Fun, interesting professor. Kept it lively and really explained the hard stuff well. VERY helpful and accessible.
Really cares. Wants everyone to do well and will help outside of class--if you ask him. He's funny and he's fine. I love a man in a tie and he wears them all the time.
I took dr.babu for orgo. He's great and lots of fun. He doesn't make you feel stupid for not knowing stuff and he really wants you to learn the stuff so he talks about how all of the orgo shows up everyday around you. It's neat and I thought taking orgo would be hell but he made it fun. I highly reccomedn him. He's nice and cute too.
dont take him. He's terrible at teaching chemistry. he hasn't been teaching long, and it's very obvious.
don't hate on dr.b! he's the easiest teacher i've had to understand!! way organized too. not easy though! he's kicking my a** right now...
very nice man. Great teacher. He wants you to get a good grade so lab is super easy. If you have the chance definately take him.
Best Chem 1A teacher out there! Totally cares about teaching the material and wants students to get good grades. Will help you anyway he can ... even staying after class to review.
Seriously, whoever didn't like Dr. Babu probably just hates life in general. He knows his stuff, he's always helpful, and he's a cool guy.
Babu's great. best lab instructor hands down.
VERY interesting class! His tests are definitely challenging, but he's pretty easy on the labs, and lectures are usually very enjoyable. And get this: a chemistry instructor with a sense of humor! Don't skip classes and do read the book if you hope to do well.
Great Prof.!
Dr. Babu makes chemistry less hurtful. the class is hard in general but he teaches it in a way thats very organized and clear. he's willin to help you whenever you need it and is very understanding and patient. i highly recommend him! just do the studying from his notes and study his quizzes right before a test and your set
Dr Babu keeps Chemistry interesting! He is very helpful and it pays to ask him questions!
Upbeat and helpful.
He is an amazing teacher! the material seems like a different language but he help you in every way possible. before after class, office hours and during class ask all the questions you want! he is a real person who wants you to do well! A+++ I love chemistry because of him!
he is awesome. great teacher. made ochem fun and interesting. smart guy and super helpful. dont fall behind!
Great taecher, funny guy. Definitely recommend taking his class.
Excellent professor! I would take him again for 201B or organic. Super helpful and a really good personality as well
5 Stars isn't enough to give this guy for helpfulness. Dr. Babu is hands-down the most helpful teacher you will ever have in your college career.Hard class,I wouldn't take it if I didn't have to. However, if you must take it, take Dr. Babu's class.P.S. We set off the fire alarm in lab because the teacher wanted to light a gummy bear on fire. Ha ha!
Chemistry itself is a really hard subject. But Babu made it interesting by relating to everyday things, and you can tell he really really knows his stuff and wants his students to succeed. If you need to take chemistry at Cuesta. Make sure to take it with Babu!
I had Babu a few semesters ago and I must say that he remains my favorite Chemistry teacher. He was clear, concise, helpful, funny, and kept the class interested. Overall a great teacher
Dr.Babu is an awesome teacher! he made the class very entertaining and did a good job keeping me from day dreaming during a long class with out a break. He knows is stuff too, the only thing I didn't like about this class was for me I felt the tests were to different from the homework and were hard.
My favorite teacher I've had so far. This is a difficult class, and he has no intention to convince you otherwise, but he is very helpful in explaining the material. He knows how to mix in hilarious anecdotes and keeps me more interested than any other teacher; and I don't even like chemistry! If you take Chemistry, take Babu.
I think he is a really cool guy outside of the class. However, the tests don't match us with the homework whatsoever. There is no study guide for any tests, which isn't bad but he is unclear as to what is essential to get an A. I read these reviews with great optimism but once we had the first test all of that was gone. Don't get your hopes up...
He is a nice guy, and helpful, for the most part. However, his tests are almost unnecessarily hard at times, there are no study guides. His quizzes are fairly difficult, and are also timed. I do feel I learned a lot in the class, but I don't feel my grade accurately represented how hard I was trying, or how much time I was putting in.
Praveen is amazing and till this day one of my favorite professors. He made me like Chemistry and go on to take O Chem (which I never thought I'd do). I took the Baxley's and got a C (but worked so hard for it), then had Praveen for Chem B and got an A. Clarity and lectures are wonderful; so helpful. Would recommend him to everyone!
Dr. Babu is a fantastic teacher. Explains everything very well, is very enthusiastic about helping students individually, and is HILARIOUS. Very brilliant man. He mostly has great examples of real life things to accompany his lectures, some of which are hilarious anecdotes. Chemistry isn't "easy", and he doesn't sugar coat it. Study A
This dude is all jokes! Can get a bit sensitive when class is too quiet, hence, cutting his lectures short. Expects students to understand concepts behind what he teaches *ehem* beware of test questions relating to real-life situations *ehem*. I'm pretty sure he curved my grade lol. Very helpful in labs. Does NOT let you make copies of answer keys.
What can I say? It's chemistry and he's good at teaching it.
Wow. I don't like chemistry, or at least I didn't until I took Babu's class. It is interesting, he's really helpful, and he remembers what it was like to be a student. He teaches you how to do well in all your classes, but of course all the stuff you need to do well in chemistry too. His class is hard. Put in your work and you'll be good.
He treats students who ask questions like theyre stupid. He complains when no one participates, but as soon as someone does he ridicules them. Doesnt explain the material well. Tests are not organized, there is no review, no study guide, and you had better master every little concept because the exams are full of unlectured tricks and surprises
The last person who rated must've been on something crazy, Babu is a great teacher and if you show up to all lectures and approach him in office hours whenever you are stuck, then he will go above and beyond to help out! I would take more classes with Babu if I could, OCHEM next time he's teaching the series. He doesn't complain, just jokes around!
Dr. Babu presents difficult material with grace in his lectures. He makes chemistry interesting and ties new concepts to existing ideas we are familiar with. Also he gives off a friendly, approachable vibe. Chem is a tough subject and you really have to understand it to apply it in real life. If you did poorly in his class, it's your fault alone.
Just got my grade. It was exactly what I calculated so no surprises when he grades. He's great to talk to and teaches really well. Lots of people think he's funny too. I guess that's true, but I don't remember him spending too much time joking around. 201B is a hard class and we went over a ton of material. Very organized & clear. Take him.
I'm impressed. I never wrote one of these before but I thought I should because I have Babu in Paso and the computers were down one day and he lectured for two hours from his head. It was AMAZING! Super clear and helpful and he draws on the board like an artist. We were all just blown away at how much this guy knows. Best prof @ Cuesta! No lie
He's a great lecturer and tries to make the class as entertaining as he can. He gives good examples and insight into problems and other ways to view them to make it easier for students to grasp
I've taken Dr. Babu's Chem 201A, 201B, and now 211. His lectures are engaging, informative, and entertaining. The labs are designed to really solidify the concepts from lecture. Materials are laid out in a nice progression. He uses everyday applications to familiarize us with what we're learning. You'll love chemistry if he's your professor.
Took Chem201A and Chem 201B with Babu and enjoyed both classes. His lectures are interesting, engaging and makes me consider a Chemistry major. He finds ways to explain the concepts he teaches in ways that are easy to understand. I am confident in saying that Babu is one of the best professors I have had at Cuesta College.
No study guides, no cheat sheets, and no mercy! First off, he is an awesome teacher and definitely knows his stuff. But he requires lots of memorization and has some difficult tests. Some things on the tests were from outside the chapter, even ahead of where we were! The online homework is fairly challenging and time consuming but is pretty solid.
Professor Babu knows his stuff and gives amazing lecture. The only thing negative I can say about Professor Babu is that he does not give study guides out for tests and quizzes but he does hint at what is going to be on the tests during lectures so go to them! He relates topics to real world situations so it makes the class more interesting.
Great lectures! He makes chem fun. He encourages students to ask questions. He tries to explain chem using everyday life. The tests could be bit tricky with all the multiple choice. Quizzes are fair game. He tells you jokes and forms a good connection with his students. Made me understand chem even without taking chem 201FL.
I just finished Dr. Babus summer chem 201b class today. This class was very easy. Lectures were asynchronous and we could watch them whenever. There were 8 easy quizzes and he dropped the lowest grade. There were 4 labs (basically only calculations) and he dropped the lowest grade. 2 tests and a final exam that also asked us basic questions.
I took CHEM 201B with Babu at Cuesta College. The assignments were calculation heavy and there was extensive use of Excel for four of the labs. He was available on Zoom a lot which was essential to making it through the class. There were 8 quizzes and 3 exams. I'd say it was a lot of work but I feel ready for the next chem class so that's good.
I loved this class! Dr. Babu is a great professor and made this class easy to learn, especially since I find it harder to actually learn things online. From my experience, I found this class to be easier than my introduction to chemistry and first semester general chemistry classes. Every assignment is done online and its all super easy.
I took this class online due to the Wuhan-Virus outbreak, so I cannot speak on what Dr. Babu is like in a normal classroom setting. This was not a difficult class by any stretch of the imagination. The most difficult part of the class for me was learning how to use Microsoft Excel for the labs. Homework, quizzes, tests, and labs are all online.
I took Dr. Babus 6 week online summer class and I really liked it. 100 percent of the material is done online. The homework is done through MasteringChemistry, the quizzes and tests are done through Canvas.
Even though this course was completely online, Babu still made it engaging. It was honestly not a difficult course at all. In my opinion, the teacher is the one who can determine whether they want to make a course hard for students to succeed in or not. Babu made this course extremely easy to succeed in and practically gave out As if we tried.
This class was pretty hard but he really tried to make it so everyone can understand the material. Videos were all asynchronous, meaning we could watch them whenever. However, there were multiple quizzes a week on these videos so we stay on top of it. Exams were a little harder than the quizzes. Labs taught me excel. He is a nice guy.
This was my favorite class I took at Cuesta college. It was fast paced and very fun. The quizzes and exams were kind of difficult and were heavily based on whether you understood the homework. The labs were also pretty hard. There were lots of calculations. I worked very hard this summer for an A in the class and Praveen really aided me!
Chemistry with Babu was hard for me because chemistry is a hard class. Although this class was pretty hard, I like how it was organized. We did not have to attend Zoom class meetings. Instead, he posted videos on Canvas and we could watch them whenever we wanted to. Homework was on MasteringChemistry and it was easy. The tests were based off HW!
All I gotta say is that we were not proctored on quizzes and tests.
Chem201a was hard, but Babu posts amazing lecture videos for an online class. He uses slides, video examples, and writes out all sorts of diagrams and problems on the videos. Super helpful in office hours too. The tests and quizzes are monitored and he caught 3? people cheating, but not Zoom proctored. I got a B (didn't cheat!). Good class.
He is a nice guy, but it seems like he struggled to adapt to teaching online during pandemic. The online labs were terrible & overly complicated. Babu didnt prep us for labs so I often felt lost & spent way too many hours on lab assignments. Exams were not proctored (that I know of). Ebook is free when you subscribe to required online HW program.
Very organized. I took him "asynchronously" for chem201a. Very clear and straightforward. The class is hard because it is online, but once I started going to office hours on Zoom, the class because a lot of manageable work. It was much better than my UC chem. He helped me a ton! Nice guy too. Going to take 201b from him too for Spring 21.
Dr. Babu is amazing. His lectures are great and the exams and quizzes are very much like the online homework. His class takes a lot of time but is not too difficult if you do everything that he recommends.
I really wish I could take chemistry in person with this professor because he is so bright and entertaining! I feel like I learned a lot while in his class online. It's a good balance of labs and tests, just watch the lectures (pretty long), read the textbook, and do the online homework and you'll be fine.
Dr. babus class was really chill and easy. Completely asynchronous and I honestly preferred it to be this way. I just read his lecture slides to study for his quizzes and tests and did well on them. Quizzes and tests were all multiple choice and were open book/note. Labs were kind of tricky, attend his office hours to ask questions on labs.
I took 201A and 201B with Babu and liked both! Ive never been good at chem but he is really good at explaining things and I never get bored watching his lectures. He takes some time to respond to messages and grade labs but you will get everything you need on time. Could not recommend him more! Especially for those who don't easily click with chem.
Professor Babu is such a chill guy. There are no required meetings, which makes everything easier! Learn through powerpoints and easy homework. An A is guaranteed if you put in the work. I know some people cheat, but they get caught! Prof Babu also assigns super short and interesting labs. I enjoyed them. Tests are all multiple choice. Quite easy.
Can everyone saying he's easy stop?! I guess if you cheat, but I did not and 201B was HARD. He does a good job with the online thing, but learning everything without being in class is hard. I would say people are mistaking FAIR for easy. Real talk. It's a fully online class so you are on your own unless you go office hours. He's helpful there.
Praveen is amazing! His chemistry class was really easy compared to my 201A class. He used lecture videos that were recorded from summer 2020 and they were helpful. He was always available during office hours to help me. The exams were not bad, there was no time limit and I could always find my answers online no problem!
Take this class if youre looking for a work-heavy part time job, with no other classes. 25-30 hours per week is absurd when students have jobs and other classes.
There were at least 2 lectures posted every week and each one averaged at an hour and a half. He is passionate about Chemistry but he often went off on tangents. Just about every week he posted homework or an experiment that contained material that we had not learned yet. He never answered my emails either. Lots of memorizing and he's unorganized.
I went into this class hyped because of the previous reviews. However, I am severely disappointed, to say the least. The lecture videos DO NOT correspond to the homework, quizzes, or exams. The questions on them are extremely random. Textbook is not enough. You can tell the class is on pandemic asynchronous autopilot, he doesn't respond to emails.
Class was not bad. Definitely a university level class. Lots of work.
This class is HARD. It is not an easy A or even B. It does get a bit easier halfway thru. Lab material isn't on test, strictly lecture. One brief example isn't enough for me to fully grasp a topic. Be ready to teach yourself. Its a 5 credit class for a reason and half the class dropped.
He just wasn't for me. I want handout notes in class, take home homework, and even study guides or practice tests. Didn't do any of that. He lectures, but then a different teacher for lab. They were never on the same page and we would be expected to do labs before we even learned about the stuff in lecture. Good person and caring, but strict.
This class is made of lectures, labs, and exams. Very little homework, which is a negative for me because there was no way to really practice any concepts before exams. Dr. Babu is nice, and his lectures are engaging at times but boring other times. One really nice thing was that he posts lectures online if you miss one.
Energetic kind and really tries to help students learn chemistry AND how to study.
Babu is one of the few old school profs who teaches the old way (lots of lecture) but does it in a way that uses Canvas well and doesn't make you feel like you are sitting in a super long talk. He treats students like adults and the class like a conversation. I got the sense he actually wants to help--which is huge.
Very kind and helpful during office hours. Unfortunately, the content on his tests rarely matched the lecture videos and I would say that studying the material longer and doing practice problems does not adequately prepare you for the exams. Also, good luck getting him to respond to your emails :)
Get ready for long tangents and no learning. DO NOT TAKE IT IF YOU NEED TO TAKE THE MCAT!!! Quiz questions that had nothing to do with the lectures or textbook. The only way to learn anything or succeed was to read the textbook. Waste of time.
Avoid Dr Babu's class. Many other chem professors are much better. He is a nice guy and is funny but not a great professor. I felt like I had to self teach, and his exams are very hard and tricky. He'll put things on the exam that he never even taught. Also he is a tough grader with partial credit.
Serious students should take Babu. He said at the start that this was a hard class but he would work with us to help us get the most out of it. I learned so much. He listed what to study on the board before each test. Study that in groups. Explains things great, highly organized. Funny, nice, patient. Highly recommend him if you are transferring.
I had 3 different profs at Cuesta for chem and I'm going to say they're all good, but Dr. Babu was the best. Good: tests are on what is covered in class. I would know, I showed up. Lectures are posted online too so people are in and out. Makes it tough to connect to form study groups. Bad: tough questions that cover 2 or more topics in one.
Professor Babu is a solid professor, one that I quite liked. Although the difficulty is more about chemistry than how he teaches it, there's a lot to learn, so don't underestimate this class. If you read the textbook, do the homework, and adequately prep for labs, and study, you'll be fine. Chemistry tutors are good too. It's a grind but doable.
He goes on tangents a lot and it makes it hard to understand the lectures at times. The pearson HW is nothing like exams, use the physical book problems. He wasn't bad but i wouldn't glaze him and say he's great. Just be prepared to go over a lot of problems on your own.
Aside from having unnecessarily little time for four quizzes worth 20% of your total grade, this class is very straightforward. Study hard for exams; they are comprehensive and cover EVERYTHING covered in the lecture. Don't skip labs because your grade will drop several %. Talk to Babu if you're having a hard time. He is very understanding.
Babu is the first science teacher I have ever had who knows everything, but makes it so you can learn it if you try. Doesn't talk over your head and he's super welcoming in class and after class. I was so nervous to take his class but now I'm glad I did and know I can do things if I plan and put the time in. Thanks Dr. Babu!
Dr Babu is a nice person but his class is not there to make you succeed. There is not clear direction given for quizzes or exams so it is near impossible to know what to expect. What is taught in class was not in the exams.
201a is like learning a new language but I didn't feel that Dr Babu wanted his student to succeed. It wasn't made clear what was in the exams or quizzes and the material online covers questions not in the exam. There is no past exams to practice so the generated ones are your only hope but again not the same style as in the exam.
Babu writes exactly what to expect on a test or quiz on the board the class before the quiz or test. He trys to teach how to prepare, but you have to do the work. I never worked so hard in a hard class and appreciated it when I got good grades as I did in Babu's class. Definitely a university level class.
Quiz and exam topics are outlined, but each chapter in the book has many subtopics and practice questions, making it hard to know what to focus on. With no past papers or clear direction, studying becomes overwhelming. The lab taught by a different instructor, was out of sync with lectures, poorly organized, worksheets were always returned late.
I enjoyed learning more about chemistry in this class, however with the homework only 5% of your final grade and the lab 20% you really have to know your stuff to pass the exams and quizzes. The topics included are outlined before but it could be more clear.
Great professor. Hard class. Low key go talk to him for the hook up! It's a grind but you learn a lot.
Lecturers were not always great and dull at times to learn from. no practice exams given out, just look at the examples in the book - which are not even close to the exams/quizzes.
Take Babu if you are a STEM major. There are easier profs, but Babu is the most knowledgeable. Exam prep problem sets were clutch. I would have been cooked without them.
So I took Dr. Babu for chem 201a last year and honestly, he was nice and funny but I thought too challenging for a community college class. THEN I took chem 201b and TOTALLY get him. I was WAY better off than other students who didn't take 201a with him. I thought I would come back and give him his flowers. Tough, but fair. He prepares you!
Not feeling chemistry at all, but Babu made it interesting. That's massive praise from me. I do not like chemistry. Too bad he doesn't teach a chill easy class like music appreciation. He would be the best for a low key class! If you like chem and stuff he's that guy.
Babu gives students all the tools to succeed, but makes you work for it. I can see how that might turn off sone students, but I appreciated being treated like an adult. Pay attention on the first day and then make the call if you want to take him. He lays it all out for you. Incredibly kind, caring, and smart. Great professor for STEM path.
Just take him. It's chem so yea. His class is organized and if you do the stuff he tells you to do you'll do fine. If you want fill in worksheets don't take him. If you have to take more chem then take his class and you'll prolly be good.
The most upsetting class I have EVER taken. Homework never lined up with lecture material and exam content. Everyone complained of a constant disconnect (both temporally and content wise) between what was taught in lecture, what was assigned on homework, and what we were expected to know for exams. Exams covered NEW content and trick questions. :'(
Only the most basic examples were grazed over in class, Dr. Babu would place difficult problems on exams that we had never seen, and have homework for practice assigned the week following an exam. We were set up to fail.
Exams 35% quizzes 25% (get to drop 1) lab 20% final 20% & homework 5%. Smart all around good professor. HW assigned day 1 so do it before it's due/definitely before tests or quizzes. Pro: Gives out study guides for tests 3 and 4 when the material gets harder. Con: not for exams 1 and 2. Literally recommended him to my friends for next semester.
Babu is the worst professor I've ever had. Exams are nothing like HW, not enough practice resources, only reads off of slides, little to no in class examples, + random material can be on exams. The class feels like its set you up for failure. I've even survived Clark physics with an A and you couldn't pay me to redo Babu's class. Take anyone else.
I'm glad I took his class. I was waitlisted first and got in end of week 2. Babu helped me catch up and was really nice. Helpful all semester long. He knows a lot of science so class is interesting most of the time. I like that it was straightforward and organized. Do the work, pay attention, and it's fine. I worried about bad reviews for nothing.
Very difficult Exams that had questions we had never seen before, homework did not align with anything we were tested on. Examples gone over in class were 10x easier than exam questions. He definitely could do a better job with preparing us for exams with better in class examples and HW that aligns with what we get tested on.
Dr. Babu is thorough and makes difficult concepts accessible. His tests are difficult, but if you study you will be prepared. Homework is not enough. I would have been cooked if I didn't go see him each week. He doesn't have tutors but is available after class for detailed help.
Like what many ratings have said, it wasn't clear what would be on the exams. Exams on the multiple choice would be on things that I haven't seen. I wished he wouldv'e helped us with more practice problems during lectures and clearly say what questions would be on the exam. I wouldn't recommend.
Hard tests but his lectures are fun
Very good teacher. I didn't think his class was that hard. I never had a professor tell me what was going to be on tests so I'm not going to fault him for that. Babu wants to help students get a good grade and is nice so that's enough for me.
Best option for chem201a at Cuesta.
