Good teacher. Tests are essay but if you study you'll be fine. You have to go to class.
The class if very interesting. Not a hard topic to grasp because it affects our lives every day. Nyer is a nice guy! You have to go to class b/c of pop quizzes. Good class and good professor
One of the better professors at Chapman. Uses real life examples to support theories. Very easy grader, wants you to get a good grade. Only a couple pop quizzes during the semester. The group project is a fun way to apply concepts learned in the class.
Great teacher, great class, and uses this awesome project called the Marketing Simulation to make it fun and allow students to experience marketing theories first-hand. If this class is offered, open, and you need it.... take it
Really good teacher. Very helpful and friendly. Not hard to approach and wants you to do well and understand the concepts. He tries to get everyone involved by always calling on different people. His tests are easy and there are very few assignments during the semester.
Great teacher, with good sense of humor. Has excellent examples and allows you to really understand the concepts he's teaching you!!
prashanth is a great instructor...just be sure you don't collaborate with other teams during the MarkSim, wether he specifies it's not allowed or not
Great lecturer, but not an approachable teacher outside of class. Seems to be almost aloof with students. Tests are difficult and challenging. His sense of humor is in his lectures and makes class interesting.
such a great guy. his marketing similation activity is sooo fun. im in his class now and i really enjoy it. tests are pretty much straight forward. but u have to know ur stuff. he gives announced and unannounced quizzes so be prepared. overall i recommend him.
This class is great. Great teacher/lecturer, gives great examples & the Marketing Simulation is great. He grades tough, but he just wants thorough answers regardless of how verbose the answer is. Study hard, go to class, and be on time b/c he gives timed quizzes at the beginning of class.
He is a great teacher! He expects a lot from his students, but he tells you exactly what he is going to expect. Explains things very clearly and thoroughly. I highly recommend taking his class! One of the best profs. I've ever had.
Overall, I liked his class. Way too much emphasis on group work. He prepared a study guide for the final, and then the final was all quantitative at the last minute. Refused to discuss grade. Very anal, but interesting class overall. Not my favorite.
This man is my favorite professor at Chapman. He is by far the most interesting of all the Marketing professors. He is tough but you will leave his class with actual knowledge of Marketing
This guy is AWESOME! This is my first Marketing class and he makes it so interesting and fun...he is so funny! He always gives examples to help students learn concepts and is VERY straightforward with his expectations!! I have already learned soooo much in this class and I actually enjoy going to it twice a week!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!
I love this class. The pop quizzes are annoying but it makes me listen better everyday so I'll bet it's doing what he wants it to. The marksim is fun and if you go to class and listen well and take good notes there is no reason to even open the book!
Nyer is awesome. He is a great professor who really explains all the concepts. He can be very funny and the material is interesting so the class goes by fast. Dont bother buying the book. Never opened it. I have learned a great deal in this class and Im getting a good grade! I def. recommend him!
prashanth is a great instructor...just be sure you don't collaborate with other teams during the MarkSim, wether he specifies it's not allowed or not
Great class, tough grading!
Absolutely an amazing professor, kept all the material engaging and wants to raise your grade as much as possible! Take him if you can!!
Great professor very helpful and always available for students
Nyer is awesome. He teaches clearly, and his study guides tell you what to know for the test.
Great teacher! Makes the material interesting and is always a great help. Class was always fun. Take him for marketing if you get the chance!
Great teacher. Sometimes rambles on about things that are irrelevant but interesting. Quizzes arnt bad if you study and test are very fair. Hes a pretty cool guy.. take him if you can.
He taught first half of the semester during Fall 2009. I probably learned the most in his class. Students may complain about frequency of quizzes, however, it helps you retain all the info which in turn helps you prepare for the tests better! His lectures are thorough and gives great examples to help students understand and comprehend the material.
No textbook. Group project takes a lot of time and is worth very little. Grading scheme is unclear - he curved the final without even telling anyone dropping my grade from A- to B+. Rushes over difficult principles. Class is not to boring.
Good Class. Nice teacher. Grading was very unclear! Had a B+ going into the final. Knew all the material. Graded on a curve which ended up hurting the ENTIRE class. Ended up with a C+ still confused as to how this happened. Along with many others.
He doesn't give a dam about the students. If your not his fav and kiss his butt he really doesn't care, now that he is the assistant dean if it is not important to him then he won't help you. He also decided to leave a class half way through a semester to take a vacation, students do not come first.
Despite what others have posted Professor Nyer does really care about his students. He has helped me not only with this class but with teachers in my other classes as well as planning out my next years schedule. This class is hard to get an A. Study the powerpoints, you get out of it what you put in to it.
Subject content is basic. Group work was good, but did not debrief to help students understand the details. Grading was weird.
Overall a pretty basic and easy class with no homework. Study for the tests and you should be fine. Teacher makes it easy to understand and is funny from time to tome.
He's not a hard teacher but expects a lot of his students. He's a cool guy. The quizzes kept me from getting an A, they're harder than his exams, so make sure you really study for those. One group project that's not too hard.
Dr. Nyer definitely covers the material thoroughly, gives a ton of examples in class, and gives pop quizzes quite often, so make sure you study. The Marketing Simulation is a fun application of the course that keeps it interesting. The midterm was super easy, make sure you attend class so you don't miss all of the quizzes!
Just an old-school hardass with little regard to students. His tests are pedantic obstacle courses and he provides you with little material or guidelines to help one succeed. Take Stephens instead.
Gives pop quizzes, teaches something one way in class, and will completely change it up for the test, and since there is not textbook to refer to alternate ways you are left to figure this out on your own during the test. Very full of himself. Nothing good to say about this professor.
He doesn't seem to like Greek affiliated kids at all. Can be a bit "too cool" (borderline rude) at times.
Overall great prof. All PowerPoint for lecture but used a lot of relevant examples. Posts slides online. All test and quizzes are very fair. Useful group project. Attendance not mandatory, but 10 pop quizzes. Really quick on grading. I learned a lot, and found the many examples he gives to really help me understand concepts.
He's very knowledgeable, not just on marketing on any topic. He tells fascinating stories in his class and he's very involved with his students. He will learn your name and he'll notice if you get a haircut. Overall his class is fun. The marketing simulation is a big part of the class and if you don't do well it can mess with your grade.
Even if you slack off for half the semester, if you show him you're putting in effort, and you ask him for help, he will help you so much and you will be so glad you took that class.
At the beginning of the semester, I thought I was going to hate this class and it ended up being one of my favorite classes at Chapman. Nyer really knows his stuff and cares about his students. I thought he was hilarious (he WILL call you out in class) If you take GOOD notes and pay attention during lecture (no book), this class will be a breeze.
Prashanth is probably one of my favorite professors I've had at Chapman. He will make fun of you but not in a way that is legitimately insulting in any way. Class will be tricky if you don't pay attention and his quizzes are usually more difficult than his exams. You will learn and you will be engaged if you take his class.
Good teacher and makes the class entertaining, but it is much harder than it needed to be. Class was less about marketing theory and more about mathematical calculations that I will never use..
Great guy, he makes an effort to know everyone's name. he will call on people at random to make sure everyone is paying attention. there are 2 midterms, 2 "assignments" (read test, all math calculations, it took the whole class period) and multiple quizzes. if you study and pay attention in the class you will be fine. He is very straightforward.
He makes this class just SO much harder than it has to be. His quizzes are impossible and he knows that and just doesn't care. Don't take this class with him !
You either love him or hate him. He's really not that bad and is one of the most enthusiastic lectures at Chapman (bars not too high). Most of it is examples and he goes through everything realllllly slow. Lots of quizzes, no homework, 2 assignments with lots of simple math. Doesn't like accounting majors though :(
People who do do well in this class (and do well on quizzes) tend to enjoy this class, those who struggle usually dislike Prashanth. He is energetic and loves telling stories to connect to his points. Remember the stories because they may come up on the exams. Good if you prefer analysis over the creative side of marketing.
Comes off hard at first but isnt. Harsh humor but he always means well. Does a great job at teaching you marketing in a BUSINESS perspective. Lots of quizes but they are incredibly EASY and require almost no studying if you just go to class. He does a group project that is confusing at first but only takes up 5 minutes of time each week.
Professor Nyer is very professional and caring. He is funny but he picks on people to answer questions once awhile so students pay attention to him in class. These questions are usually about ECON 200, MATH 109 or common sense. Come prepared for (8) quizzes in class. There is a 8-week marketing simulation project and requires plenty collaboration.
Professor Nyer is truly one of the best at Chapman. He will call you out every now and then but in all good humor! He really cares for his students and will do his best to make sure everyone understands the content. There is a marketing simulation assignment that you work on with a group the entire semester so make sure to pick a good group.
I enjoyed Prashanth's lectures and he is very knowledgeable in marketing. Class is very tough though. Extremely tough pop quizzes, mini-tests were all hard and all calculation questions. Even if you do well on the midterm and final, quizzes will ruin your grade. Group project wasn't too bad. Final was extremely hard. Rename this class Calculus 304.
He is a very knowledgeable professor and knows his stuff. His quizzes aren't very hard, all multiple choice & True False. The mini tests, midterm and final are very heavily math based. You definitely need to be good at math to do well.
I found his pop quizzes to be extremely hard and the class too math heavy. There is no textbook and no study guides for the quizzes(Except midterm and final). He gives you one practice problem which will be on the mini-test and midterm. Our class failed the first exam and he was "disappointed in us" but if everyone fails, its the teacher's fault.
He purposely wants your grade to end low. I had a 96 going into the final and then he gave us a final that he did not prepare us for and changed everything up completely. On the group project he told our group that we had the best overall presentation and then gave us a C+ on it. His only focus is keeping his average grade in the class low.
Unless you're a prolific note taker his pop quizzes are impossible as long with his tests. Aims to humiliate and make fun of students. He wants to make this course very challenging. A lower grade for the class is his goal and he will get it. Avoid.
Nyer is an excellent professor that I extremely knowledge and engaging with the content. He is very transparent about what is expected and how the class will function. His pop quizzes are usually just quizzes as he gives a heads most of the time.
Professor Nyer is a great professor that creates a fun and engaging learning atmosphere with awesome lectures each day. The course grades are based on quizzes, tests, and a project; all of which are very doable and transparent with expectations. I would highly recommend anyone to take this class.
Dr. Nyer isn't a bad choice. The workload wasn't anything extraordinary and I didn't hate coming to class. Overall I'd recommend taking MKTG304 with him.
I really liked Dr. Nyer and although half of our class was online, he was super helpful and even over zoom his lectures were just as engaging. Great guy and a great class. Pay attention to lectures, study formulas, and you'll be golden in this class.
I really liked taking him for my MKTG 304. Although you have 10-12 "pop" quizzes throughout a semester, they are not terrible as long as you are following coursework from the past three classes. Marketing simulation decision is due every Wednesday but again it's not too bad once you grasp the concept! Overall, I got to learn a lot about marketing!
Nyer creates all of his class material and gives you no references to learn from other than himself. I had him in the transition to online classes and he was unwilling to work with students and made the class more difficult. He consistently called people out in class online and posted recordings later. Embarrassing for him.
He is a great lecturer, is serious, and cares about his students. His lectures are very clear and thorough, but his tests are quite difficult! He grades you on a lot so you have an opportunity to make up for your grade. There is no homework but plenty of quizzes. He makes you work for your grade but is pretty fair. Overall I recommend him!
Do not take this class unless you are very, VERY good at calculus. Overall, he is a good and straight forward lecturer and professor. But his class is almost more math than marketing.
His lectures are enjoyable and there are some amusing moments thrown in. He really cares about students and their success. The quizzes are very challenging and caused the most burden. Sometimes tests can have questions worded in ways you have never seen before. You'll have to study super hard for an A, but you should take him if you can.
He makes his students uncomfortable, is not friendly at all in personal meetings, and can be extremely aggressive in his lectures and the way he speaks. This class is way too hard for a required marketing class and he does not make it any easier. I retook the class with another professor and it was MUCH easier and I ended with an A-.
Professor Nyer is one of the best marketing professors at Chapman! He has years of real-world experience and brings in personal examples into his lectures which makes the material super engaging. He makes his expectations clear on the first day and may seem intimidating at first but thats because he truly wants you to learn which you really do!
The course itself isn't rigorous at all, he dumbs everything down for you. The examples he uses in class are pretty easy to follow. The tests are super easy and I never felt rushed. I did feel rushed during the quizzes and I have never felt confident in my answers after taking a quiz due to the time limit.
No homework. A few timed quizzes but they honestly aren't too hard. He tells you what's on the tests ahead of time so you should be able to do well. He talks a lot which can make the class kinda boring, but he eventually gets back on topic.
The guy gives great lectures and everything he lectures on is on the tests. I thought it was a weird amount if algebra involved for a marketing class. He's a solid choice but know that he's very strict about attendance and such. Gives quizzes with little amounts of time to complete them as well.
This man is the GOAT, class seems hard at first then eases up later on. Pay attention and you'll pass no question.
He will call you out, but he just wants you to participate. He is not bad, it is definitely very easy to get an A. I would recommend him, if participating does not bother you.
This class is ridiculously difficult for the simplicity of the topic. If you do have to take this professor, genuinely pay attention in class and take the best notes possible. He's a good guy, but it seems like teaching is all he does and makes the class as difficult as it could possibly be.
Professor Nyer is very passionate about what he is doing. He try's to make the material easy for students. When it comes to quizzes, they are beyond hard to complete in the allocated time. The quizzes were hard and ultimately determine your grade. The tests were very calculus based.
MKTG should not be this difficult, he def makes you really work for your grade. Exams were calculus-based and very difficult so make sure you study the insides and outs of the subject. Lectures are fun and entertaining. He doesn't give a lot of time for quizzes but if you study well they are easy to complete in the time frame.
Professor Nyer is a great lecturer IF you can take a joke. Uses students names in examples. It's clear by the way he phrases things now that people have been offended by him before. I found his humor palatable. 1ish concept quiz per week, 4 hard math tests with no final. Lectures available online to review. Make use of them. Overall light workload
An overall rude and disrespectful professor who does not care for his students. Rather, he belittles students in class and has an overall difficult attitude which is not conducive to learning. I would stay away from him if possible.
He's a good teacher. He is good at explaining the concepts and makes students laugh and includes them in discussion. Hes great.
rude, awful explainer, and one of the most disrespectful teachers I have ever seen.
I wanted to be a marketing major, that was until I took Professor Nyer's class. He makes you feel dumb and lowers your confidence as he has favorites that he likes to call on. For me, it was every single class, even though I didn't do too well on the weekly quizzes and midterms. His lectures are great and informative.
Good professor, however lecture heavy. If you miss class you will fall behind and quizzes are very specific to the class lectures so studying is a must, however each two quizzes are exactly the same and that goes for tests so you get two chances for each! Show up, study, and just try and you'll pass.
Nyer is great. The class, not so much. Everything was so math heavy, that it didn't even feel like a marketing course. I suggest if you are not good at algebra, and basic calculus, to take a different professor. Getting an A is manageable, but you really have to work for it. Definitely not a good introductory course to marketing.
Great professor overall. Quizzes and 4 exams make up the entire grade. Make sure to pay attention to lecture because that is what quizzes are on. Exams 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 are identical just different numbers. Exam 4 however was a lot tougher than Exam 3 btw. He is blunt, but is funny and has interesting stories for lectures. Would recommend.
Nyer constructed a curriculum of what he believes to be proper Marketing. With no textbook to refer to, you are often left to review example questions in the notes that are far easier than the ones to pop up on the test. Marketing shouldnt be this algebra-heavy, it's a joke. Oh and after the final, you can't talk to him until the next semester lol.
One of the worst teachers i have ever bad. I would not EVER recommend taking this professor if you are required to take a marketing class. Every single person ive ever talked to who has had a marketing class always says how easy it is to get through, and a lot of the class has petty low grades. AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS.
He was overall rude, disrespectful, and did not care about his students. He spent more time talking about deadlines to drop his class from low grades than supporting his students and helping them improve. He likes that he gives low grades and that his class is hard which is ridiculous for a marketing class. Literally NO
This class is a little too difficult for an intro marketing class, however, it's still not too hard where you can't do well. You're only graded on weekly quizzes (repeats questions so you have a chance to do better on the following quiz) and two exams that are fully math based. You have to know basic alg b/c he tries to trick you on exams
The most respectable professor I've had. I feel super lucky to have had him as a prof this semester. It is math heavy but it makes sense because math is very crucial for understanding marketing concepts. He is so fair with his exams. If you pay attention, apply yourself, and work hard, you'll get a good grade. You get out of it what you put in.
Very outdated for a marketing class. Makes smart remarks at students and gives no room for error. I recommend taking another professor if possible
Personally, I love his class because I can actually stay focused. There are quizzes each week, two midterms, and the final is take-home. Paying attention to the lecture is crucial to doing well on the quizzes, which involve no calculations. The exams consist of only about three questions, all calculations. If you put in the effort, you can pass.
I would study everything he told me to in the exact way he taught it but then on the test it would be trick questions with diff situations and variables that he didn't teach us how to calculate. He made it known that "bus students have it harder/won't get A's like the other majors" insinuating he would not be giving A's. He was rude and graded hard
They key to doing well in this class is paying attention during lectures. It is very math heavy however I am decent at math and didn't try as hard as I should have. If I would have put in a good amount of effort into this class I would have gotten a better grade but I found the lectures too boring to pay attention in.
extremely quiz and test heavy so DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE NOT A GOOD TEST TAKER! the whole entire class is graded on 12 quizzes and 2 tests. quizzes happen every tuesday and 2 exams that are just math and thats it, there is nothing else. take at your own risk. nice guy but not the best marketing professor to take for this class at Chapman.
I enjoyed Prashanth's class! He is clear with what you will be evaluated on (12 quizzes and 2 tests), making it easy to succeed in the class. He posts video lectures on each topic, which helps when reviewing concepts. He cold calls on people, but as long as you pay attention or ask for help, it's not too bad!
Prashanth Nyer will openly roast his students. He does not care about your feelings.Class is unnecessarily hard and honestly swayed me away from marketing. Would take literally any other professor but not him
Worst professor at Chapman. There is a lot of math involved for this class and it is a marketing class. I couldn't believe that. He is also a very tough grader, and has a very thick accent. Not a good professor nor is he caring towards students. Also tells you whether you should drop the class mid-semester if you are failing. Bad class! Do not take
Everyone hates on this class but it really is not that bad. It takes some effort to get an A but you just need to show up to get a B/C so it kind of just depends on your priorities. Yes there is math in a marketing class which sounds bad but in reality the math based tests ended up being the easiest part of the class.
prof nyer is a great professor. his lectures were very entertaining and the way he lectures made the material easy to remember. he has pre recorded videos of all his lectures on canvas, which makes studying for the quizzes very easy. 16 point quizzes each week and 2 midterms, the quizzes make up most of the grade. highly recommend him for marketing
