Although this professor is brand new to SDSU as of Fall '22, he has an extensive professional background of over 20 years from multiple tech industries to reference when teaching project management. Still actively working as a business professional outside of teaching, so the potential for this class being value-packed is high. Take him!
Lectures are overloaded with information that covers many topics, yet no clear structure on what needs to be focused on for exams. Tests are too difficult and lengthy 75 Q's/75mins, Quizzes 40 Q's/30mins, no study guide provided, assignments are heavily criticized, yet zero direction on how to succeed! Not worth the stress. AVOID if you can.
exams r nothing like the book or lectures. The average for exams is horrible. Lectures are just the textbook. gives no guidance for the exams. He seems like he wants to teach us how the real world is but does not understand that we are students for a reason and its our first time learning this. This is one of the worst guided classes ive ever taken
He is honestly mean. As a professor, you should be teaching students the subject. It is their first time learning the topic. Desai acts as if students are supposed to already know the material. He says "there are no stupid questions", yet criticizes you for asking questions in class. Makes the exams 10x harder than material learned with no guidance
Professor Desai is an expert in Project Management, working as a PM currently, and often applying textbook concepts to what he has seen on the job. He uses a very traditional teaching style -- in the one meeting per week class, he will lecture off of his slides for 3 hours straight. Pay attention and take notes and you will pass the class.
Professor Desai is an excellent resource for anyone that is considering project management. He covers the material well and is willing to answer any questions you have about applying the material in a real-world situation. The syllabus is straightforward and there are no surprises in the grading criteria. Tests are difficult, study hard for them.
Professor Desai is an excellent resource in and outside of the classroom. Although the tests and group projects can be difficult to navigate, he really wants students to learn. Having worked at top companies during his day job, he is still an empathetical and excellent teacher. Would recommend!
He is very knowledgeable and really wants his students to learn as much as they can from him. There is a lot of material to learn quickly and for some that's a little difficult. There is a huge group project that is very time consuming. He will help you when you need it, even staying late after our late class.
This class was based on quizzes and group projects mainly, I believe the professor is easy to approach and cares for his students, if project management is a course you enjoy I would take it with him!
Overall Professor Desai was great professor. Instructions were clear and responded to emails very quick. 2 group projects and a exam. If you study and review the modules your going to do well. Highly recommend his class.
Professor Desai a honest grader. I had great time in his course would definitely recommend.
I'm sorry but it was an extremely boring class. He is very nice but the class definitely needs a rework. Maybe do some more dynamic things in class? He doesn't really have a "presentation" for each class. Weekly online quiz with some group projects sprinkled in there.
Cool guy. Quizzes are tough, make sure you get a good group for the group project or ur screwed.
His lectures were repetitions of his videos, so I stopped attending them after the first few classes. The group projects have little guidance and are graded harshly. However, the professor provides good feedback on what to include in your final project submission to perform better.
Overall a solid course and a good professor that cares. Can't ask for much more than that, you also for the most part get what you put into it. Tests are reasonably hard, study before taking them and you should have enough time though. Glad the course is over, but if I could take a different course with the same prof I would.
Was a harder class than I thought it'd be but the professor was a fair grader
The professor is really passionate about the subject. He knows what he's talking about and wants students to learn. Don't be afraid to ask questions as he can give good explanations to help you understand the topic better. Make sure to study up on the readings and the lectures to help you when taking the exams because they are pretty tough.
Overall an excellent & valuable course! Professor Desai is very patient and willing to work with students. Quizzes and exams are very fair as long as you complete the weekly modules/readings. You will walk away from the course with a lot of information valuable for a variety of future career paths!
The grade is based on quizzes, exams and two main projects. As long as you pay attention to the video lectures and textbook you should do pretty well. The projects have a lot of moving parts, so be sure to start them early with your group.
Two Exams and multiple small quizzes. Be prepared to work with teammates since there are two big projects that you will be involved with. Make sure to stay on top of things and you will do fine.
Honestly a pretty solid class. It is very much a course where you have to take the time to learn it yourself, but the professor is super knowledgable and approachable. Quizzes were online and easy, it was just the group and MS project that was difficult. Study and practice beforehand and you'll get a decent grade.
Professor Pritesh Desai was a kind and awesome instructor. By far, he was one of the best professors I had at SDSU. He responds promptly and explains concepts clearly. He genuinely cares about his students succeeding and makes sure you have what you need to pass the class. I highly recommend taking Project Management with Professor Desai.
The professor cares about his students and inspires them. He is a fair grader and understands your effort with all your work.
going to lectures helps grasp concepts better; weekly online quizzes not worth too much, easy to do well; mid-term and final online bit harder than quizzes so study; Prepare well for Microsoft Project at end of semester, very time consuming; grading on group project not too bad, get it done sooner than later; great professor very accommodating
MIS 460 is Peoject Management so it is a very useful and in
Professor Desai is helpful and experienced. The class has weekly lectures and tests, if you keep up on these, you will do well. The group project is manageable and relevant. The MS project is difficult, so just make sure to practice and put the time in for it. The class is structured well, and he puts a lot of effort into making it worthwhile.
Very responsive. Give detailed feedback. Care about student's progress. The materials covered is this course is quite heavy but extremely helpful when you want to learn to look at the big picture at corporate managements. The only thing I wish we had was more spread out individual assignment so we can have more time for materials
Awesome professor who is passionate about what he teaches, and really wants his students to learn. I will say, for someone who did not have any knowledge in the subject before, it was a tough course with heavy material. But, I learned more than ever in one semester. So, if you want to learn project/program management, this is the course for you!
Professor has very good amount of experience in the field, so has a lot of stories and real life scenarios about different situation. Can explain things very easily about difficult concepts. Will surely take another class of this professor. And will also ask students who want to really learn about the Program Management to take this class.
Professor is an experienced professional in the field & knowledgeable. Gives detailed feedback on the group assignments, which helps one think deeply and apply the concepts during the group projects. Make sure to choose a good group for the projects as it matters for your final score and presentation. Overall a good course to learn project mgmt!
Great knowledge was gained from his shared experiences during the class lectures and group assignments. The group assignments weigh heavily toward your overall grade, so be sure to pick your group members wisely, as it will matter in the end. Participation counts too! Overall, do your best & you'll be good.

He genuinely cares about students' success and is highly recommended for learning project management.
Professor Desai was awesome! He brought lots of real life examples into the classroom and challenged us frequently to expand our minds on how we would manage projects and programs!
He is very clear and defined in his teaching of the coursework. Mentions guidelines and deadlines well ahead, for us to plan our semester. Quite well experienced in this field being an industry professional, he adds examples from corporate during lectures. Overall had no concerns!
Professor Desai's class was really engaging and fun to be in. He really provokes you to critically think with his class discussions regarding the world of program management. He is very approachable, always willing to help, and really is a subject matter expert in his respective field. It is important to attend class and listen to his lectures
No textbook b
Group papers- 3 of them- choose your group wisely and participate- peer evals are considered in grading No textbook but focus on lectures and readings Quizzes & Exams are online- really no reason to get below 75% on them Attendance is not mandatory- there is a participation grade at the end ex: I missed 2 classes & got a 9/10! Take him!
This course is highly relevant for anyone looking to go into PM, and the professor is highly knowledgeable in the content. He was approachable and responsive to questions, and his feedback on assignments was detailed and constructive. I would recommend taking MIS697 prior to this course, as it provides a strong basis for MIS750.
The class is full of fun case studies and activities. The lectures are very much engaging.
The class lectures was very engaging and interactive. The professor kept the class interesting with lot of business case studies and activities.
Professor Desai has mastery over project management. You can learn as much as you put into the class. I was able to get a new job using what I learned. Truly life changing course.
If you're looking for real-world project management knowledge, this professor is one of the best. The lectures are engaging, hands-on, and full of practical insights. It's not an easy A—you have to work for your grade. But if you put in the effort, you'll learn a lot and be rewarded for it.
This class is exactly what you should want in an MBA class. The lessons were practical and challenging. Professor Desai provides clear instructions and expectations. His standards are high and those looking for an easy A should look elsewhere. Those looking for quality instruction and real world application should be excited to challenge themselves
Professor Desai's material was challenging, but rewarding. There was a wonderful mix of assignments that tested your theoretical and practical knowledge. Highly recommended for those looking to learn both the fundamentals as well as the intricacies of project management.
Prof. Desai is a great professor that taught me a lot. The class may be difficult but the topics are applicable to many different career paths that you may go through. Understanding project management is a huge bonus to anyone's skills and this is an elective that is almost certainly applicable to any job you go into post-MBA. He knows his stuff
Struggled with some of the quizzes and exams. Project Management is very subjective and I believe that made things harder than they should. But overall a great class. Make sure you have a good team or the course will get very painful.
Great Professor!
Professor Desai is a caring and genuinely funny. He wants to see his students succeed. The class can be lecture-heavy at times but mangeable. To do well on tests, make sure you stay on top of the readings. Overall, I enjoyed the class and found it very informative.

The class includes a few exams and 3 group projects, make sure to choose your group wisely and attend class to be successful.

Very knowledgable on the project/program/portfolio management process. Tests are challenging, but informative. Applies real-world examples into the course.
Even though it is hard to get 100 points you will learn a lot
He is a really great guy and is interessted in you and that you learn something!
I loved this course. As soon as the first class of the semester was over, I knew it would be my favorite course. The professor is great, very responsive, and helpful, especially with giving clear feedback on papers and group projects. Just make sure to choose a great group! His tests are on the lockdown browser and a bit difficult in all honesty.
Professor is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, but he is a very hard grader; exams are very difficult, as are the group projects. He is very interesting and an expert in what he does, which is refreshing. Would not recommend if you are looking for an easy A but it is an enriching course.
Lecture slides are overloaded. Too much information.
He is very understanding!
This professor brings real-world insight into every lecture, making the material both relevant and accessible. He has a talent for breaking down complex ideas into clear, understandable explanations. His classes feel interactive and thoughtfully paced, ensuring students stay involved. He creates a welcoming environment with his friendly demeanor.

While the lectures are very content heavy, the professor does his best to make the content engaging and brings plenty of real world examples to drive the content forward. Online tests and three group projects. Choose your project partners wisely!

Professor is pretty good, and has a lot of relevant experience.
Professor loves to give us hands-on experience through the three class projects. These projects really help us grasp the concepts better. During lectures, he uses real-life industry problems as examples, making learning more engaging and interesting.
I enjoyed the class. The professor can give more time for the quizes so we dont finish it in hurry.
I enjoyed the class. A lot of group projects and assignments. Can give little more time to finish the quizes. I felt a time crunch to finihs quizes.
Reasonably entertaining but I had to fill out this survey for a grade
The professor is very practical. He has a chill vibe and keeps things engaging with a bit of humor and different in class activities, so the class never feels boring. The course itself is pretty huge, but he tried to cover maximum. He's also very friendly and understanding, which made me comfortable to reach him when I need help.
Excellent professor
The professor is very friendly and committed, and you definitely learn a lot in this course. The slides contain quite a lot of text, which can make it challenging to follow at times. He has high expectations, but they also help build a solid understanding of the material.
Great professor overall, would take again. His professional experience added significant value to the course content. Tough grader on group projects, with unclear guidance; expect to receive a lower grade than the effort you put in. Gives valuable feedback, though.
The group project papers take a lot of work. Make sure you select good group members and set consistent internal goals/standards. Exams are difficult but online with lockdown and open book if you have another device.
Professor Desai has valuable real-world experience that pairs well with his lectures. Test's are difficult. The bulk of the classwork is group projects, so make sure you choose a great group. Show up to class, put in the work for the group assignments, presentation and you should be fine.
Knows his stuff! If you're interested in these subjects, you'll finish the course with a deeper understanding of what it really takes to succeed in this field. Project grading may be tough, but you'll learn a lot from his feedback. He is now officially the goat. 🐐
Great professor who really knows program management. The course is very vocabulary-dense, so lectures can feel heavy, but he explains concepts clearly and keeps things engaging. He's approachable, supportive, and genuinely a cool guy, especially great for an MBA course.
passionate professor, simple syllabus, heavy group work
Professor delivered valuable information from his industry experience and consistently gave encouragement. Materials in this course was difficult, as it condensed project, program, and portfolio management frameworks in a single semester. Doable, important to create a good group. Exams are open book. Tough but fair grader, values student learning.
Professor Desai puts in efforts to make sure that the concepts are well taught in class. He's kind and understanding, and provides good feedback on overall coursework. Difficult quizzes and extensive group work, but the learnings and takeaways make it worth it.
One of the best class I have taken in SDSU, with lots of in class activities and engaging case studies which kept the class lectures very interesting and Professor Desai always kept the class interactive. There were also guest lectures which made the classroom sessions much more exciting.
One of the most impactful courses I've taken so far in the MBA program. Professor Desai is understanding, kind, and refreshingly straightforward. He prioritizes that students gain value from the course. Group work is extensive, and tests are challenging, but overall, it is rewarding, and hard work pays off.
Professor has in depth knowledge of the subject. Teaches every topic in detail
