Truly an outstanding professor. Very knowledgeable and brilliant. He is fair and dedicated. I really admire him and his work. It was an honor being in both of his classes. I recommend him 100%. We need more professors like Destina. A true gentleman and professor.
One of the best teachers I've had. Seems tough at first but in the end he tries to look out for you if you try. Do the homeworks and you'll be fine. He makes a lot of jokes and is dedicated to teaching.
He is a french speaker, so he got an accent.But brilliant professor. he makes calcuus fun! If you stick with him and you do your homework, he'll take care of you even if you don't do too welll on exams.
not very clear when dealing with the harder topics such as the trig functions and formulas. he breezed through those, a week before the final... he has a bit of a sense of humor though he can be testy at times. if you work well figuring things out on your own, then he is great. but if you need more in depth instruction try a different professor.
I had prof. Destina for a remedial course years ago, and I just loved him. He is fun, very knowledgeable, and helpful. However, he does expect you to show up to class and do your homework: math is all about practice after all. Do it and you will be fine. I recommend him.
This professor is the best math professor for math 190. He explains the material really well and is very helpful to his students. Gives hw and goes over it too. Tests are more than fair. Guaranteed A. (if you work for it!!!)

His accent took time getting used to, but overall a nice professor. His class made me sleepy at times, but if you do all the homework and get decent grades on the quizzes/tests then he'll give you a good overall grade.
He is one of the best, if not the best math teachers at ccny. He is always willing to help as long as you are willing to seek it. He leaves no one behind, he explains every problem till everyone understands it. Tests are a little long but they are right from his quizes and HW. So just attend the class and you will get a B-A+ easily.
Thus professor is great . he explains the material very well.his test are extreemly fair.he gives partial credit when you show all your work his accent may be a problem for some but not for me.His class becomes a little boring when you understand the material but he continues to explain the work to other students he is very funny.Mangos and bananas
Never take this prof for calc 1 or 201, He is the worst teacher, he does not teach he goes over the material. You cannot learn a new subject with this guy. Strong accent and makes fun of ppl.

He definitely goes out of his way to explain things even if its something simple but you have to ask him. if you ask he definitely will. also, his tests are WAYYYYYYY harder than the final and his tests require that you combine your intellect and knowledge with what he has taught. honestly, hes not bad though he's one of the better math professors!

He is the best for maths.
Okay, the students that left him good comments obviously confused him with another professor. Destina is absolutely horrible. His accent is so heavy that you spend the whole entire class just trying to figure out what he is saying. Save yourself and trust my warning. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
he has a strong accent so its sometimes hard to understand what he's saying. he's a harsh grader and he takes his job seriously. don't take him if ur not willing to really study and put ur all into the class

Professor Destina is an excellent professor that sincerely cares for his students. Heis tests are difficult, but the final is about 100x easier than his tests, which are mainly for weeding out those that aren't willing to work. He is really funny, very nice, and is very articulate. destina is the worst cal. professor u can have at city college. he sees 98% of his class getting in tge 30-40s range on tests n yet he still gives hard tests some that dont really contain details that he went over in class. if u wanna fail take this guy. he likes having students he failed again in his class to make fun of them.
destina during the class seems to be the hardest professor. however if u work hard n he sees u working hard at the end ull see a good grade. i failed all his in-class tests n quizzes n on the final scored good n he gave me a B+. if u want good calculus n a R SERIOUS take him.
Although I can't blame my poor grade in this class on Professor Destina, I did not find him to be a helpful teacher. He only assigned us three or four homeworks the entire semester, and moved through material quickly, as if he was bored with it. If you don't have a natural inclination towards math, I would suggest trying a different professor.
I took destina during the summer, at first when i heard his name (and looking him up here) i thought oh crap I failed, but after he started teaching things slowly started looking up His tests are hard, but he teaches you the concepts instead of how to do the prob Also if he sees u working hard he'll cut you some slack, I recommend him if ur serious
The best professor I ever had. It was an easy A. He has a strong accent but after a couple of classes u'll get used to it. But if your not good at math I will suggest not to take him. He knows his stuffs and explains it very well. I absolutely love him.
Wow this guy is amazing! He is very strict and wants his students to learn. He cares a lot even though people think he doesnt. He is very funny and is passionate about math. I failed pre calc before and was bored of the topic once I took his class I saw math completely different! Even though I got a B I am proud to learn the material from him.
Not a good overall professor. He makes learning math very difficult, his exams are designed to trick you not HELP you. He doesn't do good job of teaching calculus!

Destina is a good professor but very difficult, the three exams he gives in class are extremely difficult compared to the final. Do not take him unless you have prior knowledge of Calculus, he teaches the topics like its common sense and he thinks you already know everything. His accent is a little rough that might be a problem for some people.
He knows how to explain topics, but he gives really hard exams. If you have a question, he'll scream the answer out. If you do not understand math well, I don't suggest you take him.Trust me.
His accent is very think so he is very difficult to understand. He is very disrespectful to students in class, personally experiencing this. His exams are extremely difficult and painstaking and does not allow enough time to complete (1 hour). He is difficult to talk to, dismissing your concerns. His grading system is ridiculous. He is one of the toughest professors in City College. He does not give partial credit on his exams but, he is one of the best professors out there. He is passionate about what he teaches and he will teach everything to the smallest detail needless to say, I got 100 on his final with a test average of a C before entering the final. You better work.
This is probably one of the best professors you will ever take. He explains everything and will not move on until you understand the topic. He is always willing to help in his office. I recommend you take him if you need to take 201.
His class is extremely hard and his exams are very difficult, however, he gets easy at the end and helps us with the grades.. I failed all of his exams and passed the final and he gave me a B so he knows that you know the stuff because youll be well prepared for the final.
Was an A student in math every year until I had this guy as my professor. Hard to understand, rushes through topics (yet is still behind other teachers), and gives no partial credit on exams. Regret taking his class.
I took him years ago for calculus 1, and i failed. even though now that i think back to it, it was my fault for taking the class for granted and never studying, he is still an extremely hard professor in both exams and understanding his accent. i'm an A student (now), acing calc2/calc3 etc but still.. destina is not easy. he's not bad just not easy
1. his accent is somewhat hard to understand sometimes. 2.You just pass a attendance sheet around, so you can just tell your friend to sign you in. 3.He gave hw and graded it, but it shouldnt be avg into grade since it wasnt in the syllabus. 4.The test consists of the SECTION he taught bet. tests. 5. Its math + college, DO NOT cram the night before
He is a good teacher. He is mean, but reasonable. Alot of bananas in class and wheels to Central Park. (you will know when you take his class). His exams are difficult. Give goods notes. Do not ask stupid question in class, because he will humiliate you.
This teacher is hard to understand with his accent. This would be ok, but when you ask a question he makes you feel awful about it. Constantly kept the class longer than the set time. Tests are infinitely harder than anything done in class. I've been an A student in math and got an F in his class. Be warned, taking this class will be a STRUGGLE.

Great professor despite previous comments. Willing to give partial credit/curve if the entire class is doing bad. Do your hw, pay attention in class, and study quiz Q's for the final and u'll be fine. He pretends to be mean to joke around w/ students but he is easy to work with. Got an A and learned a lot. Don't expect an A if u don't want to work.
Worst Math professor Ive ever had!! I was taking a math workshop with him, and did not learn anything at all. He wants you to learn it his way, and only his way. His accent is extremely hard to understand, and never mind trying to ask him a question. He will yell at you and ridicule you in front of the entire class. His exams are hard.
Nice guy even though he doesn't seem like it. Gives test reviews and answer key to all questions. Available during office hours and willing to help. However, he gives very hard questions on the tests and doesn't give much partial credits. you must study often, if not then won't pass.
He is not that bad as a professor.He tries to give you extra credit here and there to try to boost up your grade.I ended up getting a C even though my past exams I failed all of them.I either got lucky or he sees that you try and boosts up your grade.
This Professor will probably ruin you. He tries to teach the material but usually ends up confusing students even more. He gives lots of assignments, so don't expect an easy class. His tests have little to nothing to do with his exams and there is no curving for the math dept. If you're going to take this class, be prepared. he's not a good teacher
DESTINA, the best professor of all. If you love math, I'm sure you'll love him. He's simply the best CCNY math teacher. HIS teaching is outstanding and also he giveS student lots of time during his office hours.PROF. DESTINA IS THE BESTTT.
He's actually pretty funny, and he does help out a lot. He answers all your questions, but try not to "look so smart" because you'll go "banana". you'll know what I mean when you take his class. I had him for Calc 201 SEEK program. He helps you out a lot and you need to be sure to double check with Essential Calculus textbook, he follows the book.

He's a complex teacher. I don't like calculus and he didn't make it more enjoyable. Tests/ quizzes were hard to the point of frustration. I think he does care, as he occasionally went into a talk about his students being like his kids. But unless you're a pro at self studying (because honestly, lecture will not provide much help), try someone else.

About the test, it is little bit tough but not too hard. Just practice and you will be fine
He is a hard professor. He has a heavy accent so you have to try hard to understand him. The quizzes are important do not miss them they will mess up your grade. Do the webassign, go to lecture, go to his office hours and pray. You'll do fine.

Terrible Teacher. You cant understand him at all with his thick accent. Screams for the whole lesson and will scream in your face. Do not take his class in the morning as you will die from a combination of a headache and boredom. Cant teach and sometimes assigns over 40 problems a night for home work. Destina is an outstanding professor. He teaches calculus like he invented it. I will take him any time, any day. He literally begs you to come to his office for help if you're having problems. There is a quiz almost every week. Midterms are hard but you will do well if you sit your butts down and study.
10 quizzes worth 10%. two mid-terms which are hard but gives a review sheet which is almost like it. Always available during office hours & willing to help. Attendance is mandatory. Great teacher by all standards. if u lazy & expect an easy A ,don't take him. Curves on exam sometimes. His techniques are the easiest to remember DESTINA IS THE BEST!
Destina was very helpful, he knows his stuff and will do everything to ensure you passed, plus if you aren't doing too well, pass the final and he'll pass you. Really prepares you for the final. Lots of webassign, which i hate but hes always open to extensions. Don't be Banana !
He's a good professor. Sometimes it is difficult to understand him, but if you sit in the front you should be fine. He gives useful worksheets that really does help. He is always in his room during office hours which is where I asked help when something was unclear. Homework is done online; the HW were helpful but frustrating at times.
WORST MATH PROFESSOR I EVER HAD. he gives so much work to do and he doesn't help at all. If you have a question to ask he'll lash at you and embarrass you in front of everybody. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. His tests are the most difficult in the department. He assigned long online and text book homework. Many students failed because there is no review and tests are worth 80% of your grade. He yells at students often and makes the environment uncomfortable. If you take him, be prepared!
don't ask questions in his class, because he can be mean about it. However, don't let that bother you, be persistent and go to office hours. also, his class isn't a walk in the park, and you need to put in extra work outside of class.

Most passionate man I've ever met. Absolutely brilliant. This class is hard but if you put in the work and participate he will notice . He is intimidating but just be persistent. If you like fast-paced math teachers he is your guy if you need someone who is extremely thorough then he isn't for you. He is very funny he yells a lot but its all jokes.
Destina is a very passionate teacher, he loves to teach math and he can get you interested in it. That's about it. Other than that he is a harsh grader and can take him days to teach a one day lesson. He gives homework triweekly and yet somehow you end up doing homework during finals week when class is over (Mandatory). Very hard grader as well.

Avoid taking him. He's a tough grader and won't listen to students. There is no curve on test nor does he drop any. This semester he didn't even finish teaching the curriculum and had assigned homework past the semester end. The class is doable but only if you put it in all the work. As for his lectures, he just does problems from the textbook.
It was super hard, DO YOUR HOME WORK, its so much!! HE GIVES A TON OF HOMEWORK BUT test are almost identical to the hw questions. Also dont need textbook but need online access code. You have lots of test maybe 5-6 including midterm and final.

He gives WebAssign homework worth 10%, his own written homework worth 10%, 3 in class tests total of 40%, a department final worth 40%. Thick accent and lectures can get boring, miss a few minutes and you'll be completely lost. He says short stories of his life in lecture. Class went from 32 people down to a mere 10 people. Better to self teach.
Professor Destina is really good. He tried to explain everything to you during the entire semester. If you forgot some knowledge from the Math 195 (Pre-Calculus), he will review them. Anyway, you should prepare your test everyday which you will get high grade in your transcript. No mater what, he is a tough grader. Do you HW and understand them.
Prof. Destina does not curve, and his tests are harder than other professors. However, his class examples and ONLINE examples are the most helpful. Do all of the hw with his notes and you will do fine.

He really is tough grader! On the exam, you get 10 question and each worth 10 point. It is impossible to get 90 from his exams. 20% is WebAssign and pop quizzes, 40% 2 exams(not gonna drop), and 40% final. He is the nice man overall.
Half of the students in my class dropped the class after the second exam, honestly he is such a hard grader and expects you to know things the second he teaches them.

Overall nice person, however I would not recommend taking Destina. His style of teaching is very difficult to learn from and his response to questions can be very aggressive. A lot of students were afraid to ask questions during lecture. He uses web assign for hw but the assignments do not coordinate with the topics he's teaching that week. Don't!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! He is almost impossible to understand, the homework he gives you aren't in sync with the quizzes, test, etc. He will speed through five different formulas, and literately yell at you for asking a question.
Do not take this guy. He has such a weird character. In class, he is a total beephole! I made the mistake of asking him a question about something once. Never did i EVER again! He makes fun off the student and does not care about what you understand or not. HOWEVER, if you go him during his office hours, he tries to teach you properly.

This professor is not bad, but not one of the best either. He likes showing proof to mostly everything which takes most of the class time, because of this he only gets to go over two problems. He only gave 2 tests and the final. He also gives quizzes and homework, but only like 1 or 2 questions for the quizzes and like 8 homeworks.
He is very enthusiastic in teaching. However, he spends lots of time on writing stuffs that are on the textbook. His homework ( 10 and very short ) is enough for the class exam but i don't think it's enough for the final. You will have to self-practice more.
He is a really good teacher. You can tell he knows his stuff, he reminds you that there are tutoring available. I also noticed he gives you more points on exams than you deserve. He cares, it's the students that don't care. The students are also scared of him because of his personality. I would take him again.
His way of teaching is so good. If a student has a hard time understanding a concept, he will try to explain constantly just so that everyone is well prepared for his tests. He will prepare you so well that the final will be very easy. Make sure you know the graphs of each function.

Do not get me wrong, Destina is a very caring person and he is funny. However, some jokes humiliate some students. However, I did not enjoy him as a professor. He is not clear in his explanations and his accent makes it very hard to understand him. He is a tough grader, you really have to work for your grade.
I was a bit scared to take his class because most of the reviews were bad. But hes a very good professor. I took his class in the summer and there was a lot of quiz every other day. If you dont understand something in class just ask, he will stop and explain it, if you still dont understand go to his office. Also, gives chances to make up test.

He's easily the worst professor I've ever seen, he teaches the material so poorly and hardly pays any attention to whether or not students understand the material. He left our class with a substitute for the last few weeks of the semester, and he had to practically teach us the entire course again because no one knew what they were doing.
He does not care about if you passing or not. He does not curve test. He got a lot of accent. Im really good at math and just because of the way he teaches I did poor this time for the first time in my life I got a C+ in math.
Seriously one of the worst, if not the worst professor I've had ever. Notice that I'm giving a review based on how he teaches, rather than what he knows. I'm sure that he knows the stuff, but he simply can't explain it efficiently. When asked, he gets irritated and cocky. He's quite unorganized too. Study in groups to make it through his class.
