Homework is very easy in lecture, gives you the answers and they appear on the test but the free response questions are very difficult, better be good in algebra, if you ask for help, he just tells you "very easy" making you feel dumb. Has a sense of humor but can be a challenging course
Nice guy. He tries hard to teach but slight language barrier. --Very passionate about Chemistry. STINGY grading system. Show all of your work with calculations--even the easy 'mental math', or he deducts points. All exams are composed from the homework questions.
I don't know what some people expect. Organic isn't easy. You have to do a considerable amount of work. I had no trouble understanding him in lecture.Labs were easy and fun,(If you do your prelab work. Tests weren't that bad and grading didn't seem stingy. Just do your homework and the tests shouldn't be hard. My 3rd Chem Prof & my favorite so far.
I agree with the last comment. If you do your work and be there all the time in the lab you will easily understand all the concepts. Of course if you dont read your notes even in any other class, theres no way you will not do good....He's awesome...
He is a great professor, willing to help and take his time to explain things. You have to do the homework and attend class to be able to get the concept. he also is very nice and will to go out of his way to help you out
He is nice guy, tries to make chemistry fun but overall hes not the best teacher to take if you have a hard time in chemistry. His homeworks are the answers to the test but you still have to know how to do the problems because he switches it up sometimes.
I took Dr. Qin for orgo 1&2. He is a good teacher and will go out of his way to try to help his students. If you do the homework and go to class, you'll have a very good idea about what will be on the tests! Yes, you will have to study though...
He is a professor with a passion for what he does. Makes chemistry fun. Had him for lecture and lab, Gives plenty of help. You will need to learn howmto do the math portions everything else is memorization.
He is the best Organic professor at Edison, but you have to study very hard because Organic is not easy. I am happy with his classes and learnt a lot from his lectures. Just study his ppt and do homework, you will get an A for sure. He responses very fast if you email him.His classes are always full very fast. We have 32 students in his Organic 2.
Professor Liu was very enthusiastic and helpful. There are no tests, but there are quizzes before every test. The quizzes are really easy because they are the same as the homework, but with different numbers. Doing the homework is not mandatory, but really helps with the quizzes.
Professor Qin was awesome! His workload was perfect. Come to class prepared for any prelab quizzes. Do the prelab and you will ace his quizzes. His labs are not hard at all. He is the best intro to Chem lab professor Edison has! Highly recommend. Passed his class with an A!
his grading is pretty tough he wont give partial credit. i took a test feeling confident and my grade was NOT what i expected!!!! he makes his questions a little tricky almost like if he wants you to fail the test :/ he doesnt tell you when there is a quiz or when something is expected! which i think is ridiculous. nice guy but good luck
No homework at all. Only quizzes online. He sucks at grading and he never says when hes gonna give extra credit. I personally don't like teachers that read out of power points. Most of the online quizzes are different from what he teaches in class. I', a straight A student and I would recommend someone else.
He is a very nice guy, respectful and patient. He is not too easy but if you study you can pass his class.
Very good professor, I would definitely recommend him. He responds very quickly to emails and his lectures are very clear. Study his PowerPoint and do the homework because it will help on the exams. Overall a good professor and a nice person.
Professor Qin Liu was a great professor who would make it pretty easy to follow along with the lectures. He would answer any questions the students would ask and was glad to offer help to those who need it. He would sometimes make science jokes in order to bring humor into the class and indirectly offered small recovery options through pop quizzes.
This class is misleading calling it "intro". Though not assigned, you will need to do the questions at the end of each chapter plus supplement with You Tube. I'm an "A" student and I struggled with this class. Super nice guy but the class is fairly hard. He is one of the better chemistry instructors here at FSW. You will have to work to pass.
He is a good guy and good prof. Very funny. Has a thick accent, but is very friendly and helpful. Essentially walked us through each lab before we would do it. Grade comes half from prelab quizzes and half from actual lab reports. All are simple and straightforward. Not difficult to pass if you show up and ask questions
He is by far the worst teacher I have taken at this school. He does not care to help you at all. He gives a lot of homework online and it has a tendency to close early, and he refuses to reopen it for you. He does talks too much about his personal life and rushed our final exam date so he could go on vacation.
There aren't many good chem professors so Qin is your best bet. He's a wonderful professor and doesn't wanna see you fail but this course is TOUGH. Lectures are vital to your understanding and they are often very confusing so reading is also critical. Overall, I really enjoyed him as a person but this was the hardest class I've had. *thick accent*
Doctor Qin's class was fairly straightforward, but the lectures were very boring: he lectured using horrible PowerPoint slides (Wiley). The class consisted entirely of homework and tests. Overall, the class was easy. Attendance was not mandatory.
Professor Liu was very nice& easy going. Attendance was not mandatory but every week he gives a 10 point extra credit quiz which is extremely helpful. Don't buy or rent the textbook the lecture slides are the exact same thing and he posts them for you. I also had him for lab and we never had one single test! His accent is not hard to understand
I had him for intro chem, and organic chem. I would say the he's the best professor you could take for Organic Chem in fsw. Yeah the testes was hard, and i didnt really do well on it, but he gave out a lot of extra credits, and drop the lowest test so you will pass.
They say you can't understand his "accent," but you can. He curves his final, which is optional. He tries to make chemistry jokes, which are not funny.
Liu is an overall good prof.. The course is easy as long as you put forth the effort. If you're lazy, it'll be hard to pass, but not impossible. He gives homework (30 question quizzes) on Canvas after he finishes a chapter in the lecture, and there are also tests that come around about every two weeks or so. If you need help, go to his office! :-)
I hated Chemistry until I took Organic Chemistry with Dr. Liu. I was excited to go to class, surprisingly. He gives you extra credit material at the beginning of the semester, and will give random quizzes that only help your grade (LIFE-SAVER!) All of his lectures are online. His accent is tough, but he is extremely sweet and helpful. Taking again!
Dr. Liu is an amazing professor, and comparatively to other schools, his organic chem classes seem to be much more straight forward. Even the order of topic presentation is better, more logical. Any student that has the chance to take organic with Dr. Liu should really know that s/he is very lucky. Also, you'll learn more by asking questions; I did
the final is optional if you're satisfied with your grade. He's a great teacher, would've got an A, but didn't feel like taking the final. His jokes are not funny. I understood him clearly, people use his accent as an excuse for not getting a good grade.
THE BEST CHEMISTRY TEACHER! He makes chemistry bearable! i had him both lab and lecture, his tests are a bit hard but he wants you to understand chemistry not just memorize things. he gives extra credit but you have to earn it, curves grades . his rating should be way higher than what it is. if i had the option i would take him for all chem classes
Professor Qin Liu is just awesome! He is funny and makes the material fun and easy to understand. If you don't understand something he will spend his time giving different examples and aiding you in any way possible. I took him for Summer A class and ended up with a B in both his Lab and Lecture. I'm if you put more effort an A is highly possible.
Take good notes and study for the test. 30 question homework for each chapter but the tests are based on it so try your best,
Don't miss a lab. Follow the lab manual for the quizzes and try your best they could save your grade in the end. The final exam study both the pre lab assignments (in the lab manual) and your quizzes on canvas.
Very straightforward. Powerpoints outline everything we need to know. Homework covers all of what we learn and he gives us plenty of time to complete it. He's very thoughtful and wants us to pass. Drops the lowest test score. Checks his emails & responds promptly. I appreciate him as a professor. He's funny too :)
Professor Liu is probably the most caring professor I ever had. He really cares about his students grades. If you ask for extra credit or give him suggestions to improve the class he will listen!!! I should have gotten a C but I got a B because he was so helpful! I would recommend him to anyone. This class isn't easy, but he makes it enjoyable.
I loved Professor Liu's class. He is a great professor if you apply yourself. Chemistry is difficult but he is very nice. He makes funny jokes too.
He is a very difficult and teaches very fast paste. He doesn't like to repeat him self to many times, his test are super hard and and sometimes due to his heavy accent might be a little hard to understand. Every week you have homework with 30 questions very intense homework, if chemistry or math is your weakness I wish you good luck.
He is difficult but really simple. If you pay attention from the beginning and try to study on your own you'll pass, trust me. What helped me the most is watching Youtube videos online on topics that I didn't understand that well. Another tip, for his exams, study the homework quizzes, they're based on that.
Professor Qin is probably the nicest teacher I've ever had. He is really nice, funny and makes the class as easy as he possibly can. His hwk is pretty simple, tests are not too hard and he curves when needed. He also will drop your lowest test score, and offers extra credit. I would def recommend him and even take him again!
He is a nice professor kinda goofy. He does a good job about going over the material and tries to help make she you understand before moving on. He has lots of tricks to help you out and gives you what he calls a cheat sheet during tests which is a huge help. I would take him again for sure.
He should have a way higher rating. Seriously, I took Chen with diff teachers and he was by far the best! He's so nice and funny and very reasonable about hwk and tests. He also curves and drops your lowest grade. Best teacher ever
Professor Liu is the chemistry professor to take at FSW. He offers quality lectures that are interesting and is an amazing and caring professor. General Chemistry 2 requires a very large amount of studying so the class will not be easy. He does curve and offer extra credit. The people saying negative things about him are just lazy. Great guy.
Best professor ever! Took him for Intro to Chem and Chem I and planning on taking his class for Chem II, Organic Chem I and II. He is amazing, he helps all his students, always has a clear answer. I also believe she should get a higher punctuation. He is just awesome.
Took Chem 2, Orgo 1 and 2 with him. He's a great guy and the material is pretty straight forward. Most of the information for his test are on the hw and powerpoints. Everyone complaining here are just salty because the guy isn't a super hero and can't force you to learn chemistry. Its a hard class in general and he is better than most professors.
Dr. Liu was my professor for both Orgo I and II. He is fair, has a good sense of humor, and knows Chemistry well. He engages with students by asking questions and makes sure they understand the subject before he moves on to the next point. Orgo is a difficult subject and you will need to spend quality time to get a good grade in this class.
Dr. Qin was the best chem professor I've ever had. For once I was actually interested in the subject. He posts all slideshows on Canvas, plus practice quizzes and worked examples every chapter! Study those and the online quizzes and it's an easy A. Great office hours too. Extra credit jeopardy for final.
If you get chem easy, but if not yikes. He teaches very fast pace. If you're not good at math you will struggle. Tests are difficult but will drop lowest 1 there are 5 tests including final & 1 hw assign per chapter worth 10pts. You don't need the book he does all powerpoints & posts them on canvas. His lab class is SUPER easy all done in groups.
So chem 2 was dropped as a requirement for my major (Civil Engineering) 2 weeks before me graduating I have to say it was not that difficult , possibly due to the fact that I am good at math and the scientific method. Dr Liu is a good professor. He scares you by saying theres lots of calculations blah blah blah , I found the stuff straightforward
If you need Organic chemistry don't take him. He teaches very fast and doesn't like to help students. I was lucky enough that I understood what was going on in the class other wise I would have been in trouble. His test are always very hard and he lets you know that they are hard and likes to brag about that. Do your self a favor and don't take him
TEST HEAVY! Theres no equal opportunity in this class, bad test takers are doomed. Good professors understand everyone learns differently and deserves an opportunity to succeed. Not in this class. Theres no projects, hmwk or anything that could save you from a bad test score. He also crams every single thing into the lectures and speeds through.
He is alright enough as a teacher, as long as you already know chemistry. He has confusing examples, doesn't show how to solve in his slides, and is hard to follow in class. I got an A because I got help from my old high school chemistry teacher.
He is not great. If you don't already have a lot of knowledge of chemistry I do not recommend it. There are 4 tests and a final. Homework only counts for a small amount of your grade. His slides don't show you how to actually find the things he wants you to.
He is very knowledgable in the subject. Chemistry is not easy and is a lot of content for any student be ready to study and make sure your math is good before entering this class.
He is a great professor, I learn most of the material in class. Tests are straight forward, no trick questions. If you understand CHM instead of trying to memorize things you will get good grades and excellent knowledge. I took him for Organic 1 and 2, do the homework practice questions and you will do great. I highly recommend Prof. Qin
I took Professor Qins Chem 2025 & 2025L this Summer 2020. Chemistry is not one of my favorite subject. I was hesitant to sign up but I also had no other choice. Professor Qins style of online teaching helped me greatly ! He was always available to help. I got quick responses as soon as I emailed him on canvas. I finally understand chemistry.
Professor Liu is very good at making things easy to understand. The homework are quizzes with two attempts and ut tells you all the right answers on the first attempt so you really can't mess them up. There are three exams and one final. As long as you test yourself using the homework you really won't have a problem in this calss at all.
This was such an easy class! He is the type of professor that genuinely wants you to do well & he will help you out. Exams are tricky but as long as you practice with the homework problems & go over his PowerPoints, you should be fine. The quizzes are an easy A. If you need his help he will personally call you to help you out. Definitely recommend.
Orgo is VERY difficult, but he made it impossible to fail. Dr. Liu makes things easy to understand. 2 attempts on quizzes and gives answers after the 1st one. 3 exams and no final. Very understanding and allows extensions if you ask. Used Proctorio for all exams, not quizzes. Rounds the exams AND final grade (My 66 was a C). Def recommend!
EASY!! Online labs due to COVID, didn't have to do them at all. 6 labs total with Canvas quizzes based on handout questions. Final is on Proctorio, but is recycled lab quiz questions. Rounds your final grade. (My 89 became an A). Def recommend!
Very great professor!! He seems to care about his students and he wants all to learn on how we learn wether its inside of class out. So theres no attendance verification. There are study guides that are not for grades and there are very good about of hw. Tests are way better than I expected. Not really hard questions like other professors do!
I would definitely recommend taking this professor. He genuinely wants you to pass and cares. He is understanding. You have two tries on the quizzes. There are 4 exams and a final. At the end of the semester, your lowest exam grade is dropped. As long as you watch the lecture videos and powerpoints you will be fine.
Your grade is based on homework quiz each week and 4 exams with final. The homework quizzes are 2 attempts of the SAME questions and he gives you the questions to print before. Exams are Proctorio, but based off the same questions from homework. Powerpoints go along with homework and he gives you answers to most during them. Study homework!!
This lab was all online and you had one lab each week with a MAX of 5 post lab questions, that's it. The labs are based off kitchen and household supplies and are easy to follow along. There is a midterm (25 ?s) and final (14?). Both had questions from the labs. You get to use a cheat sheet for both, but they are Proctorio. Easy credit.
great professor, took both his lab + lecture and although it was very difficult at times and sometimes I had to teach myself the amount of work he gives is attainable. Lets you redo the quizzes twice wanting you to receive the highest possible grade. Very understanding and opens quizzes past due date. I ended with a 88 and he rounded my grade up.
Dr. Qin Liu is an amazing professor. Vey understanding and caring. He gives extensions and not many assignments. There are 4 fours which are proctored then one homework assignment every week. Very good teacher
If you are taking any chemistry class. He is the professor you need. Coming from someone who struggles in math chemistry is hard and involves a lot of topics to remember. His lectures are great and not boring. Exams are somewhat difficult. Make sure you study! He cares for his students and really wants everyone to pass. He is very understanding!
Best chemistry professor!! He can sometimes go pretty fast on the math chemistry part but he tries his best to explain if you ask for help. Other than that his lectures are very helpful. Study and try your best. You will not fail his class.
Great professor! Be prepared to download and take notes on lectures ahead of class, as he flies through them (he also does a lot of math quickly in his head, so have all equations written out ahead of time). Class was relatively difficult for a 2000 level, but he curves tests to make it easier.
Take him for chemistry, you won't regret it! His lectures are amazing and he explains everything so well. He is very nice and understanding. He won't let you fail, he tries his best to help everyone out. Definitely taking him for the rest of my chemistry classes.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! If you are taking any chemistry classes, take him. Homework and exams are pretty similar so definitely study those. He is super nice and caring. I would personally rate him the number one professor at FSW.
Lectures are very helpful. He can go over math problems fast at times but he tries his best to make the PowerPoints understandable. Exams can be hard so make sure you fully understand the homework, lecture slides and PRACTICE. Overall great prof. you can tell he cares for students and wants everyone to pass. He will not be the reason you fail!
Very thankful I took him for orgo 1 and 2!! You will not regret taking his class. He is a very understanding individual and he will go over things however many times you need until you understand! He wants all his students to succeed and it shows!
Going into Dr. Liu's course, I had little to no knowledge of chemistry. Dr. Liu made all concepts very easy to understand and provided numerous examples. Additionally, Dr. Liu was very accessible outside of class for questions. There was an opportunity for extra credit at the end, which can significantly boost your grade.
Amazing!!! TAKE HIM. watch the lectures and study. You will pass
Honestly not a bad professor. I feel that his materials very straight forward. I did take his class online so learning was not really as easy but if you put in the work, you will be fine. He responds back very fast and he is always willing to help. Dr. Q is awesome.
110% recommend anyone who will take Orgo to take the both orgo 1 and 2 lab with Professor Qin. He is an amazing professor and his labs are super straightforward. I took him over the summer and only had to go 3 times, 2 labs per day. Show up to every lab and you should pass the class with an A!!
I love this professor. He makes the class much easier and hes very understanding. I took him for Organic 1 and now for Organic 2. His labs are fun and super informational. As long as you show up in the labs, you will get an A. I recommend him to anyone. Make sure you actually put in the work because this class is very concept heavy
Took his online lab and it was very easy, honestly I could've gotten an a that was my fault. Only one assignment a week and they are not difficult. All tests are proctored and you need an external Webcam.
Taking this class was the worst decision I've ever made. There is barely anything he grades so if you bomb 1-2 tests your grade is catastrophically low because the homework holds practically no weight to your grade. I basically have to learn all of this in my lab class. He never responds to emails and is very short. Don't take him! He's not helpful
This professor was one of the best professors I have ever taken. If you have to do Intro to college chemistry TAKE HIM. His online lab was also really good. Everything was clearly explained and available from the beginning of the semester so that you can get ahead. His lectures were really helpful and easy to follow. He was hilarious.
Explanations were easy to follow, dumbed things down a lot, really cared if students understood understood material. I really really really recommend him!!! His quizzes and tests are just like the homework, with a formula sheet provided. As long as u pay attention n try u should have no problem passing.
Amazing professor, very organized which I love and cares if his students understand the material. You definitely have to study a lot, and the grades are very test heavy. AKA Study hard for tests, homework's are just like the test. I studied my finished homework's for the exams and never got below a 83 (besides the final).
- will not respond to emails - makes sly/conceding comments during class - very clear he just reads off the powerpoint and will not actually teach - don't bother getting help outside of class he will just refer you to the homework
To the students who are considering taking him don't. Some reviews say that he answers emails which is not true at all. I had to send him multiple emails to get a response. In which he was rude. Maybe it was bad semester for him but he was like this during every class. He also constantly laughs at you during the lessons instead of just helping.
In my whole undergraduate career, Dr. Qin Liu was definitely my favorite professor. He was tough yet gave ample practice and made learning a typically hard subject (Organic Chem) fun and interesting! He provides practice exams that are relative to what will be seen on test day and lectures interactively with jokes sprinkled in. Hands down the best!
The class itself was a bit difficult, but Professor Liu was always willing to answer any questions I had. He is an understanding professor who wants to make sure his students succeed. Highly recommend!
Prof. Liu is passionate about chemistry, the class is difficult no matter what, but compared to all my friends that took other professors, my class was definitely the easiest and I reaped the most. I took him for Intro Chem + Lab, Chem 1, and now Chem 2. The class is hard but he made it as easy as possible. I would take him for all my chem classes.
The easiest lab I have ever taken, only one assignment a week and they were kitchen experiments, with only around 5 post-lab questions that were really easy to answer. The midterm and final were straightforward and not difficult. If you are thinking of anyone else for lab, stop and take Prof. Liu. You will not regret it!
If you wanna take a lab that is easy? Professor Qin is the go to. The labs are straightforward and can be done within 25 minutes at most, with one lab that takes 3 days (easy). The post lab questions and data are very easy to do with usually 2-5 questions. I feel that he cares more about you doing the lab than actually getting the correct results.
Not a hard class but I found the presentations and study guides difficult to understand. Exams are weighed heavily so make sure to study.
AWESOME professor- amazing at lectures and tries his hardest to make a hard subject easier. Very few light and easy assignments that relate to the coursework and allow you to focus on the subject and still learn. Super kind and very funny, but just an amazing teacher, very understanding as well. Excused some work when I could not turn it in.
Dr. liu is an easy person talk to. His lecture, sheetcheat, homework are basic. All test/quiz are 100% from his homework and lecture notes. He just lecture and doesn't go in-depth. Funny person. Doing research with him was an amazing experiences. Going to his office hour were good and helpful.
I was new to chemistry and wanted to take this to have a better understanding of chemistry and this professor made it easy to understand and learn. The exams are heavy on your grade so study for them and the homework is pretty simple if you do the work and learn. Overall a great professor for an online class.
This Lab course is easy. Easy labs and simple instructions and the exams are based on the labs you've done and only really need to be reviewed and studied. As long as you genuinely do the labs and work you will pass this class. Don't procrastinate as you will have (chem2025) and most of the time labs will be due with homework/Exams from that class.
This was my first time taking chemistry. Assignments and exams were straight forward. I would definitely recommend others this professor.
