Her Excursions in Mathematics section of Multicultural Mathematics class is the BEST class to take if you choke at the thought of numbers and calculus.More of a history/word/logic problems kind of class. She guarantees a C- to those w/perfect attendance.
interesting laugh. nice lady, a little confusing on some areas but she gives lots of extra credit
Drop out of school before taking her Calc III class. Horrible, annoying, confusing teacher.
i've never done this before, and she makes this site worth it... the more students i can save from her class the better. finish school in 5 years instead of 4 before you take her for calc III. she might know math, but she has NO CLUE how to teach it
If you have the time to drop i nher office every other day to learn what she doesn't teach in class, which is pretty much everything, go for it. Smart lady but can't dummy down the stuff to student's level

Her class possibly was the most confusing in my life. She is a smart lady, but doesn't feel its her problem when the majority of the class is failing. It seems we should just understand this stuff. Possibly missed her calling as a math researcher.
this woman is very nice but is not the best teacher...she gives a project that is work 25% of grade and hardly explains how to do it...her tests are given the day after you learn for the first time the hardest topic of the chapter...it could be worse
very hard teacher.. quizes are good though.. went to her for help and didnt help me
FOUR words...DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!
Ruined my GPA for the rest of my college career...totally lied about how seeing her for extra help would guarentee me a "C"- gave me a "D" anyway!
Had Dr. Hall for Math for Business Majors II. It was an easy class. She was very helpful and clear. She tells you what the problems are like on the test by looking at past HW problems. Goofy laugh and a little spacy, but not a bad prof.
Easiest class I have ever taken. It's different than all the other excusions classes. It's more like 2nd grade math, but with weird symbols. If you have any common sense you will have no problem. She is kinda wierd though she is very impressed by creatity
during class she doesnt really teach the information, she jus dictates and it doenst even follow in the book
are you serious? hall makes math interesting by relating it to music. she also is always available for help, is super cheery, and brings in stuff for the class all the time. shes easy going, and isnt mean or anything.
boring but easy...common sense stuff and she explains it but it only is easy if u can follow her examples...slides on website r a HUGE help and you barely need the book if u use them.
Do not take this women, shes awful, she has no problem giving people 30s and does not know what she is talking about. If you go to see her, she will make you feel as insecure as she is, there is no helping this women,so if u can aovid her - DO SO!
she was the worst.. she crams ALL of the work for her big survey project for the last 2 weeks of class, she doesn't explain anything, and there is so much work. she sucks. when you go to her for help, she rolls her eyes at you and tells you "i dont have time for this" DONT take her
Dr. Hall is very interesting and such a cool person...math sucks but she relates it to current topics...she brings things in for the class..will help you if you ask!
best teacher ever!! take her as many times as possible!! she has a weird body....
So nice and will give you all the help you need. You can get a B with out ever opening the book
just say no!! she is horrible
shes nice and tried to make class fun sometimes, but pretty much didnt teach anything although she tried...she knows what shes talking about but didnt know how to teach it...we pretty much had to teach ourselves calc 2...i wouldnt recommend
She is one of the best profs at SJU.
Nice person but perhaps on a different intellectual level at times. Lectures can be hard to understand. She will always help you if you ask and not too hard on due dates. Can grade hard at times.
Great professor, tough material. You will get from her class what you put into it. As long as you show her effort, she will do her best to help you.
hard class. quizes once a week. she is super smart when it comes to math but doesn't always know how to teach it well. wouldn't recommend if you did not have calc before
Good teacher. Like a grownup teenager in a math genius body. Games almost every week!
The class is really boring, and she is no help at all. I went to her office a few times and that was just a waste of time. The final project is kind of interesting. Tests weren't too bad if you knew your stuff.
great teacher! gives an easy quiz every class period that is only 2 or 3 questions and she goes over it directly before you take it. gives 2 weeks to complete hw assignments. very helpful, easy b+/a
I was in Dr. Hall's class for two semesters of Excursions. Got into a lot of subject matter you wouldn't classify as "math." Wouldn't call it easy, but wouldn't call it hard either. Although there's usually one hard test per semester. But the quizzes every Friday can pull up your grade.
This class was pretty difficult and Dr. Hall was not much help. The text book is impossible to understand. Dr. Hall is very smart but doesn't have any people skills at all. Even with that, if you study hard you can still get a good grade.
She is more interested in her music math classes than in this one for sure, but overall is a good teacher. If you don't get something the first time, she'll reteach it to you in a different way in office hours. Works with all types of learners. Must attend class if want help...skip if you want, but don't expect her to help you if you're stuck.
She is such a hard grader and I would never ever want to take a class with her again. The tests also rarely make sense and the homework doesn't follow the noteslecture at all.
Tests aren't too bad, gives study guides for every one, final was easy, as long as you show up and take good notes as well as complete the study guides you will get a good grade in the class
Professor Hall is very nice and helpful, but her class can get boring at times. All the homework is on the syllabus and usually it's due once every other week. When homework is due you have a quiz. Sometimes she gets confusing, but as long as you keep up with the work you'll get a B.. will have to work a little bit for an A.
Terrible professor. Does not know how to teach. Would not recommend taking her unless math is your strength. If you've taken calculus before its very easy but still rough to sit through.
Don't take symmetry. Most pointless and confusing class I've ever taken. She's not a bad professor but the subject is just very confusing and abstract. It was a very awkward class. She will assign homework that doesn't make any sense, mainly because the textbook makes no sense. I would not recommend anyone taking this class.
Dr. Hall is a genuinely nice professor. She will let you make up quizzes and homework with some leniency. Homework and quizzes are assigned bi-monthly without the use of a syllabus calendar. Rachel will say "at any rate" about 5 times per class. Very hard to wake up for this class if its at 8am.
If you're looking to take Hall for Sounding Numbers... AVOID THIS CLASS. Yes, it's easy but I've learned absolutely nothing. Longest lectures ever and they make no sense. She gives quizzes every Thursday. I personally hated this class because I had no interest in taking a music class. You HAVE to read her notes and she gives a crap ton of homework.
Dr. Hall is a professor that you should avoid. I went to her for help and constantly wanted to improve in her class but she didn't care and didn't help me. She is very smart but not so good at getting the info across. Take someone else. Trust me.
Hall is a professor that wants the best for her calc students. However, she is an AWFUL teacher. She is very intelligent in math but does not understand that some struggle with this subject. Quizzes were often. Tests were difficult. Gives extra credit for tests and she will give a couple take-home/ drop quizzes throughout the semester. Tons of HW!
Classes were pretty boring, but overall she is a very caring woman, will really try to help you if you put in the effort. If you've taken any calc before, this class is pretty easy, but theres a lot of homework problems which are graded for correctness. Drops lowest quiz grade, and sometimes even two if students need an extra boost.
Dr. Hall is one of my favorite profs but easily misunderstood by many. Kind and offers many ways to make up grade. She gets flustered easily in lecture but overall is a solid professor. Most students either like her or hate her, because her teaching style fits some but not all.
DONT TAKE SYMMETRY. it sounds easy but it makes no sense and the class is made up. I tried to look up a few things online, they simply did not exist. You get around 7 chapter homeworks with quizzes after and 2 tests. They're all difficult. As of right now I am failing. Heard she still passes everyone. Will update after the final.
Says "Any rate" 100 times during each class. Goes through material fast. Can not ask questions.
Sound of Numbers course is easy if you pay attention in class and GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS at least once a week. Office hours will help you in every single way, you will understand everything better (she doesn't explain good in class) and she gives extra credit points and will give you good participation. Overall to passoffice hours.
Dr. Hall is a pretty good math teacher for a school that doesn't have the best math program. She is funny and kind of all over the place but it's not hard to do well in the class. Homework is usually do once a week and on the due date there is usually a quiz based off the homework. This means there are a lot of grades so its easy to bring up a grad
I honestly believe this is the best class to fulfill the math requirement. Pay attention in class and take notes. She gives homework for almost every chapter and makes very helpful test reviews. As long as you understand the homework and reviews, you will be fine on tests. I enjoyed the class.
I took her Symmetry class to fulfill my math beauty requirement. The class was SO boring, it was very hard to sit through. She is very passionate about the subject though so she's a pretty good teacher. Just so, so boring.
If I had to describe Rachel Hall in a few sentences, this would be it. One time she had a cold so before class she drank a whole bottle of Dayquil and NyQuil and 3 cups of coffee before class. She taught calc in emojis that day. She also will play the accordion for you and other weird instruments. She is really entertaining but very difficult.
an absolute dime
Rachel Hall is clearly passionate about the subject and assigns very little homework, but the class teaches you literally nothing useful and is one of the most boring classes I have ever taken. You literally show up and you can pass. Exams and quizzes are simple, cram the night before and you'll pass. She can sometimes get on your nerves a little.
Pretty weird teacher. Not bad class. Makes things a bit more confusing than they need to be but if you know calc going in you will be fine.
Professor Hall is very knowledgeable about Calculus. I think as long as you follow along in class and do the weekly homework, you'll do well on the weekly quizzes and the exams. It was also super nice to have a Supplemental Instructor for the class to help explain things that Dr. Hall didn't explain well.
Another professor who really does not know how to teach. She barely announces anything on canvas so if you miss class, you're lost. I took calculus before her and she teaches unnecessary things that are 1) confusion as ever and 2) not even related to calculus at all. I really would not take her again, she is sweet but a horrible teacher.
Don't take math and music with her. Nobody in the class knew what was ever going on! So many people dropped the class throughout the semester because they were failing.I went to some of her office hours, and they helped, but it was so confusing in class. The only thing is that was nice is that she drops the lowest quiz and hw grade. Never again.
Strange professor, VERY lecture heavy and was very prone to using music theory terms no one in the class knows. The large majority of the class is very often lost, and she cannot clarify well, so we continued to be lost. I would recommend at a minimum taking this class with a different professor, or do not take this class at all.
Professor Hall is a very bad teacher. She reads off of slides and goes very fast. I have learned nothing. She creates no connection with her students and really doesn't care for them at all. Very unaccessible outside of class. She doesn't care if you're doing bad, she just doesn't care about her students at all. Do not take her please.
She goes over a lot of music terms assuming that you'll know them. If you don't review the slides outside of class, it is unlikely that you'll pass the quizzes. Homework assignments are long and unclear. The math and music often don't correlate. Not an easy class.
Average professor for an averagely hard class. After taking Calc in high school this was more of a review class, but she helped me understand things I didn't before. She is boring, which I think is because she struggles to connect with college students. If you're good at math not a bad choice, but if you need help definitely look elsewhere.
She is a nice professor, but she goes over the slides very fast and the class is boring. She is able to help if we have trouble with our work and is accessible outside the class. I went to tutoring sessions and they also help. I switched MAT132 to this class because I felt like the material was easier, but the tests are difficult than the quizzes.
Very difficult tests and quizzes, as someone who has testing anxiety, I get very fidgety during the tests. I get very thrown off on the true and false questions. Most of the true and false questions weren't what I read on the google slides. The class is boring and can be confusing at times, but she responds very nicely when you ask.
Dr. Hall is a very nice woman, but I would steer clear of her class. I ended up having to teach myself most of the work because her lectures are so confusing. To be fair, this was her first time teaching MAT180, but nonetheless frustrating. Very long homework due about once a week. Often contains stuff we haven't gone over and graded for accuracy.
Dr. Hall is such a nice person. Really cares about her students. However, her lectures are confusing. It was not uncommon for her to get halfway through a proof and then erase and start over. But it was her first time teaching MAT 180 so I understand. 10 HW's, two exams and a final. Final had many of the same problems as previous exams and homework
Taking her music class, I was not challenged very much. I also knew some of the musical terms she would use, so I can understand how people who know nothing about music would get confused. I found myself bored in most of her lectures, and she didn't really connect with my class at all.
Good and passionate lectures often with hands-on learning
Dr.Hall was a wonderful professor. If you need help go to office hours, she will help you succeed. If you don't pay attention and slack off then you're definitely not going to understand. This class is not like Geometry it was easier.
not a bad teacher, super nice. Math 161 is supposed to be a little harder than 155. Each homework assignment had SO many problems to do. There was a quiz on each of the homeworks but she was really bad at posting the answers to the homework before the quizzes. If you're good at math, take her she's not hard. No examples in class, lecture heavy.
overall an average course which is not too difficult. major con is that class lectures seem simple and easy but testing has questions do not reflect class lectures. it is not clear. some homework and have quizzes the day it's due but not difficult. extra credit assignment is given and office hours an can help too.
Dr. Hall has honestly been one of my best professors so far at Saint Joseph's University. She understands that most students take MAT 161 as a prerequisite course. She gives easier quizzes and does not grade HWs like her upper-level courses. She speedily provides solutions to every HW and quiz and test corrections for 1/3 additional points. Great!
I like Dr. Hall so much that I have intentionally taken her Calculus 1 & 2 classes and have asked her for a Letter of Recommendation. She convinced me to continue my math education past Calc 1 as a business major, so I added Quant. Econ. as another major so that I could take more MAT courses. She's very understanding and demonstrates each problem.
I took Dr. Hall for symmetry and as long as you show up and pay attention it is an easy A. She gives extra credit an all chapter tests and are fairly easy to answer. There is homework and a test each chapter but they are both easy and short.
This class is easy and hard, all at once. A lot of the concepts are brand new and can be hard to grasp. In class, Dr. Hall does not explain things well but outside of class, she is really great and helps a lot! She will help you pass in any way possible. However, you do have to attend class or you won't get much pity from her if you fail.
Dr. Hall is incredibly smart but doesn't necessarily teach it the first time through. She kind of just does the problems once and moves on. When you ask questions she can be very helpful but she moves on so quickly that there is rarely time to ask. She doesn't answer emails and isn't on campus some days of the week which makes it hard to get help.
Math of Games and Politics class was so easy. Once you get the hang of it, its easy. Don't bother buying a textbook, we used it for the HW like 3 times- just get it from a classmate. A few quizzes and 2 tests and a final. Quizzes and tests are so easy and they're always exactly what we learned. Notes are given to you on a print out every class.
Dr. Hall is very nice but the class just wasn't good. I struggled to understand the material and had to use outside sources to understand the material clearly. my grade at the start of the semester was bad and is still affecting me even though ive put up 90% on average since September.
Professors Hall's class is so easy, but so boring. It's difficult to sit through 50 minutes of her explaining the same thing over and over again on the handouts she gives out. If you want an easy grade, go ahead, but you will probably find yourself zoning out a lot. I will say, this was her first time teaching this course, so maybe she'll improve.
Dr.Hall is a really nice person and is always willing to help you out if you're struggling with a concept. I found this class pretty boring and was constantly zoning out. She uses the textbook but you don't really need it. She gave a decent amount of homework. She also offers extra credit after the exams.
Really nice, but lectures were boring. She is very willing to help in office hours or on Zoom. Has the HW problems in Canvas, so don't really need a textbook unless you want to read. Grades HW for completion with quizzes after each, which are brief at end of class. Two tests make up big portion of grade so study.
Professor Hall is a really nice lady, but she doesn't explain things very well. I had to use outside sources to get a better understanding of the materials. Although, she's very understanding and she will curve grades to prioritize her student's best interest.
Dr. Hall is very smart and she knows what she is talking about, however, her lectures are boring and it is difficult to pay attention. She doesn't teach but instead just does problems while you watch. She does offer test corrections and the bottom 3 quizzes are dropped so it is easy to succeed in the class if you put in the effort.
she is genuinely a very sweet professor. her class can be really tedious and boring, but she is always willing to make time to meet with students and ensure they understand.
Had her for Linear Algebra and there's a reason she doesn't teach it anymore. Dr. Hall often overcomplicated subject matters and confused the class (and herself) by teaching concepts incorrectly. She was not a lenient grader, and she hardly curved any of her exams. However, she was accessible and made sure to help students who had questions.
