Dr. Fisher makes this class very enjoyable with the energy he brings to this class. Other professors that I have had did not seem as interested in the material as Dr. Fisher which makes the learning experience very enjoyable. He takes his time with the material instead of trying to cram as much info as possible in the ten weeks.

I love this class! I took ASTR 121 last tem and hated it. I studied hours over 40 pages of materials but still did not get good grades. But this class, even though we are not covering as much, I'm soaking in everything Dr. Fisher has been teaching! Def. recommend it!

He is extremely engaged in class and often has really entertaining rants about the things that are most passionate to him about astronomy. Overall he is a great Professor and just really wants everyone to not be afraid of science.

A TERRIFIC professor. He's basically a human wikipedia with anything related to space. He has so much passion for teaching and helping students understand astronomy. He is not an "easy" teacher, but if you go to class, do the hw, read the book, and participate there is no reason why anyone should not get an A. 100% recommend him for any class.

Dr. Fisher is incredibly passionate about astronomy. He has never taught before but is incredibly invested in being the very best he can. He offers a lot of help out of class and extra credit. I've neve been a fan of science. However I had an absolute blast in this class. Dr. Fisher knows everything there is to know about space and he is incredibly willing to let us in on spaces little secrets. Seriously. Take this class you won't be disappointed.

Amazing Class

Best teacher in three years of college; in my top three teachers of all time. Regardless of your interest level in astronomy, you should definitely take a class with Dr. Fisher. It's an experience. He's not easy, but he's fair, and genuinely cares about student learning. Occasionally comes across as a criminal mastermind, but in a good way.

Fisher is one of those rare professors that you wish taught all of your classes. Very accessible, animated, and excited (and knowledgeable) about astronomy. Makes you excited about science even if you don't like it much. Class is easy if you show up and do the [very simple] homework. Graded fairly. Very highly recommend him!

Probably my favorite teacher here at UO. He understands that it's an into to astronomy course and teaches it that way. No math or physics, just an abundance of interesting and important information about our universe and our place in it.

What people are saying is true! There is a scientist on campus igniting a flame of science literacy into the heart of UO students. He teaches about the same material regardless of the course number. So if you really wanted to learn about the planets you might be disappointed when we never got to them. What material he does present is fantastic!

Dr. Fisher is the man! He isn't really focused on teaching you astronomy, as he is on getting you stoked about astronomy. Most of his lectures are him showing you really cool space related photos, and then explaining the science behind it. The tests are slightly harder than you'd expect but not bad at all. He just really wants to make the class fun

Fisher is awesome and chill. Astr 121 is a cool class in general but sometimes the subject matter can be boring. However, Fisher makes everything a good time. Class is an easy A but most of the stuff on tests are from his lectures, so it's not a good idea to skip too much.

Scott Fisher is probably one of the best professors on campus. He's engaging and hilarious - kids actually laugh at his jokes. I actually enjoyed going to class, because his lectures are so fun and interesting. I'm definitely no astrophysicist, but I loved this class. Definitely definitely take this course with Fisher!!!

Hands down the best professor I have ever had. I took this class not expecting anything because I needed a science credit but Fisher changed my outlook on Earth and space. Never have I met someone more passionate about a topic and on top of that he really wants you to do well and take something away from the class. He's an awesome guy too!

He is the funniest professor I have ever had, and clearly knows exactly what he's talking about when it comes to astronomy. He made the class so interesting and something that I didn't mind going to three days a week. Also, a large amount of extra credit is given throughout the term and the tests are curved so the class is not too challenging.

Fisher aka. Our King (as he calls himself) is a great asset to the UO's staff. He's a great professor, fun and engaging and always ready to make things in class interesting. He's also a part of the science literacy program which means he gears his class towards people who want to learn but aren't very good with math or deeper physics.

Dr. Fisher explains the wonders of the universe in a fun, simple way. Easy A, but I learned a lot. 55 would recommend to anyone interested in learning about cosmic perspective.

Very easy class, if you're enrolled you will pass. Funny and good lecturer but goes on long rants that have no point. So much extra credit, you don't have to past the tests.

Dr. Fisher is one of the best professors at the University of Oregon! He doesn't seem to really care about grades, his main intention is for students to start liking science again. He gives enough extra credit that you it is very likely that you will have over 100% by the end of the term.

Fisher is by far the BEST professor I've had at UO. I've never been good at science, but he makes astronomy incredibly interesting and accessible without including math. He wants the best for all of his students (his "peeps") and helps them become thoughtful, critical thinkers, rather than just focusing on grades. Amazing person; take his class.

BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. The lectures are fun to attend, but if you miss a few classes it is no big deal. Science is normally a scary thing, but Dr. Fisher makes it fun, exciting, and not scary at all. This class doesn't take a lot of time and it is very interesting. You will learn valuable info and your perspective on life will grow.

This class was a lot of fun. Dr. Fisher is engaging and keeps you interested even with the 2 hour long lecture period. The book was used for homework on occasion but for the most part if you showed up to class and took good notes you should be fine. The copious amounts of extra credit opportunities were great and were simple to do. Great Class!

If you want an easy class with a even easier teacher take this class. If the school offers multiple ASTR courses with Fisher take them. Boost GPA with minimal effort. Plus you will actually learn something interesting.

Honestly I had to take ASTR to fulfill a group requirement for my BA but Scott Fisher has been one of my favorite professors I've had in my 3 years of college. He was funny and straightforward about the class and all that- but he is so passionate about astronomy and just getting his students to be as well. He was amazing and changed science for me

Oh man, where do I start? I don't think I've ever met a teacher as passionate and invigorating as Scott. Such a great guy; an even better astronomer. It's interesting to learn from someone who actually has real experience as an astronomer. Only thing that sucks is that he has never actually been to outer space.

Dr. Fisher is super great!! There were about 5 homework assignments the whole term and 3 tests. He's really good at meeting you on your level. If you want to pass his class, you will. He is always available to talk outside of class. Would recommend him to anyone and I'm planning on taking him again in 121!

Fisher is INCREDIBLE. Im a junior this year and have taken so many different classes but if you were to take one class at UO, it would be ASTR 121/122 with Dr. Fisher. You learn about the grand scale of the world you live in. You ever watch a Neil deGrasse Tyson video, and you get goosebumps from the shear astonishment? Yeah, this class does that!

Take his lower division ASTR classes. You will never look at the world again. You will look up at the night sky in awe, you will begin to understand life beyond the biological level, but the astronomical level. His lectures are some of the most inspiring I've attended, and my mind was blown and had goosebumps of astonishment on a weekly basis.

Fisher is definitely one of the best teachers I've had at the University of Oregon. He is super approachable, hilarious, and always has your best interest at heart. I thoroughly enjoyed going to his office hours to get feedback on my tests and to just talk about astronomy stuff. He is super passionate about teaching and an all around amazing guy.

Professor Fisher is by far the greatest professor I have ever had the pleasure of taking a class from. He is incredibly intelligent and so so passionate about Astronomy. Basically, if you show up to class and put a mild effort into paying attention, you're gonna pass with flying colors. It's not too hard to pay attention, either. He's very energetic and enthusiastic about the subjects he talks about. I don't think I'll ever love anything as much as this man loves space.

The homeworks are essays but they're easy to do. Lots of extra credit opportunities that are actually fun. He puts all of his powerpoint slides online right after class. Will take again

Hands down best professor Ive had. He is aware that 90% of the class didnt know anything about astronomy so he teaches the class in a way that it is very beginner and straightforward (no BS). Exams are EXTREMELY easy (I got 90-100% on all of them). Lectures are like fun/interesting TED talks. Memorize lecture slides & youll ace the exams!

Professor Fisher is the best professor I have ever had. I say this because he is really passionate and takes pride in his teaching. He keeps lectures engaging, interesting and really easy to follow. The class consists of 4 homework assignments, and 3 midterms. The midterms are easy as you just have to study his class slides!

I took this class as a sophomore to meet the University's science requirement. I am by no means interested in science in any way, but Prof. Fisher's class was one of the better ones I've taken. His lectures were engaging, he clearly loves and adores astronomy, and is so so passionate about teaching and engaging with students.

I was a little concerned about taking an astronomy class since I'm not much of a science person but Dr. Fisher taught me a lot and made it super enjoyable. Attendance wasn't mandatory but I didn't miss a single lecture just because it was my favorite class. His classes are considered some of the easiest at UO but they're way too under appreciated!

Very kind man. Cares a lot about the class but doesn't treat it like an upper division class, understands that most of us were taking it for a science credit. Easy A but I learned a lot and really enjoyed it. He's really fun and nice and passionate. Didn't feel like a 400 person class. He made personal connections with me and all of my friends.

I mean he is famous. The best professor ever. I hated space before. After taking his class. Space is one of my main thing in life. I read about the news of space etc. I graduated in Fall 19. He grades every assignment and leaves video messages as comments about the assignment because of COVID and us no being able to be in person, a 300 person class that is insane. I wan him to teach more classes because I love him so much!

Online web class, with a short quiz after each lecture. Quizzes were super easy with all answers on the slide shows. Lectures were short and easy to follow and entertaining. Overall easy and interesting class.

Dr. Fisher is a true legend. I have slim to no intentions of going anywhere near astronomy or the science world. However, despite my low interest, Dr. Fisher is probably the only professor that can make me feel like I want to learn more. His lectures (which are online rn) are one of a kind and makes you want to watch them. He is very caring.

Fisher is a great professor, but he is by no means "the best at Oregon." The workload is decent, just 3 lecture videos per week with (sometimes unfair) quizzes, 5 easy homework assignments, 2 midterms, and a final. While he's very inspiring, he often goes off on tangents that aren't relevant to the material, which can make the videos hard to watch.

I can't begin to describe how amazing of a professor Scott Fisher is. I never write things on rate my professor but I'm doing it now to encourage everyone at UO to take ASTR 122 when you're here. Besides being an easy A this is a truly mind-blowing class and he genuinely just wants all his students to be excited about astronomy as he is. TAKE IT!!!

He loves to crack jokes and he cares about his students' success. Little to no readings, two exams (midterm and final), short quizzes, and about five homework assignments.

Don't graduate UO without taking ASTR 122 with Fisher! He's so inspirational and passionate about astronomy and science. Tests and quizzes are all multiple choice (all online and open-book), though you won't need to look at your notes. Everything he tests on is stuff he covered repeatedly. One of the easiest classes at Oregon and is a must!
