Rachel is a tuff, take no bull **** kinda gal. She is definitely cool and is willing to help out all of her students when they need it. She is the BEST!!!!!!!!
bell has such a great attitude and that goes a long way in my bk. she is super helpful and she picks interesting bks to read. get your papers edited by a tutor and you'll do fine in her class, I got an A but I spent a lot of time in the learning center with tutors
Rachel was a great teacher. She's fair in grading, and her work is challenging. She chooses literature worth discussing. She's really what you look for in all of your teachers. I was lucky to have her for 2 semesters when she first started at Skyline.
has particular style she likes students to write in. very hard grader, but a great class for dedicated english and journalism majors.
Good Themes and class discussion, and lot's of work. Is unclear on expectations & after going to her several times couldn't get an A. First time not getting an A in ENG, even though I was the only person to get A on inclass 8 page midterm essay. I regret taking her & feel cheated out of an A. She did not help, & I still don't know what she wants.
Lots of homework. Lots of reading... too much reading. expects way too much for this class level. She talks a lot.
she sounds ok at first, but after a while it gets crazy. she expects too much and makes you read A LOT. i got a 79% in that class and it's one of the hardest english courses ive taken. if u enjoy reading, take her course. if not, then i dont suggest u take her course.
She's very knowledgable and has a genuine concern for helping her students grow academically. Take her class if you want to LEARN. She passed me with a C but I gained a lot of knowledge in her course.
THIS TEACHER IS GREAT TEACHER. I HAVE EVER SEEN A GOOD TEACHER LIKE HER. I ENJOYED EVERY MOMENT IN HER CLASS AND I WAS NEVER APSENT. WE READ AND WRITE AND DO HOMEWORK ALOT BUT WE GO OVER IT IN CLASS TO MAKE IT EASIER ON US.
She is a very good teacher. She demands alot out of you but she only wants you to become a better writter. The only advise I can give is do all the reading and the papers. If dont turn in one paper you cant pass the class. Other then that this class is a breeze, you just have to be willing to work.
She is a nice person, but acts as if her class is the only one that there is...she makes her students work as if the class is worth 6 units instead of 3. she is not at all understanding when a student has a personal situation.
She grades extremely tough for an online course and does useless busy work. Don't take her if you have a life. Even if you write well, you will not get an A.
REALLY GREAT TEACHER. She interacts with the whole class and makes the subject interesting. She really cares about helping you become a better writer so the grading is a bit hard. Tests are all essays. Only bad thing is that she makes you buy a lot of books--but then again you can always borrow from the library.
I really liked this class but I had to drop near the end of the semester due to personal reasons. I was really disappointed.
Wow. I've always passed English classes with A's, but I struggled for a C in her class and did not miss one assignment. She's basically the HARDEST grader ever, seriously. She bases her class more on political agendas than anything else. Do youself a favor and do NOT take English with her. She's hardly clear with her expetations on essays.
The most difficult class that I have ever taken. She does not give A's, no matter how hard you try. And believe me, you will work your butt off. Not worth the effort.
not clear in what she requires from her calendar of due dates, especially from papers she wants edited. if you do not edit a paper, even if it needs minimal improvement, she will give you a score of 0.
Easily the most enjoyable class I have ever taken. Mastery of the language is second to none. No effort is spared in meeting the need of the student and in ensuring all tools are provided to facilitate a happy outcome
worst class i have ever taken in my life, don't take this class if you can avoid it! You will work the hardest you have ever studies and still not get an A. For online students she assigns a collaborative paper at the end of the semester, it's the most useless and difficult paper. BAD BAD BAD TEACHER!!!
Wow, seems like a lot of sour grapes on this site. I thought Ms. Bell was one of the most outstanding and caring teachers I've had so far. I learned a lot in this class and she was always willing to work with me in office hours which I appreciated. Hard grader but fair. Great class discussions and interesting reading. Glad I got to take this class.
Her online classes are a huge pain, she requires multiple group projects in an online class. Including a Power Point presentation that is done in groups of 10. One bad person in the group and you get screwed. Has her own terrible text book, requires all papers in her own non-MLA format. I highly recommend that you avoid taking any of her classes.
I worked hard for a B in this class. Don't know what people are talking about with the MLA in the class. It was the same rules I used at State and before than in high school. We read a lot of books which was hard to keep up with and we had to write a paper every 2 weeks but I feel like I improved. I wish I did get an A in the end though.
this teacher is very hard i had taken her class when she first started working at Skyline and ended up taken her class agian for english 110 online. she is very difficult and it almost seems as if she is punishing you for taking a online class she gives you alot of work.do not take her class dont not
One of the most difficult classes I have. Regret not reading the reviews about this professor before signing up. This class is good if you want twice the work for the same amount of credit for one class.
The worst professor I've ever had. She gives useless assignments and her feedback is not helpful. All she does is ask a bunch of rhetorical questions without giving concrete suggestions for improvement. I signed for the class at the last minute and hers was the only one available. Now I know why. All the other good professors were filled.
Worst English teacher ever. I worked very hard in this class and got a C which was a first for me when it comes to English. I had a lot of friends in the class and no one got anything higher than a B. When she hands back a paper she types her comments separately. My first paper back her comments we longer than my actual paper. Thats a problem.
..... No words to say
She'll tell you everything up front. You have to definitely read the books. The books are interesting. Every 2-3 days there is assignments. She always reads her emails. This was an online course I took. I wish I had more time in my hands to take this class. Would definitely take her class again. Very nice teacher.
She's a cool teacher and is chill but she's super hard when it comes to grading essays. Her quizzes are pretty easy and the class can be fun but she gives lots of reading and she's a hard grader.
Although she is a very hard grader, Rachell helps a lot if you ask. I recommend to read all the books & do all assignments. Very interesting choice of books. Take this class if you are not afraid of a lot of work.
She's a very good teacher and knows her stuff except her online classes are so much work. I don't recommend taking her online classes if you have more than 3 classes and hold a full time job. Take her class if you have enough time to keep up with her work, It's a lot of work!
This instructor cares more about making sure that her students do not get away with anything than anything else. (including that they learn anything) Her policies are ALL designed to make things as inconvenient and tedious as possible.
Entirely inflexible, unwilling to make ANY changes to due dates or logistics. VERY picky. I have a 3.5 GPA over all, but I had a hard time getting an A on ANY assignment. Lots of stupid busy work. Assignments due every day or so. Very worried that someone might get away with something. Very annoying experience overall.
She is the most strict teacher on papers. I have never got a C on a paper ever and she has given me 3 of them. Her online classes a lot of work.
if you enjoy monotone podcasts for 30 minutes, sign up for this class asap. she dicsusses the homework for half the class and plays her annoying podcasts the rest of it. she is extremely strict on grading papers. i do NOT recommend her.
She is really helpful and my writing skill developed a lot, however, she is really tough grader on essay. It's really HARD to get A in her class. REALLY.
Rachel is a extremely good teacher. She tells you upfront that her class requires a lot of work, and harder than most english 1 b classes that are offered at school. But she is very helpful and she is a fair grader. Just do all your assignments on time and stay on top of it. Overall she is very helpful, and responds to emails right away.
Professor Rachel Bell is one of the hardest professors I have ever had. She expects far too much for college freshmen just out of Highschool. She claims to teach the student how to right but in all she just nitpicks over every little detail of the essay, to the point where you point out one off topic detail in an essay she Fails it. Do not take her
Professor Bell is dedicated to her students. She has quickest response time, when compared to my other professors. She is engaged with her students and always offers help. Her class is one of the best online classes that I ever took. It made a difference for me and now, I am more comfortable to write papers. It was a great career investment for me.
Please don't waste your time, you will be disappointed by the end of the semester no matter how hard you work in her class. She expects way too much, she's a very hard grader. Not worth the time and effort. If you take her, good luck, you'll understand exactly what I mean.
With all due respect, Rachel has high expectations of her students and expects them to figure out things on their own. She's not very helpful which is important because English teachers should give more attention to their students when it comes to writing.
As long as you read the the books assigned and keep up to date in the class you will be fine. Also if you have any questions go directly to her because she always finds time to clarify anything you need. She truly cares about each of her students. Overall I highly recommend!
Professor Bell might not be the easiest grader although she clearly outlines everything for you in each assignment. Also if you ever have any questions or need any help she's always willing to make time for an appointment. She truly cares about every single student she has. Overall I highly recommend her!
This class is not easy but Prof. Bell is extremely helpful!!! If you expect to BS your way through this class, you will fail. She grades accordingly. She expects COLLEGE LEVEL work. She provides all the tools and support you will need. YOU have to put in work. My best advice is: COMMUNICATE. If you have a question, don't be afraid to ASK!
Prof. Bell is a good professor. The work may seem much at first, but she always takes the time to make sure all the assignments are clear to everyone. Also, she will take extra time out of her day if you're having trouble in her class. All you have to do is ask. Even though I only got a B, I felt satisfied about it. Take her!
I do not recommend this class. She is an extremely tough grader and expects students to be at the same level she is on. Needs to understand students are not trying to become English professors but rather trying to get their GE's done. Students read other students drafts and give feedback rather than she reading them herself.
The class was pretty easy and clean cut, all assignments are listed on the main page. The only thing I didn't like was how the professor didn't give feedback on any of the rough draft essays to better the final drafts. Instead, she required other students to comment on things that needed to be corrected. kind of like the blind leading the blind.
She is a genuine teacher who knows what shes doing and reading. Shes nice, very helpful (even if you dont do the work) and unbiased. She changes the books every semester so its something new and relevant to read on. The books are essential to pass, you actually use them and go through them alot. Group projects are fun, lectures are long.
This class is not easy. If you want to get an A in this class you have to work your tail off from the start. Literally. She grades hard on the very first essay and isn't as clear as she could have been on her expectations(her expectations are REALLY high). If you like a challenge then I recommend this class . You will become a better writer.
I am a straight A student all my life and English for me is easy. On all my HW and assignments in this class, I get a 100. Every time. But on EXAMS? She would tear your paper apart without telling you what you did wrong, without helping you correct it. She gave me 78 on my midterms. I sought her feedback and rewrote it, she gave me a 79. Brutal.
Her class is hard because she's a tough grader and assigns a lot of reading. I think she has extremely high expectations. Yet, she is really helpful and dedicated to teaching. If you ask for help she'll give you what you need. She's all for improving your writing. But this class is NOT an easy A, you really have to work for it.
I loved all the books she picked out for this semester because they were really interesting and you can apply it to everyday life. What I did not like was the color coding of EVERYTHING and she makes you read and critique other peers papers. Get ready to read like your life depends on it. She is a super tough grader. I can't express that enough.
Rachel is an excellent teacher, she is very passionate about English and really wants her students to take as much from the class as they can. Very helpful always reminding her students that if they want extra help , shes always available for her them. She is a tough grader but that's honestly the best way to learn. She's great at what she does.
Professor Bell is the best professor I have ever had. She is an incredible teacher who is extremely educated in her field and is a wonderful lady overall. She is always prompt with responding to emails- no matter what day of the week or time of the day- and is extremely dedicated to helping her students succeed. I recommend taking her class.
No matter how much you change up your writing according to feedback, it's just not good enough. You can stay at a limbo low grade because nothing seems to satisfy her enough regardless how hard you try and communicate to that her wants are not clear. Prepare for your hard work to be shot down because she doesn't understand you.
There is no room for creativity, she will not allow you to have your own ideas, but wants you to mirror her way of writing . Feedback is useless, when you take it in, make the changes, it's still not enough.
WORST professor ever, I would never take her again, TOUGH grader specially on essays and she never gives feedback, so there is no way you can improved your grade, miss a minute for the homework don't expect to get any credit for it.
Mrs. Rachel Bell is an outstanding professor with a clear, focused goal of helping her students surpass themselves. She has much patience as well as is always eager to help her students succeed. Her course is not simply an "Oh. English." class, but, rather, is a class that has a theme to teach students about themselves and the world around them.
A great teacher, I feel I have really improved my writing, and the stories we read in class strengthen my understandings about materialized people and helped clear some unknowns. Especially Sexual Metamorphosis and the the Asian American Plays. She's a very approachable personality and was a great speaker easily keeps you engaged.
I would NOT advise anyone to take a class with this teacher. There is so much reading and writing on topics that don't help or improve your learning or writing. I wish I never took this class.
I took her online class and it was super stressful. She's a good teacher and knows that she is doing but the work load is too much. Its almost like she's inconsiderate of the other classes you have and only gives you a day to read a section from the book and do a response every time. And she makes you do responses to others every time which I hated
My experience with Professor Bell's online class has been average. She is kind and will make an effort to answer any of your questions. The work load is pretty heavy, especially if you have a busy schedule to begin with. My biggest concern is with the grading of the final essay, very hard grader and does not leave room for personal opinions.
Rachel cares a lot about her students and gives great feedback. I definitely, recommend going to office hours or making an appt. She will give you wonderful one on one help to improve your writing. She is very big on analysis and wants you to challenge you as a writer. She is a great communicator so don't feel scared to ask her about anything.
Bell prepares you for University level work and has high expectations. Although she is a tough grader she is open to helping her students during office hours. She wants you to dig deeper in your analysis and the reading may seem extraneous to those who are not used to reading regularly. I enjoyed the material we covered this semester as well.
Rachel is a challenging teacher that makes sure you will be a stronger writer after taking her class! She prepares you well for the writing required at a four year college. She gives excellent detailed feedback on your writing. I am so glad I took her class!!
She's really cool and doesn't assign much homework. 4 major essays are 70% of grade.
PLEASE DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. If you take her class you are going to ruin your GPA. It is a nightmare because no matter how hard you work, you are going to get a D or C. She is an extremely hard grader.
Rachel is the definition of how a college professor should be. She is a tough grader and is more than happy to give detailed feedback if you ask. Her grading can be intimidating, but if you use her examples, Purdue Owl (MLA format), and watch the writing videos from Shadiversity on YouTube you'll have a much easier time. Don't slack, be attentive.
Don't take this class! i thought online classes where meant to be easy since I'm busy outside of work. Homework was due every other day! Don't take this class!
I took Rachel for English 100 & 110. She is a great professor and will make you a better writer. This is not an easy A course you will need to work hard if you want a good grade. I love English and writing Id recommend this course to those who are willing to put in the work and are looking to improve their skills.
While Professor Bell demands much of her students, if you put forth the effort and show you care about doing well she absolutely goes the extra mile to help you succeed. I highly recommend utilizing her office hours, as she gives detailed feedback on your work and how to become a better writer. If you want to be a better writer, take her class! :)
English is one of the easiest subjects for me. Rachel is a tough professor she'll make you work for an A/B and help you become a better writer if your writing skills aren't so strong. It's easy to pass the course but you have to work hard for a A/B. Make sure to do the readings.
Professor Bell really cares about her students, her papers are difficult, but that is a good thing. She wants to see all of her students succeed, and she gives really good feedback on all the papers you do in the class. I don't know why she gets a bad rep, I personally really liked her, and she really helped me to improve on my writing.
I took Professor Bell's class for both English 100 and English 110. I love her style, everything is organized and easy to follow. The hardest grading is on the essays and peer reviews, if you do all the assignments and decent on your essays you should be good. She responds quickly and gives good feedback. I really enjoyed her classes.
Its not like a ton of work (lit class), it is response work done from reading which are easily graded. HOWEVER, the essays she is SUPER hard on!! i only did semi-well sometimes because i would always ask for clearer feedback but even then her feedback doesnt make sense and you have to do EXACTLY what she feels is right to get a B-C at best.
Professor Bell is a fabulous instructor who gives great feedback, is very helpful and kind, grades quickly and makes great effort to help you succeed. She is a real professor who wants to see you improve and be successful. This is not an easy class. It challenges your skills as a thinker and a writer which is a good thing!
Everything is structured very poorly. There is no reason whatsoever to having a summer pace course in the spring semester. Every assignment is lumped together, giving students no breathing room. I could honestly handle this if she didn't grade peer feedback so harshly. If you don't completely dismantle the other persons essay, you will get a C.
I took Prof. Bell's fast track course. She makes you work, she gives 2 late passes the whole semester. 5 essays, and 4 books to be read. You will have to write a lot but it's manageable. If you show effort you will pass. Don't miss deadlines not even few minutes late! Do assignments on time and you will pass with a A,B,C. You can't fail this class!
Rachel was the best professor I've had in Skyline. English 110 was my favorite English class all semester. This class has really inspired me to read more! She assigns 4 readings based on a theme, and believe me, I am not much of a reader, but I really enjoyed each read. Rachel is a very caring professor and I appreciated her and this class a lot!
If you try, and you can write at a decent high school level (A in high school english), you'll probably get an A at this class too.
I highly recommend going to office hours because then you will definitely pass the class with an A- to an A. While the prompts may seem daunting and grading can be scary at first (be prepared to get a C on your first paper) , if you are willing to improve you will end up with 1. a lot of extra credit 2. an A
Professor Bell is a tough grader but it is for your own benefit. Just ask to meet with her for essay feed back and apply her feed back to your papers and you will get an A, and improve on your writing skills.
Took the 10 weak short course. There are fewer readings than a semester but they are considerably long. Meet with Professor Bell and learning center tutors to get feed back and apply it on your major essays and you will pass this class. I would have rather have taken to full semester length course.
Professor Bell is really kind. She will try her best to help you and always reply to emails really fast. If you join her office hours, she will give really good feedbacks that will be very useful when writing a paper. As long as you attend her office hours and participate in class dicussions, you can pass and get a really good grade.
Zero respect for her students' time. Assignments due Mon the week they're posted, limited-time quizzes when most people are working, and only 2 "late tickets" per semester (which you can't use for quizzes.) Assigned reading is poorly written, full of unsourced claims and manipulated data. Save yourself the headache.
I took her online course and she assigns a reading and makes you answer a question and responds to 2 peers. The reading was not too much but not little. She makes you turn an an outline and rough draft when it is time to write essays. She grades peer reviews and essays harshly. However, she is very accessible and helpful when you reach out to her.
Before Ms. Bell's class, I was insecure about my writing skills, I didn't dare to write anything - not even short sentences. I took this class b/c it was a pre-req for getting into dental hygiene & I'm glad I did b/c I'm confident in my writing skills now. Had it not been for Ms. Bell,I wouldn't have survived hygiene b/c there were SO MANY papers!
Rachel can be a tough grader with essays. So, expect your first essay for her to be either a B or C. But don't worry, she will help you improve your writing! If you have the time, set up office hours with her or talk to her after class if you need help with your papers. This helped me get A's on my essays.
