Very unclear and hard to understand. Only good thing about class is that you can use a full page of notes on tests!
Very hard to deal with. She is picky about a quiet class, so if you want to take a class with her, you need to be quiet like dead silent. no joke. She uses this "ticket" system, which is like if you talk and she catches you get 1% off, your total final grade, which is ridiculous! Hard to understand sometimes (Indian accent), but a good teacher
Her class can get really boring, especially if you have a two hour class. She lectures alot and its mostly watching her write on the board for two hours, kinda hard to understand her and shes really strict.
she's really not that bad. very easy class. do your hw, make a cheat sheet, do the labs, and you'll be golden. my class was extremely chatty so she became strict, since the talking in such a small room was distracting for everyone.
Overall she was fair. She knew what had to be achieved by the end of lecture, but she was very hard to understand sometimes. The class overall was not hard, just needed to attend, do all homework, and attend labs. Her tests arent hard because she allows a page of notes on the test, and on her final she allows 2 pages.Just watch out for her tickets!
At first, you would not understand her words. But after a week or even less, you will get it right away. She likes a quiet class. She teaches well and uses examples as a tool to teach rather than going over through all terminologies and stuff just to get to it. She gives a decent amount of homework, lab activities and her exams are good. 5/5
Overall, she was an alright teacher. Her quizzes and homework were fair, but I didn't think that her tests her fair. She rarely gave partial credit for any test problems, so even if I showed a lot of work and had the right idea, I was docked a lot of points for an incorrect answer. Sometimes difficult to understand her accent, too.
She was a really good teacher. She pretty much tells you what is on the exams and even if you dont get the answer, but get the set up right she will give you most of the points. She can be strict, but she's not really mean. She was a good teacher. You can get a B if you do the labs and homework. Quizes arent that hard either.
I think that the biggest problem that I had with her was her unfairness. On tests and quizzes, if you make one small mistake and end up with the wrong answer, you'll get marked down for the whole thing. Absolutely no partial credit on anything. She also has a pretty heavy accent, but you'll get used to it after a little while. I don't recommend her
Very hard to understand and her lectures drag on and on. She is willing to help, but if you're struggling with the way she is teaching, she doesnt try to look at from a different way to help out her students. Grading on the tests is ridiculous, even if the steps are right, she doesnt give much partial credit.
This teacher is the WORST. You cant talk at all in the class. One time I was staring at the board but apparently not taking enough notes so she yelled at me. Im a good student and NEVER been yelled at or kicked out of class. Definitely walking on eggshells in that class.
She explains the subject fairly well, but since vast amounts of homework sections are assigned each week(you get around 1-2 months to turn in all hw). You can also use note cards on your quizzes and tests. Overall, a pretty good teacher, but is very anal on grading the labs and will take off points for stupid mistakes.
Overall she's a decent teacher. She does go over what you need to know for tests & you're allowed note cards. She's a hard grader. Even if you demonstrate you know what's going on, she will mark off a ton of points for making a little mistake. She is helpful however, but tends to go at high speed during lecture.
Really easy teacher if you can keep up with her lectures. She'll go over problems that are similar to the ones on her tests the day before and will focus on the ones people are struggling with. She will make time to review for the test right before if necessary. Really fair grader, she gives partial credit if you mess up a little.
I thought she was a great teacher. If you want an easy A, don't take her. Her tests are hard. She pulls the hardest questions from the study guides for the tests. But she is super helpful and will slow class down if you have questions. I feel like she intentionally weeds out students who aren't serious. One of the hardest A's I've ever earned.
If you attend class every day the class isn't hard. The tests are basically problems pulled from the homework. If you attend the class and keep up with the homework, you can definitely get an A.
She's good! I think she explains the material really well and they're no surprises on the exams or quizzes. She also helps you to prepare for the tests. I think she is one of the best math teachers i have had. I hope she teaches calc next fall!
Great teacher! very good at explaining concepts. i love her and i wish she was teaching calc in the fall. would definitely recommend her if you actually want to learn something. there are no surprises on her exams and if you go to class, pay attention and do the hw, you will definitely pass!!
She is a really good teacher and really does care about you passing. The class itself is time-consuming b/c of all the hw, but all stats classes are like that. If you do the work and study of course your going to pass. I would recommend her.
Dr. Majumdar is really nice and helpful. She is a good teacher. Her tests are fair and not a surprise. Practice the review problems before the test. She cares for the students and wants them to do good in the class.
Mrs. Majumdar is one of the best Math teachers here. She gives review problems before every test and they are quite similar to the problems on the test. She is very helpful and explains concepts clearly. She makes calculus easy.
Great at illustrating concepts. Visibly loves teaching. Class may be hard, but if it's not hard, you aren't learning.
Ms. Majumdar is the WORST teacher i have ever had. Not only is she hard to understand but her tests are extremely difficult. Homework is worth nothing so dont even bother doing it and if you dont have an average of 70% on ALL of the tests then you will fail...it is stated in her 12 page syllabus.
Explains concepts very clearly. She is very helpful during office hours. You are expected to learn theorems and definitions. Her grading system is set up so that homework, labs, and class work are worth a lot. Homework is a very challenge. As long as you are doing all the homework and labs, and not failing all the tests, you should be fine.
Not clear on what needs to be memorized(pretty much EVERYTHING!) Even though homework is on MML you still have to turn in written work! Tests are difficult and she only does examples on a small board on 1 side of the room! Worst class ever!
This teacher is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. She truly enjoys teaching; her face brightens up every time she solves a problem. She comes off strict, but she is very fair. Her tests are almost identical to her practice exams, so utilize them!
I dint like her at all until I started going to her lab hours, then I realized she was very helpful, willing to work with you, and knew what she was talking about. Her exams were hard but fair. Her final was predictable ( which is good) and she had a good attitude/ she likes what she does in life. My advice do the homework and go to her lab hours.
I dont really like her. She is hard to understand and you have to really work with her. She also reads directly from the book.
She went through everything too quickly. Did not really help with homework and gave way too much information at once. She also would test in the middle of a chapter.
Class is generally easy. She's really good at making the concepts clear and is perfectly willing to answer any questions and go over problems in class. Tests are fair as long as you put in the time to study. She has a bit of an accent, but you can understand it just fine. Drops lowest quiz and test grade. Also offers a little extra credit.
She is just like any typical calc teacher: tough and assigns alot of homework. Expect working late nights on labs and studying for tests because test problems are all the "nice" or tricky problems. She is pretty helpful, however. I went to get help on my lab and she practically did the whole thing for me.
A lot of homework assignments and labs, and last two tests were really hard. She is a super helpful teacher though, and she'll help you out a lot when you ask questions or go to her office hours. She calls on people in class to see if they know the answer and she's really nice about explaining what you did wrong if you aren't getting it.
This teacher is very unfriendly, almost rude. I love math, but this teacher made it seem like a chore instead of something to enjoy and excel at. Even though I received a decent grade (since I read quite a bit on my own), I would never take another class from this teacher.
The first part is easy (geometry portion), however, the trig portion is tough. You really have to study and memorize formulas, no cheat sheet on exams. Daily homework is required in order to not fall behind. I recommend studying identities ahead of time since that is the hardest exam. Class is reasonable, not for slackers. Take adv of ex credit.
She doesn't care what happens in class, she sticks to her schedule even if that means skipping your questions. She do not explain well, do homework before class. Go beyond the homework, her tests are Hard.
WORST math teacher I've ever had. Very strict, unfriendly and extremely fast paced. Difficult to focus on notes and listen to her (she has an accent as well). She doesn't care if you don't understand something she moves on to go on with lecture, if you ask simple questions she makes you feel bad (not approachable). Tests are tough!!
She is moving fast, difficult to understand, A lot of homework, hard tests ( actually tests are easy but questions have hindi style language which creates confusion ). she only care about the score of the tests. get A in homework, quizzes, lab hours, participation and attendance, but if you get C on tests then you Have C. unfriendly, Don't get her
Failed Teacher in Every Part of Class. She is Not Helpful. Ask Question in Class, You Will be Invited to a Private Meeting to Her Office. She Uses Her Notes and Writes Fast In Paper Using Projector. You Get Nothing From her Teaching Because You Want to Copy Her Notes. If You are Good at Math then fine. Otherwise you get nothing from her teaching
just want to describe her.... "Not a good person"
She is just a waste of time. She forces you to do something else but on exam she brings something else.
Unfriendly, emotional, hard to understand and cruel. She makes a lot of mistakes if she doesn't have her cheat sheet in the class. Her practice test is useless and different. To pass her class only pay attention on her tests to get a good grades (read the book) otherwise you wont pass. Homework, classwork, and extra credit is worthless.
Best professor ever. If you want to learn math... this is the professor for you! Her lectures are extremely effective in making you understand the topic. NO other prof can teach like her. You'll be doing yourself a disservice by not taking her. Not saying its easy, its easy if you do your homework. Plain and simple.
Never take a class with this teacher. She is bad at lecturing, grades inconsistently and has no respect for the students.
It's hard, like any math class is. But I found her to be helpful. Some might struggle with her accent but I didn't most of the time. She has her moments of whimsy, and if you need help and see her in her office she's incredibly helpful and clear. I was confused on a few things and cleared each up with a few minutes in her office.
I took this professor for trigonometry and i regretted it. She wasn't very clear in her teaching methods, she was not very helpful, the tests were nothing like the review. I know that trigonometry is hard in general, but i have friends that have taken her for precalc and they say the same.
she is one the worse teacher in Las Positas College. She makes you busy in different kind of question as homework but the exams question are kind of different. She makes u pay for software which doesn't help instead sometimes it doesn't accept your right answers. No good tutoring. I was confused with her behavior in class. "was she happy or sad?"
her tests are incredibly hard and nothing like the homework problems. thinks everyone is super smart and expects everyone to keep up to her fast pace. lectures are rushed and its hard to follow what she is doing cause she just copies from her notes
she is amazing. she tells it how it is and is bluntly honest. She makes jokes sometimes and is overall a great teacher. She lets you know the first day you're in there that a majority of the class is going to fail, so at least she's honest
She is great at Math but not very good at explaining it. You can take her class, but be aware that the most learning you will do is outside of it on your own because she can't explain the way she thinks. If you have her learning style method, this won't be difficult but most of my class struggled with her.
Very straightforward class. Study guide is provided for the tests & test problems were usually from hw or study guide. It was not required to turn in hw, which I loved because I was usually behind. Her lectures were easy to follow. You should be able to get an A/B, if you can do the hw. She even gives extra credit. Would love to take her again.
Hard to follow her lectures. Most of the class didn't understand the material. The same 3 people would mainly answer the questions. No graded hw so most of your grade is coming from quizzes and tests. Sometimes nice but has a short temper when it comes to cell phones or even whispering.
Terrible: -Homework does not count towards your grade, so effort practicing is not rewarded. -Her fast-paced lectures do not go well with her unorganized method of writing things all over the place. -Marks you down arbitrarily. -Dull and boring personality. It was obscene that the sub we had one time was much better than she was at her job.
I took Professor Majumdar for Math 1 and Math 2. She covers the content well and recommends the homework (helpful). Attend lectures and study well for the exams and you'll be fine. She's more than willing to help you succeed in her class.
Pros: No HW required but you'll get cheesed if you don't. Con: Exams pretty much sum up your grade, and for whatever reason she applies a reverse curve to exams: ( She won't assign points to problems until after exams, and if a question was missed by a lot of students its worth more). Unless you consider yourself a god at math try to avoid.
Prof. Majumdar is very nice outside of class and very friendly, but in class, she is a very tough grader, gives a test or a quiz almost every week and makes you work for your grade. From experience and feedback from other students, it is nearly impossible to get an A. You'll to understand the material very well, but will most likely get a B or a C.
She is an ok teacher but every class was spent through rushing through lessons. She was impossible to see outside of class except an hour before the test day. Also she passes back quizzes during test taking. So if you did bad you wouldn't know until it didn't matter. Many areas could be improved in her teaching style.
She is a very tough grader on exams and her system that she uses hurts students more than a regular curve or raw score. She sometimes has little patience with students who do not understand. She even calls on students, putting them on the spot. She assigns so much homework for and it doesn't translate onto exams/quizzes.
It is apparent she wants students to understand the subject and pass. Every quiz and exam had clear grading criteria prior to taking said test. She will go into every detail, you just have to ask the question! No homework because your test scores will reflect your understanding. Best math professor I've ever had. Respect is reciprocated with her.
If you don't do the homework, it is pretty much impossible to pass. Doesn't collect homework but there's a quiz every week on the homework so you have to keep up. No extra credit. No notes for tests. Lectures are hard to follow in class, but she is very helpful outside of class.
Lots of HW. Practice tests are hit or miss. Real tests are not that difficult, but she grades carefully on notation of proofs. She is helpful, would recommend office hours. Use practice tests and review chapters(they're short) and you should pass every test. Quizzes are weekly and annoying. Homework is long but hit/miss on relativity. Solid choice.
updated review: After taking this class and transferring to UCBerk I now have a greater appreciation for this class(Lin Alg). It has prepared me to be ahead in my class of proofs. Prof Majumdar has given me all the tools to make solid proofs and get great marks! I give this class a good rating despite the difficulty. Great preparation. Thanks!
I had disagreements with her grading scheme, but I came to know her as a caring and knowledgeable professor. She's lowkey genius when it comes to many branches of math. See her in office hours. Engage her in class. You will not regret fully learning this content.
Speeds through lectures, rarely ever leaving room for students to ask for clarification. I've never had a professor lecture the way she does, leaving out important details and never makes the connection for you. You just copy the problems down and try and make sense of it after the lecture. She does a lot more "showing" that she does teaching.
Professor is a great teacher! She is very good at showing a lot of examples. She does always takes attendance. Active discussion board every week, lots of hw but flexible on turning it in. Tests are similar to practice tests. Overall teacher is great, very nice, be communicative with her and she will do what she can to always help
Good teacher IMO. She shows a lot of examples during lectures which helps. She has prewritten notes accessible to the students for each section which is extremely helpful. It's like a summarized version of the textbook. She assigns a lot of homework though. Homework can be turned in 2 weeks late for full credit. Quiz or discussion every week.
Professor Majumdar was pretty thorough with her teaching and pretty clear on what she expects. The class was not easy and to stand a chance on her quizzes and Tests you must do the homework. You can submit homework late. Sometimes it felt she she rushes concepts but in her defense there is a lot of material to cover for this class.
Professor Majumdar is very experienced with the subject but no matter what, I had to still watch videos online to fully understand everything because her lectures are really fast-paced. However, her office hours and the examples that she does in class are very helpful. Even though she gives a lot of homework, it's really useful as it helps a lot.
Such an engaging teacher, she explains things so thoroughly with analogies. Lectures can be speedy and she gives a bit too much hw imo, but you can have up to 5 late hw without penalty. All quizzes are group quizzes which is helpful, and exams are exactly like the study guides. She was so caring, understanding, and nice to me.
Very poor teacher, often assigns unnecessarily large amounts of homework that she doesn't check, doesn't give any helpful feedback on tests, often leaving just "?" and marking points wherever, accused several students of cheating with 0 evidence and refused to reinstate proper grades after not providing any evidence of cheating
Her test preparation includes 130 problems. Her practice exams are significantly easier than her actual exams. Her ability to properly prepare her students for difficult tests is extremely poor. I would not recommend taking her. Other profs will communicate clearly what to know for the tests. What to practice. Most of her prep is useless.
praying is essential
Ridiculous amount of HW. Each test is way harder than the last. As someone who crushed it in previous math classes and got 5's in AP Calculus, this is some next level stuff. Too much work from a teacher with a horrible attitude. First few tests are chill but the final is demon difficulty and you have no chance to drop. Avoid at all costs
She is an amazing teacher. She explained things well. The chapter 16 was a bit rushed and the concepts weren't explained in depth. She gives a lot of homework, it took me around 8 hours a week. However, the homework was fun so it was never overwhelming. She offers some extra credit. 75% of the grade came from 3 midterms and the final.
Knows what she's teaching and provides resources to learn and review the material. Paying attention in class is necessary to do good but she is understanding about when you need to miss class or if you need more help. Provides sample exams as exam review, grades homework as complete/incomplete.
Prof Majumdar is great at teaching. Calc 3 content is difficult in general which is probably the reason for the bad reviews. She offers plenty of opportunities for extra credit and gives students everything they need to succeed on exams. Just do as she says, practice a wide variety of problems, especially from the practice exams, and you'll be fine
Respectfully, the teacher has the thickest accent, and I genuinely CANNOT understand a thing she says; I have to watch lectures from other sources, such as Khan Academy. Please wisely choose a teacher that can teach.
Absolutely terrible. Please beware. She is very petty with grading and gives ALOT of homework. I have to watch many outside videos since I cannot understand her and her way of teaching.
DO NOT TAKE
Save yourself some stress and skip this professor. Her lectures are good, but you must follow her exact methods or you lose points on exams and quizzes. If you don't score above a C average on these exams, you fail no matter your homework grades. Class grade and exam grade is separate. Only 2–3 assignments per week but they can be very lengthy.
Please choose a different professor, trust me.
Not a good experience in this class, unfortunately.
So far the worst math professor I have taken.
Tough grader, very picky with grading!
Not a good professor, respectfully. I am not good at math and I tried my best and she made it so much harder for me.
Don't take her.
All test questions are reviewed multiple times in class. Tests are fairly easy, with a formula sheet (though its not always very helpful). Homework is a big part of the grade (15%) with almost no late credit, so turn everything in on time. Shes very caring offers lots of extra credit and quizzes are easy usually one question done in groups of three
