Miss Nead tries to help everyone, even the people that did not want to help themselves. She is a very nice professor, but can sometimes fall off topic. She is very lenient, but will not give you a grade you dont deserve. She made the class very fun for everyone even the kids that are not so great with communication. VERY much recommend!
ms. nead is a great teacher I really recommend you to get enroll in her class because its fun, easy and interesting
Shes very wacky and fun. She might talk alot about other things but she knows her stuff. Four sppeches the whole semester. Take her if you wanna learn and pass you wont regret it.
I would recommend this class. She is a very easy and helpful instructor. She sometimes can fall off topic but for the most part the class can be a easy A or B if you show slight effort.
She is helpful, but she just doesn't make her expectations clear. She rambles about the same nonsense so it is hard to make sense. Thankfully the text makes sense so I was able to pass with the grade I desired. Take someone else if you actually want to learn something in class.
Ms. Nead is not only am amazing teacher but an amazing person as well. You can tell she's one of those teachers that she wants every student to succeed. There are about 4 speeches throughout the year and there are 2 test. The test are difficult but as long as you study you'll pass. Ms. Nead is passionate about this subject but makes the class fun. She does get distracted a little but it usually has to do with the topic. I recommend her as a teacher (:
Mrs. Nead is a passionate teacher of her Communication subject, so this is why you will learn no matter what in her class. She gets you involved in the presentations and conversation. But don't be mislead with her cute sense of humor, you have to meet her at least half way to earn your grade. Do the work do your best and you will pass.
great teacher, very funny, will help if you ask .i loved her i would take her class again if i needed to.i definately recommend her
Ms. Nead is the best! She's so awesome and she is a great professor. She truly cares about her students and makes the class fun so you can actually understand the material. Oral presentation are very strait-forward and as long as you follow all the guidelines there is no reason why you should pass. Overall fun class and great professor! Take her!!
Goes off subject constantly, which it makes retaining the important things from the lecture difficult. But it is an easy class, but if you are communications major or plan on learning anything from the class rather than just taking it for GE credit i would highly recommend taking the course with a different instructor.
Really nice professor. I recommend taking her class because she is so nice that it is easier to do speeches in front of her. She will help you and try to get you involved in the class.
I am not the kind of person that enjoys doing presentations. However, professor Nead made this class so fun and engaging! I became more comfortable in doing my speeches! I definitely learned a lot in this class. Sometimes she goes off topic but I always enjoyed attending class. She is friendly. But you gotta do your work and the projects to pass!
She's really sweet :)
R. Nead is the best teacher ever! She is really sweet. You need to do 3 presentation and 1 outside presentation, but the presentations are very easy. I have never given a presentation, but she makes the class fun and makes you feel really comfortable. You just need to turn in your assignments, which aren't many! Easy A!
Nice teacher. Try to take class with a friend or make friends quickly in class, you have a partner presentation and a group presentation. Cares a lot about the students and wants you to genuinely pass and do well. Takes awhile to get grades back but she does give you feedback
3 Required presentations & 1 outside presentation that can be replaced with an essay at the end of the term. Only two tests, one is the midterm and the other was the final. Super nice and she gives back to her students! Very sweet and caring. Make some friends so you have future partners!
She is really nice her class is really easy!!! TAKE HER!!
She was an ok teacher. Would not recommend to anyone.
Prof Nead is sweet. She wants to see you pass. Her class is not hard, but you really have to pay attention to her requirements on presentations. She uses blackboard a lot so you have to make sure you know all your deadlines on BB. She does provide you with proper instructions but make sure you read them. She will deduct points for small things.
She's loves what she teaches, but she can get really off topic. She also likes to talk to specific students during class (off topic) and it gets kind of annoying. Her tests are super easy. She says even though she doesn't get through all the lectures you have you read the textbook to pass; I never read the textbook and I passed. Easy class
This professor is AMAZING!! She makes her class interesting and has the greatest teaching method. She really cares about her students, she goes above and beyond because she loves what she does. I would take this class all over again just to have her as my professor. Take her, you won't regret it!
Best Teacher I've had. She helps when needed and lets you focus on your work. recommend.
She's so nice. Let's get to the point, if you show up most of the time and look like your trying, she will raise your grade 5% at the end. More importantly, if you miss class once or twice and did most of the easy HW, she'll most likely round that low B (80%) to an A! And you do actually learn from her as she applies ideas to real world example.
Great professor, I will take this instructor again if a need great teach grade way to make students learn and to see this class easy my personal advice is that be careful you must read that book mandatory :) great class.
Throughout the whole semester, she didn't give lectures. She made us read "The Art of Public Speaking" and expects us to teach ourselves. She took a whole month to give back one graded presentation. Two exams a semester, each contains approx. 58 questions from 8 chapters. If I could give her an F, I would. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!
she is really nice. but the class can get overwhelming if you leave everything for the last minute. study the powerpoints and book to pass the test! if u like getting deep into real life subjects I recommend taking her> overall a good teacher! can get pretty boring and she laughs at really dumb stuff! only three presentations
Nead often leaves a lot of homework (if not all) through the campus app rather than announcing them in class, which may catch you off guard if you aren't constantly checking the app. She is often silly but has a nice personality if you can handle her rambling off every now and then.
tangents, tangents, tangents. Our class maybe got through 3/4 whole lectures as a class. You have to teach yourself otherwise you will not pass. She is nice although she can be a bit of a narcisisst. If youre a student who prefers to get straight to the point and actually learn, DO NOT take this class.
Worst class yet at SWC. This is a comm class, but she doesn't give you feedback for weeks (or months) till it's useless. Meaningless ramble in class. Expects you to know half the textbook for each exam and she doesn't have to teach anything. In her own world. Should not be teaching. Doesn't care if you are caught off guard. Don't take her
Hands down one of my favorite professors! I highly recommend taking this course with her!
I loved how this communications class was online because I hate speaking in front of a class. You do need a textbook for this class but I did learn a lot from it. The work is easy, discussions, quizzes, exams, papers and projects. You can get ahead and if you stay on top of it you should have no problem.
There were many times I struggled with my mental health this semester and professor Nead was always so understanding. Make sure to check canvas weekly for assignments as she forgets to mention them most of the time. Dont worry about presenting, she makes it SO easy and comfortable:)
Had her for a short-session class. Ms. Nead is easygoing and has more of a laissez-faire leadership. Class was tolerable, especially if you're shy. You'll do lecture but you can find most of it in Canvas or your textbook, if you get it. APA style papers. Attendance. CHECK CANVAS for hw.
Good teacher and very enthusiastic. Tends to get off topic really quick and for long periods. It took an average of 20 minutes per 1 slide. However, if youre good at studying on your own or you take good notes youll be fine. The rants also make the class go by quicker.
This is a long over due review, but I took her in the Fall of 2018 and honestly it wasnt that bad. It was an easy class. Im a shy person but when it came to presentations it wasnt so bad. Shes really cool and chill. She gets off topic here and there. You can fail the exams and still pass the class bc the presentations ways more on your grade.
Her exams are multiple choice. She great with getting people engaged on talking about presentations youll understand what shes talking about, caring, understandable, and nice easy to talk to! The only thing youll hate is that she grades stuff super slowly first she grade the big projects ( they arent hard ) that worth like 85 or 25 points.
She is a very slow grader, your grades would probably not be fully uploaded until the last week of class so just prepare yourself and try to do eveything on time. check canvas regularly for assignments. her two test are easy if you do the assignments and read the textbook.
I actually took this Ms. Nead for 3 semesters straight, her lectures for 103 and 176 are amazing and really interesting you learn things from her that you wouldn't with another teacher. There is impromptu speeches for quiz points in all her classes and the textbook is needed for hw. She's really understanding and actually cares for her students too
Professor Nead is a fun and hilarious person to be with. She is always there to help you! There is not that many of tests probably once every 2-3 weeks. NO Pop Quizzes! She cares for all her students, she gives not that much or little homework its average.... She gives good feedback. LECTURES ARE AWESOME:) 100% WOULD RECCOMEND
Ms. Nead is an amazing professor. Her lectures are easy to understand and if you happen to miss anything, she posts the powerpoint on Canvas. She deviates from the lecture at times, but as long as you catch up on your own time, you'll be fine. She is very lenient and hilarious. Overall, she cares for her students and the homework is easy.
Shes a really good professor, teaches you about how to use school in life. As long as you mention all your sources on your speeches and hit the time limit youll get an A on them! Tests are super easy! Shes just a little bit hard to talk to before or after class.
I was scared to take this class because I don't like speaking in front of people, however this class was not bad at all. As long as you try your best when presenting, you will be fine. The lectures were never boring and the homework was simple. I highly recommend Professor Nead.
She's the best teacher I've ever had!even though she was my proff we ended being friends! She also got to met my crazy daughter and literally she's the best and she makes the class be your home!!!!!!!!she's very understandable!!!!!!dude im telling you take her class and get to know her! I remember when I use to walk with her on campuseveryoneknewher
Had her for Spring '20. The nature of the class meant we'd do a few group projects, but they were easy. Helps you learn how to find sources, cite, & write a speech. We had one assignment to do outside of class, but it was easy as well. Lots of textbook homework, but they didn't take too long. Prep for the speeches & you'll get a good grade.
Takes forever to grade. I didn't get most of my things graded till the day grades are due but she acts vey young but mature at the same time which is good. She grades real easy on speeches.
Rachel is an awesome human being, but as a teacher she was ok. I did not learn anything in the class. Transitioned to online class due to COVID, and she was not consistent.
Ms. Nead is a very kind and silly teacher. Her lectures were very clear. Before COVID, we took a test that was related to the textbook and I was not able to read it so I believe I did not do too well. However, the 3 speeches made up for it, as well as the little assignments. After COVID, you just had to stay on track with her and you will pass!
She's a great teacher. She always responds to emails when you have a question. If you do the work and the readings then you will pass. I highly recommend her.
Easy A only if you do the work. Took this class during summer, was very easy, just some vocab sheets, usual Canvas post + replying to your peers about different topics. Maybe like one essay. It was manageable, not bad at all.
I highly recommend taking this professor. I really enjoyed her class and her energy.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR INTERSESSION!!!! this professor does not adjust her curriculum for intersession classes and has you do a weeks worth of information in one day. On average get ready to write over 2,000 words a week plus speeches papers and other assignments. Allows two attempts on quizzes but averages the two scores. Who does that?
Took her fast track course. Constantly felt like I was drowning in work. Expect to be turning in 6 or so assignments a week. Multiple group projects. Obscure instructions. I spent a long time drafting how I would explain all my grievances but I'll just leave you with this: never again.
Took this during the summer and maaan, was there A LOT of homework. Seriously like up to 8, 9 assignments PER WEEK. Some of these based off readings from the textbook you also have to do, long discussion posts and replies, as well as group projects. It was just SO MUCH for a fast track course. Rethink it if you have other classes.
This teacher is by far my favorite teacher. She loves her students and stands up for them. I went to Professor Nead for a personal problem and she went above and beyond for me. As a former student of hers, I highly recommend her!
Professor Nead is very kind and compassionate. She cares about her students and wouldn't think twice when standing up for them. I took her class over summer and although it was a lot of reading, I would take her course again. She uses her real life experiences and connects to the topic we are discussing.
From beginning my First Term in college, I didn't expect rest assured, Professor Nead led me in the Summer Readiness Program 2022 with EOPS and it was an honor to be in her class. Work is relatively easily and there is a variety of group projects but up most, I highly recommend having her as a professor
She is a great teacher overall. However, it takes her a while to reply back to you if you have any questions or concerns that was my only problem with this class and also her grading takes a while a few days. Other than that it is a fun class I actually learned a lot of things and just be sure to do the assignments especially quizzes/tests on time.
She had us complete 3 presentations, 2 of which are not alone. She never gave feedback on the presentation and made us take notes on other people's presentations to never turn them in or receive a grade so it was a waste of time. She also went off topic a lot, wasting class time that could've been used for something else.
I would not recommend this professor. Her quizzes throughout the semester had nothing to do with what we learned. What frustrated me the most about this course was the work due the final week. She assigned 2discussions, 3papers, and the final which had questions that we had to answer with large paragraphs. She assigned a lot of unnecessary work.
Professor Nead is very nice but she does make it clear that she grades you what she thinks you deserve. There is a kinda a lot of work but it's easy. There are 3 presentations and the final which open notes and open book. As long as you try a bit and do the work you can pass the class with a B pretty easily. She gives some EC opportunities as well.
I took Professor Nead's class as a 3.5 week intercession class and it was a LOT of work but it wasn't hard work. Even though it was an online class the students had a lot of opportunity to get to know each other, which made the presentations much easier. Professor Nead was very easy to reach and left really nice, thoughtful feedback while grading.
If u take online, lots of discussion posts but there's a word count even for the 2 student responses. If u read the book, the hw is very easy and weekly. She's not super strict about deadlines, but not too lenient either. Multimodal hw made the content engaging past the book (required). If looking for a COMMS credit without much public speaking! :)
Overall she was a great and understanding teacher. She gave us lots of online busy work that was kind of pointless. Those assignments were pretty easy though. You have to do three presentations that are required in ALL communication classes. She tended to ramble off on nonsense of stuff that did not really matter. Overall she was pretty easy
Loved her as a professor! Gives her students a lot of grace and patience. So please do the same!
While Professor Nead organized her work very well through canvas, I'd go weeks without a response from her on email and canvas both. Be prepared if you're taking online classes with her as she does not "water it down" at all. Wish she could've been more supportive as I'd heard she was very good at that, in my case it was very frustrating.
There was a lot of work, but overall it isn't hard if you put in the effort to finish your work in time. I took this course during the summer and the term was shorter than others, so the work is condensed into a smaller timeframe so there was a lot of work in little time. Good feedback and fair grader.
Prof. Nead was such an amazing and helpful teacher! She was very responsive and gave such good feedback regarding the different work we would submit. The work is very easy if you actually read the textbook ! Would for sure take this class again :)
Took her on the Summer 2021 semester, she was awful. I wasn't able to complete the class due to a medical emergency. I emailed her to let her know that I would not be able to complete her class, she never answered. Would not take her again.
Pick another teacher. Don't even attempt to get in contact with her because you'll never get a response. It seems like she wants her students to fail with the amount of bookwork that feels overwhelming, especially toward the end of the semester. Doesn't put in anything to the grades so be prepared to never know your accurate grade in the class.
If you want to fail the class,
For you :every student so it might be best to avoid her class. She teaches Comm 103, 174, and 176. also takes a long time to grade. I had to drop the class because I've never had a professor like that at SWC.
Professor Nead provides good feedback when grading assignments and participation is a must. Beware that if you have taken a shorter semester; it is imperative that you try to keep up as much as possible as projects are done simultaneously.
just didn't like her, had 3 presentations in the semester very annoying
While the class is certainly an easy A if you do the work, she isn't a great professor. She is very disorganized and expects you to fit into her schedule. There was not enough time for students to prepare for the 3 speeches and all her lectures often stray away from what we're suppose to be learning. For a Comms prof, she's not the best to take.
You barely learn anything from her lectures. I was really looking forward in this class, but she does nothing to keep her students engaged. I recommend not taking her in the morning or you'll fall asleep or maybe skip her class entirely.
I took her online course and I do not recomend her. She doesn't respond fast and her responses has nothing to do with what you are asking. She gives a lot of homework but she does not teach anything, just to read the book and make a lot of pages in Word or PowerPoint. I honestly would not recommend her online course at all.
Your grade is 100% dependent on it (Not counting the 4 speeches) Expects you to do 1 paragraph of what you did in class and how it connects to the chapter (which most times she wont go over it), 15+ vocabulary terms & definition, and 2 paragraph summary of the chapter every week. YOUR FINAL DEPENDS ON IT so you cant get lazy. Rlly overwhelming imo
I took this course for summer. the teacher is nice. She does a lot of group presentations and you have to reach a certain time and you get points off if you don't reach the time or if you go over the time. the homework was very easy for me, but it is a lot of reading the chapters and there are about 20 pages per chapter.
prof. N is a kind person who clearly cares about her students but, she tends to talk a lot without much substance or teaching value. The homework assignments she gives are repetitive, tedious, and very lengthy, yet they are only worth 5 points each. It's frustrating that I am 4 weeks into her class and still haven't got any grades on my work.
Took her last year, little to no feedback from her. When I asked why points were deducted from my speech she replied with I don't know. I was visibly upset by that answer, she THEN explained that she took away points from my speech bc she assumed I altered a list. I could not defend myself bc she sent the feedback on the last day. Do NOT take.
I really enjoyed this professor, she makes the class feel comfortable with each other. She does tend to talk a lot without relating to the lecture, honestly we actually learn 15% of the class period, there are three MANDATORY presentations but they are simple, however you MUST reach a time requirement for a proper grade. lots of reading, few points
She is nice, friendly, understanding. Her lectures can get sidetracked and she will get into her personal life, sometimes even in ours. She did a lot of group presentations that were fun and easy.
Went online for the summer, had so many pointless assignments every 2 days and many presentations where you have to find an audience so if you're alone in your area with no family good luck! After final we still had papers to do and extra non sense that we already covered. She responded fast and was very kind. Easy A if hard working. Easy grader.
I took Nead this semester for public speaking, and felt a bit conflicted about her teaching style. It's hard to word this because she is very kind and accommodating, but her lectures were very lackluster and she often trailed off and talked about herself. Lots of textbook homework weekly, but she's an easy grader for the big speeches at least.
