2 really hard tests. knowing the concepts isn't enough, expects you to be able to describe it in detail with technical terminology. most of your grade comes from the marketing presentation project though. calculates your grade with the bell curve thing. goes into details during lectures, tends to drag on about them until you forget the point though
I like how she teaches the class in power point presentation, and it's quite easy class, she's cool, I got an easy "A". Just do what she say and attend the class you'll be good.
She is an easy professor. All the way through the semester I had been thinking I did preetty bad but got an A. And she is rally helpful. Highly recommended.
worst professor. super boring, hard tests. way too much work for this class! STAY AWAY! unless you want to do lots of work and like the challenge, do not take her!
not bad....sometimes boring but the tests arent too bad and the project is pretty easy. just use her powerpoints and you will be finee
She's just okay. Asks very detailed questions on the tests. If better professors out there, go for them. She shouldn't be your first choice.
2 tests that required alot of examples 10-15 mc 5-6 short essays. 1 case study 2 group project. choice assignment is not in the book, rely mostly on ppt. final group project need to have 15 pages report. it sux when ur group members dont do anyworkS!
she is a nice teacher, kind of boring. The tests are hard, and there is only 2 of them. But what makes it really bad is the group projects which are hard to do when you have a bad group... if you have other choice don't take this professor
Great professor. Worked in MKT so she provides real world examples. If you pay attention to her PP slides you wont need textbook. I got an A and didn't have to try too hard. Participation in class will bump up your grade.
If you like sucking up to professors, she is definitely one you'd love. 2 exams are hard, she doesn't curve, group project she expects a lot from you. She is very insulting and always boring
Rude, gives unorganized lectures, no reviews, unspecified questions on exams, and way too much work: huge group project, group assignment, case study (did not graded till end of the semester), midterm and final (some multiply choice, some open questions).
uses real world examples in lectures which is great but is the most unorganized and unresponsive teacher ever. 3 weeks later and exam grades are still not back for a multiple choice scantron test! happened twice
I have to agree with just about every other review on this professor. She makes you buy this expensive book she hardly uses, her notes are repetitive, she's not very organized, takes very long to respond to emails (if at all), doesn't make the class interesting, and in sometimes not so subtle ways makes you feel like an idiot for asking a question.
She's the worst professor I've ever had. Please AVOID HER!! I bet there are better marketing professors at Baruch.
I wish I had taken another professor for such a fun topick
All the powerpoints will upload to blackboard so no need to read textbook. There is 1 group project, strong suggested to pick good people. 2 exams, don't listen to her about "not a test of memory". It is not true, remember her lesson and take note. Take another professor, she is boring but easy
Two exams-midterm and final. Cumulative final. Slow responses to emails. Big group project-take this class w/ people you know. Confusing powerpoints. Not a good professor, very boring.
I'd recommend not taking this class with Mathur. She is very boring to listen to and her power points are about 50 slides per chapter (repetitive and useless information). She puts about 8-9 chapters on the midterm, and same for final. Half the class sleeps. The project was not even fun or interesting to do and this is marketing class!
Use textbook and listen to her lectures! some questions are from her lectures. she provides many examples in her lectures so she helped me clarify some stuff i didn't understand. overall, ok professor but you have to work hard!
I got to say just study the slides first than the text book. I failed to study for the first exam got an 80 and than I started to study and got 90's and above. She gives one drop and I dropped the final which was a bad decision. Could have gotten an A. For recitation make sure your on top of your group and the paper.
This teacher is so unhelpful she doesn't answer emails nor is clear in class.75% of the class sleep during the lectures and if I had to do it again I would wait a semester to take business 1000 rather than take pragya mathur
Her class IS very boring and not helpful. 75% of your grade are exams, so basically if you are not a good test taker, well good luck then. She goes fast in class, people sleep, and most info are useless. My advice is to not take her.
She goes by too fast in class. Super boring, no one pays attention. Her tests are so tricky because they focus on the smallest detail. I prefer understanding the bigger concepts which I had to start remembering the littlest detail. she does this to make sure you're paying attention in class. just study her slides! 4 exams, 4 excel projects (easy)
She speeds through the lessons. Her exams are hard. DO NOT TAKE HER. Search for another business professor. Anyone but her.
I would avoid taking this class with her. The course material is incredibly simple but she structures her exams so that she ends up with a bell curve. She tests you on minute details that are pretty much useless in the grand-scope of the class. That being said, with recitation and excel, it isn't difficult to get over a B.
Worst professor ever, study ever little detail on slides or you will fail. Would not recommend, this lady is definitely not #Turntup
Horrible professor. Annoying, treats every single student like a child. Borderline disrespectful. Unrealistic about cramming material. Tricky test questions. Also has inaccurate information on slides, tests you on her slides, the book, and whatever she randomly speaks about. Take anyone else if it's possible for you. Seriously.
4MC tests/ non cumulative, drops the lowest one, test questions are TRICKY, remember small details, rem definitions from txtbook, memorize her examples from lectures, I suggest taking another prof, INTRO to BUS should be a easy class, her class was pretty hard
I really don't get all the bad reviews for her. She's nice enough, the tests are super simple, AND she drops the lowest one. She does do this weird thing for participation where she has a grad student sit there and take people's names, but it's not that big a deal. Either way, ignore the bad reviews, take her, it'll be a pretty low stress class.
You wont pass without showing up since class is based on her lectures as well as textbook
Professor Pragya Mathur's class was really fun. I had to take the class because of my transfer credits and it was actually a good thing because she made everything very interesting. You have to listen to her examples because she puts them in the exam. She is very helpful too. She answered all my questions and clarified things.
she is amazing. study the material well and focus during the lecture. Most of the questions on the exam comes from the lecture. If you have any outside problems effecting your grade share with her. don't be late on the exam day. Be a good student and she will remember your namenickname even if there is 200 students in the hall.
If you're not into the subjects she discusses, it's pretty boring. A few things I found odd considering this is college is that she makes you sign in and out to use the bathroom, even though theres 200+ students. You also had to scan your ID card to take attendance. It's a pretty standard class. Tests are simple if you study.
Very good - I did well in my third exam and still asked her so many things and she explained everything clearly. Took a lot of time. She is great. I don't like that management stuff but she is making it fun and has great examples. she also encouraged us to read business press and I can see the connection with things from class.
Really like Prof Mathur - she is helpful, EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE, and really knows her stuff in and out. Her examples in class really make us think - I have been discussing with others too. I usually don't rate my profs but I just didn't get her earler ratings and I feel like someone should rate her correctly. She is great. Take her class.
Overall, so far, so good. I agree with the earlier that she is very knowledgeable and seems to know everything. She said she worked before this so it makes sense, but she is a Marketing professor and she knows all the stuff about bonds, stock market and all that. She explains everything clearly. Overall, take Prof Mathur.
Overall she is a good Prof Very clear, knows her stuff When giving the lecture she can sometimes side track in an example & expect students to remember most of that story (example) cause it will definitely appear in the test
Professor Pragya mathur is awesome. She was so attentive and there were 200 or like 250 of us in the class. can't believe that she could remember names and specific things about the students. i agree that she really knows her stuff. she is one of the few profs I will definitely take again at baruch. she was always responding to emails and stuff too
Good prof. I agree, I wasn't expecting how good she would be and she was impressive with everything she knows. she really took time to explain the stuff that was difficult. she posted her stuff on bb the night before every single time so i could really keep up in class. she is really WEll organized and pays attention. she has a million examples too
Good prof - class was not easy, but not bad either. She makes things very clear and i knew what was expected of me. She shows up for exams with an army of assistants and still walks around! she was great throughout the semester and really taught clearly. i agree, take .prof pragya mathur. i'm taking her class in spring too.
Very good professor. Knows her stuff and makes grading criteria very clear. Read the text, but pay attention to her class notes. Not a big deal - she posts them so you have them. She cares about class attendance, lateness, and participation. Her assistant keeps a tally, so you get the credit for it. I'd recommend prof mathur. Fair and solid prof.
Very good Prof. She was clear, takes time to make sure everyone gets what she is discussing. The class has 4 topics, and each topic has tests, but she drops the lowest test - big help. Attendance matters. Not a very easy class, but not impossible either. I think she tries to make it interesting with examples. good prof and i would recommend her.
Class has four modules, but no exam is cumulative, so not a huge load. if the subject interests you, class is fun, but some topics are boring. Professor is good. She takes her time and explains everything very clearly. Great interesting examples. Exams are ok, you need to study, cant just show up. take the class and take this prof
She is so boring. There are 3 tests and a final. Tests are mostly on the powerpoint material which she does post on blackboard. Textbook is required but not too much is on the test. You can pass without it. She takes too long to respond to e-mails and there's usually a mistake on each test which she doesn't notice until someone points it out. Easy.
The professor is nice and helpful. She is very clear about what is expected and explains things, posts grades very quickly. The course has 4 parts, so it is like taking 4 different modules and they are not cumulative. It is a required at Baruch. You have to have an ID that can scan, & she has someone sit ad record lateness and if you leave class.
Good class. Introduction to basic business stuff. The professor is great, very clear, and explains everything. Not an easy A, but she makes grading clear and her syllabus and schedule is fixed from first class. You have a recitation professor too, but he won't matter much. Prof Mathur is the main prof and she decides final grades.
She's not boring, the material itself is dry and she does her best to keep it interesting. The tests are mostly out of the textbook. Very few Q's are from her lecture. This class is EASY. It's an Intro course. If you you fail this, you're not cut out for college. Plain and Simple.
We just started, but she was already so helpful to me. Saved my class & helped me register even though I was waitlisted. Very helpful. Met me and told me everything i missed, explained everything. really well. I was lost coz of the online part, but now very clear. I'm glad i waited for her class. looking forward to a fun semester with prof mathur.
Helpful and very clear Professor. Class has an online section and big group project. She is very clear and communicates everything well in advance. She provides a lot of examples, but she keeps saying that she will put this on quizzes. She also says that is paper free, whatever that means. Summary: Good, fun, professor - class is good.
Good professor. Very clear and familiar. Responds very quickly to any help or questions. Class has a project, two exams, and a few assignments. There is online content for the hybrid part. Meets once a week. There is a lot of reading, but you can do it at your own pacetime. Great class. Not my major but still really enjoying it.
professor pragya mathur is awesome. Its the first time I took a hybrid half online class and its funny that i look forward to her class! She makes the class with a lot of interaction and group work. there is so much of reading, and the online software costs money. The group project is great and she gives useful feedback. enjoying the class and prof
GREAT prof. very helpful. The class is not easy and not tough. it is once a week with online reading and assignments, which is really can be managed. i will take more of these kind of classes. She gives two exams, project, class presentation. Her classes are fun and very interesting and she has really great examples. I like the way she teaches,
Good class. Prof makes it interesting & fun. She teaches so that everyone in the class can get it - examples, videos and everything from current marketing things. She is also very helpful. The class has an online section. Costs $80 for the whole semester, mandatory. I'm thinking of changing my major to Marketing & will take prof mathur again.
Prof. Mathur is a fun, nice person and she really seems to care about whether we learned anything. I really like the way she teaches and the only thing bad I have to say about her is that she is not teaching anything else I can take until I graduate! Her classes are very lively and interesting and I really enjoy them. She manages the groups well.
Prof. Pragya was good, to the point, kept classes very interesting, and kept an eye on the group projects throughout the semester. She makes you work, I can say that, but she is also very diligent and committed and you can see that. I made the extra effort in her class and I got an A, but she made me work for it, and I'm Ok with that.
So far so good. She keeps the motivation going, a lot of examples, a lot of enthusiasm. Hybrid, so, be ready to spend big bucks on her online textbook software, but its a good reading material. Group projects seem interesting and I agree that she keeps track of them.
Motivated professor and helpful. Course is half online, online software is a must buy. She assigns readings online, so a lot of reading, but her classes are fun. As from before, examples, and group activity, and everything is done to make us learn. Not like just do it to finish it. Enjoying the class.
Great class. Hybrid - many classes like that at Baruch. Mathur is very good. The in-class sessions are great, rapid learning, interaction. But online is heavy work, and software keeps track of how many minutes you spend. The prof puts it in your grade, so don't take online part lightly. Exams are easy, but very applied, so have to study. Good class
Professor Mathur is excellent and she knows what she is doing. Keeps the pace really high from beginning and she expects a lot of work during the semester but paces it well. Class project is interesting, but she could maybe provide more feedback before the final presentation. One of best classes I have taken and I will take her again.
Marketing consisted of the online part and the class sessions, so it was a hybrid. Professor was very enthusiastic and I could tell she really wanted us to love marketing! I am not a major, but enjoyed learning concepts, I liked the group project alot. Prof was a stickler for class rules but we all had great discussions. I recommend class & prof.
I loved Prof Mathur! Best class I have taken so far at Baruch (rising Junior). She runs it with online and in-class and sticks to everything she says. Group project can be a little hard because no one responds, but Prof gives us good feedback and keeps it going. Quizzes are not hard, but a lot of reading online! I really recommend the Professor!
Prof Pragya is a really nice prof, and one of best at Baruch. She gave me good feedback through the class. This is my third hybrid, but her's was the most engaged because she makes you read, but has great discussions in class. I will be taking her class again and may shift my major to marketing if I like her next class as much.
She doesn't reply to emails and she doesn't give you feedback on your final presentation. If anything happens outside of class, welp, that's not her problem.
She's one of those ppl where you can be wrong but just tell her what she wants to hear and she'll love you :/ She is very meticulous about the case study and group project presentations. Make sure you take her seriously tho b/c she can come across like you don't have to. This class wasn't easy yet it wasn't difficult either.
I agree about her being very nice but yes, I also agree that you have to take her seriously because she is very nice but business like and she remembers stuff. She is very enthusiastic and wants everyone to love love marketing, which can be tiring sometimes but better than profs who dont care for sure. Her class is fun, a lot of work though.
All you have to do is make sure you study for the tests!!! There are two, and also work really hard on your project which is spilt into three parts. She is not someone to mess with.
Passionate in lecture and has high expectations for assignments. Connect HW and online exams. But she demands a lot paperwork for group project i.e. pre-final paper with research. Also has terrible syllabus schedule expecting us to do 8 chapters in 2 weeks while working on final paper over spring break. Would not recommend for people with busy life
For group projects make sure to work with people who actually participate. Its not fair to rely on someone else to take on more workload and yet recieve a grade they did not work for.
She's one of the best I've had. very nice, thoughtful, and demanding. I love marketing after taking her class. The usual stuff for a Hybrid - 2 exams and online assignments, but her add-on is that she makes classes interesting and fun, and u don't think you're learning but you just did! I will definitely take her classes again.
She's a good professor but she wants so much from the students in terms of the workload; from the big project, the mini project, which are both group, the online homework and two exams. And if the big project doesn't impress her enough you can kiss that A grade goodbye!
Theres a lot of group work for this class. She lets u choose ur groups on the first day so u have to pray u pick the right people to work with. There 2 presentations, 2 exams and a lot of group work for the project. She doesnt curve anything. Make sure u dont make any grammar mistakes on the group paper because she will take ALOT of points off
You pick your group first day, good luck. 2 group presentations, one small worth 5% and one that takes the entire semester. 2 Tests, TONS of online homework and quizzes due at ridiculous times. Yes - partial online course, but she has 2- 3 chapters due a week so we used the entire TB and honestly it was all the same info! Look for a diff MKT course
Decent teacher, have to put in a lot of work outside the class. 2 Group projects, 1 takes a lot of work. Online tests
She's an okay professor. Her assignments are vague which makes it hard to do. On top of that make sure you pick a reliable group for the project especially since it is 25% of your grade. It is a pain to deal with someone who doesn't answer or contribute whatsoever. But other than that the class is straight forward and easy if you put the time in.
If you have no job or other classes then take her because doing her work takes the time of four classes. If you have a bad group then good luck for the rest of the semester! Her exams are barely anything discussed in class! Regretted :/
do not take her class.
learn by yourself with her quide mostly. i took mkt300 in summer. quick, clear grade and not stress at all. hw and hw practice and group work and 2 exam all good.
Good luck with the people you get for the group work. Other than that, really nice lady and interesting lectures. Graded on connect work and two exams. Participate when you can and it's a breeze.
Prof mathur is good. Not a bad lecturer, crammed into 5 weeks wasnt bad either. Attendance 5%, Online Hw 15%, in-class team assignment/discussion 10%, Marketing Plan (project made up of proposal 5%, update 10%, presentation 15%) = 30%, Exam 1 20%, exam 2 20%. Relatively low stress class, would have considered taking in winter it was that low stress
Don't know why some reviews about MKT 3605 are negative. The workload was really standard or even less than average for a MKT class, and Prof Mathur is very organized, fair, and gives clear feedback. The project was not that much work because you're in a group of 10 writing a
Professor Mathur seems to have good intentions but is too busy for her students. She is nearly impossible to reach outside of class/never responds to emails.
We were given a ten-person group project which, in itself, was very difficult to navigate. We had to keep her after class in order to even get a response because she very rarely responded to our emails.
Knowledgeable, but surprisingly incapable of conducting class in a clear manner. Had a 10 person group project and was not receptive to criticism of this. Very unclear grading standards. Bad time management. Didn't upload assignments/grades when she said she would. Avoid her class.
Has lots of experience in the marketing industry but is unfortunately not a good person when it comes to time management. Had no idea what my grade would be until the very last day when the grades were submitted. Mandatory attendance, group project for the entire semester. Class material are crammed into 5 weeks.
NEVER RESPONDS TO EMAILS!
Groups of TEN, your group project is 40% of your grade, and she's a harsh grader. I had excellent participation, perfect attendance, and got 100 & 95 on the midterm and final, yet somehow I ended up with a B+, which killed my 4.0. The grade she gave me doesn't match the numbers I came up with, but she ignored my emails. Avoid.
Don't waste your time. Oh and she never responds to emails!!
The most rude and unempathetic professor at Baruch. Do not waste time taking this professor she does not care about you or your grades and cannot bother to get back to her students email. No idea how she is able to be a professor let alone manage the department.
If you care a lot about your GPA, just don't take her. The group work include too much people, so the grade is not that good. 2 Exams, she did not set the quetion in a correct way(some repeat question) some answer did not make sense, the system did not come up well of the result, she did not care about your grade, just add 2-3 points on the grade.
The professor didn't reply to a single email throughout the entire semester and went back on her word frequently—also, a harsh grader who doesn't believe in 100s.
