Professor Koch is a nice lady. Average professor. Personally, I wouldn't take her again but she wasn't awful. She gave us a midterm the week before the final. Grade is based off tests, quizzes, and weekly homework. It's average difficulty if you put the work in
Koch will not give you free grades, and is a harsh grader. However, she will ALWAYS answer any questions asked, and puts in more work than most professors in my experience. She was constantly giving feedback to her students, and tried her best to make the math subject matter fun. Attendance is not mandatory, but highly recommended.
Ms. Koch is a solid teacher. She often opens old assignments back up later in the semester so you can make up any missed work. she is very forgiving with late work and is always willing to help you. She is a fair teacher and you always know what is expected of you. She is also very understanding about the struggles with covid and online classes.
Great teacher, if you do the bare minimum you should still get an A minus.
SO AMAZING! Professor Koch is a very great professor and understands the struggles of online classes. She is very straightforward and there is many grades in the grade book. She drops your lowest test grade and gives extra credit at the end of the semester!
So sweet and understanding, really explains the material well in class. Going to class helps a lot because there is homework for every lecture. Only thing is you need to study A LOT.
Such a kind teacher and understanding person. She gives guided notes which are very helpful to stay on track during lectures, even though class was not mandatory. All our work was done on Hawkes Learning System which was very easy to navigate. Probably the best math teacher you could get for 220!
Professor Koch is a very nice lady and genuinely cares about her students. The class was heavily based around the online textbook and there are multiple homework assignments each week. It's not a terrible amount of work but you have to stay on top of things. Final is cumulative but most other tests were short and done through the online textbook.
Just a boring class, but it's pretty easy, and Koch is a solid choice. I would suggest going to lectures instead of trying to figure everything out on your own. If you go to lectures you'll be good.
I LOVE Professor Koch! She truly cares about her students and is very great at explaining things. The curriculum is easy- you use an online program in order to do tests and homework. Unlimited amounts for homework. I truly loved this class and would take it again in a heartbeat!
Koch is a very good choice for math 220. She's very good at explaining the material even in an online course. There's quite a few tests but she gives you a week to complete them. Homework is an easy 100 as long as you complete it.
Professor Koch is the best! She is a great teacher who is always willing to help if you don't understand the concept. She is also very understanding about the heavy workload and allows a 1 week extension on the exams if you are unable to complete it on time. TAKE HER
She doesnt really teach, she reads exactly what is on the slides. Also works super fast and never gives you enough time to take notes no matter how many times you ask her to go back to a slide. Overall this class is going to kill me because I will be learning everything completely on my own and in tutoring.
Reads off of her slides. I have to reteach myself everything because what we do in class is not on homework or exams. Her lectures are long and boring and if I have a question she will do anything but answer it.
Don't bother taking this class. She reads straight from the textbook and just goes over the problems without explaining anything. Had to get a tutor because I haven't understood anything that she teaches. The most annoying part is, each homework question has 5 sections per question and is only worth 1 point overall. Avoid at all costs.
Professor. Koch does not thoroughly explain the material, and reads from slides. I studied for days and felt defeated after the exam. She does not answer questions, she gives vague responses that do not help. I truly hope something changes before the semester ends.
She goes through the slides really fast and it makes my hand cramp taking notes. However, she has the slides accessible after class and will do whatever she can to help you understand the concept if you reach out for help. There's not a ton of homework but when there is if there's confusion she'll walk you through each problem in her office hours
Don't listen to the bad reviews. Prof Koch is a decent teacher, calc is a hard class no matter what but she tries her best to explain what she means. She goes through her slides fast but she makes sure you understand. She also tries to relate the class to business since most COB majors have to take this class. Solid choice for calc
Shes a solid choice for calc and I didnt have any of the issues other people had with calc. Do the projects and homework. She does go through slides fast but theyre on Canvas. She has a ton of office hours and is really nice. Attendance was non mandatory for my class but we had exit assignments that made it basically mandatory.
Rachel Koch isnt too bad of a teacher, but in her words This isnt high school You definitely have to put in work outside of class and study study study. Passing her class is obtainable if you dont expect your hand held. Also study with a group for her exams! You can definitely pass the class with a C.
Professor Koch is a really nice teacher. Her lectures move really fast and she goes through the slides rather quickly making it impossible to write down notes but she does give guided notes which are pretty helpful. The math problems on the tests and homework are way harder than the ones in class and on the exit tickets. Be prepared to work hard!
don't listen to the bad reviews listen to me! as a person who is not naturally good at math, koch was amazing to have. she is SO nice and will answer any questions u have in class during lecture. if u ask for help on assignments she is more than willing to give it. her lectures are very reflective of whats on the tests, so its easy to do well!
She isn't a terrible professor but she is most definitely not good. She goes super fast through the slides and does not clearly explain the material. She is not the best at answering questions but I think that is just because she does not understand people very well. It is not too difficult to do well in this class if you put in the effort.
Professor Koch is a good choice for MATH205. Calc can be hard but if you go see her and do the homework and study for the tests you will do fine. You have to know the info to pass the class. There is a lot of homework but for the most part it is easy and doesn't take too long.
I'm not the best at math but professor Koch was very supportive and helpful. She made herself available for questions in class and has 4 office hours available during the week. Sometimes she goes a little fast in class but its not bad if you use her pre-made notes. We didn't use the textbook but you will need to buy the online homework system.
Professor Koch is super sweet and wants her students to succeed in the class. During class she uses powerpoints to go over the content, but if you have questions she's always willing to stop and help. Attendance isn't "required", but there are in class assignments sometimes that are graded. Homework is online and it's not a crazy amount.
Math does not come to everyone the same way. It's easier for some people than others. The groups encourage teamwork and friendship, but they also lead to people not learning the material as well. Lectures are difficult to understand so take good notes. Ask for (math) and not conceptual based reviews to study for the exams and you should be okay.
I personally loved Miss K. She would give us mental health days and she really understood us from a student's perspective. Lots and lots of homework but they are pretty straight-forward. Highly recommend going to office hours, you will get an easy A if so. The only sucky thing is she flies through PowerPoints and is not as explanatory in class.
I have had her twice (for Math 155 and Math 205). I got a D- in Algebra because I am terrible at Math, but while she grades by the book and gives no gifts, she wants her students to do well and is accessible for extra help. I actually did better in Calculus than Algebra because I put in more effort and adapted to how she teaches.
doesn’t respond to emails, i had covid and had to miss an exam and she never responded to my emails about it and never let me make it up. dealt with other health issues all semester and she was not understanding and was also extremely rude at all times for no reasons. would only cooperate with me when i contact the head of the department.
Easy to follow class, but moves a little fast. Will always answer your questions thoroughly and truly wants you to do well. Tests are similar to material covered in class, and the homework on WebAssign are doable. If you have any sort of previous calc knowledge, it will be very easy for you. Very nice prof and would recommend!
I love Professor K! I think her lectures were very explanatory as she went over lots of examples. She also walks around the classroom after lessons offering help on exit assignments. There is a good amount of homework (it's honestly excellent practice for the exams, though), but she's still a great option for MTH 205.
She will curve your grade to her liking, if she doesn't like you she will give you a letter grade down which makes no sense.
So Professor Koch is good, but the course went by too fast. Is this her fault or the curriculum's fault? I don't know but after spring break, we were getting slammed with work after work. She does offer tons of office hours, so take advantage. Tests were pretty tough too sometimes, no multiple choice.
She is a sweet lady but I had to teach myself most of the material.
Hope you have extensive prior knowledge about the course material or are prepared to teach yourself the entire subject. She's a sweet lady but burns through material at an insane rate and never fully explains the subject material.
she reads directly off the slides and doesnt fully explain material at all. she likes some students but to others shes very passive. go through at least a section and a half per class. exit assignment every class and heavy homework every night.
Burns through material, tests contain a lot of topics,
reads off slides, not very in depth at all, but test are easy if you know the topic
Not helpful and rush material
DO NOT TAKE HER! She doesn't care about if the students learn she rushes through slides and gives an exit ticket at the end of the class which is graded. All test are on paper
She goes through her lectures very fast and it is hard to pick up what you need to learn. She also teaches us new things right before the exam and it won't be on the exam. The homework assignments are very hard and with little description on how to do them. She is very nice but I would suggest in finding another teacher then her.
Professor Koch is an extremely nice lady, but is a TERRIBLE math teacher. For one, she talks very lightly so you cannot hear a word she says. She goes through lessons like water and does not explain any of the work that is on the homework due to following week. I re teach myself every single lesson because she cannot teach it correctly
While Professor Koch seems like a decent lady, she has no place in teaching. With finals around the corner, roughly half her class is failing. The tests cover a ton of material, the lessons are rushed and hard to follow, and the lessons hardly provide the knowledge to complete the homework. The homework requires a $80 service. Don't take this class
You cannot makeup any exams or in class assignments and that tanks your grade if you're absent. You can't even make up an exam if you have a positive covid test because she drops the lowest grade. I know people who took exams with covid and the flu because they got a low grade on a different exam and would fail if they didn't at least take it
It took me a little to get used to Professor K's teaching style, but it's not too hard to succeed. Just pay attention, do the homework, and do practice questions for the exams and you'll do fine. Exit assignments every class but she helps a lot and you should get a 100 on them. She is very forgiving on grading and will help if you ask for it!
Professor Koch is a great 205 professor. College calculus is no joke so the course content is not always the easiest but Koch is SUPER willing to help you during office hours until you understand the material. She is a very understanding professor. Each class is lecture-based followed by a short exit assignment. Definitely recommend taking her.
She's very nice and always willing to help students who don't understand the material. Moves through slides very fast, but it's because of the curriculum. Homework assignments are online and I found to be quite difficult at times. It's like any math class, but moves much quicker. Go to office hours and watch a few YouTube videos, you'll be OK.
professor koch isnt horrible, but could put me to sleep in class after three red bulls. non-engaging lectures and failed to teach me anything.
She is the sweetest person ever. Math 155 is a lot of course work and goes pretty fast but she makes it easier. She drops your lowest test grade at the end of the semester and a few of your lowest assignment grades. There is weekly homework assignments to do online. I would definitely take her again, she's super easy to talk to.
I asked professor k a question on how to solve a problem, she tried to help me but i still couldn't understand, so she dismissed me and told me to google it. exit tickets at the end of lectures that are graded. two hw assignments per week.
Professor Koch is an extremely nice woman who always wants her students to succeed. I took MATH 205 last semester, and she teaches very well. She gives a lot of online homework and an exit assignment every class, but they're extremely helpful in learning the material and boosting your grade. Take professor Koch for MATH 205 you won't regret it!!!!!
One of the most confusing classes I've taken. I took AP Calc in high school but didn't get credit from the exam and I still couldn't understand her methods or excel in the class. She explains things in a very wordy, confusing way. She does give many homework assignments that aren't too hard, so it is easy to raise your grade, but exams were tough.
Professor Koch is a great teacher and person overall. Of course this class is hard... its calculus. She did a great job teaching the material and being available. She wants to help you learn and succeed. She does do exit tickets and homeworks for every class but they are easy if you pay attention and serve as a grade booster!
Mrs. K is great. She drops the lowest test score (not the final). There are 4 tests, and a final. Study guides for all. Exit tickets every class so def go. They boost your grade a ton. She gives extra credit on all tests. Many office hours. Homeworks are online. Easy points.
Professor Koch is an amazing professor. She is very understanding and cares about her students' success. There is a lot of in class work and notes that you have to take.
Mrs. K is a great professor. I had her for MATH 155 & 205. She gives partial credit on all work. Not always the most reliable in office hours, but she will answer questions in class too. 4 test (drop the lowest), homework for each section, and cumulative final. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, show up; in class assignments are worth a lot.
Great professor, uses guided notes so she moves pretty fast. She answers questions nicely and drops the lowest exam!
She is a good professor. You have to go to class. She does notes and gives them to you online so you can print them if you want. Every class you have an exit assignment thats graded but she will help you with it and will tell you if you got it right before you turn it in so you should get a 100 every time.
She is a really great teacher. Attendance is not mandatory but I would definitely show up!
Do not take her for College Algebra. I didn't need to take this course and took it because I love math. This course made me hate math. When I asked questions she would just respond with "the answer is in your notes." Everything is on paper. She gives homework every class. Exams are much harder than what is learned in class.
Took her for college algebra, and I am glad I did. JMU math is notoriously hard, and if I had not retaken this I would be left floundering. The homework is harder than your notes, but if you apply yourself and reference notes while doing homework you can understand it better.
Prof. Koch is an awesome teacher and person. I enjoyed her class a lot, she gives out note outlines for each lecture and does a really good job on giving feedback on graded work. There is an exit ticket each class but she drops 3 at the end of the semester.
If you go to her office hours, she is so helpful. Her exams are super similar to the review. She can be very boring but makes the class not too difficult and spends more time on the harder material. Go to class because you will fall super behind. The homework is time-consuming and is honestly harder than the actual exams. Would recommend.
Classes aren't bad. You lecture for 3/4 of every class and then there's a worksheet at the end of each lecture based off the material learned. Helps you understand the material better and helps the time go faster in each class. The exam reviews are very similar to the exams. If you study those you'll do good on all the exams. Homework is easy too.
Rachel Koch is not a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss a class or two it's very hard to get back on track because there's daily exit assignments, homework assignments, and lecture notes. If you ask the professor a question, she responds very condescendingly and is not helpful at all. If you're not good at math, AVOID HER!
Professor Koch is one of the only math professors here that have actually worked for me, she assigns a lot of work with exit assignments and homework as well as there are 4 exams on top of the final but for each exam she gives out a detailed review guide which covers everything the exam will go over. definitely take her if you can!!
She was a great professor in and out of class. Very helpful with those who struggle with math and is willing to help with various office hours. Also offers makeup homeworks if your grade on the hw is lower than you want and it helps to practice towards the tests.
Would recommend if you're not good at math. Fair warning if you do not show up you will fall behind. Daily exit assignments at the end of class, but she will help you out if you're struggling with it. Exams are challenging but if you study, it won't be too bad, drops worst exam grade at the end of the semester.
There are exit tickets which is basically your attendance because they are only available in class and you will get a zero if it isnt turned in. Tests are very straight forward and she provides a study guide. Overall, her lectures are very easy to understand and you can leave early most days if you finish your exit ticket quickly.
She a really good professor and really cares if you do well in the class there are 4 exams and a final she drops the worse exam grade. There is an exit ticket at the end of each class which is basically your attendance grade she drops the five lowest scores and there's 2 homework assignments a week based on what you learned that week.
There is an exit assignment for every class period. attendance isn't mandatory, but if you skip 1 class, you'll miss an entire page of the next test. if you do the homework and go to class, it is an easy A. (i didnt go to class alot)
Mrs. K is the best professor I have had. I actually learned and retained the information. There are exit assignments after each lecture, which counts for your attendance. She drops the two lowest as well as your lowest exam grade (there are 4 exams). HIGHLY reccomend taking her if you do the work and put effort into understanding, you will do great
If you go to class and do the homework you will be fine. She has a 5 point “exit ticket” each class that is not accepted any other time, so you kinda need to go to class. The homework can be a bit excessive, like 25 questions on one unit and may take you an hour or two. The exam reviews are just like the exam, so that was nice too.
Solid pick, she has graded exit tickets every class, so attendance matters. Theres three normal tests and drops the lowest one, but theres a cumulative final that can't be dropped. The study guides are very similar to the tests, and she posts answers. Homework was once a week online. There was extra credit opportunities at the end of the year.
If you put the effort in you will do well. 4 tests, drops lowest score, 1-2 HWs due every monday, and exit tickets which count as your attendance at the end of every class (drops 5 lowest scores). She gives good reviews which mirror the tests. Most of the class is lecture/guided notes and the rest is for exit tickets. Lots of extra credit on tests!
Miss K's lectures are extremely straightforward, she and her TAs are always available and explain the content well, and a few assignments + 1 test are dropped at the end of the semester. As long as you put in a reasonable amount of effort, this is honestly a pretty easy class and it's clear that Miss K wants us to succeed - she's very approachable!
She is the best! So helpful in class & office hours. Her exams are similar to the reviews (so helpful) and she puts bonus questions for extra points on every test. 4 exams + final and drops lowest grade (not final). HWs give you 5 attempts per Q and help cushion grade. End of class assignments help you learn the material a lot. She loves to help u!
She wants her students to succeed and has office hours three times a week on top of PASS sessions held by the TA. You need to put in some effort but she gives you all the resources you need. If you are considering taking her - DO ITTT!!! I am not typically good with math but I currently have a B in the class.
Math is a super difficult class for me and Professor K was extremely helpful in mu success in MATH 205. Her office hours and her availability to go through each question I had on assignments were the reason Calc was bearable Please take her if you struggle with Math, if you put in the work and effort she will help you pass the best way she can
I feel like this professor picks and chooses, every time I asked a question I felt dumb after and she usually is condescending. The notes weren't good for me because she would just speed through and Id be more worried about copying it than listening. I'd spend days studying for a exam and still fail. She'd force office hours that weren't helpful
Professor K is amazing, she has exit assignments which when you complete you can leave they are easy grades but at the end of the day graded so don't skip. Her exams match her reviews perfectly so if you do problems like you ones you see on that you will be fine. Took calc in high school so this class was fairly easy and all review for me.
If you need to take math for any reason, take miss k. Her class was clear and well structured, she has a great teaching style and posted the homework so I could do it right away after lecture and get it done for the week. She's super available outside of class for help if you fall behind and gives lots of extra credit questions on exams.
Very kind and helpful. Go to her office hours if you need extra help, and you will be fine. Cuts down material to what will be on exams
She gives packets for you to follow along with the notes on and practice questions on your own, she will answer any and all questions and will explain anything in great detail until you understand. As long as you keep up and pay attention during lectures which is very easy you should do well in her class.
Easy class but horrible teacher, skips over useful problems during notes and homework almost is never the same material as what you learn so they're pretty pointless. She also miswrites things on notes and reviews so some problems just don't make sense at all. This happens alot. Graded pretty much entirely off of 5 exams.
Shes a really easy grader, her lectures were pretty easy to understand and she prints out the notes as packets so you don't have to struggle trying to write down everything she has on the board. You have to complete an exit ticket before you leave for class but if you can't finish it she has office hours and PASS sessions. Overall, really easy.
Do not take her. She speeds through the lectures while reading off notes so you don't understand anything. If you have a question she is no help at all. Makes mistakes in her own reviews so I am reteaching myself the wrong info. So hard to learn as she just reads off the board instead of teaching. Get ready to teach yourself everything.
Genuinely a great professor, she definitely cares about her students and their success. 4 exams and 1 final but 1 exam gets dropped. 2 homework's a week and an exit slip at the end of the class. she gives a fair amount of work but gives a lot of partial credit. if you show up to class and actually put your best effort in, you will get an A
For MATH155 there's daily assignments so attendance is taken there but its not worth much. Homework can take a while but it's manageable. All course notes are posted online. Had to pay out of pocket for online homework assignments though. Optional practice exams even for the final are extremely similar so if you study those you'll be fine.
I'm glad I had Mrs. K for Math 155. She explained in a very clear way and was open for questions. The homework was usually enough for me to feel confident in the material. Koch and her TAs were very helpful for the graded in-class assignments. Homework was light for college math. Def important that you do that and show up for the in-class work.
