Emotional, Subjective... But can teach you how to think better.
A very tough but helpful teacher if you meet him one on one.

Takes time to get used to his style, but in the end things work our well.
not a bad teacher, entertaining, challenging
He is a fun teacher but very unfair, when yougo to him one on one he is rude and not helpful at all.
hard hard hard

SO funny!!! I didn't find him hard at all, from what I hear he's one of the easier English 205 teachers. He is such an entertaining teacher!

Funniest teacher ever. I loved the class. I've never outright laughed out loud in the middle of class like he made me do everyday. Totally reccomended
Alot of people like him, and he is funny, but he's very strict. He's one of those instructors where you HAVE to come to class and do the work on time (as opposed to some instructors who don't care). Not a hard class, only 4 essays and a few short stories to read, but don't take him if you're just looking for an easy A.
Good teacher. May seem scary at first but funny. If you want feed back on your paper go to him during office hours. Dont go to him before class or after he gets irritated. As long as you put your two cents in during discussion then you'll stay on his good side. overall liked his class. work was average of a college eng. class
Hard grader...while I would get high A's in other classes on papers, he graded me low A's. I think people will do good as long as they show up, participate, come prepared, and don't insult him. He's not an easy teacher but argues that the real world isn't easy. He is hilarious.
Show up, do your homework (and do it well), and the class will go smoothly. He's pretty funny and interesting. He also provides plenty of feedback on the essays he returns. I took him for English 105 and liked him so much I enrolled in his Mythology class.
I had taken an English class with him and thought he was excellent. He makes you work hard, he is a hard grader, but in the end ones learns to see things differently. Very good at seeing things in texts that ordinarily would escape others.
I took him twice he's actually not that hard. He may seem scary at first in eng 105. but in world myth he's really easy. Likes to go off subject and bring it back some how it's weird. he does grade harder in eng 105 then in myth. i would take him agian if he i could overall good class
I took his myth class and English class simultaneously, and he was stricter in the English class. He is unusual, funny and a fabulous teacher. I wish he taught other lit. courses. He is very sharp and shows you how to interpret hard stuff.
Funny teacher, read the text and the class will go smoothly.
Good teaching
Teacher grades hard. May seem intimidating but has a great sense of humour and a very good teacher.
I am currently in his World Mythology class. I had a prior interest in mythology related subjects, however I feel as though even if I did not, he would still be able to keep my attention with it. He is a good speaker. I highly recommend taking HUM 108 with him.
Hes pretty funny and you want have a lot of homework but its super hard to get good grades on your essays
Took World Mythology from him fall quater. He presents the material well, but can be somewhat intimidating. On a personal level, I found him disrespectful and rude, and his grading is tough a frankly not suited for a 100 level class.
he may seem intimidating at first but if u show up do the readings and participate u will do great. took 2 classes from him and got A's. I would agree he grades harder than a 100 level class but it's college. like every other class in college show up do ur work and u will pass. However i have seen students contest grades and he doesn't sympathize
Not a class I would take for easy GPA points, but a great class to take if you want to learn. Will give firm grades and will help you, but you have to show up and keep up with the work.
Great teacher. Grades hard but if you show up to class and keep up with the work. You will do great. He is very funny.
You really have to beg for help to get any from this man. On a personal level I found him very entertaining and fun to have class with, but I honestly took nothing from his course. He did not teach, he rambled about things that were nowhere near relevant. Do not get on his bad side; he is not afraid to humiliate students in front of their peers.
he is totally into public humiliation. he is hard to talk to and doesnt care much who he offends.
Hmmm, sounds like someone failed - He'll call you out when deserved; he's old school/how it should be. He's not afraid to say what needs to be said, and you'll be better for it. He's not an easy A (oh my, have to work? what a concept!) You have to do you assign., reading and come to class - why wouldn't you, you're in college?! Great teacher
forget all the bs do not take his class and you will be better off!
This Instructor is an excellent teacher. Whether you like it or not, you'll learn a lot in his class. He will call you out for being rude, late, or lazy because he actually cares whether or not you learn. Stay on his good side by doing your work and participating in class. Ask scary, complex questions, you'll love the answers he comes up with!
Kumar is a great teacher, do not listen to anybody bad mouthing about him. He may be strict and his teaching style is different but if you participate in class every once in a while and visit him at his office to talk about your essays you will get the grade. He appreciates hard workers so do your work at your best you will get a 4.0 like I did.
got 4.0 for Eng100 and got 2.2 for paper 1(be4 revising) when studying Eng101 with him. I haven't completed this class so i donno what's my GPA in the end. But I highly recommend people to take his class. Teach you how to think better. He's extremely funny, emotional, unconventional. it will be a class that worth remembering in ur college years
Very humorous in class, but he does feel unapproachable. He is very strict on attendance, which was the most disappointing aspect, because he only really reviewed what we were reading. He makes it very clear what you have to do for assignments to get a good grade and even offers chances to rewrite for better credit. He does not humiliate people publicly.
Awesome teacher. will joke around often in class. only have to write 3 essays for the quarter (compared to 5+ with others) and you get to pick from 3-5 diff topics at least. He knows his stuff too. highly recommend.
i think ppl who badmouth this man have to ask themselves what lessons they expect their teachers to teach? To suck in everything straight from textbooks and get good grades? Then are we all better off?Kumar has a wide range of knowledge that give u answers for every questions, even questions he doesn't know. The biggest badass in Edcc.Great teacher
Prof. Kumar is set apart from the common instructor, in that he is able to see individual potential. He compels each student to understand and reach there individual potential. There can be no better characteristic for a true instructer to have. For those who can't understand that simple principle I say, "Fear the Kumar"
Kumar is a tough professor, no doubt. I wouldn't have it any other way, though. If we want to produce top students, we need more instructors like him. Even though I lost my cool once in class, his unshaking firmness dialed me back in, and I'll do better on the third class paper (I am hoping).
If you are looking for a dedicated teacher who can jump start your writing skills, motivate your learning, or increase your vocabulary, Mr. Kummar is the right professor. Even the laziest student learns in his class. Mr. Kummar's class is interesting and engaging with intensive reading and writing exercises. Mr. Kummar is the best.
I have had Kumar for Mythology and English 101. I received a 4.0 in both of these classes and learned more than I ever could have expected. Kumar pushes his students to thrive in the analyzation of texts, writing, and staying on a good schedule for homework. He is an inspiring man with ideas and a teaching style different from other professors.
I'm fine with a tough grader who teaches me a lot, but I truly feel I learned nothing from this class, despite being engaged and attending every class. He rambled through most lectures, and his critiques on essays were sometimes vague or contradictory. Although he is an entertaining person, I found the class frustrating to survive.
I want to be better than him
Great teacher, makes you work hard cause it college, tell super interesting stories made the class super fun. He like to mess with students that don't do their work. great teacher for intelligent people(the people who should be in college). he tells you the first day his nickname is gpa killer, its just to scare you.
Kumar was definitely not the easiest teacher ever, but he made you learn things. I pulled an A in his class because I worked hard and asked for help when I needed it. His comments sometimes didn't make sense, but if you asked him to clarify, he would gladly do so. Anyone taking 101 should take it with Kumar. Plus, you get bragging rights.
In the beginning of the quarter Kumar likes to scare students probably to filter out the ones that are looking for easy A's. After a week or so he eases out... His classroom discussions are interesting and he likes to make jokes. As long as you do all the work he assigns, you'll get a good grade.
I had Kumar for mythology. It's probably the most entertaining class you can take. He graded the papers easier than he does in his english classes since it's not an english course. He's a very funny, smart man. He had the class laughing all the time, and he made the subject fascinating.
I have Kumar for my summer Mythology class, and he's been one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's really good at making ancient myths understandable to a modern perspective, and class time is always very engaging. He's also very approachable outside of class, ready to answer questions or just further discuss the things we covered in class.
He won't tell u everything. U have to figure it out by urself. He inspires ppl to to do great things, to go beyond themselves, not like others who make u realize ur limitations n accept it as a fact. A true teacher. I bet ppl who complaint abt him will never get anywhere in life. If oneday, one of those losers does, come n take my $100
Doesnt help you, takes points off if you don't show up even if you do great at your assignments. terrible teacher overall.
If you have to leave class early, someone better be dead. When you leave early he gets butt hurt and says you don't take his class seriously. This happened to my friend, I was there, and he wouldn't let my friend say why he had to leave early.
I recomand Pranab Kumar as a great teacher. I took english and mythology courses, and I learned a lot from the class. I was 3.0 student in most courses, but I was 2.0 student in Kumar's class. Even though I got low grade from his class, I was very lucky to have him as my teacher.
If u want a prof who'll make u laugh like crazy and u will remember 4 the rest of ur life he's ur guy. If u want an ez class this ain't ur prof he grades tough. Can b aloof and unapproachable + strict but you'll enjoy class if U R not scared ****less of him. I didn't lrn much English but I learned some life lessons jst expct the unexpcted w/ Kumar
Kumar is a really funny guy who makes everyone laugh. His grading is very hard. It is really hard to get an A in his class. If you want a good grade i do not recommend him. Although he was a hard grader i did learn a lot from his class.
Kumar is an amazing teacher who is passionate about what he does and knows how to inspire students and push their limits. Can sometimes seem unapproachable outside of class, but overall a fantastic professor. His ability to make people laugh is effortless and he really knows how to engage his students. Anyone would be wise to take his class.
English 102 with Kumar was hard. The class requires a lot of reading from the three textbooks. He's really strict about format. Directions were unclear and hard to follow. I'm glad I have decent writing skills, otherwise I think I might have flunked. Take this class at your own risk.
3 essays w/ the last 1 written in class. These r worth 90% of your grade and the other 10% is Bb assignments. If u aren't good at essays u will struggle. HW load is lite but keep up on reading or feel his wrath! Grading is outrageously tough even 4 great writers. He doesn't baby anyone u must wrk hard 2 earn his respect. Fun prof but hard 2 talk 2.
Very good techer, I highly recommend his class for motivated students.
His directions r very unclear & confusing, tho he's a really funny smart man. Great lecturer! Not much HW, but he's a picky grader on essays so he'll kill ur GPA. There is a group project & ur grade is based in part on how ur group does. If ur group mates slack off, YOUR grade suffers. Take class 4 fun but not if u care about your grade.
I took AP English in high school and was expecting this course to be the same. It was not. I received a 4.0 on 2 of the 3 papers and since the 3rd was written in class I am unsure of the actual grade. I know I am a good writer, but know I am not the best. If you know your English skills are poor do NOT take this class!
Prof. Kumar is probably the funniest and easy going teacher you'll meet at Edmonds. He's very enthusiastic about his work and'll make you feel welcome, though he takes some getting used to. The texts I had were mercifully cheap and the reading is easy for pop quizzes. Be prepared for the 2 big papers for the class and lengthy final exam essays.
I found Prof. Kumar to be a very quirly lil dude. His sense of humor is a bit hard to understand but I loved it. He pokes fun at society in a very tongue in cheek manner. Personally I enjoyed his class very much..he does get sidelined very easily and goes off topic quite a bit. I found myself reeling him back in on several occasions. Thumbs up !
He is funny and can easily be steered of topic. Sometimes his humor can get in the way. Needs to use the blackboard grade book or make the grading policy clearer. Kumar is frequently late to class.
Professor Kumar is unique to say the least. He singled out one kid who was late the first day and was relentless. His sense of humour is edgy and his essay assignments are very difficult. Finding Conflict, irony..you will learn about this I promise you. He is politically incorrect but he always but he made me laugh. Tough Teacher for sure!!
Kumar gave me a 2.0 on my first paper which I spent three nights straight to proudly complete. The experience was like a hell, and I hated him at first. However, I somehow ended up going to his office hours and asking him for help.I revised my paper according to his advise, I got a 3.6 at the end and loved him. Kumar=frustration but Improvement
I loved Mr. Kumar. He has a style that really fits the real world. He is not afraid to speak his mind or call anyone out in class. He accepts all questions and sometimes we spend hours of class just talking about the world and life. I got a 4.0 on every essay and never missed a point because I put int he work needed.Do the same and youll be fine
I took this class four years ago when I was in running start. I am graduating from UW Business this summer and felt compelled to post this. Rarely have I come across a man who is as inspiring as Kumar.TAKE HIS CLASS and keep an open mind. What he teaches you will challenge what you believe, and make you re-evaluate your life for the better.
By far the BEST teacher I have ever had. He challenges you to be the very best you can be in class and in papers and is absolutely hilarious. I hated going to English until this year and taking Kumar's class. Work hard and it will pay off, and keep an open mind. His class is seriously phenomenal.
He was the best teacher and guide at Edmonds. He helped me improve my writing and as a result of his encourage I am now a student at an Ivy league school in the East coast. What more can I say.
I am a foreign student and was afraid of my English skills. I asked for help, and Professor Kumar helped me with my work and with building confidence in myself. I now attend an IVY league school, and I am very grateful for hard he word with me to help me get my dream. I will always remember him as a great teacher and person.
I took this class last fall quarter through running start, (I am now a freshman at WWU) and I must say, Kumar is by far the best professor I have ever had. He Politically Incorrect, witty, hilarious and very intelligent. I found myself ecstatic to go to class everyday. The class wasn't easy but he will work with you and easily help you do great.
Kumar is a great teacher. He's hilarious and he makes it fun. But he is a very hard grader which is good since he brings out the best in students. Definitely one of the best teachers i ever had.
His lectures in class can be very funny and entertaining, but he can get WAY off topic. He is also a very hard grader. If you don't have good writing skills before you take this class you will FAIL. If you are above average in writing and have a good grasp on grammar concepts, you should do fine. This is also a 2 hour class, so don't doze off! :)
lectures in class are super funny and entertaining, although he can be a little rude.He is a very hard grader.you should probably take a writing class or be above average in ur writing and grammar skills,if not you will definitely fail.
I had heard about him prior to taking the course. Very entertaining and really made you think. Definitely will be overanalyzing literature
Very good instructor and very helpful if you show an interest.
I took his 101 class during the summer. Overall he's quite entertaining and very eccentric. He may appear as a mean teacher at first but he's super nice if you get to know him. Do pay attention to his lecture cause all of your essay will come from his lecture. Make sure your English is good if you take his class, because he's a tough grader.
Kumar is a good guy to hang out with, as he gives good advice in life, and you can learn a lot about life through his point of view; however, he is not the best teacher as sometimes he gets very vague on what he wants us to have in his essay. his comments on his essay are easy to understand because of his use of plain English.
I really like the class. I signed up again for another class with him. he makes you think about things that matter.
I took his classes two years ago and still remember his lectures. He can make you love myth! I wanted to take the GREEK MYTH class he is teaching, but i am in another state.
He has an Indian accent, and if you get offended easily, you won't like him. He's entertaining, gets off topic a lot, but he's the only class I haven't minded sitting in for 2 hours without a break. Tough grader, expects a lot of reading. Final essay is written in class, but it's not that hard. Expect to get called on, he loves participation!
Had his class fall quarter and he's the best English professor I've ever had. I love his accent and his humor is off topic yet makes his lectures so easy to remember. The important thing is to actually try and not slack off and you'll be just fine. He HATES slackers and liars so don't lie and say you did the reading if you didn't!
You will find his class challenging on the first few weeks of class. I've heard stories of my friends dropping his class after the first few days. But as you go on, I say he is very passionate about what he is teaching and gives very meaningful lesson. He is a tough grader; though, all of the essays are based off what he said and taught in class.
He wasn't helpful at all and obviously didn't have any interest in Greek Mythology. I took this class and was so excited to learn but I learned nothing from him. I learned everything from the book and when I went to class his lectures went from the text to a whole another story that didn't make sense. Definitely wouldn't take again.
Class lectures can go from talking about oppression in the 1910's to how great Norway is to jokes about drones in India. In one class. Most entertaining English class I've ever taken.
He is funny but I didn't learn much at all from him. I learned everything from the reading assignments and when I came to class he would give me a hard grade bc he didn't agree with my understanding of MYTHOLOGY. It can sometimes take 20+ minutes for him to discuss anything relevant to what we were learning and that KEPT happening. Dissapointed.
Kumar made mythology so much fun. He maybe a hard grader, but you will be just fine as long as you read the assigned readings. I put so much effort into this class and eventually I got a 4.0 :) Kumar is a great teacher. He knows whether or not you are trying the best you could to achieve in his class.
I loved this class and the cool teacher! He makes you work for the grade and does not accept lame excuses. In the end, he rewards you with the grade you deserve, depending on the WORK you put in. He does not tolerate weirdos or cowards.
Excellent teacher! I did not do well at first but the revisions and detailed guidelines helped me a lot. He is very strict in his grading but rewards you when you show improvement. Stay away from his class if you are not willing to do the work and show some thinking in your papers.
He is a very tough grader. I took his HUM109 class and there were quiz every class, he expects you to remember every single person involved in the myth and their relationship, which is impossible, he also pays extra attention on the grammar errors and take off huge points.
I like the class and worked hard to get a good grade. The class was not hard but needed a lot or reading and remembering. Students who cannot attend class and do basic college level work should quit school and invent the next iphone or ipad and prove themselves, but that is not going to happen is it? Losers.
I used his office hours almost daily to get help with my 12 page paper., The conference helped a lot, but it is easy to slack off in this class as the final project come at the end of the quarter. Don't expect him to hold your hand if you are not prepared . You are mostly on your own and have to do the work independently, and this is test too.
Hard grader but his topics make you think. He does not like flakes and excuses, and especially students who play games. Lazy students who goof off should not take his class. He is extremely funny.
Long-winded doesn't cut it. Lectures aren't boring, but the tangents can get pretty off-topic to the point of losing interest. Likes to call out students, so behave well! Docks points for using phones or sleeping. Can be funny, & generous with snacks, but if you're easily offended, don't take his class. He's harmless, but can rub people wrong.
He forgot to bring us our grades work or remember to bring makeup quizzes even when reminded. Think he forgot he told me to turn in my final essay online and maybe did not grade it. Also started to fall asleep during presentations. :/ although he was funny and class was never dull. Just dropped the ball a little.
Prof Kumar, that one of a kind teacher that comes by once in a lifetime. Love his teaching style, keep a very open mind, be prepared to NEVER assume anything. He's not afraid to tell it like it is, cares for his students on the same token does not spoon feed. Take lecture notes, you'll appreciate you did. Don't offend easily, you'll not survive
I would not take this teacher again. I do my work and get good grades, I would consider myself an "average" student. His lectures are too long and he gives no breaks. He will make up random stories that are WAY off topic, and go on and on. That just means more work for you at home, because he will expect you to have your work done by next class.
He will go on arbitrary tangents every single lecture and not teach anything relevant to the essay. You're basically graded only on your final 12 page essay. Easy class only if you're ready to sit for 2-3 hours and listen to him talk about nothing.
Awesome
This professor is always yelling instead of talking. Makes you feel uncomfortable about what you say even though he asks for your opinion. He wants his students to look with in the reading and interpret their own thoughts but only if it goes by what he interprets. If you do not bring your text or assignment, you're absent even though you're in.
very funny, but serious as well.
The hardest English class I've taken and that is coming from someone who had an A in AP English. His class is all lectures about the reading that was homework. He is a funny and entertaining teacher, but he does not allow phones (he will fail you if he catches you twice) and is tough on grading papers and the majority of your grade is on 3 papers.
Kumar gives you a good amount of time to complete your assignments and gives great feedback that is actually helpful
I have loved every humanities class I've ever taken except this one. This class was 2 hours of him talking about absolutely nothing with no breaks. He goes off on tangents and asks questions he doesn't really want answers to- he makes you uncomfortable to talk but mocks you for not talking. His "pop quizzes" are every class. Don't take if possible.
I DO NOT recommend to take his class. Quizzes are pretty hard. Tough grader. He does NOT see your essay carefully. He believes most of international students are not able to write good essay.
I took this class basically because it was the only one open. Big mistake. Professor Kumar will never email you back, won't even answer your question in person, isn't in his office during scheduled office hours, and goes off on two hour tangents about things anything other than what our class is actually about.
He's very disrespectful to international students and anyone who isn't met up to his criteria. The other day he was cursing out the class just cause no one wanted to talk out cause they are scared they will be yelled or humiliated by him in front of everyone. He doesn't respond back to emails or calls. Don't recommend this class. Doesn't grade fair
Kumar is an amazing teacher who is very insightful and often hilarious. There are only a few assignments total so make sure to stay on top of due dates. His grading criteria is strict but in the end helps improve your writing. Overall a great teacher who helps strengthen your writing abilities.
Didnt like his class, his meetings with he class majority dont have anything to do with the essay. He is funny, but he wont give you any sort of guide to your essay. He is very specific, and hard to understand what he really wants at the end of the assignment. NO in time class
I enjoyed his class but he goes off on tangents that don't have any meaning in the class. He also expects very direct answers and will not let you finish if he doesn't agree with what you're saying. Good class for English buffs, bad class for people who like to have their opinions heard.
Expect to do college level reading and writing. My writing improved because of his feedback -- lots of feedback. Gives you enough time to do a good job on papers, allows revision if one is willing to take the time to do it.
Kumar is a very respected teacher at EDCC and has a great track record as being a great professor. He is very clear in his rubrics so it is easy to get good grades if you pay attention to the details. There were only 8 assignments in the grade book at the end of the quarter. Make sure to do all the work or else you won't pass, attendance matters!
Didn't respond to my email before class explaining that I wouldn't be in due to a family emergency. You are required to sit through his lectures where he tells you everything you already read. There's little discussion, just him summarizing what you already know. Otherwise it's just a lot of writing about what you've read and then lectures....
He is an excellent teacher and rewards students who do the work, gives plenty of time to work on papers. There is a fair amount of reading but he goes over everything. Scram if you are lazy and looking for an easy grade.
He goes over the reading during class and takes attendance, so you must come to this class. He is a tough grader when it comes to essays, but he allows you to redo your essays. You'll have 4 essays for the class including the final which is done in class based on the stories you've read, and this is where the majority of your grade comes from.
A lot of work/time for a class that has little challenge. Lectures are just summaries of the reading with little room for student discussion. I hoped this class would be more thought provoking. The reading materials were at least enjoyable. If you want an A based on showing up and writing summaries, this is for you. If you want more, look elsewhere
Class is only once a week for two hours where he reiterates everything you've already read, so it's useless to go. If you don't go to class, you'll fail; the quizzes are weekly and heavily weighted. He's rude & won't accept answers if you have different opinions than him. Somewhat sexist & goes off on unrelated tangents. Not specific when grading.
I like his class and the way he talks about what is assigned for us to read. Students who think they know so much should drop the class and go to UW.
Great Professor. Can seem intense at first, but hes just being respectfull by making eye contact. He has a charm about him, he uses it to make the topics more fun and show that they serve a purpose. As long as you do the work, you might even enjoy class.
failed this class because never understood what he wanted for the exams. he did not return my papers and i heard that he dislike international students.
Kumar is a deep teacher and gives lots of feedback and help if you want to learn. He goes over every essay topic and spends lots of time on the assignments. Can't complain, but he is strict about the work.
HE IS NOT GOOD WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENT, HE NEVER RESPONSE EMAIL, BIG MISTAKE TO TAKE CLASS WITH HIM, HE HAS A BAD ACCENT.
I am international and I like his class. He rewards students who come to class and are prepared to learn, NOT ones who cheat and download from the web!
Always goes off topic and never clearly answer students questions. Its slwats a waste of time in his class since we never learn anything useful.
I improved my writing with his advice but he is a hard grader. I am planning to take another class with him. Don't pay attention to the losers who want to get away with cheating.
He is a really harsh grader and a strict instructor. I wouldnt take his class if you have issues writing lengthy papers. He is one of the hardest instructors at Edcc in my opinion.
got a 3.0 whilst putting in a ton of work, i'd also consider myself a decent writer. one of the most toughest grader i've met my entire life. give this prof a skip, you won't get a good grade despite busting your ass off.
He is an excellent teacher, fair but strict. I enjoyed his class. Will take more classes with him.
The stories we read were amazing, and the symbolism, irony, and conflict analysis skills he helped us develop are invaluable. Definitely take this class.
I learned a lot of techniques on writing in his class . Only got 3 major essays throughout the quarter, the rest were online discussions.
I loved having Prof. Kumar as a teacher. Even though it was a 2 hr class I could sit through the whole lecture engaged because of his humor and enthusiasm. The class was straight forward and if you did the readings you did well.
Really cool teacher, I didn't care about the class, I just took it to get my degree. If he taught some other classes that interested me I would definitely take him as the teacher again.
Loved this class and Dr. Kumar. There is a lot of work but it is well worth it. It is hard work but he gives you more than enough help. I'd take another one of his classes in a second!
This teacher is tough, but in my opinion a good challenge. He's a good teacher and I did learn from his class. He also has a very interesting sense of humor and never made me feel bored because I was always entertained by him. He's a tough grader, you just have to be committed to the work and you will do well.
Great professor! Witty, sharp sense of humor and always kept the class engaged. Show up, pay attention, do the assigned reading and Canvas discussions and youll do fine in his class.
I really enjoyed having to be in class with professor Kumar. It was a lot easier than I expected and would take his class again. Currently, I am going to enroll in his Engish 102 class. He is very hilarious and always good at cracking jokes in the morning. His grading criteria is very clear and easy when writing essays.
I actually loved this class! He makes the material interesting to listen to. At the beginning of each class you have a writing quiz but if you do the reading you'll easily pass them. Homework is pretty much reading the books but the books are pretty cool stories, too. There are just 2 mini-essays and 1 discussion each week, pretty easy class!
Unorthodox teaching, easy grader though
Definitely avoid this guy if you can. He is an extremely hard grader and would give me a zero on an assignment just because I did one small part wrong. I have multiple friends in this class and they are all struggling to get a c. He has a pretty heavy accent and I would lose my sense of reality sitting in his class for two whole hours. Withdrew!
Professor Kumar was very interesting. He is very amusing, and just shows up and does his job. He is very lecture heavy & the material he lectures on half of the time doesnt even relate to class.. lol. I would take this class if u need to fulfill a credit or if interested in greek myth. But overall the weirdest class Ive taken....
Good prof. He can be really fun but sometimes it gets repetitive and boring. Only three essays but read the daily stories and participate in discussions. He'll like you as long as you communicate and listen when serious
I never got full credit on anything and he never explained why I was marked down. I worked my butt off but never got full points. I would not take this class again or recommend it to anyone.
Hes like weird... literally you could put your blood, sweat, and tears into your writing and hell still have nothing nice to say ? The Feedback is a mess. Literally shady and not even helpful. He takes a long time to grade work but refuses late work no matter how busy you are. Makes the course difficult but not an enjoyable difficult at all.
His class wasn't too hard but he wasn't clear about what he wanted in the assignments. Even when putting lots of effort into the assignments, I rarely got full points. One time he posted and example for what he wanted for a discussion AFTER it was due. When I tried to contact him after class, his replies were short and didn't answer my questions.
Dr. Pranab was an amazing teacher. I loved his Greek Myth class. A majority of the content was; read a chapter from this book, and write a discussion on it. It is important to do the work, and the grading is pretty difficult, but cut and dry; if you do the work as he asks you'll do great! Also, he always responds with a comment if you ask.
I had him during covid. We had two discussions each week, but sometimes there were more. Make sure to check when things are due because his due dates sometimes overlap each other. His instructions were not very clear. He is a TOUGH grader, I barely got full points even when I tried my best to answer the questions. Be prepared to read A LOT.
Takes points off for following the brief to the letter, but not having "the right opinion". Feedback is usually unrelated to your postings, and sometimes quite rude. Lots of emphasis on just a few myths.
Seems like he genuinely wants us to learn and he wasnt too hard in my opinion.
Mr Kumar is sometimes misunderstood, I feel like his knowledge of the subject was very good, at times a little critical on points for discussion boards but none the less very willing to work with you to succeed and get a good grade. If you do the work you shouldn't have any issues. Also prepare for the final! Easy if you prepare, very hard if not
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN. I hate Kumar SO MUCH. You have to read so so much. If you skip the reading you will receive a bad grade. You read like 1-3 stories a week (the are up to 150 pages EACH) then you have to write like a 700-word analysis for each story. Very tough grader. He is a very VERY rude man. Worst teacher i have EVER had. I hate
Great and knowledgable professor. Helpful and encouraging all the way as long as you do the work. He has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor so if you take his class you are in for a good laugh (well of course if you are into that sort of humor). Solid guy all the way.
Avoid this guy at all costs. He is awful man. You will be sorry. Warning stay away from him.
Very good teacher. Responds to e-mails in a flash. He is strict but fair and gives you enough time to finish the work. Do not expect an easy grade if you are incapable of doing the work.
Dr. Pranab Kumar is a great professor. ENGL101 was difficult but I learned a lot. There are 2-3 discussion posts a week and 3 essays for the year. For posts, you must complete the reading and write a response to it that is quality and lengthy to get full points. He posts PDFs of the required textbooks/readings on canvas so no need to buy the books.
In this class, I learned a lot. ENGL102 is a research-based class, so having no idea how to write a research paper I was intimidated but the structure of Dr. Pranab Kumar's class helped me learn. There is one final paper due at the end but you do discussions and little assignments to help you prepare. Put in the work and your grade will reflect it.
Dr. Pranab Kumar is a great professor, as this is my third class with him. For this specific class, you read four myths (short books), take 4 quizzes, and write two mini-essays. This class one of his easier classes, but you still need to put in the work to get a good grade. All required readings are posted as PDFs on canvas.
After hearing a mutual friend say they didnt like this class I was hesitant to take it but I am so glad I did! He keeps the class interesting and provides different types of material for all learners along with the required text (videos, movies, documents explaining). He is also a very fast responder which was helpful with my essay. I recommend!
2nd class by Dr. Kumar; still great! Tough grader, but if you do the work, and really *try* you should be just fine! Basic class structure: read book chapters, participate in discussion, do bi-weekly quiz, and 2 papers (mid-final + final, 700-ish word paper). Honestly the most time consuming part was reading. Long story short, *Highly Recommend*!!!
Dr. Kumar is a great professor and teaches very well! His feedback on assignments is very thorough and helps a lot when writing the essays. I would definitely recommend anyone interested in English 101 to take his course.
Extremely heavy workload, do not take if you just want credit as he is not an easy professor at all. That being said, his feedback is extremely well thought out and helps a lot with writing your paper. Unfortunately, his grading can be unfair but if you put a lot of thought into your writing you should end up with a good grade.
The professor is rude. He doesn't care about your work. unfair. Tough grader and he won't tell you where did you go wrong.
Very tough grader - only a select answer that he is looking for. Would not recommend taking ENGL 101 with him. The readings are super random, confusing, and hard to understand. He will give you detailed feedback on what he is looking for. You can attempt to apply that but do not count on it bringing your grade up. Just take someone else's class!!
I have never met a man so rude and unhelpful before in my life. Terrible educator who clearly hates his job. Find another one or be nicer and more helpful.
Very insulting, on my first assignment of the class graded me down and told me my response was "too obvious". To a post where I had put in hardwork and attempted too have an original thought.
He has a final that was worth most of my grade and I reached out many times to ask"hey am j doing this right" or " the instructions were unclear can you clarify" and 3 days before end of quarter he emailed me saying basically I did the whole thing wrong and I had to redo a whole 15 page paper. The response was so rude too.
I think he's a funny guy, he's extremely nice but has a grumpy face so just ignore that. I love his lecture 'cause it's hilarious. There is readings you are required to read before class, but it's wouldn't be that pressuring to do, it's not that long. He might comment a lot of things on your writing, but don't take that too heavy on yourself.
Dr. Kumar was rude in his responses to assignments. He graded my final essay draft too late for me to change my final. Not a considerate professor.
Your grade point average will slip. Do not take this personally. Warning.
I don't know if I have ever disliked a course so much. He gives simple instructions with no clear want. Grades harshly for not thinking 5 yards away from the box and though he asks questions that seem to be open. In truth, there's only one correct answer.
With this teacher there is only one correct answer, something strange because everyone can interpret a story in different ways. In the midterm I asked for instructions and I only copy what I had already put. He made me feel like a fool because he told me to read what he already posted. I had 94% and then I go down to 71.
Terrible English teacher, you can hardly understand him because he has a bad accent. Be harsh with students' papers, never met such a bad teacher.
You will be lucky to get a B+, considering he always finds a reason to nick a few points off. His feedback is unhelpful, so it's hard to fix mistakes in the next assignments. He asks for your interpretation, but he is only looking for specific answers, making each assignment stressful as you wonder whether your interpretation is "correct."
He is sort of a tough grader but really good at communicating his expectations. He's quick to respond to questions and gives lots of examples with his instructions. I would take his class again.
Online class was a nightmare. assignment requirements spread across several different links. Feedback is nonsensical, seems like he uses ctrl+F to find key words in assignments, if you didn't answer exactly what he is looking for in the wording he would use, you lose points. If you correct him he won't change your grade. Uses way too many emojis.
Horrible Teacher. If he didn't like you or how you interpreted stories he would just fail you!! No good feedback given. Very negative teacher!
Overall the work wasn't hard to do and if you do the work you will do fine but he said many many questionable things in the classroom including but not limited to: Jokes about eating disorders unprompted, misogynistic sayings/jokes, transphobic sayings/jokes, a slur, and more. He also doesn't grade on time and gives feedback that may not make sense
he is no help, offers no extra credit, does not accept any late work and the only excuse he will accept is if you're in the hospital any other reasons are not accepted. he will find anything he doesn't like and mark 10 points off. very rude he commented on my assignment asking if I knew how to spell basic words. I have a learning disability.
The discussion boards were way too long, you basically wrote 1-2 essays a week. The frustrating part was I would put a lot of effort into the assignments but then get a bad grade with no explanation. There was no reasoning behind his grading and I was very disappointed with this class.
The class isnt hard if you stay on top of it. But he is a tough grader, took points off if you interpreted the work differently, didnt accept late work, instructions were vague, feedback was a formless wall of text or rude over spelling, and graded drafts as finals. I was one of the top students and rarely got 100%. Expect to write 3-4 pages a week
The directions are very vague, sometimes nonsensical. You will write at least 2 essays a week for the discussion board. The quizzes are open for 1 day only. I dropped the class because he is very rude. He implied that I'm a liar because I experienced a technical difficulty with the online quiz and could not complete it within his 1 day allotment.
Good teacher but can be a bit tough on grading. Lectures are very interesting and he puts thought into feedback. Very funny too.
Idk too much work
Professor Kumar's class was a mixed bag. While the material wasn't too difficult, his grading was quite strict and inflexible. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep, but overall I wouldn't take this class again.
This professor is so confusing I swear on my mama what the flip this professor is my thirteenth reason I swear he makes no sense and the grading is absolutely bonkers. He lectures subjects off topic and gives out assignments out of the blue. This "hybrid" class had mandatory attendance. The grading is heavy and I'm lost every time in the class.
I started 108 and handed a paper in to be graded. He said if he graded it, I would receive 1 point. He is a ....... teacher. Never take this man for any class. I don't know why the Administration is keeping him around. Again, WARNING: don't take any classes with him. Your GPA will drop dramatically.
This instructor is autocratic and inflexible. The amount of reading, assigned lectures, writing, and grading standards are extreme for a 100 level community college class. Nor is the work truly designed to enhance student's academic growth or love of the subject. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Please look at the other comments about this professor. He won't change, and your GPA will suffer. He is so rude. Please take this as a warning: never, ever take this person!!!!
Okay I'm not the best reader or writer but I swear I'll spend so much time on these papers, and get bad grade. First off, the texts that we read almost always are old text so it's hard to understand. The read hard he grades hard, lots work I'm falling the class idk probably a nice guy I just can't take it becuase a English 101 class is this hard wtf
Englis101 class that is so hard3-4 pages a week. I'm falling his class idk I try hours on his papers super tough grader. My dad had stage 4 cancer I wanted to spend time with him this guys writing took up a lot of my time why you making a 101 class this hard idk dude dads dead failing grade sacrificed time with him to fail a 101 class cool
Sacrificed time with my dying dad for him to give me a 100% on one assignment I spent hours on each assignment would be like this good then get bad grade tough grader if I was in front of him I'd flip him off still in his online class trying to pass idk dude 101 class that this difficult makes no sense it's not that his paper hard, grade hard
Okay so Kumar does give a lot of homework and it is very time consuming. If it weren't for AI I would've spent even more hours on top of the hours I already put in. I did put in a lot of hours revising and checking my papers. He gives good feedback but is definitely a harsh grader. Do not take his class, I only did because it was my last option.
Would go on rants about drugs instead of teaching the class maybe thought it was funny but came across as unprofessional. I wrote some decently composed writing pieces and had my parents, with master's degrees, make corrections and work with me and give me 80 percent. I heard from other friends about how easy their English 101 was, not his.
Honestly, this class just sucked. He tended to grade discussions based on whatever he deemed to be the "right answer," in fiction of all things. His feedback could be a little ambiguous, and I would be genuinely surprised if ANYONE got a better than a B on his papers. I would take any other prof you could for this class.
Doesn't accept late work no matter what. Doesn't give good description for assignments, and hard to reach
accepts no late work no matter what. Directions are never clear with no clear directions on what you need to write for an assignment, and his grading never matches his format outline that he gives us. In general really hard to reach and bad class and teacher.
Never had a worse first impression of a teacher on the first day. Putting down us students he just met, and putting down previous students. Big ego, lots of opinions and comments that are not relevant to class and just make folks uncomfortable.
I have never had a professor be so bipolar, I had him for a summer course, started out fine until the essays came into play, his feedback contradicted the rubric we were given. I've never met a teacher as harsh as he was. Do not take this class if you value your grades, I definitely shed some tears during this course.
SUCH A HARSH GRADER!! UNBELIEVABLE. I even messaged him asking how I can improve my grades because I wasn't sure why he was giving me such bad marks, and he would just repeat the instructions or reply saying the instructions were clear. Such a useless class and so harsh for no reason. I actually put a lot of effort and still only got a B-.
He does not accept late work and he does not if you do well on your paper assignment. Do not take Kumar as your instructor for any other class, especially English 101.
I'm a running start student and a special needs kid, so his course is the very first I took in this program. He tends to not give enough information nor give examples of how we write our responses. His grading is also very strict and he will NOT miss any details you miss. I recommend not to take his courses.
His discussion posts were easy to do, but the grading was all over the place I got one 20/20 over the whole course. Also the test were wack, the average was about 22/40 points on every one. He also takes forever to grade your assignments. Would not recommend taking Greek myth with him
