The most unhelpful teacher I ever had. Waited 20 minutes after class to ask him a question to which he replied, 'I don't know.' Unwilling to discuss ideas that are outside the general realm of those he has considered. 'Answer your own questions!'

By far, one of the worse teachers I've ever had. He once asked me a question which I could not answer. He then suggested that I drop from his class(which I did). This was the honest truth. Choose any other professor except him for Philosophy.

Pierre is awesome! Most people think that he is unconventional... that's the best part about him! He challenges his students by asking tough questions, as well as making them question the world around them. His classes changed my life!

This guy is great. You only get confused if you're an idiot. All you have to do is let go of the things that you've been taught your whole life, and just deal with whatever is being discussed at the time!

Hard to get a grasp on what he teaches. If you like structure in a class (ie, a syllabus, class schedule) then this is not the class for you.

This teacher is excellent. Better than any other teacher i have ever taken. Teaches...doesn't ramble like a moron bout their life. OF course his class takes work but he keeps ur mind there soo its not that bad very interesting guy makes me laugh a lot. Take his course...very fun

I'm not quite sure why he's so low on the totem pole. he's the most brilliant mind in his filed...just ask around. do not listen to any of the negative criticism other than those about stucture. you will be changed if you take his course.

He is very funny at the begining then it just gets boring. No syllabus given so i dont even no what the hell i was doing in there and when test is gonna be or what the hell was going to be when. Very unclear atlease give us a hint of how we are to pass the class fool. Make a Syllabus!!!

If your intrested in life of a higher order take the class.If your interseted in life of a lower, don't.He can come across as abrasive during class but thats just for fun.If your intested in truth, beauty, justice, and wisdom he will meet with you after class and give you as much time as you need, free of charge.He changed my life, screw the grades

Worst teacher I have ever had! Goes off with irelavent conversations. IS very unclear and has no structure for the class. Has groupies come in to sit in but are not enrolled.. like its a cult and says things to make you feel uncomfortable. Instead of teaching ethics of values and reasoning he bashed on religion most of the time. terrible class

A Neo-Platonist who brings a unique perspective to the philosophical void that is modern life. He is the bane of Jesus Freaks. I spotted him at an anti-war protest where the fear of being recognized by the likes of me was evident on his face.

My Grimes has totally changed my ways of looking at life. He has a beautiful mind and one that holds you in supspense with such intrigueness. Right when you begin to grasp a concept, another door opens and you let it go to have a higher understanding of that idea. The more you think you know, the more you really don't know.

When I had him, we were allowed to re-write as many times as we wanted our one paper to improve our understanding. Your grade for the class was entirely up to you and how much excellence in understanding you wanted to strive for. Wish all my teachers since would do the same! It's the best way to learn and see.

I have to say that after taking classes this semester sans Pierre, the contrast is amazing. Pierre is truly an incredible professor, far beyond what you typically find at a community college. His classes were very difficult because true learning is very difficult. I would do it all over with the classes being even harder. I miss Pierre already.

One of the best classes I have ever taken. Very even exposure to world class scholarship not typically found at the community college level. As has been said, our very own Socrates. If you do not interpret, you will get a good grade on your test. I became interested in classics because of Dr. Grimes.

worst teacher ever. I am now at UCI and it just shows the guy does not know what he is doing. Only 6 people passed the class out of 50. My only C at Golden West. Do not take this guy.

Ohh good old pierre..His class is a once in a lifetime experience. I got an A in his class and really have no idea what went on during the whole thing.Half the time i was freakin out that I would fail. In the end it went ok.Just make sure you take good notes.My study group also helped alot.

I took Grimes in Spring of 1993 with FULL KNOWLEDGE that he was both brilliant and impossibly hard. I gave it my all for a month and a half, then dropped. Everything written here is true. He is a genius. He makes no sense a good portion of the time. He is a ball breaker. He COULD change your life. It didn't happen for me though...

I'm not going to say this guy sucks. As a matter of fact i think he's brilliant, but if you're not a philosophy major do not take him. I was confused the entire semester, i had no idea what was going on. If philosophy is not your forte, find another teacher.

I can honestly say i went to the 2 day a week class 5 times. I got the 3 assignments due at the end of the semester and handed them in. He told me to add a paragraph and i would recieve a B, tell him why my findings mattered and I would get an A. I went with the B ---- EASY CLASS

One day, probably sooner than later, Grimes will no longer be at GWC. He will never be replaced. Forget the grades. Grimes' teaches scholarship. In this class you will do all the work; Grimes will provide the direction. This class, like no other, depends on participation. If Ss don't come ready to participate, then class bombs, lecture lags.

Pierre is - no exaggeration - the reincarnation of Socrates. Alan Watts raved about him in his autobiography. He is also in the direct line of Dharma successors to the Buddha. I've had many Phil profs. He's by far the best. Only dullards who want answers spoonfed to them fail to appreciate his dialectical approach which forces them to think.

I first took a class with Pierre in 1967! I took every class plus 3 independent studies classes. I now have 2 MA's and a PhD; which I owe to his inspiration. I think of something I learned from him every day of my life. He is a master mental martial artist: don't spar unless you know how to take a fall! You will become better than you are now.

This guy is rediculous. You can't read his writing, he refuses to answer questions or help you, and constantly harasses anyone who attempts to answer the questions he yells out. I love philosophy, but this class made me want to scratch my eyes out. and there's no syllabus...he's completely rude and incomprehensible, and makes everyone feel stupid.

Ok, so the first day is a little odd. He didn't say who he was or anything about the class. Never has called role. He's ancient... but oddly fascinating. He's super funny and sarcastic. We only had 2 essays to write. One was for the final. He doesn't like giving C's (or lower), so if you don't get an A or B on the paper, he just has you redo it!

Class-Philosophy of Religion. Very bad teacher. No syllabus. Complete disregard for the student's comprehension of the material. Repeatedly makes fun of Christians and women. He teaches the way that he wants to, even if he ignores all questions. Offensive and thinks he's funny when he's not. Recommendation: Avoid his class if possible.

Had this teacher for Ethics. It's the midterm before you realize that you actually learned a little something. Offensive sometimes to both Catholics and women, and people from Brooklyn. Tries to get some points through but otherwise oblivious to everyone. Not a good teacher, very confusing. Don't take this class if you don't have to.

Though Grimes doesn't have a syllabus and has a unique teaching style, I believe he is a very brilliant and intelligent man. You really need to have a sense of humor to take his class and not be a person who takes things too offensively. Overall, he is funny as hell and if you hold out til the end, it is worth your time.

take this class if you want to ruin your gpa. he is vague about everything. when i asked him for help he just gave me all this responses that doesnt help. there is 2 essays for the mid-term and a final essay and you have to recite something to him. it is either you get an A or B OR F. no grades in between

Pierre is one of my favorite instructors because his unorthodox methods of teachings are uncompromisable and uniquely fitting for any philosophy class. Don't expect to get an easy A. He really wants EVERY student to achieve a higher power of learning, questioning and reasoning. I love taking his classes because you actually learn.

If you are a student who expects a teacher to help you every step of the way because you have been spoon feed you education instead of actually learning for yourself, you will not like this class. This class requires you to actually think for yourself and you will need the whole semester to do so. If you think then take the class.

Best teacher I've had in my college life. Questions your thinking, raises puzzles creates mysteries out of the ideas and original texts, brings you to see what you don't know what your are talking about, You either face, recognize that you don't know or you fight and become angry at him for bringing you to see what you didn't know.

It isn't a hard class to take if you actually think for yourself and listen to what he's telling you to do. I've taken several of his classes. All you have to do is read the book that he tells you to and participate in class and you'll get an A every time.

I think he is capable of being a great teacher although he has a few grave problems. His writing on the board is incomprehensible, he doesn't hear (or ignores) students sometimes. He never gave out a syllabus, I'm completely confused.

No syllabus. No "tests". Assigns sections in the books that don't exist. He says and I quote: "Don't think, I don't want to hear what you have to say, if I did I would study you not the books."

hes funny and confusing.isn't organized and ignores his students a lot (literally) if u ask him a question he acts as though he didn't see you. But it's actually pretty easy if u just listen to what he has to say. His lectures are boring, but it helps to take notes. We had 2 essays the whole semester passed the class with a "B". Take his class!

Great man to learn about philosophy from - No syllabus, attendance, or assignments, except for one essay at the end. Great for learning about the concept of defining morality. Only qualm is that he dodges questions and does not seem to be very helpful. It's an easy A, but what you gain is much more than that if you keep up.

Brilliant man with a vast knowledge in the ideas of thinking. Does not care for what you think, but rather HOW you think. The goal for his classes are to educate the students on their own beliefs. He does not want to confuse the student, but rather attempt to concrete your ideas with sound knowledge and simple truths.

I'm 40 y/o now and a very successful entrepreneur. I took all of Pierre's class in my undergrad many moons ago. I can honestly say that Pierre is a diamond in the rough and was the most valuable teacher I ever had, and I've learned from some of the best. The people with poor comments on here want to be robots. Don't be a robot, think for yourself.

Reading the comments have made me laugh. His classes are about more than the material. It is about developing your abiltiy to think for yourself. To not play the story in your head but read what is acutally written. To discuss a higher level of intelligence than college alone can give you. I took all of Pierres classes back when I was younger and he is the reason I have become so successful. So if you are looking for another grade to graduate so you can move on then maybe his classes are not for you. If you have plans to not only get your degreee but to use it as a platform to create change and pave the future of your industry then please take this class, it will be the best class you ever take.

Grimes is an easy A. This class had barely any work, I wrote one 5 page paper & I'm not even sure he read it. He doesn't give any clear outline as to what will be required of you. There were no quizzes, no tests, no reading material; he taught all by lecture. But, he does require you to expand your thinking- that I liked. Plus, he's pretty funny.

pierre grimes is a wonderful man, but his teaching style is no horrible. it seemed like he didn't wanna be here. don't buy the book, you won't even open it. he lectures every single class about random things. some lectures are more interesting than others. no tests, midterm, quizzes.. nothing. we had 1 paper due as final, easy A but very unclear.

Pierre Grimes is most true teacher of love and growth. He taught me how to read, write, think, and speak at the highest level compare to many men and teachers that I came accross of 58 years within my life time. My continue growth and success would not be possible without his commitment and dedication.

Wouldn't take again

Took one of his classes loooong ago think grunge and "Friends." Anyhoo. Ive since received my undergrad and graduate degrees. Still the worst class Ive taken. His lectures were like trying to sit through an insurance seminar when youre not in the insurance industry. Hes a nice enough guy, though. In a cult leader type of way.

Pierre Grimes tells the world and his students that every system thought is wrong except for his own. His life mission is to preach that his book is words of divine and If anyone disagrees, they have a problem and need to have their dreams explored by him so he can take a look at what those problems are. He encourages dogma and ignorance
