Heavy accent, very difficult to understand what she wants. Unclear on what is assigned and posts assignments online with no forewarning. Very nice lady but terrible English prof.
Heavy accent, very difficult to understand what she wants. Unclear on what is assigned and posts assignments online with no forewarning.
I thought the material covered to be very basic, and while the prof maybe can't be blamed for that, she certainly did not help. Lectures were mostly reiterations of material covered in the text, except drawn out. However, she was always eager to help, and that is appreciated. A decent prof, but I wish she could have made it more interesting.
Took a long time to return marking. Often was confusing regarding dates for assignments. Would hand draw maps and guess at the spelling of Names while a computer sat at her elbow, then would lecture students about being investigative scholars and professional. Added an online discussion section to an in class course. A lot of work.
Really cares about her students, I learned a lot.
Nice lady , however boring lectures that did not help at all
She's a bit scattered (inconsistent homework/assignment dates etc). Very well educated. Somewhat intimidating. Very eager to help. Wants you to succeed. Her bar is set high. Heavy reading. Content of class very interesting.
Really nice lady. She is very eager to help her students and really wants them to succeed. Her lectures can be long and boring. Course is reading heavy. She could get marked assignments back sooner. All in all she's not a bad prof. If you ask her for help she will go the whole nine yards to help you in any way she can which I appreciate.
She is a very good prof. in UFV, well-educated, knowledgeable and helpful. If you want to learn, take her courses, and you can learn a lot from her.
She is a good professor. I really enjoyed her classes. She was very educated about the topics she taught and made the class enjoyable. I would love to take another class with her.
She is just awesome. I just loved this professor. Everyone should take at least one course with her to make english enjoyable.
Prabhjot is a good teacher, she cares about her students and wants them to do well. Unfortunately she had to cancel uite a few classes which sucked. 4 quizzes, no midterm. Assignments are straight forward and she puts effort into her instructions online. She is a fair marker, but her lectures were boring and she often rambled.
Avoid this professor.
Hypocritical, confrontational, and utterly unclear on expectations. Late to every class. Never gives quizzes when she says she will and then makes her students take three on the last two days of class (after the final exam). Never again.
Before taking this class I hated english courses but Prabhjot has completely changed my mind. Her quizes are a little tough so make sure write notes on what is said in class. Follow her guidelines for assignments and you will do fine.
Was very disorganized. Did not clarify anything and when she tried to clarify something she would confuse you more than anything. I would not recommend this prof. I felt like I have learned nothing coming out of that class. Assignments and due dates were unclear. We were expected to do a lot in a short amount of time. I would avoid this prof!
Do yourself a favour and avoid taking her upper level classes(perhaps she is better in the 100 level classes?). In 382, I cannot pinpoint what I learned from her, overall. Texts were not analyzed to the extent expected. Scheduled quizzes never given on time. Very unclear and unpredictably ill-mannered. Occasionally kind, although inconsistent.
This was a very stressful class. Prabjot's intimidating to and confrontational with students. She tries to out-debate(her words) any student that complains. She didn't teach much, but gave difficult quizzes and exams. We were way off syllabus, and quiz and assignment due dates were confusing. I don't recommend her.
Often gets off topic. Very unclear. Often "encourages" students to speak in class but that turns into 5 mins of explaining why she wants you to talk in class. Every class that happens. I would say it's 60% teaching 40% random jib jabber. Would Not recommend if you have a problem with unclear/heavy accented profs. Sweet Lady though.
Prabhjot was a bit confusing, as her quizzes were very detailed but she wants her students to get a good mark. Attending class is not mandatory unless its a quiz day. Her final was extremely eay! I got a B without even trying
She is a very nice person outside of class time. During class she is rude, always late and does not address any questions asked about assignments or exams. She is inconsistent with her e-mails and never hands back assignments - some you might just never get back, ever!Easy marker but if you want to actually learn, don't take her class.
Most disorganized prof ever. She was always late to class, and wasnt very helpful in class either. Although she did try teaching most of the time she went off topic and started talking about other random stuff. If you actually want to learn something in english i say dont ever take this prof.
Worst professor for an introductory course. Unclear about assignment deadlines. Goes off topic and often forgets what she was trying to get across. She is also very intimidating in class. I remember asking her a question and she told me that I was interrupting her thinking process, right after she had lectured about talking in class.
all we did was discuss WW1 and if students didnt know about WW1 she would get mad and say rude comments. We had one project all on WW1 she did not even mark us on our writing but only what we discussed about the war. If i wanted to take a history class i would have. . . goes off topic every class . DONT TAKE HER FOR 101 you will learn nothing .
Good professor. Can be unclear and waste class time. Is however helpful and wants her students to succeed. Best time to catch her if after class. She does not reply to emails much.
She has a very hard time of understanding what academic writing was and made us write more creative style as opposed to an academic way. The essay topic was terrible and cannot communicate effectively. Would not recommend for 105.
Prabhjot can be a little intimidating at first but she's actually very kind and helpful. She helped me out big time after I accidentally missed the final. Lessons are a little disorganized and she tends to ramble, but does know the material. Textbook is referenced in class but I never looked at it outside class. Assignments are graded fairly.
Prabhjot knows the subject well obviously and will impress you with her vocabulary but only gives the class a small amount of her energy which it sounds like she reserves mostly for her research ie our course is almost over and we haven't had any quizzes yet and have not gotten anything back yet that we've handed in but she is a very easy marker
This class was extremely frustrating to get through. It was supposed to be English Lit, but I didn't learn much about literature. It was more like a WWI history class. She rambles for no reason and her quizzes are WAY too specific. She doesn't actually test you on comprehension. If you can memorize every detail of the text then you'll be fine.
I got an A- in her course; however, I do not recommend Parmar as a prof. showed up late to most classes. In-class writing assignments were on confusing topics. cancelled the last 3 classes before final. never received our big final assignment (worth 40% of our mark) back. This is frustrating because feedback is important. Learnt more in Eng 12.
Has a slightly thick accent, may be hard for some people to understand. Is helpful when you really need it. The assignments and reading material isn't so bad, it's pretty fair. Attendance is sometimes mandatory. She is easily available to talk to in person if you have any concerns and sometimes emailing her may take a few days.
She is constantly changing assignment requirements and is not very clear on what she wants from the students. She is not very approachable, and she just loves to talk and talk and talk . . .
She was my best english prof by far! She had a different teaching style that focused on class discussion. She made sure to recap her previous lectures briefly at the beginning of class and it made it easier to follow along in discussions because she made sure everyone understood what was happening in the novels we read. The tests are not bad.
Hard to understand, forgetful, unprepared, unclear on expectations, wastes most of class time talking about unrelated topics (WW1).
She is very friendly and funny, but not everyone who is a great person is a great professor. She does not assign a lot of homework, but gives quizzes which are impossible to study for. She is very slow on marking anything so do not expect helpful feedback in a timely manner. Her lectures feel very unorganized and she tends to digress on whim.
Despite her quirks, she gives amazing lectures that are engaging and SO FUNNY. A fair marker and excellent capacity to select relevant and intriguing works of literature for study. Most of all, Dr. Prabhjot Parmar is kind, approachable, and very witty - she is the quintessential english professor, and quite unforgettable.
Professor Parmar's class was very engaging as a result of her passion and enthusiasm. I thoroughly enjoyed her style of dissemination; it was often humourous. The course requires diligence and hard work, but ends up being rewarding.
She is quick to answer you emails. She makes he instructions very clear.
She is always helpful, her assignments reflect her creativity she has command over the subject matter.
She seemed nice at first, but went downhill fast. She isn't organized for her own class, expects you to know things she didn't tell you, and complains that no one follows her instructions when she didn't give any to begin with. She goes off topic to tell off students(texters, talkers, daydreamers) then switches topics leaving things half discussed.
One topic throughout the entire course so there's no freedom to write about what you want to write. Majority of the assignments done throughout the course do not help with the final major project.
I wouldn't recommend. We wrote all the assignments on the same topic. She gave quizzes that were difficult to study for. Goes off topic really easily, usually trying to give life lessons to the class. Calls you out for being on your phone. Unclear with instructions. Very passionate for the subject of English, expects class to have the same passion.
She seems like a nice lady but I wasn't a fan of her teaching. She was very disorganized for the lectures and didn't ever seem to know what to teach about which led to it being very repetitive and a waste of time. It takes a long time to get feedback on small assignments so you don't know how you're doing and she gives quite harsh criticism on work
She has a passion for English and that's really clear and easy to see. But she doesn't keep on track in lectures and tends to get sidetracked. She doesn't really explain the essays that you do very well. There is a group presentation which is not very hard. Her marking is not concise, you can go from a C+ to an A- and have same quality of work.
I am a 4th year student and average an A. This professor is extremely unorganized, she marks papers well over a month after submission, she gives little to no feedback even when it is requested. I would avoid this prof at all costs. I am getting B's on my work in a 100 level class... I usually get A's in 300/400 level classes
Prabhjot is very unorganized, and her lectures often go in circles about irrelevant topics. Quizzes are impossible to study for. She's a tough marker & gives no notes on what she wants. Don't expect an A in this class, even if you're used to getting them. Her assignments are very vague and confusing. I didn't learn a thing in this class. Avoid it!!
This professor is a nice person, but her classes are completely disorganized. There is no set lesson plan, and a lecture on poetry can easily turn into a discussion of the novel read three weeks ago -- it's all over the map. While there is some room for flexibility in the study literature, students are left feeling entirely adrift each week.
Talked about nonsense in class for most of the semester. Prabhjot is very unorganized and does not follow the syllabus material. I would not take any of her classes again, nor would I suggest her class. Be ready for impossible quizzes based on non course material and small details which are hardly mentioned in the text. She likes participation.
Worst. Prof. Unorganized and talks about irrelevant topics. Her assignments are vague and frustrating; she doesn't provide clarification well either. She is a very hard marker despite giving little or vague criteria. Quizzes are often on irrelevant material. Slow marker. Big on participation. AVOID AVOID AVOID. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
No! Just no! Unorganized, slow, unclear, wordy, speaks in circles, hard to understand. Fails a lot of people. JUST RUN AWAY!!!!
Professor Parmar cares about her students' overall education, and not just their grade. She is great at communicating and setting expectations. She is not an easy marker - has high standards. She is passionate about her subject. I found her class inspirational and engaging. I loved the book choices and enjoyed the class discussions.
Took online - very disorganized. Hard to know what is going on. Very behind on grading/responding to emails and questions. She does not stick to her own dates or syllabus. Stressful because you feel like you're always missing something. A lot of reading/difficult grading for 100 level. However, good content and novels. Did enjoy material.
Do not take this class! It is not worth it. You leave every class more confused than the last. Expectations are not clear and the syllabus is not always followed. There is no feedback on your papers and assignments, only checkmarks and then a mediocre grade for who knows what reason. Take a different English class!!
After reading Dr Parmars reviews I was terrifed to take her. But that was not the case! She was delightful and replied to emails right away. She has a grading scale. I took this class online ans loved it. If you take this online be sure to keep on track of discussion posts. If you do these posts it will really help you with your papers! Thanks
I was leery of taking a class with Dr. Parmar after reading her reviews, but I have to say I am very glad that I did. She is a compassionate professor who pushes her students to think outside the box. Her quizzes are a bit tough, as they focus on very specific details in the readings, but after the first two, I began to understand the format!
do not take this class, you will learn nothing. she goes on and on about stories and teaches absolutely nothing. she makes you do assignments on the same things over and over again. should not be teaching it since she doesn't understand the language herself. basically DO NOT TAKE if you'd like to keep your sanity.
This is half way through the semester and my grades have been awful, even though I excel in English classes here. She made it clear that nobody will get an A, and class averages are usually between 52-65% this semester. She rambles all class and never tells us what to do. Kind woman but I've been paying for absolute nonsense and disappointment.
Basically don't have to show up for class for what you learn there. Papers are too repetitive and you get awful grades for no reason, in a 100 level class! I should've dropped the course. Many regrets.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Professor Prabhjot Parmar cannot stay on topic. During our lectures we find her asking more questions on math than on English itself. She is very condescending and can get very angry over nothing. She told me my participation mark was very low, according to her I am distracting in class because I smile during the lecture.
Really didn't like her class. It was supposed to be intro to Shakespeare and instead we watched a bunch of Bollywood films. It would have been fine if I signed up for a film class. She's nice but nice doesn't mean good classes. Would not recommend.
One of the most unclear and distracted professors I've ever had. Each class she'll ramble, jumping from topic to topic and making us work on unrelated exercises and rarely ever talking about assignments. It is supposed to be an intro to uni writing, but it felt like she already expected us to know everything in the textbook. Tough grader.
Always seems to be off-topic and when she does "try" to teach she brings up the most random reference to the work. Basically have to teach yourself the concepts because there is no point in showing up to class.
Prabhjot understands that students have other courses and part-time jobs besides her class, which is nice. She tries to make the class atmosphere fun and comfortable, but she does go sort of off-topic during class. She's not good at responding to course messages and her instructions aren't always clear. My classmates and I were always confused.
She was a very confusing professor and a tough grader. She would always get mad at the smallest things like exchanging notes in class (silently) and say that we were distracting the rest of the class. She always gave low grades but doesnt realize she gave poor instructions. When I would ask about it, she only made it more confusing.
This is my second class with Dr. Parmar! She is very kind and understanding. If you are struggling it is important to go to office hours or to email her. If you participate in class you will be fine!
I found Dr. Parmar to be caring and supportive in a way that is hard to find in university. She is knowledgable in her field and pushes students to learn, and those who put in the effort will see the results.
She wants you to have read the entire book on the first day that youre discussing it. The syllabus is unclear on what needs to be read. She gives instructions for big projects the class before. No discussion on what to expect for midterm. She can be a bit rude sometimes. Only bright side is shes upbeat. Lectures are confusing & all over the place
She is absolutely lovely as a person, but as a prof she is very scattered. She pushed back many due dates inconveniencing students, goes off topic too much, and is unorganized. She is someone I would want to sit down and have a coffee & conversation with, but not someone I want to sit through a lecture of
Dr. Parmar is a great person, however her lectures are very dry, she takes forever to grad papers and assignments, she is a hard marker and she picks books that are unique, but can be a bore. Overall, I did not enjoy myself in this class and found that for an 100 level class, it was quite hard to get the marks I did
She made the content enjoyable. I feel like thiz class would be so dry but she did a good job making it interactive.
She is very unclear in her instructions. The first half of the semester is solely group work and discussion posts that randomly appear. The way she words things makes it difficult to understand what she expects of you. There were 3 books we read and lots of short poems which was nothing crazy but still a lot to read before each discussion post.
I dropped this course almost immediately after trying to decipher her 17-PAGE-LONG syllabus that was full of spelling errors and other mistakes. She didn't post any organized lectures, just hour-long, monotone voice-recordings. She expected us to post in the discussion board 4 days a week and if we didn't we wouldn't be qualified for the final exam
She does not respond to emails at all. Have had to call the school to speak to her because she does not reply to emails, The person on the other end said to report her to PASS. I would only recommend her to students who are okay doing all of their classwork by having to teach themselves everything.
If you email/course message Dr.Parmar; good luck getting a response. Lectures are very long and many times consist of her repeating herself. When she gives reading assignments she posts them the day of the due date w/mandatory questions to answer. It's difficult to find some of her work as she posts on different platforms.
It is extremely difficult to contact Dr.Parmar as she does not respond. She's a difficult marker and posts materials whenever and in different areas. Her class consists of lost of reading and responding to questions. She expects too much from students, and provides no feedback/help, and makes it difficult to access materials.
This was the most confusing online class I have ever had. She will post all the work and readings but it is very confusing and unclear what she wants students to do. Most of the time I was completely lost on what she was expecting. She always answered my emails though and was super helpful when I asked questions.
Dr. Parmar is, unfortunately, unorganized and places heavy expectations on her students. Her discussion board assignments require you to post and reply on very specific days throughout the week and her expectations for all assignments, minor or major, are very intensive. I would avoid taking a course with Parmar if possible!!!!
Did not appreciate her opinions and how she incorporates such into her lectures. Would not take again with her.
She is unbelievably confusing, both in her lectures and what her expectations are for assignments; she marks tough but never communicates what she wants... She always wasted half of the class moving us into different seating positions for group activities that no one understood. You won't learn anything, and you'll be frustrated the whole semester.
I don't like her class at all downright frustrating and confusing with unclear expectations and heavy workloads. She goes over her class time often and wastes her lectures discussing colonial India without going over coursework. The textbook is useless and only used for quizzes. The content in quizzes is barely reviewed in class.
She's not as bad as in some recent reviews, but she's not the best. What is expected of you as a student is highly confusing. It felt as if specific assignments would be assigned and just disappear from the criteria and the blackboard page. Her lectures were pretty useless, but the class time itself was important, as the in-class exercise's helped
She's a nice person, but her organization is atrocious. I (along with many other students) am still waiting for grades from months ago. I've messaged her many times asking about missing grades, and she completely ignored all those emails. I've gotten more recent work grade's back too, but it's as if she's intentionally ignoring the missing work.
Overall a nice person but a really tough grader. Projects, assignments, and more take weeks if not months to get grades and feedback. Feedback doesn't matter if you can't get it back in time for the next project. She's, not very tech-savvy so it was difficult to upload assignments or find where she put lectures and announcements. Heavy reading
FILM-312* I would not take a class with this professor ever again. The syllabus was never followed, she showed up late to class, and the grading made no sense.
Beware! Prabhjot was one of the worst professors I've had. I would ask for help and she would basically tell me to figure it out myself. She didn't respect students boundaries. I had to personally explain to her that I felt uncomfortable when she would do things.. All in all she was just a horrific professor.
I took an online course with this professor. She laid the course out in an extremely confusing manner, and course work was not easily available. The assignment consistency is all over the place so make sure you sign in every day. As an online course it is not flexible in anyway at all. She is slow to respond so any messages.
She is the worst professor I've ever had. She says she is a hard worker, but she doesn't reply to emails at all.
I wouldn't recommend Prof. Parmar to anyone. I HATED this class. She does not know how to work a computer and is very passive aggressive when responding to questions. She was not accessible outside of class and we have still not received our marks well into the next semester. She was out right rude and I feel like I learned nothing from this class.
Lasted 2 days in this course before dropping it. The syllabus was 18 pages long and the expectations were ridiculous. For ex. She expected us to complete 4 discussion board posts a week all at different times. And if you missed ANYTHING you did not qualify to write the final paper or the final exam. DO NOT take a class with this awful prof.
An inadequate professor is the nicest way i can say this. This course was supposed to be an easy course and an elective for me... but turned out to be a mess. She basically expected us to do everything ourselves for the tests/assignments she gave us.I honestly can't explain this in 350 words. DONT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Her final exam is very absurd. Gives you hints rather than tells you what book (we read 5) the prompts are from. Very high expectations and a weird grading structure. Weekly discussion posts and unrealistic standards also require a lot of time. I also rarely received marks in a prompt time. The only thing I will say is she is empathetic and kind.
Do NOT take this prof, she has horribly unrealistic expectations for her students. She required us to read FIVE books as well as read several different articles and also watch full length movies. Also expects us to post four separate dissections boards scattered throughout the week. Save yourself, do not take a class with her. Horribly stressful
English 105 from Prabhjot Parmar is a first-year course that is fairly easy for me. However, most first-year students who have not been marked by a university teacher for English may find this class challenging. FYI: she willing to help even if she's in a rush. Go to her office hours if your failing or wanting to improve an assignment! But she YAPS
She's not a bad person, but there were several assignments that she remarked about in passing and that would never be mentioned again, only for 80% of the class to end up with a zero because no one submitted them. Do not come into this class expecting to be taught anything at all about analysis. Marks based on her analysis.
She talks a lot and is very lecture heavy, she doesn't mark any assignments, her classes are sleepy; and the cherry on top, in the beginning of the semester I couldn't understand a word she was saying... it's almost the end of the semester and I only understand around 60-70% of what she is saying.
Professor Parmar's class was a mixed bag. Lectures were often unfocused, and expectations were confusing. However, attending class and using unstuck AI for study prep helped me get through the course.
Prabhjot is a wonderful professor! I often struggled with assignments in her class because I am the biggest procrastinator but she always marks everything very good. If you reach out to her she responds very quick and is very invested in ensuring her students pass her class! She is also very sweet. If you respect her, she respects you.
awful cringe
Couldn't understand most of what she was saying. got off topic a lot. Assignment outlines were unnecessarily long. Was always confused about requirements. Felt disrespected, would interrupt/dismiss questions or answers, despite encouraging engagement. Little-no feedback on work. There's too many things to sum up in 350 words. Would not recommend.
Super disorganized online class. Everyone in the class was so confused all the time. We didn't get our final papers back until about a month after the class ended and everything was marked super critically. She is not very helpful over email and honestly a little bit rude. There was way too many activities and group collaboration due every week.
Am I the only one who gets irritated by her fingers gestures like wt heck is that related to. Irritaing voice, accent and lectures. Boring class never ever take this professor
DO NOT take this prof. I don't think she knows what she's doing. Not helpful whatsoever and makes snarky comments. I've never been in a class full of people who had no idea what's going on and are struggling until I've taken her. Please find someone else and avoid at all cost! She's so fake too. Nice to you one moment and then talks about the next.
How do I sum up a semester full of utter chaos? Is disorganized, inaccessible outside of class, and then blames you for her incompetence. Can be rude and judgey, goes off on long unnecessary tangents. Slow grader, finally got back my final grade the day summer semester started. Cannot stress this enough: avoid at all costs. Nice person, awful prof!
Going against what she stated in the syllabus, I didn't get any grades back until 2 weeks AFTER the semester ended, I had no feedback to apply to my final paper. Instructions for assignments are 20 page (no joke) pdf documents. She seems to have a lot happening, this makes emailing her hard, lectures hard to understand, and the course disorganized.
Just to give you a realistic expectation for this class, from 1:00-1:20 we were given our fifth land acknowledgment rant, from 1:20-2:00 we spent going over one single assignment, just reading from her word doc which is posted to brightspace and from 2:00-2:50 we read from the book we had finished reading two weeks ago. Waste of time.
When this professor went on extended medical leave, she left no notes whatsoever to her substitute, and we had to teach our substitute the course for the first day. This wouldn't be as egregious if the leave were sudden and unexpected, but this is a surgery she needed done for almost a decade. Would also ramble about irrelevant materials.
Terrible. Do not take a class from this professor.
Such an awful experience, it's December, assignments submitted in October/November are still not marked. Middle of the semester she left for a planned surgery and left us with another awful professor. Class participation/attendance only worth 10% WITH LOTS of weekly long assignments! Almost impossible to contact her, never responds! just DON'T!
If you have any self respect don't take this class. Spends whole class on land acknowledgements and briefly talks about assignments that will be for marks. Be prepared for snarky comments even when asked to state your OWN opinion. Never marks on time but expects you to be done reading multiple novels in a short amount of time. Choose happiness 🙏.
