Horrible teacher. You cannot understand her! She stands up and lectures the whole class. If you like sleeping in a class, take this one. I have never had such a boring and rediculous teacher. She makes false claims towards students and gets mad at you for no reason and shows it the whole semester.
Yes she is boring sometimes, but you dont have to take any notes, go to any labs, or even go to class. She puts all her exams online, and notes, and all u have to do is memorize the answers. Dont go to lab. I hate science and am getting an "A" easily in it. I didnt learn a thing at all. Very eas
Alright teacher. Lectures every class - can be repetative and hard to understand at times; does some in class activities; usually finishes about 15 minutes early. Labs aren't mandatory, however, does test on lab results; easy, multiple-choice tests. Class is rather boring; very lenient with retests!
Maybe I just can't hear well, but I could barely understand her. I also emailed her about making up a test from being sick and she never responded.
Ugh. There are so many other SCI 1101 teachers....save yourself from taking a class with this one. Her classes were the most painfully boring and uninteresting classes i have ever taken.
Horribly painful class. You couldn't understand her, she was always mad, and although her tests were extremely easy, she played favorites, and made false claims.
Administratively the worst professor I've ever encountered. The frustration level was so high that the class was miserable. This was definately a self taught class.
Oh my gosh! I can't believe she is still teaching. She doesn't seem to care about you or helping you out with your grade. She is boring and hard to understand. Rarely uses the book and makes up her own information and confuses herself and the class with useless crap. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! For your own sake and sanity, take someone else.

First of all, she lectured about leaving class after I returned from having a vicious coughing fit...since then, she eyes me and I swear she's after me...
Seriously.....This teacher sucks so bad! I can't stand her. She has got to be one of the worst teachers I have ever had! Ugh! I hate her class and the way she teaches. Booooooooooo.....That is what I have to say to her and her crappy ass teaching skills. DO NOT TAKE HER WHAT SO EVER!!!

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Lectures are horridly boring, she is very disorganized, and gets upset a lot. ...generally about people not going to class OR leaving... BUT instead of getting on to the people that leave, she goes off on all the folks that stay! If you do take this class and have problems- she's better 1 on 1 during office hours.
A very good teacher.. The other students probably did not see her online study guides which were practically her test!! Enjoyed her class and earned an Easy A : )
Dr. Achar is cool she has a sense of humor, test are very easy, just respect her class! anyone who does not like this prof. must be one of those that don't want to do the work and then blame the prof. there is no way you can fail this class! the practice quiz online is half the test word for word!
I think she is a wonderful teacher. She posts practice quizzes and tests. At the end of the chapter she would review what could be essay questions or short answer. it was an easy A . I wish she would teach other courses!!!
She is a easy teacher. She posts her test online but her personality isnt great. She doesnt help you realy unless you go see her one on one. She also likes to pick on people who she doesn't like.
I know of no one that actually liked this lady. She grades ridiculously hard and just looks for something to count you off for. The material itself is easy but she makes it so much more difficult than necessary. If at all possible take another teacher.
Sometimes hard to understand, heavy accent, but will help you, if you approach her for help. Assignments are easy in Biology 2101, just follow directions, and she will grade you fairly, sometimes will give do overs!
if you respect her, she treat you good.
She's mean most of the time, but sometimes she can be nice. DO NOT SPEAK LOUDLY TO HER OR SHE'LL THINK YOU ARE DISREPECTING HER.....she's weird. Her class is kind of easy and most of the time you can't understand what she's saying and always changes the damn schedule and can't remember what she changed it to. Overall, she a fair professor.
She is extremely nice, but she just isn't helpful. Her accent isn't the problem. She never answers the questions you ask; she answers something else instead. I wouldn't recommend her.
She doesn't speak very good english. Her powerpoints have tons of grammatical errors. She can't keep the class under control and is confusing!
excellent teacher!
Class was informative I would take her again. You may not like her in 2101 because she is better suited for students in upper level classes... i.e. alot of students have not matured and are still expecting the highschool teacher
well you have to go to her class everyday attendance is MUST!!! or she takesout points. if she don't like you you might end up with 89.3 as class average...ya try to be on her good side.
This professir truly plays favorites and at times has test questions not in the book or lectures. If she likes you you're mostly ok, if not...hell hath no fury. Her personality and skill are not condusive towards a positive learning environment.
I can't write enough to describe how terrible this woman is! She has no ethics in the classroom, she doesn't know her subject very well and makes up answers to student questions. Her grades are based on how well she likes you, not on your work. She's unfair and unreasonable and she really should be fired. She allows cheating in her class too.
this class was worthless. If i did not know what biotechnology was I would have changed my major.this teacher plays favorites, grades her favorites better, allows cheating and does not know her subject matter very well
this professor is very helpful. the people who complain about her just do not want to study. this is the easiest possible upper level class that you would ever take. shes always willing to help. she definitely does not allow cheating, those who fail just believe the A students are cheating. its 3000 level class if you want to pass you have to study
This teacher is awesome!!!people complaining about the teacher playing favourites,is absolute nonsense.she knows her subject matter well and is always willing to help all the students make A's or at least a B. This is one of the easier upper level classes you can take!!!
I love her!
I took BTECH 3301 and study abroad with Dr. Achar. I know that this is not the most exciting subject, but Dr. Achar was definetely someone who helped the class understand the subject. She is considerate and seems to connect with students that want to try and work for their grade. If you show up and do your work (easy!!!) you will get an A!
Not very organized. Not very help full.
I had this professor for study abroad. I'd recommend going to study abroad anywhere with this her, she gives basically no work and the trip was organized extremely well, I had a lot of fun. If your going to go study abroad you have the chance to take this teacher, do it.
The class was very helpful and let me explore the many options out there in the biotechnology world. It allowed for me to experience what it could be used for and helped in what direction I wanted to take my career. The many trips planned and oppurtunities in this class are unlimited and I learned a lot while having fun!!!
A college education is not complete without real global perspective. I got my perspective in India, a country that is very progressive with its Biotechnology. We visited several institutions to explore the commercial and research side of the industry. This was my favorite part of the class because exploration is much more interactive than textboo
We visited institutions to explore the commercial and research side of the industry. This exploration was more interactive than textbook regurgitaton. I suggest this program with Dr. Achar, she helped design it! She knows the importance of a global eduaction and made it easy to learn btech methods while appreciating another culture.
very helpful, if you ask for help (I see that with pretty much every prof.). The class was an easy A.
As a nursing student, with a 3.9 GPA, she was awful. Her test questions often had more than one answer and even if you showed her in the book or powerpoints she refused to fix her errors.I am very disappointed in KSU for allowing her to take away from my education, especially when this course is relevant to my career. She also has avery thick accent.
Dr Achar is a great professor. She is very helpful. She stresses the areas to concentrate on to succeed in this class. Study the textbook and powerpoints as instructed and you will be fine. For your Unknown Bacteria project, definitely choose Option 3- a well defended paper helps your grade incase your specimen is contaminated etc
Dr. Achar is very knowledgeable and passionate about her work. She will go out of her way to help you if you make the effort. There is a lot of material to cover and she makes every effort to let you know where to focus your efforts. I also really liked the student presentations as a teaching tool.
She is a wonderful professor and wants you to do good. Study ppt slides, go to class, read the book and you should do fine. Lab are really fun and interesting. She is available for help, use it if you must.
This was a great upper level class. we learned how to identify different kind of bacteria in the lab. Dr.Achar was excellent she gave out clear instructions on what has to be done in lab and lecture. She made everything seem straightforward and easy. If u keep track with her u should do great. Also she is extremely helpful.
Dr. Achar is a wonderful teacher. She will go out of her way to help you. If you have the chance to go on a study abroad trip with her . . . GO! You'll have a fantastic time. I'd take her course(s) again. Very fair teacher.
I was Dr. Achar's student assistant this past semester. She was very wonderful to work for and VERY flexible! I've never had her as a professor, but have only heard good things about her from her previous students. Great teacher!
She sent me this email. Excluded contact info. Explains a lot. Hi folks, Hope you are all well. Did you get a chance to go and rate your prof, please do so if you have not: http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/SearchSchool.jsp Thank you all and keep well and safe. -- Dr Premila N Achar Associate Professor of Biotechnology Dept. of Biology and Ph
Dr. Achar is extremely helpful. She really does want every to do well. Take the time to come to class and study the powerpoint slides. You should have no trouble if you do that.
Dr. Achar is extremely helpful. She really wants everyone to do well.
Dr Achar was a very helpful and clear teacher as to the expectations for the class.
Dr. Achar is extremely helpful. She really wants everyone to do well.
Dr achar is a wonderful professor.I took betech3301 with her and I must say that Dr achar made the class really easy. I learned alot while takin her class. Also, I did directed study with her which was a wonderful expeirence. I am so glad I did directed study with her bez beside the learning part, it looks gr8 on my dental school application.
Interesting to note that most of the previous ratings used identical terminolgy and style as Dr. Achar uses in her emails and ppts, and were dated prior to the start of the semester. Worst professor at KSU, avoid at all cost.
Honestly terrible. She is somewhat disorganized and definitely plays favorites; she makes clear who she likes and who she doesn't. Never clear on due dates or requirements. Very combative if you disagree with her on correct answers to test & quiz questions. Very unhelpful.
Terrible, terrible class. Quiz questions with more than 1 correct answer, time-wasting debates during lecture about what the correct answer(s) should be, disrespectful to students during oral presentations, unorganized class structure, plays favorites. Avoid! Take with Dr. Vogelien if possible - she filled in for a lab and it was great!
Basically for this class, you have to show up and participate in the class. The ones that usually didn't study were the ones who complained the most. Read the ppt and the book and you should be fine for the class. I thought she did an okay job in this class. She is there to help students, not to fail them.
I had her for study abroad for may 2010. she never told us to bring an extra picture of us for the metro ID, 3 ppl almost got "arrested". almost got kicked out of our hotel, expected her assistant to do everything. the SA department spent weeks questioning us what had happened on the trip. she changed 2 students grades 2 weeks later for no reason.
The worst professor I ever had. I have never been in a class where the class after every exam is a arguement over the answers. Many students in my class went to the head of Bio during the class, but were told she was a tenurured prof. Take my advice, dont go thru the same misery. I have had many excelent profs at the KSU science dept. She is
There is a ton of material to digest, which means you have to read the textbook, notes, and go to class. She is very nice, and will help you with lecture or lab questions, during her office hours. If you pay attention and stay on top of this work, you can do well. It is a difficult class!
Okay, people who keep complaining that she is hard are students who expect college to be an easy ride. These are the students who don't actively learn, and expect every college class to be a peace of cake. Prof Achar is a great teacher and knows her stuff. The people complaining are probably gonna end up failing grad school.
This isn't a horribly difficult class, but I must warn everyone that it is absolutely PAINFUL to listen to her lectures. Over half the class would leave during break. Find a different teacher.
Interesting to note that the favorable reviews use the same language that Dr. Achar uses in her syllabus, etc. Bad class, instructor couldn't answer basic questions about the powerpoints she was presenting. Plays favorites, grade is based on who she likes, not how hard you work
She is pretty lenient and goes out of her way to make class interesting and get students involved. It's a GOOD thing (Duh) that she puts ppt notes online so that u can just listen in class. A little unclear bc of her accent, but what more can u ask for in a professor? She's great and approachable. Was reluctant to take her class but I'm glad I did.
Professor Achar is an average professor. You can't expect much from her, but it was a class of 200. She's open to helping her students, but this doesn't mean she'll take excuses. The tests weren't hard as long as you read the powerpoint and skimmed the book, but make sure you pay attention to the movies since a lot of questions come from here.
I took the class based on the moderate rating she received on this site. She would make us read and give us study materials, but the material on the test was not even remotely like the study material.
Not the most interesting teacher in the world and somewhat hard to understand due to her accent but definitely the best option out of all the science teachers. Tests are literally straight from the chapter. If you actually take time and read the entire chapter and go over her power points then there is no reason you should get less than a B.
Great class. She was very approachable. I had some stuff go on and was somewhat behind in class but she helped me with the material and was very encouraging. Attend class, study PPT, key words from book and you'll do fine. I was surprised her rating isn't higher after taking her course.
Really Great teacher, she truly cares about her students. If you know the ppts you'll be just fine. Plenty of opportunity for an A if you go to class and participate. She give little assignments to research and share with the class, if you do it you'll get a good participation grade. Great class! Great professor!
Very kind and helpful lady. Class is fairly easy. Quizzes are very easy. Tests include everything she highlights and bolds on her slides. She is not a tough professor and will work with you if you are on the border.
You cannot understand her, he rambles about useless info, and generally has no idea how to teach a class.
Terrible, do not take! She is difficult to understand, can't write a comprehensible email to save her life, and she does not make tests very easy to understand what she is asking. The material isn't hard, but looking at her powerpoints & reading the book are necessary. I never know when homework assignments/quizzes are due. I end up tuning her out.
Do not take!!!! She is extremely rude!!! She is so hard to understand and makes class so boring. It takes her a week to respond to your e-mail. Just do yourself a favor a pick a different teacher.
Rude, doesn't speak English, has confusing notes, confusing tests, isn't helpful when you ask her what she meant to say on the test, and is stupid... Ecosystems= habitat AND species! Not on her test! Blabs about how smart and rich her family is, doesn't care if you work 2 jobs... still got a C. Yeah, I'm a sour grape here. Take someone else.
I do not know what these people are talking about but all of her tests are from the powerpoints and she gives you actual review questions that are from the actual test. Just gotta take the time to do MES and look at the power points. I didn't even try in this class and passed. She also gives you what to study from the book. You can understand her
I liked her. I wasnt into the class in tbe beginning but the material really made you think about the impact were having on our world and shes passionate about it. I got a C, not because she was hard but i only studied the night before a test and i missed some assignments in MES. that are due at 12 noon, not midnight.
I really enjoyed her class. Very reasonable, not sure why people complain. Quizzes online and plenty of bonus opportunities. Tries to make lectures interesting. I would recommend this class.
She really isn't that hard to understand if you really pay attention. Her tests are easy if you study her power points. She gives EC for speaking up in class. Easy A
Dr. Achar is friendly and her tests aren't terrible if they're graded correctly. Professors make mistakes and that is totally ok, but the mistakes should be acknowledged. I promise all 200 of us didn't wrinkle our scantrons or fill the bubbles in incorrectly. Thankful she regraded, but she would have been better off to just say sorry and move on.
Achar is a nice professor, but you can barely understand her and she doesn't know to use a complete sentence. Her test are easy, at least test one is but she tried to get over on almost 150+ students by saying our test was wrinkled and not filled in correctly and thats how we all pretty much made c's and f's. then she regraded them after the fact.
Dr. Achar is almost too smart for her own good. She makes this class way more difficult (in the way she treats her students and placing blame on the faulty scantrons) then it should be. I hope that in the future this microbiology professor can be switched out for any future students having to take this class for their pre-requisites.
T E R R I B L E ! Do NOT take her. worst professor EVER!
Course load given is as if you are ONLY taking this. READ AND MEMORIZE. The tests are chopped up in ridiculous ways and for a 50 minute class w 50 questions, the number of chapters it pulls from is "drown in your tears worthy". LOTS of extra credit! Do online work and show up. Double check grading in office hours unless you like the wrong grade.
Dr. Achar has completely ridiculous expectations for this class. Tests are ambiguous and always contain a number of questions that do not make any sense or were never covered in class in the book. She never responds to emails, questions, or concerns. EVERY test had to be regraded weeks after it was taken because of the amount of answer key errors.
Mycology was a new course offered this semester and Dr. Achar was great in it. Study the powerpoints and participate in class for extra credit. If you feel a grade is wrong, go to her office and talk to her. She will work with you. 2 exams, 1 cummulative final, 1 oral presentationpaper, and a few quizzesclass activities. I enjoyed this course.
Worst teacher I have ever taken at KSU. Every test has been graded wrong and my class was in uproar over unfair questions and her limited out of class availability to meet with you. Her lectures are poor as she gets sidetracked on unimportant topics easily. her accent also makes her difficult if not impoosible to understand. AVOID IF POSSIBLE.
Organization & being on time with quizzeshw on LS is important bc deadlines aren't due all on the same time of the day. Couldn't go by the syllabus after a month. Class and assignments aren't hard. 3 tests. study ppts (mjrty of questions from there) and read book for clarification. As for Achar, not the best professor
Her class isn't as bad as people are making it seem. She's a really sweet professor who cares about her students and wants to see them do well! Her exams come straight from the powerpoints, study them and you'll be fine. She also gives lots of extra credit but you have to go to class in order to get the extra credit points.
i took her for a study abroad to india which was an amazing experience, and it was for 4 credit hours, she is amazing and very helpful!! she is there to help you when you need it
Very straight forward professor. Study her PowerPoints and you'll make an A. I would take her again!
Microbio not a difficult class, but Dr. Achar is unclear in her expectations and contradicts herself a lot. Mastering is required ($100) and random date/time deadlines make it extremely easy to miss an assignment. The 3 exams are mostly from ppts -6 ch. each, final is 3 new ch + cumulative- but questions sometimes have multiple/no correct answer.
she is unorganized in her lectures, wastes time at beginning of class, never learned anything in class. had to read the textbook (SUPER helpful). lots of material to cover but tests were as easy as possible. she assigns bonus points. some group work, average amount of homework. i never went to class it was pointless
Dr. Achar is great! This is a difficult class, so if you come into it not wanting to put in all the work it requires, then your grade will show. Tests based off her PowerPoints and Mastering. GO TO CLASS. Offers extra credit occasionally for group discussions. There is no point in missing class if you don't have to, folks. Tests are hard but doable
This class does require you to study: more memorization than concepts. Tests are based off of the the powerpoints. If she tells you to google something outside of class, do it there WILL be a test question on it. GO TO CLASS, she offered group activities that gave extra credit. Keep up with mastering, she doesn't explicitly say when hw is up.
Dr. Achar was great! Tests are directly from her ppts & she gave us a review before each test, explaining the type of questions she was going to ask. MasteringMicro is required but is a huge help, quizzes were easy if you knew material. If you skip class you will miss out on extra credit!
Really nice professor, always available at office hours to help. She's very invested in her students and gets to know you by first name basis if you show up to class. She really hates when you miss class, there are surprise group project days worth points and there's no getting them back if you skip. Lab was fun too, just keep a neat notebook.
Professor takes personal calls during lab for at least 30min and will stand in tge hall for students to be left alone in lab. Has a tendency to encourage students to go into prep room for her. Not helpful during lab unless you can help her
she is the best!!! TAKE HER
This lady is hilarious. she's SUPPER EASY. Honestly memorize her ppt and review her study guide and you'll get an A. Her lectures are boring and i think she knows that so you'll have to go to class because she gives extra credit and group activities. she doesn't like to teach and she's sometimes off topic. 3 presentation counted only 2
Its similar to anatomy in that its alot of memorization, but is less material and not as difficult. Test are straight from the powerpoints with 1 or 2 questions that are nowhere to be found. She more than makes up with this however with bonus points(up to 10) and by posting sample exams. Memorize powerpoints, sleep in lecture, make an A.
worst professor Ive ever taken. did not learn anything from her lectures and tried to teach myself the material using her PowerPoints. the tests contradicted the PowerPoints.. The homework is mandatory and weigh the same as a test and had random end dates so they were easy to miss. She was also very rude and forgot topics that she assigned us
Shes not a bad teacher at all! The tests are multiple choice and theyre very direct. All I did was mainly study her PowerPoints and read a little bit of the book. She has a strong accent so it might be hard to understand during lecture. There is extra credit where you work in groups & overall its an easy class!
I had her for microbiology in the summer, and she's a really sweet lady. I ended up doing a lot of studying and going over things on my own though so make sure you do have the book. There were group activities where she gave extra credit. If you put in hard work on your own, you will pass. Don't expect an easy A, there is a lot of memorization
AVOID!!!! She was the only option for microbiology this semester and has made this class dreadful. There are only 2 tests and 1 final with over 6 chapters for each test. Her class is overall miserable. A nursing major's nightmare.
Professor Achar is extremely intelligent, however, not a teacher you want to have. The grading system in this class is bogus. There are 2 tests and a final with about 6 chapters on each exam. It is very difficult to get an A which is what you need for KSU's nursing program. Definitely avoid.
Micro is fact heavy and requires memorization. Dr. Achars teaching style is all over the place. I went to lectures and could not concentrate or follow her deviations for the full duration of the lecture. Exams included not only the book but her slides and external links that she gives but does not discuss @ lecture. Unnecessarily haphazard class.
DO NOT take this professor. class is only 50 minutes and she spends 20 of the minutes rambling on about her personal life. she does Not teach and you can not even understand her because of her accent. Tests are 90% from quizlets and she does not curve tests no matter how low the average is. if you can avoid.. avoid her class at all costs.
Her PowerPoints often do not agree with the textbook. So, on a test, if you put a textbook answer instead of her PowerPoint answer, you are wrong. I took this class during the CoVID-19 campus shut down, and she refused to give us extra credit because we were not in class. However, we had 3 months of classes for her to assign extra credit.
Wouldnt answer any of my emails. she sucks.
Shes sweet and sarcastic. I took her lecture and lab. Lab was a breeze. Just read Prelab. No practical exams in lab. I took this during Coronavirus so maybe that isnt the case. Lecture is pointless to go to but I would still bc I dont like to skip class. Study powerpoints word for word for tests weeks in advance. Pearson homework. Thats it.
Her tests are based mostly off of her PowerPoints but also some outside info she only says in class or tells you to Google. She based a few questions off of incorrect info in her slides. In lab, she took too much time to look at each slide and never finished because two hours was not nearly long enough. Try to take someone else (at least for lab).
Worst professor I have ever had. She doesnt care to explain the material and all she does is read the PowerPoint. I do not recommend taking her at all.
Terrible communicator, very unorganized, rambles in lectures over nonsense, no extra credit.. Test questions are primarily in the powerpoints but she copies Mastering questions word-for-word. Honestly, she is kind of rude and does not work with students at all. Only 3 tests so there is a lot of material to remember.
AVOID this professor. Just got finished taking her final and it was barely anything on there that I had studied for. She doesn't reply to emails and is just a horrible teacher overall. Her class is very hard. Go take someone else please. Now I have to retake the class because I can't afford a C. A nursing student worst nightmare.
DON'T TAKE! She never responds to emails, her lectures are completely unintelligible between her long tangents and just reading off the powerpoint slides, and gave no extra credit because the class was online, despite her saying attendance was mandatory because class wasn't online. If she responds back to you she never answers questions directly.
Her test were very hard and multiple things could be right. On our final there were multiple things we hadnt learned at any point in the class
course is content heavy and challenging. She isn't best communicator and relies heavily on her lengthy powerpoints. Had to take online due to COVID, so her questions were not her own and the final mostly of the questions were not anything we had studied or was emphasized to study. Course is doable, take with diff prof if able, but she isn't too bad
AVOID! Anyone can read from a ppt slide-- she doesn't explain anything. Tests on things she never discussed and ignored multiple emails from several students. Not willing to help anyone and contradicted herself countless times. A is obtainable if you memorize the ppt slides, but they're lengthy (60-80 slides per ppt with 4-5 chapters on each test).
Her tests come straight from the ppt but you have to study lots of details. Its very easy to get an A if you study the slides every other day or so. Her tests are mc and are very easy if you know the ppt but the tests are fair.
Must attend lectures and she chooses people to present topics during class. Reads from powerpoint. Exams are word for word from powerpoints. You have to memorize everything to pass. Does give out extra credit, but her instructions for assignments aren't clear. She often puts in the wrong grade for assignments.
Don't THINK about taking this professor. She is a very confused person that complains about students who don't fulfill her personal requirements not listed on the syllabus. Very passive aggressive during lectures and in email communications. Wouldn't recommend at all. The course content is ok. You only need to read the pp slides to pass the exams.
I wouldnt recommend you take 3301K with Dr.A. The lecture portion is ok but lab assignments are unclear/confusing. Shes never clear about what she is looking for in the lab reports. Taking the class in the summer is also a bad idea. 2 lab reports a week is draining. Theres 11 of them. Her expectations are too high when she never grades anything.
Be prepared to be confused. You will have no idea of deadlines as they constantly change. You will basically have to figure out everything on your own. She will be rude and passive aggressive. She clearly has no idea how to operate the D2L platform. Dont waste your time.
Made things impossible, randomly gave new assignments, was very unfair, very rude, changed syllabus constantly, was very confusing. do not recommend.
This class was extremely difficult for absolutely no reason. She would claim that her syllabus and rubrics were "crystal clear" but they are not. She is extremely rude and blasts people in mass emails sent to the whole class. I would avoid the trouble and just not take her. A waste of time and money.
Doesnt know how to work D2L. Puts wrong answers on quizzes. Assignments randomly come up (due dates arent on the syllabus) and most of it doesnt even count towards our grade. Do not take her!! Exams are lockdown and discussions require like 12 responses. She even ignored my email before when I asked about my grade. AVOID HER
Told people they had to retake an exam because of the webcam angle then changed her mind and gave zeroes instead. She sent a picture once and you could see her looking up definitions in the back. She does not know what shes teaching. Please avoid her.
Class was difficult for no reason, never responded to any of my emails and randomly assigned assignments throughout the course. She also graded very harshly. She once took off 40 points off my grade because I did not add a quote. Do not recommend.
This professor was the most confusing professor I ever had. There was no clear instructions on assignments and no set schedule with dates set on when things are due. The whole class was confused on multiple assignments and she made it seem like we just didn't read the assignment, when we did but the instructions were confusing. Would NOT recommend.
If you want to have a mental breakdown every couple of weeks because something you didn't know about is coming due take this class. She has little to no idea on how to use D2L, discussion posts have to be copied into a submission document, due dates are never clear, There are really no rubrics just a list of what she wants yet its not clear.
Please for the love of all that is good and holy, STAY AWAY from anything to do with this professor. She gives absolutely 0 resources to help retain information and she is 100% unclear on what she wants you to know for exams and quizzes. If you are not able to memorize a bunch random fungi facts, stay away from the professor.
Professor is unclear about what is expected to be memorized for the test. You have to be willing to memorize multiple powerpoints for a hope of a good grade. Gets passive agressive about the extra credit. Does not seem knowledgeable about the subject.
This course is a level 6 Bloom's taxonomy, and it requires independence and proactiveness in studying from the start. We covered almost the entire textbook full of dense material, and things covered in class will appear on the exam. Nothing is benign or just interesting; it's facts that you are now in charge of memorizing. (Pre-Grad training).
Get ready to read dense 50-page PowerPoints. Tests don't test your knowledge of subjects or your ability to think logically; they test your ability to remember facts from the textbook. Instructions for assignments are extremely vague and you will lose points without being told why. Most weeks include discussion posts that require 12-15 replies.
Don't take her for an online classes, not very good at communicating or using technology. Just overall wouldn't recommend. Class was simple in theory but how she personally dealt with issues made everthing 150% more headache-inducing than it should've been.
You aren't graded on your understanding of the subject. Exams are weirdly worded and usually have many tricks questions. Extremely heavy discussion posts. Very unclear grading criteria. Syllabus is unclear and assignments are added completely randomly throughout the week. Many mistakes while entering final grades that severely impact you.
I would give dr. Achar a 0 if I could. She never helped her students when we reached out. Be prepared to retake exams because she watches all of the lockdown camera videos and id she hears anything in the background she will give you a 0 or make you retake it ( she made a student retake an exam because her dad was talking in another room).
The worst prof I've ever had. Materials are scattered; course is totally unorganized. She has no idea how to use D2L. Doesn't know what a dropbox is or when she's creating assignments. She can't proofread an email to save her life. On the topic of emails, she sends at least 5 a day. Won't answer questions. Rude and condescending. DO NOT TAKE.
All of the most recent ratings summarize everything perfectly. One of the most frustrating and unclear courses I have EVER taken at KSU and I am almost finished with my biology degree. Do not recommend.
Terrible. She just told our class that we will have to retake our exams if we scratch our head, look away from the computer, wear pajamas in their home, take the exam in a cafe, etc. She clearly does not understand that some students are homeless, some have disabilities that affect attention, have eczema, etc. Classist, ableist, and condescending.
Lectures are just her going on tangents and arent helpful, offers 10 bonus pts throughout the course, but impossible to get because it requires you to speak over 100+ students on Teams. Makes up proctoring guidelines along the way and will make you retake if you dont meet them . Dont ignore that voice in your head telling you NOT to take her class
Avoid at all costs seriously ! "Lectures" are hard to follow & consist of reading straight from a powerpoint & long tangents. If you are interested in learning/doing well in this class you will have to teach yourself. Grade is based off 2 exams, final, & maybe 3-4 homeworks. Everything about the criteria for online exams in other reviews is true.
This is my second degree at KSU and she is by far the absolute WORST professor I have ever had. Her lectures consist of her reading an 80+ slide PowerPoint. Final exam was 50 questions that covered 9 chapters that most of the class failed. She does not give any curves on exams. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER!
BEWARE. The simple answer is, do not take her. She does not care about her students. I know there are limited options for this course so if you have to take her, here are some tips. She only talks about assignments once, so check Day One everyday. If you miss a set, you will not have an A in the class. Be a robot & don't blink when taking exams.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! really only two options to register for but if you can get the other professor I highly recommend. She does not teach. Her lessons consist of her reading off her powerpoints and going off on tangents that are completely irrelevant. It is a "teach yourself" course and She provides zero study material. Awful class/professor.
DO NOT TAKE! Took her first in-person class since covid hit, she wears two mask and hard to hear her. She seems nice but VERY hard to understand. Get ready to teach yourself! There is only 2 test and not much homework. Test is lockdown-browser & WEBCAM for an IN-PERSON class, which makes NO sense. MAJORITY of the time she goes off topic in class.
You will have to teach yourself everything. Lecture is pointless, she never stays on topic and is only a distraction. I had her for the lab and she talks the whole lab not allowing you to do your work. DO NOT TAKE HER BY ANY MEANS.
DON'T TAKE! She is VERY hard to understand. She wears two mask and has an accent. Get ready to teach yourself. She has 2 test and the final so you have to pass both in order to pass the class. She goes off topic A LOT and talks about her husbands kidneys. She has two "reps" for the class and they do so much work for little credit it's not worth it.
I'm writing this as I'm supposed to take my final but since I'm writing this, clearly I'm not taking it because she doesn't know how to upload the damn tests. On top of that, you literally cannot hear a word she says because of her heavy accent and she wears two masks and she tells you its your fault you can't hear her. She is an awful teacher.
This class should not be as hard as this professor makes it. If you have any other option to take a different professor, please do so. Her tests are very difficult to study for and it seems like a lot of the questions are not from the powerpoints (which are hundreds of slides). Save yourself the trouble and take someone else.
I had her for lab and lecture. She the worst teacher i have ever had and i have had a lot. Most unorganized teacher i have ever seen in my life. She has no clue how to work the grade book/computer and she has graded many of my quizzes in lab wrong. Do not take her for lecture or lab. Especially lab. She barley knows the content she teaches
If you want to be confused all semester, get spoken down to, and terribly written PP, tests, and quizzes, Dr. achar is perfect for you. I could go on and on about how awful she is but she has a 2.4/5 for a reason. Never answers your questions, condescending, has been reported to the dean multiple times. DO NOT TAKE, its doable but utterly AWFUL.
No. Just no. She shows up to lecture late, rambles for the entire lecture, does not understand how to assign things. So far, we only have a few grades. This class is a fever dream and half the time no one knows what is going on. No one shows up to lecture anymore because she just rambles. Please avoid this professor at all costs
Dr. Achar has a tendency to ramble a LOT when she teaches. She often gets distracted and goes off-topic, to a degree where at least half of the students in my class stopped showing up, and began teaching themselves. She is not tech-savvy at all, & tries to incorporate glitchy software to complete assignments on aside from D2L. Would not recommend.
She is a pacific islander and speaks English poorly; as a result, her tests are challenging to interpret. This class was my only option, but I stopped showing up after the first day and decided just to read the book and teach myself like most people. Avoid taking her if you can.
I was scared to take this professor in the beginning of the semester due to the rating but she was so good! Very helpful and gave a lot of extra credit in order for you to pass ! Microbiology is hard course so you definitely have to do your part in studying.
Professor Achar is a really nice lady. We had three tests & a final. There is hw but it was a discussion post and a one-page essay and that was it. Overall, she was really flexible when it came to tests. The tests were easy if you studied all the PowerPoints in detail. The labs were fun as well. She also gives a LOT of extra credit.
I took this professor over the summer for an online mycology course. I would not recommend this professor to anyone. Her tests are overweighted, her assignments are meaningless in the grade book. I do not believe she is equipped to teach an online course.
Her syllabus is outdated and not accurate, her exams weigh alot and requires busy work for little points. She doesn't knows what she is doing.some questions on the exam are wrong and doesn't spell things correctly to the point where you can't understand on test. makes you retake exams or accuses you of cheating if your whole torso is out of frame.
Extremely test heavy. Only 470 points in the class and 400 of them are tests. When you ask her a question about where to find the answer to something, she responds with attitude such as " textbook?". She always has an attitude and makes you feel stupid. A 3 page research paper is required and is only worth 10 points of your grade. Do NOT take her.
Stay away from taking her for mycology! Her exams are consistently filled with incorrect answers, she responds with emails that have several typos, dismissive, just a very stressful class. My peers and I had to consistently correct her on wrong exam answer. DO NOT TAKE!
Worst professor Ive ever taken. If you care about your GPA don't take. Most of the course points are from exams which have multiple wrong answers. She threatened to give a 0 on exams in which you have any noise in the background or don't show the proper amount of body during the lock down browser. STAY FAR AWAY
I don't say this lightly: she is the worst professor I've ever had. I have her for lab and lecture. She is incredibly unorganized. She tells you one definition one day and then a completely contradictory one the next day. She is very inconsistent and loves to say she's "on standby" if you have any questions, but she doesn't answer them! Stay away.
Worst professor ever, DO NOT TAKE!!! She does a horrible job explaining what you are doing in lab that day and hard grader for 0 reason. A test tube full of E-Coli spilled on me and she did nothing about it and went about her day in lab. She is very hard to understand and will not re-explain anything to you.
Currently taking her for micro lab and she's the worst professor I've ever had. She's very hard to understand and doesn't help much when you ask. She's also a very picky, harsh grader. On top of all of that, she assigns unnecessary work like "lab summaries" for each lab when it's not required by any other lab professor. Wouldn't recommend to anyone
Currently taking her, late a lot of times for class hard to understand and wears a face mask on top of that in a large auditorium. Very hard to get ahold of her and does not answer emails. Having to teach myself everything because her lectures are hard to understand. Random HW assignments that she does not let us know are available. STAY AWAY
Lecture with this professor is a struggle - she's hard to understand and often gets off topic. You'll have to teach yourself most of the material. However, unstuck ai and the course textbook can be helpful for study prep. Tough class, but manageable if you're proactive.
Worst professor I have taken. Had no idea what was going on (super thick accent+mask) but she posts previously used questions for exams (that usually are on the exam). Grades were wrong most of the time and never used accurate syllabus so don't even look at it tbh. Even if not getting this class puts you back a semester, don't take her. Please.
You know that one scene from mean girls where regina is writing angrily in the burn book? yeah thats all I have to say. worst professor EVER.
Dr. Achar was extremely disorganized. Instructions constantly changed, and she often forgot things she previously said. She once opened an exam 35 minutes late and didn't extend the time, leaving us with 25 minutes for 50 questions. When concerns were raised, she was rude and dismissive. Do yourself a favor and never take this professor.
Honestly I was scared to take here seeing how low
Honestly Idk how she has a low rating, but that's what scared me when I registered and this was my only option. She is definitely hard to understand and lectures are boring, but she literally gives practice for exams and half the questions are on the actual test. I feel majority of people didn't study, but overall it's not a hard class. She's sweet
This class is not difficult, you do get extra credit opportunities inside and outside of class, and half of the sample questions are on the exams. However, Dr. A was definitely passive aggressive at times, rambled in lectures, and showed up late several times. Be prepared to teach yourself and receive emails that make no sense at 1:00 AM.
Tbh don't choose her, the class itself is so easy and I should've gotten an A. All deadlines are for you to check on, she'll open quizzes without telling us so constantly check d2l. Late to class, cancels class often, random extra credit group assignments instead of teaching, passive agressive, makes you feel slow, just don't choose her.
