she's a big help. Her class is hard but if you stick to what she tells you to, review the materials, and read the chapters in the book, you'll have a fine time!
Ms.Mata is a great teacher. She's strick but if you come to class and review everything you'll do fine. Maker sure you do the homework assignments at the end of the semester you'll be thankful you did.
She is very intimidating and not friendly. Degrades students who don't have"A's".Her class enviroment is a tense one because she never smiles. Also she isn't very presentable. Teacher locks the door if ur late as if you were in high school. BAD

She is an awesome teacher. I am not too good at math, I hate math, but she made it clear and easy. Not a lot of teachers are able to do that. She is hard, but all teachers in college will be somewhat hard. She is pretty understanding, but most of the studying rests on you. I say take her, she helps a lot and knows what she is doing. taker her!
She is a NAZI! She doesn't know how to teach, that is why I would never call her a teacher. She takes points off if you have the wrong paper size and rule. If you're late just one min. It's an absent. If you talk or ask your class mate next to you a question she takes points off. She's mean. She shouldn't be teaching at all!! She needs to be fired!
I passed easily,but that's cause I was so familiar w/math from H.S.She does seem very pompus and arogant.Super anal about any speaking in class,even if it's to whisper a ? to a classmate.If u did bad on assessment test like I did and do know this subject well take her.I'm glad I had her for 1/2 the class cause of maternity leave.

WHAT A ****! She was so strict with math set up that she forgets about the solution. Who cares how I set it up as long as I am getting the correct answer. She is the worst math teacher I ever had and she dresses like a dumpy mother.

this teacher is extremely negative, she will drop you from class if you get two censecutive bad grades on either a test or quiz.she is very unhappy and admits it, she will drop you even if the semester is almost over,she dropped me with just three weeks left of class.becareful, dont take her,very discouraging,unhappy!!

Mrs. Mata is not easy, but she was the only teacher that was able to teach me math. I highly recomend her. The most difficult part of the class was the word problems. Study and turn in your homework!!!
Mrs. Mata needs a make-over it's true... But, other than that she teaches great! She explains everything so clearly. Goes over every single thing.. I learned alot in her class all my math foundations... I recommend her class... Just do all the hw and pay attention in lectures and you will do fine...
There are two things that you will notice in this class and not the fact that she needs a makeover but.... 1. She DOES teach good, and goes over what is to be expected in the tests. 2. She uses some nasty and bad remarks toward those "F" students other than from the "A" students. She kind of had me feeling BAD all semester long!!!!
She can be a little boring at times but all in all she is a great teacher. She is very detailed and explains everything nice and clear so that the average and below average student understands. She is easy. I'd recommend her anytime. =)
SHE COULD BE MEAN AT TIMES. SHE IS VERY HELPFUL,EXPLAINS EVERYTHING IN DETAIL.INORDER TO GET A GOOD GRADE IN HER CLASS YOU NEED TO HAVE GOOD ATTENDANCE AND YOU NEED TO DO GOO IN TESTS AND DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK. BORING AT TIMES...NOT AN EASY CLASS.

This teacher is really good. She explains everything very well. I really recommend her because she is not hard but yet you get to understand the material.
I absolutely hate math but when I joined Mata's class I felt very confident! She teaches her class as if nobody knows what they're doing which is great because that makes her lessons clear. She is willing to help at all times and explains all her grades clearly. I wish I can take her again!

She explains everything crystal clear. I don't know why people say she's intimidating and cruel, she was pretty nice, and I kept an A throughout the semester. Just do your HW, and you'll not only pass the class, you'll understand the quizzes she gives you.
I go to school for an education, not to critic my instructors' fashion sense. I enjoyed Mata's class. She gives the homework before-hand, making it easy to work at your own pace. Also, there was never a time when she was rude to F students; I didn't even know who had an F. She is also very helpful if you ask questions.

I took the summer class. H/W is a signed but not collected but due it so you will know how 2 do the work. Go 2 the math tutor. Make sure you spend a lot of time with math so u will learn & pass the class. Very helpful. Take her. Nice person. The final was multiple choice.
Prof. Mata is an amazing teacher for Math 40. I hated math, now I love it after her class. She is very clear, organized and focused. Tests are in line with homework. You will get a great foundation for future classes at higher levels. I would take her for Math 60 if she were available.
Lots of h/w that?s does count 4 very little of points if that?s, grades very hard, if u miss 1 little thing u lose a lot of points
She is very strict. Hw has to be done a specific way, and tests are not easy at all. She will take any little point away even if you have the correct answer already. Only take her class if you are really committed to dedicating all your time on just math.

She is EXTREMELY Clear, Organized and a great teacher.If you ask a question she WILL answer to the best of her ability. She also ties what you learn in class to what you will see in future math classes. Her grading is a bit tough but she's whiling to help at all times. She may talk a little fast for some but speaks clear and to the point.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT take this teacher for Math 140. She is HORRIBLE!!!! We started with 45 students in the class & are now down to 16.
She misses a lot of classes and does not care out her students and appears to hate her job.
it is EXTRMELY difficult to pass her exams with a good grade, diducts points for everything. Mocks her students when she is asked a question. She likes to pretend she knows everything. I will NOT RECOMEND this class for anyone not even if you like math!!!!
I would not recommend this teacher to anyone I know. She locks the door, If you are running a little late on test days. She uses language terms people have never heard of. It is as if she wants peole to fail.
I find it hard to believe that this professor is still allowed to teach. She goes out of her way to make her students miserable. It's almost as if she wants her students to fail. Exams are impossible, even after homework, and nothing this teacher does is helpful. She's moody, snobby, and really doesn't belong at Cerritos. Do not take her!
Had her for a summer class, ALOT of hw given on w/sheet for the whole semester to work on own pace. She EXPLAINS every LITTLE detail...so that is WHY she takes minor points away. STUDY NOTES AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE METHOD AND STYLE . VERY helpful, yes moody but always willing to answer questions. Great Teacher.GREAT pace. Absolutely helpful.
Yes, she over explains. She was a good teacher. It seemed as though she looked for the smallest things to take points off for. In a way, that was good to help prepare you for the next level. I got a B Math 40 (summer) A Math 60 and B Math 80 & it started with her. I understood the importance of being there, paying attention and asking questions
On-line Math class. What a joke. it is an independent study course. She will tell you that she offers NO INSTRUCTION. So if you are looking for an on-line course, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is a horrible instructor as she offers NO instruction. So I hope you like to teach yourself. ANd don't waste your money for the access code you don't need.
Very structured, ensures you understand methods. Point grader so even if you make mistake there is a possibility to collect points. Cool because you can listen to music or do other homework during her class time as long as your not disruptive. Odd to look at though cause she wears what looks like PJs to every class, apparently huge sports fan. Learned a ton, recommend to everyone, will definitely prepare you for 60 on good footing!!

Professor takes attendance to an extreme. She closed the door on my face when I arrived at the exact time that I suppose be there by. She explains very good,but I dont recommend her. Seems as tho she got picked on in HS that's why she takes it out on students now that she has control over them. I didn't like her teaching method. DON'T TAKE HER!!
Not a good teacher, i would definitly NEVER recommend her to a friend. she's extremly picky about her work, you can have 9 out of 10 problems with the right answer & still get an "F" on that quiz for nonsense. She's very strict about attendance, she will slam the door on your face literally! If you can avoid taking her that would be your best bet.
Whatever good comments that are on here are probably written by the instructor. Many students dislike the instructor for many reasons, shes strict about attendance, she's very selective on grading, she's rude, and no matter how hard you try if its not what she's looking for she'll mark you down. Oh and make sure you put a (parenthesis) on EVERYTHIN
Every bad comment you have read about this teacher is so true. I was late one time to class n was dropped before the day was over.I tried to re-enter the class and she refused to sign my slip. Aviod her as a teacher at all cost!
Let me just say that math is not my best subject.In my opinion Mata is one of the best math teachers I have taken in the last decade. She explains well, is very organized and has great notes. If you like structure she is it!
I HATE MATH WITH A PASSION!!!! but mrs mata helped me soo much!! with her teaching i understood && learned ALOT of new tricks/shortcuts. got a c cuz i didnt studyenoug /got nervous for tests && quizes. but forsure take her!!
She's actually NOT a bad teacher. If you show her respect, she'll return it. She DOES explain things very well. The thing about her class is she's very very strict. She takes attendence to heart. The way to get a grade in her class is to do quizes which she'll grade down to the positions of the numbers(seriously). She's not easy.
Ms. Mata is not a hard teacher. Strict about attendance,yes! I have an A+ in her class and not once did I use a text book. Go to every class meeting, copy the notes,and study for quizes you should do fine.
I DON'T RECOMMAND THIS TEACHER. She has no patience for students that struggle in the class. She contradict herself a lot. She makes you feel like nothing when you don't reach her high standards of teaching.
I took her class in the summer and drop it in the second week. She is unfair dropping students the first day even if they were late 5 minutes just to add her own previous students. She made hate math and discouraged me now I doubting everything I do. I am struggling because of her and need to find the love for math again.
She is a GREAT Teacher!! She is strict on her students being on time and how much effort they put in. She teaches very clear and its easy to understand her lectures. She just wants her students to succeed.

She is the worst math teacher I have ever taken. It should be classified as "on line" class because she rushes through 1 or two problems and then you are on your own. She says go to the tutor if we need help. She never reviews before a test and instead rushes on to a new "lecture". She teaches math as if it were history. No hands on at all.
Honestly all these people who have negative comments its because they dont want to try &actually do math she explains it just how it is if not even better shows you the easier ways to do math& she tells you if you dont expect to do 20 hours a week to pound out math what do you expect&she suggets the tutoring center because that place is awesome!!
She is a horrible instructor. She has long instructions for everything and makes things more complicated than they are. She belittled me thru email when i had a question. Not helpful whatsoever when you need it, basically makes you feel dumb. Very unorganized even tho she seems to be. DO NOT TAKE HER. IM SURPRISED SHE STILL TEACHES.

I have had some bad professors in my life time. This professor is by far the worst I have ever taken. I could understand if a teacher is a bit strict but this teacher could care less if she fails a student. I Would not recommend this professor even to my worst enemy.
alot of people don't really like her, but she's a really good teacher. She was nice to me, I'm not sure about other people though. She gets irritated a little but just pay attention and you'll pass no problem.

The best math teacher ever. I wish I had her for all my math classes. Don't miss class or she'll drop you. Her teaching method is amazing. She explains every step crystal clear. Take good notes, come to class, and do put in the 20 hours of study time and you'll have no problems passing her class. I highly recommend her if you want to learn.

I was scared taking her because of the reviews, but i ended up liking her she's the best math teacher. If she teaches all the math levels i would get her. She's the best.
I dont understand why such bad reviews. She is a great instructor and also aveteran faculty member at cerritos.. Very clear on what needs, provides link free TEXTBOOK! . she is part of the math department and extremely knowledgeable. Always offering to help, from finding your registration date FOR next semester to advising you on next math class
I really enjoyed this professor .. great lectures and efficient . Easy class just do homework and ay attention . I got a C only because I didn't do homework but really easy class
she's really helpful, assigns extra credit, very clear too, only problem is that she shows up late occasionally, definitely would recommend to a friend.
She's a wonderful Professor, and does well explaining everything to a T. I took her last semester for Math 40 at 7 am and this semester for Math 60 at 7 am as well, but she is incredibly late and cancel last minute. She has little ones but sometimes we'll get there and we wont get her email until 15 minutes goes by. Her class is an easy A so yeah.
Her lectures are really slow, which can get boring at times. But she teaches slow so that you will understand the material. Exams are easy if you come to class and do your hw! The only thing I didn't like was that it was mandatory to attend a workshop of your choice. But if you do more than one the rest are extra credit!
Worst professor ever! The class was pretty much self-taught as there were no lectures or any supplementary learning materialseverything was online. She would often cancel class and attendance wasnt mandatory. I learned very little from this class. Now I am struggling with Math 80 because the fundamentals of Math 60 were poorly taught! Avoid her!
Ms. Mata is an AMAZING teacher, she's always willing to help students who are struggling with their math. she's very laid back and doesn't leave a lot of work in my opinion. i recommend you take this teacher! :)
I'm a strong believer that learning depends on the student. She does use my math lab which is an online course and everything is self taught. If you're not able to learn on your own avoid her class but if can manage yourself go ahead. I learned a lot and plus she's really nice and always there to help.
I am not kidding when I say I have never successed at math in my life. My grade in math has ranged from C to F. For the first time I have an A & I'm honestly amazed. She is so understanding, helpful, and tries her best to accomodate all students. Best math teacher I have ever had in my entire life. I finally get it.
If you dont know or forgot your multiplication or division make sure you refresh your memory. Great teacher, can come off as rude. Listen, take note, show up to class and on time. I did the homework, not graded, but you have to practice in Math if you dont practice you dont do well on your exam. The reason I passed was because I would practice.
All the homework is online and the tests are the same as the ones online.
Would never take again. I took this class back in spring 2017 and out of all the professors I have had, she is the absolute worst so far. She did not care about teaching the subject at all. She hardly attended the class and when she did, she would just sit at her desk, not teach, and ignore us when we needed help. She just told us to get tutoring.
For me, im having a great experience with her. Shes by far the most detailed and most professional math prof Ive ever had. She does give tons of homeworks but those will help in tests! My current standing for her class is A, hopefully I finish with the same letter grade. Id recommend taking her Math 40 class because its just so well explained.
