Do not take him. Only reason he got a 1 for helpfulness is there is no 0!!!!!!!!
Ping is the best prof. He is smart, funny, and HELPFUL. Just go to his office.

Not bad, but hard to understand.

super prof...funny...helpful...good tests
knows how to teach...explains and gives ex.s
Very nice and helpful. Obviously and extremely intelligent man.

His english sucks. He's very smart, but he can't teach.
he is very helpful if you go to his office..his english you get used to very quickly
The man is extremely intellegent yet has a great sense of humor. Never met someone that smart and that funny. He even laughed along with me once when I made fun of the way he said something. If you listen to him and go to class, you'll know calculus.
Didn't learn a thing from this dingbat...I feel stupider for having listened to him. Ignore what he says and do the book yourself.
A great prof! Intelligent, funny, cares about his students. Lots of examples and fair tests. Still one of my favorite teachers

here's a formuler...here's the answer...as you can see, this is clearly correct. ok, next chapter. horrible professor, smart man, bad teacher.

Bad prof. Easy material but the way he teaches is very confusing.
I liked Ping as a prof! He was a pretty good teacher with an excellent sense of humor, which is always a bonus to have in a prof! Weekly tests are sketchy, but you end up knowing exactly what will be on future exams.
HE is a very funny and helpful prof. Can be a little overexpectant, but overall he is really good. He makes you not want to dissapoint him.
Wikid prof. His students tend to understand things better then one taking n e other proff. He knows his stuff and after a year with him, you will too!
Hard to understand at sometimes. Weekly quizes were fair. Exams almost exactly like questions that were on the quizes. Likes to joke around. Tends to pick a few students from each class and picks on them so beware of sitting in the front row.
awesome prof, if you learn math in an abstract way. those who like broken-down steps might have troubles, if so take apaloo. but he is very funny, teases students alot, brilliant man, and he marks waaaay easier than other math profs!
Ping is a very personable guy and he likes to joke around with his class which makes things fun. He goes through things incredibly fast and with his accent its hard to understand everything because things are only explained once.
A little hard to understand sometimes but always willing to answer questions and to give help, out of class
He's halarious. He was my only teacher besides Buckland-Nicks that had a sense of humor. Good Guy.
I love Ping !!! All of his tests are from class, so if you go to class, you'll find all of his quizzes pretty easy. If you go to class, he makes a point of helping you.
funny man..... liked the course.... english not the greatest, but understandable.... terrible writing (but what math teacher has good writing??) overall goodness associated w/ this prof....
ping is the man. loves sport and math. greatest prof outside of class, i've continued to talk to him all thru university even tho i only took one class with him.
Little confusing in class-knows his stuff though. Quizzes are exactly like examples in class. Not the best at explaining. Always excited to be teaching though.
I liked him until he told me I was stupid.
p wang is the man. best 111/112 teacher
Ping Wang is a great guy. He told our class it was great and we know how to learn. You go to class and do work in it, helping you understand and learn the problems better. The quizzes are fairly simple. Jokes around, drawings are hilarious. Told our class he really enjoyed having us and we are probabyl the best class he's had. Definately take him!
best calc teacher out of them all
Great guy. If considering taking first year calculus deffinetly go with pwang. Very helpful on one on one. Quizzes are fair. Redo all assignments for final exams.
Ping is the bomb

Sure, that Newton guy got the credit for Calculus, but trust me PWang is much better. He always has a smile on his face in lecture, and I did too thanks to his brilliant humor. He works through examples clearly and fields questions, making sure everyone knows whats going on. I really look forward to taking another course from him.
I am the guy loves his course. It is not a easy course, but he made it very interesting. But you do need study hard to get a good mark.
Goes at a good pace, explains things well. Can sometimes be a little insulting to students but it's just his sense of humor. Lots of examples from the book help with assignments.
PDubs is a great prof. Explains things well to people who understand principles of math. Follows a lot of the work out of the book. Missing one class will make you fall behind. Quizzes are directly from assignments on his site, (always the even numbers) and are always returned quickly. The Final was difficult, 20% of work from last 3 days of class.
Mostly discards lecturing and theory in favour of having the class work problems and then go over them - the best way to learn. Stellar calculus prof and person.
I found the course pretty confusing because it was all doing problems and there were no lectures and logical progression through the topics. It was kind of fun because he is funny, and he is also helpful to make sure you understand the problems.
Worst professor I've had at StFX. Course material on website is outdated by years. Hard to understand. Provides NO help. When asked for additional help, he often replies to your emails late (right before the final exam) emails don't even make sense. If your in business, I would avoid this professor.
I've been through Calculus with him and I knew what to expect, but typically business students find him difficult. Attendance is key, just go and he'll hand you 50% of questions from the exam/midterms. The other 50% is pretty much from the labs. People fail this class because he expects you to DO work, which business students are always ready for.
Terrible prof. I pay thousands of dollars for teaching not having my head shoved in a textbook each class. Poor explainations, useless help, never mentioned class project and expected everyone to remember it, lame jokes, difficult to understand. Worst math teacher I ever had, possibly worst teacher ever overall. Avoid this prof if you can.
If you attend all classes and pay attention, you will easily ace the class. All you need to do is follow the examples done in class and there will be similar, if not the same ones, on your midterm/final. Do labs beforehand and go see him if you have trouble. Don't be intimidated by him!
Pretty awesome prof. Clear explanations (often clearer than the textbook), helpful in class. Spent a lot of time making fun of the business students which I appreciated. Piece of cake course if you've taken Math 11 and don't spend every class staring at your cell phone.
I hated this class. The final exam was brutal. In class Some of his examples were unclear, and he was very intimidating. Word of advice, don't sit where he can see your work, or he'll call you out infront of the class if you do it wrong. Last bit of advice: pick a different professor for calculus other then Ping.
I'm a business student and I have taken his math 205 and math 277 last semester, the results are all above 90, and I think this because I'm following his way. So my suggestion is: taking NOTES at every class and especially pay attention to the EXAMPLES he give at class, because this is ALLLLL the test questions come from!!!
This is my 4th class with the guy, (Calc 1/2, Business math) so I knew what to expect. Go to class, listen to examples and do his assignments. Chances are, you'll see the exact same questions on the midterms/final. Always avaible to talk to in his office and always willing to lend a hand. Great prof with a good sense of humor.
Very good at teaching, despite is strong accent. His class is the kind you do AWESOME at if you go to class, but will not do good at all if you skip class. If you take him you will do great, provided that you go to class. Recommended.
Didn't provide enough examples and often material found on the mid-terms and finals were not something reviewed in class. Nice guy, not a good prof.
Easy course if you attend, Ping gives you all of the questions which he uses on the midterms and exam in the labs and in class. Tends to pick favorites and if you're not a favorite it can be difficult to talk to him. He's a smart guy and teaches well, but doesn't understand that some people learn differently.
This is a shame course to take for all business students that really care about getting decent grades. This course with destroy your average. Both teachers are useless and the course has zero structure. All you do is random questions in class and he doesn't even provide you with any sheets on how to do questions. Find practice tests anyway you can
Great Prof, really wants the students to do well, found him extremely helpful and his analogies are hilarious!
He's a great guy and he makes you laugh. It makes Calculus a bit easier. A little hard to understand though through his accent.
Calculus is not an easy course to do well in, but Ping is more than willing to help out students who come to him looking for assistance. Many of his examples show up again on quizzes and exams, and overall he is a good prof who cares about his students.
He is a great prof who gives examples that are very similar to exam questions. He's a little hard to understand, but other than that he's a reasonable guy who's always ready to help!
My favourite prof at St FX. Really nice guy who's always willing to help, since calculus is a tough course he bases his lectures with a lot of examples. A lot of those examples will be on the midterm or something very close. If you're ever having trouble in the class go see him! Take it from a math major!
Such a funny prof. Thick accent but a few, "wait whats?" will clarify. He is very approachable and makes me want to attend his classes. Great guy, really knows his math.
He moves super fast in class. If you ask a question he will make fun of you for it instead of helping. He is very smart but not willing to share his time and knowledge
Ping is very nice and funny but he thinks you took calculus in grade 3 so he doesn't explain things very well.
Ping Wang can be hated by some, and loved by others. GO TO CLASS. Ping loves attendance and participation and if you get to know him he will give you lots of help in first year math courses. If you don't go to class, he has little sympathy for you when you need a certain mark.
He's absolutely hilarious, and makes class interesting for sure. He does move quickly through the material, but show up to class, and especially to the lab assignments, and you can definitely get an A. Most students don't look at the practice questions on Moodle, but they're basically what the midterm & final are made up of. Great guy, total sav
Ping is and will always be my absolute favourite prof I have ever had. Although many would probably disagree with me he really is a great teacher. He teaches math by examples on the board instead of power points so there is no notes online but it only makes you understand the class more. "if you passed grade 2, you can pass this class" -Ping
Ping Wang is smart, but not very helpful. He can make you feel very dumb for asking questions.
His strong accent makes him hard to understand. He makes you feel stupid when you ask questions in class. The material was very heavy, and I felt like I had no one to go to for help because he wouldn't answer "stupid questions".
Was not accessible outside of class time, anyone who struggles in math to begin with will have to teach themselves the entire course and most of our marks are based on the exam and midterm. Being bad at testing is something he doesn't care about. He is a nice person but he is not a good prof
As I remember it, Ping Wang's calculus class was my first class on my first day at StFX back in 1998. He was an excellent prof and a super-nice and very funny guy. I came in with a decent calculus background already, but I thought he did a pretty good job of explaining everything beyond what I already knew.
Best professor have ever attended his class.
Ping is a super funny and caring guy, if you show up to all of his classes and participate during he will be more than willing to help you out. People find him cold and not approachable but that's just his sense of humor if you do the work and look at the practice questions on Moodle outside of class you should be fine.
Good knowledgeable prof, uses book way too much. He mostly does questions from the book during lecture as the way he teaches and lets you do your own thing in tutorial. Messy writing on the white board and doesnt explain things the best. Hes funny something though.
Ping is a unique guy. expects a lot from first year students and expects you to work for it. StFx is known for having professors who mark easy and baby their students. Ping is not this teaches like any large university prof would. Very hard Midterm and exam. comes off as a little crazy, if you get to know him your mark will be better go to office
Don't miss any classes because you will fall behind so fast. He marks as if all or nothing, doesn't give part marks. All course content learned in class very hard to access extra review outside of class. Provides lots of office hours. Expects a lot and isn't afraid to tell you if you don't know what you're doing, a very blunt prof.
honest, knowledgeable and wants students to particpate in class. love this guy
Ping has gotten more careless since some of these reviews were written. He teaches by example, yes, but ONLY by example. If you arent in class to get his rushed examples written down, good luck. Any notes posted are just scribbles that are often unfinished and incorrect. He has lots of office hours but is intimidating to approach as he is blunt.
Ping has super messy and small writing when doing maybe 2 examples per section on the whiteboard. If you're not in the first 4 rows you might as well not be there because you won't be able to see anything. weekly quizzes are really hard and he can raise his voice sometimes. isn't much help for practice doesn't post notes or questions with answers.
The previous reviews on Dr Wang were my reason for taking his class, which was a HUGE mistake. He is the worst prof that I have ever had. I agree that his handwriting is impossible to read and he hardly provides any help during his lectures, only examples. I've always loved math and excelled in it, but couldn't succeed in 105 w/out a tutor. AVOID!
Ping Wang is a nice man, but not a good professor. His lectures are very difficult to understand. Unless you sit in the front row, you can't read/understand his writing or hear him. He makes a lot of mistakes in class, leading to a lot of confusion. He has weekly quizzes and weekly excel assignments. It is very hard to do good in his class.
His online classes are horrible. He may have a lot of knowledge himself but he's not clear with explanations, doesn't even know how to properly construct solutions (no clear answer). He doesn't explain anything clearly and won't post any sort of notes at all until after quizzes. Not good at navigating the online learning platform at all.
Ping wang is not a good professor for business mathematics , he often made mistakes when explaining material and it was not presented in an organized manner. He often came across as condesending when asking questions and would make you feel as though your question was stupid to ask.
If you go to class and ask questions when you don't understand, it is an extremely easy class. Ping is a great guy who wants his hard working students to succeed, but has no problem passing lazy students with 50s. He is very resourceful and a great prof!
Before I get into specifics, I believe that he's honestly a nice guy deep down. But in class, he doesn't listen to you and will make you feel embarrassed if you ask a question or if you answer his question wrong. He is a messy writer, he rushes the material, he doesn't speak well and he words questions weirdly on quizzes/midterms/finals. Good luck
Overall Ping is a great guy that probably isn't for everyone. He is brutally honest and has a good sense of humor which gives keeps lectures entertaining. I found that he could fly through material a little too quickly at some points and would call students out for not paying attention/asking stupid questions, which I honestly thought was comical.
A lot of people don't like him but that's just because they are bad at math. He is very blunt and will tell you if you do something wrong or ask a dumb question. He gives me a reason to wake up in the morning and as long as you pay attention in class and do the practice questions you will have no problems.
