Professor Polina is super passionate about her work! Shes very understanding, especially during the pandemic. Just show up to class and listen to the lectures. Her papers are fairly easy as long as you follow the outline! Very easy grader in my opinion. One of the most caring professors ive ever had.
By far the most caring professor in my experience at Case. She is very aware of the struggles we've gone through as nursing students during the pandemic. If you participate in the discussions and write meaningfully and concisely, you will get an A (she tells you this directly). She is the professor we all needed and I hope she gets a raise!
Lectures are dry and boring, though the quizzes and exams were all simple multiple choice. Unfortunately Polina shows blatant disdain for non social science/nursing majors, constantly implying that the material of her introductory class may be too hard for stem majors to comprehend. Save yourself and avoid if you're a stem major.
A fine professor, just rude. I've had a few interactions with her where she specifically asked for feedback, but found ways to dispute my points immediately. When going over quizzes is surprised that anyone has the audacity to get anything wrong. She literally suggested that people's hands may have slipped and chosen the wrong answer.
She is clear about her expectations, knowledgeable, and provides interesting readings on canvas. The class is very well organized and it's easy to succeed if you put in a moderate amount of effort. She's blunt (bc that's Russian culture) but very clearly cares for students. She's very communicative, flexible, & one of the best profs at Case imo!
Light homework, no textbook, nice mix of lectures, discussions, podcasts, and videos. I dont care for human development and had to take this class as a part of my nursing program but the lectures were not boring and we always discussed recent events.
I had to take this class for my major. At first I was not interested in the content. Who needs human development? Polina was fun, caring, and very attentive to her students. She made me feel welcomed in the class. She encouraged me to participate in the class discussions. Her lectures are clear and her readings are fun and current.
Professor Polina created a welcoming environment and everyone's opinion was heard and respected. I was super nervous to talk in a class of 60 students but she always emailed me and encouraged me to participate. I do not care for the subject matter but I learned a lot. Her lectures are clear & fun. I want to take her Intro to Sociology class next.
She makes the students feel like equals with her. This is so rare at Case Western. Go to class and read the assigned readings and you will be fine.
Polina's class is mandatory for the nursing students so I had to take it. I did not care for the content of the class but I enjoyed taking her class. Everything is well-structured and clear. Professor is always available and welcomes questions and discussions.
This is my second course with this professor. I took her summer SOCI 101 Intro to Sociology course and SOCI 203 Human Development. She is very passionate about her subject and provides extensive feedback. She made me a better writer and thinker. I learned a lot!
Department of Sociology is pretty dysfunctional. I took some boring courses from this department for my soc minor. Polina 's class was actually fun, informative. Her readings are manageable and I learned a lot. I especially enjoyed class discussions. She is always available, always helps students.
I took her Intro to Sociology last summer. The workload was manageable, the lectures were clear and interesting. Polina was always available and encouraging. I worked a lot but I learned a lot. She is very sensitive to the needs of international students. I am taking her Human Development course this summer. Thinking of declaring sociology minor.
This was my first sociology course at Case. Polina was so passionate about her topic and inspirational that I decided to pursue sociology as my second major. Fun lectures, she loves podcasts and NPR news. Very interactive. I learned so much! I am sad she is leaving Case.
I took her SOCI 203 asynchronous course in June. What a fantastic class. Her expectations and grading were clear and she was always available to meet me when I had questions. I learned a lot. She used documentaries, news articles, and podcasts and her assignments were actually fun and relevant. She is leaving to teach at Hobart. We will miss her.
Polina truly cares about her students. She always reaches out and asks how we are doing. She is very understanding of each student's unique circumstances. Polina puts a lot of emphasis on writing and she made me a better writer. I enjoyed Canvas discussions, I learned so much from my classmates. Polina responds to students' emails within minutes.
I took Polina's class because my classmates took her Intro to Sociology last summer. I loved Professor Polina for her kindness. My favorite part of the course was our Canvas discussions. I got to know my classmates and show my understanding of the course materials and the key concepts. One of the best instructors at Case!
Caring, understanding, and fun. I loved her lectures and her clear expectations. Attendance and participation is a big chunk of the final grade, so don't skip her classes.
Very engaging class, Professor Polina is an excellent discussion leader. I love writing daily reflections on the assigned readings, it really helps my learning and comprehension. Polina is always available and her suggestions helped me improve my studying skills and final grade.
If you do the readings, you are set. She cares about her students deeply so if you are ever having any trouble do not be hesitant to reach out to her.
Polina cares about her students and their interests. Her office hours are very helpful. I took her Introduction to Sociology summer course and found the materials and lectures clear and interesting. I needed Intro for my MCAT and many exam questions were based on MCAT questions.
I took Polina's summer SOCI 101 (Intro to Sociology). This course really helped me with my MCAT preparation. The lectures, exam questions, and quizzes were well-organized and covered all the topics tested on the MCAT. I especially appreciated how much Polina was focused on developing our critical thinking and problem solving skills.
I enjoyed Polina's summer Intro course. It was valuable for my academic development and MCAT preparation. Polina was very helpful and welcoming. Her passion for teaching was evident in every lecture. If you are studying for MCAT, I highly recommend her course.
I'm currently taking Polina's SOCI 101 course, and it's the first large lecture course at Case where the professor truly interacts with her students. Polina does an excellent job engaging the class in discussions. Although attendance isn't required, her lectures are super useful especially for students preparing for the MCAT.
Polina is the only professor this semester who has taken the time to email me personally to check in on how I'm doing. Her thoughtfulness makes me feel welcomed. Thanks to her approachable teaching style, I never feel lost in her large lecture class. Her SOCI 101 lectures are clear, well-organized, and especially helpful for MCAT preparation.
I am taking Professor Polina's SOCI 101 course this fall. What sets her course apart is her ability to create an open classroom environment. Even though it is a large lecture class, I feel comfortable sharing my perspective. Polina always emails me and encourages me to participate in the class discussions. No one has ever done that for me.
SOCI 101 is a super easy class if you attend lectures and take notes. The textbook is sometimes boring but gives all the concepts tested on MCAT and in class. Professor Polina inspired me to declare sociology minor.
Dr. Ermoshkina always takes the time to listen to my concerns. I am a first gen student. She makes me feel heard and respected, which motivates me to work harder. I like her teaching style and her lectures. She always encourages me to do better.
Great professor. Super passionate about sociology and radiates energy. I love this class!
Professor Polina's class is very well-structured and organized. She is so passionate about Sociology and always available for questions. The textbook is a little dry but needed for MCAT concepts.
Great class. Highly recommend for those studying for the MCAT.
I took this class because everyone told me Intro to Sociology was the easiest A on campus. Polina's class is so much harder than I expected. But I like her lectures and the way she explains concepts. I am learning about MCAT and we do many practice questions in class.
I didnt do so well on my first exam in her Intro to Sociology but she met with me numerous times outside of her office hours. Professor Polina helped me with my note taking strategy and my time management. I got A on my second exam. I am so happy 😊
Dr. Polina is super passionate about her subject and it shows in her lectures and the ways she engages with students. She grades on improvement, dont panic if you failed the first exam, it gets better once you know the format and the expectations. Her Intro is fun and a nice break from my stem class. Super useful for MCAT.
So nice and helpful to me. Helped me with my cultural problem. I am international and first semester is to hard. Professor Polina always checks with me, it makes this semester feel more comfortable.
Helpful and always available to meet outside of her office hours. I hope all professors at Case are so kind and caring. I struggle with writing and Dr. Polina is helping me so much.
This class is easy if you read and attend her lectures. It is a nice break from my polisci heavy reading courses.
The easiest A at Case. All you have to do is attend her lectures, take notes, understand the highlighted concepts, and you will get an A. She has an excellent memory so participation in class discussions matters. I highly recommend her class for my fellow MCAT takers!
Fun, caring, kind. Professor Polina teaches not only sociology but how to succeed on the MCAT. I love weekly practice MCAT questions and her tips on how to tackle these questions. Awesome class!
Professor Polina is the absolute GOAT. Aside from the fact that she's an absolute UNIT in the field of sociology, she is genuinely the nicest professor I know. She cares so much about her students and their performance in her class and goes out of her way to help students who are struggling a bit. Her lectures are by far the best at CWRU.
Polina is my queen. She cares about her students so much and decorates for every holiday, like are you kidding me. If Polina was a freshman dorm, she would be Norton. I am not trolling, she is really knowledgeable, her lectures are really good, and if you put in the work you'll get an A.
not the easy class I was expecting...take someone else
had to drop
Chilled professor. I appreciate learning about MCAT in my first semester at Case. Professor Polina always encourages me to participate in the class discussions, she truly cares about her students.
Professor Ermoshkina is so helpful. I always come to her office hours to learn more about MCAT. She shared her MCAT resources with me. Her class is very easy and straightforward just take good notes, and attend her lectures. The easiest A this semester. I feel prepared for the MCAT.
Professor Polina actually remembers her students' names. In a large lecture course that is impressive. My absences are always noticed and she encourages me to do better in her course. She actually prepares you for the MCAT.
My roommate took SOCI 101 with Abolade Oladimeji and learned nothing. I decided to take Intro with Polina Ermoshkina and it was the best decision. Every class we practice sociological concepts from the MCAT. The class is rigorous and makes you work for your A. Everything we learn is tied to the MCAT. Awesome class!
Not an easy A like other instructors. If you want to do nothing, take the class with another instructor. I am studying for the MCAT, so this is the most helpful class for me this semester. I love Polina's teaching style. She is very honest with her students and encourages me to do better. I really appreciate the MCAT focus of this course.
Kind, caring, welcoming. I love MCAT practice questions. I feel prepared for the MCAT.
She busted me with using AI for the first exam. She gave me a second chance and didn't report me. I started taking notes, attending her office hours, reading the textbook and now I have A. Not the easiest class at Case but super useful for the MCAT preparation.
My friend dropped this class because she used AI on both exams. If you want an easy A and do nothing, take the class with another instructor. If you want MCAT preparation then this section of for you. I love this class. Polina is passionate about her subject and teaches you MCAT concepts.
You have to work to get A in this class. Other SOCI 101 professors give A to everyone. My teammates are in other sections and everyone is getting an A for just breathing. I take detailed notes, attend every lecture and I find her exams super easy. I need this class for the MCAT and she prepared me well for the MCAT.
Come to class and go to Polina's office hours and you will be fine. Her exams are based on the lectures. My roommate dropped the class because she didn't attend the lectures for weeks. The best class for MCAT preparation. No other class at Case is so focused on the MCAT.
Not an easy class. I worked very hard and succeeded on both exams. Professor Polina is teaching us how to write well, what she calls "with surgical precision." I always look forward to in class writing exercises. The material is interesting and a nice break from my STEM classes. I am so grateful for the MCAT practice questions.
Great class. Professor Polina wants everyone to succeed on the MCAT so she is teaching the concepts that are tested on the MCAT. I feel more confident about the exam. I love her lectures.
Professor Polina's class is fun and engaging. I always look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays. She wants students to feel comfortable in a large lecture hall. She even bring decorations (Halloween, Thanksgiving) to make the space more cozy and welcoming.
My teammates had to drop Professor Ermoshkina 's course because they were caught using AI. Don't use AI, just her lectures and the textbook and you will get an A. Her grading is fair and very clear. She encourages you to work harder. Excellent class for the MCAT preparation!!!
Professor Ermoshkina is a great lecturer. She makes a dry textbook more fun. Come to her office hours, she can give you more MCAT practice questions. I am considering a sociology minor after this class.
What a nice welcome to Case! Professor Polina is the kindest, most understanding, welcoming professor in my first semester at Case. Her passion for sociology is contagious, it makes me want to major in sociology. The class is largely focused on the MCAT and she warned us about it. I am not in STEM but I value practice exam questions.
Awesome class, I'm sad it's over. The class incorporated the MCAT practice questions and passages. I am so grateful to learn about the format of the MCAT in my first semester at Case.
The class expectations are very clear. One of the easiest class for me this semester. All you have to do is attend Mrs Polina's lectures and take really good notes. My teammates who skipped her classes struggled on the first exam and dropped the course. You do have to put effort to get an A. Not as easy as other instructors teaching Intro.
Dr. Ermoshkina teaches Intro as an MCAT prep course. MCAT practice questions almost every class. The material is presented in a very clear way and repeated multiple times. You do learn the key sociological concepts. This class made me less nervous about the MCAT.
This is a really useful class. I am taking the MCAT next year and this class was a fabulous experience! I learn about the structure of the MCAT, how to answer different types of questions, concepts that are often tested on the exam. I cannot thank enough Dr. Polina for teaching the course tailored to the pre-med students.
Hard but worth it.
Made me want to study sociology!
I learned so much from this class. This is not an easy A. My friends are in another section and everyone is getting an A. I am glad I chose this section. I am well prepared for the MCAT and learned sociological concepts that are tested on the MCAT.
Very honest with her students. Always available to meet outside of her office hours and explain everything .Trains you for the MCAT. My critical thinking skills and academic writing improved. Highly recommend this course!
The class is much more difficult than I expected. I was hoping for an easy A. I had to put tremendous effort into this class. It paid off. I am thankful for the MCAT preparation.
This class will prepare you for the MCAT! Professor Polina is a great and caring instructor.
I am international student, and Professor Polina Ermoshkina class was very helpful for me. I feel more comfortable in her class than others because she is patient and not judge my English. I think she is very good teacher.
I'm a freshman and took this sociology class as a requirement, but Professor Polina made it one of my favorite classes of the semester. Lectures were super engaging, and she explained complex concepts in a way that actually made sense. She is really understanding and approachable during office hours. Definitely recommend.
This professor is one of the best I've had during my four years at Case. Her lectures are super organized, clear, and actually interesting. Dr. Ermoshkina genuinely cares about students learning the material, not just memorizing it for exams.
Dr Polina is the GOAT
Polina is highly responsive to questions, both in class and via email, and genuinely invested in students' growth. She cares about your well-being. Excellent preparation for the MCAT. I cannot recommend this class enough!
This class will prepare you for the MCAT. You need to attend Professor Polina 's lectures and take detailed notes if you want A. My friend dropped this class because she was caught cheating on both exams. Write your own notes and you will get A. Do not rely on someone else 's notes. Great clas!
Best prof at CWRU. Her teaching style is conducive to my learning. Instead of boring lectures in a large lecture hall, she teaches Intro as an interactive seminar like course. Every class we do MCAT practice questions.
This class helped me with the MCAT. I feel well prepared to take it next year. Professor Polina is the only instrctor at Case who is teaching MCAT materials and trains you to take a test. Wonderful class, I am so grateful for this opportunity. Very kind to international students like me.
Dr. Ermoshkina is the best! Only 3 exams, no hw no final papers no projects. This class is a breeze. You do need to attend and take notes. She remembers faces and names and if you don't attend she will notice. A bunch of of friends are in trouble for skipping clases. Do yourself a favor attend every lecture. Excellent MCAT prep.
Professor Polina is amazing. She encouraged me to do better on my writing and exams. She is so understanding and kind. I am grateful for the MCAT preparation.
Tough exams but there are plenty of practice questions during the lectures to prepare you for the exams. As long as you stay on top of things throughout the semester, Professor Polina gives you all the resources you need to succeed. I learned a lot! And I feel ready for the MCAT.
Nicest human being and explains the material very well. The lectures are well structured and easy to follow. MCAT practice questions almost every class! The best professor at Case.
Polina is very smart and funny. She is also a very reasonable person with regards to course expectations. Canvas exams are very straightforward. If you attend her lectures and write good notes you will get an A.
Professor Polina wants everyone to succeed. Her course expectations are fair and clear. She runs Intro as an MCAT tutoring course. You will learn a lot but you have to attend her lectures. The exams are heavily based on the lecture materials.
You get what you put into this class. Dr. Ermoshkina provides a ridiculous amount of exam practice questions, that really prepare you for her 3 exams. Go to lectures!!! Remember the A is earned, not given.
This class will teach you how to succeed on the MCAT. I loved it!
Best class this semester! Prof Polina is so welcoming to international students. She is always encouraging me to do better. I appreciate this kindness and understanding.
Dr Polina will make you work for your grade. I learned so much from her class and I feel ready for the MCAT. I am considering switching my minor to sociology.
If you want to do well on the MCAT, take this class. I appreciated daily MCAT practice questions.
She's really fun and makes sociology interesting. I'm a STEM major and needed this class for a breadth requirement. She doesn't take attendance but very often asks you to do practice written responses (reflections, descriptions of population pyramids, MCAT passages). She knows who is in class!!!! Go to her lectures then it is a relatively easy A.
Please study hard from the very beginning. Dr. Ermoshkina does not curve the grade or give EC. Memorization is not needed, you need to understand the content. She wants every student to succeed and responds to emails within minutes.
Prof Polina was not kidding final exam really can save your final grade. I dropped the class too early. Learned a lot about MCAT in the 10 weeks that I attended.
I didn't do anything the first 6 weeks and my grade never recovered. My fault. Dr. Polina reached out to me numerous times, encouraged to attend, alerted my advisor. Attend every lecture then it is easy to get a high score.
one of my favorite profs hands down. i never really liked sociology, nor was i good at social sciences, but dr. polina explains concepts in such an understandable way. her personality really shines through in the lectures.
I worked really hard from day one. Intro doesn't mean easy. Intro means introduction to the discipline. The reading requirement was manageable. Very fair instructor. I LOVED all the MCAT practice questions every class!
My friend dropped this class because she was caught plagiarizing the professor. I came to learn and prepare for the MCAT. You must attend every lecture. Polina's in class writing assignments prepare you adequately for the exams. I loved the structure of the class and helpful tips on MCAT.
This is my first semester here and wow everyone expects A for every class. If A is not given, they drop the course. I am here to learn. I struggled with my first exam. After the first exam I changed my note taking strategy, went to office hours, and practiced exam questions. The expectations are very clear. This is a college course. Awesome class!
If you want to master the MCAT take Intro with this professor, if you want an easy A, take it with CSJ. My teammates are in that course. Everyone got an A. I am grateful for all the MCAT materials that Polina gave us.
Dr Polina is such a caring professor. Students complain because they are the ones who didn't put in the work. I guess they were expecting a walk in the park. She provides MCAT resources, exam practice questions, and her lectures are great.
Generous grader, gives you at least partial points. Without taking notes - impossible to pass. If you take good notes and understand the material - A is guaranteed!
Polina brings Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations to the lecture hall. She is always trying to make students comfortable. Amazing lecturer. Lectures are interactive. She connected us with the alumni who successfully passed the MCAT and got accepted into medical schools.
Highly recommend Dr. Polina for all students, especially those planning to pursue a career in healthcare. Grades are only based on exams, but her tests are all online, and open-note/open-textbook. Be sure to attend class and take notes for all lectures. One of the few professors I've met who genuinely cares about her students
Polina doesn't do extra credit so try to do well on the first exam. Her exams are straightforward but a bunch of my classmates were caught cheating and using AI. If you want an easier class take it with CSJ, if you want the MCAT training, this is the only professor at Case who teaches the MCAT.
Best class this semester! Prof Polina is very honest and straightforward with her students. This class will PREPARE you for the MCAT!
Dr Ermoshkina held extra office hours during the finals week! Thats all I have to say. She really cares about each student and wants everyone to succeed.
Polina answers emails in minutes. She is always available to meet outside her office hours. The class was enjoyable and the expectations were clear. A significant portion of the class is the MCAT training.
My roommate was in another section of Intro and they didnt even talk about the MCAT. Dr. Ermoshkina structured her course with us in mind. We learned things that were directly tested on the MCAT. It was awesome
Take notes, organize your notes, come to the office hours to clarify concepts - A is guaranteed!!!
She is amazing. The class is graded by only 3 exams and attendance is not recorded. However, attend every class if you want to do good on the exams. She is very kind and supportive and will help you prepare for the exams. She is the sweetest and really cares for her students.
You are graded on 3 exams in this class, and that's it. To succeed, go to class and take notes on EVERYTHING she says. This is super important. She is super kind and caring. Just put in the work and effort, and see her during office hours. This course is also super helpful for the MCAT.
MCAT! MCAT! She will prepare you for MCAT!
I was ill for weeks this semester and Dr. Polina emailed me weekly to check how I was doing. She truly cares about her students.
Dr Ermoshkina is super kind and super helpful. Go to her office hours she will help you with MCAT.
This class will teach you how to write well and how to get ready for MCAT!
Her research training seminar and lecture on medical research ethics sparked my interest in social research. Everything we talk about in this class applies to real life. Loved it!
Best prof at Case but I had to work hard for my grade. MCAT training was fab
Attend her lectures and write everything down, use your own words on your exams and you will get A. Best MCAT training!
Clear lectures, clear expectations. Taker her class if you can. Super valuable for pre-health majors because of MCAT focus.
Dr Polina genuinely cares about her students and their success. She held 5 extra office hours during the finals week. She responds to emails super fast. Great MCAT training!
She says attendance is optional but designs the exams(which make up 100% of the total grade in the class) in such a way that if you don't go to lecture you effectively fail. She also keeps the grading criteria vague and harsh. Do not take her if you're not a premed student
Easiest class this semester. Dr. Polina tests you only on her lectures so if you attend and take notes you will get A. She is welcoming and always reaches out to check how I was doing.
Dr. Ermoshkina helped me a lot this semester. I was absent for the first few weeks and she always checked on my progress with readings and explained concepts during her office hours. Very easy and clear expectations!
If you are pre-med take her class to get a strong MCAT prep. If you are like me a psych major, take her class because it is fun, easy, and interactive. She cares for students and even decorates the classroom for every holiday!
Prof Polina gives you exam practice questions in class! She posted final exam practice questions that were the final exam questions. If you didn't get A, I don't know what to say.
Dr Polina teaches a large lecture class as if it was a seminar. She welcomes your opinions and makes the course material interesting and applicable to the real world. I loved this class.
Polina is an incredible prof and human being. After taking her Intro, she quickly turned into one of my trusted mentors at CWRU. She answers emails during the winter break and is always available to help.
If you don't attend her lectures, it is impossible to get an A. I am glad I understood it early in the semester. I had to work very hard in this class but I am proud of my results. And I am ready for MCAT!
It really takes a lot to not like her so ignore the negative reviews. My sister took her SOCI 203 in 2022 and she still talks about that class! I loved Polina's teaching style.
You will learn a thing or two in this class. My favorite part of the class MCAT practice sessions.
I learned so much from this class! If you can take SOCI 101 with this prof. Polina is caring kind and genuinely wants you to succeed. Her exams are easy and all you need to do is to attend her lectures and take notes.
Really fair. Her lectures are interactive and fun, I even forgot I was in a large class. She makes you feel welcome and comfortable to share opinions. Great MCAT resources!
