obviously these people aren't actually in Prof. Yangs' class. His teaching style is easy to follow,to the point and extremely helpful. lets face it, only 30% of math 110/116 students pass in any given class, but having a prof like yang is the difference.

It took a while to get used to his accent: dereetoo=derivative and leem=limit. He doesn't explain very well and the exams were tougher than the textbook questions, but not impossible. Don't fall behind or you will get lost.

Hard as hell. Knows his stuff. Tests are difficult, and his speech is hard to understand and get used to. Knows a lot about math though, and is quite helpful in taking requests about explaining stuff again, or whatever. Tests were hard as heck, with "surprise" (uncovered) material on them.

the class was so easy. his tests were straight from his examples, and i don't see any problem in getting 100 in the class. he's a really good prof, probably one of my favourites. people says it's hard, but that's only because they haven't studied.

Yang knows his stuff. His tests are straight from his examples and it is ridiculously easy to get a high mark in his class. You have to take calculus from this man if you can. You will not regret it.

Professor Yang is one of the best math prof's that you can get. Test questions are straight from his notes and it's so easy to get 100. Do your work, understand your calculus and you'll be fine.

Mr. Yang tries to be helpful but his ability to simplify concepts is not great. You have to do a lot of self-teaching in his class. He has a thick accent which sucks (at first)! He's very friendly though and welcomes questions.

He's a really nice guy, but too smart for the majority. I may be one of the "stupids" but despite his eagerness to help, he rarely does. One of those guys who doesn't understand how people don't get math. Can't help me very much with learning.

took an easy class and turned it into a very difficult class. Very hard to understand accent and often does not understand when students ask a basic question. He does not know how to explain himself although he knows the material very well. If possible try and take class from another prof.

There is a slight language barrier, liek I didn't know what he was trying to spit out. If you walk and see Quinde standing at the front of the room, turn around and walk out, if he is the only section, then phone parents ask for an extra 500 because thats how much tutoring you will need. If you still fail the class, organize a team donkey punch!!

wow, talk about discrimination! some of you guys need to give your head a shake. This class is tremendously easy-3/4 of it has been high school math. If you think he's bad, try taking some other math courses where the profs speak FLUENT english, but are AWFUL teachers. Yang cares for the students and reminds you guys to practice each class.

This has nothing to do with discrimination - fact is, we pay a lot of money to take these classes and deserve to understand what the prof is saying! I agree that he's a nice guy and cares about the students, but come on! The U of S math department is as much to blame for sending him in without a textbook for us to refer to when we can't understand.

Ok ya, he has a strong accent but makes up for it in his genuine wish for U to succeed. For those that said that tests covered material not covered in class, U obviously didnt show up to all his classes. Most of the test questions were straight out of the notes. If you needed a tutor U must be pretty stupid, dont blame the proff. He rocks.

Quinde! This guy is absolutely hilarious, and this class with him is stupidishly easy! Seriously, if you do bad on a midterm, you can go and talk to him and he wont count the mark. No other teacher does that. He actually asked our class what we want on the final!!! His final questions were the EXACT questions on his practice. Easy 95+ guaranteed!!!

I'm not dumb, but Yang made math about as hard as it could possible be. There is a DEFINATE language barrier, and it seems that at times he is unable to simplify what he is trying to teach you. If you are preprofessional, do not take this class. Nice guy, but it took me the whole term to figure out he was saying "mathematics" not "mastmatichaos".

Can't speak english worth a damn! I've had a lot of profs who have bad english skills, but she tops them all. Avoid classes taught by this prof. Teaches entirely with powerpoint too (something I've always disliked).

If you go to class often you will be able to understand what he says. Only got lost at the end with trying to read tables. Was not a bad class and was taught by someone who knows their ****! He had 2 masters and a doctorate.

nice man, awful prof, but he does try. basically a self-taught class. it's more his inability to explain things than the language barrier. After this class, I have gone from having calculus as my all-time fave class to absolutely detesting it. class averages are very low for this class. all I can say is thank you for the curve!

He has an incredible ability of making very simple concepts extremely difficult and hard to understand. The final, worth 60%, also was way harder then anything we did previously in the class, containing questions that we did not learn about at all! He is also a little hard to understand as he has a strong accent.

Absolutely ridiculous.Class average for 2 tests was approx 40% before he curved it up to 59.Yet the final was even harder than the exams! He CANNOT explain easy math concepts. This is a self-taught class. All I can say is thank-you curve and no thank-you Yang!

Prof Qingde Yang is completely incomprehensable but he is someone who really tries his utmost best to help individuals. He puts his all into his work and for those who actually do some work (instead of you lazy lot who sit and complain the whole day) you will manage to pull off a decent mark. I ended up with a straight 100% with minimal EFFORT!!!!!

I took two classes from him. He is IMPOSSIBLE to understand and is overall a terrible professor. He reads the answers to examples very fast and keep moving from one to another without even allowing us enough time to write it all down. I got good grades in both courses, thanks to the Math Help Center. Don't waste your tuition $. Choose another prof.

He isnt fluent in English. Even if he was he has very poor teaching skills. Doesnt properly explain things. Just scratches out solving math problems illegibly on the chalk board while muttering u get zis and you geta zis... and now its a very very easee. Easy class but very bad prof he should not me teaching at a Canadian university.

If you can avoid this prof I highly advice you to. He does not follow the text, is very hard to understand, does not respond to questions in class or by emails, and has really really hard tests. If you can avoid him it would be a good idea.

I dont know whats wrong with you people. Sure his accent is horrible but he can teach. The textbook is a U of S text made for the class so how can you say he doesnt follow it? Tests are multiple choice with 1 correct answer and 5-6 that are impossible to acquire. You can just trial and error until you get the correct answer.

Absolutly terrible worst prof ive had yet and i wuld put money on being the worst i will ever have!!! you cant understand the words that are commin out of his mouth, at all! goes to fast through hard examples and to slow through easy examples save your time, dont go to class just hire a tutor and you will do fine in the class.

I am not sure what all the bad comments are about. He doesn't speak perfect english, but if you listen he is a very good teacher. He has excellent examples and very clear notes, and he also posts several old exams which can be used for practice. He's not perfect of course, but he is better than most.

How many years of bad reviews does a teacher have to get before the university does something about it? Don't give me the 'that is the only one we could find'. Any 3rd year engineering student can teach this class with much better results. What a waste of money. Those who read this, fill the U of S surveys at the end of the term. He needs out.

I generally do well in school, but not in this class. I found the textbook to be very sloppy (it's not a real textbook, just a combined version of 2 books). The questions in the textbook are quite easy, but when it comes time to do assignments and exams, he asks very difficult questions. Only passed b/c he reused questions/answers, poor instructor

Its true he isnt easy to understand but math 101-110-116 and stat103 are decent classes, and easier if your good at math. A lot of people arent which explains some of his bad comments, but overall he is very helpful and understanding. His notes are organized and he offers extra material (midterms, finals, examples) that he re-uses very very often

He is definitely one of the worst prof I have ever had. He changed his terms a lot and create some on his own. It is very confusing.His thick ascent makes him extremely hard to understand and he didn't explain things clearly.Most of the time half of the class is gone/skip,bc he is so bored.I strongly recommend ppl to stay away from him if possible!

He lacks in enthusiasm, however, his accent is not THAT much of a hindrance. If you pay attention to what he is writing/reading, it is obvious what he is saying. Most of the test questions are word for word from the notes/examples. If you like math(I don't), his classes should be really easy. Go to class because he does all the solutions there.

"Math is not a spectator sport" pretty much is the first thing he will tell you. His accent is not that bad...his class lecturing is. One on One he is helpful, but again does not lecture the material well in a way that is easily understood. You can do ver well in the class just be prepared to work hard for it

This is a hard class, no question, and I wasn't going to rate until I saw that some people were a bit unfair. 1)you need to go to class, 2) he goes through examples on the board all class,YOU need to study those, 4) He posts old exams to study from. I did ok and I hadn't taken a math since highschool 10 years ago. Success depends on you.

If you are registered in this class run. I'm sure he's a good guy but I got absolutely nothing out of his lectures. After failing the first midterm horribly i went to another profs class (Walters is good), and got high 80s on the next one. If your stuck with him make sure to do all the questions in the book and go to the math help centre.

Alright people lets face it: A math prof at the U of S that speaks fluent English and can actually teach math is pretty much unheard of. I went with this prof because he believes in the bell curve, all exam questions are ones you will see in the assignments or lectures, and he will help you if you ask. You get used to the accent, don't worry.

Yang has an exceptionally notorious reputation as a 1st year Math prof to avoid. Good intentions but very poor execution. I wonder whether the lab coordinators even bother telling the math profs what's going to be tested on examinations. Horrible class but you probably need it as a prereq if you're taking it in the first place.

At first he is impossible top understand and the material is hard, but by about the 3/4 th chapter its easy. The high school review part is the hardest and the calculus part is easier. You get used to him, if you do the practice assignments and tests ( which he uses for his midterms and finals) you'll do really well! Go to the tutorials as well!

Finding a good, English-speaking math prof at the U of S is next to impossible. I went with this guy because he believes in the bell curve, he will help you outside of class, and his accent isn't THAT bad - you'll get used to it pretty quickly. Overall, you could do worse. Advice? Math Help Center, Tutors, and Calculus for Dummies!

I got 96 and my friends got 97 , 96 , 94 , 93 .. So he is definitely not as hard as most of these people say he is .. His accent is noticeable but you can still make up what he says. he is very approachable and will help you if you ask him. he also gives you practice test from past years that are very very very similar to the ones you will do i<3QY

If you read the text before the class starts you will have no problem. I read the text and did practice questions, I attended class, and all I did for studying was old exams and I landed mid 80s. He's a good prof, I would take class from him again

He is a good prof and really knows his math. His accent isn't that hard to get used to if you actually pay attention. He doesn't try to trick you on exams, and nothing on the exams is new if you've done all the homework and practice tests. Sometimes his definitions are wordy and get confusing, but they are simple concepts once you figure them out

VERY hard to understand, knows his math but can't make it clear to his students. If you have to take math 101 (switching to math 104 for 2010/11) then you have no other options for a prof. Final exam was 70 multiple questings- each had 10 options. Good Luck!

He knows what he is talking about, and he really wants his students to do well, but his accent does make it a bit hard to understand him. Do the homework he assigns and you will be fine. Our section had higher marks than the others for both midterms. The final is very very hard, don't listen when they say you don't need to memorize all the formulas

HARD CLASS. He knows his math very very well but he is extremely hard to understand and sometimes just complicates things more. USE THE TEXTBOOK, it will be your best friend. His notes really aren't that helpful, the textbook will teach you better.

Horrible teacher. Had to take the class twice and still barely passed the second time. If you are going to take his class, be sure to have a tutor to teach you on the side because the prof is no help what so ever.

I had Yang in 2009. He had a thick accent which caused me have a hard time to understand him. He was available after class for help but the times I got help, it was unsuccessful. The good thing, was his final and midterm were beyond easy. Most questions were example questions he did in class.

Avoid at costs. The only english words you will understand from him is "It's so simple." Of course it is not simple when he routinely skips steps on the sample problems he puts on the board.If your not a math whiz get a tutor or find a different prof.

Wonderful professor. Really makes an effort to make sure his students understand.I had no difficulty understanding Dr. Yang. He has an accent, but his English is very good and explanations very clear. He follows the text exactly; there are no surprises on his tests. If Math is not your area, a tutor is recommended, as would be for any math class.

Very poor teaching skills and organization. You can tell he knows the content, but he doesn't know how to convey it properly. Often seemed nervous and frequently stuttered over his words and made mistakes when doing his own example questions. Very bland speaker and difficult to focus on. I will be requiring a tutor for the final.

I had a good tutor... and I still could not understand the material that this prof gave us. I was hoping for a math professor who would explain concepts, or re-touch... but this is terrible. I will most likely be retaking this course next term :( I recommend you know the material well before taking this class.

Really hard to understand. He usually went over class time and ran out of time to give the class a review session before our final. His examples were hard to follow. However, he does post everything online as well as old midterms and final exams. I pretty much had to learn everything at home by myself.

Would take again

Took the spring Math 100 and he was great!! Can understand him just fine, makes himself as clear as he can and explains how to do the math with multiple examples. If you struggle with math like myself, I still recommend a tutor as there's a lot to go over. He allows cheat sheets & calculator and gives out old tests for examples :)

Wouldn't take again

Talks about Math 116 a lot. Constantly tells us we need to spend all our time practicing math because we're weak in math. Took me an entire day to realize when he said "joo" he meant "rule". DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER. I worked and took this class and barely passed. It's extremely time consuming and fast paced.

He was always in his office after hours and I went to see him for help more than once! The material was easy as long as you don't overthink it. Practice a lot and you'll be fine. His accent is thick but it doesn't affect the lecture that much.

I had him both for Math 110 and for Math 116. It was difficult to understand his verbal explanations due to a language barrier. However, he gave excellent notes which helped me master the material.

I had this prof for Math 264. Showed up to the first week of classes, realized he is very difficult to understand and never went again. I read the textbook at home to learn all the concepts. If I didn't understand something, he was very accessible during his office hours. He is a very inconsistent grader.

His accent is thick and all he does in class is examples--He expected us to know the material before he went over it. Frequently goes over time, and is hard to understand.

He is great! he has an accent, but is very understandable! You can tell he loves to teach stats and just wants everyone to understand. Its a good idea to keep up with the optional homework assignments and make sure you understand because if you fall behind and don't understand 1 thing, it will be harder to understand the next thing!

nice guy. all he wants is for his students to do well and is really passionate about statistics. he does have a thick accent which makes it hard to understand at times but he is a very nice instructor

Dr. Yang's accent is pretty tough to understand, but is manageable. He definitely enjoys what he does, is good at it, and cares about his students. He mostly just does examples in class, so you'll have to learn and practice on your own. Overall, very fair grader and posts great resources online like past midterms, all slides and practice problems

I really didn't like this course. I could barley understand the prof and he moved way too quick. I was the type of person to do really good in math and enjoyed it, but I did not do good in this class whatsoever. The outcomes were interesting, but I couldn't fully understand what was being taught.

really really disliked this class. I coulnt understand what was going on and felt like i left the class even more confused than i had been when i first walked in. Tests are fairly hard (but i could just be stupid). Overall, worse class I've ever taken.

While you do need to be there for lectures in order to understand the content (I found, anyway), he does explain things well. Hes a super sweet person, and made statistics easy to understand and interesting. Somewhat thick accent, but writes everything on the slides or on a whiteboard, so you can decipher everything well enough. Would take again.

Lectures are pretty dull and he tends to over acknowledge minute details. Make the effort to show up, otherwise its hard to tell if you are doing things correctly. Overall the Quingde is a statistics-loving lad. I hope you have the opportunity to see the most contented version him on Pi Day (he wears a dope Pi shirt).

he provides slides with important examples all explained in classes and labs. He is very helpful with assignments and other problems if you approach him. overall, great prof if you can get his accent, maybe will take 2/3 classes. be prepared to complete assignments on time, be responsible and you will get a good grade.

Pretty thick accent, but you catch on quickly. Lots of his examples, especially the ones he does the day before an exam, are often on the exam. Has lots of examples on his slides which are very helpful

Great prof I love his teaching style and i bet his class average is atleast 20% higher than other profs , even thou u need to adapt his accent for a couple classes. but it worth well for the extra knowledge and good gradesyou gain from his class :)

Professor Yang provides a simple learning experience and makes it aware of what is required of students. His lectures often jump around a lot but they are relatively easy to follow. Weekly quizzes handed back quickly.

I feel like people our giving him a bad wrap, I took the 3 week summer session and it was hell but not because of the prof, he does tons of examples on the board, and also answers everyone's questions, his English is lacking but it is a math class so that did not really seem to make a difference , he puts in the work so you have to too!

Takes about a fortnight to reply to emails. Online lectures were poorly put together. We started with 6 assignments to be done throughout the course and by the end of the course we only did 5? He never explained why he dropped an assignment. He might be better in person but taking an online class with him was a struggle all the way through.

Professor Yang at the time did not post his lecture slides, so if you missed class, you'd be asking someone for the notes. Each lecture he would go through problems that directly related to the assignments and exams. His chalkboard work is quite quick, and I was caught a couple times scrambling to write before he erased the examples. Fun class!

Professor Yang was extremely hard to understand with his accent. Watching his lectures was extremely difficult to learn because I couldn't understand him and he skipped steps when he was teaching you new concepts. If you ever email him you would be lucky if you ever heard back from him. I would recommend taking this class with a different prof.

Qingde Yang's class is very straight forward and easy as long as you pay attention and give the assignments a solid effort. With10 submissions on every assignment and 3 submissions on every test its easy to correct your mistakes and get a good mark. His recorded lectures are usually well explained and if you have any questions he replies quickly

As long as you keep up with the weekly assignments and do the questions in the textbook, you'll be fine. Prof is very understanding and willing to help and work with students. No lectures, so it's up to you to stay on track.

This professor was the worst prof I have ever experienced. His thick accent made him unable to follow in class, he showed up late to many lectures wasting my time, and doesn't teach the material in a way that can be followed. If you don't already understand math when you are in his class then get out, because he will not teach you anything.

Professor Yang is amazing and genuinely wants his students to understand math! His midterms, assignments and final are easy. All you gotta do is only practice the assignments(worth 20% and easy 100). He is amazing and very flexible with extensions for assignments.Always open to answer questions!!!

He's a chill professor who seems to genuinely enjoy his job of teaching and mathematics, compared to other professors who always seem tired or irritable. He has a bit of an accent but it's nothing incomprehensible. He also puts emphasis on practice and examples which help a lot.

Although his accent takes a couple of lectures to get accustomed to, the prof goes through problems in detail to make sure you understand the entire process. He was always available to clarify questions I had about the material. Hardly anyone would show up to lectures though and then would complain about their low marks on midterms

His accent is easily understandable, don't worry. Everything was open book, which made things really easy. He teaches super well, and the slides are very well constructed. He posts lectures online too. Never once needed to use the textbook as his lectures were just better. My only issue was the TA's marking certain assignments harshly.

I took detailed notes during his lectures, but his thick accent made it challenging to grasp the mathematical concepts he was explaining. His labs provided useful practice problems, but the lectures were largely ineffective due to the accent barrier. I only passed by hiring a private tutor to help me understand the material.

Professor Yang was the worst Professor I had this year. I took his stats class over summer. He used Lawrence Changs text book as well as Lawrence Changs lecture videos. He does not care He provided zero practice problems and was unresponsive with emails. You are on your own, so if you struggle with math, this is not the Professor for you.

Great professor! Was able to pass MATH 116 with ease, and his lectures were very detailed and straight to the point! Even if you don't attend his lectures, the slides that he posts are straight to the point and has allowed me to understand the material in great detail!

Alot of people complain about his accent but i think its quite clear and easy to follow. Take advantage of his lectures as he goes over the material very well and he refers to class examples for the exam (especially the final). The midterms can be found online and is a great study tool.

Professor Yang's MATH104 class can be hit-or-miss, but with consistent effort it's quite manageable. Assignments are frequent but fair, and unstuck AI can be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Just stay on top of the work and you'll likely do well.

He has the thickest accent I've ever heard from a prof. This normally wouldn't be an issue but when your teaching university math your students need to be able to make out what your saying. When you do understand what he's saying he skips steps and expects students to know certain things about subjects when most have never seen these ideas before

I took his class because I realized too late I needed calculus for my major. His lecture slides are full of typos, he is difficult to reach outside of class, and the weekly assignments are brutal. However, in the lectures he does explain the concepts pretty well, and he is clearly well equipped to teach the subject.

He was my worst prof of the semester. He was impossible to understand, and moved way too fast. His assignments are a free 20% of your grade. The final I found way tougher than his midterms, but the class honestly wasn't horrible content wise. You just had to teach it to yourself

He has absoloutley zero enthusiasm for his area of teaching, he's borderline impossible to understand due to his thick accent, and he goes into zero detail about what hes teaching and just says "know this" after every example. If your not ready to teach yourself for a whole term, I would highly recommend avoiding his class if possible.

Almost impossible to understand and speeds through all the material like he has a week to teach the whole course. Also has probably the most ridiculously high homework load I've ever had from any class, they are weekly some assignments will take you up to 10 hours to complete. DO NOT take this course unless you have to.

Thick accent but you get used to it quick, he is decent at explaining concepts in class but glosses over some parts, this term he was always a day behind but would waste time saying meaningless things. homework assignments are long, the professor Leonard and organic chemistry tutor YouTube channels will probably teach this class better for you.

Had Dr. Yang for Math 110, and while the class material was fine, his teaching style wasnt the greatest. He tends to overcomplicate topics that could be taught much easier and when hes falling beind on some lectures, he tends to speed over the slides. Going to class is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED becuase you will be lost if you don't
