Good class. Solid and fair
There were way too many papers and readings. But overall learned a lot.
Really easy class and he was very helpful and responsive to emails.
Easy to talk to and very understanding. Was always helpful
Always seemed like he wanted you to succeed. Overall great professor
While there was lots of homework, the class itself was really easy. Learned a lot. If you can't pass his class then you shouldn't be in college
We had lots of hw but they were easy. Didn't have class a lot so that was nice. The midterm was basically the same as the "practice quizes" in class. No final and got almost a 100 in the class. He's a bit new but cool
He was chill. Ill admit I learned some cool things. Only thing is that hes strict with deadlines. But amount of work was fair and really easy. Would even send reminders for hw and made basically forced you to get an A
Me. Debnath was a great Professor. The class was very interesting!!
Overall a good professor and wants you to succeed. The assignments and projects helped me learn a lot of neat things. The lectures were a bit dry sometimes though
Professor Debnath is great. You learn a lot in class. Sometimes it's a bit fast/bit much, but not overwhelming. Everything is easy and you just have to do it. Free textbook online which is awesome. If you come to class and do the work you'll be totally fine.
If you think his class is hard then you shouldn't be in college
Amazing professor. He's super nice and knows his stuff. Easy grader, easy tests. Just come to class, take notes, and you'll be fine. He's the best.
Professor Debnath is one of the most laid back professors at NOVA. His exams are easy if you pay attention to the lectures, and he is an easy grader when it comes to projects and classwork. He is very passionate about geography and is a good person overall.
There is one midterm exam and one final exam. Study guides are available for both tests. There are a few essays and you choose out of a list of topics what to research and write about. There are a few assignments with questions as well for homework. Lastly, one group project with the topic picked by the professor is to be completed.
Professor Debnath is really passionate about what he teaches and it is clear that he truly cares about his students. He makes it easy for students who want to be successful in his class to earn a good grade.
Very attentive professor. Really wants you to get an A. I would be shocked if you get less than a B. Lots of great material learned in class that I never knew about. The 3 times I emailed him he emailed back in less than 10 seconds
Professor Debnath is one of the best professors at Mason. His class is just right in being not too easy but not hard. As long as you meet him in the middle and do the work you're guaranteed an A. Nothing is graded hard. The midterm is just questions directly from in class practice quizzes and he even gives a review with everything.
I cant say enough good things about professor Debnat. He's such a good professor and always is there to help. I know I was probably a pain emailing every other day especially after Corona but he always made me feel like he was there to help. Youll learn lots of great information in his class!
great professor an interesting and easy class. if you attend and do the work which is really easy and not that much to do you will get an A the exams are easy and everything is from the slides
Overall Prof. Debnath makes it impossible for you not to pass. The material is extremely easy and the only way for you to fail is just to not turn stuff in. He's pretty funny in class and is very easy to communicate with. Lectures are very boring, but can't complain because it is such an easy A!
I took Professor Debnath online (Covid-19) and overall he is a good professor. He cares about his students, sends reminders when something is due and he responds to emails relatively fast. The material is self explanatory and you learn a lot. If you do not pass this class you shouldn't be in college.
Agree with other--such an incredibly easy A that if you don't pass you don't belong in college. Easy AF Global Understanding credit. Maybe 20 mins work a week & total like 8-10 hours the whole semester--it's really that easy. Just follow weekly modules & you're set. Easy exams with plenty of extra time, no reason not to get an A. Highly recommend!
Took a 6 week summer course with Professor Debnath. While its super fast paced (duh-6weeks), everything is pretty straightforward and overall I liked the class bc you really see things different. He was always there to help if you needed it too. I wouldnt say it was super easy though
210 online is highly self-directed: Read the things he recommends, not because you'll be graded, but because you need to absorb and think about the info you're given. Do your research, use the library database search to find sources. He's a pretty chill professor and offers lots of extra credit opportunities. Even his 6-week course was a breeze.
I took this 6 week class over Zoom this summer and it was a breeze. He just posted videos online for us to watch during the week while assignments were due weekly on Sundays. This class was super interesting and the assignments were all simple as can be. There is one final project but that is also really fun and easy. Take this class!
Probably best class to take to meet Global Understanding requirement. Easy if you just do the work which takes maybe 30 min a week. Only lazy people would not get an A in this class.
Had some essays that were 500 words each, a few assignments, a final project, and exams. Seems like a lot, but I loved how the workload was super manageable every week with 1 or maybe 2 assignments. It's a very self disciplined class, so you have to do the work. Also such a caring professor if you email him.
Timed map quizzes are stressful (1-2min long for 5 questions, spelling counts), odd format for discussion (requires sources/APA format), takes off points for petty things (like not submitted as word doc), late assignments not accepted unless prior approval. Overall tedious class and stingy/mediocre prof if you have no other options then take him.
Yeah idk what kind of idiot can't even pass GGS101. Dr. Debnath is one of the best professors . The map quizzes are the easiest things in the world (pun intended). How can you not type 5 words in 3 minutes is beyond me. The last poster needs to look himself in the mirror and tell himself he's an idiot for not even knowing how to cite in college.
don't take him, won't bump you if you have an 89.9% in the class. the person who said about him takes off points for petty things is true. I agree overall tedious and annoying class for a 100 level. map quizzes are way too short. weird weighted grades and point system. final & midterm both 20% each, hw is 12%, discussion is 15%, proj is 27%, quiz 6
Took GGS101 with prof Debnath and it was super fun! We had weekly map quizzes which were not bad at all and two discussion boards (mini papers) as well as two assignments which were again super easy. This class was very interesting, I learned a lot even just from an interest perspective, definitely worth taking!
he's okay, the class average was 85% for 100 level course, won't bump you're close to from 79 to 80 or 89 to 90. odd grading both points and weighted grades. midterm was 20 questions final was 50 questions both worth 20% of the overall grade, each question was 0.4 points each.
One of the best classes for global understanding credit and nicest professors.
Loved the class. Learned things I never knew about. Thought the class was balanced in terms of workload and content. Very manageable.
Strict sith due dates but i didnt have issues. Funny and personable. Overall great. Easy A imo.
I cant say enough good things about professor. I struggled a lot with a language barrier but he was always very accommodating and never treated me like I was bothering him. He would reply to emails within 10 minutes alaways there
TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT A GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING CREDIT. HE IS GOATED.
Such a manageable class. Enjoyed the material and nothing was not doable. God-send taking this class with organic chem. Really appreciated how relaxed this class was. Took 1 hour max a week
Policy on late work was too strict. Wouldn't let anyone turn in assignments after the due date which is unfair for a 101 level class.
I find it ironic people complaining about not being able to turn in late work in college. Not to mention he literally sends reminders before every single assignment is due as well every assignment being in the syllabus and taking maybe 30 minutes to complete. It was the best class for my style of laid back weekly modules.
This class was easy and he cares about the content, but he has zero tolerance for late work which landed me with a C. In a university setting I find it unreasonable to be so strict with late work, especially at a school like GMU where most students have full time jobs and commute to school. Please amend this policy for the sake of future students.
A great, laid back, prof. The late work policy is strict, but he sends ample reminders AND there isn't something due every week so literally just plan accordingly (It's college, come on). He's super kind and accessible for help as needed. I learned a lot and the work is manageable! If you want an easy class to fulfill your Mason core take him!
2 textsbooks free online, 2 test, and some discussions and assignments. for a class of 100 students, i thought professor debnat did great job. I had trouble with language but when i emailed he always explained well. thank you professor.
Sends out reminders often so students submit assignments on time. Professor Debnath is always positive about what you turn in by telling you to keep up the good work. The only task that seems challenging in this class is a ten-minute recorded presentation on powerpoint. But even that is easy because of his laid-back and appreciative nature.
There was lots of hw. The MapMaster hws were pretty hard. But the content of the class was cool and wasnt hard. Tests were easy. The class was taught by professor Sherry and professor Piash
Professor Piash Debath is very knowledgeable and responds to emails two seconds after sent. This class is really well organized and the amount of work is VERY reasonable. As long as directions are followed, you're given the grade you perform. If you have an opportunity to take him, he's great. Especially if you're a busy person. Thank you!
If you suck at time management and not good online, then def dont take this class. But for me it was very reasonable and everything was super clear and precise within the weekly modules. Tests were open notes. And final project itinerary was fun to me. Only hard thing were the timed Map Quizzes of regions, but I found them easy once you study.
Even tho the late policy was super strict, you can ask even even 10 minutes before the due date for an extension and the professor gladly would always say yes and reply very kindly.
Great professor that's understanding. The course load can be a little time consuming, but he's super understanding of any late material. There is a strict late policy so beware. The material is interesting and he provides good feedback
Course was VERY organized. Probably one of the most straightforward class I've ever taken online. Found him to be an easy grader too. Definitely recommend for a Global Understanding credit.
There is a chapter of a provided textbook to read each week. It pretty lengthy. You only need to read them to be prepared for the test, however if you watch the lecture you'll be fine since the tests are open note. The assignments are really easy and don't take over 1hr if you work on it all at one time.
A 6-week summer course with many quizzes, tests, and assignments. Easy grader but strict with deadlines.
I learned a lot in this class and enjoyed it. The map quizzes are timed and go very quickly, that was the hardest part.
wouldnt let me turn in any late work. No need to be so strict four 101 lvl class
Rude and doesn't respect his students. If you want to email him get ready to feel disrespected. Giving him a 1 star is too high lol
Easy A. weekly quizzes that take a few minutes. a couple of discussions and 2 tests. Study a bit you will get an A.
Easiest class I've taken in gmu. Literally anyone who complains about the professor or this class is WACK and doesn't. Extremely understanding, fair, and clear with directions!! Weekly map quizzes, reading, 3 homeworks, 3 discussion board posts (essays), final project, midterm and final. If you don't have an A in this class how are you in college?
I took this class as an asynchronous class. The course is set up very well and the grading criteria is very clear. For an online class it's one of my favorite classes I've taken so far. I highly recommend signing up for an asynchronous or an online class if you can't get into an in person section.
Easiest class ever.
I had a slew of medical issues this semester but he was so accommodating and kind.
Very simple, straightforward, and easy class. Three discussion boards, weekly map quizzes, three homework assignments, a final project, a midterm, and a final. I highly recommend taking this course if you need it.
dope dude. really cool guy inside and outside of class. has a free online textbook. young dude with a lot of tech experience and a nice guy who cares a lot about his students, even if they're online like I was.
This class was really simple and I liked how organized his blackboard was. There are a couple of timed map quizzes, exercise homework, and exams that require lockdown (with camera). Take his class!!
Not clear lectures and no guidance as to what was on the tests. No flexibility in grading, making material available when needed or answer questions or provide help with content or class materials or projects. Very short and discourteous responses. Some of this material could have been quite interesting but the lectures were boring
This class was overall very manageable. Weekly map quizzes, a few exams, 3 discussion posts, and a few assignments + a final. Lectures were very informational and the professor is very humble. I would recommend this course to anyone who needs the Mason core credit.
lovely professor, so nice and very VERY clear with what he expects. grades were super timely too which was very useful. honestly this is an incredibly easy A as long as you are willing to do work. would definitely recommend this class and prof to anyone!
Professor Debnath is funny, approachable, caring, and strict all at the same time. Textbook was free and everything was extremely manageable to me. It's hard to not get a 100 in assignments. But if you're used to late work and bad time management then u might struggle? But super easy content for the average college person imo
Super cool dude. And he makes Maps! I think he's famous bc Ive seen his maps online randomly on reddit, insta, and tiktok. He's also been to like 100 countries and makes the class content very interesting and EASY.
Breakdown: 3 Discussion boards, Map quizzes every Sunday, and three assignments. Final paper and exam. You'd have to be extremely unwilling to do anything to get a bad grade. Easy A. He is super nice and loves what he does. The final paper was about a personal trip you want to take, very engaging. Save your GPA.
Although this class was very interesting it is very time consuming. The weekly map quizzes are timed and although some are quite easy others are pretty challenging. There is a ton of material that you have to know for the timed tests which are not open book or open notes. The study guide does not prep you for what material to focus on .
Prof. Debnath was great! I took his GEO 210 as a 6-week Summer class, but it was not overwhelming at all. Lectures were recorded to watch in your own time, assignments were easy (only one or two per week), and the Midterm and Final were open note. He was also quick at responding and very kind when messaged for any reason! Would take again.
people are right, idk how anyone can not get a good grade. Everything is super clear and not difficult. A lot of information, but very smooth as a class. STRICT with due dates though.
it was an online class and most of the quizes were map quiz, you just have to make sure you are turning assignments in on time
Professor Debnath's class was one of the best online classes I'd ever taken. There was so much material, yet not overwhelming whatsoever. He was always available and made everything super easy and extremely doable for every week. The last exam was even omitted if you had an A. Highly recommend!!!
A really chill professor, like I don't think he cares that much. Didn't assign many assignments. Test had 50 questions each, but were pretty simple and easy. The only long assignment was the final project which had a word count of 1300 but I don't think he even read it as I missed some stuff in the rubric and still got a 100%.
I had a family death in the family and had to fly overseas unexpectedly and he was not understanding at all. No sympathy, no help at all. I have gotten some understanding from all my other professors but him. It's not even a professor thing, it's being human to understand
The worst of the worst at Mason and mind you, I am a senior and have had amazing professors until I met Piash. Although his class is a piece of cake, he is not caring, understanding, and uses students challenging situations against you! I had an A until I had a tech issue that resulted in receiving a 0 on final project which brought my grade to a C
This professor needs to get fired! NOT fit to be a professor. If you a student with life happening, he wont care about you nor ur problems. Be ready to be asked for proof when a family member passes away.. like what? you want the death certificate. No passion for his profession & cold-hearted. PS you do not even use the textbook that is required.
His syllabus is the same old & boring for about years now. He does nothing, other than ruin your college experience. His TA grades EVERYTHING so you can not even ask questions bc he won't know. He is NOT HELPFUL and not human. Shows no emotions and does not care about students. You got life happening, well he WON'T CARE. Idk what he gets paid for..
I do not get why he has many good reviews. Yes his class is easy and the assignments are slight but when it comes to needing your professor's help a big fat 0. I do not understand how someone can be a professor without being there for your students..
He is a very self-centered, pretentious professor. He talks about traveling all around the world in his lectures and pretends like we all regularly go to the places he visits. He is an extremely uncaring, borderline unbearable professor who cannot write a test to save his life.
Bro, this class was actually useful and well-structured. No dumb busy work, just quizzes, a few assignments, and a final project. Lectures were interesting, and grading was chill. He keeps things super organized, responds to emails within minutes, and makes it smooth. If you want a chill, GPA-friendly class that's not a waste of time, take this one
Professor Debnath is one of NOVA's most well-known professors. His travel stories are legendary, seriously, this man has been fkn everywhere. He makes class material actually interesting and keeps things super organized. Chill as ice guy, easy grading, no fluff. The group project prez was annoying tho
worst professor in my educational history
He WILL NOT care about any traumatic events in your life nor care about your mental health... if anything he made my mental health worse
Avoid his course AT ALL COST
I am not sure why he is still a professor here. Never have I met someone so cruel
You are a student with a life and things happen.. unfortunate events ... well HE WONT CARE!
I do not recommend. he is so mean
Save yourself and do not believe the good reviews.. HE IS THE WORST
my mental health is failing bc of him
This class was disappointing. Communication felt one-sided, and the learning environment didn't feel supportive. I didn't feel encouraged to grow or engage, which made it hard to stay motivated.
Class was lowkey so organized and easy to keep up with. Solid content but not overwhelming at all. Super manageable, no stress. Would 100% take again
Professor Maction and Debnath were great
Idk how anyone could hate this class or not pass unless they had a lobotomy. Ice chill guy in a good way
He was such a good orator and so engaging. Would definitely recommend. The class was chefs kiss easy and so manageable
RUN for life! He was such a good professor for other courses I took but for this course run! I He is the toughest grader I don't know what the good feedback is for. Save yourself! Even though there's no final he gives lots of homework and papers and he is the harshest grader ever! Maybe he read all this good comments and decided to challenge us!
Easy and relatively interesting online course. Open notes for just about everything. Professor is responsive and grades accurately.
