He's an ****
hahah he's such a great teacher! The first day he was an a** to scare everyone off, then the second week he was all "ok, the wusses left, now I know u guys are serious, and we can have fun" hahaha to the person below who said he was an a** =) u shoulda stayed! and btw, it's 201 not 101.
its a HARD class but he tries to make it easy for us. Ive never learned so much but still had fun in a class before. FUN? SCHOOL? thats not supposed to be
Mr. Lau was probably the best teacher I have ever had. This class was so hard because of the content and the amount of information and I could not have passed it if I had not taken it with him. He is funny and he knows his stuff. I would suggest taking him. Even though I wasn't doing well in the class i still liked going.
Prof Lau is just an awesome teacher. Probably one of my top 5 ever. This was my second time taking the class. I hated this class the first time, and also had a horrible teacher. With Lau, he kept the class entertained by using examples that made it easier for us to remember the points that he was lecturing about. I highly recommend him to anyone!
Lau is such an awesome teacher. his class is hard but honestly worth it! he makes class so interesting and he tells the best stories. I recommend this class to EVERYONE! great class!!
Very strict to his schedule. I was traveling to Europe and during that Time an Exam was to take place. He wouldn't work with me so I could take earlier. No if ands or buts about it. Very rare for a CSUF professor.
I HATE ACCOUNTING WITH A PASSION... but this guy was a great teacher! he was interesting and he knew his stuff. his examples were easy to understand. overall, i recommend him to everyone [especially the ones who need to retake it] he's probably the best acct professor, and probably one of the best professors period. fun times! eventho it was school
I CANT EVEN TELL YOU HOW GREAT HE IS. ITS FUNNY CUZ HES GOT KIND OF A NEW YORK/ASIAN ACCENT. HE IS SO FUNNY. THIS IS MY 3RD TIME TAKING 201A AND I FEEL REALLY CONFIDENT THAT IM GOING TO PASS IT THIS TIME I SAY TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN. HES GREAT
this guy RULEZ he's funny. he just seems like one of the students. highly recommended
He's awesome.....he keeps you interested the while time regardless of the fact that the subject is dull....and he's so funny....he keep you laughing the whole time!!!
Great teacher. Accounting principles are very easy to understand thanks to his interesting stories that we can all relate too. He loves his job and that makes all the difference in the classroom. Hard topic, but the homework, though tedious, is a great reinforcer. No one should fail if they attend class and pay attention.
This dude is awesome and hilarious. He loooves teaching and it reflects his awesome ability to teach. He makes a difficult subject very easy to understand. Anyone can pass if you actually do the homework and pay attention in class! Pass the class now with Lau!
Dude...Lau is the man. This guy is one of my favorite teachers at CSUF. Its worth taking the class just for his crazy stories. Hes way kick back on the homework and his tests really arent that hard as long as you know the material...take him for sure
Lau is one of the best teachers I have ever had at CSUF. He is so fun and awesome. He really turns the difficult subject of accounting into a manageable class. Totally recommend him to anyone!!!
He's an awesome, down-to-earth professor that really wants to teach his students about more than just text book stuff, the real world stuff which is great! He's one of my favorites at CSUF. However, this class is hard. Reading the book and doing the homework does not guarantee you'll pass.
on the first day he acts all hardcore to scare students away, the next day he jokes around n tells everyone he was frontin. the class was hard. gives weekly 10pt mult. choice quizez. i didn't like his examples. cool guy, but i didn't pass cus i needed one more percent to pass. n wouldn't give it to me
Lau is an awesome professor. The material is hard, but if you ask questions and DO THE HOMEWORK, than it's easier to understand. Show up for class and you'll pick up more of it. He has crazy stories that are hilarious. I struggled to get a C, but atleast I passes, whic h is more i can say for other professors. Take him for sure!!
Professor Lau is AWESOME! His lecture is so entertaining and he makes the subjects easy too understand by giving learning tips, such as Debit is something u get and Credit is something you give out. He gives quizes every week and he drops the lowest score. btw, he looks cute too. Register for his class!
okay so this class is REALLY hard, seriously. but prof. lau makes it some what easier. dont expect to get a C if you just go to class and take notes. prof. lau is a koo teacher and his lecture are interesting. i had his class at @ 7am and i didnt fall asleep once. i would recommend taking him, but you still got to do some work.
Highly recommend Prof. Lau for Acct, a very helpful prof. Weekly quizzes = pretty easy. Exams are somewhat okay, 40 multiple choice ?'s and then like 3 or 4 written problems. He makes the class fun but there are times when he gets a little side tracked and talks about random stuff, but sometimes its good when the acct stuff gets boring. GREAT prof
Lau is a kewl prof. his class is fun n all but it is difficult he will not curve or give xtra credit which does suk but its all so u can learn and try to pass his class awesome guy but hard to pass did i mention hes really cute.. that made me keep going to class
Very tough class. I hate Accounting and if you do too I'd recommend not taking it at CSUF, the department sucks. But Lau is a cool guy, take him if you are willing to put in long hours of studying and homework. Homework is due for each chapter and takes several hours per chapter.
Excellent lecturer, easily one of the better professors here. Class is tough, even the second time around. Stay on top of homework instead of waiting before midterms to do them as they are the best prep for your quizzes, I can't stress this enough, you want every point you can get. Students will pass, sponges won't.
He is such a great professor! He makes accounting way more interesting than i could ever imagine. He's really cool and young, and also very intelligent yet still down to earth. His class is pretty tough. I'm an A student and I'm lucky i passed. No extra credit or curving. He sometimes gets off topic and becomes a comedian.Take him. You'll learn a ton!
He explains accounting very clearly, but lectures will not help if you want to pass quizes. Best advice? Stay on top of the work load, do the homework...DON'T COPY IT! You must understand accounting in his class, no getting off easy! It was my first time taking accounting and I was able to pass so it's not impossible.
Great teacher and knows his stuff. BUY the STUDYGUIDE it is key for accounting. Read and DO the homework it really helps! Department final is killer.
He has a lot of good ratings for teaching Acct 201A but this guy, summer school, and Acct 201B do not mix. He does not know how to teach a summer class or how to teach Acct 201B. His tests are super hard and there is no study guide to follow. I think I’ve learned more about his personal life and New York than anything about Acct 201B.
Great teacher but a hard class! Does a great job of using real world examples and also some great stories! He is very real with his students and tries to make them prepared for the tests and final.
VERY UNDERSTANDING, HAS QUIZES SOMETIMES TRICKY. SAYS DOES NOT CURVE BUT PROB. CURVES. KNOWS SOME WHAT THIS CLASS. TAUGHT FIRST TIME NOT BAD. FINAL WAS VERY FAIR, HAVE TO STUDY FOR IT. HAS +, - GRADING SYSTEM.
Wow, finally an accounting Prof. who can really teach!!!! Guys you will definately learn with him, acct is not an easy subject, especially at CSUF, but he makes sure everyone understands before he moves on. He has a good personality, he can talk and talk, I took him for the summer, it was tough..... but worth it. Oh, hw is very time consuming.
took financial acct. one of the better acct profs. class is semi-challenging, but if you do the hw, you'll be fine. lectures are kinda entertaining, which is means a lot when it comes to accounting. what really sucks though is the deparmental final-he doesn't make up his own final cuz he's not tenured. that final is reeeeaaaalllly hard.
He knows how to teach. One of the best professors at CSUF. This is my 3rd time taking this class, and I finally understand accounting. He is an asset to your degree. Take Lau if your like me and just need accounting to meet your required courses. Lau is hilarious. His lectures keep you awake in class and you actually learn the material.
Lau is nice and funny & his lectures are clear but his quizes and tests come from a "test bank" and are nothing like his lectures and homework from the book. The quizes and tests are much much harder and require real studying. If your not good at accounting he might not be the teacher for you.
Awsome teacher! Great at explaining the content of the class. quizes and exams difficult. Definatel need to study. He's also totally hot!!
I never say anything bad about professors. But this guy is a total tool. He purposely gives quizes on days that the majority of the students don't show up. He only does this because he's an opportunist. Since he has the ability to do whatever he wants, he goes for it, provoking his students in an indirect manner. I have no desire to show up.
Unlike the majority, I had a bad experience with this professor. From day one he made it clear he didn't care about his students. I struggled throughout the semester and he wasn't willing to help me outside of class. Around half of the class failed and weren't satisfied with his teachings. Don't believe the hype, be your own judge...
His exams are REALLY TOUGH! His quizzes are based on lectures. Don't miss class, or else you will miss valuable information and a quiz. He has a great sense of humor. Although his class is hard, he tries to base the material on real life situations so it's a little easier to understand. If you're a slacker, don't take him. Good students will pass.
OMG this is the WORST TEACHER i ever had. This guy PRactically wants to Fail as many ppl possible. First of all he has POP quizzes and chooses days where the least amount of ppl show up. Lau kids alot and makes jokes but when it comes down to teaching hes a total D***. I DONT RECOMMEND HIM TO ACCT MAJORS. ALSO, his tests are in hard & confusin
First off, the students who are complaining about Lau just failed his test and realized they can't pass. Secondly, Lau is very helpful and does his best to make concepts clear and easy. His tests are very difficult, but if you study and do his homework (free 5% of ur grade) you will pass the exams. He gives quizes randomly, but are predictable.
Lau belongs in the theatre department because all he does is ACT. He ACTS like he knows how to teach, he ACTS like he knows how to make money, and he ACTS like he’s cool. His class is a bunch of rhetoric about New York. He’s in his thirties claiming to be a REAL "moneymaker", but he’s ranting at CSUF. Hands down, he gets the thumbs down.
he is so cute and he keep class interesting with his talks.. quizes help you toward your midterm and you should take him
His class is hard. the homework he gives helps in the quizes. However, he gives out the hardest quizzes he can. You have to do all the homework and attend and pay attention to all his lectures or else you are going to be lost. He is a nice teacher but his class is going to require a lot of hard work and studying if you want to pass.
This guy is the worst Acct Professor ever. He acts as if he is your friend, tells a bunch of dumb stories in class instead of teaching Acct. Then gives you the hardest quizzes and tests, and expects you to do well on them. He is a nice guy but him being nice is not going to help you pass the class.
Accounting is not an easy class. It is not the teachers fault that some students don't make an effort outside of class. Lau is a great teacher and explains the material way better than the book. Pay attention to what he says and apply it to the homework, then study the powerpoints before tests and quizes and you will be fine.
THIS GUY SUCKS!
Your average level AP class. Take him since he knows how to teach. Tests are difficult, but not impossible. Quizzes, Presentations etc. are major factors in your grade. I recommend you go to his class and read the book-> you'll pass for sure!
Lau's lectures are more enjoyable than most professors and very helpful to quizzes. His pop quizzes are pretty easy, but his exams are challenging. The final is department exam so is very difficult. Overall, if you are willing to put in the time and effort, you will do well in his class. People actually recieved As on his exams!
This is a hard class..it's the subject that's hard not the teacher! U better read the text book and do ur hw..it helps alot on the exams. I'm happy that I passed..first time taking acct201A. Department final is easier than his exam
DONT take this guy!! He mainly complains about everthing in his life, its entertaining but it doesnt prepare you for an exam. You have to teach yourself everything on your own time. Total class average was 1.1 GPA. He just has this bitter attitude towards people & life, it gets annoying fast!
This guy is a joke I agree with the comment below mine. It seems that all the accounting dorks worship this guy. If you are like me and the rest of the world and hate accounting take it somewhere else because CSUF accounting department sucks. Trust me you will not pass.
hes a really great lecturer.he tries to make it as easy as possible to understand the concepts.but u do have to read the book, study his ppt,& do hw to get a good grade. he answers ur questions and uses great examples. and he is soo hott!!
i honestly think hes a great professor! i dun see why so many people complain. he uses great examples and tries his best to help.take good notes! no need to print out all those powerpoints cuz his exams r based on what he lectures about.read the book, do ur homework and review ur notes.go to class everyday! great teacher! and pleasant to watch hehe
lau is a funny guy. Exams are not easy but not hard. He made us easy to understand the material. He likes to talk about himself. If you want to pass the class i think you should take him.
I THOUGHT this guy would suck cuz i read the comments on here but NO.. HE IS AN AWESOME PROFESSOR!! He Is one of the best lecturers Ive had.. he makes things really easy to understand and he tells interesting stories that make u look at things in a great new perspective! the class is hard 2 pass.. im not gonna lie but its THE CLASS... NOT HIM!
Thanks to him, I have to take Accounting again in the Fall. I've only missed 2 classes and that pretty much messed me up. No idea where he gets his questions from because I freaking studied the book, his power points, and even the Accting textbook site and that didn't help.
lau was the worst teacher i have ever had. it's nearly impossible to take notes, he doesn't follow his own, he covers only what he thinks we'll use in the real world which i guess is good but he doesn't cover what is on the exam. because of him i'm probably not going to be able to transfer next semester to a school that actually has my major
Horrible teacher. Does not follow his own notes or test you on them. He tells you to study one thing, but the exam is on something totally different. Doesn't take attendance, but unless you already know everything about accounting, he is useless
He may seem cool because he is young, but when it comes down to taking his tests and quizzes they are completely different from his lecture. He makes accounting seem entertaining but he is ruthless when giving tests and grading. Beware of this guy and take someone else if you want to pass acct.
This was my 2nd time taking this class & he was WAY better than my first instructor. You get what you put into it. If you don't go to class & don't do homework, expect a poor grade. You do your h/w & go to class, you can expect an ok or good grade. STUDY HARD for the final. I got Bs & As on quizzes & high C/low B on tests and I got a 68 on final.
All the people who say he is the worst teacher are just lazy. I didn't even buy the book and I got an A. If you show up, pay attention, and do the homework, you're in good shape. Great teacher! People who are lazy wont do good at all in this class.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He fronts like he'll grade hard but curves the entire class grade at the end. You just need to show up & pay attention. If you do that, you'll be fine. There's unannounced quzzies. Get the book if you don't naturally understand ACCT. He's a GREAT teacher though, gives great examples.
This was my 3rd time taking this class and honestly he was way better than my other instructors. I did better on the exams.
good professor, but an extreemly hard class, he does not care about you in this class his famous quote in class is "it is what it is" u will need a study partner for this class, he has a final class project as well, teaches good but can really care less about you or your grade, does not offer help
Tough class, but a good teacher. Hes a young teacher and relates well to students. Doesnt expect anything unrealistic from you. He keeps the class entertaining.
I hate acct! Its not good that pop quizzes are worth 20% of your grade, as much as one of your test. You just get lucky that you study the right info in the book and it shows up on the test. First timers and FRESHMEN - do what I did and take this class at a COMMUNITY COLLEGE!!! so much easier (I took mine online) and it transfers over easily!
By far the BEST accounting teacher this school has. He doesn't have unrealistic expectations, its a hard subject, and he knows it. He doesnt want to hear complaining, he teaches you that life is tough and not fair. If you want to pass accounting and it isnt your major, take Lau.
very difficult class but hes def one of the best teachers. teaches you what you actually need to know. study your notes for the quizes. if you do bad it messes up your grade. gives out the answers to the homework so its easy points. class is always interesting. i would recommend. you dont need the book
What it boils down to is...Does Lau satisfy the criteria of being a good professor? NO. He doesn't explain the concepts and fundamentals of accounting. Nor is he willing to help you outside of class. BUT, like any class, if you are willing to teach yourself and put in major work, you might pass…just be prepared to have accounting run ur li
He tries to give real world examples of the concepts that he's teaching because he still works in the real tax world. Has disdain for the book, but I do too. Pop quizzes, so you have to show up. New Jersey accent a little thick sometimes, but otherwise clear and well thought out.
if you must take accounting then take this guy. He's very helpful and lectures are interesting. Hes funny too so that helps. test are very easy and he give a weekly quiz to make sure your understanding the subject. its a pratical class and accounting is a hard subject but he's pretty good at dumbing it down.
Reallyy Hardd...I repeat unbelievably hard... If you are ready for the first F or D in your life take this class. The Tests are HARD. The quizzes are hard as well and he only give you about 10 minutes on on a 10 question quiz. He is really unfair and will not let you retake any miss quizzes that you miss. Although his lectures are interesting.
The best teacher I have ever had. He is the best and the clearest in lecturing. Attend all classes. The homework is departmental so there is no way around it. The final is also departmental but he prepares you well. THE BEST! Great lectures. Doesn't waste your time.
if you are looking for a good accounting grade go take it at a community college. if you want to learn something and get a decent grade lau is probably the best teacher you will get here. he explains the lessons VERY well tho the tests are pretty difficult if you follow along in the book the class shouldnt be all that difficult for a good student.
Fantastic teacher with a NY accent, probably from Brooklyn. Tests are straight forward and simple if you studied. Pop Quizzes are gay, especially if your taking his class @ 7:00am. One minute late and your screwed. Otherwise, his teaching is comprehendible accompanied by real life scenarios and humor which makes his lectures so much more interesting
Good teacher, seems to favor girls, but how would I know? Usually helpful, explains with good examples, tests and quizes hard but not unexpectly. Jersey accent is weird for cali, but understandible. covers the needed materials well, doesn't make it too deep. realistic and blunt - don't look for mercy, you won't get any, 'specialy if you're a dood.
Fantasitc teacher. Knows his stuff and is willing to help any student. Go to his office hours if you are struggling.. he will help you out until you understand the material. Need to go to all classes, but he doesnt waste your time. every class has some purpose. Best teacher i have had at CSUF.
Greatest accounting teacher at CSUF. Worthwhile examples and great teaching style. Must take if you wish to pass accounting and actually learn.
I attended every class meeting, completed every homework assignments, studied every test. But I have to retake the class again and I can not understand where my final grade came from!!! Overall, I like this professor, his lectures are no comments.
This guy is nice but he is hard. His tests are hard and it becomes hard to pass since there are only 2 exams that determine your grade along with a ridiculous department final. AVOID if possible
out of all the accounting teachers at CSUF, LAU is the best at understanding the students and helping the students to understand. I am currently REPEATING 201B so i've had 3 diff acct teachers and Lau is the best
OMG he is so HOT!!!! He has a Boston accent and he is so good looking! His class is hard but if you study, do homework, and don't slack off then you will be fine! He is willing to help you during his office hours too. Some people expect to pass for doing nothing so don't listen to their comments! Great professor!
Accounting is a difficult class, but Lau makes it more difficult and unpleasant. As a student, I had an expectation of learning and gaining knowledge. Lau provided none of these. Instead, I was stuck with an arrogant professor who encouraged his students to drop the class if they were struggling. I can’t believe students like this farce.
Amazing professor. He uses examples that you can relate to. Accounting isn't easy, but if you study, you will do well. Funny and a very fair professor. If you can't handle him, the communications building probably has some room for you.
The Most AMAZING teacher at CSUF! Lau turns a boring topic into a fun and exciting experience. By far no other teacher can make a 7am class worth attending. If you do not appreciate his teaching you are just lazy! Plain and simple the best class Ive had there. Lau actually CARES!
Horrible. From the lectures to the notes. Lau can't teach. If he's such a good professor, then why is there a 60% fail rate? You can claim that the students who fail are lazy, but the numbers don't lie!
Great Professor. Accounting is tough regardless, but he makes it easier to understand and somewhat interesting. Yeah he is a tough teacher but thats cause he doesnt treat you like a baby. Must attend class, pay attention to h.w., and do good on the pop quizzes (which are hard). This guy and Tarantino are the only decent accounting teachers here.
Professor Lau is the BEST ACCT professor @ CSUF. Young, Energetic, funny, and knowledgeable, he REALLY cares for those who want to do well. ACCT is a hard subject, and the fail rate is 60% because most people are idiots. Take him, you WILL NOT regret it.
He is a cool teacher, but his test are extremely HARD! Do the homework because it does help you with the quizzes, but if you want to pass, I suggest you go to his office hours so he knows who you are, he only curves for people who make an effort. Final was very difficult and the class avg. was a 55%.
the pop quizzes always threw me off...other then that hes a good teacher but his tests are hard
These people that say he is a great professor are crazy! This guy has a terrible teaching method. Only has 2 exams that cover half the book each which is impossible! He fools you by making you think he is your pal and is all funny and nice. My advice is to take TARANTINO I got an A in her class and a D in Laus class....hmmmmm...I wonder why?...He i
Kinda Hard. I studied hard and didnt pass. He is really funny and nice but hard. A quiz every week
Attendence is key. Pop quiz weekly. REALLY good teacher, explains it well. I got a D+ on the 1st test, B on the 2nd, did my homework, scored 50% on quizes, ended up with a B. It's difficult, but he's one of the BEST teachers I've had in 2 years. Explains concepts really well. Accounting is hard, but with him it's easier. Take him.
One of the best teachers I've had. He is always willing to help his students during class and office hours. He is always open for questions and tries to use different examples so people understand the situations. Uses great examples that are really helpful when taking the tests. Makes class fun and entertaining.
best professor i ahve ever had. really cool guy to talk to and was clear on lectures. has great examples that deal with real events. dont miss class, weekly quizzes and small budgeting report. be interactive and class and it makes it that much better!
I had him for Acct 201A and luckily for Acct 201B. He is the best teacher i've had at CSUF. I got a B in acct 201A and an A in 201B. He does do pop quizes but if you do the home work and pay attention to his examples in class, you are set.
Okay, I got cut off, but continuing on my comment below..his tests are pretty straight forward if you review the notes, his expamples and go to his office hours if you have questions, you will do well on the exams. I got a 93 on the first exam and a 89 on the second exam. just go to class. he uses examples that you will remember for the tests.
Dont let these reviews fool you. Worst teacher ever Ive ever had. Thank god I passed. He is not helpful in his office hours. He purposely gives out quizzes on the days most people are absent. His homework is a joke. Only 5% of your grade yet it doesnt help ur grate a bit, and his tests are extremely hard. If ur about to take him I pray for you.
Do not pay attention to the comment below, they probably tried to skip class and do assignment last minute, which is stupid in accounting. I had him twice on purpose because he is so clear and states exactly what he expects from you. He explains everything, and if you have a question he will clarify even more. Best prof. so far.
This teacher sucks! i dont know why he has such high ratings. the people giving him happy faces are probably accounting dorks. i tried so hard but couldnt pass. he makes you feel so stupid for asking questions in class. he doesnt help in office hours. took the same exact class with Tarontino and got an A. Hmmmmm why am I not surprised?
Made me survive, but one other name to consider: Tarantino
Doesn't check attendance per se, but has an unannounced quiz every couple of chapters. You fail if you're not present. He's a nice guy and is usually there during office hours. Subject is hard but easier than 201A. Tedious homework collected but you can just copy it off of blackboard. Uses powerpoint. I got a C.
I didn't enjoy his class. He's very tricky on his quizzes and tests. He wasn't very helpful when I went to his office hours. Take Burnstein! He's much better.
stay far away. he comes across as a bit brazen and arrogant. there would be moments in his class where i would not understand any of his examples or what he was talking about in relation to accting. he has this attitude of "cmon' dontcha' get it? what's wrong with ya'"?
He is a nice and funny teacher. He tries his best to make the concepts understandable. It was a tough class but it prepared me for the final which is departmental and hard. You have to study constantly for the weekly pop quizzes. The tests can be difficult so make sure to do the homework problems knowingly and you'll do fine.
I taught myself everything. He did nothing for me. He really shouldn't be a teacher. He does not teach, presents horrible tricky test on a subject matter that he doesn't teach, and penalizes you for almost everything. He's annoying and arrogant (although has no reason to be). I've only had to retake one class my whole college career...
He is great knows the material and gives examples that relate to the real world his test are hard but the problem solving section really helps since he kinda tells you what the probs
