textbook so no need to do the reading on your own. She made students cry on at least 4 different occasions this semester. Shes awful. Will never retake.
On numerous occasions, her instructions were vague and did not directly correspond to how she had explained them verbally. This resulted in great confusion among the majority of class. Unpredictable personality and created an unnecessarily tense classroom environment.
Her class isn't that hard, but she makes students feel dumb for asking questions and often publicly embarrasses students during class. She seems sweet at first then as the semester goes on, she gets ruder and meaner; like she's two-faced. She doesn't care about her students well being or mental health. I always felt uncomfortable speaking to her.
Anyone who has the opportunity to learn with Professor Shapiro is truly lucky. This woman is an angel and an amazing professor. If you have thick skin and a quick wit you will LOVE her. She has the greatest sense of humor and wonderful industry experience that makes her very wise. She is stern because she cares and wants her students to do well.

I can see how a lot of people would dislike Shapiro, but I LOVE her! She can be scary and you never know what is going to come out of her mouth, but she means well and just wants you to succeed. If you participate and work hard, she will love you back. 10/10 would recommend if you want to really learn and build a fun relationship with a professor!
AVOID HER IF YOU CAN! The course material is not hard however she makes things difficult. Her exam reviews are very vague considering there are so many topics covered in class making it extremely hard to memorize everything before the test. She taught me so much, probably one of the first times I have actually succeeded in a math class. if you pay attention, you will understand! she can be harsh but its because she wants you to do well. homework load isnt bad at all. also she has so much experience in the industry! she constantly said how much she loves our class.

I think she is clearly misunderstood amongst students. She is from New York, and her humor/conversational skills reflect that nature. She is passive aggressive, but I think it makes class entertaining. I learned a lot from her and she makes sure you know the course. I understand where people are coming from, but I genuinely think she means well.

Learn from me and avoid her at all costs. She is incredibly rude for NO REASON. I try my best to be understanding and kind, but she was still awful to me and my classmates. Every time before class I would get terrible anxiety thinking of how she would treat us. I had to hold back tears on the first day. She made me feel stupid despite my good grade
Math doesn't come easily to me, but Professor Shapiro helped me understand the foundation for the retail math concepts we'd be using throughout our associates and bachelors curriculum. She cares a lot about her students, and makes sure you understand the material. Her sense of humor isn't everyone's cup of tea, but bear with her! She's truly a gem.

Professor Shapiro is condescending and unnecessarily mean. In my class alone, she told several students to their faces that they were not smart or that she forgot they existed because they missed one class. You never know what mood she will be in, and that determines how the class will go. There's a reason she opts out of course evaluations.
Professor Shapiro is by far the best professor I have taken at FIT. You will enjoy her class and learn a lot if you are a good student. She's tough at first but notices good students who want to learn. If you do not take her class seriously she won't take you seriously. I have so much respect for her, take her class if want to ACTUALLY learn.
Professor Shapiro has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class can be rewarding. Keep up with the readings and assignments, and consider using resources like Unstuck study to supplement your prep - it really helped me grasp the concepts.

Most condescending and bipolar teacher I've ever had. Class showed her respect but she would still talk down to and power trip students. I would've actually enjoyed the material if I wasn't trying to just survive every uncomfortable class- she even made students cry. I don't know how she's still able to be a professor. Do NOT take her.

WORST PROFESSOR. She's mean spirited, her evil demeanor is not appropriate for an educational setting. Would've made a better prison guard or something. Bitter for an unknown reason, but snarky when she gets to exercise power. Bosses around like we're preschoolers who are for some reason being trained like navy seals. Hope that paints a picture.

If you can, please avoid taking this professors classes. She is very mean spirited and will make you feel dumb for asking questions, and if you answer something even slightly wrong she'll talk down at you and make you feel awful. Shes very picky with her grading but wont tell you what she wants. I will never take a class from her again.
Professor Shapiro made the class feel uncomfortable. Most students were scared to ask questions because she often responded in a rude or mean way. She would interrupt and criticize students mid-presentation in front of everyone if she didn't like something. Overall, it felt like we couldn't ask for help without being judged. Do not take her.
Her class is extremely DREADFUL, i did not enjoy this class AT ALL, She is very very harsh on students and would make uncomfortable comments about classmates, I wouldn't recommend taking her, PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN MENTAL HEALTH, do not take her.
I'm being so serious right now do NOT take this professor. Out of the many horrible things i've seen in this classroom, by far what Im about to say was the worst. During an exam I saw her snatch a paper from a international students desk and say she is not allowed to write in her NATIVE language because "This is America." I was absolutely repulsed.
i genuinely leave class feeling like the stupidest person alive, even though i know im not. shes the type that will put you on blast just to make a point to the entire class. mean spirited to the point you'll think you did something to her personally. do yourself a favor and avoid.
I don't give bad reviews so please take this as a warning. Her class drains you of all excitement about buying and its not about the material, it's about the delivery. Everyone dreads going because Professor Shapiro is an unbearably bad teacher. The only way i'd sign up is if I enjoyed being embarrassed and disrespected as a student in class.
Relentless bullying from professor. I fought for this grade.
I think if you are somebody who does okay or good in math and can quickly pick up on instructions you will do very good in this class - it's relatively simple to get an A. But, she was really rude to my classmates and often times embarrassed them during lectures. She puts down anybody who has a question and acts really bipolar... I don't recommend!
