Taught International politics and spoke very negatively about the U.S. regularly and was derrogatory towards myself and other students. Very unorganized and missed class frequently due to planned trips and unplanned events without notifying the class.
Agbese is an extremely intelligent and informed professor. His tests are difficult but he gives great study guides and is always willing to help. He has a great sense of humor also!
agbese is a fun teacher.you can tell he loves his students and he loves to teach. very intelligent man.
Very good teacher. He does have good study guides and a good sense of humor.
He is really nice, and his tests are kinda hard but all the answers are in his typed up notes so you don't have to take notes in class. I enjoyed the class a lot.
He was a terrible teacher. The worst I have ever had at UNI. He was bashing the Christian religion for 2 days and his grading was offbased and unfair. He is a mean mean man.
Mostly use handouts, some material from the book and library reserves. Class is boring and tests can be difficult.
The class is interesting. You're guaranteed to find out something you didn't know before. His tests require studying but nothing crazy. He gives lecture outlines and study guides. He does his best to make student comforable/prepared for tests.
This class really sucked. I hated his methods of teaching. I couldn't understand him because he didn't speak clearly. His tests are difficult, but he gives you handouts. This class was a waste of time, and I wouldn't take it.
A nice man, but classes are boring. Tests are hard but come straight fromt he notes and study guides. I didn't like how he went off subject alot in order to bash christianity and push his own views.
He knows lots about Africa but little about the English language. He frequently makes up words and uses them out of context. He is likable when not teaching and has had an interesting life. He will however, only see life one way, his way. I could have learned much more if he knew how to teach.
Class was boring, and took forever. 5 total tests, everything comes from notes and study guide. Does not speak the clearest English but does his best.
I loved this class. The info was so interesting and he did a good job teaching it. 5 total tests that are easy if you study the handouts and study guides
I really enjoyed this class. You learn a lot and it's enjoyable. We took 5 tests and he drops the lowest score. He gives out handouts and study guides for the test which make it easier. The tests can be tricky because they are mostly fill in the blanks. Overall an enjoyable class
Nice guy but kind of a black power advocate type.
i took this class and loved it he is so nice and very smart, helpful and understanding. Would reccomend it.
thumbs up
this class was hard, but good he is willing to help his students, liked him alot as a person and we still talk today about africa and stuff.
good class, funny too...
A very conscious advocate of Africa and democracy (from what I have heard in class). I enjoy coming to his class, although we only meet once a week.
You don't need to buy the book, he gives you all the notes. Its really easy, just read the packets he gives you and you'll get an A
do NOT buy the book or take notes. He hands out everything you need to know. you don't even need to go to class for anything, so if you know someone that will pick up a copy of the notes for you, then you're set!
Dr. Agbese is a truly awesome prof. He is a little hard to understand at 1st but you get used to it. You dont need the book and he gives handouts but I thought his lectures were very interesting. I really wasnt looking forward to this class but ended up loving it. He teaches it like you know nothing about Africa which most people dont.Good class
buying the overpriced book was pointless. Everything the test covered was in the handouts he gave. Test were mostly over names and some were way easy and others were impossible. its not easy to understand him and his handwriting on the board is also unclear
He is a little hard to understand. His tests are very important on memorizing the material. Don't think this class is easy by any means. You have to read a great deal, and the tests are the only part of your final grade!
The class wasnt horrible if you study for the test. Pita was very unhelpful, he even made me feel stupid on one occasion. He just plain doesnt care about his students

Pita is the man. Let's be serious. If you think he doesn't like you, it's probably because you are ignorant. The man is passionate about what he teaches, and really tries to get the students to love it.

He was very hard to understand at first, but then you get used to it. You have to do lots of reading for the tests that are every other week. The test material is often not what you study!
He is actually a really funny guy if you listen to his lectures. the tests are fill in the blank though so you have to actually be able to remember things, not just recognize them. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! for a gen ed it is kinda of difficult but not overwheming. Sit in front because he can speak quietly at times. I'd take him again.
One of my favorite profs in the poli sci dept. I had him for two classes and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. He is a brilliant man (and his English is better than most students- the kids whining about it are reaching for something to complain about) and he really helps you to see things through a non-Western lens, which is important. Awesome.
easy course, go to lectures on day he hands out packets & study those a few times & it is an easy A
Pita is a great guy. He knows a lot about the subject (since he was born in Africa). Tests aren't too bad. He has a review before each exam so that helps. I wouldn't recommend getting the textbook. I looked at it maybe once. If you show an interest in learning he will help you out.
Agbese=awesome. He is a funny man if you actually listen. The take-home cases were easy; they took at most an hour to finish at home and the in-class cases you can talk to the people around you. He's really helpful, and takes an interest in your life if you bother to tell. Ask questions! He will almost give you the answers to the tests if you do.
Class is pretty boring, as it is complete lecture. It is not required that you are there, but definitely go when the study guide is given out. Everything you need to know for the test is on the study guide. Don't buy the book. He is sometimes confusing, hard to understand. Make sure to clarify when tests are going to be given.
Pita is a very intelligent teacher. He knows his stuff, and goes over everything you need to know for exams. Read the cases, and you will do fine.
Great professor! and very easy class-no book! he give a study guide with everything on it so notes are not necessary but very helpful! extra credit on every test-usually have nothing to do with Africa! (trick questions) only bad thing-there may be a question or 2 on the test but not covered in class. so its an easy A-if u try!
He is completely useless as a Professor!
Great Teacher really knows his stuff, you just have to be willing to want to be there. Int. national law was a lot of fun, but occasionally he would catch people on technicalities
Easy class. Gives study guides and notes before every test. Dont really have to go to class. Make sure to take notes during videos. Tests are super easy if you study.. isnt hard material at all.
Best. Professor. Ever. He is hilarious. If you like politics, take international law. Take every class you can with him. Super easy A.
Prof. Agbese knows his stuff, and is very helpful if you simply read the chapters and ask questions when you are confused. papers? easy to write.
test are easy, you only need the book for the first test and it's open book. he gives you the notes in handouts and so you don't really need to attend class, but i would b/c it's helpful, and he's actually really funny--no lie. i laughed a lot during that class. ALL AROUND GREAT PROFESSOR!!! --just don't miss a test.
Make sure you attend the class after the exam. If you do not, he will not show you your score- and since the 5th test was optional- you don't know whether or not to take it because he won't tell you that grade. so be careful- but- a memorization class- if good with memorization take it- luckily I am- pretty simple class- 4 tests.
Holy cow. I had no idea how easy this class was gonna be! Pita is hilarious, and all his tests are just memorization, I have gotten A's on all my tests and he is really lenient on the tests too.. Great guy, take him unless you want to be challenged in a gen. ed. class. haha
Very easy. You get study guides with all the notes and practice tests.
Not quite as easy as others had said, test are mostly fill-in the blank or short answer, but there is so much information thats its hard to remember it all. Still not a bad class, would recommend it.
This professor is really good and cares about the learning of his students. Don't be afraid to ask questions, because I think he loves answering them. He wants to make sure everyone understands before moving on. You have to study the concepts and be able to apply them in his tests (essay/short answer).
Super nice guy that you can't help but to like. Class not as easy as portrayed. Tests are memory regurgitation fill in the blank so if you can't memorize well I would not recommend for a good grade. Otherwise it is fun to learn about the culture that he cares about and it shows.
Awesome class and Agbese is an easy teacher. Really makes sure students understand the material such as the facts of the cases, why the court ruled as they did, and what grounds the courts ruled on. Exremely helpful if you have questions, and was willing to correct students who made false assumptions about a case that was being discussed. Easy A
He is hard to understand but good professor. I had the night class and he was late once. Tests are easy if you study for them. You are able to use book on the tests so there is no point in reading them.
Wonderful teacher and very helpful. He always make-up tests if you miss a test, he wants everybody to do well that he has a day of review with study guides before the test.
Great professor, very helpful and allows for makeup tests if you miss a test.He has a review day where you can ask any questions from the study guide.Very great class.I would recommend taking one of his classes. I took two and I will be taking one again this semester.
This was a very easy class. The lectures were hit or miss as far as interesting goes. Hes very opinionated and often challenged students with views other than his. The study guides are all you need to get a good grade in this class.
Gives you study guides for test, 1 paper. very easy if you study but even a slacker could do well because he gives you what you need to pass. this is all i will say about his class w/o giving another secret out but lets just say he gives you a huge chance at the end not to fail his course, (Final) will count differently. Good Professor kind, smart.
Class was harder than expected, but he gives study guides prior to ever test so if you study the notes and SG you will do well. Don't skip class the notes in class are easier to follow than the ones in the study guide
He doesn't clarify what he wants his students to do on assignments. He is a strict teacher to get along with. He does give you study guides and mock exams which are helpful. He acts like Americans are stupid people and that we don't know our own culture. Overall he isn't the greatest teacher to take HUM 3128.
Don't buy the incredibly expensive text. It isn't needed at all. Case studies and tests based purely on lecture. Write down everything he puts on the board. Not hard at all. Tests were take-home. Only offered as a night class, which is a bummer.
Super easy class. He can be hard to hear at times. I didn't go to class very often because he sent out the lecture notes via email. We didn't have to purchase a text book either, so that was nice. He tells good stories and the tests aren't hard if you study your notes and go to class.
Great teacher. You will learn real information about Africa. His real life experience makes the class very interesting. This class was great although I thought his tests were pretty tough though. You do have to study for a good grade.
Pita is a good professor. He is kind of hard to understand, but he is very knowledgeable. You don't have a textbook at all. His classes are really boring, but it's good to go. His tests aren't bad, but make sure to study important details.
Agbese is very easy of a prof. He gives you previous tests to study from and gives the answers to those tests; only about half of the same questions will be on the test you actually take. The only downside to his class is that he is very arrogant and does not care about his students. Won't make any acceptations for anyone if you have a conflict.
The class consisted of many case studies and 2 take home exams. At times, it can be confusing what Pita is looking for, and he tends to say one thing in lecture but another when going over the case assignments. Regardless, he's a really easy grader and even when he verbally says you're "wrong," you usually get the points. Easy, but not the best.
His lectures are long, and it is hard to understand him at times. Sit in back and kinda pay attention: you get a C. He gives you previous tests from last semester, but rarely are they the same as the actual test you take. Pass on his class next time...
He is a good lecturer and a nice professor. However, his tests are extremely long (usually 100 questions for a 50 minute class period) and confusing. Questions take some thought, so its very hard to finish the whole test on time. Some questions are on things that he never talked about, or maybe mentioned once... Not a fan.
He doesn't put anything online, so you basically have no clue what your grade is until the end of semester. Gives tests back in class but won't say when, so if you miss that day, you're in trouble. Drops worst test. Very stressful. Easy, but I wouldn't take again.
Awesome professor, gives you old tests as study guides. Pay attention to these study guides as the tests are very similar to those. Really good guy, tells a lot of great stories but also likes to encourage participation. He won't ever say anything but he gets upset when kids skip his class.
The most unorganized professor I ever had. He doesn't post your grades until the end of the course and is very forgetful. He does not respond to emails at all and he also test you on things he did not teach. If you miss class he will not send you any information. Be prepared to go to his office hours with lots of questions.
Africa - Absolutely no homework, but miss class and you will not do well. 5 exams, the lowest score is dropped. He adds personal stories which enhance the class. If you want to pass you must go to EVERY CLASS, and pay attention/take notes, also I'd say about 3 hours of study time per exam to get an A or B. No text, only powerpoints.
Professor Agbese is from Nigeria, so it's not like he doesn't know what he's talking about in a class about Africa. There are five tests, but he only grades your top four. 100 MC questions on each test except the third test, but you get to use a book for that test. No homework, no projects, just tests. Gives out practice tests and answers to them.
This class was online, had four tests, and two discussion boards. All we got for notes were powerpoint slides, a couple videos, and one essay. The tests went into way more detail than the notes provides, leading to missed points on the tests. Tests were multiple choice, 50 questions, 40 minutes. I would not take this online with Agbese.
Pita is a very interesting man. Deeper into the Night was the book for this. I bought it and wish I wouldn't have. He gave power points over every chapter so you didn't really even need it. He drops your lowest exam score which is really awesome. Africa is a very easy class and you really do learn a lot. I enjoyed this class and would recommend it.
One of the WORST professors I've ever had. You're graded by only five tests, all 100 questions many of which definitely should not be 100 question tests. The questions are nothing beyond random trivia, and in our classes case, we had three exams in three weeks with no extra help from him. He wouldn't get his tests back before we took the next one.
I was really excited to take this class with Prof. Agbese, but we only met half the time. He cancelled constantly for one reason or another and kept pushing our due dates. I ended up not learning anything because he never went in depth due to the limited time we had in the class. We watched way to many videos. Conversations were interesting.
He was a nice professor and had some humor at the beginning of the year. The course is split up only into 5 tests, and he drops your lowest one. However, I feel as though his tests are unfair and hard to do well on. His tests are 100 questions long and throughout the test, he repeats many of the questions 2 or 3 times. Take specific notes.
He is very difficult to understand and has probably the worst handwriting of any teacher I've had. He knows a lot about Africa, but his tests are 100 questions (which is too much for the content we cover) and many of the questions we briefly talked about. He hands out study guides, but I'd say less than 1/2 of them are on the test. Would not take.
DO NOT TAKE HIS AFRICA CLASS. His tests are barely even about the lecture material and are worded very poorly. I also missed an exam and when I retook it, the whole test was misnumbered and I never got a grade for it. He also will never respond to emails so if you need something you have to talk to him and he is very forgetful.
Not accessible outside class and only grades based off weekly assignments that seem to be arbitrarily graded (no feedback given for why points were or were not missed). Assignments also discussed concepts we didn't learn in class. Does not respond to email well and may cancel class with minimal announcements about the cancellation.
He seems like a nice person, but not the best professor. The exams are okay, but that is all you are graded on. The class consists of a lot of powerpoints which isn't too bad. However, he rarely responds to emails so he is hard to contact.
I took his African class. He s great professor and very passionate about what he is teaching. BUT he only gives exams. So If exam taking isn't your strongest suit I would try someone else. We had no projects or homework. It was hard for me the way his class is set up.
Very kind and funny professor, he makes learning about Africa really interesting. You will enjoy yourself in this class very much.
For the most part, he's a pretty chill guy and the class wasn't too difficult. Only 5 exams are given and he drops the lowest one. Tests weren't too hard as long as you listen and take some notes. Also provides a study guide, which is helpful.
Great professor. He clearly knows his subject matter and makes class enjoyable. Two things: he doesn't seem to check emails, and sometimes, he makes mistakes on his tests which he may or may not fix. P.S. attendance not mandatory, but his anecdotes during the lecture occasionally show up on exams.
I could tell Pita was a very genuine person who knew a lot about what he was talking about. There are two things: He doesn't check emails so If you need to communicate with him ask in person. He usually will not put the notes on blackboard so I would make sure to get all the notes in class. No homework, only tests are graded.
