Prof. Allen is a goog instructor. I learned a lot in his class. He was extremely helpful when I asked questions even stayed after class to answer my questions. He is very comical, his class will entertain you. I recommend that you take this class. You will learn a lot.

Preston Allen is not only a great professor, but an accomplished author. He has a great sense of humor which he uses to illustrate his teaching points. Take his class seriously and you will do great. When he tells you to write a 3 1/2 paper, write 4 good pages. If you write 3 1/2 pages of BS...you can expect a BS grade.

His class is very interesting and fun, but don't take it lightly because he grades very strictly. I just took Prof. Allen for spring 2010. I am not a good student and I got an "A". Is is an exiting professor, he reads a lot and is very interactive in class. there is no way you will fall asleep. He is very tough on his rules and wont bend them and gives a lot of HW. I enjoyed his energy and attitude, made me laugh a lot.

Prof. Allen is very tough. He wil give you a ton of homework and doesn't care if you have other classes, jobs, kids,etc.He is SUPER critical because he is a published writer. Prepare to work your butt off to earn a good grade in his class. He pushes his students to buy his books...don't!

He's a pretty good professor, took him for the spring 2010 semester night course. He's definitely a talker and assigns tons of homework, none of which I did and still earned an A. Bottom line, do well in his blue books, make sure you're writing doesn't bore him and you'll be alright.

I think we dont do enough work in class and were given too much writing assignments that take too long. These should be switched. If there were a little more interesting class activities and less tedious essays, it'd be great. The class discussions are interesting but alot of the time have nothing to do with the class. He's a nice teacher though.

Professor Allen is one of the few professors who cares about students and teaches each class as though it were his last. Amazingly talented and willing to transmit to his students, anything he knows so they may grow as writers. You can't go wrong with this guy, seriously!

Great professor but not an easy course, you have to be willing to work. Had him for a couple late night classes and he was able to keep me awake which is an accomplishment in itself. Highly recommend if your looking to actually learn a thing or two in class.

Took him before for ENC1101. A great professor who has an interesting personality. Attendance was a bit required but I missed many classes but still end up getting a very good grade in his class. The research paper is definitely required to do as well as the 3 blue book in-class writing essays.

I recommend a lot that you take this professor. He rarely gives you a test, but you do have homework almost every class. If you do all the homework, and get good grades on the essays, you'll definitely pass his class. He expects you to be on time, and to miss class only when actually necessary. If you do what you're suppose to, you'll be fine.

Professor Allen is awesome! I dont know where the negative feedback could come from. He made ENC1102 super intesresting. You watch films, talk about confirmity vs rebellion, and there is the fairytale portion of the class. He teaches you to learn material in complete different perspectives and encourages opinions. This professor explores the artistic side of literature. If you really enjoy going deep into meanings and actually trying to find a true message in literature works, he is your guy. He's also an author with very interesting stories. His class is easy and he's funny. Be ready and study for the quizzes he will give. Research papers will be assigned.

He assigns weekly writing assignments but does not force you to read in class until workshop. If you don't like writing short stories you may want to reconsider because that's all we did ALL semester. He is a good teacher though.

This professor is really weird but in a good way. He tells very corny jokes but you can tell he loves what he is teaching. Grades a bit tough but he will allow you to redo something for a better grade. DOES NOT ASSIGN A TEN PAGE RESEARCH PAPER!!!!! Hes really funny in a weird type of way if you take him you'll see. The work isn't all that difficult and he is really lenient with when you turn it in as long as you email him explaining why you couldn't on the due date. Definitely going to try to take him for 1102. Shows a lot of videos and you pretty much just write responses to them

I really dislike ENC classes and the semester I took ENC1102 I took 5 classes in total. Crazy to say that my favorite class this semester out of the 5 has been the ENC1102 class and it has been 100% due to Preston Allen's awesome lectures. He makes literature fun and makes you interested in what he is teaching. This professor is amazing.

Amazing teacher overall, there's 6 required assignments throughout the semester. Three in class essays and three home research papers. Overall he was an outstanding teacher, would definitely recommend.

Preston Allen was one of the most weirdest but funniest professors I ever had. He would make a few face expressions that would make a few students laugh. I took the course over the Summer though it was a late long class his class was super easy. We were graded on a total of six essays three at home and three in class. Professor Allen is super chill, I took him online due to COVID and he's a pretty good teacher all in all. The one thing I will say is that he tends to chose the weirdest topics for essays that seem pointless and it can get a little annoying sometimes but he is a funny and laid back teacher. I took this class very afraid of what people said about ENC, but I'm grateful I chose Professor Allen. He teaches because he loves what he does. He inspires students to write and create and shows respect for their ideas. His feedbacks are direct but delivered with care and positivism. You just have to participate in class and do homework on time.

Professor Allen is a good teacher, giving good lectures that keep you focused and able. He always starts the class with a thought question but other than that he gives plenty of time for homework. Only 2 Letter grade assignments, miderm and final, if you don't submit these you fail. Just do the work and you'll pass.

I was sad to leave his class. The highlight of my week! Funny, inspirational, philosophical, and a great writer himself! I read "Jesus Boy" by him and loved it. You won't need the book but it is helpful if you just want to keep some info for yourself. He gives grades at the very end. Loved this class.

Professor Allen is very passionate in what he does. During lectures he likes to go on explanations about other things which in my opinion is fun to hear. Mr. Allen is an outstanding professor, and I would recommend him for this course. You only get 4 letter grades which is mid-term, and finals, the rest is merit points based on homework and participation. So do the homework so at least if you didn't do good on midterm the merits points will help. Would take him again.
