Great professor - fairly easy tests. Concepts are not hard to understand, and professor really cares about what she lectures about. Tests are easy if you understand the prior homework assignments.
Not the most exciting subject, but she presents it in a way that is fairly easy to comprehend. Her accent is heavy, and makes her hard to understand, but not impossible. Her tests are not hard, and the slides she uses in class cover pretty much everything she put on the tests.
Heavy accent....difficult to understand
Boring class. The professor tries to make it interactive. Her lectures are info straight from the textbook. Read the textbook and do the homework, and you'll get an A.
I really enjoyed this class. She is a great teacher and passionate about the material. While attendance is not mandatory, she does test on facts mentioned in the lecture. Lectures are online, so if you miss a class you can refer to that.
This class is a very boring class and so is the instructor. The attendance is not mandatory so you'd rather read the book and look at her slides. The tests are fairly easy and are given directly out of the homework assignments. Make sure you submit everything on time and you should do fine.
Great professor! She provided extra time outside of class for concepts that I did not understand clearly.
This class is pretty boring. Exams, assignments and projects are easy as long as you study the lectures.
A truly high quality professor. All the CS professors I have had freshman year have been of poor quality (for CSI and CSII). Dr. Kumar is unusually helpful and passionate about the material.
She's a good professor and is dedicated to what she's doing. Class can get pretty boring, but she does give the occasional quiz worth +1 on your next exam. Her PowerPoints are awesome, and available online. Homework is from the book, and most answers can be used in the back since she assigns mostly odds.
Easy subject. Professor reads from slides. Reviews and says what will be on the exam
If you're like me and take notes in class it is impossible if you take her. She goes through the slides way too fast for you to take notes. Also if you want to prepare for the Ph. D database exam this is not the professor to take since she does not go into the depth required on the early subjects that are actually on the test.
She goes too fast in class. Reads everything of power points. Semester covers 19 chapters. Don' take her. You wont learn anything useful
Great Professor! She goes fast in class since this is graduate level material. Provided lot of extra help outside of class to clear my doubts in lectures/homeworks. I would recommend her!
Nice professor. Since I work in the industry helped when she responded to my emails to answer questions.
Dr. Kumar is one of the best professors I've taken at UTD. She's knowledgable in the subject area and teaches the class really well. The lecture slides that she goes over in class and posts online are extremely helpful in studying for the tests. She's lenient in grading tests and gives a couple of bonus points for attendance. Take her class!

Professor Kumar is an excellent teacher. She uses slides while teaching and makes those slides available online for students to use while doing homework and studying. Her lectures are clear and he answers explains any questions asked. Her tests are straight forward. If you do good on homework, you will do good on test. Study the slides get an A.
Dr. Kumar did an excellent job teaching Discrete Math II. There are 3 tests worth 25% each, and HW which is worth 25%. There is a lot of material to cover with just three tests, but overall the course was manageable. I liked that HW counts towards your grade. Even though notes are provided, go to class to go over more examples.
Professor Kumar is an excellent teacher. She is the best professor i had so far at UTD. She is very clear on her lectures. You actually learn in her class!! She is easy on grading.
Talented professor that makes any subject easy to understand. Well versed in the subject matter and conveys the information very well. Helpful PowerPoints, in-class activities for practice, straight forward HWs and exams, and a group project. Easy class, but you will learn a lot. Take this professor whenever you can! I highly recommend Dr. Kumar.
Professor Kumar is an amazing teacher. She has a great way of teaching and makes sure her students are on track and are understanding the material. Whenever she assigns anything, she makes sure that the grading criteria is clear. She even has reviews to help the students understand what the test will be like. She is very knowledgeable and I enjoyed
Just write write write with no explanation. Class is boring as the professor would write the whole board, remove and rewrite multiple times during lecture.
Dr. Kumar did an excellent job with the course. There are only a few assignments, two closed-book essay exams, and a group project. This class ties all the other SE upper-level courses together, and I learned a lot. The tests could be difficult if you do not study, as there are 100s of slides the material comes from. Overall great class!
Great professor. Lectures are clear and she always posts the slides online after every class. Tests are on the long side, but they are fair and easy if you've prepared. She's also light on the homework compared to other discrete math professors.
Pushpa is an amazing professor and by far the best professor I've had at UTD. I would always go to her office hours before the exam if there was anything i didn't understand, should would gladly sit there with me and go through example problems. Just pay attention in class and study her power points for an A.
The slides that she posts are pretty good, so if you study those, you should do well on the exams.
Dr. Kumar is great for SE 3306. Just focus on her PowerPoints and what's on the homework and you should be fine. Exams are long (require a lot of writing) , but are easy. She also gives extra credit on the exams in the form of test corrections She does go fast in lectures though so you don't have time to take notes. Just look over her slides.
awesome professor! literally the easiest class ever. her exams are easier than the hw, which is already easy to begin with. she clearly tells you what you have to know. also lets you make up for what you missed on the exams for extra points, as well as extra points from in class pop quizzes.
She was a very good professor and gave very informative lectures. You are graded on homework and exams, which are very easy if you go to class and pay attention. She clearly knows what she is talking about and is able to convey it in a very concise manner.
super easy professor. Went in having forgotten most of discrete math 1 but got out of this class with an A+. She is super easy. The first third of the semester is basically reviewing all of discrete math 1. Study slides for the exams.
easiest professor ever! and not in a bad way. she is very good at teaching you what you need to know and preparing you for exams. as someone said before, just study her slides and you should me more than okay. learned a lot.
Easy professor, but she'll teach you everything you need to know. I didn't feel inadequate at the end of the course, unlike some other professors that teach the class
Dr. Kumar is one of my favorite CS profs by far. She's knowledgeable, available, clear in what she expects, and understanding. She gave our class the opportunity to get points back on all of our exams except the final. Only complaint is she goes fast for her slides so it's hard to take notes if you do them by hand. Would definitely take again!
She's goes through her lectures pretty quickly so be ready if you're taking handwritten notes. The project for my SE 4352 class with her involved having a client stand-in come in and pitch us the requirements for a smart home system in this case. Her actual homework (project aside) was relatively simple, if I'm remembering correctly.
Professor Kumar is pretty cool. She's approachable and she doesn't throw any curveballs on her quizzes/exams, but still makes sure her students are learning. Do the homework (mostly for practice, a lot of answers are in the book) and attend her reviews. Study a decent amount and you should be fine. Also, she likes pizza a lot. Take her if you can!
Professor Kumar was a very nice professor, definitely very personable compared to the other professors I have had in ECS. Her tests are not hard at all, and she is happy to answer any questions you have about the homework, topics in the lectures, etc. There are pop quizzes, but they are really only for extra credit.
Pushpa is one of the most organized professors i have ever had at UTD. Her class may be boring at times but she cares about teaching the topic. The slides are very well done. To get an A all you need to do is show up to class once in a while, and read the slides. There are only 6 hws, 2 exams, and one big project. Very doable class
Kumars a great professor. Her classes aren't especially hard but I always feel like I walked away with something useful and practical after taking one of her classes. The best part is her free response tests which she is forgiving on/not terribly rigid.
Dr. Kumar is well accomplished, but not the best at teaching. She goes over slides word for word, and does very few in-class examples. The ones she does and scattered and difficult to takes notes on. Homeworks take a long time, but group project is not too bad. She explains better, if asked. Gives pop quizzes for extra credits.
Reads off slides the whole lecture, hardly uses white board, and really hard to stay focused. Homeworks are book problems and are really long, but not that hard. She gives occasional in class participation quizzes for points on test. For tests, cram the slides, and watched related YouTube videos. Group project is easy, so long as you start early.
She is a fantastic professor. Though software architecture is not the most captivating of subjects, it is important, and she did her best to make the class as engaging as possible. The project was unique and helped us apply the skills we learned in class to a practical real-world application.
Prof. Kumar is a solid choice if you want to take her for anything she teaches. Her lectures can be pretty dry, but she is a very caring professor and will definitely be there if you need her. The material of this class in particular isn't difficult, and she gives good examples to complement the slides. She has quizzes as extra credit for exams.
A respectable and traditional styled professor but quite frankly overrated. She is a nice lady but doesn't do much to make the class captivating for the students. She reads straight off power points and does random pop quizzes to enforce learning. Test reviews are consist of her telling you to reread chapters. Lectures are practically audiobooks.
Prof. Kumar is a solid choice for database; her lectures are not bad and she does in-class exercises sometimes. Test reviews aren't very useful, and exams are okay as long as you study everything in depth. It's important to not fall behind in this class though, as the lectures will begin to pile on if so.
Professor Kumar gives lots of examples in class and demonstrates problems well. She helps her students a lot and is really caring. I would advise people to be prepared for class and look over the powerpoints. Exam reviews are useful so try to attend those. Overall, a solid choice!
Awful class. Especially online. The professor reads off of powerpoint slides, and you really don't need to be there if everything is recorded. You probably could get a B by studying terminology from powerpoint slides and all of the assignments (no code) as practice. There's a mandatory group project (can't work alone), and it is very open-ended.
I liked the online lectures and assigned hwks. Dr. Kumar helped me a lot outside of the class. Course material was well organized and relatable. Exams were not too bad.
Dr. Kumar is an amazing professor! Course material was provided before class itself, that helped me stay on track online. There is a unique group project and I had fun completing it with my team. Homeworks and exams were reasonable.
This is the most boring class I've ever taken. She just reads off the slides in a monotone voice with no interest in the content. She obviously doesn't read the HW assignments before she posts them, a lot of them don't make sense/go along with previous assignments like they're supposed to. She puts in no effort into her class and it really shows.
Class activities were helpful to keep me engaged in the class. Team project was a lot of work, helped me learn SQL workbench. Exams were easy.
I really enjoyed Dr. Kumar's class! Exam reviews were very helpful. The presentation slides that went with the lectures were well done and easy to understand. She was available outside the classroom to help, homeworks were a hard.
The professor is very caring for her students. Lectures are a little long but she goes slow and spends time on student questions. She will change the course in the way the student wants. HW and Projects are useful, basic. Exams are doable.
Seems like this class was slapped together from a few other professors' materials. Reads directly from ppt's. Harder HW questions are just barely relevant to lectures. Cheap 'gotcha' questions on exams that you need to memorize or be careful of. Learning outcome was UI/big picture focused vs CS. Overall, feels like not much effort was put in.
Homeworks were textbook based and the lectures helped a lot in understanding the material. Exams were easy!
The course was well organized by week. Follow the lectures and complete all the homeworks on time. This helped me tremendously with taking the exams.
I just received my grade and learnt a lot from this course! Thank you Prof. Kumar.
Dr. Kumar is an excellent professor. All the relevant material was provided on eLearning. I really enjoyed this course!
Dr. Kumar isn't the best lecturer (she elaborates and scribbles on slides that have too much information already), but explains better when you ask questions. She's nice and always open to questions students may ask. Lectures are dull but HW's and group project aren't bad and interesting. Wouldn't pick as first choice but wouldn't avoid either.
Surprisingly, in this Computer Graphics course, you will learn nothing about how to use tools to make objects but only learn how to get distance from one pixel to another. You get no hands-on experience on creating computer graphics, but you are thrown a group project to use various tools to make a game, so good luck with that. Also tests are hard.
The lectures are her reading verbatim from the slides. They are not really engaging. The material is dense and theoretical. The assignments are pretty much regurgitation from the slides + sql you'll have to teach yourself. The tests cover 6-7 chapters, graded harshly, and are difficult. The group project is easy, make sure to nail the presentation.
Do well on assignments and group project. Follow the material covered in class and exams are easy! Professor works out examples in class.
Dr. Kumar is very organized and provided all the slides. I enjoyed the team project, not too hard! Homeworks cover sql problems and textbook questions.
Lectures are clear and well explained. Exams were not too hard, go through the modules and textbook. Prof. Kumar helped me outside class for the assignments and clarified concepts. Group project was hard for our team, no one had prior experience with Unity. Project presentations were easy, we were well prepared before the deadline.
I took Dr. Kumar's class by mistake, thinking it was essentially Software Engineering II, but I was not disappointed. Looking back on some of the projects I've worked on, I could see clear distinctions between those that had succeeded and those that had not. The content was invaluable, and Dr. Kumar taught it in an interesting and engaging manner.
The lectures were to the point and engaging! The class activities kept me on track with the course material. I learnt a lot through the term project creating a 3D game. Good class overall. Thank you Dr. Kumar!
Solid professor. She went over the concepts pretty well. Coding homework's were not that hard but sometimes you over think on them. Sometimes felt she went a bit fast on some stuff but if you pay attention you will do well. For test just get familiar with concepts and you will do well. Project was open ended and just have fun with it.
I think people are misinterpreting nice for a good professor. She is a very nice person and sweet when you need question clarified, which I appreciate. However, when it comes to being a good professor, she is average. She just regurgitates slides and gives you assignments. Study sessions for exams is her telling you to read all of the slides.
The lectures are really boring, she reads off of them. She clarifies the concept if you ask questions. The exams have a lot of material on them, she allowed a cheat sheet, but it was still a lot of material. In addition, there is a semester-long group project, where the criteria were a bit unclear.
Excellent course material. Dr. Kumar's lectures are easy to follow and comprehend. Our team started early on the group project and were able to finish on time. I enjoyed this class!
Dr. Kumar went into the details of each covered chapter and the slides were good. She was very understanding when I fell sick with covid. Project is doable, exams are hard.
solid class. didn't attend much and still got a good grade. teacher cares and content is relevant and covered well. assignments towards end are wacky. TA was terrible but probably not going to be the same for most semesters.
I really enjoyed the course especially the team project. It gave me a chance to try something new since it was open ended. The exams were fair and covered concepts taught in class. Bonus points were provided for in class activities.
I enjoyed this class and the lectures were interesting to listen to. You're allowed to use a notecard on the exams. The project is practical to the real world and you'll be able to apply what you've learned while working on it. I definitely would recommend her since she will help you learn the material that you need to know moving forward.
She's very sweet and a great teacher. Her assignments and project are not hard, just put in the time! Show up to class because you probably won't pass her exams other wise (they're not hard, but you'll be lost if you don't attend lecture). Make sure you take notes, most people don't because they think it's a blowoff but it really helped me get an A
6 hw's, 2 exams, 1 semester group project (on SQL, schema, ER diagrams). Pick good group that knows sql!! Reads off slides. Monotonous tone. Learnt off of youtube. 10 in-class assignments due at EOD. Nice, but not good teacher. NOT FIRST PICK but better than some other awful ones. One cheat sheet front and back for exam. Exam is oddly specific.
Easy exams, easy project, hw is mist
Easy exams, easy project, hw is usually 2-3 coding questions and u have a lot of time to finish them.
The open team project was nice to work on and overall I learnt a lot of new concepts in this course! The exam topics are from the material Dr. Kumar covers in class. I also found exam reviews helpful.
Dr. Kumar did an awesome job teaching this class and I enjoyed it! I also leaned Unity for the group project.
Kumar is really sweet, genuinely a good professor. The subject is a little dry, but generally the exams were straightforward from lectures and cheat sheets allowed.
Assignments and exams were pretty straightforward and no trick questions. Make sure you do well on the presentation and review the slides before the exam, and you will be set.
The course is well-organized, the professor teaches it well and sets clear expectations. Lectures are engaging, and the term project is helpful!
I enjoyed the course, clear lectures, fair exams, and you actually learn the material.
