logic Dr, watch out! teaches logic really well, just make sure you ASK questions when you dont understand. this subject is basically mathematical, so if you dont like math or things that function in that way dont take this.
She knows her stuff. her grading is pretty normal. i understood the subject really well. in a sense it is mathmatical.
one of the most entertaining teachers i've ever had!!!
Greeeaaat teacher! She takes time to explain everything in class, but the tests are a bit difficult. Participate(she counts it) in class and take good notes and you'll get a B or A.
I like her as a person but sometimes the material was too much to memorize for a quiz. she is now on leave to get her masters and is sometimes difficult when she has a lot to do if you miss a test she gives you have the points and no make ups are aloud
A lot of information but professor is very clear and helpful. Those who put her down in class were really bad students. Sort of dry but great sense of humor. She didn't put up with "highschool" behavior and had no problem putting those who acted out on blast. It was great and so was she.
I love Prof. Hollenberg, she make her students think and work our brain. she's there to guide us, not feed us informations... I love her class...I feel like i'm thinking while im in her class not being fed with informations... TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Capable teacher, but she does nothing to ease the boredom of the subject.
VERY challenging teacher. Makes you think. Acerbic wit. This is not an easy A, but you can learn a lot. (I didn't find her at all "arrogant" or "elitist" and thought the people who minded her announcing of As are the people who never got them).
The subj is not so easy. Now that that's out of the way, she does her best to make it as easy as possible. Other people don't see this, but that is because they do not ask questions. It is simple, "Ask and you shall recieve"!! She is an awsome teacher with a ton of patience!
She is a very easy teacher if you pay attention. She gets most of her test from the study guide. If you do the study guide youll be fine. You dont do alot of work in her class. grades are based on test. She a real easy teacher overall.
I took her for two classes back to back so I got to know her very quickly :). Wonderful woman that doesn't take any crap. She is very calculating and knows how to put things into context so even a dunce may get it (keyword may). Logics is hard to liven up, but phil 1 was definetly great. She can look cold but she is nice, saw her smile a few times!
She is a GREAT teacher. The subject matter for this class was difficult for me, but she tries every single way imaginable to make it as understandable and clear as possible. she actually tries to make the enviornment fun and easy going. i highly recommend her for a philosophy class. she is fair with everyone and funny. Not an easy ride but NOT bad.
Nice teacher as long as you don't get on her bad side. The class is great, she grades only on participation and quizzes which are 2 questions every 2 weeks. Overall it's a cool class since we don't have to do much and she can be amusing. Just don't mention anything negative towards gay/lesbians because she takes it very personal. Favors women.
Now it was logic, you can imagine how that went. It wasnt all that easy. She grades based on quizzes and participation. Usually her quizzes are 2 qts. She is a "good teacher" but very challenging. Don't try to challenge her bcuz she will make you look stupid in front of the entire class. So watch out
THis class is naturally hard, so it takes a really good teacher to make it relatively easy. She gives great examples and seems to actually care that everyone in the class gets it. It not easy to get an A or even a B for that matter, but you follow along and do the assingments its not impossible. Great teacher, highly recommended
OMG..this was the hardest class I have ever taken. The material is really confusing, so you have to study, and do good on the quizzes. The teacher was nice, and helpful.
This teacher is wonderful! The class can be difficult at times, but stay on top of it, and you'll do fine. She is very kind, encouraging, and helpful! You would thank the online class would be hell, but she makes it very doable! If you have the opportunity, take her! She is worth it!
Hard class but she kind of makes it easier to understand just study for the quizzes if u want a good grade
i love rachel hollenberg!!! if you are up for a great sense of humor and a challenge then this is the teacher to go to...most don't like her for her teaching style but if you do the class the way she wants you to then you are in really good with her. i absolutely adore her work and sense of humor!!
She is a very tough teacher but that is what LBCC lacks. She is a well coveted teacher with multiple degrees and we should be happy she's teaching at a junior college versus a UC school. She prepare her students for when they reach a university level they would be up to par. My advice is to do lots of flashcards for each chapter.
I do not know why this woman gets high ratings from people. I took her Logic class online, i do not recommend. I would read, and understand the discussion forums perfectly, then when the test came, it made absolutely no sense. The questions from the test were nothing like the sample questions from the book and required extra steps not covered.
The absolute WORST professor I have ever had. Her online class is ridiculous. The material she gives is nothing even similar to what is in the book, thus making it impossible to fully grasp. I would read the book and understand the material, yet consistently do bad on her quizzes. This is prob. a class you want to take in person, NOT online.
IF you get a 6 or less on each quiz, just give up. Most professor would give you a C just for showing up to class everyday and taking the quiz. She have unrealistic expectations from students. The only professor I knew that didn't warn the students if they were earning an F.
Based on the compositional skills from some of the nay-sayers here it doesn't surprise me in the least they did poorly in her class. She's not a pushover and her classes aren't slam dunks. Boo-Hoo. Try studying for a change instead of whining about how she marked you late when it was "only by a minute". Welcome to the real world of responsibility.
she is very clear at teaching the material. Her quizes are based off what she teaches. If you pay attention at the material then you will do good. this class does require a little studying. If interested in the book email me at [email protected]
The Logic Online course is the WORST class you can possibly take or even consider taking with her. It's a challenge. Using the book she wrote does not make logic comprehensible. The book is dry. Read other logic books and you will notice the difference when you read the first chapter.
Really liked the class, made me think 'outside the box'. Teachers is really helpful and lectures were interesting, dont take class if your a slacker...managed to slide by with a decent grade :-)
Excellent teacher, very clear with her explanations & very helpful too. If you don't understand something, she will repeat it for you & explain it in a way that even a 5 year old can understand! (Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating, but you get the point) Her quizzes are fairly easy & the only way you'll fail is if you don't pay attention or come to class!
she's a really good teacher, takes her time to teach and always makes sure everyone understands material before proceeding to the next sub, course, material. she's a really good teacher i loved both her classes Intro to logic & symbolic
This is not an easy A class. I guess she is fair. There is no extra credit and she does not grade on a curve.
She really knows the course well. She stays late after class to answer any questions. She doesn't leave any real homework. Her grading consists entirely on her quizzes. I took her summer class, which I thought would be a bad idea because I read so many people saying it's a tough class and she's even tougher, but not the case. Study with the CD.
I love her! She's hilarious and she doesn't get mad if you skip class or don't do your homework once in awhile. She's really helpful if you ask. She doens't make you feel stupid for asking a question. The tests are super easy as long as you pay attention in class!
Philosophy isn't an easy subject, she makes it easy. Yes, quizzes are a big chunk of your grade, but she pin points everything for you. She's open to all questions & answers them in the best of her ability. My only advice to you, is to show up & take advantage of her office hours. This class is only complicated, if you make it complicated.
show up to class ask questions keep up with the readings she is very fair.
at first i was scared to take this class because of the low ratings but i had no choice i needed this course. i passed with an A and she became one of my favorite teachers!! you get what you give, if you listen and copy all the notes it is a for sure A, it may seem difficult at first but its really not, it does take a lot of your time.
really awesome. inspiration. she writes her own book and really works with you when completing the hw. She tells you directly what she wants on the test and will sit down with you if you don't understand something. She keeps you entertained with her jokes and interesting topics.
Hollenberg really cares about students' education and will adjust her teaching to fit how each student understands as long as they take the time to ask questions. Her stories are funny and she applies them to the lecture, which makes learning feel a lot easier. I reached to her outside of class, and she spent as much time as I needed to help me.
Phil 3 class online. It might as well been Chinese. I did not understand a thing. I think Im smart so I waited until 3/4's of the way thru class before I finally gave up trying to figure out myself & emailed the professor. She was awesome! Explained in a very easy way to understand. My only regret I didnt ask her sooner
Professor Rachel is one of the best professor I have ever taken. She is a very reasonable person and cares about students' learning. For instance, she always gives students a chance to improve their grades if they are willing to do extra work to understand the materials better.
Philosophy intro to logic is a tough class, but this professor is very understanding and is always looking to help her students. She is funny and her lectures are not boring at all! She knows when the material is tough and does spend extra time on it if the class needs it. If you miss class constantly you will fall behind.
Shes and amazing teacher, very inspirational. she will make you love the class and she is more than willing to work with you to help bring up your grade. just remember "Logic is not Math" it just looks like it.
Prof. Hollenberg is open and willing to approach material different ways (whatever work she for you) in order for student to have a better understanding. She makes class interesting and fun nonetheless.
she is a great teacher! you have a online quiz for each lesson but its pretty easy if you pay attention in class and take good notes. at first i thought i was going to do bad in the class bc i didnt know what phil was but i ended with an A. she makes class really fun and she is always really helpful.
Prof. Hollenberg is a great professor! She is funny and she can teach in many different ways to help you understand the material better. I would suggest to go to her office hours if you ever need help on the material because she will help you on a one-to-one level.
Had a difficult time understanding the material but she really helped me in every way posssible until i understood the material.
This professor is AMAZING! She will give you the opportunity to raise your grade if you show her you are willing to do the work. Be ready to ask questions and ask for help! She will help you get that A.
Professor Hollenberg takes the time to schedule time with her to get some help on material you're not understanding. She also offers you to attend tutoring if you need further help after her helping you out. She is very patient on explaining the material different ways until you understand it. She is a very helpful teacher and I would recommend.
I had professor Hollenberg for a summer online class. At the beginning it was easy, but at the end I wasn't understanding the material. She was really nice in scheduling phone appointments and resetting any work I had troubled in. Always be on contact with her and demostrate you really want her help and she will help you with a great heart.
Hollenberg is one of the most caring Professors I've had. She understands that the material can be challenging. She wants everyone to pass and so she is accessible before class and even off campus, if need be. She's flexible on attendance but if you don't attend class you will not understand the material, unless this type of stuff is easy for you.
The professor is amazing, she will give it her all to help you pass. She is available after hours on the phone even just to make sure you will succeed. I know for sure if I needed help she would go out of the way to make sure I get the material. The in classroom labs can only help you succeed, if you need the class to graduate this is the Professor
Semester almost over and have learned so much more than "Horseshoes and Tildes". The material is hard but this Professor will not let you give up. It is true fifty percent of class got it, but the Professor did not leave those more challenged behind. The labs in class made this class unique and the Professor is terrific thank you so much Namaste
The class I took was an online class. Every step of the way Professor Hollenberg gave clear lectures and instructions. I am deeply appreciative of the time and care she put into the curriculum. She responds to inquiries promptly and with compassion. Not only did I learn some challenging material, I enjoyed it! Stellar class and professor!
She is such an amazing professor! I highly recommend you take her class! She is very sweet and caring. She is very reasonable and wants you to pass the class. Please take her. She is the best.
Great teacher hands down. You'll have to work for the grade as in every class the work wont do itself but she ain't out to ruin your social either. Attendance is not mandatory but make sure you show up at least once a week get some face time and let her now you're still alive or you might get dropped. Overall she's the most lenient teacher I've had
shes an amazing teacher, helps if you need it
Rachel Hollenberg is an amazing professor! She's understanding, caring, thorough, and really accessible during her office hours and email. She wants everyone to understand the material and pass. I spent all of the latter half of the semester in her office to get one-on-one help. I passed with a high A. You won't be sorry you took her class. Enjoy!
Took Phil 12 online and it was a great experience. I was hesitant to take a tougher class online but Dr. Hollenberg made it an easy transition from traditional classes to online. She attached video lectures which was helpful because Im a visual learner and she always responded quickly whenever I had a question. I recommended tacking her class!
No textbook use, just had to buy an access code for Cengage Mindtap which Prof. H made accessible through Canvas. It was $70. No tests or quizzes. Just the assignments and reading. Honestly, I hardly read any of the material and just jumped right in. It kind of explains the material before you start the assignment. She cares about her students!
She was one of the most understanding teachers that I have ever had. I had a real hard time in this class and she helped me so much, more than i thought i deserved to be honest. You'll be fine. Show that you put in the effort and she'll return the favor with help if needed. We did not use the textbook, it's all online.
She is one of the best professors you can take in this college! She is straight forward and teaches the subject very well and she will go out of her way so you can pass her class. If you need any help go and ask her and she'll be gladly to help you out. I took her for PHIL 12 and intro to Feminist Philosophy. Both very easy classes to take.
Prof. Hollenberg was a pleasure to take PHIL12 with she was alway accessible outside of class and sent constant reminders of due dates and didnt mind pushing back due dates for the betterment of her students. Just reach out to her if you need help and shell make sure you get the time and attention you need to pass.
Goes through the topic very thoroughly .
Professor Hollenberg is one of, if not the best professors Ive had at LBCC. As a philosophy major, I was dreading taking symbolic logic but, I passed! Of course, I had to work extremely hard though. The Professor didn't make the course challenening, the material we had to learn was just tough stuff but, she was SUPER helpful...
By far one of the best teachers I've ever had. The class was tough but what philosophy class isn't. If you put in the work, you will get the grade you want. If you're absent, you will regret it! Makes you feel super lost, just make sure you catch up with her during office hours. She was a huge help and does a great job explaining the criteria.
She is super nice, this class is pretty easy, there are no tests so there is less anxiety. She is understanding, and she will help you through it. You can tell she also loves her job and is very good at explaining. I suggest if you have a laptop or iPad it is even more easy... you can do the assignments while she teaches them.
I was apprehensive at first; initially we didn't click because I she couldn't remember my name for a few classes and it stung. But then ProfH got to know my name so the initial sting wore off and I truly got to enjoy this class. I saw how much Prof H truly cares about her students in office hours with all of us. Very kind but from east coast :-)
I took this class online and it was honestly the best. It was super easy as long and you understood the material and did the practice. I worked ahead a couple of weeks when I knew I had test coming up for other classes. I enjoyed this class as a working student and being able to do some of my work between my 1 hour gap with classes.
Essay homework and test. Shes the best. I too her last spring and passed with an A.
Professor H wants you to succeed. They are available outside of class and is very willing to accommodate to your schedule. They go above and beyond, including encouraging emails when you are struggling. They understand that the material isnt easy for everyone and works hard to get you through it. I would take all of my classes with them if I could
I took Symbolic Logic in fall 2020 & I absolutely loved the class. She was such a great prof & gave feedback on every single assignment. She really understood how to teach an online class & genuinely cared about her students. Anytime I had a question or concern she was easy to reach & talk to. I loved her lectures so much & the class was so fun!
Prof. Hollenberg is great. Symbolic Logic can be really tough (each week got harder & harder) but she is always ready to give feedback & help. Don't wait last minute to do the example problems because she is more than willing to go over them with you before the quiz (weekly). Do your work, ask for help if needed, & you're good to go.
Symbolic Logic is not the easiest class in the entire world. However, Professor Hollenberg really wants everyone to pass and do well. If you ever need extra help she will gladly give you as much extra help as you need until you are familiar with all the material. For a logic class, she is definitely a great choice.
Very kind professor. Im in philosophy of LGBTQ. It is sometimes tough bc the readings have difficult vocab and concepts, but she makes it as easy as possible to understand. My class is asynchronous online so idk how she is in person but online she is extremely kind, caring, gives great feedback, and makes sure everyone feels included. Take her!
The lectures were inspirational, never a dull moment. Tough grader, indeed. Was it worth it? yes, why? I have unlocked a new level of knowledge that many lack. 2 papers, weekly discussions and reading.
I have the pleasure of taking Dr. Hollenberg for PHIL22 as an online course. The material itself is so difficult, but she makes it 100% easier. She's not only kind, passionate, & smart, but she really wants her class to succeed. One of my favorite things about her teaching style is the chances she gives to redo assignments with her notes attached.
Professor H is super nice and great with correspondance. Phil22 isn't an easy subject but she breaks it down nicely. I think students feel encouraged like they can get through it-I know I did. I took this class online and it felt welcoming and safe at all times. Even when you get something wrong she kindly steers you towards a way to figure it out.
This is one of the best professors I've had. I was falling behind and she genuinely wants to see you succeed. She is always available if you have any questions. She is really clear on instructions and easy to understand as she will take the time to make sure you understand the material. Super caring overall!
Professor Hollenberg was fantastic. The course and class structure was conducive to learning and the pace was beneficial to students. Topics discussed was thoughtful and aligned well with the course. I highly recommend Professor Hollenberg. I respect Professors who understand that the objective in any learning environment is learning the subject.
She gives a clear structured outline of what you are gonna do. You have 9 discussions, 6 quizzes, and 2 essays. Don't worry it's extremely easy and she allows you to do discussions over if you need to. You really only have to skim through the readings for the discussions and quizzes it's all really simple.
This online class is perfect for a student interested in logic and who is willing to do the work. Keep up with all assignments and utilize Professor H's help. She encourages you to reach out and gives you the opportunity to receive credit on wrong quiz questions if you show you understand. Overall, I enjoyed the class/professor and would recommend!
I usually enjoy philosophy. This class felt so tedious. Assignments were busy-work. You read through extensive articles that feel like big words tied together with a piece of string. Never scored so low in a course & wish I'd dropped it when I had the chance. I'm stuck with this on record & it feels like a bag of bricks straight to my mental health
There are no textbooks, but you will find yourself reading excerpts of books she provides. However, the readings are so informative and interesting that you'll want to read more. Quizzes are extremely simple; there are two essays, and they are also easy. I thoroughly enjoyed taking this class!
Philosophy 10 was an interesting course. The amount of work for the 8-week course is manageable and she gave clear instructions on what was expected. No curb balls. One thing I liked about taking the class with her was that she didn't just give a grade but actually took the time to provide feedback.
Well, the class is semi-difficult because of the nature of the subject, so don't take this class if you are completely uninterested in learning how to break down the English language into logical and clear-cut ways. Otherwise, very great, kind, considerate, and flexible in classwork. She lets you fix incorrect discussions and will give.a small hint
I was in her class for two philosphy classes for spring semester. They were both online. She was a very easy teacher and I did not find her class difficult. She always gave you chances to make assignments up. In addition, she provided feedback on all works, including discussion post, displaying that she was engaging with student work as well.
She was very kind and sweet and really works with you when you are having trouble. You could tell she actually cares about her students.
this class is like math with letters so a little challenging for me, pay attention and watch all the videos. professor is really understanding and positive, accepts late work up until the last day of semester so revise and resubmit all you docked assignments for as much credit as you can!! unlimited attempts at assignments but quizzes are final.
PHIL 1H (LGBTQIA+) - Dr. Hollenberg provided the class with interesting and relevant articles and videos which we would then discuss in class. These discussions were a great way to learn multiple perspectives. Dr. H provides a welcoming classroom environment and encourages individual participation. She is approachable and welcomes questions.
Sweet professor who makes sure everyone is comfortable discussing hard topics. Dr. Hollenberg is accepting of all and willing to give everyone an opportunity to share their thoughts. Some readings were tedious others were interesting. Definitely take her class for feminist and LGBTQ
great professor who attempts to make students feel comfortable in very serious and sensitive topics. but this class is not for the weak! if you take in person, you have you participate in discussions and sometimes it can get very personal and emotional. can be a little triggering, but definitely are topics necessary to become aware about. ty prof!
Prof. H has been one of my favorite professors at LBCC. I took the honors version of 10H so she definitely expected you to do the weekly readings, but the weekly discussions were interesting and meaningful. She's super accessible out of class and truly cares about her students.
Her lectures are helpful and insightful. I had her in person, so participation did matter and was a part of the grade. She makes an effort to learn more about you and is super sweet. The assigned readings are interesting but quite lengthy. Do the readings, participate in class, and turn in your assignments, and you'll be good!
Prof. Hollenberg is an incredibly intelligent, kind, and patient professor. Because the way her class if structured, coming to class prepared and ready to discuss the readings/videos is very important. However, that isn't too difficult because the readings and video material she assigns are pretty interesting.
Dr. Hollenberg guided us kindly through the abstruse world of symbolic logic, with clear explanations and sincere effort to reach every student. She wastes no time getting into the material each class period, yet doesn't count tardies against you. Generously available for additional tutoring outside of class. Take her class--highly recommend!
Prof. Hollenberg makes the heavy topics of this class engaging. While discussions can get emotional, this course is manageable with the right approach. unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep.
Be prepared to read some heavy readings and discuss some serious topics. The readings are very long and you really have to focus in order to understand and be ready to talk about. Participation/attendance matters. Every class you will sit together and discuss the readings— she does talk a lot. You have one essay and a handful of quizzes.
Prof. Hollenberg offers a rigorous and thoughtful introduction to feminist topics. Readings can be complex. Classtime is a moderated discussion where each person speaks and Prof. H. responds and clarifies their questions/comments. It goes a little slow, but the shyer students participate and feel heard. She wants to help you understand and succeed.
really good at teaching the class and never shames people for not knowing questions. also gives great feedback on what you get wrong take this prof
Grading criteria is MESS! MAKES NO SENSE
Worst experience!! no prerequisites, but she sure made us start with bare minimum context to what we were learning. Fumbled my dsps accommodations for so long that i only got them confirmed when the class was half over. For a class about diversity and acceptance, kind of insane! Unclear syllabus, baffling class format, infuriating communication.
Her Grading Criteria are all over the place! Although most of the assignments and tests are easy to do, the paper she assigns is what tanks your grade, if you miss it. She does not teach! You are basically on your own with the readings provided. Also, she does not believe in extra credit!
