Caring, honest, and its clear she loves teaching women and gender studies. I learned alot of new things and thought outside the box.
Very kind and a good first time prof, really enjoyed learning this topic. If you're a feminist, it's the good "W" to take.
Amazing woman! She is the reason I am majoring in gender studies.
Best professor ive ever had, take this class.
The sweetest teacher. She is very caring for her students, almost too caring. I really like her as a professor. Although her lectures are very dragged on but you don't even need to attend them
This teacher is a first time prof, she gives very fair tests, good notes and posts all slides on website well before class so you can review. Not only that she responds to students issues and problems. I would take a course with her anytime.
A wonderful professor overall. She genuinely cares about her students, and is great at teaching. My one complaint is that her grammar and spelling is horrendous on her powerpoint notes, but that isn't all that important since most test questions are based on readings and class discussions.
She's really nice and caring but to the point she let our class practically run the course. All exams were open book, one was take home, easy A, never went to class just studied the online slides and read the textbook.
She is an amazing prof, easy class to take and very interesting. I would take any other course with her.
Very encouraging, best proff I have taken a course with throughout my four year University.
She is an amazing prof, her lectures are very short and interesting. I would take her class again, very inspirational, if you need a W course, take it with her, an easy A.
This class was fascinating and Punam had so much knowledge about the subject!
Punam is amazing! She really cares about her students and tries to help everyone out when every she can. She had usually responded to my emails within 24 hours. Punam also loves discussionsgroup work so get ready for that! The discussions are are always great, she makes sure everyone's point of views are respected. She is one of the best profs :)
Amazing prof. She's such a sweet, genuine woman and truly cares about her students. I never felt the lectures dragged on because the material was so interesting to me. You can tell she's very passionate about what she teaches. She wants to make our lives as students easier because she understands us (as she still is one herself). LOVE HER
I am taking 1600 with punam and she is amazing. Her lectures is so passionate about indigenous women's health in manitoba. She does a lot of reading on that which really opened my Eyes but be prepared to read.
She really enjoys group discussions and respects everyone's opinions. I would take any class with her again because she is SOOO nice and helpful.
Punam is amazing! She is very fair with grading. She shows a lot of videos in class that reflect on the reading. Very caring of her students. Always willing to help. Encourages group participation. She is very passionate about Native Women studies. Reading, work load was very achievable. Always entertained during class.
She is an amazing prof and a beautiful person!
She is the best proff that I have ever had! she is so sweet and kind. Always try to help and really easy marker for w credit! Do yourself a favor and take her class A guaranteed!!!
This class was awesome because it helped me to learn how to cite papers. If you put in the work and participate you should do good.
This is an awesome W to take with this prof because it helped me learn to write better and call myself a feminist!! Punam changed my life!
A good class to take no matter the year you're in; a definite GPA booster. Punam is very friendly, and she wants to help everyone. You don't have to work very hard to get a good grade, but put in a decent amount of effort and you're definitely going to get an A
Punam is awesome. She meet with me all the time to review my papers and always have me feedback.
confusing at times, requires a lot of work for a good grade.
assignments are too long
So far this class has really opened my eyes to the issues facing women all over Manitoba. the course assignments are clear and easy to understand if you come to class. Also the teacher gives lots of extra office hours when assignments are due to help. she really wants you to think critically about feminism, like what it mean to you? she's awesome
Amazing professor so far. Love her so much. Super inspirational and I never feel the desire to ditch class. 2 things up
Punam is kind, knows a lot and cares a lot about feminism and her passion shows in her teaching. She is very clear about grading and gives awesome feedback. You should go see her during office hours cause she always makes extra.
She marked really fair on the midterm!
Punam is very kind and understanding. she is deeply passionate about metis women's health. It was a really eye-opening class and I would recommend any class with her.
Truly amazing professor. I'm definitely taking more of her classes in the future! So inspirational and I can't imagine myself not taking anymore women and gender studies classes. Even if it's not with her. Recommend her 100%. Take her class if you can. Passionate and caring and my favourite professor
awesome professor, learned so much about addictions and its not over yet.
this class so far we have read lots of good novel like Harry Potter and brown girl in the ring. We also listened to political talk show. I never would have read most of these books but I love it and the professor is amazing.
This is the best class I've ever taken so far in university. Punam makes extra office hours for students and reviews your assignments. I would take any class with her ever.
Such a sweetheart. Respects everybody and has the biggest heart. As long as you keep up with your readings and assignments, her classes aren't hard. The classroom vibe is a good one too. Very pedagogic and friendly and free. I recommend her women and gender courses to everyone!
Really passionate about what she's teaching, and really cares about each and every one of her students. Easy to do well if you participate and do all of the assignments.
I learned so much with Punam!! It was a great intro class and fun. I would take any other class with her about feminism.
Punam is honestly the best prof I've ever had. She makes all her exams open book for FMLY 1010. She also has very interesting lectures but they are not mandatory. She's very approachable and is highly educated. Best prof I've ever had in the past 3 years I've been at the u of m hands down.
Punam is so inspirational, she has s much knowledge about women issues and feminism. Her lectures are always very interesting. Also everything is take home, even the final essay so you can't go wrong with that. She is also very approachable and is a very nice person. Highly recommend her.
Punam is an excellent professor and has knowledge of feminism and feminist history. I loved her class and highly recommend it!..
Punam is such a sweet and caring prof! She really knows her stuff when it comes to women and gender's studies and the class is really fun. The papers are also marked fairly and it's an easy A if you try! Some classes aren't even mandatory and she's okay if we miss class sometimes because we're busy or have other problems. A great class to take!
Classes are different from any course I have taken (eg. had amazing guest speakers talk about their life, went outside to do a cultural ritual) If you like structured classes this may not be for you. She doesn't completely follow the course outline, she goes with the flow. She's very sweet, funny, understanding, and will do her best to help you.
She is such a wonderful role model I love all her classes. Makes us think critically and accepts all points of view.
I learned so much in this class and I loved the Prof Punam! She is so kind and smart. I would take anything with her!!
I enjoyed this class. I was surprised because I was not a feminist but now I am! Punam is awesome. She really cares her students and clearly loves teaching this course! I would highly recommend it and just go to class and do the work cause it's really straightforward if you try.
great!
loved this class! i started off thinking that this was gonna be just another hardcore feminist" class and wasn't a true feminist because i was taught that wrong meaning! she is a very sweet and caring prof who takes time to get to know her students! i would take this class again in a heart beat! shes very laid back and super chill!
Punam open my eyes to a lot about feminism. She made extra office hours and gives good feedback. She is down to earth and teaches you how to write better. I would recommend this course
Very passionate about what she teaches. If you show up and care to learn and be open you will do good.
This professor is the epitome of the professor that has no regard for student's success. She gives no justification for the marks she gives and will not because as students she knows we have no power to challenge her. It is a clear power grab as she feels the need to exert her power as compensation for something in the past.
Professor is clear about expectations of the course. Don't expect it to be an easy A. Do the work required and you will be successful.
mehta is a hard grader, and gives no explanation when she takes off marks. she is a fantastic teacher who is always open to emails and after class meetings. her class has relatable content, but her marking is all over the place. not an easy A.
Punam is an amazing prof. She gave helpful feedback on assignments and genuinely wants the best for her students. No writing course is an easy A, but if you focus on your academic writing skills & review the rubrics an A is attainable. She genuinely wants to get to know her students which is admirable for large class sizes. Happy I learned from her
She intentionally lowered the class average this year and refused to give anyone good marks (66% average). Do not take her if looking for an English written!!!
Dr. Mehta is my favourite Professor I have had! You will learn so much in her class. You have to work hard but she gives good feedback. She does a great job at teaching the writing skills and the course content. Shes a wonderful professor!
She always mark lower Her class is not useful because she always let us watch documentary if she is not let us watch documentary she will leave early Her also have a lots of work and requirements and her give feedback for most students are same so she is not look everyone paper carefully Anyway she is the worst professor I never met.
Punam is the best professor Ive ever had. There is lots of work and if you dont put in the effort and improve your writing it will be hard. She is brilliant and has so much to share! Take her class!
Punam is a fantastic professor! She does a great job teaching course concepts and is so smart. She is the best professor at U of M!
Prof had no idea what she was doing in class and did not know how to get across the material. Did not make it clear what the criteria was or what would be on the exam.
I took 1600 with Ms. Punam and she was great, flexible but it is not an easy A. You have to write three papers and have an exam. If you work hard you will do well and learn alot about feminism and gender.
If you show up and do the work the prof will take the time to help you. It is lots of reading but no necessarily easy. Be prepared to work and learn. It is also a fun course.
This class has changed my life...I want to major in the program! We are reading a lot and it is hard to get an A but you also have to know how to write better than high school
Wonderful course! A lot of writing and attendance is important
Punam overall is a very caring prof and looks towards the well-being of her students. However, she gives very minimal feedback when it comes to papers, which are supposed to help us improve our writing. She also does not do a good job at explain criteria to do the papers which were a good % of our grade.
Punam is an amazing professor. She truly cares about her students success not just in the class but your future life. She is one in a million and if you work hard on all the papers there is no reason you won't do well and become a better writer.
Prof gives good feedback on papers and its important to attend class.
Prof is a hard marker on writing but is very helpful with feedback. Its important to attend all classes and read the course textbook as it makes it easier. Prof is very kind and knowledgeable.
Approachable and practical class. Material was very important to my learning. Writing papers was a challenge and getting help from tutors and teacher helpful.
This was an excellent class and I would recommend it to anyone
Course is clearly explained and tests are straight forward and you have to put in effort to improve your writing.
We explored global reproductive justice including maternal health for indigenous mothers. The research proposal was challenging but prof helped students and was flexible in topics. Overall this course changed my life and made me want to go to grad school.
Punam is a great prof. She is not the best to corrispond over email, so make the time to use her office hours. She has no problem helping you understand the material or grading criteria but she does mark pretty hard. Tests are on lecture notes so you NEED to attend or get a friend to share notes. Its a W course, so your papers need to be perfect
Very good course. I took it thinking it was easy but I worked hard to get an A. Professor was awesome
So far in this course there are lots to learn. I really like the teacher because they make everything clear if you read the handouts. She said it was not an easy class and you will have to learn to write.
Although she is extremely king and caring, she is all over the place and is a very unorganized professor. Her class was very interesting, but I found that I learned mostly from the readings she assigned. She said that attendance wasn't mandatory. Punam is very smart and passionate, but I wish she would create clear day-to-day outlines for class.
This professor is amazing and if you follow the handouts and attend all her classes you wil easily get an A. She is very smart and kind. The best prof ever!!
punam is a wonderful person and spent alot of time with going over paper and exam. It was that they were smart and caring.
super easy class to get a good grade in. you have to write only one essay even though it is able to fulfill the english written requirement. feminist topics. punam is extremely disorganized and is unclear about instructions but is always available via email and office hours. overall good class
Punam is wonderful. Clearly organized and dedicated to teaching gender studies. Thank you.
Professor taught a range of topics in feminism which I didnt know. I was able to write a final paper on a topic I wanted and now can express myself in writing. The best course I took in university and professor is kind and clear to understand as long as you attend cladd
Punam is a great prof won't let you forget that she cares and understands what we're going through, well educated and is happy to help whenever she can. very honest as long as you participate in class and hand in your work its an easy A she makes sure to give a lot of easy assignments out and is really good with extensions or deferrals.
I truly love Punam as a professor. She has so much passion for the course and she makes it so enjoyable. Only issue is that she marks very hard on the paper, however, only 40% of the class is based on essay writing so it's not the BIGGEST issue.
Punam is a good professor. Her notes are posted, and tests are majority based on notes. But she is not good at responding via emails, printing copies for class, keeping up with grading. Try to find time to meet with her if you need help on essays. If you study her notes and what she says will be on exams, you should get a good grade.
Quite the controversial professor. She has great lectures and provides you all the information you need for the midterm and final. However her paper grading scheme is horrible and marks super questionably. If you have to take a W course, take this because there is only a paper proposal (10%) and a final paper(20%). The rest are exams and easy stuff
She teaches WOMN1600 beautifully. Her lectures are very interesting, and she makes it clear what you need to know for testing. Unfortunately, she is very slow at marking. Do not expect to get grades back until the semester is over.
Overall a good prof. A bit unorganized at times but has knowledge about what she teaches. Genuinely cares for her students and is very approachable. Lot of writing assignments so be sure to keep up with them. Solid A or A+ if you follow her guidelines.
Grading was unclear, didn't have a clue what my mark would be because most assignments weren't given final grades, and some I never got back. When lectures switched to online only one class was recorded, never finished the slides. Very disorganized, had to attend lectures because of random assignments, which once again were never given back to us
Punam is the best professor Ive ever had! She is smart and organized. I would take any class with her again
If you have the opportunity to have her as your professor, TAKE IT. She is incredible. One of the most brilliant women I've ever met!
This is a easy class however the prof is out of it. She doesnt like being put on the spot as she says when people ask questions. Shes reads straight from text book. She doesnt know what she wants, constantly contradicts herself, gives wrong information and confuses the class. If need to take this class just read the text book alone.
This professor wants you to learn from your mistakes and is accessible and fair to all students. I would take any class with them.
Punams assignments are really hard to understand and extremely unclear. If you email her she will take days to respond and respond with little detail if she responds at all. She is terribly unorganized and is constantly changing her mind on what she wants. She moved the date of my midterm to 3 different days in 10 minutes.
Professor is always helping and available to me and always accommodating. Working online is hard enough and the course material was posted. The professor is awesome and has so much important information that they share beautifully. Anyone who complains is just picking on them as they are the nicest professor who makes you work for an A. I learned s
Honestly, this is my favourite class. I want to major in the program because of Punam!! Thank you for teaching so awesomely. I learned so much from you and its hard on the internet teaching but you made it easier.
Class was great
Punam is a terrible professor, I am warning you to not take ANY class with her. Terrible marker, doesn't give any feedback and reads directly off the textbook in class. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS
This class was awesome, you have to work hard to get a good grade, it is not an easy a.
Do not take her course if you want to be under stress 100% of the time. Clear instructions are not given for any assignment. There is no feedback when you get your marks back. You are only given a letter grade and no justifying reason why you got that grade. She tell's the class she wants perfection for every assignment but doesn't say how.
This was an amazing class, the book we read and the discussions were so interesting. I had to work hard on writing as the professor is very strict. If you are willing to work and not complain the prof does a great job and always answered my emails.
This was an amazing class!you need to be ready to work hard. The writing part was hard because you have to read and write papers and she expects you to use a critical voice and talk about what issues are affecting women. it took me a lot of time and online learning is because covid and it won't be like this forever.
amazing course and prof!! I would take anything with the,
I worked my butt off to get an A+ and the prof helped me along the way. They were kind and always there to help, responded to emails right away. All these people complaining, just didn't follow the instructions and ask questions. That is the secret to success and like yeah that is huge part
Punam is a horrible professor. Cancelled class for over half the term and posted lectures days after they were meant to go up. Reads off the textbook and that's it. Complained that lectures were "too much stress" for her so she would just not do them. Does not give feedback at all. Assignments are unclear and she doesn't even know what she wants.
For an online class this was awesome but a lot of writing and very difficult to keep up if you fall behind. The professor was amazing if you email them and keep up with the readings.
Do not take this class with Punam. She is very unorganized and very unclear. She cancelled nearly every class in the last 5 weeks. She would post lectures that were just her reading the textbook. She complains a lot, always goes back on her word and her grading makes no sense. She is unwilling to compromise about anything. Super unprofessional.
Yeah she is tough and put classes prerecorded online after the break but honestly, I thought she was brilliant but just couldn't deal with all the zoom lectures every day. because of the pandemic, none of it was easy.
Hard term for everyone!! I loved Punam!! She always responded to emails and was helpful but wanted us to write papers like a professor!!!! No mistakes or you lose marks. It was the hardest class but she is the nicest professor.
This class was by far the worst class I have ever attended. Our midterm marks will not be handed back to us until AFTER we submit our final. We are submitting our final marks with only 15% of our course load graded. If you want to pay good money to sit and watch someone read off a textbook then take this class. This class was not insightful.
if I could rate this professor a 0/5 I would. Marking is unclear. You have to ask and email for feedback on your assignments in a FIRST YEAR WRITING COURSE. Everyone is evaluated differently and she stopped showing up to classes mid semester. If you are thinking about taking this as your written course I would suggest taking a better course.
This class was great. I don't know what other people are talking about! Maybe they didn't put in the work required. It was a lot of work and writing but I guess they didn't do the work and want to blame somebody.
If you do not do the insane amount of work you will fail! This professor teaches ever article and had memorized the textbook. It was amazing to listen to them in class and you just have to email them directly and they give you all the help. I would take anything with professor Punam!! Thank you:)
Yeah she answers emails but do not expect answers to any questions you have. She is incredibly unclear. Haven't gotten back 2 major papers and a midterm as we are writing the final. For a first year writing course she gives no feedback so good luck. I don't recommend this prof for this class.
As a first year student I would not recommend this class to anyone. I am understanding of the circumstances of new online learning, but she was very unavailable. She stopped teaching the last month and did not grade 2 major assignments and a midterm before the due date of my final exam. She doesn't give clear instructions or answer emails in time.
the crazy term with online teaching and professor did as best they could but clearly found the zoom lectures hard. break out rooms were the best and I learned loads!! I would take a class with the professor again
the best!! tkae this class and you won't regret
If I could give this professor 105% I would, they were the most understanding and helpful professor. If people did bad their fault and you know I worked hard and that is the only way to do well. Papers have to be perfect like she is so into grammar, it is annoying!!! I would take more classes with Punam
Never handed assignments back on time and was not clear AT ALL about what her expectations were of students for assignments.
I feel like 2020 really affected Dr. Mehta, but that it not a reason to poorly teach. I got a good grade, yes. BUT her assignment feedback was non-existent. The last quarter of the semester she stopped teaching. She started replying to emails in all caps... when she finally did. I have my final grade, but not my assignment grades...
she is the best and nicest, she did give my papers back but it took a long time. she is good professor and I would take more classes with her cause she is interesting and smart
She seems like a very good person and I think the outcome would have been different in if we were in person. She does not hand things back, and responds to emails very irregularly, just overall unorganized. I believe the people writing the highest ratings are some of the few who got assignments back and with feedback that is able to be worked with.
Im sure this class wouldve been much different/better IRL. When I got my papers back, there were grammar corrections for things that werent there in the 1st place and no explanation of how I got my grade. Im not angry at her as I know the switch to online is hard, just confused about her grading and upset about always having to clarify things
If you read her instructions for the assignments and listen to a bit of extra explanation in the lectures the class was fairly easy, perfect for a written requirement. However assignments were returned very late (or not at all) and she wasn't well organized. This was partially due to the pandemic but it would be nice to see some improvement here.
Since taking course at U of M, this course matches up to be the worst so far! There were no clear outlines for word counts on assignments and does not answer questions in emails. One class we had, she never started the class and later announced after class had been finished, that we did not have class that week!
The class was informative but Punam just read from the textbook during lectures. Very disorganized marking system on her part which lead to frustration for the students. Lots of marks came with out any clarification on the provided rubric or notes/comments. There were many times where she would take days to answer emails. Not the greatest prof
Extremely disappointing. Graded my test wrong and never fixed it even after reaching out a few times, and failed to answer my questions in emails and instead answered questions that I didn't ask. Also, never provided the clarification I and many others asked for at the end of term regarding our grades. Students' needs were never prioritized :/
Very nice professor. She seemed to care about her students and did her best to make class work over zoom. A reasonable grader when it comes to the papers, however it was sometimes difficult to get detailed feedback. Textbook along with an additional chapter book are required for assignments and exams.
Passionate about her profession and the topics taught in this class. However, the lectures were literally of her reading directly off the slides/textbook. Rubrics were vague, did not provide any detailed feedback if at all on assignments, and she does not respond to emails accordingly. Her responses are short, rude, and insignificant.
amazing professor! I enjoyed this class immensely. I learned a lot but you have to put in the work
Super disappointing Prof. The prof was passionate about some topics but the class was very disorganized. She just read off the sides and was impossible to get a hold of outside of class. When she did get back to you she was dismissive and rude. No detailed feedback on our 3 written assignments. Super negative experience.
amazing, you just do the work
For the most part, she is a great professor. During my degree, I taken 3 of her classes. I find that she grades hard but if you follow the directions, you will be fine. At times, I found that some of the classes were disorganized but many were also well organized. She is a very passionate person and I wish her the best.
Students needs are never prioritized, and she does not set students up for success in the class. Dr. Mehta is dismissive and rude when you ask questions, does not give detailed feedback on assignments and tests (which are always returned late), has a vague marking system and rubric , and simply reads from the textbook with no additional teaching.
This was probably one of the worst classes I have taken. I did not learn anything as there was no elaboration on sections she was reading from our textbook. Dr. Metha is also very difficult to reach but she is understanding of personal circumstances. When she graded our papers, I had no idea how to improve from there on out.
This professor focused on writing skills. If you do not have them, avoid them. I did learn alot and enjoyed the course and the professor.
Going in to class, I thought it was going to be hard because there was literally only three papers to do, no midterms or exams, just papers and writing essays is not really my strength. The hardest paper was probably when we had to right a 10-12 page paper about yoga. But Dr. Mehta is not a hard marker so everything went well.
I learned nothing from this class and she was all over the place with teaching it made for a stressful semester when she barley knew what was going on
She is nice, but very disorganized. No matter how hard you work on your paper, you'll probably just get a B as did 99% of people in the class did. It's an easy class, but I didn't learn much. She did not teach anything. All her lectures were just her reading textbook quotes word for word.
She is an awesome professor and made me love womens and gender studies. I would take anything with them
Half way through the semester she stopped posting lectures and instead would post documentaries from YouTube. She gave no real feedback on writing assignments and refused to breakdown my grade when I asked for more details. I feel as if I learned nothing. Although she was very understanding of personal problems, she seems unfit to be teaching.
She had asynchronous class for my remote learning section. Her videos were all about her reading what were on the slides, no further insights so you had to think on your own to know what you could learn from text books. She had 3 quizzes which she gave the answers before the test but she did not give thorough feedback for the 2 written assignments.
This was a compressed course, so our lectures were supposed to be about 2.5 hrs each class, but instead, the videos she posted were 30min. I feel as though I didn't learn anything at all. She seems lovely and is very understanding of how difficult it is to meet deadlines, but she is difficult to learn from because she provides no feedback at all.
Nice prof, but very poor conduction of the course. - Some received their marks on time, some had to go out of their way and ASK for it, which is unfair. Marks were emailed, not uploaded. Unorganized! - Little feedback is given (if you had the chance to even get them). - Difficult to understand expectations for assignments, even with the rubric.
Lectures were just her rereading points from the text. Did not get useful feedback, and most grades were received after the deadline for the next assignment (so it was too late to make any changes). I didn't feel like I really learned anything, and I wish I had taken a different course instead.
In the prerecorded lectures, she just read from the PowerPoint. I didn't learn anything in this course. Also, no clear grading criteria and she returned all our ( from the first week of the semester to end of the semester)papers two weeks to the final with unreasonable notes!
I learned an enormous amount in this class and I have taken many classes with this professor in the program of women's and gender studies. She was accommodating, brilliant and the best!
I loved this professor for my class and wanted to take more. easy marker but fair.
students are basically teaching themselves. Her lectures consist of her reading off the slides, and she alternated async and sync learning even though the class was supposed to be sync. Very poor communication. Drastic expectations for final paper. not very organized.
The most amazing woman. After the strike, she made all the tests available at our own pace. She gave everyone extensions and helped all the students get through the term. She said she was going to mark all the papers over the holidays and she accommodated everyone. A gem professor at the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Mehta is one of the most caring and considerate professors. She is happy to extend deadlines and work around busy schedules, and will always answer emails in a timely manner. Her teaching is a bit dry, just reads from the slides. I could tell she isn't passionate about this topic in any way. Overall, very caring, but not necessarily a good prof
Fair teacher. I would take again. Strike made things a mess but still did well because the prof cared
Lectures are very dry. Just reads from slides and the textbook. Interesting videos but does not always effectively link them to class content. Tests are difficult. Semi-tough grader and does not provide feedback. Students receive a percent grade but are not given any information on what they lost marks on.
She is not caring at all. Basically teaching ourselves and making live difficult for us students. Does not provide feedback from quizzes. DO NOT TAKE HER AT ALL
Class is fairly easy, all test are MC Questions and most of the questions are in your study bank that she gives. But the worst thing is all her slides are from the textbook she barely explains it during lectures and she is not really accessible outside class. Also some MC Questions are heavy book related so just a heads up.
This professor has absolutely no compassion. This was a distance course however it was continuously compared to in-class. It was not at all distance-friendly!
Honestly this prof is super disorganized. She is very nice but her classes make absolutely no sense and the content is very all over the place.
The Absolute best course and so nice to talk to you when you get the chance! I would take anything with them.
she is awful. she doesn't make sense and talk from syllabus and rubric in meetings. doesn't answer any questions but instead of that she says, "The marks can go down more if you keep on insisting" lol very unprofessional and doesn't reply to emails for weeks
I wish I could make it less than 0. no words for her
She is one of the most unprofessional and rudest professors I have seen. She does not reply to emails. Does not provide helpful feedbacks. It is very hard to set up a meeting with her. Does not care about students at all. Makes it so that you have to buy her book that she wrote, to do an assignment (because no one else buys it).
Fantastic course - loved it SO much! Intelligent Prof, shared research and experiences and fair grader. Attend office hours as the teacher gives feedback one to one. Would recommend Dr. Punam to annyone!!
Most unprofessional/lazy prof ever. Disorganized and unhelpful. Get ready to pay hundreds of $ to teach yourself and wait for email replies for over 2 weeks. She doesn't even bother to update and proof read the syllabus and notes. The material itself is easy so you can still get an A but her lack of effort and arrogancy is unreal.
I would like students to know that this professor helped me a lot with my papers and to understand the course materials. I appreciated how kind the teacher was and if you attended the office hours reviewed all the materials from the quizzes. I would take anything with professor punam!!
Professor Mehta is a caring professor, she does what she can to help her students with stress. However, she is very unprofessional. She does not know the content she is teaching and has no clue what assignments she is giving out. She also marks assignments incredibly hard and provides no feedback. I would never recommend taking a class with her.
There were many assignments and tests and papers! It was more work than any of my other classes. Dr. Punam takes off alot of marks for writing. Take her class only if you want to work harder than in any other class. Final was easy, take-home which made it easier for students.
She was EXTREMELY disorganized, zoomed through lecture slides (reading them and sections of the textbook word for word), assignments weren't worth very much for the effort they required and some of these were due in the MIDDLE of reading week, we had to read TWO ~500-page novels as well as the course textbook, and the group project was a disaster.
good distance course and live lectures once a week made it super accessible
She refuses to post actual outlines for assignments, and if you want any info about the material whatsoever you have to attend office hours because nothing that she posts on Umlearn makes any sense. Also be prepared to wait a month for her to mark things!
She is wonderful and kind! Highly recommended !
Awesome prof and lots of talking about current events and politics and thinking critically about the world
highly recommended!
Fantastique prof
Really enjoyed dr punam
Enjoyed learning with this professor
Important class, love the teacher
She was an excellent professor
Very clear and organized, and prof very passionate about program planning
Quite a mixed bag with this professor. While some found them helpful and engaging, others felt they were disorganized and unhelpful. To succeed, be proactive - use unstuckstudy for study prep and attend office hours. Worth the effort if you're interested in the material.
She is amazing. I could listen to her all day Two thumbs up
She is awesome. I learned so much from her, and she spent a lot of time helping me. I am thankful to have such a caring professor.
Reading the textbook and slides, provides practice tests and good weekly lectures. Cares deeply about students success and would take another course with them
Systems thinking assignments were so much fun as was learning about journey mapping and levers of change and impact gaps. What an original class and teacher. Would take another course with dr punam !!!
DR Punam! was awesome. I loved reading Margaret Atwood and learning more about health promotion in the public health system. There was small group work and case studies, as well as lots of reading and writing essays. highly recommended !!
I took this class last year and we learned so many cool things about health promotion and prevention, reproductive justice problems, and systems thinking in global health promotion. It is such an awesome experience to take a course with Dr Punam!
Please avoid taking a course with her. Her courses are not only very confusing for people to understand, you are basically alone in the whole process. She will never make time for you to actually grasp the material.
beautiful teacher. never had a teacher like this. I liked her so much, that I bought her textbook twice
Dr mehta was awesome at human development
Do not take classes with Dr. Mehta. There were extreme typos in the syllabus about due dates and typos in exam. The entire class was unorganized, it was impossible to find information and she did nothing to fix her mistakes in the syllabus. Her exams are also extremely unfair, she wants in text references on a closed book exam.
Prof explains concepts around program planning planning iand reading Gabor mate is clearly the profs passion Very good experience
When I was in trouble with my house dr punam helped me find food and shealter. There is no one at the university of Manitoba like her. Take anything you can with her as she is a diamond in the sand. She treats everyone with kindness and compassion
We had a lockdown in the classroom and the prof made us all feel very safe I enjoyed what we learned about and the textbook. I would recommend her for anything else.
I registered late and the prof made sure I was caught up and most of my other profs didn't care, she is awesome and kind
If you are thinking about taking this course online with her, DO NOT! She is by far the most disorganized prof I've ever had. Took me 2 days to figure out what the assignment was even asking me to do. One of the exams worth 20% is entirely based on her book, which has nothing to do with the course material. She was very generous with the grading.
Prof was incredible as she is able to draw from work as an epidemiologist and social justice self care and wellness. Also the prof helped everyone in the class going through stuff like for me as I had some anxiety. It was a wonderful class
I would recommend fmly2012 displacement and conflict to anyone.the material was excellent from gender and race theories and creative storytelling which took me out of my comfort zone but she made it clear and fun
This professor is good, but her tests and finals are unnecessarily complicated, like this is just an intro class, how are you gonna only test based on the textbook and make it in a way that you have to be Sherlock Holmes to find the answers in the textbooks, it is very jarring. I was supposed to get an A but I was reduced down to a B+. NO
This was a great introduction class. I really enjoyed the live lectures. I studied and went to every class. It is the only way to do well. I would take anything with this professor again!, highly recommended!,,
i missed the deadline to rate her on UM SRI and she sent me such a sweet email i had to rate her somewhere ;)
We just got our grades today and I am so happy. This course changed the way I think about health care. We learned about first nations and Metis health program planning in Manitoba. The prof knows alot and has been working and teaching the field for for several decades. She is gem and highly recommed.
this is fourth course i have take with Dr Punam! she is the prof UM, hand down. hardworking, generous, and inspirational!
