Great teacher. Really passionate about his craft, and willing to help anybody who is in need. Excellent understanding of all facets of Philosophy. Very interesting class as well, although extremely abstract.

Helpful, easy midterms n final
Intro to phil should not be that hard, he was trying to make everything tricky, the midterm ask crazy question which could never know. Whole class got 0 for that question. If you have chnace and do not want fail easily, take with other instructor.

Very un-clear and always so picky, he was giving out a midterm and those question always expect u to write at least 100 characters per short question. there is 9-10 question, i do not have time to write 1000 words within 1:30 minutes. Gang ni ni ar

he is an easy teacher for Asian students. easy midterms and mini-tests.. questions on the midterms are from handouts in class. attend class, u will do your midterm well.

expects 2 high from an intro, M-terms r given questions to study, but even if he gave 2 you, the answer that u write it will never fullfill what he wants, essay r hard too, same essay from Patricks class will get B- but with Li it's 40% which is Fail.

this is the worst teacher at kwantlen.he is extremely hard 2 understand.he speaks broken english and gives everybody 40% on essays.he expects too much even though he himself spells words incorrect on the board and has no idea what he teaches

Very hard to understand, can’t speak good English, doesn’t have a firm grasp on the material, spells things wrong all the time. Marks based on whether he agrees with you not on quality of argument. Makes material more confusing then it is, has poor taste in textbooks.
his class is a peice of cake if you attend, you only need to write a short final essay (only 3-4 pgs.) and short answers on the mid-term but best of all any idoit could pass his finnal essay by doing an oral pressentation instead of paper.

VERY easy class. The textbook explains everything very clearly. As long as you read ahead and attend class you'll do fine. He's a bit unclear in class but again, as long as you read ahead you'll have no problem.
Hard-working teacher! Although he speaks broken English and gives out difficult readings, his exams are pretty straight forward as long as u really study the book! He even gave us the prepared questions for midterms and finals, and give u feedback if u show him ur answers.
Honestly ppl who make poor comments of this guy, either never attends class, or doesnt speaka lick of english themselves. He's a pretty good prof, indeed he may not be too clear in his explanations but if you took the notes and read the damn readings, you'll do well in his class. He WILL help you.
Course breakdown: 4 quizzes(5%each), midterm (20%), term paper(30%), final exam(20%),participation(10%). He gives the exam questions ahead of time and only expects concise responses. I got an A- on the termpaper and a B+ in the course. DONT SLACK ON THE TERMPAPER, CLASS AVG WAS B-.
I took him 2 semester ago. He is not bad at all. He may not be very clear, but you can always "ASK" if you don't understand. I am very confident that he done his job. He is teaching in a way as expected. Not great, but not bad as some of people say
Hard to understand sometimes, but very knowledgeable. If you do your assignments and readings you will do well. Very approachable if you take the time to see him.
He's really nice, but not a very good teacher. You don't have to go to class to understand the concepts: just read the book. I used to love Philosophy and then I went in his class and I hate it. There's not enough valuable discussion. It's a really easy class though, I'll give you that.
Not a great teacher, he is difficult to understand and gives hard exams and essays and expects too much for Philosophy 1100. He is hard to follow and always draws pictures in his notes...it's not Pictionary, it's Philosophy! He is very nice but also marks many things wrong on exams, even if it is from your notes.
Very confusing. But, if you read the text you'll do fine. During class he just paraphrases what is in the textbook. Very BORING class. Be warned.

although, lots of students think that his class is boring, i find it really interesting. If you do your reading, you know what he is talking about. I think it is not fair to say that he is hard to understand, it is philosophy, it is difficult, if you do the reading, you will easily get an "A". I think, he is good after all.

The lectures are extremely boring. The man speaks in a mono-tone voice throughout, and lectures aren't necessarily structured. Having said that, Puqun is VERY helpful, and the material itself is very interesting. I screwed myself out of an "A" in his class, but don't let the previous comments fool you. This class is EASY. Just do your readings.
A really nice man but very dull and his accent is hard to understand. He gives participation marks based on how many times you email him or show up at his office so you can easily get a good grade for pretending to be ignorant.
OMG!!! you must read the textbook for his class!!! lik, you MUST MUST!! the lectures are quite intresting but very long. it's all overhead and chalkboard notes; so be prepared to write your hand off =P overall, a really awesome guy who is passionate about his field of study. =D
This guy is aweful, doesnt know anything about philosophy. Text book teacher, doesnt interest students. I'd very much like to see him replaced by a much better teacher, rather than some guy who doesnt listen to reason.
I definitely did not come out of his class empty handed. The things that he talks about in the class can be used through out life. His exams are easy and he is an easy marker.
The topics we had are fine, but he definitely is a hard marker..all the tests are definition questions, and the average of all the tests is about 60%. He makes the first year course hard. If you are going to take his course, it's not too late to change to a different teacher.

Phil of Religion, now 2120. He was my first phil teacher and although the material was very interesting, Puqun managed to bore me with his 3 hour nonstop, no discussion style of teaching. He really cares about helping and is quite knowledgeable but there's a barrier in his communication and his tone is so boring. Take this course with someone else
Li is an easy going guy and he's helpful. The course is easy and there are only 2mts + a term paper + a final, that's it. The course materials are interesting and applicable in life. And i don't think his english is as bad as the previous comments say. Recommend!

He is a really good teacher! Easy and very helpful. His test are all written not m/c he has one paper 2 quiz and 2 test so it was easy. You can understand him and he is funny! You should def take his class I recommend. Also he is easy to approach.

Extremely boring.
Puqun is an excellent proff, who is extremely helpful and passionate about what he does. He will lecture for three hours, but he is very open to discussion, but expects students to initiate such discussions. I am planning on taking him again soon, and highly recommend him to people are are interested in engaging in a class.
Honestly, the class is super boring but Puquin is a nice guy. Clear notes and thought provoking subjects. He's helpful and he wants you to learn through your own self-discovery and achievements. A good class.
Horrible! This class dropped my GPA drastically. Prof is not helpful and seems to be in a hurry to leave the class as soon as it's over.
He has some good stories but he expects the class to contribute things to get the class rolling. Afterall, you're in a philosophy class. You're supposed to debate, share ideas, think about societal matters etc etc. Compared to many mediocre profs at kwantlen, Puquin in one of the better ones.

I have had Mr. Li twice, and I plan on taking a course with him again in the near future. If you focus on the main issues discussed, keep up with the reading, and take proper notes during the lecture, you will do well. He is very straight forward with what will be appearing on the tests: he will give you the questions before hand! Enjoyable class.
Writes notes along with you on the computer so that you don't have to feel rushed. There's always the same 5 or 6 people that talks so it can be quite interesting. He has this really relaxing effect on the students so I think he's a pretty chill guy. Would take him again instead of enrolling in yoga or meditation, I swear. :)
Tests are straight forward. If you show up and listen to the lecture and take proper notes, then you will do well on the tests. Mr. Li assigned weekly commentary assignments as well. I was interested in the course material so I enjoyed his lectures overall.
he's a really good teacher, I don't know what the other kids are talking about. The people who are bashing on Puqun are either really dumb themselves or didn't attend the class. Extremely helpful and always there to help if you just ask.
Explains the material very clearly, exams are straight forward. He is very knowledgeable, and helpful! If you read the materials that he assigns and attend to class for lecture discussions, easy A. I actually appreciate his effort and ambition about teaching.
Our class on this semester was really awesome. I'm not good at using English, but he cares about me very well(I mean I'm not a native speaker) And almost student in this class likes him and we were satisfied with his class. I sincerely recommend this professor. You should. :) (+ He is a fair marker, so you can get a good grade if you try hard.)
He was really awesome professor on last semester. Almost students in the class were satisfied with his class and him, and we learned a lot from him. He is really nice guy. Also, I'm not a native speaker(from the other country), but he cares about me very well. I seriously recommend him to you guys. You would not regret for sure.
Very dedicated prof. Willing to teach. He uses real life examples to explain philosophical theories. I can easily link with my own experience and comprehend theories. It is highly recommended for those who want to learn. 9 commentaries account for 50%. 1 midterm 20% and 1 paper 25% and 5% presentation. Ok marker.
Mr. Li was a great prof. He had personal stories and explained passages in his textbook every week. we had 6 short commentary's due every week an oral midterm and an essay for a final. He sometimes was unclear with expectations but wants you to connect the stories with your experiences in life. Overall pretty easy class but lectures can get boring.
Good Prof
Dr. Li isn't really a hard professor, he just doesn't just take philosophy lightly. If you want a good grade you have to work for it. His commentaries are kind of hard but when you're done those, things get much easier.
His grading scheme is very unclear. It seems as though if you do n ot agree with his ideology, you wont get a good mark. His lectures seem pointless and extremely long. But he insists on seeing him during his office hours so that he can help you as much as he can. Helpful, but very unclear how to get good marks in his class.
The best professor I ever had. Great at everything. His lectures are fun, teaches with passion and makes the most difficult concepts easy to understand. I took him for many classes and is brilliant in all of them. Go to each class and you should definitely get an A.
I really wouldnt take this prof again. Hes an extremely tough marker and not really helpful even though he insists you come to his office hours. He failed half of the class on their take home assignments, definitely dropping out.
He's a tough marker; if you make one small error in your answer then you'll get a 0 for the whole question. He doesn't give any good feedback and his lectures are long and tedious. Your grade is based off of 4 exams, and it's hard to pass them with his terrible marking strategy. I have so much to say for this guy, but I'll just say he's not good.

Mr. Li has incredible passion for the subject that he teaches. Professionally, he wants his students to succeed, and insists on students to come visit him. However, his marking rubric is incredibly unclear. What he wants in his class is so vague. I recommend avoiding this class, though he is an amazing person individually.
Just finished our first exam in the class, and wow, he marks VERY HARD. The course is basically 4 exams, and if this is what I have to look up to, Id be worried about passing. He gives us exercises but they are easier than the exam questions, theres no point. I believe he expects too much from an introductory course. Hes boring too.
Most of the students failed the 2nd exam in the course. I agree he asks too much from an intro course. He even made a study habits video for us after seeing the results of the 2nd exam. The problem is not us, Puqun, its you. If you need to tell uni students how to study, maybe YOU are the problem. Lot of students have withdrawn BTW, and Im next

So our phil1150 class is graded solely by 4 exams. Professor Puqun is enthusiastic, available outside of class and gives you the tools you need. I say that as someone getting mostly A's and failing phil 1150. It's a hard class, you need to study, a lot, and it's still going to be hard.
if you don't spend many hours studying for this course you will not pass. The test questions are much harder than the homework, no matter how much you study, the tests will still be stressful and hard. I didn't find him to be a hard marker and Puqun is good as answering questions well and quickly. He's a nice guy but the test are just too hard
Puqun is a very funny guy and he honestly seems like a great person. But wow, this is the first time that Ive had to drop a class. Almost the entire class was failing and he still didnt get the memo that mayb its his teaching methods and not the students lack of studying. Ur final mark is worth 4 exams and nothing else lol goodluck if u take him.
Impossible to get a good grade in this class no matter how hard your try. Don't even bother taking this course.
The way he put up lecture video is not even explainable, he just uploads before the actual class schedule, the lecture is long is full with simple example while the text is no where near that. It's like text and lecture are two completely different things. Do not take course with this prof under any circumstances.
If you want to fail, take him. Good luck.

Explains things in a very simple fashion during his lectures, but during exams it's a whole other level. He probably uses pre-recorded lectures from previous semesters too. He seems to enjoy his students failures, and he doesn't care about teaching. Course is graded entirely through exams, no assignments or anything with feedback.
You will not learn from this prof. He will give u very difficult question in exams and he can't explain anything properly
As registration opens, I'm here to recommend that you DON'T take him. You will thank me later. Most people withdrew from his classes and many people failed his tests. You are only graded with exams the whole course for his PHIL classes!
Oh gosh. I wish I read all these reviews before taking the class. Got horrible marks, think this is going to be my first failed class in the multiple years I've been at KPU. Please don't take this teacher. He's nice, but his lectures are only helpful for basic questions, he asks harder questions on exam and doesn't give enough time.

Do not recommend him. Seems like there are many complaints about him for similar reasons - simple lectures and very difficult exams and without enough allotted time. Lectures are pre-recorded, and no student interaction. Also he really couldnt give a you know what about you. Hands down the worst prof Ive come across in my multiple years at KPU.

seems like my ratings are getting deleted but ok. just wanted to say that i took this class twice. the first time i took it with puqun, and i was badly failing. 2nd time i took it with another prof and did very well with the same effort. all these people are correct. avoid this prof at all costs
This class and this teacher is a living nightmare. I do not recommend that you take this prof under any circumstances. You will be stressed and confused out of your mind, because he will not teach you anything thoroughly but expects you to know difficult things for every exam, and there are 4 of them worth your entire grade, so good luck with that.
Hands down the worst prof I have come across in my 4 years at this school. Terrible teaching methods, leaving most of the students clueless. Terrible way of assessing your performance as you're only graded via tests. Terrible all around.
i just finished this class with puqun li and it was the worst experience i ever had, we were on our own to study 4 different units in symbolic logic which was very hard and puqun never helped us along the way, he made everything confusing and difficult and he blamed us for not studying hard enough when we didn't do well, and i studied for hours!!!

So, this prof cannot explain the concepts of what he is teaching in an easy-to-understand manner. Everything he says comes across as confusing, and when you ask him to clarify something, he makes it even more confusing. Just an utter mess of an experience, and I'm regretting taking him. We just had out first exam, and due to confusion, many failed.
i came to his office hours to ask for help and he just told me to go away after not being able to understand my question... i cannot believe this prof and how he is allowed to teach
Look at all the endless complaints here and KPU wants to do NOTHING about this prof. It's honestly horrible and despicable. To put my experience into perspective, Puqun has never answered my emails, offer to assist me on the questions I got wrong in exams, and has been blatantly rude. Others have had the same experience, as 2/3 have withdrawn...
Had to take class with him since KPU registration is bad but listen to the reviews HE IS TERRIBLE Grade is calculated by 4 Exams meaning mess up one you done had to withdraw because don't want an F and bad GPA Most students fail maybe 4 people passed an exam Please don't take him it is a waste of money wait for another prof that teaches this course
He is a good person. However, he is a TERRIBLE prof. Don't take this class with him, the tests are ALOT harder than what is taught in class. I would not recommend this prof to anyone. His marking is terrible, there is no explanation just a mark. It is almost impossible to get partial marks on the question. I feel sorry for anyone who has this prof

Course consisted of two projects, a midterm, and a term paper. Projects involved a written commentary and presentation. His instructions for assignments were vague and when asked for clarification he just made things more confusing. Because of this you would lose points for things you didn't know you had to consider. Lectures were long and boring.
This class was awesome, there was very little work, and the major project was incredibly fun to do and easy to complete. This professor is clearly very passionate about what he teaches, some of the lectures are a little bit repetitive but all in all, I had an awesome experience in this class.
This class was an easy pass, not an easy A. He rambles in his lectures which can distract from the main points, however, you do not need to watch lectures to pass. The major project is your make or breaks as the presentation element and short essay are weighed heavily but graded very well. The midterm and term paper are graded harshly.
Absolutely clueless, lazy, & doesn't care about you. It seemed most people had given up on him. Class was 12/35 full at the end of the semester. It was full at the start of it. That should tell you everything about him. Listen to these reviews people. Nearly impossible to pass; the whole course is graded via exams. So many complaints here! Read!

Excellent class, well organized and feedback was useful to improve my grade. Dr. Li makes the most of our class and everything that I learned is useful for life and for school. He was helpful and take time to review draft and give advice. It was clear what was expected and how to get there. Amazing course & was fun to write for the grade
Logic is not easy for everyone and that is why everyone attack the this prof. Honestly, the course was well organized but is HARD, so you need enough time to study, no way to catch up without studying. The prof was clear & try to help, but I was lost and not extra time to study, so I drop it. If you are math oriented no problem.
Get ready to be graded on 3 tests only. Also his way of teaching is just atrocious its really hard to grasp the material and hes super strict at marking. One question will be worth 5 points (to show your steps) but he wont give partial marks for the step thats correct if the answer is wrong. Two years at KPU and this is my first withdrawal.

This class can be really tough, but using resources like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can help you stay on top of the material. The lectures are structured, but the exams are challenging.
Apathetic. Cold. PHIL1100 is Discrete Math 2.0. If you don't get a good professor, you're cooked. This is not a good professor. You will get cooked. If you take him, lock in extremely hard or you're not going to understand a thing. Online explanations that aren't from him or the course will help you a lot. It's very important that you watch lectures and ask the professor for feedback if necessary. The only thing to note that you need lots of practice, and stay ahead of the homework. The class can be tough if you take it lightly, like most students do. I think the professor is fair, gives plenty of warning ahead of time. Good Luck!
Some people like him, most don't. Boring rambly lectures, make a seemingly simple topic harder to understand. Lowkey made me feel ashamed for taking longer to write the midterm (I scored above the average so BOO) But, if you read and put effort into your work you shouldn't have a problem passing, not easy A though. Never touching a PHIL class again
Genuinely just an overall knowledgeable and kind individual, sometimes explanations to your questions can be lengthy; nevertheless, gives you ample time for assignments and grades, while marking leniently. Only has one midterm exam and gives you all possible questions that can appear on the midterm exam, beforehand.
he talks SO slowly i listened to every lecture in 2x. looks for very specific answers so if you dont write what he wants he will dock marks. A fair amount of assignments so its easy to manage course load with other classes but lots of reading (dont take if ur not a big reader). Not really useful feedback. if u take his class make it asynch!
Midterm and oral commentaries are easy. But he is not clear on how he marks papers, and it also seems if you do not give the specific mystery answer he wants you get docked pts. This is my first B in 2 years of classes. If you like philosophy you'll probably be fine, if you're taking it for a different major find a different prof.
