Knows the material and teaches very well although he can be very mean and critical of students.
mean & critical , I dont' get that impression at all. his class is enjoyable. I like going to it. He's quite funny. The material is not too too hard. The TA is good also. She does try to help at times, but sometimes she doesn't really make the effort.

Funny guy, great teacher.
Teacher is very arrogant and cruel to the students while doing their presentations. He comments on your presentation while you are in the middle of it. He is very rude. He teachs the material very well and the class isn't too hard. I needs to lighten up.
He's alright, could be critical at times but not intentionally. He's funny. Tests not hard. Its the people in the class that get on my nerves. Talk about mean, the students got the prof beat. They'll rip you up at feedback time after ur presentations.
Great Teacher!!! Only critical in an attempt to help students make better presentations. Definitly not mean!! Would recommend him to anyone.

Very laid back... disorganized due to circumstances beyond his control... will give you an assignment last minute... but no need to worry, there's no completion date (that is, unless you're graduating soon)!
Everybody that I know dislike this creature because he is very arrogant and cruel person. He has no respect for himself or others. He thinks knows it all. DO NOT TAKE HIM. VERY BAD TEACHER AND RUDE PERSON.
This is the most brillant course I have ever taking at boring old NJIT. We saw hundreds of Sci-Fi clips during the course and related them to building systems. Way fun and useful.
All of us thought this course was a lot of fun. At first it was all a bit strange seeing old and new sci-fi movies and relating them to building computer systems. Very interesting research read and presented.
Prof really knows his stuff. Should take it if you have the chance. The whole class is agreed on this.
Excellent graduate course. Good for thinking about the future of technology. Gives a new persepective on what is possible now. Prof shows movies, and gives lots of articles to read, and really knows his stuff. Best course I have taken at NJIT
He's my Senior Project Advisor. Let me tell you, hes got his hands involoved in everything at NJIT...know the ins and out of campus politics..which gets him disorganized, bu the knows his stuff really well, and is good at delegating (a big pro in my book)

He covers what is required and is fair. He is easy to understand. Will be giving him a good rating this semester.
Very easy to understand. Lectures cover the material well and are quite clear but can be dull at times. Class was not well organized with some miscommunication between prof and his TA. (he vowed to improve this in future)
I am a geek and the course started with an couple of overview movies & telecommunication stuff. I thought at first that I was not going to learn much, but in the end I have to say it was excellent.
I love prof Jones, had him for 265 n now 485, got A's for both. Very nice, friendly, class atmosphere is relaxing and fun. He's more like a friend than a professor. We watch kool film clips and take turn doing ppt all the time. Totally recommend him. Just make sure u turn in a complete portfolio at the end and post all ur work online, u'll get A

Mean Full of himself and rude, also does not know how to teach material well.
Took IS475 and IS448 - his classes are not for idiots but interesting to experience. I got a lot out of the team work by the end of semester. Unfortunately, he expects everybody to turn up having read material and to think for themselves. Not usual for NJIT and this tends to upset the lazy. I did my work at a pretty basic level and got A's.
What can I say about Quentin, he's smart but insane, he's a man who is mad but there is a clear method to his madness. IS 247 is a requirement for a few different majors and he is the only one who teaches it so you will meet him. Not for the faint of heart, not for those who can't handle a curve ball of a class, not for those with a full schedule.
Learnt a lot about designing cool apps. Probably got more relevant stuff IN THE END from this course than any other I have taken at NJIT. Prof tries to scare students at start to get them to work and perhaps leave the course. A lot of work is required. If you want to be involved with startups and designing apps this course is a must - prof is crazy
Learnt a lot about the interaction design process. Required course for IS students but I would recommend it to CS students as well.
what ever you do, is wrong. Do not take this class unless you want to waste most of your time and get bad grade.
Mondays were a nightmare.Prof. Jones is vague,inconsistent,cynical,unstructured,MEAN and makes personal remarks as criticism. The course was a core requirement,and sounded interesting earlier.Prof Jones managed to turn it into my worst nightmares come true.NJIT, please get someone who can teach this course,or just someone who can teach
He is not suppose to teach because he doesn't know how. Makes the course worst, confusing, not interesting,and difficult than it is. He is mean and doesn't know how to talk to people, confuse about what he wants, and wonders why students are not giving him what he is expecting. Hard on grade. I do not recommend him as a professor for your sake.
All group work and weekly presentations, no tests. Critiques rather harshly even if you do a good job. He does not give much positive feedback, he believes you improve by getting critiqued with negative feedback. I would advise to come into every class ready to hear whatever you are working on sucks, but do not take it personally.

I would definitely say that the prof will do the same thing he would criticize you till the peak but these criticism are for you so as to you improve from your last effort you . get ready for more criticism..

Steer away from jones. The class content is good, but the lateness, scattered, and generally unclear method in which the professor communicates and teaches will drive you nuts up until the last day of class. Which there will be an extra session of because who knows why. The final paper requirements were delivered less than 4 days before it was due

Get ready to be critiqued by professor and students.
Listen to the lecture and every single thing he says, makes jokes so you can drift off into space. Do all the readings, work with your group (and make sure they do the work because grades seem to be off of group effort). Follow the moodle stuff and you. are. good.

Felt like this class was a waste of my time. The amount of disorganization in class and on moodle was super frustrating to get anything done. He doesn't even grade the work right away. I have no idea what's my grade going to be and its already the end of the semester.

For a class about user experience, it was ironic how the student experience for his class was so terrible. We are put into groups and have a semester long project where we have to present every week. During the presentation he constantly cuts us off, yells at us, and instead of giving us good constructive criticism he just interrupts us. TERRIBLE.

Its one of the best classes I have taken here. He was really good and make sure that you understand the subject. People who likes to learn stuffs will be able to appreciate his lectures. Others will never be able to sit in the class! Worth for the dollars I spent!

He had work outside the class that he cares more about than the actual class very confusing and never explains him self well won't recommend

Horrible, hypocritical, uncommunicative professor. Extremely confusing curriculum. He assigned a project that could directly benefit his outside "start-up". Missed every grading deadline. Expected extreme amounts of time for you to put into his class when he couldn't even put 5 minutes of his own time to fix his course on Moodle. No final grade.

Taking his class right now and it seems like the work that we are doing is mostly to benefit his startup (which sucks by the way the idea is horrible). We aren't learning that much because his feedback sucks too and this is the 8th week and nothing has been graded.
Rude, condescending, selfish, inconsiderate, indecisive, poor feedback, and unclear expected homework/presentation outcome. Time-consuming, poor communication, and timing when assigning work. He believes everyone is dedicated to his class and his class only. The semester is revolved around working weekly with your group on the same presentation.
OK. So I see all the comments below, and I get it. The man is intense. But he also isn't wrong, I think his class does well in encouraging students to be fast-paced thinkers and be ready to contribute to the conversation. As professionals, you have to be ready at all times, and that is what the professor demands. Group work all semester!
His class is not hard per se, but his feedback on your work is awful, and it's all over the place. If you present the same work two weeks in a row the feedback will be totally different. Watch "South Park - American Economics" on youtube to understand how it feels when he gives feedback. Cross your fingers and hope that the TA will teach instead
he is tough to deal with
Most frustrating professor to deal with. Expects way too much out of students and hardly gives good feedback. Anything he expects you to do one week he changes the next for no reason. Most class meetings are wasted reviewing projects instead of learning new material. If I could go back in time and take another professor I would gladly do it.
He isn't much of a teacher. He is very disorganized and it shows. He doesn't explain anything, he gives very vague directions and then grades you down when you don't do exactly what he wants. If you want help, ask the TAs and people who have taken the class before. Most of your grade is determined by helping him with his app. Read the readings.
This is the biggest joke of a Professor ever. Let me start by saying this, I wouldn't hire this guy to clean snow off my driveway. First of all his class is USELESS. Its not the class itself but it's his syllabus. Extremely disorganized. A complete waste of time. The amount of homework for every wee is just insane. You are not the priority baldy.
Pathetic. Absolutely ridiculous. Any student who gave this guy a 4 is most likely a nerd or an arsekisser. There is no way any sane individual would give this guy a descent rating. First of all, crazy amount of homework. (USELESS HOMEWORK). Its absolutely trash. Its not a homework that you would learn from but it is just absolutely USELESS.
He doesn't teach anything, he just makes examples out of the students by offering rude feedback in the form of "criticism." He doesn't realize that our lack of understanding reflects how poor his teaching ability is -- and he doesn't care. 5+ group assignments a week. Completely unreasonable and unrealistic. He gets off on making fun of your work.
I can't believe it. This guy should be jumped. 7 + Assignments for 1 week. Does this baldy really thinks that people are taking only 1 class and are unemployed? Pathetic. The amount of work is insane. Guy is completely unorganized, loser, and just can't teach.
Absolutely pathetic. The amount of homework is INSANE. Over 5 to 8 different homework assignments in JUST A WEEK. Doesn't know how to teach a thing. Just bs lectures. TA's don't do the grading on time and post insane amount of homework 3 - 4 days before class. I would give this guy a 0 rating but it's not possible.
7+ assignments in one week. This course is supposed to be ONCE A WEEK. He wants you to conduct group interviews with 5+ people and record them EVERY WEEK. Insane. This guy is crazy.
Just don't waste your time especially if you are a full time student and employed. This guy thinks that we are slave to his class.
There are plenty of reviews here. I really don't even want to waste any time reviewing this guy but I will highly suggest take some other Professor if you do not want to end up wasting 4 and a half months of your life on useless shyt.
This guy is a joke. Posting homework assignments 3 or 2 days before the due date and posting about 5 different ones. Ridiculous. His homework assignments revolve around us working for his Mobile App? There's a conflict of interest there but more importantly this guy shouldn't be calling himself a Prof. He should see himself out.
He does not know how to teach as a professor but he does know how to make students be his free laborers and work for his stupid app. 4-6 different homework assignments every week, and keep asking students to find more testers to test his App. Students only get 2-3 days to complete the assignments. Dont waste your time with him.
Save yourself the trouble and don't take this professor. You would have an easier time taking the extra class next semester with a different professor. This guy wants you to be his free laborer and user test his app for him. You're gonna get 5-10 assignments a week to complete and he wont assign them until 3 days before class.
The reviews are accurate. His rating would be lower than a 3 but if you scroll down you'll see he must've encouraged his students a few years ago to leave positive ratings on the 1st day of class. Unorganized, unreasonable, doesn't care that students are busy with other class or their personal lives. If he's the only option wait until next semester
Horrible prof. Unclear requirements, will post 10+ hw one day before its due. Has you working on his same stupid app for the last 10 years. Will berate you in front of everyone just to save face. Cowardly and useless prof. I would sue this guy for every last penny, and makes me wish I never went to NJIT. Hope this guy gets the karma he deserves.
I would highly suggest not taking this Professor at all or at any cost. We are expected to spend over 8 hours working on an application conducting interviews, completing more than 6 assignments per week, and trying to figure the course out ourselves. Disorganized and expects students to spend all their time working on his assignments.
This professor has to be the absolute worst professor I have ever taken. You are basically just a confused employee for 5 months that does a bunch of interviews for his app. You leave class or meetings a lot more confused as you entered them. This professor is extremely unorganized and you usually have to resort to speaking to the TA.
One of worst Professors I've ever had. His group project is unclear to everyone and it's been 6 weeks since we've been working on it. He expects you to meet virtually with him at 9/10pm outside class for this. He contradicts his own feedback every week. We have 6 assignments every week for this one class as if this is the only class we are taking.
You could give this man the exact same proposal on two different weeks and he will give different feedback. If you ask him to give examples to show what he would want in a proposal he will outright deflect the question. He does not give any feedback. Avoid at all costs.
Do yourself a favor and do not take this professor
god please don't take this teacher. I've been in this class for two months and I can't name you one thing that I learnt here. He just tells you to put whatever assignment we're doing into AI and tells you to turn that in. But then puts you on the spot when you don't understand something and has an insane ego.
he gives no clear directions. always cancelled class with excuses. never understood what we were doing. made us communicate in "slack" he should honestly be removed from this course. he claims he wants you to think outside of the box, yet makes us put everything into AI. he is a tough grader and will call you for it when it comes to feedback.
