Challenges students to think - not a blow-off course. You can learn alot from him if you put in the effort. Very helpful both in and outside of class. Very knowledgable about literature.
What almost any other teacher should try to be.

What an ****. Too arrogant to be at a music school. Please send him to Boston University. Also, remember, George W. Bush went to Yale as well and he's a horrible person.
One of a handful of teachers through Berklee who does NOT put up with mindlessness. Therefore dividing people who like him and people who don't. Personally, I found him to be the most enlightening teacher of any subject I've taken in years. Highly recommended.
Very helpful and friendly but the work load is generally ridiculous
Great teacher, very energetic in a good way, and smart too.
he's alot of fun
Great teacher, down to earth, extremely smart, and one of the best teachers i've never had.
disrespectful.
has a habit of falsely accusing people of plagiarism. very pretentious and degrading to students, as if his yale education is too good for undergraduate music students. total lame ass.

Good teacher, class discussions were very political and heated. He likes to stir the pot and get everybody excited about the subject matter, and he did so effectively. If you are looking for "English for Musicians" look elsewhere.

Will push you to succeed and think.
who thought the greatest english teacher EVER would be at Berklee? will make you THINK and leave class everyday with a new view on LIFE. his backpack on any given day matches his jacket. owns 63 different shirts that match his shoes.
pratt is the man. class discussions are always intriguing, awesome sense of humor. amazing amazing amazing. best english teacher ive ever had. oh yeah and it's true about the 63 shirts and matching backpack and coat. haha. Pratt, rock on forever. Take him at all costs, you wont regret it.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. All we did in the class was talk about politics, government, world issues etc. it was more of a speach class than english, and if you didnt agree with him or didnt want to get involved in an arguement you were marked down. He was not clear about hw, tests, quizzes, he wanted you to fail
You are like AWESOME DUDE!!! YOU ROCK!! PEACE OUT TO DA WORLD, MA MAN!
It is not hyperbole to say that Pratt is the best. He is focussed, insightful, challenging, fair, caring, genuine, and absurdly intelligent. I've never felt better about working so hard. I felt brilliant when I left his classes, because I had stretched my intellect so far. You will not have a better learning experience at Berklee. Period.
I had Pratt for College Writing 2...and it was by FAR the best english class I've ever taken. Pratt is and amazing teacher with an incredible sense of humor. He won't let you coast on through and do nothing, so be prepared to do work! Despite the work, I've never had more fun doing work! He's one of the best teachers I've ever had! TAKE HIM!!!
I had Pratt 1st semester & decided to take his english class 2nd semester. I hate speaking in front of people but this class makes it fun and it's comfortable. great discussions that never put u to sleep... he wants u to speak but he's nice about it. You'll love going to class. gotta buy a book & read a little for every class but it's worth it!
Pratt is awesome. Anyone that says otherwise is just a lazy bum who is scared of having to do 2 essays and show up everyday over the course of the semester. In my opinion, he is a great teacher and even better person. Highly recommended.
He is incredible, i wish there was college writing three required so i could take him again, he is to the point, keeps your attention for the whole hour, is funny, and makes you think. Plus he actually cares about important things and will go off on long tangents about world events every so often. He is great.
The best teacher I've ever had in english. He makes you think, challenges you. The classes are a lot of fun. He'll make you work but it's completely worthy. Take him to try a very unusual type of professor. GREAT.
makes class interesting
Great teacher - great class discussions. Highly recommend his College Writing 2 class, he made it very interesting and lead the class in brain activating, fun discussions bringing out the participation of even the less forward people.
Like everyone has said before me, Pratt is the man!! College Writing 2 was the hardest class I have ever taken, but it is so worth it. He makes you really analyze english more than you ever though you would (or could). I can honestly say that I feel much smarter just from his one class that I have taken.
Pratt is an awesome teacher, always trying to lead his students deeper and helping expand ideas. He consistantly picks great reading material and never assigns too much at a time. However, I feel like he was really limited by his students- most kids didn't have very compelling ideas so a lot of the discussions in class fell flat.
Interesting guy. Expect to buy a lot of books. Didn't watch many films in a class with film in the title. Not clear at all on assignments. Would always say he would post instructions on line but never did. Also grades but never did. Didn't get a syllabus till a month in and it didn't have a grading break down. Got an A in the end though.
He taught for years at ELS to international student. His ability to teach is worth to see. I can say that I am really lucky, since I learnt English from him. Highly recommended.
I took his class at last year. I think he was full of drive in to teach, and he is not boring in the class, and very reasonable home works and personality is great!. I think he is one of greatest teacher in Berklee.
Pratt is as addictive as heroin. This is my third class with him and it is because of his brilliants. He is constantly pushing the norms that makes every class unpredictable, challenging and fun. He focuses on great intellectual material but isn?t shy to bring in a few pop culture references. THE BEST!
One of Berklee's best. Only take him if you are willing to read, analyze, and present/perform information (basically work really hard). His questions are challenging and he makes you reconsider even your own basic opinions. Please use this enlightening academic and philosophical class to it's potential. This is what college is for!
Pratt is the only teacher I have ever been compelled to rate, I mean this in the best possible way. Pratt is the kind of person blessed with the ability to make anything interesting. Classes are always enlightening, if hard. You are expected to be able to defend your opinions with more than "Just 'cuz". Truly an inspiring man!
Worst professor ever. He is... just to much.
So inspiring!
Possibly the most obnoxious teacher I've ever had. Very condescending and requires that you buy a lot of books. Makes you do a lot of work for a rather unimportant class that doesn't really mean anything.
Pratt knows his stuff, he just doesn't know who to teach at all. You are probably never going to get an A if he doesn't like you, no matter how hard you try. His class is torture.
so much boring work to do on his class
He was good. Class was good! The only thing was that it is hard to get a 'A' . Also, there were missions every time. It might be helpful.
Seriously, don't take his aci class
passionate, knowledgable, funny. GET READY TO WORK! if you want to take his class, theres a lot of work to do, but is very helpful. he will give you good advice not only on your HW but also outside of class. He really helps me and take me to a next level. Also, he is a creative guy, always wants us to think outside of the box! LOVE HIM!
Pratt is a cool guy, full of energy and passion for what he teaches. The point of the class I took with him was to generate new ideas and support them with convincing evidence, which is not easy all the time. While difficult, Pratt will usually try to help you. Read the texts/do the work, and listen to what he has to say; he's very intelligent.
He was good teacher. But, This class was hard to get an A.
Pratt is a life changing teacher. Super inspiring person. His classes were very valuable to me. Yes, you'll need to work hard, but he'll also make you develop your thinking.
Inspirational teacher that challenges you. If you like writing, and pushing your writing skills to the next level, he is the one. If you are lazy, this may not be your choice. As he said, you only get as much as you put in.
I 100% say you should take this teacher if you get the chance. He always is willing to help and all the assignments we do are interesting. Although there is a lot of writing in this class it is all very personalized so it doesn't feel like a chore. He is a fair grader and gives great feedback he also relates everything to your music career.
Trust me, if you don't take Pratt while you are at Berklee, you are missing out a great opportunity! He is the life changer, inspiration and support! He not only cares about your academic performance, but also about you yourself! He is the gem of Berklee!
DO NOT let your bias against all subjects that aren't music related affect your interest in his classes. He will probably make you hate him on purpose in your first classes and then surprisingly become your favorite teacher, mentor and make you engage with his class without you even realizing it. Highly recommended for high IQ and ADHD students.
Id def say Pratt is the one of the teachers that changed my life, I learned how to not be boring and how to have interesting convos w/ people, in class he would encourage you to think in every perceptive. Seriously if you are a international student be sure to take his class, you will learn a ton of things that will help you in your daily life.
No matter what grade you will receive, if you take this guy you will never forget him. He is one of the few teachers (and when I say few I mean it) that deserve to teach at such an expensive college as Berklee.
One of the most inspirational teachers I've ever had. You'll read a lot but the discussions in class are really interesting and he's comprehensive and gives good feedback.
Such a GEM. He really pushes you to think critically. His classes will change your life and help to shape you, as long as you're open to making mistakes in the classroom! (if not, WHERE?) No matter where you are, he has value to add on to it. While it may seem daunting at first, your confidence and sense of self will GROW after his classes.
The whole 'change the way you think' thing everyone here is talking about, yes, it's actually true. I believe that he was probably the best professor I will ever have. The Far From Home material itself is actually quite dull but I think I'd take a class on the history of latrine architecture if he were the teacher.
Just don't.
Too much unpredictable. I never know what to expect or what to prepare. And his OL is a mess.
The connection Pratt has with his students is as astounding as it is rewarding. He's one of the most influential figures I've had during my Berklee journey- and a lot of it came from visiting his office hours regularly. Make use of them! These office hours with him helped me pave a unique path and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have had them.
You definitely got lucky if you have him as a professor - not easy and will not take your bullshit, but just do the work and be genuinely interested and you'll be fine. A great person, and there for you in real ways if you ask, ie just go to his office hour which i heavily recommend (he stresses the importance of his office hours as well).
Pratt is one of the best teachers I have ever had. You'll have to work hard and he will push you to do that, but it's really worth it. The classes are much more than just English, and it has always been interesting, enriching and with positive vibes and lots of humor. Highly recommended!
If you take Pratt's class then you're so lucky! He is amazing! His class is very fun. And GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! As many as possible! You will get additional help on coursework, projects, and more. You definitely will improve yourself. You will have great quality time with him. He will be a life changer and a great mentor. Highly recommended!
[LENS]Pratt Bennet is exceptional. No matter who you are or what you do, he does his best to help you discover new things about yourself, music, & world. And trust me, if you attend his office hours, not only will you walk out wiser than when you came in, but you'll be better equipped for the inevitable risks and challenges of the music industry.
Pratt Bennet is one of my favorite teachers at Berklee. Not only was his class inspirational but I was also able to visit him at his office hours which was 100% beneficial. Pratt has helped me navigate my experience in Berklee and I was able to also stay in touch with him after graduating and get some good life advices. Pratt is a teacher FOR LIFE.
I had Pratt as my ESL teacher in my first semester and then for another liberal art. Pratt is simply an awesome, inspirational and great educator. As an international student sometimes is hard to navigate a new culture but Pratt challenged us and taught us how to act like a pro in our industry since the first moment. I totally recommend him!!!
Prof Bennet is one of the most inspiring people I've ever met. He really helps you set your goals for your career and gives you the tools to achieve them, guides you through the process and the next steps during his office hours. Semesters after taking his classes, I'm still using his methods and can't thank him enough. TAKE HIM, you won't regret!
Pratt is one of a very few teachers at Berklee I genuinely respect, admire and will remember for the rest of my life. We used to meet every week outside class during his office hours and he was helping me achieve my professional goals in terms of proper communication, writing emails, prioritising goals, getting into a master program and much more!
I took Pratt's class in my 1st semester and I still think of the lessons I learnt in his class, years later! He an inspiring teacher who cares for his students well-being and the life-lessons he shares in class are relevant and important for students of all ages and backgrounds. My time at Berklee was more valuable for having been in his class.
He's such a tough grader. DON'T EXPECT high/normal grade, though he's respectful. Everyone NEEDS to speak during his class, which I can't understand at all. DON'T TAKE HIM if you have a lot stuff outside of the class. I don't think it's fair compared to my effort and my final grade.
A class with Prof. Bennet is not about the course, but about you. He inspires all of his students to find a spot within the industry. For the students that struggle with english he is a great teacher. He teaches you new english and how you can directly apply it when working within the music industry.
Taking a class with Prof. Bennet is not about ESL, but about the student. He is extremely inspirational and wants his students to think where they fit in the music industry. For students that struggle with english, he is a great teacher. He teaches you new english and how you can apply is while working within the industry. I highly suggest him!
Prof. Bennet is absolutely one of the best professors I've had at Berklee. His involved insight on the music industry and teaching style really reflect how experienced he is and his communication skills and lessons in class really helped me develop my career and goals.
Pratt has great expectations of all his students. The good thing is, he lets you know what he expects, and pushes you to break through. If you want a class that greatly customizes to your own goals, inspires you every week, and will leave you with life lessons outside of conventional academia, Pratt is for you.
Pratt is the best teacher for me. He is an interesting teacher, taught us grammars, oral skills is very important in his class, gave us so many advices about English skills. I really enjoy communication with him about my career development. He is not only a teacher, but also a great life coach for me. I will definitely take his ESL3 next semester.
I took Pratt's LHUM400 class in the spring. There is a decent amount of work, but it is work that will help you for your life. He asks the hard questions because he doesn't want you to fall flat on your face when you enter the real world. Highly recommend if you want to prepare yourself for your career. Many success stories from his students.
LHUM-400 is possibly the most important class I've taken at Berklee, and Pratt was the ideal professor for it. He will push you outside your comfort zone to reach your true potential, and he will help you every step of the way. You'll have to work hard and be creative, but what you'll get out of this class is invaluable. Your career will thank you!
Professor Pratt has a wealth of knowledge and resources that he pushes his students to use. He makes you work hard and to challenge yourself in ways one might have never have thought of. His assignments will make you uncomfortable, or even scared, yet you will be thankful in the long run for the foundations this work provides in your career.
Pratt is an amazing English professor.Classes are fun and interactive, with engaging games that help us learn. He has a great sense of humor and knows how to teach effectively.he provides valuable support and helps us progress in various areas of life. His guidance improves our thinking, learning methods.Pratt is our favorite English professor.
Pratt classes are fun and interactive, with engaging games that help us learn. He has a great sense of humor and knows how to teach effectively. Beyond English, he provides valuable support and helps us progress in various areas of life. His guidance improves our thinking and learning methods. Overall, Pratt is our favorite English professor.
I had the best experience in Prof Bennet's course. His entertaining attitude makes you want to pay attention, and you can see in every lesson that he is very knowledgeable about the industry. I owe him so much of what I've learned about networking and my professional development. (I landed an internship thanks to the skills I learned in this class)
I attended Pratt's ESL class and highly recommend everyone to take his English classes at some point. Pratt is not only a wonderful teacher, but also a mentor to me. Each time I have been so excited to attend Pratt's classes and the methods he uses in teaching are outstanding and unlike those of other professors. HE IS THE BEST NO DOUBTS!!!!!!!!!!
This course is anything but "life after graduation." Pratt has crafted this course as an introduction into surviving in the music industry. The concepts he teaches you, through hands-on-learning, are designed to push you out of your comfort zone, think critically, and learn from your mistakes, all while focusing on perfecting image as an artist
Taking Pratt's class was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences at this college. Instead of having pre-defined material for the class, there are basic guidelines and projects and everything is structured around what YOU want to bring to the table. This can be scary, but by the end I felt like I truly grew as a professional.
Pratt is an awesome teacher, he taught his students how to be interesting and interested, how to ask the best questions. As well as teaching English, he is dedicated and always helping his students for any subject.
One of my favorite professors of all time. He not only made classes extremely interesting by his enthusiasm and relevant stories but he also challenged me in the best possible way. He would ask great challenging questions and talk about things related to our future careers. I was deeply inspired, encouraged and excited to come to every class.10/10!
Professor Pratt Bennet is the best educator I have ever seen! I have taken both his LENS and ESL classes and these classes, with his adjustments, offered me not only English skills but also significant mindsets of participating in industries and interpersonal communications. Also, his class is full of laughter. Challenging, meaningful, and fun.
Pratt is the most interesting professor I've ever had, and would inspire a lot of my philosophical and psychological thoughts, as well as impart a lot of his life lessons and funny stories.
HE TALKS WAY TOO MUCH FOR YOUR OWN GOOD
If he doesn't like you, you have no chance of getting an A. At best, he'll give you a B. In some cases, he might even insult you or pick on you in class He even said everyone's grades weren't important because you wouldn't going on to graduate school. He'd say a lot of things like "this is for your own good," which was extremely uncomfortable.
