boring as hell...dont take unless prerequisite
He is very interesting, actually you'll feel like in a TLC show, + learning too
He was available to teach maths in an interesting way!
Excellent teacher!!! Learn alot from him!
best teacher I've had in University
No Comments
He is simply awesome!! Absolutely the best teacher ever (for teaching and serious jokes)!! His notes are better than the book!! and his exam reflect the material covered, so no complain.
He made me believe that I could succeed in math.
Knows his stuff and is interesting. However, he is unreachable between lectures! EVEN THE DEPTARTMENT CAN'T REACH HIM! This is unacceptable and to me, seems arrogant. Putting that problem aside, he's one of the best.
Makes everything seems so easy, until you realize you took it too easily during for the midterm. Relates problems to real examples. Knows what he's talking about.
he teaches well, very clearly. But the course material seems so easy...then you get to the midterm. Then you're like crap!! hehe
He is one of the best!I was in love in him and his course!!!if you're taking any courses with him you will never ever regret!
Gauthier is a very good teacher. He explains the concepts clearly. To master his course you have to do A LOT of problems from the book beside the assignment's problems. Midterm was fair BUT the time was too short to solve it!! Final exam was fair too.
He is great! By far the best math teacher I've come across IN MY LIFE!!!
Dr. Gauthier is one of the most knowledgable and helpful professors you will ever encounter in this university. Suffice to say, I added math as a minor after taking this course with him. Too bad he doesn't teach higher level math courses.
THis guy is a genius... Thats all I have to say
Probably the best professor I've had so far. Knows his material very well and makes learning the subject fun. Don't take the ease of understanding for granted....do problems.
great prof. knows the subject better than anyone i've ever met. very approachable, and truly cares about what each student is taking away from his classes
The only good thing ic in Gauthier is teach very clear and slow,no doubt, but very hard, unreliable.Missed 2 (3hr lectures),came 15 minutes late to one lecture, and left 1 hr early to another-still able to catch up with other classes, means he didn't cover much in class.Assignment duedates never clear.
I will always remember this teacher. He has a deep passion for the topic he handles, and he has the ability to pass it on to others. He is the best teacher I ever had.
Best math teacher i've had in a looooong time. If you have the chance to take him then dont waste it. Very clear, helpful and exams are predictable.
He is an excellent teacher. He explains the materials very clearly. He is glad to assist you when you need. His English is excellent, unlike other professors. Besides, he is very kind.he is the best professor I have ever had.
very good teacher, but an unfair and hard marker. Takes forever to mark midterm and assignments
Gauthier excellent teacher his only disadvantage its that he takes FOREVER to correct midterms! He explains everything so clearly, he goes slowly and go through all the material. i adored math with him. his english is very clear.TAKE HIM
As a professor purely based on what he produces in lectures, he is the best. Outside of class he is unreachable, which is a huge obstacle. Takes the maximum possible time to get back assignments and tests. Obviously an extremely busy man and should probably make a choice between teaching and his career, his career is probably the better choice thou

Have him for linear. He explains everything in detail from the stuff u learn in highschool to the hard stuff. First part is review and might get boring from repetiveness. I'm avging a 93% ATM, got 100 on an exam also.
Excellent teacher, Best Math Professor ive ever had in any level. He should teach Professor "Alexandre Darku" in Economics how to teach like a REAL teacher. Good Job Pierre, hope there will b more teachers like you.
Had him for Linear. Explains a bit of theory on why 'this leads to that' etc before you get into the actual calculations. His explainations are clear. Tests are stupid easy, especially the Matrix. Avg 92% in the class before final. I didn't even read the book, I just took his notes & examples in class.
One of the best teachers yet at Concordia. Teaches exactly what needs to be taught and skips all the bullsh*t. His mid-terms are really easy too. If you have some difficulties in Math this is the guy to take.
he is a nice professor have ever had! engr243 dynamics....the course that all engineering students hate it. but he made it easy and sweet...i'm in civil and my be take mechanical as my second degree....don't waste ur time buying books...study his notes and take his advices and be sure u gonna get a sweet piece of cake A+....
A very nice professor. Knows the material indepth. Very helpful and cares about his students. (Jasmin)
one of the best teachers I ever had in university!
he teaches well..very knowledgeable..will clarify whatever you wouldn't understand..but..he's very busy..hardly give you extra time..sometimes cancels classes..doesn't follow book at all..so if u miss lecture ..u r ****ed up..hard marker..if u want a good grade dont go..
Good in-class. However, clearly unwilling to spend any additional time to help outside of class hours. First out when a lecture is done. Impossible to reach via repeated emails... he doesn't even bother to acknowledge. Considering the tuition is the same, get a prof who actually likes teaching. Like Dryanov, who is better than Pierre can dream of.
Never in his office hours, Arrogant and very hard marker.
One of the top 3 teachers I have encountered at Concordia. There might be a couple bad reviews for the summer term, which is comprehensible given the fact that the schedule is very condensed which means you can't neglect material for long. The prep for the final was adequate (2 whole classes). I found this helpful : www.mathstat.concordia.ca/m208/
Had him for the summer term and he often cut classes short(a 3 hr class finished in half the time) which was bad 'cuz the material is already condensed and he seemed to speed through due to insufficent time on other days. He tends to do easy examples in class and 'dumb' down the material. However, does give chances but not the best math teacher.
he is the best
Great prof. Explains things really well. Very approachable, and you can always ask a question in calss & he'll answer you. Had him for the summer, class was cut in half most of the time which was great. I never had to see him during office hrs, but I hear he's not that available outside of class.
Cuts the class from half, solves easy assignments but asks hard questions during the tests.Never in his office (I guess our questions and understanding is not important).
Best math teacher I ever had. Calculus doesn't seem friendly but with him, it doesn't seem hard at all. No "math panic" here. And for the lasy jerks, you CANNOT skip practice, as you must practice A LOT in any course of math to get a good grade and lasting skills. With that in mind, the exams were more formalities than tricky challenges.
Best Teacher ever had , i wish he teaches all ma courses
Good Prof. He knows his stuff. Not very difficult for a fourth year/grad class. He didn't show up at his office hour when I was there and wouldn't answer my emails. Be in class as much as possible, txtbk is not enough. And by the way, be VERY familiar with free vortex theory for the final because it appeared in every single questions on our final..
He is very good teacher due to his clarity. However, he's not that available outside of class when you need extra help. I went to go see him twice during his office hours and he wasn't there. Also, he tends to always be in a rush to leave after class is done.
One of the best Math theachers I've ever had, only problem that he is a very busy man, he wont have time for you.
very good
If you hate calculus, this is the prof for you! Calculus can be hard, because there's a lot to know, and this guy actually makes it NOT stressful. He is really good. Take his class. You will be happy with your choice.
Gautier literally kept me on the edge of my seat during Fourier series. I didn't think math could be so awesome. He does have a more than full time job and a family so it's true that he's hard to reach outside of class. If you have questions sit up near the front and ask him during or right after class. He loves his students though and you can tell
a very good and cool teacher. if you don't like math, you will like it and if you like math, you will adore it :) the only problem is you can't reach him and the final is very hard. his midterm is ok.
Very very good teacher! Lectures are just awesome. It makes things very easy to understand. The class of Gas turbine design is only based on one big project. If you have a question, you will have to wait for months to receive an email from him. He's never here for u, but awesome teacher. Easy to get a good grade for the project.
He is one of my best teachers I ever had, so clear, so interesting to listen to him, and straight to the point. He knows everything he is talking about and has a lot of knowledge. Unfortunately there are no office hours.
The best math teacher Ive had so far, very Clear, has full controll over his knowledge and he enjoys his work.
He is a great teacher .. you will love the course with him but i suffered from trying to meet him out of class .. he doesn't reply to his emails .. he never at his office , so he is party a busy man .. but as professor during a lecture he is the best . he made the topic very clear and he knows what he is talking about ..
Best math-engineering teacher I have ever had. Knows how to explain and connect mathematically to daily life. Do try to get get him, if you can, and you would never regret.:)
Amazing...simply amazing, knows anything about everything. Will make you love math. He leaves out the useless stuff, he'll teach exactly what will be on the test.
Possibly the greatest in the school. He's the best I've ever had. His midterm is hard but if you attend class and go over his examples you should do fine. He explains everything extremely clearly and and drops "hints" to what is going to be covered on a test.
Awesome teacher! Very good at teaching math and making it interesting. Take this guy and you will not regret it. A+
Awesome Teacher!!
very cool teacher one of the best i had in concordia
Looks like Paul Newman with glasses & one of the best profs. Links math & theory with concrete examples so it's a joy to listen to his lectures. Explains topics well & connects it with relevant topics previously learned. Great professor like him are ones where you learn something from his lectures even if you have already read the textbook.
Very funny guy and best prof I had at the University level hands down. Crystal clear, relates theory to practical real life situations, and cuts down all the BS and teaches you the main stuff which will end up on your exams. Also is not afraid to re-explain to you high school stuff such as partial fractions and integration techniques..
The best ever!!! try to take him by all means!!!!!
The best math proffessor ever. You will want to attend this his lecture - both intersting and informative. So busy can be hard to get a seat, so arrive early. Take him.
This guy is legendary. Take every class he offers. A true motivator, amazing lecturer, funny guy and cares about your learning. The best professor at Concordia. He makes you realize and sparks your interest in engineering, that passion. no nonsense about theory or confusing notation. love it.
The best professor i have ever met really !!
Very clear lectures and explanations. Can be difficult to reach outside of class hours. Takes very long time to give back graded quizzes and midterm. Tests are difficult, but much of the content is covered on the tutorials - attending them is recommended.
Awesome lectures, you should definitely not skip his classes. Make sure to do all the tutorial exercise questions for practice. Quizzes are a little tough, easy midterm, very hard final. When he tells you what is going to be covered on tests, take it with a grain of salt since there tends to be more than he says, study everything.
he is the type of professor that you enjoy his lecture. his exams are fair, not very hard nor easy. i recommend him
He's the best I've seen so far at Concordia and I'm 90% done. Very clear and funny. You don't get bored in his class. Keeps everyone quite and has a very good control to his class (study and discipline wise). Don't miss his classes. mid terms are fairly easy, finals are not that hard. You need to solve many problems before exams and will be fine.
great teacher! motivated interesting lectures in the summer he runs the show. let us make our own formula sheet with graphs! posted entire textbook online on the midterm one question was impossible to solve, would not admit his mistake but he knocked it off at the final he came for 5 minutes in the beginning and did not come back at all
Did not answer e-mails (which may drive you crazy if you want to see him after the final). Kept forgetting to post what he was supposed to on Moodle. Returned graded exams later than he said he would. Class examples were too easy. Interesting lecturer, captivates your interest, but nothing more.
Perfect teaching approach and in general the best teacher I've ever had at Concordia, if you want to feel a bit a professional and competent person just take courses whichever you have to with him!!!!! Once the final is gone, forget about him!!!!!!!!
Confusing Moodle : A bunch of repetitive material . ( Last year Moodle ? Dates don't match). Good teaching. Although some long and boring lectures towards the end. Waits till you fill in course evaluation to give the second midterm. Not very approchable if he hates you.
Great guy and great professor! Take him any time you can
He is an experienced and professional professor, who has extensive real world problemsapplications to the math being learnt in his class. He wants everybody to succeed, and allows for formula sheet during midterms and exams. Stay focused, positive, and do some problems and you will do just fine.
Great professor! He made the class interesting and the material clear . For a summer class, there was a lot of people attending his lectures. He also gives an additional Matlab assignment, very useful and fair enough for the amount of Matlab taught in tutorials I found that the final was long. Many people couldn't finish at least one question.
He is not a good prof at all. avoid him...
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Enjoyed every single session of his classes.
Very difficult to reach outside of classes and doesn't keep his word. Would not recommend.
He is one of the best prof. in Concordia. He is really helpful and carrying.
One of the very few professors that I can say is passionate about what he teaches, and makes you feel the same way. Lectures are crystal clear, just study the class examples and you will do just fine. 1 con: not reliable outside of class
Amazing knowledge and teaching, terrible exams and marking.
He s a good teacher but is always busy and in a rush to leave the class so he doesn t really answer to questions. His lectures are crystal clear.
Not a very good teacher. He does not care about his students and he is not very thorough. You can study from home since he is useless.
Took the class in summer. He use to finish class 1 hour early. In summer when time is limited finishing 1 hour early is a really bad thing. Never showed interest in teaching. Waited till after we filled the course evaluation sheet to return the midterms so that he stays safe. Class average for the midterm was 55% and 42 people failed the class.
Very nice and can teach well. Uses examples straight from the book, not always very useful. Issue is he doesn't care about teaching/students. Good luck meeting with him/getting him to answer emails to review exams/ask questions. You have to work on your own a lot to get a good grade. Overall okay choice, would take again but would not recommend.
Just a really good teacher. Explains concepts clearly and always relates the topics to real life situations. He doesn't rush through anything and really seems to care about his students' understanding. Would definitely take other classes with him if I had that option.
so far the best I have had, by far!
so far the best I have had, by far! Crystal clear, easy midterm
Taken during summer, this teacher comes in late and finishes early. He wasn't there for our final exam, because he booked a flight on the day of our exam.. There was also an error with one of the questions. His midterm was easy, but his final doesn't represent what he taught in class. 3/4 of his lectures are on drawing the same figure. Don't take.
He's a good explainer , the midterm was easy but the average was so low( 58%) bcuz he's a tough grader. There were only 5 problems in the final, all of them were really hard even I studied hard for this class; I did all homework problems in the text book. If you wanna get good grade in his class, try to solve his previous finals
Easy midterm; impossible final. He does not take teaching seriously: purposely assigned practice problems & mock review exam with no resemblance to the actual final; miscalculated the grades of 20 students on midterm, never bothered to show up to final, etc. I came into the class with 4.2 of overall gpa; leaving probably with less than 4. AVOID
This guy is a genius, originally a math major and it shows. He is super detailed in his explanations and they are great. This is a double edge sword as his tests are real wild cards, either easy questions or straight up the wack problems from hell that you needed to do all the text + extra problems to understand. Beware his crazy tests/finals.
Perfect explanations, shows genuine interest in the subject. However, his exams are very challenging
Took ENGR311 as a prereq. course for my masters with him. This professor is respected and clear in what he is teaching. If you are a serious student who studies well and attends the tutorial every week you'll do great. Before taking this course years passed without solving Math, but there wasn't a problem catching up because of the clear lectures.
Simply Amazing!
In class he solves questions in which all the needed data and numbers are given in the original question. So all he does is simply plug in the given data in an equation. And he says (look class how easy this is). But don't be fooled those questions will never appear in any of his exams. You will have to find all the data by yourself. Study hard.
best professor concordia has to offer! In 3 years he is the only prof that has obviously understood the course material and can explain it flawlessly and comprehensibly. 11/10 recommend taking him wherever it is an option!!
He marks quite strictly. Provides less practice sheets and expects more in the exams. He's not accessible outside the class.
Awesome lectures. Very reasonable grader. Easy exams. One complaint I have: he walked into the exam and answered questions for the first few minutes, and that was the last we saw of him for the rest of the final.
Hes is the best professor in the university. You could ask as many questions as you want and as stupid as they could be , he would answer them clearly. All your basics would be strong after taking his class. when he teaches, he inspires and would make understand physical significance of everything he teaches. I highly recommend to take his class.
Without a doubt the best instructor that I've had at Concordia. Gives clear explanations and makes the subject matter interesting.
he's alright. Typical cool prof. A bit overrated Not there during OH. Doesn't respond to emails.
I took him for ENGR391 after waking with another professor. His methods and notes are very clear and concise.
one of the best profs i've ever met in concordia. looking forward to taking his lecture again in the future!!
i took Gas Dynamics at the beginning the class is great and the lectures are very clear and easy HOWEVER exams are a different story and grading is nearly impossible
He puts effort in teaching. but Final exam is totally different and difficult. Mid-term was OK. in his course "work hard and expect less".
He is one of the few gems in this university. The way he explains is really easy to understand and his examples are enough for you to do the tests. My one gripe with him is that his final exam was too long, and he wasn't there to answer questions during the final. Despite that, he is an absolute must for ENGR 391.
Dr. P.Q. Gauthier is one of the best lecturers I have ever witnessed at Concordia. He is truly very knowledgeable and always relates the topics to real life applications. However, his exams are extremely difficult and do not correspond to the level of problems that are taught in class. Mech 370 midterm & final were absolutely brutal, very stressful
Good lecturer, but it ends there. You cannot rely on him for anything else. No office hours, hardly posts any suggested problems (just tells you to solve the entire textbook as practice yet the exam questions are always 50x harder). He speaks good English and has very high IQ, but it all goes to waste once you look at the difficulty of his exams...
Horrible summer semester with him. He's lost and doesn't follow up with things he says in class. Doesn't answer emails and is very confusing in the material covered.
He doesn't value your time. Took an online class with him and he would never show up for any zoom office hours or reply to any of the emails. Makes a lot of mistakes in this lecture notes and exams are very lengthy. He is very knowledgeable but not a good professor.
Impossible to reach the guy... He never answers his emails ! He's a tough grader and don't ask for explanation because you won't get any. I do not recommend. I took this class as an elective and be sure it was the last time i took a class with that teacher.
A complete clown. Schedules labs OUTSIDE of the regular lab schedule. Never answers questions and cuts a 2hr45min lecture down to 2, and ignores most all questions asked. Just says 'bye.' He signed for this. He signed up to be available for the entire class period. He is a joke for just leaving at his convenience.
We had a final exam at 9Am this morning? Exam was not posted until 9:20. He's always late. I know he's doing other things outside of teaching, but if he can't handle all the load and be organized, he should stop teaching. Being a prof is not only about giving a lecture and going off to do your own things. He never responds to emails or help.
The suggested problems he gives you is not reflective of the difficulty of the quizzes/exams. Admits to never reading emails. Doesn't attend his own office hours. Will leave you stranded. He is good at lecturing but other that that, doesn't at all prepare you or help you through this class. It's such a shame since he seems nice but is just awful.
If you want to understand real world applications of what you're learning, you should take Dr. Gauthier. He relates every single formula and theorem to real life examples and makes it much easier and clearer to understand the concepts behind it. Knows his stuff very well and expects you to put in the hours to study, it is after all a math class.
Only take this class if you're serious about learning "GAS DYNAMICS". Classes feel lengthy but he covers a great amount. His explanations are clear. He also answers to any questions you have no matter how silly. Project is simple. Inaccessible outside lectures. Exam is easy only if you practice several questions, but extremely lengthy. Hardwork!
He's a tough teacher who expects discipline from everyone. His lectures are very exciting and he teaches so well. He likes to show how course material links to real world applications. His exams were hard though, but also ENGR 311 is a very difficult course so definitely take him and not someone else for it.
While he is good at lecturing, that does not compensate for the complete lack of other support. He is impossible to reach outside of class since he doesn't answer emails or attend his office hours. Once he is done lecturing, he races for the door. His lectures were focused on practical applications, which is nice. VERY TOUGH EXAMS/GRADING
irresponsible professor, he does not answer students, very tough in grading
Avoid at all costs. He is already too busy with his other jobs that he shouldn't be a teacher. Misses classes and assignments are so tough, they don't even feel for same subject. Grading is completely random and literally misses 40% of the syllabus and says well good luck. Makes the finals open book, but nothing is from the book. COMPLETELY AVOID.
He is one of the best professors I took so far. He explains the materail so well and he is really funny, but his exams are tough. One issue I found with him that he never responds to emails.
Pierre is a well-known professor. I took him for ENGR311 and again for MECH370. Very respected. Lectures are very good. He uses very simple terms to explain, shows a sign of great teaching experience. However, for MECH370, he was less organized than ENGR311. Thats why I give him a 4 instead of a 5 in MECH370.
A great professor. He teaches you exactly what you need to know for the exams. There are no tricks to it. Study what he covers in class and you will get a good grade. Just wish he would answer his emails, but besides that he's one of the best at Concordia.
Best prof I've had at Concordia hands down. His lectures are clear, and goes through every sample very clearly and never misses any steps even if it's the third time he's solving a problem. Midterm and final was very similar to what he taught in class and was very fair. As long as you go to class and pay attention you'll do well in the class
Fair and clear
Great teacher overall
Very knowledgeable with great lectures, but courses are demanding. Exams are challenging and grading is strict. Hard to reach outside class, but he cares about student learning.
Great teacher, fun, and explains well. He gave us a 5% bonus on the midterm if we dressed up in costumes (it was Halloween). BUT the entire class got destroyed by the final exam... everyone is complaining about their final grades.
Very good lecturer, clear explanations and very knowledgeable. Very non responsive by email and often late for classes or office hours.
