Love this class! if interested in law enforcement, take this guy. His lectures are well thought and very informative. Love to go to class and never want to miss class. Hes cute too ;)
Good class...the hardest thing all semester was staying focused and not thinking about him in less clothing...
He is very passionate about his work so he makes the class interesting.
he's a great professor...very helpful...and is BEYOND gorgeous!!!!!!
Hs is the reason i am a Criminal Justice Major. I couldnt help but go to class. HE is so hot.
Really good class, tests arn't too hard either. Go to the lectures, even if it is just to look at him. He is such a hottie!!!!!
Fairly hard tests

Nice guy but really unorganized. Never could stay on a schedule. Had some interesting stories, too bad they weren't on the test though.
Tests are fairly easy, instructions on projects are fairly fuzzy. He could use some work on his organization in presenting topics, but you do get all of the info you need for tests. He is a pretty cool guy and is extremely easy on the eyes.
I failed his class because I missed too much, I retook the same class online and made an A. He is overly concerned with attendance not performance.
Tests are hard, final was easy though. Lectures were kind of unorganized, he used a lot of terms in lectures without really explaining them as well.
Such a hot professor! Very cute butt, makes the girls go to class at least! :) He is a bit vague, but other than that it was a great course!
tests are very hard! although, if you ever need help, he is always available to help. classes have no relation what so ever to the tests. have to agree with the rest of the comments, he is a cutie!!
VERY GOOD TEACHER and very handsome!!! He teaches what is relevant to everyday life. Test are a little hard but the class isnt based on just tests. Great professor!!! I'll give him an A+!
Hottie, yes, but you wont get an A because of the tests. Youll get a B if you study and read the book but hes mighty fine
Have to agree, hot but way too vague as mentioned. Be prepared to have 40% of your final grade be based on the final.
I think it would help if he were more specific with information. When you’re in the classroom, ask question even if they are silly because someone else is wishing you had. One requirement I think he needs is to have more test than the 3 he gives bec
Have to agree with the rest: very unclear... but he is always able to help you if you need it. Ask a lot of questions.
Nice guy, but he can't stay on topic. It's really hard to take notes because you don't know when he's lecturing or just talking. The tests are pretty hard, but he posts study guides that will help. Make sure to bring a towel to mop up the girls' drool.
He likes the sound of his own voice for sure. Taking notes in class is almost pointless cuz he jumps around so much. The tests are sort of difficult but are pass-able. I learned more from the book, that's for sure.
His tests are 75% book, 25% lecture and is really fair. If everyone seemed to miss one question he excludes it. He gives a great study guide before the exam, and is really clear about what you need to know. He isn't bad to look at either :)
He emphasizes the topics you need to know for the tests. The class itself is not overly hard if you STUDY and put your time in. Sometimes it's hard to take notes because he skips from topic to topic. READ THE BOOK and GO TO CLASS. Pleasing to the eye too!
Very nice but very opinionated Completly unorganized in every sense Classes make you think, tests are application Read the book and you'll be ok, but If you can't stand teachers that are unorganized and take a month to get your grades back, DONT TAKE HIM!
GOD HE'S CUTE! yeah but ahh his tests are sometimes ridiculous other than that go to class b/c he gives a lot of in class assignments that count towards the final grade.

he is generally a nice guy but his lectures are pointless so just read the book (watch out for that 1st test)read the chapters!. oh and whether or not this guy is attractive should not help his rating, since it has nothing to do with his teaching ability.
He is just way too vague with what he expects. Notes are really hard to take because he gets off topic. Not impossible though, and he is willing to give plently of extra help. Watch out for him at Uhouse keggers.. he's a fun one. Easy on the eyes too. ;)
He is unorganized. He is very vague. He gives a review but you still dont know what to expect. He babbles about off topic subjects forever. I wouldn't take him again.
IMO not a good teacher.
I didn't care for his class. He doesn't even stay focused on the points that are important.
He is extremely confusing. I guess it depends on how you learn, but I don't learn well with someone who doesn't talk about whats on the test in class. He'll have scribbles all over the board and they mean nothing. Very unorganized.
So unorganized. All he does is talk about himself. His lectures are all over the place, I have no idea what he is trying to tell us. He gave a review for tests which had nothing to do with what was actually on the tests. I will NEVER take him again. And you shouldn't either. He's a idiot!
Watkins may be vague, but if you interact with him in class, you'll get all the info you need. Undergrad test are easy as hell. Who wrote the book? Who teaches this class are questions on the test. Watkins is off the hook. Interact in the class and you'll do fine.
Very laid back and easy going.

VERY unorganized, didn't explain ideas. Treated us like we should already be experts in the material. DOES NOT answer email, and is rarely in his office if you need help. The only thing this guy has going for him is his looks! By the way, he brang his little girlfriend to class!!!
Lectures are interesting, the material (grad) was OK. He is charming and good looking, could use some self reflection though, might be in love w/ self!
diagnosis Narcissism: 1.believes that he or she is "special" & unique & can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special high status people. 2.lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of other. 3.shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes.
Does not teach what is on the tests. Even if you read all the chapters and go over the unorganized notes the test is still very unclear and difficult.
He is not nearly as bad as all of you say. He made class interesting and makes you actually think. I did not get the vibe that he was into himself. He makes you work for your grade. I reccomend taking this professor.
i dont know what kind of guy watkins is outside the classroom but inside the classroom he is a jerk. i could tell he did not like teaching this class. all he talked about besides himself was crime mapping and his graduate students. he makes his tests unnecesarilly hard and he grades papers poorly. do not take him if you can avoid it.
Hes a nice guy but he's not going to hand your grade to you. You have to work for it and invest a lot of time outside of class. Get the books for $5 at half.com It took me the entire semester to figure out what exactly he wanted. He usu. makes the final optional *TAKE IT* you will automatically get a higher grade b/c he sees that you tried.
Not an easy class, not overly hard but if computers are not your thing use caution. Not overly hard to pass this class but it requires a LOT of outside of class time doing homework.
ineffective teacher, hard to get in contact with, cool guy but not very professional. Does not take his job serious it seems, always late for class, does not follow his own syllabus schedule. Take with another teacher if you want to learn something, take him if you want the easy A.
The class takes work, but it should you are in grad school now so don't complain about reading. You can learn alot from him. He is a good guy and cares about his students. He can be hard to get ahold of, but just send emails, or spend a little time after class to talk to him.
He was a ****ing fabulous teacher. I dont know why he got any bad reviews. I loved his class to death. He was so enjoyable, funny, understanding. Awesome.
One hell of an instrutor!!!!He listens and helps you, if you need it. What the hell else could you ask for?
w/ any other professor it may be a great class...the professor doesn't care who does what for the group project so even if you get stuck with a crappy group and do all the work you all get the same grade...and there's no group evaluations...he NEVER responds to emails...is not clear on what he expects..horrible class I DON'T reccommend it
I think he was a great professor, the tests were a bit confusing. I really enjoyed his class.
I enjoyed the class but, his tests were confusing. Must read the book in order to understand the information provide to you. Constantly takes the roll to see who's in class, uses it to determine your grade.
I have taken 3 classes with him. Yeah, he makes you think analytically, but pay attention and participate. I have NEVER had a problem getting help or advice from him. He is understanding. You ppl need to realize that it is college and A's should not be just handed to you. The only hard part is figuring out what exactly hes asking for.
Not at all impressed, the way he grades the online modules is ridiculous
This guy has too many other important things to do then to be a professor....He's is two dimensional when it comes to giving out assignments, he never tells you what he wants he just gives out grades. I had him for online class and it was stressful because I never knew how to accomplish his grading methods. Overall take another professor please.
Very unorganized. Never was able to get the computers working. Not clear on what he wanted from you at all. I don't know how he graded the papers, just gave them back 3 weeks later with a number on them. The computer assignments were easy but he always graded poorly on them. Never thought so low of a professor like this before, especially a PHD.
Watkins is such a cool prof. i loved going to his class but the tests were harder than hell. i got an A but i busted my ass for it. he really wants you to absorb and KNOW the material, not just repeat it back to him. great guy, easy to talk to and laid back as hell.
He always talks to much about his life, goes off notes a lot and sometimes not clear
Nice guy outside of class, but as a professor, He is very frustrating. He knows his subject but expects a lot of self teaching. Assignments are random. If you take him, plan on frustrating assignments and exams, and plan on teaching yourself through the whole class. Plus a lot of readings and lectures that don't relate to the texts.
Do not take this prof unless you're planning on busting your ass off studying! He teaches a basic crime course as if he's teaching grad students. He doesn't respond to emails, is slow on putting up study materials and the study guides provide VERY LITTLE help on his difficult exams. I'm an A and B student and I ended up with a D in his class!
This professor is a really nice guy inside and outside of class, but he expects you to read the book before class for pop quizzes and he is very particular about essays. This class is definitely passable, but it becomes kind of hard and tedious to follow his train of thought sometimes. You do need the book for this class though!
Horrible! DO NOT TAKE HIM!His tests are nothing like the notes....you can read as much as you like and it will not help you! I am an A and B student and just barely managed to get a C in this class! You can study all you want, even though attendance is not mandatory, if you even have the slightest chance of passing YOU WILL SHOW!
Comes in late for class everytime, spends too much time talking about personal life and sports, study guide is useless, reading the book does little, he is scatterbrained and thinks it's funny when people don't understand his tests. very arrogant and condescending. He laughed at us when we said we didn't understand his test questions!!!!!!
Do not take Dr. Watkins. He teaches off a powerpoint expecting you to take down notes when he goes through it on his own pace. Final is cumulative. His tests are absolutely hard and difficult to comprehend. I would look into another professor. He truly enjoys making his students frustrated and anxious.
Dr Watkins is a great professor. I had him for an online class. He takes a couple days to respond to your email but he really does try to respond quickly. His assignments are challenging but understandable. He is very helpful and I highly recommend him!!!
This professor seriously does NOT teach. He takes DAYS [and I mean 4-5 days] to reply to emails. Does not answer questions on discussion boards. Gives you like 11 chapters to read and do an assignment on, gives you a grade and won't tell you WHY you got that grade. Please, take someone else. It will save you the headache.
I have never taken a class from a Doctor who has had so many blatant spelling and grammatical errors on the course site. Very frustrating. Website was not up to date at the beginning of the semester, I know at least one person who ended up buying the wrong books for it. I have no problem putting in work, just tell me what you want/expect!
Had Dr. Watkins for Crime in AMerica. He was funny, knows his stuff and is really serious about making sure you understand the subject matter! He is not a "typical" professor in, but I learned a lot. He expects participation in class and you really have to read the text and study the power points. Tests weren't easy, but he offered extra credit!
Very unprofessional. Fails to post assignments and exams as scheduled; doesn't respond to email or discussion post questions and problems. Everything he writes (test questions, announcements, etc.) full of grammar and spelling errors - very confusing.
He lost a quiz and finally found it a day before grades were due. He gave us our final review at 8:30 the night before our test, which was a morning class. Good luck! Avoid.
I'm not sure how this man got his PhD, he cannot write a grammatically correct sentence. The subject matter was easy enough (introductory course) but even when he went over test questions later he had to reword them because they were terribly written. A nice guy, but not worth getting a mediocre grade for easy material.
I took Dr. Watkins for multiple classes. The first class was very hard but once you get used to the types of things he's looking for you'll be fine (but you HAVE to go to class). Textbook is required and you will fail if you don't read-the tests are about 1/2 reading 1/2 lecture. Overall his classes were great if you're willing to work hard.
I took this course online over the summer and it was the easiest class I've had so far. There are only 3 discussion posts and as long as you site more than two legitimate sources then you'll get the full points. Also there are 3 tests that are online. If you read the text then you will do well and use the available resources he gives you.
Dr. Watkins is a great prof. Class is easy, just read and outline the chapters. Quizzes are hard and ask very specific questions but if you've outlined the chapter its easy A time. Overall very good teacher, you'll learn something and obtain a good grade if you have 1/2 a brain and read the text.
This guy gave us step by step homework then the in class assignment he gave no help with.Avoid him, he should not be teaching
Professor Watkins is a very helpful and insightful professor. He does go over a lot of material in class that you do not need for tests but it will help you further your career. If you do not understand something he is always trying to help his students. He is late with some things but generally he is a good professor.
Dr. Watkins is not at all concerned about his students or their work. He has an ego issue when someone submits something that he may not know about because it is not written in a book and it came from real world experience. He takes long times to grade work and leaves you wondering about your grade until the last week of class. TERRIBLE!!!
Took CJ systems with Dr. Watkins. Never bought the book. Relatively easy class. Only 4 tests and some extra credit opportunities. Lots of notes. Real straight shooting guy and helpful if you ask him. I didn't try very hard at all in his class so I found the tests a little difficult. But I didn't really study at all and still got a C
Dr. Watkins wants you to LEARN! He grades hard & is fair. If you want an A youl have to work for it. He doesn't believe in just handing out As, you are in college and control your own destiny. You MUST make the effort to seek out help, he is always available in his office hours as well as after class. I've taken him for mult. classes & gotten As.
Dr. Watkins truly wants students to succeed, but you must put forth the effort. He is quick to respond to emails, shows concerns for his students. It is not an easy class, but this is expected. Must read articles and assigned readings for the discussion posts. Do NOT be intimidated, just do the work and ask questions and he will GLADLY help out!
Great professor! Be prepared to read a lot, anything from the book is fair game. Class is easy otherwise, no papers or assignments. Just 3 tests. Lectures are good, a bit repetitious at time, but he does it to make sure you pass the tests and grasp the content. Girls find him attractive in a Sons of Anarchy kind of way. Would take his class again.
Have taken 8 Masters Courses at UCF. CCJ5015 should have been one of the first. Glad I waited because Dr. Watkins course really turned me off to the program. This class is all theory and all writing and purely subjective in grading. Had 4.0 in Masters until 89.3% in this class. Mean course average was 88.3%. 3 Text books + more outside readings.
Dr. Watkins is the savior of criminal justice majors in and outside the classroom. He teaches core criminal justice classes and is also the internship coordinator for the program. He clearly knows the material he is teaching and wants the students to know it too. He will help you with anything you might need in the CJ program. Awesome guy!!
Takes the class way to seriously like he is a drill sergeant or something. Assignment instructions are always unclear and students constantly bombard the inbox on canvas for help as to what they mean. Constant assignments due multiple times a week, no break ever in homework due. No way to work ahead as the stuff is locked.
His online course is a living nightmare. There are 3 text books that are REQUIRED and, apart from the reading, he will constantly assault you with homework. His instructions for the homework are VERY confusing and poorly written. He will take months to grade your assignments, so expect to have no clue what your grade is until it is too late.
Probably the most difficult class I have ever taken. There are 3 books, which are all required. The assignments are confusing and don't expect any help because he will probably reply to your email after the assignment is due. If you want to stress out, this class is definitely for you. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!
He's so hot. Great professor. Always willing to help and give great feedback. Only wants you to succeed!!!
You have 4 grades. 1st is an introduction grade worth about 5% of your grade. The other three are discussions. A lot of writing and you have to actually read in order to get a good grade. Biggest tip is make sure you use peer-review articles and actually include it as part of your discussion. Do not include just a sentence from an article. Pts off!
Gives good feedback on the papers you write. Every couple of weeks there is an assignment that makes you answer five or six questions. I have had many classes with Dr. Watkins because he is a good professor
Writing intensive but to be expected. Gives at least 2 weeks per module. Answer 4 questions w/multiple sections. A little slow on grades, but gives detailed feedback. Include outside research and examples of understanding in posts and you'll be fine. He graded a little tough for his laid back style, but once you know what he expects its not hard.
Dr. Watkins is a great guy in terms of listening and responding to his students. He does however, give unclear/vague instructions and is a tough grader. For this particular course, there is a lot of in depth analysis he looks for in responses to his assignments.
This man is crazy. A 18 page internship for 6 credit.. Should had known. Tough grader. Didn't expect to be stressed out in an internship. Very hard to communicate and Lots of writing. Take someone else or dont do internship that is 6 credit or more.
This is not an easy class, but his expectations are clear. If you do not understand something, he's very quick to respond to emails. You must read if you want to pass. He gives plenty of time to work on assignments and use it. I was challenged all semester, but he offered great feedback. I worked for my A and I'd take his class again.
Dr. Watkins is a very positive professor. He wants all his students to succeed. Grades come from 6 module discussion posts. He makes you answer 4-5 questions in each module. Biggest tip I can give is to use scholarly articles (peer reviewed) for citations and include an introduction and conclusion into your discussion post.
Hes the nicest guy and truly wants the best for you. Emails back super fast and work load is not bad at all. Hes understanding.
Dr. Watkins is nice, but this class is demanding. His instructions are not clear sometimes, so start assignments early especially with GIS. Writing is a must and give good details. Make sure you understand theory really well.
Professor Watkins is a caring professor and really wants you to succeed. This class consists of 6 modules with about 4-5 questions he wants you to answer thoroughly with peer reviewed articles. He gives great feedback so read them each time an assignment is graded because it really helps your grade. Also get ready to read!
I have taken Dr. W a few times in undergrad and at the graduate level. His material is interesting, but he is a tough grader. You definitely have to read and understand the material so that you can properly articulate on his assignments. Received As all times I have taken him. Will definitely take him again .
The class is broken up into modules with practice, then tests, then assignments on what you learned and then proficiency projects to see how youre doing with the material. It is a lot of work and can be super hard the further you get in the class. He grades nicely tho. Very busy guy so dont expect lots of feedback.
This class was taught over zoom and was lecture heavy, but he would share really good career resources for students. 3 easy assignments due every week on MindTap and 3 exams that were easy if you study the chapter reviews. Definitely not a class to stress about, and you can get by without the textbook. Professor is caring and super helpful :)
One of the worst professors I've had so far! He is so unclear in his directions, refuses to help students, assignments are insanely hard, lengthy, and useless, and does not understand grammar to save his soul. Makes this calls WAY to intense for an elective. TAKE ANYONE ELSE INSTEAD OF HIM!!!
This was the absolute worst class and professor I have ever taken. He does not give a flying hoot about the students. He is super unhelpful to any questions any student has and will not help you succeed. He did not help us with any questions we had about the software required in this class. Do not take this professor. His attention is elsewhere.
Took this for internship credit. Fairly straight-forward in his expectations for the semester & there's only a couple assignments. He answers emails quickly & requires a meeting/direct communication with him a few times throughout the term. Other than that there is a final paper which is self-explanatory where you discuss your intern experience.
This class almost made me want to quit grad school. We had 3 textbooks we needed to get and it was never clear what chapters we were supposed to be reading. He also expects essays in the discussion posts. And you have to participate in a second board where you have to come up with a topic. Super hard class! Do not recommend!
Dr. Watkins is a very nice guy. He will help you if you need it, just ask him and be specific. He takes a couple of days to reply, but he is busy. This course in it of itself is not hard you just need to learn ArcGIS software and play around on it.
The course seems difficult at first but it's not. Ask for help, he will help you! Using Excel to analyze crime data. If you are not good with excel you will fail. You must know how to use excel search and functions thoroughly. LEARN HOW TO USE EXCEL....WELL!
He's a great professor, but you do have to put in that work. His assignments were pretty much 4-6 questions based on readings from the textbooks (he also requires three textbooks btw). But these assignments are basically essays as he wants it written in paragraph format with an intro and conclusion. There's about 5 of these for the whole semester.
This class utilizes Excel heavily, I recommend having prior knowledge of Excel to succeed in this class. Class is broken up into discussions & excel assignments/projects. Assignments are spread out throughout the semester. Prof Watkins is a very busy person so he may not respond quickly to emails. Working with students & asking questions helped me.
The class is broken up into packbacks, written assignments, & ARCMAP assignments. The toughest part of the class was getting the software program downloaded (ARCMAP) & understanding how to use the program. *Very important to get the ARCGIS textbook*. What helped me succeed was working with my classmates & doing the ARCGIS guided book assignments.
The class is broken up into packbacks, written assignments, & ARCMAP assignments. Toughest parts of the class was getting the software program downloaded. I did have problems downloading the program and had to find a solution because the professor did not know how to help me. The professor takes his sweet time responding to emails.
Class *CCJ5015* Grad level. Professor Watkins is a TOUGH GRADER! No matter how detail your papers are he will always find something wrong! Packbacks are easy but very annoying! Its so much reading and writing! 4 Books, 9 Packback assignments but only have to do 6 (you got to pay $30) just for a AI robot to grade it! 6 Discussions.
This class requires a lot of work with the ArcGIS software. The professor is helpful, but can be slow to respond. Definitely get the textbook and work closely with classmates. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for understanding the concepts.
The professor uses Pearson and Packback for CCJ 6073, which isn't so great. Three projects are point-heavy: a paper, many discussions (Packback), and assignments (Pearson). The professor is a bit unorganized but I learned alot in this course.
Solid professor, I had no prior experience with Excel and he makes it extremely easy to learn and comprehend.
