Dedicated. Makes class interesting. Recommended.
Very helpful
one of the best teachers i've had yet. she is so dedicated, clear and organized. doesn't waste time on stuff you dont need to know. also really friendly and her tests have no surprises as she gives very helpful study guides. recommended!!
Very nice
very good teacher. helps students all time. a worth class. just take it, you will enjoy. BUT, be ready to read the book to get a good grade. easy to get a B. To get an A, you got put some time.
Phsyical Geography : Very nice lady. Knows her stuff. Very polite.
She is a great teacher. Really explains the material so its understandable and fun to learn! I really recommend her to anyone
Mrs. Fernandez is very respectful person, very straight forward, explains excellent, what she explains in class, is more than enough:)..she doesn't waste time in stupid stuff, she knows what she is doing, i enjoyed her class very much...my advice to anyon
She rocks best teacher I have.
Awesome teacher. She is very clear and organized. Really easy to talk to if you go visit her during office hours. This class isn't a super easy course, but if you take good notes you should be ok. I never did the readings daily but I got a B.
Ms. Fernandez is a great teacher. All you have to do is write down whatever she puts on the board, study from the book (you don't have to read it as much) and you'll do fine. She's helpful, gives a review sheet before your test so you should do fine.
Her lectures are very clear and she draws pictures to make her point even more clear. On exams remember to be as detailed as she is in class or else she will take off point she is clearer than the book
She is a very nice and polite teacher. She knows the material very well. She is willing to help EACH student in her class. Her exams are okay and not too hard.
Make all information very clear. Very limited work load. Class worth taking
Excellent teacher. Very and clear and organized so made the material really interesting and easy to remember. Very friendly and helpful with questions also. But she won't let you get away with not doing the work.
Mrs Fernandez is a generous, nice and warm teacher always with smiles. She is clear, organized and knowledgeable. Her exams are easy. Just drop down lecture notes and study, you are ensured to get at least a B. Totally recommended.
Good Instructor who knows her material. Easy going and answers questions respectfully. Just gotta get past the accent and attend to class to do well.
She's a very nice teacher who explains the material very well. The exams are easy as long as you take down notes and study a bit. I definitely recommend this teacher.
Ms. Fernandez is professional, knowledgeable and well organized. Her lectures are interesting and you really know your stuff when you get out of her class. The BEST instructor by far for teaching geography, her passion for the subject is unmatched!
I love Purba! She is organized, clear, respectful, and so dignified. One student made a kind of inappropriate comment to another & Purba was so calm & collected, but put them in their place (I would have just blown up!)
Mrs. Fernandes is an awesome teacher! She is very respectful, helpful, encourages her students to succeed. I'll warn it can be boring but she makes the class exciting. Only actual homework is the assignment packets. The mid-terms/final can be tough but not if you study. I recommend taking her!
Purba Fernandez is a gifted instructor. Her interest in the subject energizes the lectures. I think a rock is a rock is a rock, how dull, but even this subject is interesting when Fernandez lectures. Read the text, take thorough notes - those who don't do well have only themselves to blame.
One of the best intstructors at De Anza. Loves her stuff and is so detail in her lessons with step by step lectures. Easy A if u pay attention to every word she says and therefore u don't have to read.
very nice. usually interesting. knowlegdable and excited. tests were pretty hard though. but only need 65% to get a C!!
very good teacher
So nice and engaging! Tests were hard though, with such a time constraint! But Purba is so interesting and teaches very well.
excellent teacher.
Great teacher. Gets the material across very well and is an overall nice woman.
great class, knew nothing about geography before and took it to fill units, got an A and a great connection at school. she's a great teacher take her class!
she is a very very very very good teacher! She is NOT hard if you just listen in class and go ovr your notes before the tests. Class consists of 3 mideterms(1 of them final but counts as a mideterm) and 3 assignements which are very fair. She is very intellegent and pours light on the subject!!!!!!!
Easy teacher but has to fix her grading. I got an A in all her test and B+/A in assignments but ended up with a B.
Great professor. Only had to listen to lecture and take notes to absorb the material. I honestly didnt read the text once. She covers everything you need to ace tests during lecture.
She makes her lecture so interested and easy. I spent little time preparing the tests but still got an A easily. Just enjoy her lecture! But her pop quizs is kinda annoying.
Purba is an excellent teacher. If you want a teacher who is enthusiastic and actually cares about what they teach, take her class. She is very passionate about the subject and answers any questions. Overall, she serves a perfect example of what a teacher should be. You will enjoy her class. She has a teaching style that suits every learner. GREAT!!
purba is an outstanding teacher. incredibly smart. clear and helpful. class is not very easy but is up to you to do a good job. just study and do take home assignments and do good on tests. really a very basic class and interesting because purba is so smart. recommended class!
Exellent instructor! Her lecture is so clear, helpful, and interesting! She is also very kind and modest. I admire and like her very much.I feel sad that I am going to leave her class. I'll miss her... Take her if it is possible. You will learn a lot.
She is a great teacher. She is hard and expects you to follow directions. She is a good lecturer and is very clear. I would love to have her for all my classes.
this is best teacher @ DA. she knows she is talking about. very interesting and expirienced. her lectures are very clear and she gives exam reviews a week ahead of time. SHE IS THE BEST EVER. I HIGHLY RECOMEND TAKING HER.
I took this class and expected it to be a very boring class. Prof. Fernandez gives great clarity, and has interesting lectures that leaves you with all kinds of questions about earth. She has really sparked my interest in Geography. When students ask their "what if this... or what if that" questions, she can give you legitimate answers.
I thought this class was going to be easy because of all the comments below but this class you have ALOT to do!!!! So get ready to work!!
Mrs.Fernandez is one of the most inspiring teachers I have ever had, if not the most. She knows what she's talking about and keeps the class interactive and intertaining. If you just listen you will do well on the tests. She doesn't ask anymore from you than you would of her.I wish she taught all my classes! Take this class. It's changed my life.
She's a good teacher. Pay attention, take good notes, read the text, and you should be fine. Assignments she gives are a little childish, and she grades harshly on them, so beware of those.
She really knows what she is talking about. Her quizes are tough and her tests are sometimes hard. There is a lot of information so it is important to take good notes. She is a very nice lady and she does her best to make things easy to understand.
Mrs. Fernandez is an extremely smart and well-educated professor. People may say her class is "boring", but all classes have some aspects of boredom and she does her best to make it as interesting and engaging as possible. If you want to learn alot and do moderate work at the same time, it will do you great service to take her class.
professor fernandez . is one of the best teachers that i have taken a course from. she follows the material from the text very clear. she knows what she is talking about. take her class , if you miss one day trust me you will fall behind. i earned a B in the class. do the work.
She is really nice, and very very helpful!!! So, highly recommended.
For someone who knew nothing about geography, she made me love the subject. She is a wonderful teacher and i have alot of respect for her. She knows how to teach and shes also very helpful.
VERY smart woman who teaches in a very clear, purposeful manner while being more than happy to go into detail and explain things with examples. She's very helpful and nice. Really sheds light on geography and makes it fascinating.
There is a lot of content in this class but she will teach it to you in a way that not only do you learn from it, it is practical and easy to understand while applying to the outside world. If you take very good notes by writing down everything she says and studying it, you don't even have to read the text. She is a good teacher and knows her stuff
Highly recommended. Very nice and helpful. If you catch up the class meeting everyday, it will be very easy.
Excellent teacher, very professional. You could miss class if you want, I don't think she really cares, but you learn SO MUCH from her lectures that you're going to miss a lot. She helps keep the topic interesting, and everything on the tests she went over in class. Easy to get an A if you pay attention and take notes.
she was an excellent teacher! she wrote great drawings on the board which made it easy to understand things. she is smiley and happy and she made me want to take other classes related to geography. TAKE HER CLASS!!
very helpfull teacher. know alot about alot. fun class and very good topics. you will learn alot of cool stuff and have fun too. take this class
This was an excellent class. The instructor was friendly and fair, with a true talent for clarity. Be prepared to take copious notes and remember number-oriented details for tests. Make sure to copy her diagrams carefully, as you will be asked to duplicate them on exams. Interesting subject matter, great teacher, and highly recommended!
Such an interesting class! I would look forward to it because the material is so riveting. She is pretty easy, just memorize what is on the study guide for tests, but be warned, she isnt like most teachers when it comes to homework. She doesnt just check it and give you credit, she reads it and if its not her answer, you won't get points
She is a pretty cool teacher she is very excellent. I enjoy her teaching methods and she has a very structured class. I am glad i took it and would recomend taking her. If you are not a serious student than i would not take this class because you need to be committed.
My favorite at De Anza. Crystal Clear teaching. Fun and learned a lot.
Purba Fernandez is a GREAT teacher. She will always helps you if you are confused. She doesn't like people doing causeing distractions-which is a good thing cause she wants full attention on the class. Physical Geography is a great class to be taught by her. She gives you a handbook with all the information you need to take tests, and the finals. I
Purba's a VERY woman. She's glad to help with anything, and her lectures are actually pretty interesting to listen to. It kinda sounds like she's making geography( or the nature of Earth) into a story to better understand it. Her lectures are important to go to, so try not to be absent alot cuz she DOES have POP quizzes here and there. =]
She`s passionate about her work and her teaching is clear. Yet she is not an easy grader and this class is about at least 10pages of reading per day. I worked a lot and got all Bs but I sure learned a lot of new things.
Very nice person. She makes the lectures pretty interesting and is very thorough. She gives study guides for each test, and the study guide is EXACTLY what the test is like. If you come to class everyday and pay attention to her lectures and are good at memorizing the class is a cake walk. if you flake on attendance you'll have a harder time
Purba is wonderful. She's extremely helpful, very clear. Most important thing about this class is DON'T MISS DAYS. Notes from class are CRUCIAL to passing.
Excellent teacher and not only in teaching but running the class. The topics for that day's discussion would be written on the board prior to class. Class starts right on time and she doesn't allow distractions. Her green sheet lays out the entire course, and she follows it to a tee. The only extra credit offered and is taking a study group or
She is definetly a very good teacher. Her class is very well structured. We exactly know what to study for the exams as it is all given in course packet. But it is not a easy class. U really need to work hard to get a good grade. Pay attention in her class
She is definetly a very good teacher. She has a very good understanding of the subject and she is very clear in her teaching. But the class is not easy hence the best way to get a good grade is to pay attention and take notes
She is a good teacher, and the material is very interesting, however she is a very hard grader and she treats the class like we are 5 years old, threatening to take away cell phones & not give them back if she sees them. Her grading on tests is ridiculous because i had the same answers as my friends and got less points. No extra credit or sympathy.
I really liked her. Competent, clear, and level-headed. The exams were a struggle for some, but she gives VERY helpful study guides so you're never unsure of what material to go over, and at the end she offered 20 extra credit points [that's half a letter grade!] Not so easy it was boring, and not so hard it was impossible. I'd recommend her!
She is a very dedicated teacher and really cares how you do in the class. If she sees you slacking, she very well may approach you. If you don't like that, i wouldn't recommend her. Attendance is pretty important too...
she's nice enough but the material is dense and requires studying. be sure to attend lecture and draw all the little diagrams. not very sympathetic to student BS excuses but i don't blame her. interesting class, wish i'd paid more attention
hard class, tons of assignments; if you want a easy GE class don't take her' requires a lot of time 2 get good grade in exam
HER LECTURE IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND' EXAM IS HARD
her tests are not that hard, most of the questions are just based on the study guide. just make sure you attend the lectures, read the textbook and study guide, then you will be fine
She's very cool!! Funny, n i enjoy her class lectures!but i agree she's not sympathetic wit bs excuses. Other than that, yes the material is very intersting but it requires lots of studying. You willneed to take your time to do the assigments and study for tests. If you're someone that procastinates, then dont take her class. you will fail.
good teacher, explains the topics well. if you take notes everyday and read the book, you should do fine. study guides for exams are exactly what you need to do well. provides a lot of extra credit, 20 points extra credit on final!
class is preetty easy just pay attention for a little ull get an a
Fabulous lecturer, gives good notes and only tests on what she's covered in class. I don't really like earth sciences but we learned useful things in this class. Gives random quizzes but also ample opportunity for extra cred so it evens out. She really is a great teacher, very passionate and not boring to listen to at all!
Her lectures are really great. You have to be in class every day because the book is so confusing compared to her in class explanations. The study guide tells you exactly what's going to be on the test. Four assignments plus some quizzes and a couple extra credit options. There's alot to learn but she's great at explaining it
AWESOME!! I freakin' love this lady. She really makes this subject interesting, even if you weren't interested to begin with. Relates things to your every day life and what's going on in the world around you. Her lectures are really interesting. You don't need the book, you get it all from the lectures. What she expects is very straight forward.
I wouldn't have wanted to learn this subject from anyone else... her lectures are crystal clear.. her teaching style is professional... she is on top of her game.. and she loves this subject... i spent some time getting to know her, she is a wonderful, helpful, and caring person... she is awesome!!! I got an A in the class.. but did the work
Great teacher take the skills class with it - it is only worth 20 extra credit points but that goes far for her class. Take really good notes because what she says in class is what is on the test. She wants people to succeed and really helps you do it. She is really knowledgable about the topic and her love of it is contageous.
omg! i love this teacher... she is really helfull and fun.. she is so nice.. i highly recomend to take geo with her.. she is awesome.. i love thios teacher... and her class is very interesting and she gives notes about the class and if you get a bad grade she will help you increased..
Yup yup this teacher is awesome! She really knows her stuff. She keeps the class interesting. There's a fair amount of group work but it helps if you're an oral learning kid. All you need to do is study for the midterms and you'll pass the class. I LOVE HER! one of the best teachers! ALWAYS answers ALL questions to the fullest, TAKE THIS CLASS!
This is the best class I took all quarter. She KNOWS her stuff, and teaches at a very high professional level. She's a very nice person, and is willing to help you if in need. As long as you study the study your notes and study guides, you'll pass easily. I recommend taking her class!
Purba is one of the best teachers at De Anza. Not only because her class is taught with clarity and her exams/hw are always easy enough if you study well BUT also cuz she goes ABOVE AND BEYOND her duties to assist her students in achieving the best grade they can get. She's respectful and dedicated and if you take her, you should be the same.
Excellent teacher, very organized course packet and extremely helpful. She makes it impossible to fail this class, you just have to put in some effort. Take the skills class, totally worth the time. If you HAVE to take a science class, this is it. You'll do fine, just don't be a slacker.
Fernandez really wasn't very interesting, every one keeps saying she was, but I just couldn't help falling asleep every class. She also really grades you down on late homework. She took 35 points off of a 70 point homework just because I turned it in late, giving me a very low score of 20-something on it.
Excellent teacher!
This class is a must take with this professor. she is absolutely incredible, and the nest teacher Ive had in de anza by far. Take he class, you will not regret it. She teaches in a very clear and interesting manner, and she makes it easy to succeed. STRONGLY RECOMMEND.
she is terrific, I enjoyed every lesson! I am a foreigner but her lessons were crystal clear and she made every subject soooo interesting. I have learned so many new things, but worked hard too. the prize? your knowledge.
She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject as well as approachable and willing to help students succeed. She managed to keep the entire course interesting and resourceful, so it is not surprising that I have learnt a lot. I would highly recommend taking this or any of her other classes.
Be prepared for pages of homework, lots of note taking on lectures every day, and pop quizzes. On a brighter note she provides study guides and extra credit opportunities that should be taken advantage of. Not the most exciting class of my spring quarter but she was helpful whenever needed.
It is an interesting class; the homework is not tricky, but you need to study consistently to get an A.
I'm not a geo person, but her teaching style got me interested and enjoying the class. I didn't read the text unless there was something on the study guide that lecure didn't cover in depth. You do need to study for tests, note taking is important, but at the same time the class is easy. She can get mad if nobody knows the answer sometimes though.
She's a great teacher. made me seriously think about becoming a geographer. thumbs up.
Judging by the past reviews, I thought this would be an easy class to take but boy, was I wrong. She yells at people for the dumbest things, and makes no sense when doing so. She hated my friend and me, and took every opportunity to yell at us. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. Lots of writing involved! Ugh.
She is very clear in her lectures. Although she talks alot, its hard for you to even try to fall asleep she keeps things very interesting and so simple that it is easy to learn.I didn't buy the book but you don't really need it.Just take notes and study. There are study guides in which that is basically the test itself so you will be prepared.
Mrs. Fernandez indeed is most organized instructor and knowledgeable person I've ever known. Her lectures are very clear, and she's very respectful of the students just as much as she is of the variety of cultures she's been studying and teaching. Don't waste your time nor her time if your main purpose is not learning but obtaining an "easy" A.
Very organized and straight foward. She makes you work for the grade but in the end you will understand everything in the class in detail which doesn't happend in every class. Her class is fast pace to cover a lot of material but worth it. She puts everything up on the board for easy notetaking. I highly reccomend taking the adjunct studies class.
It's definitely not a easy GE. there's no multiple choice for midterms. instead you need to write an essay, several paragraph-length questions and short answer. BUT! all the hard works would pay off as you'll learn a lot from her. many extra credits which are extremely helpful! got an A+ in the end :)
Extremely organized professor, simply follow instructions from the syllabus and you'll be fine. If you're organized you get an A, no surprises. Adjunct skills help a lot if you have 1h per week to attend. She loves what she does and you'll benefit from it. I never thought I'd learn so much about geography. Pretty interesting material.
Purba is the most motivating and organized teacher I have ever had. She teaches with great passion, uses the textbook, maps, visual aids, and her personal photographs to ensure that you learn the subject and retain the information. She is always smiling, and always helpful. Her study guides tell you exactly is on the tests.
She is nice and has really good memory. But she is HARD and you definitely have to put in the time/work for this class. Do all the extra credit. I took her twice because i didn't pass the first time, and I always pass all my classes with an A or B. Very difficult grader.
The class is absolutely fun. Take this class and you will find out how fun Geography is. Her teaching skill is so good; easy to get an A
I had Purba for physical geography. Not only was this my most interesting class I have ever taken at college, she made me look at the whole world around me differently. It is not an easy class. You need to study and do work. In regards to the professor, though, I would she is absolutely brilliant. Highly recommend.
When I first stepped into this class, after the 2nd week I thought "I'm going to give her all 1's on rate my professor"...well I'm glad I didn't jump too fast because by the end my opinion 100 percent changed. Yes, her class isn't a walk in the park. I didn't realize how I would learn not only geography, but study skills. She is helpful.recommended
She is the best teacher I've ever had this quarter. This is my first time to study Geography. She didn't just teach you the textbook stuffs, but also teach you how to observe things around our world. She organized her lectures very well, materials are easy to understand. She gave STUDY GUIDE before your midterm and exam. I finally got A+. Recommend
She seemed very difficult the first week but ended up being one of my favorite Geo teachers I've ever had. Her class is not impossible by any means but it's not a cake walk either. The HW's are very important. There are only 3 but they are big packets, Ace all those and the tests should come easily to you. Definitely recommend her, very caring lady
She was my professor during my first quarter, and I enjoyed her class. I kept track of my points and saw I was going to fail- Got a C, probably because of extra effort on final exam. Good teacher, excited subject. Is easy to understand.
Going to class and taking great notes will solve all your problems in the class. She has great lectures, they will help with doing the homework packets. There are 3 and they are big but they are easy to do with the notes. Study guides are very helpful. I took the group study course and it made the class even easier. Highly recommend it she is great
She's a very good teacher. Notes everyday but she explains better than the book. Her texts are hard if you don't study!
Professor Fernandez is by far the best lecturer I have ever encountered. She is incredibly helpful and her lectures are informative and helpful in allowing you to do well in her class. Connect with her. ASK FOR HELP. If you do, you will succeed. Be a good student. That's all she wants.
Prof Purba Fernandez is one of the best instructors in De Anza. Her lectures are very clear. She is extremely passionate about geography and is very helpful. Her class shouldn't be hard as long as you put in the effort. Definitely recommended!
she tries to teach students by having them learn on their own . When I would ask her a question she would never tell me if it is right or wrong.she makes students read every night. If you love to read then this is the class for you.
She is a decent teacher but I found that she tended to be harder on students she doesn't like. You can do everything in your power to get and A but if she doesn't like you, you're in for a very rough quarter.
Very interesting class. I never expects myself to be interested in physical geography prior to this class
1. Her lecture are BORING AF. 2. Don't waste your money on the book, better off using Google. 3. Her test are easy AF as long as you study the things listed on study guide.
She is the BEST. Such a caring and consistent professor. Her class is a lot of studying, but it is good prep for UC's and top CSU's. I have no complaints. She's such a good teacher, she went over everything that was on the tests and is VERY helpful when people have questions. Why can't all professors be like her?
I love Ms. Fernandez and her class so much! She is such a sweet and caring lady who obviously cares about the subject she teaches and the students she's teaching. She is always willing to help, answer questions, and explain topics in multiple ways. This class is information-packed but she organizes all of the facts in an easy-to-understand way.
I would be honest that sometimes her lectures make me sleepy. BUT she is such a nice and caring professor. Whenever you need, she is there to help. Don't hesitate to ask questions. She'll inspire you a lot. Although I had to work hard to prepare for the exam, I still appreciate it that she gives us credit for everything we do, and I learnt a lot!
Profesor P is an awesome educator. She is very straight forward and extremely clear. Sometimes she can get rather boring, but her lectures are very insightful and filled with information. Her midterms require a lot of writing, but you will do just fine if you study and take proper notes. 3 assignments for the class that requires writing as well.
I took this class expecting it to be an easy GE but it definitely was not. There are 3 assignments (more like essays that get progressively more detailed) 2 tests and a final. Also 6 in class assignments & she gives up to 25 points EC. Her class won't be hard if you study in advance, visit office hours, take thorough notes, & pay attention.
Best teacher i have had at de anza. I learned so much from this course. She assigns 3 major assignments which require time and hard work but her lectures and textbook help a lot. The midterms are pretty straight forward, just be sure to study your notes! Do not miss class because every day is a new topic and her notes are crucial for success.
Professor Fernandez is an outstanding instructor. She is extremely inspirational and kind, but will also be strict and give you very real constructive criticism. You can tell that she teaches because she loves geography and her students. She has been an incredible mentor in and outside the classroom. She inspired me to major in geography. :)
Professor Fernandez is an amazing teacher. Her lectures are well planned and she basically writes out all content and diagrams you need to study as she lectures. As long as you show up, follow along, copy the notes you will do great.
Purba, hardest geo teacher EVER. Im an A student, but I have taken her twice and have failed both times. I did all she asked, which was three major assignments and studied rigorously for her exams. In return I received an F. It doesn't matter what you do in this class, you will NOT PASS!! if you want to ruin ur GPA, then take this class.
The worst teacher I have ever been tough by. This geography class isn't hard on its self, it's the professors grading method. She dissects every single answer you write down. Forgot something? Too bad minus points for you and don't get too creative or you'll lose points without a doubt. She needs to lighten up. No grading curb either. GPA killer.
A very tough grader. 2 long semi-hard midterms. She would deduct points for not answering the way she wanted on written answer questions and her directions can be unclear. There are pop quizzes which kills grades. That being said you need to be consistently studying for her class. Study better than a med student if you want an A. Intimidating class
To be honest, I just added the class for my GE. However, I was intrigue by Prof's enthusiasm and knowledge. Yes, you have to work more than other Geo classes do, but you get many new info thou. This is college, and I dont think we just come here to get easy A without doing nothing. Take notes(major source for tests and final), follow the guideline.
How to get A+ in this class: 1) Visit the professor during her officer hours to let her proof-read your essay few days before they are due. 2) Answer all your questions in the study guide based on the note written from the lecture. THEN, visit her during office hours so she can reaffirm/clarify it for you. Write what she told you! Then A+!
She is a fantastic teacher. Her teaching style is the reason I got an A+ in the class, she made me care about such mundane things like wind. She makes it one hell of an exciting class and I highly recommend her
HELLA HARD
Tough but caring professor. Thoroughly enjoyed her class. Attending every lecture is important, the material builds on one another. Must know material well to answer short essay questions on assignments and exams. As long as you take good notes, pop quizzes are easy. Offers several opportunities for extra credit. Learned a lot in her class!
Purba rocks! Her teaching style pertains to all types of learners. She uses videos, pictures, models, hand motions, drawings, all to interestingly teach you the material. She takes notes on the board and draws, and you just copy down what she writes. Super easy to follow along. Very organized. She makes the topic come alive. Take her class!!!
I really appreciate the fact that she has structure. Every class, she writes the agenda on the board. It is very clear as to what we will be learning that day. The way to explains the material is very clear and uses universal terms and language. I feel like I have learned a lot from this class. She offers 20 points worth of extra credit.
Fernandez was by far the best professor who literally does a phenomenal job at every bit of her teaching a learning system. She Was the sweets thing ever! she is very organized and always top on grading. you have a question?she will break it down for u during or after class. extra credits? tons! It was such an honer to be her Student!!!!!!
she teaches the material in the most interesting ways, and is guaranteed to always have your attention. Very nice and polite teacher, she is very organised and is on top of grading. Not much HW other than The Hw packets due every 3-4 weeks. do the study guide questions on course booklet, and tests will be a piece of cake.
Professor Fernandez is by far was one of my favorite professors. She is kind, accessible outside of class, and willing to explain and help you with homework or anything you are confused about. I have to give her credit for her amazing lectures that are very clear. Her study guides for exams are gold! Complete it and you will get an A on the test.
A lot of work but she's probably the best geography teacher at De Anza.
seems strict, but very passionate about the subject. 3 big hw assignments, 3 exams including final, quizzes throughout. possible to get an A, just don't make a lot of mistakes. ec available.
Very good Teacher. explains everything on details, but goes very fast sometimes. gives you good feedback and always keeps you aware of what tests quizzes or homework are coming up
Totally suggesting to take her class. She is a great lecturer, gives homework that helps so much with exam, never misses a break, uses all the visual objects. She always takes questions in class and after class. She is really trying to help. Attendance is not mandatory but you don't want to miss once a week quizzes.
The best professor on the planet. She cares about her students and what they're learning. She's genuinely passionate about and well-educated on the topic of geography, and makes sure to explain things in terms that we'll understand. Only gives exams, some quizzes that you do with partners, and no papers. She's a gem <3
her lectures were easy to understand, she goes over the test/hw content during them so don't skip. take good notes b/c it may be difficult to recall exact processes. she randomly gives graded assignments during class so make sure to show up if you want full points. hw is due at the end of each unit, gives exact study guides for tests
A very good geography teacher. She is clear on everything she teaches, you can rely on your notes to study. She is always available to assist you on hw and test prep. You can get away with not having the book.
Solid choice. Her lectures are easy to understand as long as you attend the classes. Three homework, several pop quiz (but she lets you open book and work with partners), three exams. Stick to her study guide, it's extraordinary helpful. You do need to put time into it though, no easy As. Also provide 40ish extra credit chances. Overall amazing.
Wouldnt recommend this professor. I found her to be rude and almost wishing for the worst for her students (like she wanted people to fail). Instead of being encouraging she made me feel like a failure. Plan on taking extensive notes because if you dont use her wording in answers you will be marked off many points.
The test is very hard. All the question is essay or short answer. No multiple choice. It is difficult to get full point for every questions. Although you spend a lot of time to this class, you still can not get A.
You will feel like you don't deserve the grade you'll get. You'll regret this class.
I would definitely take her class again, even with the regular assignments. She gives you every opportunity to succeed with assignments/tests on exactly what she lectures/in the textbook/and study guide. She's very composed and serious but she is clearly passionate about the subject. Sometimes she wears hurricane picture t-shirts.
Professor Fernandez really does everything possible to help her students succeed: she provides detailed study guides for each exam and offers plenty plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Her lectures are engaging and informative; she uses lots of diagrams and drawings in her lectures to make concepts easier to understand.
I LOVED this class. This class wasn't that difficult for me, but a lot of people did struggle. My #1 tip is to take notes. Write down EVERYTHING she writes down. Take notes as she speaks. Look through the textbook for clarification. You can pass the class. She gives a detailed study guide for every test. Nothing is a surprise. Straight to the point
very nice and if you do the homework you will pass
One of the sweetest professors I've ever met. Super kind and helpful if you asked questions. Attending lectures is the most important. If you can take good notes on lectures, you'll be set for tests and hw. Her lectures are amazing in general so you should be good in any case.
Super nice professor! Took her for fall 2020. There's a chapter quiz each week and three written assignments and answers can be found in her lectures. Her exams are multiple choice and has a written section, but she gives you the prompts in the study guide. She sends you emails encouraging you when you get As on your exams!
Professor Fernandez is a Real Professor. Because she will not only teach you exactly what you need to know in order to pass the class but she will also listen to what you have to say and gives you all of the resources in order for you to pass the class. And she is so nice
I strongly advise not taking this class. She just uploads the textbooks a few times before forcing you to buy them. Even if you explain things properly, she extremely finicky and will take off points for not wording things her way says things like "you clearly don't understand this and other disparaging comments Chose any other GE.
VERY HARD GRADER. If you dont write your answer in full sentence or the way she wants it she takes away points. Atleast she gives templete on how she wants you to write things. She made the class really hard.
The class was manageable and interesting. There were weekly assigned chapters and an untimed quiz (2 tries). Also a couple of writing assignments with 9-15 questions, based on what we were learning. Exams had multiple choice/essay questions, with sufficient time provided (and a study guide). Do the work, understand the material, and you'll do well.
FYI: I dropped this class after reviewing her course materials -- like guy below said, not worth it, pick another GE. Not a bulletpoint gal, expect full sentences to fluff your word count to her easy but silly questions. I enjoy Geography and all related but Purba was not who I'd like to "learn" from.
I really enjoyed this class. It was challenging in the best way. Assignment grades came back quick and always had relevant feedback. They never took me too long, and were always fun to do. I learned a lot, and the quiz questions were very thought provoking. I ended with a 96% and my quiz average was a 90 or so. Culteral geography was a fun topic.
The professor was very accessible to helping people outside of class and gave very good feedback on question and answer assignments.
she is so great. If one day we don't have class, she will remind you many times and if you always check your emails, you will not forget. Her study guide is amazing, it is detailed and clear. Although exam is not very easy, after you have a great review, you will have a great mark.
Best stem professor I've ever had, engaging lectures and easy tests. I highly recommend her class!
Honestly, I was scared to take this class, but I was pleasantly surprised with this professor. She's a little bit of a tough grader on the really big assignments, but I think that's fair. If you try your best you can still excel! The other assignments consist of weekly quizzes, & discussions. She tells you exactly what to do to meet her standards!
first met pure when she did a De Anza Village movie screening event on "chasing ice". it was amazing. then I decided to notetaker for her class and learnt a lot from her. It was really fun learning from her!
This was an online/in-person class. She didn't stray off-topic during lectures, lots of material to learn. There are weekly chapter quizzes with material from the textbook that she doesn't discuss in class, but they are not timed and you get multiple attempts. She is a pretty tough grader, the class is easy to pass but pretty difficult to ace.
If you do the assignment in advance, and attend the classes, you will pass with a good grade. The first exam is the easiest one because the content for that exam is not that long. As the course progresses, the content you should study is a bit long, but if you are well prepared, studying all the questions from the study guide, you will succeed.
Wonderful instructor, lectures were great for exams and helped me understand the material, course material was understandable but can take a while to get through each week, exams built up naturally and helped students prepare for the final exams, overall great class and teacher.
going into this class especially after reading the syllabus and her class expectations I had an idea going into it that Purba Fernandez would be a hard-ass in the way she established how many times you can be absent without a good enough reason to her before you're dropped. late 1 minute to class, hasnt even taken roll yet, it's disrespectful
her class is fine, it's just her grading. all quizzes/midterms, she excepts you to know the deeper meaning of what the textbook says. like the stuff u read in the tb is not enough. multiple choice answers aren't like what u read on textbook for homework, she looks for specific analyzed detailed answers, like so hard..
94 percent or above for an A. However 4 percent extra credits offered for participating a skill workshop.exam time online section is quite tight. no limited time for weekly quiz. Chat gpt and quizlets is always your best friend
The workload isn't crazy at all, there's only one open note canvas quiz per week plus the occasional canvas discussion. She tests you on very specific details in the textbook though so make sure you read carefully instead of skimming through. Its also very hard to get full points on the writing assignments, she will doc points for very minor things
