I actually took her class at LACC. But reading all the miffed comments about Prof. Rooney makes me come to the conclusion that the majority of students are just incompetent scrogs who can't be bothered to show up to class and do the required work. If you're a dedicated student who wants to actually learn summat, take her class.

I liked her, she was upbeat and we got days off when her kids were sick. You have to read, but that's English for you. Its an argument class and you learn how to explain yourself because she has you do a first draft and she explains why it should be expanded. Most of it is opinion anyway.

Ur crazy. I did not think I would like a book written 150 years ago, but she made me love it; She also spent almost two hours with me on my personal statement for UCLA, and I'm going this fall. She was hard, but I feel like I wrote papers I wold never have been able to write before her class.

Tough grader. Smart. You may not get an A but you'll learn more in her class than you would in three classes combined. A LOT of reading: 9 plays,10+ short stories,some essays,excerpts from Chaucer, City of Ladies, Frankenstein. 3+ in-class essays, 3 research papers with tight deadlines. Be on your game if you want to get the most out of this class.

i loved this class and i hate english classes. It was a lot to handle at first but you get used to her way of teaching. I LOVED how it wasn't the traditional structured class, really allowed me to enjoy a class i was despising. mainly discussions but when it comes to the research paper she was very helpful and met with you to go over everything!!

Underrated. Very passionate about her field of study. Understands that not everyone is Mark Twain and grades based on effort and output. Gets even the backroom slackers out of their slumps and involved in the class discussions. Has high level of vocabulary but there is nothing that she wont clarify. An exceptional professor by far.

If you ask questions or if u need clarification she is always their for you. She hates it when people do not show up to class or if they are late. If you do all the assignments & pay attention then this class will be super easy. I recommend!

I had her for Winter Session and she was one of the greatest professors I have had at GCC. Her essays are tough, not because they are hard but because she demands your best work every time. Lots of reading, but all are applicable and culturally relevant. I would definitely recommend to any English student looking to learn and not afraid to work.

Rooney is a motivated teacher who gives interesting reading material. She gave us chances to make us essays and no quizzes but she does assign a lot in a short amount of time. There was class discussions so make sure to read! The class is never boring i highly recommend if your willing to try to improve as a writer.

Im not gonna lie: this was a hard class but now feel ready for college work. She's all evidence evidence evidence. Do not give her opinion without it! And do the reading. I got a A because I got a lot of feedback on my essays and I used it. A lot of reading. A lot of notes on my papers. Would take again.

My writing improved. Essays and research paper count for a lot of the grade. so does participation/Discussion. Readings are interesting and not too hard. Most important, she listens when you ask for an extension. If you have a reason for needing extra time she will give it to you, but you have to just talk to her.

She give s a LOT of feedback and will always meet you in Zoom outside of regular office hours. My analysis and writing definitely improved. Assignments are clear. She makes you write your own research question based on the books you read in class, so be ready and be looking at them with that in mind.
