His class is super fun. There's only 1 T.A. but it works out well for this class. You don't need a book cuz it's either online or you take notes. All memorization. I liked this class. Verrry interesting!

He makes the class very interesting and you need to go to lectures and discussions to fully comprehend the his class. He goes a little fast during lectures so u need to look at materials online later. No books required everything is on i learn.

He ROCKS! he's an extremely funny professor. the subject is intense(just alot of knowledge), but he's really nice, sarcastic, and makes learning about bugs like a time well spent. Definitely take it with him if you want to take entomology 10.

Great class, great instructor! Redak really cares that you understand the information and do well on the exams. He is no push over and expects you to work for the grade. I disagree with the earlier review. He is not bitter, he is actually friendly and helpful if you bother to talk to him.

Class has a lot of material, but Redak teaches it pretty clearly. It's not a hard class, just be ready to memorize a lot. If you can't, don't take ENTM. They're all like that. Lecture can be interesting and he'll gross you out with some of the insects. Tests are hard, but straightforward. Disc sucked because it was so far from campus. But, No book!

Gotta disagree with the comments below. He is pretty cool and very approachable. His tests are fair if you study. However, do not take the class if you are not serious about it. And he does gives + and - as I got one. Somebody below must be bitter with a bad grade!

Entomology is very hard class. Lots of memorization!

I sweat blood and tears for this class to get a B- but I actually enjoyed this class. He is a good lecturer and very helpful. Theres ALOT to memorize but just go to class and discussions regularly

i would have got a decent grade if the class was curved! its not so i got D+. test is directly from notes. notes very easy to take off powerpoints. there is no book so you must attend class for the notes because he doesnt post them. 3 mulitple choice exams, pretty hard, you must memorize everything to do good. if you mess up on them ur screwed!

Mr. Redak is THE BEST Entomology teacher in the world. His lectures are easy to understand, fun, (sometimes gross), but overall worth going to. He is very sarcastic, but he makes the class very enjoyable. Make sure to attend his lectures because he sometimes has pop quizzes. His test average. REMEMBER TO STUDY.

hes kind of funny and sarcastic, and his lectures are interesting but his class is tough. theres no curve so it makes it hard to do well. hes tests are hard and long, no book, you just have to go to lecture for the material. always go to discussion its part of ur grade(my mistake) i got a D in his class, then took it with Trumble and got an A.

This is the second time I have taken this class. Redak is so much better than the other guy! I would recommend Redak in an instant!

He was a VERY good teacher for how much material was covered in class. I wasn't interested in bugs at all before but he made it more fun than it actually is. You really should go to class because if you just try to do it on your own you're just making life harder for yourself. and he's funny!

very simple, go to every class, take the notes, study it(all of it) and you should be fine. I think the only difficult part is studying because it is a lot of information, but overall it was a pretty darn good class, better than I thought it would be when I read that everyone said it was a hard class.

Prof. Redak's class was a pleasure to attend! I took this science class because of basic requirements, but ended up loving it and wanting to attend lecture every day. Plus, I always got a good laugh at his sense of humor :D

The class is interesting, he has a sense of humor, and lecture is interesting. If you are looking for an easy class but don't feel like memorizing anything, this is not the class for you. There is a lot of memorization, and I mean a lot! Find other courses to take instead, you'll find you have learned a lot but then the material becomes useless.

Absolutely loved the class. It was hard, definitely, but was a joy to attend. Even with a lot of hard work, I was barely able to pull off a B-, but nonetheless it was one of the funnest classes so far. Loved the class, just wish it didn't hurt my GPA.

Amazing professor!!! Very clear in lectures, funny guy too! Do all the problem sets and work in discussion. All the material you need to know may seem like a lot, but don't be discouraged. Anyone saying the class is too hard probably didn't study for exams. Exams are straight forward. I got C's on the midterms and an A on the final. B+ overall.

No text book, he's clear in lecture, BUT YOU MUST ATTTEND LECTURE TO PASS THE CLASS. MUST ATTEND DISCUSSION TO PASS THE CLASS. Weekly quizes online= easy. But your have to remember WAAYY to much in this class. You learn about 80 bugs and have to memorize 5+ facts about each one. Dont take as a breathe course it will stress your life out

This professor loves his profession so he is really enjoyable. He talks about beer a lot but he makes the class enjoyable. A lot to memorize but overall interesting and enjoyable lower division.

I have him for Biology 5B right now and he is honestly so amazing - his sarcasm and wit make biology at 9am bearable and actually really fun. He wants all of his students to succeed and he will help you out if you just ask. He helped me improve my studying tactics and overall approach to the sciences so much! Great guy and awesome Professor!

The Best - I have two favorite professors at UCR and Dr. Redak is one of them. He has challenged me so much and it's been a tough quarter/tough class, but he has really helped me grow. He's hilarious and very helpful. I wish he could teach me all my upper divs. Amazing guy and teacher!!

One of the easiest breadth requirements you can take. Just be really good at memorizing names and details and you'll pass. There's a lot of material covered, but he goes over it pretty well. He likes to gross students out by his analogies to food which kinda is funny cuz the class is usually before or after lunch. Awesome professor

Pretty easy class but there's a lot of material to memorize. Make sure to go to discussions even though it's far as hell. Might make or break your grade in the end. Lectures are straightforward. But I didn't take much notes and just relied on the web based material and it was enough. (P.S. pools are a good place to find bugs)

For someone who doesn't like insects I LOVED this class. He makes it so interesting, learning about the lives and interactions of insects, and section was so fun too! Take this as your bio requirement.

Redak is a good teacher. He does have long powerpoints, but they give you a good sense of what you need to study before exams. Yes, very few people get A's and B's, but this is the weeder class for pre meds, so my advice is to survive with a B- or better. Midterms are bearable, but the final is long and hard. I ended up with a B- with a 75%.

Bio 5B is notorious for being hard regardless of the professor, but I found Redak to be very clear and a great professor to guide along the hell that is Bio 5B. His powerpoints are cut and dry and his tests are purely based off that. don't bother with the textbook Just be ready to study. You have to. If you're premed, here's your first test.

He's to the point and clear. He makes insects interesting and only says what we need to know. There's memorization needed to pass but it's so interesting it wasn't hard (use flashcards). Attendance is a must. You only have to do 1/2 of clicker questions to get full credit for clickers. I would retake this course, it made me love insects!

As a professor, he's really funny and makes the lectures interesting. He has dry humor and reminds me a lot of Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec. He's a really reasonable guy but the class made me put in a good amount of studying. It isn't hard, just a lot to remember. Made me appreciate insects.

Good professor. Straight and to the point. Class is difficult but as long as you stay on top of lectures and memorize the important orders, parts, etc. You will do good. This is not a class to take just for the hell of it.

This class isn't a class to take "just to get a breadth out of the way" though. Make sure you go to lectures because the exams are straight from the slide but the PPTs cannot be found anywhere else. Really interesting and funny! Would take another class taught by him.

Redak is good at his lectures, however, he tends to just explain exactly what is written in his lecture slides + a little extra information. It's important to go to lectures only to know what's more important to study in a chapter. Otherwise, it's a mostly self studying class. The exams are straightforward and accurately reflect the material.

Dr. Redak is a great professor. His comedic side really shows during class and his ability to teach is up to par. I would take his class again. However, I did not know he refused to curve the class, even though the testing averages were very poor. That is my only critique, but he's a great professor and I'd take a class by him again.

Dr. Redak provided me with a great deal of energy in the morning. Though there is a GREAT deal of information to memorize, you will do fine assuming you read the lecture slides DAILY. The class lives up to its name, so don't be lazy, and head to his office hours whenever you can! Anyways, good luck, you are gonna need it *evil laugh*.

MEMORIZE! MEMORIZE! MEMORIZE! That is all you have to do in the class because there is literally so much material. You need to put in the effort outside of class because listening to him and reading the slides once will not get the job done. Redak, however, is an AMAZING teacher and is very helpful during office hours. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!

Redak's tests are hard. Many people said this class is memoralization-based, but that is only part of it. You need to know the concepts and apply them. He does curve a little (a few points) by the end despite saying no curve.

One thing I love is that Redak posts so much material on Ilearn, so even if you miss something in class, the web readings are practically everything you need to know. The tests are straight forward, and he doesnt try to trick you. Yes its a lot of info, cus theres a ton of bugs! Not a class to study for two hours before exam. Its really not bad

Clearly a very knowledgeable professor, but this is absolutely a class that you want to stay on top of. The bulk of your grade is based on two tests and a final. The class is very reliant on memorisation. The best strategy is to make flashcards and write your own notes. You'll need a lot of cards, but that is what saved my grade ultimately.

Took his class online during Spring 2020. Great professor. He's straight forward and tells you everything you need to know for the test. Lectures > Textbook because his tests are based on what he talks about. Like he and everyone says, its a lot of memorization and understanding of topics, so you definitely get what you put in.

This class was super interesting but the only thing is that you have to really make yourself study because there is a lot of information and some of the important information on tests is not on the power point slides but its said in class so definitely study because there is a lot of memorization

Prof. Redak is a fantastic lecturer. Yes, you will have to put in the work to memorize the material, as there is a LOT. However, doing the readings and watching the videos were very helpful and if you do those two things as well as attend lecture, you'll be fine. Study from both the PowerPoints AND the readings. Redak tells you exactly what to focus on during lecture. His lectures are useful and very entertaining. He does not post recordings of his lectures but he does post the slides. If you don't go to lecture you probably won't do as well. His tests are easy and super reasonable. He also likes to say the word dinky a lot.

When I took this class I was not locked in at all but jeez it was hard. Most of the class is business students who just want to get their bio requirement, but its really frusturating getting my gpa tanked for a class that has nothing to do with business. Redak definitely is an expert in his field but everyones opinion seemed to be it was too hard.
