totally sucks, will not accept anyones oppinion unless it is his. very rude, tries to intimidate and spreads his political propaganda on others which should not be done. Test are all essay with no prompts class totally sucks and he doesn't teach it well.
class blows we should at least have a prompt
Class assignments are vague, tests are essays all 6 of them. The only good thing is that we don't need a book. All he wants to talk about is the NY Times.
Very interesting point of view on the GOV, i took during first summer session and will take again. I think he used to be a football coach.
Great instructor. Learned more from his class than all previous govt. classes combined. Recommend him if you want to learn.
Learned more in his 2 classes than all my previous 57 hours combined. You actually have to listen to him, which these people expressing their opinions obviously couldn't handle doing. If he taught other subjects, I'd take them too.
Interesting class, alot of class discussions. If you like to talk then this is the class to take. You will learn alot about politics. No book required but tests are essays... Depending on what type of student you are you can make an A.
Very intimidating, he tends to be very rude if a student expresses a different opinion than his during discussion. The material is very thurough and you should do well on the essay tests if you prepare.
You do not nedd text books everything is on his website. you do have to read the New york Times every week and he makes you talk in class alot overall he can be easy if you read the essays on his site. you also must turn in a summary of NYT every friday.
VERY GOOD TEACHER! MAKES GOVT SEEM INTERESTING AND EASY. BEST OF ALL YOU DON'T NEED ANY BOOKS! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ACCESS TO INTERNET, YOU'RE GONNA NEED IT WITH HIM! I WILL TAKE HIM FOR 2302!
Take him if you are a liberal. He is very opinionated and not willing to listen to others. You barely have homework, but if you come to class be prepared to talk or he will make you look stupid. HE gave 2 tests and they were essay with no promt, just write what you know.
Just write what he says for the test! DO NOT think for yourself. Write ver batim what he says he thinks and you will get an A. Have no opinion of your own and you will be fine. He is rude. No make ups only zeros even if you have a child in the hospital having emergence surgery. He should not be a teacher.
ughhh
This teacher basically wants you to come out of 2302 with a broader understand of WHY gov't works the way it does, instead of just knowing the basics. That's not asking much. Be prepared to be able to regurgitate LOTS of court cases.
He said " People with the most money should have more say so than every one else." I wanted to puke. His entire class is based off of essays he wrote, no books. Everyone in my class recieved an F on the midterm and was forced to retake it. P.S. Do not think for yourself in this class.
He expects a lot from the students, rightly so in my opinion. Dr. Berrier knows his stuff and passes that knowledge on through his own essays and research.
He is an intellectual conversationalist and helps you understand why the govt works the way it does. he is opinionated but don't argue with him. do what he asks and you'll be fine
I liked this class. He made it interesting. No books necessary. Just read essays. Exams are pretty easy, as long as you study your notes! That's key!
The class was based off his own essays, which as far as I can remember didn't cite any sources! I enjoyed the first class I had him for, but not the second. He forced me to drop during 2nd week because I was coming in late - due to SAC's horrible parking. I also think it had something to do with me disagreeing with his OPINION about the death tax.
This guy is really smart. But he expect you to know everything already. The work he gives is really easy but his classes were unorganized. Just do all the nyt articles and study what he give you and you should be fine.
NO BOOK!!! Just study the essays and do the NYT articles and you'll B OK
this man came off extremly arrogant. bottom line i dropped after 2 classes and im a pretty decent student. dont take his class, its not fun to be called out in front of everyone. its not fun being belittled. his opinion is the only opinion that counts in that class. he made that clear on the very first day, just by the way he acted.
Dr R Michael Berrier was awesome. At first he seemed hard. Yes he expects a lot but as long as you do his work, you'll be ok. STUDY!! Read the NYTimes articles. For the tests make sure you study his articles and memorize important points! No test sheet! Your mind, blue book and pen is all you have! His material will stick to you!
Dr. Berrier expects his students to actually learn the material. If you want an easy course that requires no brain do not take him, however if you want to get something out of your education you should take him. I enjoyed his classes and would take him again if I could.
The worth profesor that i have ever met!!! do'nt take him no matter what!!!
No book needed. Overall a really great prof! Just read his essays and you will be fine! Really gives you an understanding of govt. and how it works. If you dont like going to class, don't take him, you'll miss alot. Be prepared to talk about what you think. If you stay in the class you'll be a pro and govt!! I passed 2301 and 2302 with an A :)
challenging and fantastic professor. the language skills of those who don't like him tell you a lot. he respects other opinions--he and i are political opposites and class discourse was high-level and respectful. be prepared to do a lot of writing, thinking, and talking about what you think. this is a real college course.
Great teacher, lectures well thought out and clear. Readings are online no texbook used and without modern age it makes life easier.
The grade comes from 6 tests, 10 essays, and one final. The essays are fairly easy to write (400 words or so) and so are the tests if you pay attention in class and write down what he's saying and read his essays on the internet (no book necessary). He practically writes out the *exact* answers for the test on the board -- you just need to memorize
Terrible. He is so rude I couldn't even believe it. He told one girl she needed to wake up because she didn't know the answer to his question. I dropped him because his assignments are unclear and unorganized and I got tired of being yelled at. I took Sanchez instead and loved him!
No book. Structures for his lectures are essays that he wrote online. There pretty much what's expected on the test. Test are essay form, but not bad, cause you basically rewrite his essay. 10 New York Times essays, really easy. His way of making you keep up with what's happening in the world. Got an A, would definitely recommend.
He gives you an outline to use for each of his tests, its up to you how well you do on each test because you have all the info for you to study-goes over outline in class prior to the test. writing intensive.

confuses his students!!!!!
He really hard and confuse students a lot and give unnecessary assignments to do and don't really explain things that good and takes essay in final and article every week.
Loved this class. Professor is smart and pretty cool. 5 tests consisting of 1 essay each time, which is given before hand. All you have to do is study his essay the night before and you will do fine. I got an A in the class and I never participated or stayed awake. He's really actually nice..
I found the class to be very interesting. This teacher walked out on the class once because he felt no one read the articles. If you take this teacher read his essays and use the same terminology he uses. If your essay answers do not say the same thing as his essay he will not give you full credit for your answer. Do not over think the subject.
He wore a bow-tie the first day of class. Hilarious. When it came to the content, he kept it simple, accurate, and unbiased. This, to me, is good because most Poli-Sci teachers are Democrats and aren't afraid to try to indoctrinate all the naive students. Although I could tell he was a liberal, he kept it low-key most of the time. Read & show up.
Dr. Berrier is awesome! :D i was a little bit intimidated i'm not gonna lie only bc he's really smart and good lookin ha but all you really have to do is read his essays and read the new york times oh and of course go to class! i would take him again if i needed 2302 but i took that at vista i dunno why but yeah. so take him!
Class is monotonous. Read HIS essays, discuss HIS essays, regurgitate HIS essays. Every test is entirely essay based. No prompt, just a blank Blue Book. This is a writing intensive course only at test time. If you can remember his essays and interpret/regurgitate it back in 50min, then this class will be a breeze. But if not, DO NOT TAKE!
His method of grading is whimsical, at best. The wanton style of a test being a blank bluebook with no prompt is frustrating, if not misleading. Students must read his essays and write essays back to him. Even if you cover all of the material, he may not like the order you cover it in. Don't take his classes.
I am an A student that enjoys working hard and learning. This teacher announces that he is an extreme liberal democrat then makes fun of anyone that doesn't agrees with him. He only grades by way of essays, which leaves it open to grade you at his whim. This was supposed to be state govt. he only has the class read the NY Times and his liberal essa
this is definitely a labor intensive class, but the information needed to pass your exams is handed to you on a silver platter. yes, all of his exams are essays based on info he's compiled, but he is also willing to share knowledge if cordially asked. these are COLLEGE courses, if you can't articulate your thoughts on paper, maybe you need to drop.
I've been in his class for three weeks now, and I still don't get it... Were required to read NYT Essays, then write about em. Lame. I'd would get somebody else, if I were you. Also, he can be kind of a jerk, which is whatever for me but I'm sure a lot of people would very much mind.
this teacher does not know how to teach .. he expects you to write an essay over things he doesnt teach. If i would have seen this page before registered for his class i would have never thought of taking his class... he makes goverment so boring that 50 min feels like 4 hours.
This is one of the hardest teachers I've ever had. He does not teach. I have had to google every question to our paper because he does not go over the material. I am going to have to retake government because I don't want a C average after the hard work I put in this class. I would not choose this professor again.
Having spent a number of years working for the government, I was horrified by how much misinformation this professor provided to his students. He taught from his own notes rather than a textbook - not surprising - he spoke so much rubbish. Over opinionated, ill educated and thinks far too much of himself.
Involves discussions, keeps your interested in the subject.
LOTS OF READING, wouldn't suggest taking him in the summer like I did, but I enjoyed his class, he tells you up front that he's a democrat and will say if it's his bias or how it is. didn't use a book, read from NYtimes, tests are ALL essay form suggestion...use the outline given and add details. LOTS of details
Very clear. Tests are written essays. He is helpful and involves class in discussions. Great class.
reallly realllyy simple class. first off you should take notes in the lectures because his essays are sometimes different from the lectures. basically he writes essays then asks you to paraphrase his essay for the tests he gives you. He even gives you outlines in the syllabus. The hardest part is paraphrasing all the material within the time limit.
His class discussions are really interesting but the class is just not worth it.The 6 quizes are 6 essays that you write in class in the 50 min session (hard to fit all the material he wants in that time-if you forget to mention one point he bumps it down a lettergrade). He has high expectations.Don't take for easy grade. Not the guy for that.
I really enjoy his class its work and his test are hard because they are essay but i will take his class again, i learned a lot.
This class was extremely challenging and overwhelming. Every friday, you use bring in an article from new york times and talk about it. You will have exams which he will ask you about how the govt the works and how it got started; learn your court cases:marbury v. etc..
You have to study and know court cases and describe them in your essays. Every essay has to be in full detail. You will not need a textbook, but will need an article every friday for class discussion, which the class will all discuss.
His class is very difficult. It is non-stop reading and writing. On the bright side though you don't have to buy a book. If you are looking for an easy class then this is not the one but if your looking for alot of work then you in luck!
I do not recommend this teacher. Class discussion could be interesting but I found this teacher to be very rude. I took him a few years ago. No text book used but tested on the essays he wrote. Tests were essay formate and you must use the same wording from his essay or you will receive a poor grade on the test. I finished the class with a B.
Not extremley easy but not something you couldn't do. Well spoken and even entertaining at times. I liked the class, even though i'm not doing so great in it...thats my doing.
His class is simple, every friday bring in a ny times article and listen to him rant. His test: Outline the chapter, memorize the hell out of it, show up to class, and in 50 min write a summary on the whole chapter from memory with no notes. Not to hard of a grader if you actaully studied. but every test is like this
Although this teacher was clear spoken and well informed I found him rude and strict. He did not make exceptions and was not understanding of student. He even insulted a student sitting next to me. Tests are all essays so READ the chapters. I do not reccomend this teacher if you do not like essays.
Very Horriable. Every friday must summerize a NYT article and may ask you to talke about. If your not used to taking notes without a book well thats what you will do. hell make you summerize any notes from the chapeter and the test is basiclly a whole summery of the chapter ugh its very overwhelming i dont think i made it out.
Dr. Berrier was the toughest professor I've ever had but I learned vast amounts of practical information about the integrity of our state government. Highly recommend if you like a challenge, not for those who want an easy A.
This teacher was a nightmare. All of his tests are essay format and he is very unclear. He is very rude and politically incorrect. He gets too personal with politics and has insulted many students including myself and made me and many other students feel stupid. He only cared about his opinion. He did not care about what the students had to say.
Read his reviews and I was hesitant to take him. Very funny guy.. I really enjoyed the class. He doesn't use the book, but the book follows his essays and makes the class way easier. Write about the main points you will pass. You can BS and still make a C. Oh yea, he drops your lowest test and lets you do one makeup. Overall great class!
He is stuck in his own ways. Only way to make an A in his class is to read his mind or you are a natural writer with his structure of the government. I felt like I learned a lot but his grading is very unreasonable. If you studied really hard on his first test that did not count toward a grade and did really bad on it, you should drop the class.
All his test are hand written essay's and many articles to read. It was difficult to understand how he wanted his outline. If your not good at writing essays then don't take this class.
A lot of people complain that he is a tough grader. But as long constantly take notes, and are willing to study even for a little a bit then you'll be A-OK. I passed the class with an A and didn't work as hard as I could have. Write a lot but let him know that you actually know what you're talking about. He's a great professor. You actually learn.

Doesn't make it easy for you, thats for sure. He's sarcastic at times but it just cracks me up. Didn't need the book. Lots of essays. lot of hard work. you should prob get a NYTimes subscription. Don't forget to tell them your a student for a discount. I like the way he used real world experiences to learn and tied them together. memorable class.A+
Hardest teacher I have taken at SAC. Put everything from the outlines he writes in class in your essay and ELABORATE! He is rude but don't let it get you down. Just plan to do a lot of work for this class if you're not an essay kind of person.
He's challenging, but has been my favorite professors so far. I loved his lectures and I felt that I gained so much knowledge during this course. If you expect to be coddled or for this to be an easy A, you should just change your major to gender studies, you special snowflake. However, if you want to be intellectually challenged, he's your man.
no multiple choice exams, entire grade is from essays that you take about every other week and could never figure out what to write to get an A, lectures can be messy and all over the place, not an easy A, not even an easy B
He is a teacher to get used to, and isn't for everyone. All the tests are essay tests done in class. He gives no extra credit, and you can only make up one missed test on the last day of class before finals. I recommend reading his thoughts when he gives articles to read. Attend class so that you can know what he wants on the test.
Worse teacher ever. You will do nothing but essays throughout the whole semester. Study hard? don't matter he will still give you a bad grade. NO EXTRA CREDIT. No matter how hard you try, you will never be good enough. First time in my college career receiving a C for a grade. I am very disappointed.
You will learn in this class. He pushes you to your potential. I am so glad I took this course. You will leave this class with so much knowledge printed in your brain.
Hes nice, but his lectures are confusing. No homework or assignment but his tests count for a lot. The final counts for 50%! Basically he draws on the board while talking and tries to demonstrate the connections of stuff. n thats about every class. He also has bad handwriting and is very messy
if you dont already know the content you are on your own. Doesnt give assignments only tests and they are all written and expects very detailed work.
For the love of God, do not take this guy. Think about why a PHd is teaching at a community college. No matter what you do you are not going to get anything above a B. His political bias is extremely pronounced and he dosent care. All of your essays are off HIS work. Never have I had such a horrible person in general stand infront of a class.

Tests are the only grade in class, an unnecessarily difficult grader. The details you miss for a better grade are a mystery because he does a poor job reinforcing what was missed. The essays need to be beyond immaculate with details he doesn't say in class, don't bother making your own conclusions as those are usually marked wrong. Obvious Tenure
He gives great information. If your not very interested in government and you don't care to read then stay far away from this class. Many things to read and every test you have to wright an essay for every test, it doesn't seem very hard but it is, just because of the way he grades.
Read his, "My thoughts on.." on canvas, study it for the exams, get an 80 & above. He gives you a lot to read but when i started just studying that i got better grades. Passed w a C bc i only discovered this more than halfway through the course. Expects you to read the readings b4 his classes. Gives a test every week/other week. Must know prompt
