Cooper is one of the nicest teachers you'll ever come across. The work load is pretty light and her tests are easy. Although, the class can get rather boring at times... I still recommend
ms. cooper is and extremely intelligent woman her class was very interesting and i really feel i got alot out of it.
She is really nice but half of the time I can't understand a word she is saying.
Very nice, interesting lectures most of the time. Very thorough.
She's very nice. And the class is very interesting. Her tests are hard, and so are the papers.
a lot of reading! for a ge class i think she takes it too serious, she is very nice, but the class is extremely boring, her tests and papers she grades hard
She is absolutely wonderful. I adore this woman. She is awesome, and her class is so fun!
Prof. cooper is an extremely difficult teacher. I was a lost freshman. She uses a big vocabulary and she is very analytical about everything. Papers can be difficult topics and test are only harder. But if you continuously put 110% into this class, you can end up with a decent grade at the end of semester.
It was apparent that she really enjoyed teaching. She was extremely helpful & cared for her students. Her tests were not difficult -do the readings assigned & you will have no trouble. Two major papers were assigned & the topics were interesting. No one should get less than a B in this class. If you are struggling with the writing she will help you
Basically the whole class consisted of reading literature at home, then listening to her lecture about its themes, metaphors, historical background, etc. She made the impt. topics very clear, and thats what she tested on. She showed 2 movies which spiced it up. She can be a little tough on essay grading. (there were 3 or 4) Overall I recommend her.
Very helpful. very interesting ideas and analysis of text. Although not really that clear with how she wants the papers, she does grade very fairly. i highly recommend her.
Basically if you read, take notes on the reading (from her lectures) and then regurgitate the material back into all of the papers, you can pass. She does grade kind of difficult. There are two quizes, a midterm, a (four essay) final, two papers, and reading every single night. Also a group project, kinda lame if you get stuck with slackers.
I LOVED GOING TO COOPER'S CLASS. SHE IS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT THE READINGS. IF YOU TAKE GOOD NOTES & SEMI-READ THE ASSIGNMENTS YOU CAN PASS WITH A B. THERE ARE 2 QUIZs, A SIMPLE TAKE HOME MIDTERM AND A FINAL THAT CONSIST OF 4 2-PAGE ESSAYS. AGAIN, IF YOU TAKE NOTES ON HER LECTURES, YOU CAN PRETTY MUCH ACE THE CLASS. SHE IS REALLY NIce. Pick her!
You need the book, alot of work required for a level 100 class. I didn't read every night.. just try to make a friend to slip the work, thats what I did!
so boring., try to stay awake. too much work. use books way too much. alot of reading.if you take her in the morning you'll fall asleep.
I thought her choice of literature was fantastic; however, her teaching skills are not great. The class had so much potential, but I ended up hating it. For all those who need it easy, take this class. There is a lot of reading, but she grades pretty easy.
This professor expects you to be in class and participate (mostly wants you to paraphrase what happened in the stories you read for homework). She expects a lot of reading, but it is all EASY reading. She is very nice and gives you all the answers for the essays (detailed answers) in her lectures and reviews.
Very helpful and a wonderful teacher! The readings are interesting and the exams are simple.some easy quizzes with 2 in class essay exams. But if you do not read the what is required, you will be lost and the class will be useless. Great teacher
Prof. Cooper is very passionate about teaching, but can tend to talk off tangents, and it's hard to understand the message of what she's lecturing about. You only have 2 papers, 1 presentation, and a lot of reading to do, midterm and final is multiple choice and essay questions.
Easy class, but you still learn a lot. Cooper can be kind of intimidating at times, but she means well. The class can be kind of boring, but can be very interesting as well. You watch a few movies.
shes pretty cool. there is a lot of reading though. our class was super lazy so she started giving us pop quizzes on the stoires. she wants you to participate and hear your interpretations of the stories. she doesnt care if your answer is stupid as long as you say something. she sometimes takes attendance.
It was a fun & easyclass if you do ur work. 2 5pg essays midterm and final and like two quizzes. She provides a st. guide Also 20min group presntation. She goes n depth n to da lit so just take good notes and use this 4the essays and tests. Overall TAKE HER! u will also learn lots. She is very nice and heplful too. Topics r interesting. : )
great - cares
Wow this class is such a joke.. she is a horrible lecturer and I swear has ADD.. She jumps from topic to topic.. impossible to take notes. but tests are so easy.. the entire class got an A on the midterm and everyone got As or Bs on the paper.. mandatory attendance, but can easily leave in middle of class.. Its such a Joke capstone
I really enjoyed this teacher. She is very interested in the subject and its easy to recieve an A in the class. I got a 99% on my midterm
speak out, give your opinions+read+do the work=A. she's a little tough but she makes it clear what she expects you to know and how she likes things done.
I hated this class. I dreaded going to this class, but attendance was mandatory. I don't even get lit credit for this class. It was a waste of my units this semester. I would have much rather taken another lit class that counted as lit for ge credit. The plays were boring and I only read a few, tried to read all of them, but they were boring.
she loves what she teaches and speaks in a way we can understand the subject. doesnt give much ehlp for quizes or midterms but make sure you write down all she says and writes down! THATS your study guide =] she likes to see the students get challenged
She's fairly simple. i suggest you sit in front of the class though since her clarity isn't as great as other teachers. Her notes are pretty messy too. Everything she says though is on the tests so it's good idea to take notes. Also a lot of reading, short stories though. tests are essays. this class based on how good u write. Nice teacher though.
Attendance is mandatory, she is sometimes hard to understand so sit close, take notes and be prepared to speak in class about readings. I dreaded this class when I registered for it but ended up loving it. Really interesting discussions and topics, you just have to be willing to put in the work.
Cooper is an excellent professor. She doesn't waste anytime, gets straight to the point and her intelligence really resonates. She gives a lot of work, but for the most part it's very doable and often interesting. She gives you everything you need to know for quizzes and tests.
She is a great teacher. She has a thick accent so sit close a listen closely. do all the reading because it will help A LOT. she's fairly an easy grader if you know the stuff. take notes. she jumps around a bit but it still helps. overall she's a good teacher and is recommended.
Shes a really nice teacher. There are long essays on the midterm and finals, but she gives you the questions already so you just have to be prepared. Overall just go to her class, and write notes because she basically gives you the answers.
Love this Class. She is very helpful & knows her stuff. Easy class, just be there and take notes. Her essays and tests are simple. I enjoyed this class a lot.
I love this teacher!! You really have to be able to understand the literature without relying on class notes, though. She is so sweet, I would definitely recommend her.
Pravina Cooper is my favorite professor that I've had at CSULB. Going into a classroom and feeling yourself get smarter as the professor speaks is what education is supposed to be about. I apply the lessons I learned in my CWL-161 class to the upper division classes I'm taking now- she taught me a whole new way of thinking and viewing the world, an

class is boring at times. stories are not interesting at all. she is a nice teacher, easy grader on papers. take the class if you want a somewhat easy A/B
Tons of reading. Some are interesting, some aren't. It gets harder as the semester goes on. The final was insane. 3 essays and four short answers.
Read, not very challenging. Write good essays. Once again, read. A.
It takes a good student to recognize a great teacher
Honestly, Dr. Cooper is cool. The only issue I had with her is that fact that all of your quizzes and the first paper before you first test "IS" your final grade in that class. I finished that class with a B only because I slacked in the beginning. She doesn't really grade the last paper or the final. Do well on them, but be in study-mood 1st day.
I thought this class was going to be much more interesting that it turned out to be. It was actually pretty boring. Lots of reading and not always the most interesting of plays. Very specific in the work she was looking for.
Educational, committed to the subject matter, thought provoking... need I say more? Yes you have to work in this class, but it's 100% worth it... Why? b/c you get an education
Prof Cooper is an average teacher. Class is boring but it's important that you go. A lot of reading but you could get a lot of the stories from sparknotes. she's good at explaining the stories but when she writes on the board her handwriting is horrible and almost pointless. 2 three page essays and a few quizzes along with a midterm and final. She's an easy grader. Take the class for an easy B
While Dr. Cooper is a brilliant lecturer whose passion for literature is very contagious, her lack of organizational skills and high expectations regarding attendance and performance is a big turn off. The class itself was so-and-so, but be prepared for lots of essay writing and reading, as is typical for any Literature class.
Absolutely brilliant professor, however, the class is a bit difficult. Be prepared to read heavily, listen to long lectures, and write some tough papers. She is quite helpful though, in her lectures, she basically gives out all the answers for the midterm and final. Somewhat easy grader, as long as you put effort, and I mean real effort, easy A.
very easy teacher... just read the materials and attend class... she gives you a study guide... only 2 papers 2 do... a lot of reading in this class(recommended for the midterm and final)... and has 2 quizs that deals with quotes from bk... i passed without really trying...
Very very boring. Especially because it was a morning class. I'm not one to fall asleep during class, but I did during this class. Not too difficult. Okay grader on papers and lets you use notes for midterm and final. It's one of those GE classes you can't wait to be done with.
The best
A great Professor who really cares about her students. Incredibly knowledgeable! Do the readings everyday, take good class notes and you should do well for midterm, term paper, quizzes and final. I recommend her!
Professor Cooper is a pretty good professor. the class is full of reading but it's nothing difficult. she gives out a lot of handouts to help you understand the readings and to help you out on the tests. the only thing i didn't like was that she never makes eye contact with anyone, it's kind of strange but overall she is a wonderful teacher!
Cooper is a great professor. Really generous with grades if effort is shown! I didn't buy ANY of the books and came out with an A. I just attended all the classes and paid attention and took good notes. She doesn't really email you back so ask questions during class. Also, her accent makes it hard to hear her sometimes, but she's a genuine teacher.
Dr. Cooper is a good teacher. She thoroughly goes over each story that gets assigned and mostly goes over the important details that are on tests. Reading the stories definitely helped me understand what she would say in class, plus most of the stories are interesting! My only complaint is she is scatter brained at times, but overall shes great.
Dr. Cooper is very nice and helpful. The books she assigns are very interesting to read, and she goes over every book if you didn't understand it too well. Awesome class, great to fulfill GE requirement.
Take her! She's pretty awesome. She goes over all the reading so it's impossible to get a bad grade. She is really nice too! Take her if you can!
Decent Teacher, uses both the textbooks alot. One thing is when she outs on a movie she will talk the entire time making it really hard to watch..
Cooper is so sweet! Cooper gives you all the answers you need to know for her quizzes and tests during lecture. Take good notes and pay attention to what she emphasizes! Her lectures are all over the place but earning an A is a breeze.
Such a great teacher! Very reasonable amount of writing and reading for this class. I actually enjoyed some of the readings. All her notes are very useful, and she tells you exactly what will be on the exams. Go to lectures to get her notes, because they will be very useful. Not hard to get an A at all. I recommend her class!
Professor Cooper is pretty chill and layed back. Made my first Capstone class a breeze. Take this class shes awsome and is not a heavy grader.
I loved Dr. Cooper. She may be a bit hard to understand because she has an accent, but if you go to her office hours, she helps you like no other. She is so sweet and am planning to take another course that she teaches if my unit cap/ time permits. Be prepared to read a lot- they are interesting stories though!
Did not like Dr. Cooper. Never posted grades, wasn't very clear about assignments and projects, and had contradictory directions. Not very easy to understand, but she grades fairly leniently. Lectures were BORING and attendance was mandatory.
Great teacher. Really breaks it down for you to understand the books. Make sure to read & always attend class. Her notes are all over the place and talks while putting on a movie. I love her and I would take another class of hers if I could.
Total of 3 tests. Final was all written and there was no multiple choice. 2 quizzes. She was nice and easy.
She is very helpful and supportive. She respects you when you work hard.
This class saved my gpa. sometimes you have to read a novel between one class meeting and the next but its worth it. there's a lot of reading material but it's good material. if she ever teaches a women's studies class I'll take it right away. just not so early..
The best class that you'll take at CSULB. You must read the books since that she likes details for midterms. One of the most important messages that I learned from her class is that "learning is a power". You will come out of that class with great knowledge.
I would take her again. Her classes are fun. She goes over the material very well.
You have to go to class, she takes attendance and really emphasizes how important it is to show up. I did not read a single page of the plays she assigned, I just went to class and took detailed notes. I got a solid B in there. She is a nice lady but she doesn't make eye contact which is kind of odd.
Easy class and books are interesting to read. Dr. Cooper likes paying attention to detail and tests you on specific details that go on in the novels. Very helpful and gives great pointers on how to become a better writer. Enjoyed the lectures take her!
Learned so much from this class. She gets in depth and really allows you to see how literature is present in our day to day lives. Most of these plays were very fun to read and helped broaden my horizons. She is a sweet lady who truly cares for her students. Her lectures were insightful and you will walk out a more educated person.
This was a fun and easy GE class to take. Her lectures are pretty interesting and the reading material wasn't so bad. I thought she was funny and nice. She's willing to help if you talk to her. She pretty much tells you everything that's going to be on the quizzes if you listen to her lectures so go to class! Would take her again!
3-4 Quizzes-mcfr. 1 midterm-mcfr, 1 final-fr, 1 group pres. I didn't buy the textbooks & I passed with a B, most can be found online. Attendance is mandatory & part of participation points. To pass you HAVE to read the stories, however they are really interesting. Cooper is great, however its her lectures are sometimes scattered & hard to follow
If you stay on top of your readings you will pass the class with flying colors. Make sure to go to class because her tests are straight from her lectures in class. She always posts study guides for tests and are exactly what appears on the tests. I enjoyed the readings, lecture, and passed with an A. You can do it!
3 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 term paper, and 1 final. Interesting class to say the least. She is very opinionated so if you write your responses to questions in a way that sides with her opinions, you're good to go. She doesn't look at the class when she lectures, she looks at the wall or the ground. Sometimes, she doesn't make things clear. Read, read!
This class is really fun if you like to read. It's a lot of reading, and it's necessary to actually read to get a good grade. Professor Cooper is adorable when she lectures, and can be really funny. This class is interesting, and you learn a lot about the world.
Overall this course is easy but you MUST attend class to pass. There are a lot of readings in this class but her lectures cover everything that is needed to be known for tests, quizzes, and papers. We've had 3 quizzes, a midterm, two papers, an extra credit assignment, and final. She is willing to help if you ask her. There are 2 textbooks required
Excellent teacher, great books assigned for reading. Just study, show up, and read!
Talks TOOOOO much in class to the point where you're falling asleep, Won't pay attention unless you're actually interested
Lots and lots of reading plays!
Dr. Cooper is very passionate about literature, she is very funny and readings are always discussed during lecture. Do not procrastinate on the readings so you can enjoy the class. Overall is a very easy course, she is approachable and willing to help outside the classroom.
This class is sooo boring! The class consisted of three quizzes, midterm, final, presentation and a term paper. Quizzes are very hard, but can get a decent grade in the class. A lot of reading is required!
Required to read 1-2 plays every week. Very easy to get behind with the reading but try not to. Multiple textbooks are necessary. Participation and attendance are graded. Group project and term paper are toughly graded, she looks for complex answers. Really liked this class, loved a majority of the plays!
Shes really boring but this class is super easy if you take it w her. Theres a lot of reading required but I never read anything and I'm still able to pass her tests. Tests are super easy too, she will tell you everything you need to about the books, just listen to her lecture and you'll be fine. Attendance is mandatory, theres a sign in sheet.
I took her literature and film (CWL451) last semester. She is knowledgeable. Participation is important, not because of attendance taken, but because you can learn a lot in her class. I like to go to her office time to discuss literature and film. She is passionate in this subject. If you really want to learn, she is definitely a good choice.
This class was super easy as long as you show up and take notes you will be fine. She unfortunately did not have PowerPoint lectures, which made it difficult to follow along. She would jump from subject to subject and was very disorganized. You pretty much have to teach the material to yourself, but it isn't too bad.
Literally the worst class I have ever taken at CSULB. Class was physically painful to sit through; she is an extremely boring and disorganized lecturer and has no idea what she is doing. She only wants you to parrot her own ideas back to her and does not welcome any critical thinking or differing opinions, even when supported by academic sources.
I really enjoyed taking professor Cooper for cwl 161, three quizzes, two exams, a group presentation, and two papers. Class itself wasnt hard at all because she teaches well shell let you know exactly what u need to to know for the exams. I didnt find her boring. As long as you do everything and participate is an A. Take her !
I enjoyed her class a lot. It opened me up to literature and movies that I would have never looked at before. I had her for an online course and although its kind of a lot of work to keep up with, it's not impossible to do. Just keep up with the weekly discussions and the term papers and you will be fine. Would take her class again.
Shes a good professor but the class can be a bit hard. There is a lot of reading in this class so be prepared. Her lectures are just notes she writes on the board and her notes are kind of hard to understand. The term paper is a killer but the in class essays and tests are a bit easier. NEVEE FORGET TO BRING YOUR TEXTS OR YOU'LL HEAR IT FROM HER
this class was sooo boring & physically painful to sit through she is very unorganized & doesnt know what shes doing. i didnt touch the textbook once and still managed to get As on her quizzes. it's an easy course just watch video summaries of the stories on youtube. the hardest part of this class is going.
Overall, I walked in and walked out, did the work and assignments, and got a B. Getting the books aren't necessary because she gives detail on the material. Getting an A can be challenge. Lets you use a cheat sheet for the exams. Grades the term papers a little tough. This counts as a global issues and a capstone and it's one of the easier ones.
Very clear of what is on the exams and gives heads up what will be on the exam/quiz, including specific detail of what will be multiple choice or short essay. Bring your book everyday, she will spot you out if you do not. Lots of reading, follow syllabus. She takes attendance everyday. One group project, super easy. AWARE, NO MAKE UP QUIZ OR EXAM.
I took CWL Reading the World. A lot of reading, quizzes are VERY specific (wants the smallest details from texts) so you must read. Theres a group project which we got an 89 on even with lots of preparation. Definitely pretty difficult to get an A in the class, but do the work, ask for advice on term papers, you'll be fine.
The class was easy enough. There are 10 discussions based on the readings, but a response to others was not required. Only 2 exams composed of multiple-choice, short answers, and two essays (2 pages each). Cooper's study guide is the same as the exams. There is 1 term paper that is 4 pages long. I passed with a B didn't use the textbook.
Lots of reading, but you can get away with not reading. Fellow classmate informed me that when we had the group project and they told her that two of the student did not do any work, she basically did not care and the grade is combined so the student's who did not do the work got a grade they did not deserve. Other than that good class.
Dr. Cooper goes over at least one play or book a week and she gives you two weeks to read through a whole novel. Be prepared for a lot of reading in this class but don't be discouraged because most of the literature you read is interesting. Dr. Cooper is really kind and caring of her students and she is readily available if you need help!
This class is a great choice for a quick GE. Your grade is made up of discussion posts and a couple of papers. Can definitely slide by just skimming the reading. Dr. Cooper is not that harsh of a grader. Don't write bad essays and you will get at worst a B most likely an A.
This class was asynchronous and was pretty easy as long as you put in the work. Professor Cooper posted weekly lecture videos about 10 minutes long. There were weekly discussion boards and make sure you take notes of the powerpoints in the videos. There was a midterm a final which both consisted of essay questions. Overall, great class!
I didn't personally find her boring, and she was so sweet and understanding (she let a girl turn in her midterm essays in late because the girl "didn't know they were due before class). I never studied or even read the full books assigned and got an A from showing up to lectures. Very easy GE course, definitely recommend.
Overall, I thought the course was good. She is very knowledgeable and definitely cares for her students. The class was very lecture heavy and many of the things she says during lecture are what you see on the exams. You also have to read the literature before class so you have points to say in class for participation.
Good amount of work to do but you will pass if you put in the work. 10 discussion posts, midterms, and a final exam. Watch the lecture videos and you will be fine.
