new outlook on astronomy. The test are hard but it make u want to learn more. I got a D in the class(i should have studied and dont the extra credit) but i am excited to try it again, he is definatly not a boring instructor!

He is a good teacher but hard!!! I love his jokes and all the pics that he shows of him. he is very sick right now: Hey Highfil Get better your students like you!!!

Great teacher, really got me interested in Astronomy. Unique style loves his work and what and strong interest in what he's teaching, His test are EASY just study..material is easy to memorize if you have a brain.

Cool guy, highly informed in his field, clear on his lectures and very interesting. Lecture is structured around his book, so pay attention, follow along, and take notes. Allows the use of a note card during tests, so it is not hard to receive an A.

His class is one of the best I've taken. He is so good at what he does. He knows his subject very well. Class is very intersting. He allows notes on tests & if you can't get an A with notes, then you're a moron.

Most organized teacher i've met! I like the way he talks :) Take him & you'll know. Tests are not easy if you follow the review of the test, which is the day b4. Make sure to take notes. Lots of trip opportunities which will be fun & give you EC points.

He is just so kind he is so willing to make it a little easier. but if you dont want to help him is is like why should i help you. all the is needed is to do the work. that it he is so great.

He is very helpful and interesting. Probably the only teacher in rio hondo who writes his own book and uses slides. I recommend a tape recorder; tests are word for word on his lectures.

DAm honestly one of the easiest teachers you will encounter in College. Makes it easy on you, very organized he has slides and tell you wat to write down for notes. Test are easy if you study he lets you have a cheat sheet so its easy.

Mr. Highfill is a teacher who makes learning astronomy fun. His slides are very interesting, and I like how he blends in learning with fun! If you never took astronomy before, you will enjoy his class!

If you want to watch Star Wars you take this class. We get out early every day! I mean EVERY day. He is the coolest because its so easy. Not too exciting subject. Rent videos yourself and learn as much as in class.

He is a wonderful teacher and very approachable. He is very intelligent and you will learn so much. His class is interesting and the time will pass by fairly quick. I highly recomend this class to everyone.

I wish Mr Highfill could teach all of my classes! Very organized, extremely fair, LOTS of extra credit opportunities, and best of all, realizes we don't all want to be professional astronomers. In addition, the required text is put together by Mr Highfill and is sold at the campus bookstore for about $6.00. I highly recommend his class!

You have to be in class to do good, his lectures are pretty clear and you get study guides for each test, if you pay attention and take good notes you will do fine. he is very funny and an interesting professor to have. Highly recommend him.

BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! gives lots of extra credit and the tests are easy if you study his lectures. He doesnt take roll, but be there for the lecture, cuz he makes it interesting, even if you don't like astronomy. We even watched a few episodes of the Simpsons in class!!

Easy class for the most part... Just do cheat sheet, pay attention, and do look in the book every now and then...Cheap book, was like 7$ cuz it's his own. Loves what he teaches. Did not have interest for class in the beginning, but found interesting.

Mr. Highfill is the best professor I have ever had! He makes class so interesting, even if you're not into astronomy (which I wasn't) you will NOT want to miss class. He's definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime teachers. Rio Hondo is very lucky to have him, & so are you if you take his class. Every teacher should BE MORE LIKE HIGHFILL. =)

Best professor ever. Wish all professors in the world were like him. But you gotta open the book to pass this class. Tons of extra credit. If you take this class, don't miss the visits to the observatory - his night sky orientation is better than any planetarium shows I ever watched.

Speaks in as if he were a famous narrator, lol. His lectures are interesting and he repeats the important material. Lets you know what's on all the exams. Study the text (he wrote it) and the notes, especially the terms. Do all the extra credit and you'll at least get a "C."

Mr.Highfill is one of the best professors at Rio. The class book costs under $10 and is used daily, his lectures are clearly stated, he goes over a study guide before tests, and offers plenty of extra credit. For the lab our final was a pot luck. There is no reason why anyone who studdies and does the extra credit should not get anything but an A.

He is a great teacher. Astronomy is something most people find at least a slight interest in,but once your in his class you begin to love astronomy and you the way he teaches he learn and retain all hhis knowledge.

He is one of teh greatest teacher at Rio HOndo. extremely easy, offers several extra credit. YOu only do one essay of 10 pages for his class, only Honors students, and a mandatory fieldtrip. The best is that he lets you take a cheat cheat for you exams.

He is a great guy and an even better teacher. He keeps you interested and knows how to keep your attention. He is extremely dedicated to his work but doesn't take it out on the student. He loves what he does and it is obvious by the amount of information you get from his courses. Take this class even if you don't have to. Then retake it.

This class is really hard if you don't show up to class. There's no way you can read up on the lecture. He made the book for this class so his lecture isn't even on there, just general notes. It's as if he made the book that way so people have to show up. Either way, he's very chill. Extra Credit is fun. Just arrive on time, he locks the door.

The 1st page of lab manual already mention:the ONLY WAY to success in class is come to class and take very good notes! yes, you have to write down everyword he said b/c everything he leucture stick to astronomy!! if you miss a class or didn't pay attention of course you would fail the exam! Professor Highfill is a great teacher. That said, as of the Spring 2011 semester, he no longer allows the use of cheat sheets. There is an extreme amount of information to learn and the tests reflect this. An interesting and educational class but if you're looking for an easy A, this class is definitely not it.

Hands down, my favorite professor/teacher ever! He's super nice, gives u everything you need to pass, has a super cheap book & if u do the extra credit then u get an A! 110 is a little challenge but it's freakin astronomy! But I'd recommend everyone take it!

If you want an EASY A then take his lab class! He's a great teacher & his lab was literally the easiest class I have ever taken. You get to go to camping in Joshua tree which has a beautiful night sky. Plus you get a potluck instead of a final!

Great teacher, interesting class, but you really have to study because tests are killer! and for anyone about to take the class he does not let you use a cheat sheet anymore! he stopped doing this, starting this year! so study study study! and go to class or you will get lost!

This class was very neat! Mr Highphill is great. There's not too much homework and his lectures are amaizing!The tests can be tough if you didnt study. Plus the text he uses is only about $10!

I absolutely loved this class and the professor. The textbook is cheap and he's very clear with the material; its almost word for word from the book. The tests are very long, each time it was about 100 questions but nothing too tricky. He has extra credit opportunities so that helps as well.

He's a great professor, I loved the course and I learned so much about it. If you're a slacker dont take his class because it relies heavily on the tests and they're very rigorous and take it during the spring because he'll cancel the extra cred on a foggy day and it really helps your grade. Take good notes and buy a voice recorder it'll help you

Mr. Highfill is the best professor I have had at RHC. He uses his own text, so it's cheap. He explains EVERYTHING clearly and gives study guides that essentially lay out all of his tests. Just be sure to study and put in an effort to get a good grade. You'll learn so many awesome facts about the cosmos. I definitely recommend this class.

BEST TEACHER AT RHC. Difficult material but he teaches it wonderfully! He is super professional & will help you if you ask! I recommend talking to him, he is truly an awesome guy. One of my favorite teachers of all time. P.S. he usually lets labs out early!

great professor! you MUST STUDY or else you wont pass because its a lot of material and the tests are 100 questions, if you have no chance of passing he will recommend you to drop it. we started with 45 students and at the end only 23 remain. he gives extra credit and its really interesting, dedicate time to it.

Easiest professor I ever taken!

I took 114 and 110 with Prof Highfill. He is one of the greatest prof I've ever met.So much knowledge and willingness to help his students in anyway possible. He makes the class interesting and engaging and its sad to hear that he will retire soon. I am so happy to have taken both 110 and 114 with him.

I took Dr. Highfill's class about 14 years ago. Astronomy is not my major. It was one of the most interesting and awe inspiring classes in my entire college career. I would take that class again and probably learn just as much. If he is still working, take his class!
