Wow!!
Doesnt speak very good english, hard to understand, and dont buy the book, u only use it once.
Easy class but very, very boring. She's very helpful but she explains everything over too many times.
This class in general is absurd, and while she is helpful and wants everyone to understand, half of the class just doesn't pay attention.
the notes explained what she didnt (which was almost everything). she talked to her feet and hard to understand. awful attire(hard to pay attention to because of this). she'll help you w/ hw if you go to her. luckily i met some good friends to help me survive. i got an A easy but i had to read notes
She is not bad but talks really fast and writes absurdly fast and slopply on the board. She is nice and easy so i give her and over all OK rating.
speaks poor english, bright yeloow slippers worn often detract from learning environment,...book not needed at all, boring but fairly easy if you work a little
the class is mostlly about logic. Gives pleanty of time on test. when I took the class the book was not really necessary, most material are taken from an online website. Highlly recomended Will repeat alot of the information. easy A.
This professor has really bad apparel and talks too much non-sence, lost all the time.
Cant understand her and the class is hardcore nerdy. Boring but it is not extremely hard
I don't doubt her intellectual level... it's just I wish she could've opened her jaw when she lectured so that I knew what she was saying. ANd also I wish she wouldn't have muttered towards the ground.
Easy class to sleep in, and progresses extrememly slowly
Boring teacher, put me to sleep regularly. Could never tell what she was saying cuz of her accent. Only interest in the class was waiting for her to arrive to class to see all of the different color slippers she owned.
She's nice and she clearly tries to get everyone involved and interested, but most students just don't care enough, because the class just isn't that interesting. It's only 50 minutes, but it seems like 5000000000 hours.
She never says anything once. I always catch her repeating herself for no apparent reason.
Those who are distracted by her apparel ought not to be in college. Those who consider the class too nerdy ought not to be in college. Lowe is very helpful, and the truth is, most students like to blame her for the fact that they don't understand the material because they don't bother to study.
Maannn..... phew.

She tries her hardest to make you understand the subject. It's not that hard just put in a little effort and grading scale is to our advantage. Don't buy the book.
C prog, Ive had it before but didnt transfer correctly. Good thing too, shes a sweet woman but she sucks at teaching. Class is scaled in student favor, very leniant, gives retests, works with you on assignments. Wont learn jack though, good thing I already took the class. If you're already good at Proggy and just want A, take her.
hard teacher, can not understand her at all. never took one day off or cancelled class. always was unorganized.
She seems hard at first, but it gets pretty easy when you kind of get the hang of it. Go to her office hours and she will make sure you understand everything, even if you're retarded. Hard to understand sometimes because of her accent.
She was hard for most of the students to understand but for some reason i completely understood what she was talking about and as long as you study the worksheets you will do really good on the tests.
She always repeats herself unnecisarrily so the lectures are hard to pay attention to. This class barely has anything to do with computers. The material is pretty interesting, but she makes it uninteresting. Homework every week; graded for correctness. 4 exams, set out exactly like the homework.
Lowe definitely knows her stuff, but she can be difficult to understand at times. The material is pretty straight forward, I did hw in class and aced every test w/o studying. Just pay attn and go to class, you'll be totally fine!
Her class was very easy she had a built in curve, so class wasn't hard at all I got an A. Although it was really boring, it was very easy. We didn't end up using the book it ended up being extra credit on the final.
Omg! this teacher really gave me trouble. shes so hard to understand, and I would ask for help in class and after class only getting me more confused! She puts people down by saying phrases like "Don't you see?" or "It's obvious!" and when she explains something to class and we ask her to clarify so only repeats the same words she used the first ti

She was always available to help, but it sometimes got confusing, the paper wasn't hard either, I thought it was easy if you paid attention but I don't think I will ever use what I learned.
Terrible teacher. Very difficult to understand! Repeats herself regularly... boring as heck!
Anyone who doesn't do well in her CSCI 1 is a noob. She is a fair instructor with fair grading, although it seems like she might be tired of dealing with the noobs.
Terrible teacher, nice lady - very hyper and almost blonde. Despite being English speaking, 1/2 the things she says are elementary expressions arbitrarily put in every sentence. The work/tests are relatively easy. Material is self taught. She ignores teaching and unclearly goes into concepts without going over how to use them. Book is barely useful
Teacher thoroughly knows what shes talking about to the smallest details but has problems fully explaining it to students beyond reading them the notes. When asked for clarity repeats herself..
Very easy class. Material is easy to learn and she is very helpful. Always available during office hours and will check your answer to see if they are right. Overall easy A. Don't buy the textbook you do not use it.
the material isnt hard, but its not interest which in turn makes it boring. she doesnt teach well & REPEATS herself & MUMBLES! she is nice tho & is willing 2 help. class is boring. i spent the semester pretty confused but sumhow pulled a C. if u actually try & u grasp the key concepts, u shuld be alright. just always do the hw & write the paper
Hard class. I had to review the notes a couple of times before understanding the material. Lecture is important but she talk a little too fast, so kind of confusing to understand. Yet, she is curving the exam, and you just need 86% to get an A. So the grading scale is set a few % below the normal.
Seriously, one of the worst teachers I have ever had. i took her class, and she always mumbled. She could never speak straight with you. You could never tell what she was talking about. but, she does offer to help you. Don't count on your notes though, you HAVE to read your book. If you're not interested or you don't need it, don't take this class.
Easy A for anyone that pays attention in class. 86% is an A. There are 3 midterms with problems very similar to the hw and the final is made up of questions very similar to the midterms. takes a while to grade hw, but keys are given afterwords so you can figure out the problems. mumbles a lot. helpful outside of class. doesn't take role. no book.
Pretty easy but SUPER
Pretty easy but SUPER BORING!
Overall, she is an ok professor. She mumbles so much and it's really hard to comprehend what she says sometimes. She knows her material really well, but at times she can't teach it. For me I would recommend taking another class for Critical Thinking rather than this one.
Attendance not mandatory but will recommend that you go because it's like a math class, it's a process that builds upon each step and if you miss one day you can easily get behind! She really wants you to do well and she makes her self available for you!
Here's the deal with Professor Lowe. She mumbles a lot so if you insist on taking this class at least sit in the front. However, she makes the material seem like nonsense because she's almost too smart to teach a G.E. class. She doesn't know how to put stuff in easy terms. Incredibly confusing class. Take another class from that G.E. area.
She speaks about three times the normal speed and mumbles, making it impossible to understand her. She is impatient and belittles students. I had her for lab and Li for lecture. It was a miserable semester.
one of the hardest classes. She talks really fast. CSCI 1 is suppose to be about intro to comp systems but the book and lect had nothing to due with one another. I got a C but i attended her office hrs almost everyweek to get help with hw. Just take another class for G.E or else your have to teach your self the material
For some reasons, this is the only class that I always get tired and yawn like every freaken minute....
with her mumbleing and extremely fast talking I could barely understand what she was trying to teach. I got a C and basically had to teach myself the material. Im glad I passed the first time because I NEVER want to take it again. Ruined my whole semester.
Professor Lowe is a great teacher. She talks fast, but she does not mumble unless you sit in the back in the class. The class is fairly challenging but if you ask alot of questions she will stop and explain it and you just have to pay attention in there. she is a funny woman. I pass her class with an A. test are exactly what she teach during lectur
you might need to go to her office hours especially if u missed a day. Overall the class was easy and she will answer and thoroughly explain any question you have
The class was cake. I had a 99 going into the final. The material is not hard and she is really nice. But my classmates were idiots and never showed up to class and they complain that she sucks. If you go to class, everything else will be easy. Also you don't need the book.
Very helpful professor. Sit towards the front and you will be able to understand her. If there is something that you do not understand, go to her office hours and she will easily clear it all up for you. During office hours, take your homework with you and she will help you with it. Easy A, but for some students like me office hours were mandatory.
Professor Lowe is an extremely helpful teacher and will go out of her way for help. I think she frustrates herself sometimes from wanting every student to do well. She tends to talk fast so sit towards the front of class and show up everyday because the class is a process that builds upon itself. Overall the class was easy and I finished with an A.
Easy class. Extremely boring so be ready for it. Lots of times where you can miss lecture.
She was a good teacher. You really didnt have to go to class because all of the notes were on blackboard and explained everything good.
i've been in this class for 2 weeks and its ruining my semester!! she talks too fast, class is extremely boring and it WILL get confusing. the only thing i've gotten out of that class is: true false true false true false. if a and b if a then b...take another ge class if possible, you will want out once your in!!
This teacher is very hard to understand and repeats herself all the time. She is horrible at explaining things and just reads straight off of the powerpoint. I would try and get a different teacher for this class.
Not the best teacher in the world... hard to understand and likes to ramble on about nothing.
She speaks VERY fast and has an accent that is hard to understand. I'm a computer science major and I've been having to teach myself the material, WHILE tutoring other kids in the class. If you're talking this for the G.E. area, chose a different class.
By far one of the worst teachers. Very hard to understand the material and the teacher at the same time. Hard to believe a teacher of this quality could be employed at a State University.
She really doesn't teach the material in the easiest fashion. The material is super easy, but she explains it in the most intricate and confusing way. Find someone that understands it and you will learn the material in 10 minutes (not even a exaggeration). I didn't go to her classes and had my friend explain it to me the night before and I passed.
Dr. Lowe is awesome. She really cares about her students, especially when you come to her for help. She is the nicest person ever, and does an overall pretty good job at teaching basics in programming. Read the book, and STUDY!!! You are sure to do fine. Not an easy class if you don't plan on reading, or practicing to actually learn what ur doing
SO HARD!!! I worked so hard, went to her office hours and got help, the subject just didn't click with me. She is nice, but it was so hard, take another subject!
I had to rely on my friends that already knew programming to help correct my homework and teach me what was going on - because quite frankly, after the first couple labs I didn't understand much of what was going on.
Super nice but doesn't explain the best way. Talked to others taking 40 with a different prof, seems all the professors are the same. You'll have to read the book. Tests are pretty easy just study the labs. Attendance isn't mandatory she just goes over the chapter and quizzes are scheduled on the syllabus but she tends to get behind and reschedule
She is a great teacher. She talks to her students like children. It's actually very easy. Here and there is confusing, but I understand what's going on. She has a tiny voice also.
She's super nice and will help you with your homework. Overall the class was easy for me because I actually paid attention. Sit in the front! This is college. You're not going to pass this class if you ditch everyday. Take advantage of her office hours and ASK QUESTIONS.
The teacher is kind of hard to understand at some times, but is willing to spend time with you if you need extra help. The homework is just like the tests and quizzes so do them and understand them to do well in the class. A research critique is also mandatory, however is not very difficult.
Mrs. Lowe is one of those teachers that doesn't really understand what her students want from her. For example, a student can ask "Mrs. Lowe, what does 'X' mean?" and she will reply with "Oh, Y means..." She rambles on and on about the same subject. She rarely allows room for questions; she starts her lecture and doesn't stop until theb ell rings.
At the beginning of the semester, Mrs. Lowe explained to me that this class would be about learning the basics of the C computer language. We did not even mention the very basics of code until the last week of lectures. The rest of the semester was geared towards turning sentences into logical statements. Not the class I was looking for.
First time taking her class, I find her lectures to be very confusing and most of the time I don't even understand what is she teaching. Tests based on assignment so if you revise it should be fine. However, this isnt an easy subject to score A (unless you know some basic stuff bout codes). Most of the time I have to study by my own.
Lowe is smart & definitely knows what she's talking about. She's just not that great at TEACHING. Some things can be explained in a much more simpler manner, but she makes it so complex! Stumbles a bit, slight accent. If you practice the hw and truly understand it, there shouldn't be a reason why you can't get an A. You just really have to practice
Extremely confusing class. Lectures are torture, especially in the morning. Teacher can be hard to understand. However course material is easy and I recommend you skip normal class and learn concepts in office hours. That's how I turned my D into a B. Overall there are better GE classes to take but if you're interested in CS major I recommend
This was my first foray into programming. She made it pretty straightforward. Her tests are long, but curved. It is easy to lose focus during lecture because she rambles mumbles a lot. The hw is ok, and the exams pulls questions directly from the hw. Overall the class was fun and interesting.
She is terrible at communicating her information to the class. Class is very boring and it's tough to ask her questions because she will tell you not to because her class is so short. Make friends or drop the class.
Overall she is a very intelligent person she does try and take the time to explain things, but then she speeds up because she is very passionate about computer science. I had really no idea how to do the homework until I started reading more on the notes that she posts online. The class is challenging but 60% is the cut off for a C.
She is terrible.... We never used the textbook and then got tested on vocabulary words, she is confusing and never answers your questions. Take anyone else. You will regret taking her....
I took her for two classes... One of them she was really clear and on the other she went really through the material, we didn't use the textbook much. She posted all the notes online and tons of examples and study guides. Csi 1 was a super easy class but CSI40 is the hardest class i ever taken. She's not the best of teachers but you can pass her.
If you are not majoring into CS then I prefer you not to take the class because it well be hard to understand since they are all basically in the world form of math as well as prepare yourself for logical thinking. She gives example from past classes and to pass the midterms you just need to learn the rules of CSCI.
My topic here is Csci 40, and let me tell you, the material you learn in here won't be sufficient to succeed in Csci 41(After 40). Csci 40 is difficult for people new to Programming (C). Take time to learn on your own, and before going into 41, know For loops, linked lists, structures, classes(C++), & pointers. They will NEVER go away.
I like to call this class copy and paste 101. seriously, if you're on here you don't need this class. Attendance is mandatory, you will want to ditch. keeps asking "is everything alright?" if people talk in class.
CSCI 1 is not the class to take if you are interested in the field, I recommend CSCI 40. It's basically math with words. Even worse, Lowe is not the best teacher. She has a speech impediment, you do get use to but her teaching isn't clear even without it. She is a very nice person though and if you talk to her and ask questions, she will help you.
She is very slow and will repeatedly ask if every one is understanding the material. All the time. CSCI 1 is a very boring class but an easy A and fills a GE requirement. If you want an over view of the class, it's logic problems (True and True True) (False and True False) (True or False True) if you follow along you will be fine.
Class is super easy and not much required. Class is mostly about logical components and true and false statement. Easy A to fill GE
I would definitely not recommend this class if you are not a computer major. I had a lot of trouble during the the second half of the semester. I didn't have much knowledge in logical components or circuits, and I left the class the same way. Prof. Lowe is a really nice lady, but has a speech impediment when she gives lectures.
If you listen, you should be able to pass the tests. There was probably a total of 5 HW assignments throughout the semester and you have one 1250 word paper to write. Fairly easy class. If you're a CSCI major, take this. If you aren't, you'll still be fine, but might learn some irrelevant things during the second half. If you need help, ask.
You will need to attend class and pay attention. Personally, the class starts pretty easy as you are introduced to C++, but as the semester progresses, the difficulty increases. 4 HW assignments throughout the class. Don't forget to read/ interact with your online book; its very helpful and required. Go to SI sessions and office hours if needed
It is easy and there is no reading or homework. Take the final only if you never show up to class.
Easy class...i mean like really easy, just like mentioned before its like a copy & paste class. i would recommend adding this class even if you're a full time student.
Dr. Lowe is a very hard worker. She can be a bit strange in all honesty, but she's also extremely nice. She does her job well and is willing to go above and beyond to help students. I would definitely recommend taking Dr. Lowe.
She is very passionate about teaching and cares a lot about her students. The key to passing if you do not understand computer science is to go to her office hours and have her check your homework so that you always get 100% on them. The class itself may not be interesting but you have a good chance of getting an easy A if you try to pay attention
I took her class for two semesters because I failed her class the first because I kept ditching. I took her again because she is a nice and an honest professor. Like she really cares about her students. She always tell you her office hours but study/ hw. You will forget you will have quiz sometimes.
This is not at all a hard class. You have a choice of either attending or taking the final. There are 12 labs and that and attendance is your only grade. Super easy, but your better off just doing the work on your own and using the class time to work on homework.
Out of everyone in CSCI, Lowe is the best professor. She is truly caring and wants everyone to pass. Her classes are very straight-forward and she gives study guides that are exactly what the exams will be like. Simple courses, just make sure to show up and pay attention and you will do great.
Very caring and genuinely cares for her students. She makes sure you understand the content and is accessible outside of class. Comp1 is super easy, and Comp40 is surprisingly easy. I already have experience coding, but the book you use helped me get an even better grip on things. If you take 40, the 1 final is extremely easy.
Class is all lecture. Grade is labs and a few tests so make sure to study for tests. But, Dr. Lowe is very understanding and accepts late work, and explains concepts well one-on-one if you ask for help.
Lowe is a very caring and understanding teacher. Her lectures can get a little long and boring, but ALWAYS get your homework checked at the end of class. She helps and you will always get the right answers. Just do the few homework assignments, the 1000 word essay, take notes, and you will be fine. Otherwise, this class is easy and doable.
Read, read, and more reading. Do your study properly will help.
Lowe is so caring when it comes to her students. She's not the best lecturer in the world but she will help you understand anything you don't get. You will emerge from her class feeling both smarter and dumber. Take her, you'll see what I mean.
I enjoyed her class. She is very sweet and understanding. The class wasn't difficult but if you don't attend her lectures and if you don't take notes it's likely you won't pass her class. She can get a bit boring sometimes but I tried my best to keep up. Her grading is also very fair. I plan to take CSCI40 with her too and I can't wait.
Teaching methods are not affective
Very nice professor. However, she is VERY boring. Has nothing to do w/ computer. Don't buy textbook b/c you won't use it. Lectures are not helpful. Reviews for test/exam are worst b/c she just reads the HW to you. You're best off learning by yourself if you take this class. AND she only gives you only 10-20min to do the test/quiz/exam. GOOD LUCK!
Grading is vague; doesn't post until the end. Lectures are boring. Doesn't know how to teach. Poor voice level in class. She doesn't clarify completely. Doubtful professor.
she is a very nice professor but doesn't mean she is a good professor. Her teaching style wasn't great. She pretty much reads her slides and explain it one time and expects you to know it. lectures are boring. had a hard time listening to her because so time she wouldn't speak loud enough.
Professor Lowe is very sweet. Her classes are fine, just study, work hard on the homework, and ask for help (!!) when doing the labs if needed. Exams are not very hard if you put in the time when studying.
