Rachel Driscoll is easily the worst professor i've ever had. She can't explain simple chemistry concepts and makes lecture tedious and confusing . Shes unorganized and doesn't know how to teach. Almost everyone skips lecture because her notes are very messy and confusing. Her grading criteria is not clear. Driscoll makes CHM109 feel like CHM215.

She's by far the worst professor I have ever had. Her lectures often don't make sense or are wrong. The class usually has to correct her on something she thinks is right every class until she realizes she was wrong. Her notes she gives you is not what she is teaching. Test are worth a lot of points for a very short test. Good luck teaching yourself

The worst professor you can have. She is very unorganized, doesn't know what shes talking about, student often have to correct her teaching, tests do not make sense with what is being taught. I am doing better not going to lectures and teaching myself. Do not take her class!

Terrible. Very very unorganized and makes everyone else feel her anxiety. She can't explain the simplest of topics and makes things more difficult than they need to be. Tests are tricky because she creates a test with only 30 questions but each MC is worth 4or 5 points. She can't answer questions, or even work out easy problems on the spot.

She is so bad at explaining things. The only reason i got a good grade is because i took AP Chem in high school.

If you have Professor Driscol drop ASAP!!! She has to look at notes while doing problems in class, laughs when she doesn't understand the material and her exams are only 20 to 30 questions and are worth 100 points students have to correct her every single class and I could honestly teach the class better.

She also has absolutely zero idea of how to teach and conduct a class. She is corrected by students constantly and is of no help what so ever. Teach yourself.

She also has quite the attitude. Drop her class ASAP she teaches like a 4th grade science teacher. Still got an A but did all the work myself

She expect you to know what she's thinking and tells you to study one thing and then puts something else on her exams. drop or your GPA will suffer

TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR! Doesn't explain the material well, DISORGANIZED, gets flustered easily during lecture, major attitude. Taught way too slow at the beginning of the semester and is now rushing to get back on track. Shows clips from tv shows during lecture to connect to the material? but the clips are super random and waste class time.

Do not take this class with her. She is confusing and makes simple concepts very difficult. I feel like she understands concepts, but absolutely does not know how to teach them to other people. This is supposed to be the most basic chem class, and she makes it unreasonably difficult. DROP WHILE YOU CAN.

I wouldn't recommend taking Prof. Driscoll. I love Chemistry, and her class made me feel like I knew nothing. She can get off track easily, and even though she might seem like she knows stuff, most of the time she seems like she doesn't know the material herself. She struggles to teach and rushes through the notes at the end of the semester.

Nice woman, but wouldn't recommend. She is very unorganized and reads directly off of a powerpoint every lecture. She gets very confused during lectures and often doesn't know how to answer student's questions She got all of our grades in on blackboard only a few days before our final exam so in other words she's not on top of things.

WORST PROFESSOR EVER. She doesn't know how to teach simple chemistry concepts. She gets halfway through a problem & scratches it out cause she doesn't know what she's doing. Went to her office hours for an explanation on a problem and she had no idea how to help me, I figured it out on my own while I was there. DROP NOW.

Driscoll is by far the worst professor I've had. She's constantly being corrected by students because she can't solve her own problems! Her time management is awful. She always skips around chapters and material and confuses everyone. Don't count on her putting in grades in Blackboard ever because she expects you to keep track of your own grades.

Driscoll was an awful prof. Very unorganized and always had to look up even the simplest of questions when asked. She made this easy entry level 109 class feel like it should have been 300+. Avoid this professor at all costs.

I've always been pretty sure that I wanted to pursue a career in business. Well Prof. Driscoll makes me want to become a Chem prof so no student has to deal with a prof like her.I got A's in AP Chem and struggled to do well in her intro chem class. Can't explain anything, confuses you more than helps. I beg you to not make the mistake I did. AVOID!

lets just say that she isn't the best professor out there. I would recommend not taking her class if you aren't good at chem or you don't want to have to teach yourself everything because she was not good at explaining simple concepts let alone the more difficult ones. I basically taught myself from examples. Other than that she was a nice lady.

You will learn more if you do take the extra help CHM 109 as the student teachers will explain more in depth. They will also work with Driscoll on simplifying concepts but be prepared to do examples and use the CSC. Go to lectures to fill in the blanks and organize your own notes bc she tends to jump around a lot. The exams are hard & no curving.

I took this class because I needed this as a pre requisite for higher lever chemistry classes in my major. The only reason I passed this class is because I took AP chemistry in high school. She does not explain chemistry well and seems to be confused by her own notes. Do not take this professor if you actually need to know chemistry.

I read awful things about her on here, but I went to class with an open mind anyway. I hate to be mean, but she was NOT a good professor. I didn't learn from her lectures, and I had to teach myself a lot of the material. The OWL online homework she gives can be very difficult as well. If you have her, you can make do, but switch if you can.

literally choose ANY other professor except her. She moves WAY too fast through the material and takes for granted info she thinks everyone already know but no one really does. She is messy and gets confused very often and just makes everything way harder. Lectures are very boring.

She was by far one of the worst professors I've ever had. She treated us like we were still in high school. Sometimes I felt like she had no idea what she was talking about. She took forever to submit grades. Lucky I did well in the class because I taught myself, but if you struggle with Chemistry she will not make it any easier for you.

Let me start by saying Professor Driscoll is very knowledgeable about chemistry. Where she lacks is being able to explain it to students. Whenever people are confused in class she gets frustrated and doesnt seem to be able to explain concepts differently. Take a different professor if you struggle with chemistry!!!

I hate to sound like a broken record, but yes, Prof Driscoll is the worst professor I've ever had. If you want to succeed in her class, plan on heading to the CSC once or twice a week. The tutors will be able to explain things much better.

This is the hardest class I took and it was not because of the content. This professor is not good at explaining anything. She is anxious and on edge all of the time. She gets mad at little things and ends up pushing lectures back because she is always behind. She seems very disorganized.

If you have the opportunity to drop this class and take it with another professor, please do so. You will not learn anything in this class unless you have a lot of prior chem knowledge and dont need anything taught to you. She makes everything way more complicated than it needs to be and its confusing.

Does not explain anything clearly or well. If you ask for help she will look at you like a 6 year old child that knows nothing about chemistry and will not clearly answer your question or help you understand the criteria. Wish I would have dropped this class when it was possible.

Driscoll was the worst professor I had. She never seemed to have anything ready for the day and was always flustered. She teaches through note packets that you have to fill in the blanks and if you didn't cover everything In the time period, she either shoves it all in the last 5 minutes or expects you to learn it on your own by next class.

Do not recommend. Hard pass. That's a no from me. She's just not the move. If you want someone who blames everything on the students, she's your gal.

The material isn't that difficult, but she manages to make it that way. Very unorganized and frustrating. She is kind of rude and I would try to get a different professor if possible.

Avoid at all costs. Buckle up for absolute misery and self doubt the entire time if you end up getting trapped with her. I feel like I could teach chem better than she can. Every exam and quiz is extremely unfair and no amount of studying will save you. She is proud of a mean grade on every exam being under 70%. Run while you still can.

Prof Driscoll is horrible. Very disorganized and unprepared for lecture. Each is exam is around 18 multiple choice questions and worth 100 points. It is finals week, and she still doesnt have any grades in the gradebook, so I have no idea what my overall percentage is in the class. Treats it like a highschool class. Would not take again.

ALWAYS came to class unorganized and frantic. Didnt know how to answer half of the students questions or just avoids them by saying shell get back to it. Learned all of this in high school chemistry, but the way she explains things is very confusing. Learned more from my tutor than I did from her, avoid at all costs.

Worst professor i have had. She comes into class frazzled and disorganized. Her lectures never make sense and every time you ask a question she wouldn't answer and she would say she would come back to it. She never gave any practice problems and the ones on wiley are hard. Each exam is worth a 100 points and only 16 Mc. Have anyone but her!!

Do not take this professor. Taking this class was a waste of my money, I did not learn a single thing. The professor spends the whole lecture period teaching herself the material, before teaching the students. When asking a question, she attempts to explain the same way over and over again and becomes rude when you are still unable to understand.

Do not take this professor. She does not explain stuff at all. If you have background knowledge from previous classes the beginning half is easy, but once you get into new stuff it's awful. She takes forever to grade anything and is constantly messing up information in lectures.

Asked her for help and what time her office hours were and she only said check the syllabus. Every time I asked for help she seemed like she had something better to do.

She speeds through lectures and important information, will mess up calculations during lecture and confuse all the students, and CONSTANTLY changes the syllabus. DO NOT TAKE

I would not recommend taking her if you're not good at science/chem. I took AP Chem in HS so a decent amount of the stuff I could reteach myself. If you ask a question don't expect a clear answer. The CSC was my second home because the homework had stuff we never learned in class.

I had taken an honors chem class my sophomore year of high school, and I felt as though a lot of the stuff that was learned in 109 was similar, especially in the beginning. She does not give a clear explanation on nearly any question or topic. I found myself struggling often, needing to ask for outside help or looking things up. Would not recommend

Rachel is very nervous when she gives lectures. Her quizzes and exams are a lot harder than they need to be. She uses complicated vocabulary as if she is trying to impress someone. Obviously don't believe everything you read on the internet, but do believe what the majority of people say about this professor.

Would not take any class with her again. Usual amount of lectures and quizzes as other classes. Explanations are not great. Use of time not great. Attitude not great.

Driscoll reminded me of not a college professor but a 9th grade chemistry teacher. She gets very flustered in her lectures and explanations aren't that good. Honestly had to use YouTube to teach myself over half the class. Used the book very little. Homework was harder than the exams for me.

Professor Driscoll doesnt really teach us, we teach ourselves. She confused you more when you have a question and would rather sit in silence than help you get to an answer. very disorganized and doesnt really know whats going on most of the time 10/10 do not recommend.

Professor Driscoll made very difficult to learn chemistry. She didnt explain material in lecture, and would only go over the objectives for the next weeks material. I learned off of youtube videos instead of lecture. I got an A in the class because I taught everything I know to myself.

Prof. Driscoll is terrible. These ratings are nothing but the truth. I also took honors chem my sophomore year of high school and find a lot of the material similar. However I feel my high school teacher can explain MUCH better than Prof. Driscoll. Later on in the semester you will need to either get outside help or look up videos. Do NOT take her.

Her class is difficult because she is not a good teacher. I would steer clear of this class. I've take higher levels of chem, and this intro class was far more difficult just because of the horrible teaching. If you want to get an A in this class, don't take her.

The beginning of the class was not that bad but as time went on her teaching gets worse and worse. The average of a quiz for my class was 50% one time. It is intro to chem. This class was way harder than it needed to be for an intro class. She makes things complicated when they don't need to be. Good luck teaching yourself near the end.

One of the worst teachers I've had. Easily distracted, got far behind the semester schedule as a result of spending way too much time on practice questions while rushing through actual content. If you miss something, she doesn't post presentations, and note guides have essential pieces turned into blanks. Avoids giving any useful help. DO NOT TAKE.

If you like passing classes, don't take this one. Professor Driscoll makes literally every aspect of chemistry harder than it needs to be. My lab for this course is far easier than her lecture material. Class is a waste of time, I learned more from google. The class starts with her taking forever on one thing, then she rushes through the rest.

Majority of the time her lectures arent helpful, and most of my currently class has guessed on quizzes and overall doing poorly because no one understands her. She stares into the video camera... like into your souls kinda stare. Random singing was a thing. She spends almost 10 minutes just going over announcements. Ive learned more from YouTube.

The chemistry center helped me so much more than this professor did and Her "Make up Policies "are useless. Yes, she is good at providing note guides and practice problems but the course is too fast and it is so much information to jam in your mind all at once. she is not the WORST professor but she is not the best neither. her explanations 5.5/10.

I put so much effort in and outside of that class, improved on quiz scores, attend class everyday except for 1 day and my grade still somehow remain as a D

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! She does not care to help her students, you go to her office hours and she rushes you out. I once asked for help in class and she proceeds to tell me "I have so many other people I need to help" will write things such as yikes on your quiz. She also uses your discussion times for lecture time instead of going over questions

This lab professor sucks, She would take the entire class to explain the lab and gives 15 minutes to work on the actual lab, and I still didn't understand what we were doing for the lab. She's awkward and is well hated in the chem community. 20/10 dont recommend.

Not very good at explaining course content. Grades are incredibly test heavy and tests often contain questions with answers that were mentioned maybe one time in class. would definitely recommend choosing another professor to take chem 109 with.

If you can take any other Professor for Chem 109, do it. Her lectures are all over the place and I’m pretty sure she skipped over an entire unit of notes for one of our exams. Don’t even bother going to office hours, she is not helpful whatsoever -1000/10 recommend.

The tests in this class weigh heavy on your grade. This professor rushes to answer questions and doesn't give any example to help answer questions. This professor does not even reach out to her students when she sees that they are not doing as well. She rushes through the material and is not lenient with anything. Do not take.

The note guides were fine, sometimes the lecture slides and the note guide did not line up and it was frustrating. Her explanations were horrible. Had I not taken a chemistry class before this one I would have no idea what was going on. She's fairly short-tempered when it comes to answering your questions during class and/or discussions.

This professor only introduced us to the material. She did not dive nor care to express any excitement about learning the required material. Really she was of no help. This course was tough especially when you are an incoming student. Plus this teacher has no chill. She's all stress.

Homework had questions related to topics we did not learn about before it was due. Relied heavily on the CSC to do well in class. Discussion used as extra lecture and doing more notes.

I would not suggest taking this professor at all. The class itself was not too hard and there was not a lot of homework, but she is terrible at teaching. She called my note-taking disgusting and said questions I was asking were embarrassing. Made me feel terrible about myself and my learning abilities. She spent over half of several class periods talking about why chemistry should matter to us. She should have her job taken away for the way she belittles students and wrecks their self confidence.

I had questions about how she graded something and we came to the conclusion that I did the problem correctly but yet she didn't do anything about it and counted me wrong. She would take max points off if you did the slightest thing wrong. I wish I didn't take her lab

This professor is GOD AWFUL. Do not take her class, you will spend hours outside of class trying to teach yourself the content because she makes everything so complicated. Chem is hard as it is but she makes it 20x worse.

She was rude and disrespectful to anyone who asked questions, she would also yell at anyone for packing up at the time the class ended.

How do I even start. She states that it's important to come to lecture yet you never learn anything from lecture. And if you do miss lecture the notes she posts are fill in notes anyway. She sets you up for failure with every quiz and exam. She will make you feel so stupid for even asking a question. My only advice is don't by any means take her.

She was very unorganized and none of the notes that was taught during lecture weren't on the quizzes or the exams. Treats students like elementary students. Makes it really hard to try and reschedule tests or quizzes if you had to miss them. If you have this professor don't waste your time showing up to lecture you won't learn anything anyways.

I wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone! She grades pretty harshly, and over complicates everything. compared to other professors, her classes were behind and she didn't teach everything needed for the final. Her discussions are even worse because she assigns group projects that are way more complicated than the materials taught in lecture.

This class was not great. Everything I learned and the reason I passed was because of tutors and their help. A tutor was better at teaching than her. Whenever I would ask her a question she would expect me to know everything and would give a complicated explanation. I think chemistry would have been great if I didn't have her as a professor.

Professor Driscoll's class was very difficult to manage and she is not an accommodating professor. She read directly off of the slides and does not spend much time, if at all any, explaining concepts in further detail. If you miss a class it is very hard to catch up and overall I would not take a class with her again!

She would yell if you started to pack up when she was still lecturing, even after the class time was technically over. Also took over 2 weeks to grade a scantron exam. Run

I would never take her again. I went to her office hours and she was no help and told me I was bound to fail. If you have her as a teacher try and change asap. I stayed up countless nights learning on my own because she was no help. SLA discussion was no help either. I would take a different teacher if possible.

This professor rushed everything and always acted agitated and disgruntled. People would ask questions, but she would refuse to answer them and would walk away without answering. Graded me down a full point for not writing 9x10=90 on a quiz. Tons of long homework assignments with material we did not cover in lecture.

Professor Driscoll seems like a niceish person but is very disorganized when teaching CHM 109. The Blackboard page is rather messy and hard to read. The notes that she provides for the class are not in the order she teaches them (you will end up skipping around a lot). The way she teaches mathematical calculations is unnecessarily complicated.

I do not recommend this Professor for any chem classes. Did not explain well at all. Very awkward and not much help when asking questions. You are better off getting help and learning the material using a tutor or SLA. I would pick a different professor asap if you are thinking of taking any of her classes.

Did an awful job at explaining the material. Exams had almost NOTHING to do with material. Very snappy. Does not answer your questions ever. Keeps you past class time EVERY lecture.

I had my lab at 8 A.M every Thursday for CHEM 116 and most days she genuinely appeared hungover. When asking her a question, the majority of the time she had to consult her manual because she didn't know the answer and it took 10 minutes to get an answer. Very snarky, passive-aggressive, and a very tough grader. Would never take again.

The blackboard is a mess. I had no idea where to find anything that she posted with the 200 other posts. Every lecture is either you learn way too much to understand all of it, or you learn nothing. So many small, unnecessary assignments that you cannot do for late credit. I wouldn't take again.

Why is she even still teaching. The good comments about her were probably written by her cats at home. She is extremely unhelpful and can never be wrong. She will make you feel bad for asking questions. She does not even know most of the students names and grades participations in discussions.

This class was quite messy - the professor's teaching style was disorganized and unhelpful. While unstuck ai and other study tools like ChatGPT helped, the overall experience was frustrating. I wouldn't recommend taking this professor.

Absolutely horrible. Never take this class if you want to be happy. She never makes anything clear and I am seriously doubting her degree. She is the reason I believe teachers need to get re-certified every couple of years. The girl next to me asked her a question and she literally said to google it.

Terrible. Do not recommend. Very unhelpful and makes you feel shameful for asking questions. Seems as if she is learning the lab while she's teaching us. I'd rather take Orgo for the rest of my life than have her be my lab professor

She is literally the worst professor I've ever had. Had no idea what she was doing in lab and was absolutely no help when it came to troubleshooting. Freaked out any time something went slightly off course, too. Tried to blame the students for bad grades as well. She said we "weren't using our time wisely," and that's why we were all failing.

I mean this in the nicest way possible but prof Driscoll is the worst professor Ive ever had at gvsu. I had her lab the second week of the cycle and yet she still had absolutely no clue what she was doing and I would ask her questions to try to expand my learning and she would either walk away or just tell me I should know the info. Dont take her!!

Simply put, was not impressed. Her grading criteria was the hardest aspect of this class, I never knew what grade I had. Wasn't the clearest in her explanations. Very smart and knowledgeable in chemistry, but I struggled to learn from her.

Straight forward: worst lab professor ever. Always extremely unorganized and took way too long for a mediocre pre-lab explanation. She needs to be fired before she ruins the great reputation of Organic Chem at GV! P.S. I actually have put countless hours into this class and while I did well, I still struggled and hated every second of her time

Just coming back to say never take this class. I took it my freshman year and I switched my major because of it.

The entire semester I asked for help figuring out my grade, and she just said she didn't know. Whenever I asked a question, I was yelled at and told I should know or was belittled, making me feel stupid about not knowing the answer. When I lost my notes due to a tech error she was completely unhelpful and told me I had to figure it out on my own.

I wouldn't recommend taking this professor to anyone. She often didn't know the answers to questions you asked her, and her responses often left you even more confused than before. I also didn't know what grade I had and was on pace to finish with until I got my final due to the confusing grading system she didn't even understand herself.

I only attended class about six times, mainly for the required in-class activities needed to pass. Honestly, I learned more by studying on my own. My highest test score was just 65%, yet I still finished with a B. If you review the grading system and focus on completing the assignments, getting an A should be easy.

Never again. Attended every single lecture and still barely passed! I have never had a professor I didn't like, she is my first. I had a medical emergency, she stated I would not be able to take the exam when I had documentation that I had to see a surgeon immediately. Shes very rude and snarky. I agree with everyone's review of her, it stands.

Genuinely the worst professor I have ever had in my life. 100/10 don't recommend!!! I'm doing you a favor!

She's a nice lady, but a horrible professor. It seems like she doesn't know how to actually answer questions. Her way of explaining things is usually scattered. She also never posts the slides, so missing a day isn't in your best interest. Also don't be surprised if her guided notes are wrong, and she jumps around.

Run. I'm not joking in the freaking slightest, RUN FROM THIS PROFESSOR

She didn't seem to know what she was doing at all.

She didn't really know what she was doing ever. We would ask questions and she didn't know what were even talking about. She was not well prepared for any labs.

Was a nice person but a terrible professor. Would show up to lab right on time sometimes a few minutes late and would never help if we had questions.

This professor test very heavy and wouldn't answer questions clearly and also wouldn't help students when she sees they are failing in the classroom.

She is bad. Avoid if you can. She shows up a minute before class starts and we start late all of the time. She can't explain the material and when you ask a question she makes you sound stupid and judges you. Things get explained after you already do stuff. Tough grader, especially on the abstracts. Will tell you what to say and fail you.

i happily didnt take this class but from what i heard from people actually taking the class she sucks lol

Boy oh boy where do I begin. I had to pay $35 for my textbook for her class of amazon because she was trying to charge damn near $100 for it. I was paywalled out of her random Iclicker grading whatever. She told me "centi" does not mean "one hundredth" but rather "1/100".
