Her lectures were good & had interesting points, but failed to be of much aid. Just go to class and study the book before tests. I ended up doing really well with that method.

Davenport is the best professor. Do not let the bad reviews fool you!!! She reads off the slides but her questions for the exam are from there as well, that is a good thing! As long as you go and ask for her help you will PASS! I made an A and just studied the night before class for every exam!

Davenport was awesome. She's only hard if you don't go to class, because she gets everything off her slides and what she says about them. She wants to help and answer questions. If you try in this class, you'll be fine.

Her class can be challenging, but if you go to class and study the material you will do just fine. Sometimes she move through the material at a fast pace so I advise one to study the powerpoints the night before the lecture.

Her ppt presentations WERE the lectures- she didn't add much during class. DON'T buy the book because you won't use it! She is a very nice professor and very helpful. As long as you go to class and ask plenty of questions you should be fine! :)

Davenport was/is one of my all time favorite teachers. A quirky gal, she's extremely intelligent and EXTREMELY humble. There is nothing I appreciate more than a professor who isn't afraid to say "I'm not sure, but I'll DEFINITELY look it up." She makes biology as applicable to every day life as possible and her tests are EASY. Final grade: 99.7

I love how she reads off her power points and puts them up online. For the tests you just need to study the power points. BUT, I had trouble with her tests. Her tests are all application problems which for me was tough. It is definitely possible to make an A in the class but I ended up with a B. Take her, she's awesome.

Go to class and you'll ace the exams. She gives a review the class before every exam, which is VERY helpful. Unfortunately, attendance is mandatory and no, you can't have someone else sign you in. I would say take her if you don't mind going to every class or just about. She explains things well.

The class is hard because there is a lot of information packed into one semester. She's an awesome teacher though! Really really clear about what is going to be on the test, everything comes straight from the powerpoints, you don't even need a book. Everything on the test can be found in the notes, but she takes time to explain her notes as she goes through them. Study the PowerPoints and the tests will be simple. Not a hard class at all if you take a little time to know the info. Go to class because the points add up and extra credit is offered.

A lot of information but super easy class. I hate Bio and NEVER bought the textbook "required" for class and made an A. She is super helpful, nice, and always lets class out 15 min early. Everything on tests are straight off the powerpoints that you can print off TRACS.

No extra assignments to boost grade, Gives extra credit to those who have good attendance, arrive on time, attend the first class after each exam, and sometimes to those who stay after class. Attendance is not mandatory but your grade is highly corelated with it. Fill in the review that she posts on tracs. STUDY and you'll be ok

Great teacher! Attendance isn't mandatory but it can help or hurt you majorly. Gives extra credit for attending class. Do flash cards for the review she posts and you'll be golden. She posts powerpoints but attend class and you'll have an A, no problem.

She draws out anything she possibly can since she is a visual learner herself, she recommends you not purchase the book, and her tests are extremely easy(conceptual). Ended the course with an 100+ and she exempted me from the final exam! Highly recommended!!!

Dr. Davenport is such a great teacher. I'm so glad that I took her! I honestly hated biology prior to taking her, but now I can honestly say that I love it and I'm constantly talking about things I learned in her class! I'm definitely not an "A" student, but if you study for about 2-3 hours maximum for every test, you should definitely make an A!

Took her for Summer II. Probably one of the BEST classes I've taken here. I thought I was gonna hate Bio, but she actually made me LOVE it. No textbook, just powerpoint. She has a sense of humor, takes attendance through note cards which help for the exams, and will answer any question after class. HIGHLY recommend her!

Don't bother buying the book. She has all her stuff on TRACS, but I never used her ppts. Just take notes. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she gives out EC for attendance (50-60 pts total). 4 tests and a final. If you go over your notes you'll be just fine for the tests. She has quite a few "gimme" questions. Super easy A!! Great fashion sense.

Easy to listen to and her lectures are very clear. You learn a lot if you pay attention but the only negative is she gave us 30q exams that were worded extremely tricky and difficult. So if you missed 4 or 5 you would not get an A. B was easy(with studying days beforehand). A if you miss 1-3q's on the exam. F-C if you dont study at all.

Go to class often, study starting 3 days before the tests, do the practice questions, do not walk in front of her when she lectures, do not talk in class and you will ace it. There is a participation quiz everyday taken on your phone, so don't be late!! If you show up and take from the powerpoints on tracs you should be ok

I'm terrible at biology, but Dr. Davenport makes it fun. All notes are online plus possible test questions. Super duper nice, sort of shy, adorable when excited about science. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it REALLY helps at test time. If you need bio 1320, take her class. They're early, but worth it. Gives extra credit. Lab is required for 1421

Davenport knows her stuff and makes that clear everyday. She is so funny, smart, and outgoing about her subject! She made waking up at 8am worth it, and it was easy to make an A. If you go to lecture, type your notes, and pay attention - you are golden. Favorite professor by far.

I took Dr. Davenport for BIO 1420 in the summer (a one month course) and got a B ( And Biology is not my favorite subject). So I took her again for the fall. Her questions for the test require critical thinking skills. She doesn't use the book (so do not buy it). She knows her stuff! She makes the class interesting. I really learned a lot!

Dr. Davenport is the lab coordinator for Vertebrate Physiology. She helped me out in a fantastic way toward the end of the semester after I had a family emergency. She was kind and compassionate. I wish she taught the lecture. As for lab, it's an easy A if you can keep up! Put a lot of effort into that final paperpresentation and you'll be fine.

Lectures are full long, but all her powerpoints are posted. You don't have to pay attention in class, but you do want to show up if you want to get your participation points. So attendance isn't mandatory but you lose points for not showing up. Her tests have everything from the powepoints and practice questions asked.

83% of your grade is the 3 tests, the final replaces your lowest test grade. Her lectures are very clear and she explains things to the point that they seem elementary. She's extremely helpful and great at simplifying and teaching to a large class. Pay attention to top hat questions, usually about 10 are word for word on the test. Highly recommend!

Class sometimes falls behind schedule, but it's to ensure that the students properly learn the material, and only material covered in class is tested on the exams. Free participation points are given for attendance, which can serve as extra credit. Your lowest exam grade (including the cumulative final) is dropped. Fantastic professor, recommended!

Great lecturer. Used TopHat to answer questions. VERY HARD TESTS. The class average was a 74 with over 250 students in the class. You have to work hard to pass. She has sample test questions and power points online to help you study. Lowest of the 4 test grades (including final) is dropped. No textbook required.

She was awesome! She works with you if you have stuff going on, but she is very aware of all that she needs to cover in one class. If you are a non-biology major, she helps you out & is clear about what she wants from you. No messing around, she just gives it to you straight. I highly recommend her!

I LOVE RACHEL DAVENPORT. I took her hybrid 1320 over the summer, it was fast paced and tough at times, but she clarifies things so well. Absolutely recommend to everyone who needs to take bio. Got an A and I HATE science.

Can't wait to take her again. Class consists of 4 tests and an optional final, the study guides are very clear and lectures are on power point. No textbook is required but she does require that you buy an app called top hat which she uses for participation points. Top hat questions make up 10% of your grade so make sure you go to class!

My most favorite thing about the class was she made all of the P.P's available on TRACS the 1st day of class including all the test reviews. I wish more prof's would do this! She has Tophat but gives you the right answer. She posts all slides and a review for each test. Study the review and you should be fine. She's funny and it's an average class. You have to come to class to get Tophat points. She knows if you cheat. Didn't like having it on Friday but my grade paid off in the end.

If you skip class, just be ready to fail the class! Also make sure that you come to her office hours to see why you failed a test because she helps you understand why you missed something! I failed her first 3 exams and made a 97 on her last one just by going to her office hours to see my exams! Don't talk while she's talking, and should be good.

You don't really have to go to class. Like, she actually doesn't care if you come or stay on your phone the whole time. The powerpoints are online, although it does help to listen to her explanations of concepts, which can be helpful and sometimes funny. DO NOT bother buying the textbook - it's all about the powerpoints!

Davenport is a super sweet & funny lady. As long as you're paying attention (i.e. not on your phone or laptop doing something else) and taking notes you should be fine. The online hw assignments are designed to be difficult even though they're only 5-6 questions long. Haven't taken Bio since HS; learned more from her in four weeks than in HS.

This is the best professor ever. She understands that the class is for non majors so it's a piece of cake. The tests are easy and very definition based. There are no homework assignments, and she is amazing at explaining things. No textbook, just TopHat ($12).

She gives 5 exams and drops 1. she uses Tophat to ensure you're present and paying attention. Exams are 35 questions. The reviews aren't helpful since the material is provided on powerpoints. you will study over 120+ terms for 35 questions. some of the questions are based on Tophat questions that are rephrased, so critical thinking is vital.

I took human physiology w Dr. Davenport. Her tests are very much based around critical thinking & lecture slides, but after taking her class Im grateful she pushed us to those lengths because it has better prepared me for my MCAT. Dr. D is literally one of the best professors I've ever taken at TXST. Her lectures are so engaging and she is so understanding when it comes to tardiness or late assignments. Her exams are very straight forward and easy if you attend lectures. You have 2 papers throughout the semester but they're literally so easy too. I enjoyed her class so much.

I had Dr. Davenport for Vert Phys and while maybe the subject wasn't my favorite, Dr. D did a fantastic job at explaining each of the topics and making the class interesting. There were also multiple extra credit opportunities through discussion boards on canvas. I HIGHLY recommend her!

I actually had Professor Davenport on my honor court appeal case a few years ago. I had to take time off from school to deal with mental health and I came back and will be graduating this semester and i just think professor davenport is so nice and explains rules unbiasedly and she really brought me peace during a difficult time in my life.

Dr Davenport made this class so interesting! Easy layout of assignments, Final is optional if you are satisfied with the three Exam grades, two moderately easy projects. Go to class because participation is 30% of the overall grade. I would highly recommend taking this class of you are looking for an easy and interesting bio elective

One of the BEST profs I've had! Exams are open-note, final is NOT mandatory. Assignments are doable and enjoyable. Very engaging in class. There are a few assignments and tophat points added to grade as buffers. She usually does a lot of interesting group work in-class, so be prepared to participate.

Amazing prof with engaging lectures. DO NOT miss class it will count against you and affect your grade. One of the easiest and most interesting bio electives I've taken.

Professor Davenport makes this class engaging and enjoyable. Exams are open-note, and assignments are manageable. Tophat is helpful for studying, as are resources like Unstuck ai. Highly recommended for an interesting bio elective.

Dr. Davenport was the greatest science professor at texas state. She gave great lectures, really cares about students and wants you to excel. She has lots of grades possible and extra credit! Highly recommend her for any class of hers.

LOVED THIS PROFESSOR! I am not a fan of sitting down and listening to lectures for a period of time. However, I found her lectures so interesting to listen to and enjoyed being in her class. Everyone in college needs to take a sex and repro class, and Dr. Davenport is the ideal lecturer. The education system fails us with sex ed classes, especially in Texas, and she gets to the nitty gritty of it and dismantles harmful myths a lot of us still hold. TopHat makes up a majority of the grade so make sure you show up. Very informative class

Dr. Davenport is genuinely one of the most clear and kind professors I've ever taken. The course is laid out in an incredibly 'do-able' and clear way. She does everything possible for her students to be successful, you just have to do the work...but it's clearly outlined.

Dr. Davenport is the best professor I've had at Texas State, and it is a huge loss to the school that she is leaving. I've taken every class I could with her, including her summer study abroad program. She makes learning fun again and genuinely cares about making sure students understand the material.

Dr. Davenport just moved to Pitt from Texas this semester. She is such a good grab for Pitt, she is the best professor I have had here so far. She truly cares about her students and she is super responsive over email. She is always ready to answer questions and makes learning the content easy and fun. Love her and could not recommend her more.

Just perfect. She doesn't make ridiculous exam questions, lectures are a lot of info, but she makes them interesting and always answers questions. Just show up to class AND answer the top hat questions bc they are worth 92 points out of 412 available in the course. allows a cheat sheet on exams, final is not mandatory
