This professor is not helpful, she is rude, and DOES NOT teach you anything. Her tests and quizzes are rigged for failure.
This professor does not explain the information in a way that makes sense. I came into the class have a prior background in chem and ended up more confused. She also insists that the only valid learning occurs inside her classroom and no where else. The tests are filled with random trivia and not legitimate chemistry. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!
If you are looking for an easy A Dr. Burrow is not the one to take. The material is HARD, but if you put in a lot of studying, go to her office hours, and go to SI it is TOTALLY doable to get at least a B. I came to the class with NO background knowledge, and I completely understand whats going on. If you doubt your abilityTAKE INTRO TO CHEM FIRST.
Do not come to this class expecting that because it is an intro class you can goof off. Dr. Burrow is more than willing to give plenty of explanations and examples to help you understand, but she expects you to be able to put concepts together. Pay attention and you will do well. She also gives lots of extra credit opportunity.
she only reads ppt; she doesn't teach at all. I learned by myself do not ever take Chem with her you will waste your time.
This is the first class that outside class time really was 3 hours for every in class hour. The most challenging of my college career (a bachelor's degree later). Be prepared for tough exams, with problems you have never seen or done in class. Also, heavy emphasis on quizzes of random stuff you wouldn't study--GLOBAL WARMING!
This teach does want you to be successful in her class, but she refuses to work one on one with a student. If you ask her, she will tell you to consult the book or her teaching assistants first.
Dr. Burrow is full of knowledge!! She knows Chemistry. She may be tough but very fair. She helps when asked and you walk out of her class not being afraid of chemistry!! She is an excellent professor!! If you think chemistry should be an easy class, at the university level, nope It does require many hours a week to master every concept.
Dr. Burrow's class is extremely difficult, but there is much to be learned from her. Her exams are really difficult. Overall, she is great and full of knowledge. There is no such thing as an easy A in her class, but she does prepare students who are planning on having careers in a science field.
Avoid at all costs. Dr. Burrow is not helpful, not a good teacher, but very smart. I went to all the SI sessions, studied, did all the homework, had a great high school chem teacher, missed one class and still got a C.
Avoid at all costs.
She doesn't like teaching. For instance, after class she runs out to avoid answering questions and during her office hours she is straight up rude to students. She has a reputation for administering unfair/bogus tests. She takes forever to get back grades. She promises throughout the semester she'll provide extra credit, which is not true.
Terrible teacher. Doesn't teach. Her own TA's don't care for her.
Professor Burrow's is most possibly THE WORST professor I have ever had during my career at CU Denver. She does not care for her students, and has her Teaching Assistants teach most of the course. If you don't understand chemistry or have a hard time, DO NOT take this class with her, as you will be teaching yourself everything you need to know!!
Seriously, Dr. Burrow is the BEST Gen Chem professor. She knows her chemistry. She is fair and there is lots of help available for most of us who need it. She does offer extra credit and rounds grades when needed. You will come out of her class knowing chemistry and not having fear of it!!!
No doubt is Dr. Burrow hard (but what science course is easy?). She explains things well and is eager to answer questions in class. She gives crazy challenge questions that will drop your exam grade 20% if you mess up. Other than that, she is a fair grader and has no favorites. Also funny and likes to add humor. EC is offered to class.
Professor Burrow is one of the worst professors I've had in college. She does not answer all the questions asked in class. Her lectures are confusing and unprepared. I would never take another class with this professor again.
If I did not enjoy science I would dislike Dr. Burrow a whole lot more. She renders useless as I had to rely on quite a bit of background knowledge and snippets from my high school Chemistry class. The tests are easy if prepared.
An okay teacher but she really doesn't teacher much. She does get confusing sometimes. Warning! She will purposely throw out an unannounced quiz to throw you off!! Other than that this class requires a lot of outside time for it.
I love chemistry and science in general but I hated this class because of this professor. She does not stick to the course curriculum and expects you to know things which are not covered. She makes you buy the new book but instead of using the online service provided with it she makes you buy another one so she gets the kickbacks from both.
Beware she will throw out pop quizzes on purpose!!! She says that clicker questions are just for a participation grade but that is a lie!!! If you get the question wrong it does goes towards your grade!!!
Dr. Burrow is not prepared for lectures and does not spend time in class actually teaching. She does not work through problems, nor does she give students specific systems to better enable them to work through problems given in class. Class periods are spent with students independently working thru problems with littleno guidance, take a diff prof
Priscilla hates teaching and doesn't do much of it in class. She makes chem which is already hard into a complete nightmare. Don't take her unless you want your GPA to take a hit. She knock me out of Phi Beta Capa which is our horrors society.
This class is not an easy class, but if you work hard you will know the material in and out. She does come across as slightly condescending and standoffish until you get to know her, but she truly does want to help. If you're willing to work for it, Burrow's class is definitely worthwhile. I would take it again.
Dr. Burrow will give the students every opportunity to succeed and to develop a mastery of chemistry, but she expects her students to rise to that challenge. Exams are occasionally disproportionately difficult compared to the lecture, but curves are applied as necessary.
I recommend taking Chem 1000 (Foundations) with her before taking Chem 2031, it will prepare you a lot. But if you had chemistry in HS and have a good understanding of basic math, you won't have any problems. She is passionate about the environmental issues and goes beyond the textbook. She is very inspiring. Loved her class.
Class objectives are made clear. She allows you to work through practice problems in class, so if you understand that, you will do well on the test. If you understand how college works (e.g. Read the chapter before coming to class, do the recommended problems, actually study) then you have every opportunity to do well.
Somewhat confusing lectures, but uses LA's effectively. Expect pop quizzes. It's chemistry... its not supposed to be easy, but if you don't get math, take a refresher
Dr. Burrow is excited about teaching and wants her students to succeed. I had a ten year break between college and high school and she was my first science professor in college. She gives plenty of homework which helps to cement the subject matter and she gives great feedback on the homework. I would definitely sign up for one of her classes agai
Took this course hoping to have an easy A, it's exactly the opposite. All the labs must be done outside of class and with all the materials you have to buy on your own, it comes to over two hundred dollars.
Dr. Burrow is a nice person. She's undoubtedly a terrible teacher though. This was the hardest B I've worked for. No doubt. A close person to me is an O-chem tutor, and she was just laughing at some of the practice problems and quiz questions because of how absurd they are for a General level class. I do not recommend taking her. Glad I'm a Bio.
Dr. Burrow can be very condescending. She will go through important things way too fast, make you figure everything out by yourself. Pop quizzes are horrible. She told us on our first day we would all fail it and we all did. It's one of the most stressful classes and it's sad she made chemistry so much harder than it needed to be. DON'T TAKE HER.
This class was so hard. I like her as a person, but as a professor, she is tough. You have to spend hours and work really hard in this class. Her canvas quizzes and pop quizzes are tough, though the pop quizzes are a little easier. She also goes through material really fast. I would not take her again.
Burrow seems very intimidating at first, but you will grow into her personality. She has 6 pop-quizzes that are in class which come after the Canvas quiz & Sapling homework. The Canvas quizzes are much harder than the real quizzes, plus she drops the lowest quiz + hw. Go to the SI sessions and get a tutor. Doing practice problems is a MUST!!
Dr. Burrow explains everything in an easy to understand way. There are tons of resources available to you and with a little bit of extra effort, it's entirely possible to do well. She moves quickly, so you have to keep up with reading the text book and doing the online homework, but she has a good sense of humor and understands that chem is hard.
She is a good teacher, but isn't very respectful of different backgrounds and education of students. She often talks about "highschoolers" knowing this material and suggests that you reconsider the class if you don't know things that are learned the previous week. She does give pop quizzes, so beware!
Professor Burrow is one of the most terrible teachers that i have ever taken. She expects every student to have an extensive chemistry background/knowledge about the course before it even begins. She has office hours ONE day a week for ONE hour. She gives popquizzes whenever she feels like it and the difficultly of the quizzes, depend on her mood.
Taking her class be ready to be stressed out. She makes you watch youtube videos on how to solve the problem before class. She will not go through how to set up any problems in class. She rushes through all the power points. exams are extremely hard, half the class did not finish the 1st exam. basically you will be teaching yourself in the class. n
Terrible teacher. Disrespectful and incredibly condescending, I recommend taking anyone else!
Gives pop quizzes or I'd say don't bother going you'll be teaching yourself anyway. I guess this is what you get at a research university. It's clear she doesn't want to teach, and she has no business doing so. Terrible teacher. thanks for destroying my 4.0 my senior year. Retook it and enjoyed the class and got an A. AVOID this disrespectful woman
Does not give clear explanation on due dates or such, if you're going to take Gen Chem (very tough class) please don't ruin your GPA by taking a class with her, I mean just look at the comments below. Take other professors if there is availability or just wait until next semester
She doesn't have a realistic expectation for students, she doesnt keep in mind that we are taking other classes. I asked her for help and she told me I cant help you unless you help yourself. She will call you out in the middle of class. Yes she knows about chemistry but has no business teaching it.
Teaches better than previous professors i had. She likes to actually explain how to do the problems and where common mistakes happen. She gave us lot of time to study for quizzes and tests. Also gave some easy extra credit on quizzes and test.
I had Burrow for Gen Chem and didnt like her. I was scared to take her for Nutritional Chem but it was not as bad as I thought. She assigns a lot of busy work. She has Notebook activities, questions to answer from the book, sometimes a movie to watch with questions and 3 exams including the final but study everything she has on the study guide
Horrible professor, DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Prepare to teach yourself through YouTube. She has honestly made me "HATE " chemistry.
She is the worst professor I have ever had. She does not work with you when you are sick or have family emergencies. She is condescending and unfriendly. The class average was very low for my class. Would never recommend her to anyone. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Knows a lot about the subject but doesn't know how to teach it, probably wouldn't be nearly as hard if she did. She speeds through her slides frequently and while she does give a couple practice problems she doe not do a good job explaining them, if she even attempts to. If you take her class be prepared to teach yourself, she expects you to.
Class was VERY difficult. If you're not prepared, you probably won't do well. Prof was not a good lecturer, moves quickly through the slides and don't really care. So, if you like to study from the textbook or do your own studying, then that's the only way you'll learn chemistry. You won't learn much in class, but it's mandatory attendance!
She is not a good professor. I had her for Gen Chem 1. I would get exceptional grades on the quizzes but her exams are graded very harshly. She goes very quickly through the material in class which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It takes of hard work and studying and she isn't clear on what she wants on exams. Do not take professor.
Not a bad teacher at at all. Do NOT take for an easy A or B. Her exams and online quizzes are pretty difficult, but she also offers lots of extra credit on exams and quizzes. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying outside of class. She prepared us EXTREMELY well for the ACS final.
Dr. Burrow is a respected and brilliant professor. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with her during Gen Chem I. Yes, she is a tough professor but she really does care about how much you learn and presenting the material in an engaging manner. By far one of the best chem professors on campus.
Dr. Burrow breaks down the hard concepts in lectures, but don't for a minute expect that showing up to class by itself will get you a good grade. I mean, hello! This is college! You have to study and do the homework. If you prefer partying to studying on weekends, then maybe science just isn't your cup of tea.
Burrow also goes by Crocker, probably because of all the horrible reviews she gets. Class attendance is mandatory if you want to do good on the test. She reads straight off of powerpoint slides and doesn't provide them online. Class overall was horrible and boring. I don't think anyone else teaches nutritional chemistry.
Dr. Burrow is a great teacher and is even better as an introductory chemistry professor. She gets everyone in the class involved and makes chemistry seem way less scary.
Condescending, unpleasant, sadistic, closed to feedback. Prohibitively high standards that will prevent anyone who isn't already good at chemistry from improving. You'll work hard. You'll learn nothing. You will be treated terribly. You'll hate chemistry. If you go to CU, take Gen Chem II at a different institution. You've been warned.
I took gen chem 1 with her. Lecture is a joke so I would say dont go but she has several pop quizes. Be prepared to teach yourself and if you dont have a STRONG chemistry background from high school then you will probably fail. Trust me dont take her; exams all have one question that is worth 30 to 40 percent of your exam grade. NOT WORTH IT
Takes forever to put in grades, so u don't know your grade until the last minute. The grade she gives isn't your actual grade, u have to do it on your own. Tests are difficult, average test grade is 60s, usually with no curve. Lectures aren't straight to the point. Expects you to learn on your own, but attendance matters. ALEKS sucks & so does she.
Her classes are extremely difficult & attendance isnt mandatory but if you dont show up you wont pass. Therefore, you might as well get yourself to class every time. Her exams are very difficult & a tough grader. Shes nice & can be accessible but shes not very helpful. I would take this class w another profesor!
She leaves you to understand on your own or to ask her Las
I actually really liked having Dr. Burrow. Her exams are fair; you're best bet is to do the practice problems at the back of each chapter. She does a little bit of lecture followed by participation activities that are for crdeit. I highly recommend attending every class because of those activities and she offered extra credit on a few occassions.
Personally, the worst professor I have ever had. She expects you to know everything without her having to actually teach you. Do not take her class if you don't like relearning all of the material from youtube videos and the textbook. Lecture is pointless but if you don't go, you will fail because of the participation activities and pop quizzes.
Dr. Burrow is a amazing professor. Yes you have to work hard... welcome to college. She does expect you to work outside of class. Compared to other chemistry classes, this class has amazing scaffolding and support. If someone took this class and found it hard it was due to lack of effort on the students part, NOT DR. BURROWs.
Dr. Burrow is one of the most condescending, rude and angry people Ive ever met. She gets angry at the class for disagreeing with her and treats students as if they are stupid. Her teaching style is confusing and difficult to follow, and she gets extremely angry when students speak up about grading issues or confusing teaching style.
Gen Chem 1 is a weed out class, and for people taking this their first or second year of college, its a wake up call for sure. The course itself can be hard, but Dr. Burrow gives you all the opportunities to do well if you take them. Theres study sessions, extra credit, etc. Shes an awesome professor and I would take her again for sure!
I would not recommend this professor to ANY first year students. She expects you to know all the content prior to her lecturing & it's very difficult to manage your time with this class. Her lectures are so confusing, yet you still have to show up to class for participation points & random quizzes. Doesn't offer extra credit & can be rude/dry.
This lab was the worst class I have ever taken. It was completely disorganized and the lab practical sets you up for failing the class.
Would not recommend Priscilla Burrow, uses ALEKS alot on top with other homework. You MUST have prior knowledge or you wont be able to past this class.
Exams were much different that what is studied for using the book.
First college science class for most, so it's tough. She gives a lot of participation points and extra credit so you can bounce back from a bad exam grade. Attendance not actually mandatory, but you get extra points. Quizzes in class and online aren't weighted heavily, so you can mess up and be ok. She spells out exactly what you to know for exams.
Burrow was the worst professor ever. Has several materials you are expected to learn from and you will be tested on all of it. 10/10 dont recommend her. If you do have her make sure this is your only class because you will only have time to focus on this class if you want to pass. Taken gen chem with professor Lin if you want a passing grade
Head the warning and avoid this professor at all costs. She takes pride getting students to fail. Never available for office hours and she is always condescending. Her tests are more difficult than o-chem tests because she intentionally tries to trip students up and one question is worth more than a third of your test grade. YOU WILL REGRET IT
Worst teacher I have ever had by far. If she wasnt head of the department with tenure maybe she would care about her job. I'd say attendance isn't mandatory because you will have to teach yourself the entire class but their are frequent pop quizzes. Except to see other students drop the class like flies. Don't waste your tuition money on her.
Dr. Burrow runs the chemistry labs and that is very unfortunate. During this semester a pandemic hit, and she was unwilling to make necessary adjustments. Adjustments that were made were last minute and poorly communicated. Communication was horrendous. I feel so bad for all the TAs who have to deal with students with a lack of info from her.
Dr. Burrow is a tough professor but if you're able to buckle down, you'll learn more than most General College Chem 1 classes. You're expected to know some baseline information from your high school chemistry class so you may need to take the chem refresher classes before enrolling in this class. It moves SUPER FAST! I loved her as a professor!
If you want to fail just take her
It's almost like she's trying to convince students that a degree in chemistry isn't worth it. The way her labs are run, you have to cheat to get an A. There's no possible way to learn everything she expects you to, within the timeframe she gives you. She provides no resources or help if you're struggling. Avoid her if you care about learning!
Dr. Burrow is hands down the WORST professor I have ever had, she is uncaring, rude, and couldn't care less about the student. Her TA's ran the online CHEM 1000 course and not very well I might add. She relies heavily on ALEKS online program which is awful in and of itself. Furthermore, she impossible to contact and refuses to use canvas properly.
It's unfortunate that the university continues to allow her to run the chemistry labs. She is one of the most rude and condescending people I've ever met. She encourages her TAs to treat students poorly and adopt her poor attitude. This class is much more work than its worth and is structured to set students up for failure. 0/10 Would not recommend
Worst professor ever. Very hard on students never takes feelings into consideration. She doesnt teach anything. She expects you to watch her videos and learn from Aleks on your own. Honestly, her TAs do all the work for her.
This was the hardest class I took, hardly any feedback from Dr. Burrow, the TAs did a good job but would have benefitted from more communication. This lab was really hard because of the lack of support on her end, I would avoid taking this lab if you can.
I was really struggling in this course this semester and the professor did not care at all. I emailed and reached out to her many times and she said it was not her fault I was struggling and I should work harder. The only instruction we got was Aleks and they were no help at all. Worst professor ever 0/10 do not recommend.
Her TAs do all of her work. Every week a very long lab assignment is due. quizzes are done every week and if not passed you cannot come into class. overall horrible chem class. would never take again. proctored cumulative final
Dr. Burrow is hands down the worst professor I've ever had. She made me and many others feel as though there was no way we could get through General Chemistry 1. I went to her office hours for advice on how to understand the content and she told me to study more (I was already studying 20 hours a week) and to figure out a different way to study.
Pricilla is not a good instructor. She is rude, condescending, and very mean. I would recommend taking your general chemistry classes with someone else or at another institution.
Dr. Burrow is completely soul crushing with exams in which the material does not match the YouTube videos posted in modules. You will not learn chemistry in this class. She has found a way to teach this course using the least amount of resources and time.
I already have an undergrad degree and have 4 years of undergrad experience to compare this course against. Lectures are disorganized and lack focus. Be prepared to learn most of the material outside of class. This course feels like a waste of my time and tuition money. I'd expect better from a senior chemistry facility member.
Her grading strategy will kill you. She expects that your report is written like a textbook. All of your other assignments are roped into 1 grade on your post-lab. Points are docked for EVERYTHING! It is nearly impossible to get even a B on a lab assignment. If you are sick and have a note you won't be allowed to make it up and will get a zero.
Please don't do what I did, I thought maybe the ratings were due to other factors and she couldn't be that bad. Oh my goodness this is the worst professor I have EVER had. She is the absolute worst, she is arrogant and condescending. This woman is bitter and she looks at you like a something under her shoe she stepped on. Don't take her
Her labs were very lengthy in busy work. In one lab I spent 7 hours straight on my off day making a total of about 15 graphs that overloaded my laptop to the point where it was glitching. Her grading is not reasonable for the amount of time students actually have. We don't live in a utopia where time isn't a scarce resource.
The most roundabout way to try and teach any class, this class isn't about learning they just want you to take tests.Takes up all your time, homework load ridiculous, lectures useless, will literally say "this is on the exam" and spends 10 seconds, lecture isn't posted til after class. There are pop quizzes too. The LAs teach better dont sign up
The amount of work expected for the lab is inhumane and sadistic. Each week you must do an entrance quiz, Active Learning (busywork), a content quiz, and a post-lab (which takes about 4-5 hours minimum). I understand that chemistry is a hard subject, but her lab is a huge waste of time. Don't take her lecture either; she is terrible in person too.
Don't take her for lecture, but also wanted to warn anyone taking lab too since she runs it. There's an insane amount of work each week and it's almost impossible to get full points. I spent 4-5 hours each week on the reports not including all the hours I spent staying after class and going to office hours and still couldn't get an A:(
I had professor Burrow for both lecture and lab, and she made my semester miserable. She lectures extremely quickly and spends little to no time explaining her slides. Not to mention her lab reports were awful I spent about 4 hours each week on the report, and I had to spend hours teaching myself the material from lecture. Do not recommend.
Quizzes did not line up with text book readings. Extremely hard grading criteria for lab reports. Too much in class activities that needed to be done without enough time.
Would not take her class again. The semester with her was beyond stressful. The comparison between her and other professors that teach the same class is black and white; not only in the classroom but in student performance as well. Extra credit isn't offered until later. Lecture heavy and boring.
Dr.Burrow was an amazing professor and I really did enjoy her classes. They're mostly flipped, however, calculation based questions and content heavy topics were all covered during her lectures. I retained most of the information taught during class.
Dr. Burrow was a really awesome professor. She really cares about students learning the topics so that they will know it for future classes. I really enjoyed her classes. She tells jokes, makes help videos, and answers any questions she can. I retained almost all of the information I learned in class. There's lots of extra credit and curves.
Dr. Burrow is super cool. At first she can appear stoic and hard to read, but in reality, she just has very high expectations for her students because she is confident in their abilities. Her class is not easy, but I think this can be said about any chemistry course. Study hard and you'll be fine.
Professor Burrow is nice, however the class is very homework heavy. If you don't complete ALEKS you may as well just drop the class. She offers opportunities for quiz retakes however the guidelines surrounding them are a little strange. Only attend's class one day. The other class period is review before a quiz that is led by TA's
Professor Burrow was an amazing teacher. Dr Burrow's lectures are informative, she cares about her students, and tries to make herself available for students to ask questions. I learned a ton from her class and thought she was completely underrated on this website so take the negative comments with a grain of salt....
I took general college chem w/ Dr. Burrow recently. She gives students all the tools we need to pass the class, it was up to us as students to ask for help when we needed it. Prof B, was knowledgable, well prepared for her lectures and tests. I would recommend her class to anyone who isn't afraid to work hard and wants to learn about chemistry.
a friend of mine and I took this class together and were pleasantly surprised how approachable and helpful she was.. She'd have pop quizzes often to try to get people to attend class..I have some learning difficulties and the professor was happy to meet with me over and over again for help. .I would take the class with her again.
Im a bit confused by the bad ratings. She's not a bad professor, just expects you to pull your weight in her class. ALEKS is a good tool to help understand concepts & practice problems & I did better on her tests because of it. As long as you are participating and completing assignments she is very willing to help. You earn your grade in this class
My favorite prof. As long as you turn in your assignments, and go to class, you will at the very least pass. If you go a little further, it would be fairly easy to get a good grade (A or B). BONUS: For Chem1000 and gen chem I she has allowed notecards on every single quiz and exam.
Class moves very fast and doesn't slow down. If you are behind it is very hard to caught up. LA's didn't really help much or know how to answer your questions.
Professor Burrow was responsive to email and easily accessible outside of class. Her assignments were explained thoroughly and some of them were fun since you could incorporate it into your life. I chose to watch the videos instead of reading the text online. Read the text, it provides more info than what she covers in the videos.
Go into the semester expecting the class & professor to be very difficult, and you'll make it. Class proceeds at a breakneck-pace; staying on top of homework is VITAL. Quizzes happen every week. Attendance is not taken but expect it to work like a flipped-format class, where you learn outside of class but come in for exams/practice problems.
She offers a lot of remake of quizzes and students are able to earn back points on quizzes. Students are also able to say "pass" whenever they are called during class if they do not know the answer or know what to say. Even though its outside of class work heavy, office hours are provided and are useful if students need extra help.
I didn't take her class but I worked with her as a Learning Assistant. She isn't a bad professor, she cares about students but if you're new to college or don't like to work alone or in your own time, dont take her class. She expects you to know everything and won't go over topics in the glass. Take anyone but her. Take it next semester
Dr Burrow I'm sure is a great professor but not for CHEM1000. The Aktiv platform she uses is TERRIBLE. I don't understand how students are supposed to learn math by clicking on a screen, it makes no sense whatsoever. She also doesn't put the due dates for assignments from Aktiv on Canvas. My advice, take Foundations in person with someone else.
so many different softwares you have to pay for and download, she is also all over the place when explaining things, borderline neurotic. you wont learn anything from trying to keep up with how many things you have to turn in on all the different websites. Just pick a different professor for your own sake.
I heard really negative things about Dr. Burrow before taking her class. However, taking her class has been nothing but pleasant. Dr. Burrow has come off as such a sweet person this semester and I really enjoyed taking her class. Maybe she has turned a new leaf since all those students had bad experiences? Idk.
This professor made my life a living hell! First of all, you would never see this professor if you were taking her lab, and you would also have only to email your TA about questions. Her lab reports are very difficult. She expects you to know everything even though the lab does not align with your lecture. You will be spending 5+ hours doing the hw
It is impossible to get an A in this class. I spent 7+ hours doing the work for this class, putting this classwork over my core classes. If you even do good on something they find a way to take away points. The in-class lab is very stressful, you have to complete everything and turn in the datasheet by the end of class or your grade will suffer
This professor did not teach anything. She only provided youtube videos as lectures which only taught steps to basic easy question without teaching the concept. Her test and quizzes would then have impossible hard questions. In fact, some question were never discussed. Her grading criteria was never clear, and never communicated some assignments.
When I met her in person I could tell she wanted to do right by her students. I think the semester I took her, she was teaching too many classes. It was online and you can only do so much in an online class.
Professor Burrow's CHEM2031 class is challenging but rewarding. The pace is fast, so staying on top of the material is crucial. Attending lectures and using resources like unstuck AI helped me succeed. Overall, a tough but valuable experience.
Taking General Chemistry 1 with Dr. Burrow was a frustrating experience. She jumps into complex topics immediately, uses a poorly executed flipped classroom, and is often snappy. The LAs were unhelpful and gave incorrect guidance, leading to mistakes she would scold students for. The class lacked support, making it unnecessarily stressful.
First day she said "I'm not your high school chemistry teacher & this isn't high school chemistry." For an in person class, everything is actually online. Hope you like group work, it's every class, on things we JUST learned (from watching the videos on canvas). 2/3 the class dropped in sp25 & she drops the passing grade to 50% "if she needs to"
She wasn't necessarily my professor, but she's the department chair at CU Denver, and I am so disappointed and angry. I love chemistry, but she has made the labs at CU Denver stressful and weird. She has set us up for failure, it makes me feel like she's gatekeeping chemistry.
Don't even think about relying on her for the actual class information. All the "real deal" material is basically self taught and when she does cover things in class, it's CRAZY overcomplicated. Take her class if you don't mind teaching yourself the entire course but with contradictory instructions and horrible explanations.
Dr. Burrow is a pretty nice person, however, if you're used to not having to study/minimal effort into classes, maybe reevaluate. She is a very tough grader and almost the entire grade depends on the exams (3 throughout the semester), quizzes, and ALEKS participation. Also, the way she sets up her grade calculations is super weird.
I've taken two labs guided by Pricilla Burrow now. In both cases the lab reports are complicated, require extremely specific formatting and I was never taught that formatting. When I reach out for help with the lab reports in general formatting and questions about my math I'm told that "pregrading and not allowed" terrible teacher. do avoid!
This course was horribly taught. There is no teacher involvement and you basically teach yourself from the PowerPoints. The homework assignments are long and there is absolutely no room for error. Way too much work. When it's time for the exams, don't bother studying because she makes them way too challenging and the study guides are useless.
She told me if I wanted to take the class again she could recommend a different professor to me, that I wouldn't learn as much but the grading would be easier. She didn't even lecture though so I actually didn't learn anything from her.
This class was extremely difficult for no reason, especially for it being online. Most of the assignments were ridiculous to give to students, ie. get blood drawn. Some quizzes and all exams are lockdown browser/monitored, which wouldn't be bad if they werent so hard and if we could use notes, but nope. Bad late policy and rlly hard exams.
Overall, I found this course to be really fun. The weekly discussions and activities were really creative and encouraged you to connect the content to your own observations and experiences. The only thing is that the exams are pretty difficult, and there are Mastering Nutrition homework assignments that are basically a long quiz each week.
If your learning style is just to watch videos and take notes-this class is for you! Uses Aktiv for homework, some hw assignments were as long as 105 questions (over thanksgiving break), exam questions are incredibly hard, and they "study guide" was just a list of learning objectives.
