a great teacher
No Comments
hard grader
The best professor in the department. He should be an example for other professors.
He can't relate to people who are not as intelligent as he is and don't have the same lifeless dedication to parasites that he has. Smart but not a good teacher.
excellent teacher. knows his stuff always interesting. hard tests but very fair
he is a nice guy, but his tests are impossible. He expects alot from students
No Comments
good teacher, however he was more interested in the students analyzing the work then actually learning the work. expectations too high for a general bio 1 course
It is a really hard class. The tests seem impossible, but he gives alot of room to do well. You learn alot, but you definitely have to work hard. You can't slack off and mess around in his classes. He expects alot from students.
it is a professor's job to inspire and motivate his students to perform to their potential but not to demoralize and crush their aspirations in life. He should work on being truthful without being insensitive.
He is the Man! His class was very challenging but he was helpful and attentive to his students. He would actually set you aside and talk to you if he noticed that you were struggling. You just don't see that kind of care towards students all the time.
He is a great professor, very thorough in his lectures, but his tests are IMPOSSIBLE! You really do have to keep up with the class.. DO NOT SLACK OFF! Not a easy grader but gives you chances to pull up your grade. He is serious about BIO!
He was very detailed in his lectures although his tests are IMPOSSIBLE! He is overall a good professor, He knows his stuff! Play attention in class, take notes and READ READ READ!!! DON'T SLACK OFF !! TRUST ME!!! DOES ALSO ASSIGN EXTRA CREDIT PROBLEMS!
GENERAL BIOLOGY IS NOT THAT SERIOUS PATNAIK!!!
HORIBBLEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
VERY TOUGH AND HIS TEST ARE HARD AS THEY COME
he thinks that your are biologists, and really hard, especially on the tests. exam one is like 4 pgs long and can get yp to 300 points on the exam , you need 230 to pass. sucks big time, made me change my major!! dont take please.
DR PATNAIK, PLEASE HAVE MERCY WE ARE NOT REAL BIOLOGISTS. TAKE IT EASY AND MAYBE STUDENTS WILL TAKE UR CLASS. WANNA FAIL, TAKE HIS CLASS. HORRIBLE MADE ME CHANGE MAJORS. VAIL, CHASNEY AND RISLEY HELP THIS GUY PLEASE!!
C'mon!! you're absolutely retarded!! If you're not a biologist you at the very least aspire to know basic bioology!? Get off the bowl and in the books jackass!! Patnaik is one of the few instructors at WPU that really enforces his/her curriculum. I've learned alot!! Take his class and learn!!!
If you're a lazy victim like so many of the students at WP; dont take him! An absolutely superb educator! Poses questions in an interesting and interactive fashion. He demands demands the utmost understanding of the material. He spent over an hour with me on a few occasions leading up to his midterm and final. Very helpful!

LET ME BE HONEST. THIS CLASS IS HARD, BUT IF YOU STUDY THE NOTES AND GO TO EVERY CLASS, MOST LIKELY YOU WILL PASS. BUT HE IS VERY GOOD TEACHER, KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. MOST IMPORTANTLY HE IS EXTREMLY HELPFUL ( if you have any question or problems)AND ENTHUSIASTIC. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT IN THIS CLASS EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN GENTICS.
Another great experience; learned a ton. Patnaik is dedicated, enthusiastic, and extremely bright. Tests are all essay, and again, demand thorough understanding. Victims beware! Not a class for the lazy and disinterested. Dr. Patnaik is an asset for the university and for anyone aspiring a career in Biology. I highly recommend.
the class is really hard, but the professor is awsome favorite professor at william paterson, makes genetics very interesting.
This class wa a nightmare, however Dr. Patnaik made it interesting I thank him for inspiring me to want to do better.
Dr. Patnaik is so helpful, nice, and funny at times. In order to do good, you really have to listen to him and study regularly. Genetics is a tough class in general, so get your game on. Essay exams, pop quizzes, and homework.
Personally, I do not like this professor. He refuses to help me and his exams are the devil. If you don't read the book ALL the time and study frequently, you'll have a hard time passing his class. However, he is very passionate about the subject matter.
He is a very hard teacher but i like him. He makes his classes interesting. If u study what he gives u and read You can do good. He also gives extra points on tests.
His lessons are crystal clear, to pass you have to have a very good understanding of the material. Memorize all you want, it won't do any good in this class. He is also very willing to help if anything isn't clear. Go to class, listen and go over your notes.
To pass you have to have the deepest molecular understanding of the material. It's not a class for the lazy. This professor is great. He gives you your money's worth. One of the few professors that actually cares that you learn the material.
He really shouldn't teach on a freshmen level but my, he does expect a lot from his students. Very smart professor, but you have to be really focused and be prepared for quizzes in which you have to explain to the fullest.
great professor. learn a lot.his class is by no means easy. You have to go to lectures, take notes, review your notes and read the textbook. if you read over your notes from class you'll have no problem with the pop quizzes. he's in his office a lot and is more than willing to answer questions. study and take advantage of any extra points he offers.
this is by far the most interesting class i ever had. i hated it at first but loved it later. i can still explain wot i learned. he is the best bio prof. in willy p. his exams may be alil challenging but if you read the bk vs. his notes, u will be good. he gives pts for going to sci enrichment center..I WLD DEF TAKE HIM AGAIN
hes an awesome teacher! He is great at explaining things. Loves what he does. His is kinda hard tho u def have to study. But no hw and he barley counts the quizzes he gives.
Very good teacher...infect the best.
Get ready for a great performance. He will take you down to the molecular level and give you the full tour de DNA. Brace yourself and get ready to learn. We are all in debt to him as hes one of the only professors preventing clowns from potentially being your doctor one day. Fear not-hes always willing to passionately help those who seek it.
this class was hard but if u read the book before lecture then u shud have a better understanding of what he's teaching. he's a great professor, gets a little excited at times, but u gotta put in a lot of work to pass with a B
Very...very.....very....difficult. One of the harder teachers to pass with but it is worth it. I didn't even pass the class and I give this guy a good rating. Should teach a more difficult class though, like his Genetics class. Difficult but worth it.
Very in depth with all teachings. Sometimes hard to understand but always took questions to help you do so.
I dont like his quizes and exams not helpfull. Have some courtesy please.
Dr Patnaik -one of the most talented professor in WPU.He is extremely helpful who has thorogh knowledge of his subject. I wish all of our professors would be like him...
If you are looking for an incredibly difficult but incredibly interesting class, take him. Also teaches Genetics (has a SIXTY percent DROP rate). Very difficult but completely worth it. Just don't take him if you are not prepared to study your a** off (I don't recommend him for Freshmen, that is all). Class was cut in half after the first test.
very nice man. but very very hard. i failed.
He teaches really well and there are a lot of things to be learned. However, his tests are extremely in dept and hard. About 33% of my class failed on his first test and only 1 person got an A with a curve.
Extremely difficult. His tests are very in depth. Its not a multiple choice type of Testing, more like essay written. gives out plenty of homework which is graded very harshly.Takes away alot of point from small mistakes.Be prepared to study a lot and understand the material. Great teacher though, he really explains things well with his analogies.
He is very nice and teaches very well but his exam is very difficult and you need to study very well and answer the questions in detail.
nice guy .knows his Material BUT expects A LOT from students. If you are not a Bio Major take someone else. IF you do take him . make sure you understand everything. His Test are not about Materials and concepts they are knowing how these concepts interact and how much you understand.
He worries that the students at WPU would not be able to compete with other students from other institutions if he makes the exams less harder. But, at least with less harder exams, more bio students would graduate with okay GPA. The expectations should be lowered a little. But, he teaches well and knows his subject very well.
Honors Bio. This was absolutely the most demanding course I've ever taken. I dumped so much time into this class and SOMEHOW got an A. Patnaik is an awesome teacher, but he goes in to excruciating depth. There is so, SO much content. You CANNOT miss a single class, and his tests are BRUTAL. I'm no Biology major, but you should be if ur taking this.
This guy is tough, his exams are all essays, but man is he passionate and knows his stuff. You can't slack off at all here, but you will come out with a solid foundation in genetics. I love him!
This man is the best teacher. The best thing about him is that he repeats things several times. He gives you time to write after ur done listening. Concepts are revisited so mastery is attained. Exams are all essay. Check out the readings on blackboard. Everything is cumulative. no homework, but there are some written assignments for lab.
Seriously the best professor I've ever had my entire 4 years of college. He is crystal clear with every tiny bit of information he wants you to know. Don't bother reading the book. Just make sure to keep NEAT notes. The key is to rewrite your notes/drawings and keep them organized, short and understandable. 50% of the class failed so stay on ur toes

He was the best professor I have ever had. He was motivating and made me want to learn. He took an interesting in every student and wants everyone to do well. He is the best.
I've never had a better professor/teacher in my life. He made me want to go home and read my textbook. I actually enjoyed studying for his tests - and I was your average stubborn-as-hell procrastinator. He opened a lot of mental doors for me. He doesn't only teach, but provokes curiosity and passion. Take him. He is the man.
love him! very fair very clear.everything he teaches in class could be on the test so record the class! take good notes cause it all comes from what he teaches. wants you to understand the material so his test are written and he expects you to understand the concepts. pay attention, and write good notes and youll have everything you need to get an A
Professor Patnaik is the best professor ever! Has a deep passion for his field and knows it very well. He has a picture in his head and wants you to visualize it. Will answer any questions you may have. Need to study and study hard, there's no way around it. Read chapter, Sec, and youtube will help you immensely.
Great Professor! It's a notoriously tough class, so be prepared to work. Record his lectures (he covers a lot in one class) and go to the SEC and form a good study group, that helped a lot. He's always willing to answer any question you may have and genuinely wants to see his students learn and succeed. He is an amazing professor!!
Genetics is hard, but Pradeep is the best! Everyone says A's are impossible in his class, but take it from someone who got above 100 on all 3 exams, A's are possible if you record and listen to the lectures, go to HIS SEC sessions, and study in a group. Buy a four color pen and draw all the diagrams, don't miss class. Great teacher and human being
Omg he is amazing!!! Best bio professor ever! Wish he could teach every bio course!
This man is so passionate & wants you to be too. His tests are different than anything I've had before. Getting an A is scarce since he runs all his classes like graduate courses. I appreciate the depth he went into for genetics because it will only help for molecular bio. He likes when you can explain something fully on the test, very long essays.
Had Patnaik for genetics. Don't bother buying the text book because doesn't use it at all. Instead record his lectures and treat them like the text. Very challenging course but he makes it so interesting and really wants to see you do well. He is a great teacher.
BEST PROFESSOR BY FAR. Dont take him if you are lazy though- he does not spoon feed anyone and will make you earn every single point you get. Extremely passionate about what he teaches which makes it easy to follow. Will make you fall in love with genetics even if at first you dont like it. LOVED HIM! Keeping in mind his tests are VERY challenging.
you cannot get an A with this professor. 1st day of class , will discourage you! if you care for your GPA , this professor is not considerate at all. He is aware that his class is is failing but he will not make his way to help you pass. i dont know what he wants to prove. He is not the kind of professor that when you fail the first exam will giv
Patnaik is an incredible professor if you are willing to put in the hours. Passing this class will be difficult if you are taking other demanding courses! The key to doing well is attending class, recording the lectures and writing down EVERY WORD he says, esp when he relates the topic to current research, that's what the exams will ask. Nice Guy.
Deep Indian Accent! Loud during his lecture hoping to make you understand but sometimes really doesnt have anything related to the subject! Discourages you the very first week of class instead of encouraging you as a professor.. heavy lecture but has knowledge of the subject... loves his job... overall would not take him over but you can try him
Don't take this class! He's aware that his class is failing and does nothing to help with that. His quizzes/exams are DIFFICULT and there's only three of them and forget about extra credit. I was lost in almost every lecture he taught no matter how much I paid attention, asked questions, and received extra help. I had to switch my major after him!
Repeats things, lectures and handwriting is clear, records the lectures and uploads to BB. Be prepared to work hard for your grades though bc he wants full detailed answers in his quizzes and exams.
Amazing professor he is Unbelievably smart! Although Tough grader and lecture heavy, he has a thick accent but records every lecture and posts to BB. Everyone fails, just make sure you STUDY, and KNOW your stuff and you'll get an A. 3 exams and lots of quizzes which are All Application based! Minimal homework, only extra credit for going to SEC.
He is really a great professor. He really knows what he is talking about and is very clear about what he explains. You need to attend class because he covers LOTS of material for each lecture. He encourages everyone to study the material and gives quizzes once a week. He also lowers his grading process by making a 60 a C-. I highly recommend him.
Patnaik is a great professor. He is tougher than other bio professors and isn't going to just hand you an A but he is very passionate and wants his students to do good. Its all about the studying and going to him so you truly understand the information! I bombed the first exam and then went to see him and studied and ended with a B in the class!
Dr. Patnaik was one of the best profs I've ever had, but also the toughest class I've taken. Go to EVERY lecture, record EVERY lecture, read the textbook, watch YT videos, and study ahead. This isn't a class that you can study last minute. Trust me, as someone who studied last second for Chem, Physics, and even OChem, it won't work with this class
More difficult than necessary. Recommend you take someone else for Bio classes. If you do take him, there's prob going to be many times you'll regret it. More detail oriented than needed and can be overly demanding in what you need to know.
Loved him so much for Genetics that I took molecular biology-an upper level, mixed grad/undergrad biotech class unnecessarily. Fantastic teacher who really cares about developing true understanding and application of topics. Challenging: reading lots of primary literature papers BUT grade is almost all participation based. Hard work but rewarding!!
AMAZING TEACHER! Wants everyone to understand the material but won't give easy A. Went in thinking I would hate genetics and came out loving it!! Extra credit for going to the SEC, tutors are amazing help! Went all semester even though I didn't need it. Grades in your favor- did very bad on quizzes, okay on group work but still got As on tests
He is a great teacher and always welcomes extra help. You get what you put in. This class is definitely one you need to diligently study for. I took him in Biology Honors, he's a tough grader on us honors, not so sure about general.
Dr. Patnaik is a gentleman and a scholar. In Genetics 1 he aims to show you how to think like a scientist. If you put the work in, you will be rewarded.
Dr. Patnaik is literally one of the best professors WPU has. He goes in depth over the material and will expect you to write every single detail for the open ended questions. He is really passionate about what he teaches, which will make the class interesting. He records every lecture and gives up to 3 points extra credit per exam.
I had Patnaik for lab and this class was harder then my lec class. There was a quiz every week w/ 7 questions. If u got 1 question wrong it was automatically like an 83. Then 2 was like a 64. Bc of COVID, the midterm and final were online. He only gave us 45 mins for 20 opened ended questions. It was awful. The average was like a 30.
Do not waste your time with him. But if you want to fail, you can take his class.
If you want to take tests every week, here you go... It is definitely not fair .. You have to answer 6-7 open-ended questions in 15-20 minutes. I think this professor is more difficult than necessary. Do yourself a favor and don't choose this professor. Trust me, you won't regret.
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR unless you absolutely have to!! He definitely needs to empathize with the students. It doesn't need to be that difficult. I absolutely regret that I chose his class.
Attendance is mandatory. You need to be in class on time! EVERYTHING IS SO CONFUSING...
Just run away! This has to be the worst professor ever. THIS PROFESSOR DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. He knows his subject, but he cannot teach.
He's pretty terrible. Not much more to say than that. This guy is a terrible professor. Your GPA will get screwed over if you take this class.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who hated him. There are so many better teachers at WPU!
He's a hard professor. That is true. He's retiring after SPRING 2021, but I think WPU will be less without him. He is a genius in genetics and he tries hard to help you understand the complex subject. Ppl hate him because he is a tough grader and you can't chegg the course. You have to listen to lectures and think like a scientist. I wish him well.
The class has a highest grade of no more than a C+ on exams.
Difficult and condescending! Avoid him if you can!!!
DEEP INDIAN ACCENT... I was trying to take notes and understand him but it was really hard. I dropped his class because of his accent.
Stay away...
