Fantastic prof. Although a PHd student currently, Ms. P teaches at Grant Mac as well and is extremely respectful, polite, and brings a positive energy into the room. Marks papers herself and provides mounds of feedback as well as personally gets to know everyone. Highly recommend a class with Ms. Prusko!
TAKE THIS CLASS WITH RACHEL! she is extremly nice and welcoming! I never liked english before and wasnt that good at it but finished with a B+. She usually goes over a reading for two classes depending on how long it is. No midterm, only 2 essays and an in-class final. HIGHLY recommened!
I had Rachel for my first semester of university ever. She is warm, welcoming, kind, and promotes active learning and discussion in class without being confrontational or forceful. I highly recommend her for those who don't typically do the best in English, as the workload is minimum and she is a fairly easy marker. Three words: take her class!!!
Dr. Prusko is awesome!! The class requires a bit of work as there are reading for every class but she gives out a lot LESS work than other profs! I really enjoyed her and she is one of the most helpful profs ever!! She answers emails in such a detailed manner and helps with essays! Loved her! Try to get in her class!!!
Rachel is amazing. She's clear, helpful, engaging, and a very fair essay marker. She respected her students and loved to talk with us. She chose interesting books (Frankenstein and I Henry IV) and multiple poems. LOVED her. 70%-participation, two essays, mini quizzes. 30%-final. TAKE HER CLASS.
great prof! she's very friendly to approach and emails back with great detail. I recommend seeing her prior to and after essay's as she will give insight and direction to where your essays need to be going. Class was fun and interesting.
Awesome teacher, very straightforward class with lots of discussion, it would be a challenge to get less then a B if you even just minimally apply yourself
Rachel is super nice and is passionate about what she teaches. She leads discussion really well and is always willing to help a student. Her choice of stories are interesting and easy to read. loved her!
Rachel is such a sweetheart - I definitely recommend her! She picked great texts and was an easy marker. She was very approachable in getting help and very reasonable.
Rachel is an amazing teacher. She is such a fun loving person and easy to get along with. Recommend you take her classes!
great prof, go to office hours and get feedback on essay ideas for high marks. easy marker and lots of fun
There are easier English courses than this with better professors, take those. Drop this class if you have it, you will be better off without it.
I'd like just like to say Rachel was a gem. She was great all semester and always ready to help. She genuinely wants to hear what you have to say on a topic and encourages that kind of class interaction. WRS is unusually formatted compared to a regular English class, so I've heard anyways. It was my first Uni Englishwriting course. No regrets.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. She was very clear in what you needed to get a good mark and she was very helpful at providing feedback on your papers.
Rachel is a wonderful instructor. She genuinely cares about the subject and makes the material engaging through class discussion. The coursework was straightforward and it was clear what was expected of her students. Great feedback and super easy to get a hold of. Yoooo she's so chill and funnay. I would take a class with her again in a heartbeat!
Rachel was an amazing instructor and so helpful through all the stages of learning and writing throughout the class. I would definitely take a higher level course with her again. If you want to improve your writing, and even just get a better grasp on the process, take this course with Rachel!
papers graded tough, pre-med killer more suited for english majors, destroyed my gpa
LOVED her. By far one of the best profs I've had. Definitely take her class !
Rachel is the best prof I have had so far at the U of A. She facilitates great class discussions, is super down to earth and willing to help you out! Take her class if you can.
Dr. Prusko is a fantastic professor, especially for senior-level courses. She marks quite fairly, is very helpful, and great at explaining the material. She also happens to be hilarious and a big ol' sweetheart.
Best English professor I've had, honestly. She is amazing. Extremely helpful and welcoming.
Rachel is a great professor. She is very passionate about what she teaches and it makes for great lectures. She's everything a good prof should be: helpful, reasonable, fair, and completely brilliant. She's such a teddy bear. Take her class. Seriously.
Rachel knows how to engage a class and create an inviting atmosphere. Every comment is taken seriously, encouraging students to participate. Lectures are student led- if there's an aspect of the text that a student finds interesting, she'll take time to discuss it. Restored my faith in the English department, she's a great person and professor.
Rachel is the best English professor I've had so far! Her lectures are engaging and rather her talk at you, she bases her lecture on the students' questions and comments. Shakespeare is one of my new loves, and it is all thanks to this lady!
She's a passionate teacher and is always up for a debate in class. She is very understanding regarding extensions and is nice enough on final grading!
I hate English, but I love Rachel, and she made me love literature. She's caring and understanding, and she absolutely wants you to succeed. Use her office hours to discuss your projects and her marks: she does whatever she can to help you do well and earn a good mark. Projects are hard: you must fit in lots of content into a few pages. But good!
I absolutely loved having Rachel as an English prof! An actual gem. She is a bit of a tough marker when it comes to papers but gives you amazing feedback to improve. Helpful after class, during class, and even in emails. I got her to give me feedback on papers by email before handing them in. Your writing will definitely improve over the term!
Rachel is an amazing prof who is patient throughout the term. I would absolutely take her course again if I have a choice.
I would love to take another class with this sweet, caring and hilarious prof! Rachel made her lectures very engaging and found creative ways for us to participate in class. Absolutely love her!
Honestly a really great professor, amazing lecturer, but her expectations are pretty high. Don't take if you hate English but otherwise go for it.
really enjoyed her class, she doesn't make English feel like a heavy class- although you should stay on top of the readings and articles. Don't skip the important classes because she talks a lot about what she expects/ gives good ideas. posts everything on eclass. tough grader so I would work really hard on the papers you hand in (no final)
Dr. Prusko is seriously, hands down the greatest prof I have ever taken. She is so kind and understanding and makes class fun. I'm notorious for skipping class but actually showed up to every single one because she made it interesting. 1000000% recommend taking her for English!!!
I highly recommend this professor. She was very helpful and provided examples of past work. She allowed us to be creative in our writing and explore may topics in regards to the books. Your grade is made up of inksheds, class participation, two essays (one being a big research paper) and a bibliography in MLA style.
Rachel was great. She's super kind and caring, which made the class enjoyable. I will say that attendance isn't mandatory as most classes were just discussing the readings so I missed a few when I felt comfortable. She gives good feedback on essays, and the final was pretty easy!
Rachel was a lovely professor, and you can tell she is very interested in what she teaches - especially Shakespeare. She left very useful comments on the essays which definitely helped me improve. The only small annoyance was having to do a group project. And annoyingly she treated everyone like they were fresh out of high school.
I LOVED rachel. She is by far the best english teacher i have ever had. She gives you excellent feedback, and gives great tips on how to improve your writing. Relatively easy course, only 4 assignments, and one was a group project. Would highly recommend.
Personally, I'm not good at English, so I can't really judge on difficulty, but she made the class great and had awesome feedback. She has casual but super useful class discussions, taking a few classes to talk about the details of each novel we study, which is extremely useful for the essays. As a person, she is very approachable and caring :)
The best prof I have taken so far. In high school, English was always my worst and most hated subject, however, it was by far my favourite course I took last semester. Rachel does an amazing job engaging the class. A tip if you are taking her class: Ask for feedback! She is really good at setting clear expectations. Overall amazing prof
Rachel was a wonderful prof! I always enjoyed going to her class, and the books she chose for us were interesting and not too difficult.
funny and cool, but expects participation in class and there is lots to read
Rachel is a super friendly and understanding professor. She tries her best to make lectures interesting and is clear about what she expects in assignments. Templates and examples are provided for each assignment so there is no reason for anyone to be confused in her class. Highly recommend!
She's great. Her quizzes are easy marks and the stories she chooses to cover are interesting. Her essay assignments can seem intimidating, but if you go to her for help, she gives great feedback and makes it easy to get a good grade. The only annoying thing was the group project.
Rachel is awesome! By far my favourite prof in the English department. Take her class if you can! She makes otherwise difficult texts into a legitimately enjoyable experience, and does her best to foster a really positive, inclusive atmosphere.
Simply awesome. Made a class I was expecting to hate and made it fun. The plays selected are varied and interesting. Class discussion is awesome and the assignments are extremely fair. You will read 7 plays, which is a lot but less than the average. The book is not needed, but it does help too have easy access to play interpretations.
Rachel was genuinely an amazing professor and made me love the class that I was dreading to take my entire degree. I absolutely hated Shakespeare before taking this class and that has changed. There are 7 plays you will cover, not the super popular ones but they are really good! The class discussions are really interesting + collaborative!
Rachel is an amazing prof. I hate English, but her English class was my favorite. Her teaching style is really great because she let's her students have a lot of freedom. ALSO NO FINAL loll for Engl 103 at least. Very fair marker. I recommend talking to her about your topics/ideas because she will tell you exactly what she wants.
Great prof! Caring especially during the pandemic of COVID-19, a good sign of a prof that actually cares about students. Mix of essays, presentations, informal writings and good reads! Grades fairly and clear expectations.
Dr. Prusko is a kind person and great teacher. She gives good feedback and is always helpful with any questions. There is only 1 hour long synchronous lecture per week and the rest of the material is on eclass. If you read the 2 novels and put in the effort for the 3 essays you'll be set for a good grade. There is no final for this course too.
I like her, but I can never tell what I'm losing marks on in my essays. We've done two now, and I've gotten above average for both, however she'll take off marks for things that just don't make sense to me, and she does not provide a rubric for you to see which categories to improve on. I'd prefer a much more straightforward professor, thank you..!
Dr. Prusko is an amazing prof and I would highly recommend taking her class! She gives clear feedback and instructions. But most importantly shes super caring for her students and their well being. She never gave a heavy work load and gave lots of time for assignments. I really enjoyed her class considering I am not strong in the subject english.
Engl 103 with Dr. Prusko was great! We were assigned 2 novels and 70% of our grade was based on 3 writing assignments in regards to those novels (they were very straightforward though and she gave lots of time to complete them). She always responds to emails and our 1 zoom a week was always great for asking questions. I highly recommend Dr. Prusko!
Her asynchronous work was just unclear powerpoints. Our synchronous discussions were almost always just around 30 minutes too, so nothing was learned at all. There's a lot of self-learning on how to write essays and research. Grading criteria and feedback were very unclear. She was a nice person, but being nice does not make you a good teacher.
Dr. Prusko is an absolutely amazing professor! She cared so much about her students and made online learning enjoyable and engaging! She treats us like real people and not just numbers. She gives great feedback and is willing to answer any questions you have. I loved this class! I would recommend Dr. Prusko to anyone taking an English course.
Prusko is hands down one of the best English professors (or teachers) I have throughout my educational career. Although the class is asynchronous, our live meetups during Fridays are fun. She has this homelike aura that makes you feel at ease despite all the uneasiness during online classes. She also gives great feedback! Definitely recommended!
Dr. Prusko is probably one of the best english profs I've had so far. Always gives lots of great feedback, super willing to help with whatever questions you have, etc. If you can take an English class with her, do it,! I'd definitely recommend her!
I love Rachel! She is an amazing prof who is entertaining in lectures and is also insightful on the material discussed. There was a few short readings and two books in the class. We were graded on short easy, factual quizzes, 2 essays, a few small writing assignment based on completion, and a group project. She is kind and my favourite prof so far
I have mixed feelings about Dr. Prusko. I think her lectures were alright but sometimes the material taught would be way too abstract and often not make sense (even for an English class). Her marking however is extremely unfair. It seems the substance doesn't matter but it's how nice and poetic you write that will get you the A.
Dr. Prusko was the kindest and most approachable prof ive had so far. Its very clear she wants you to succeed and her feedback is very comprehensive, so youll know where you can improve. Personally was not the biggest fan of the books she chose for the topic but a lot of people in the class liked it, so thats just my opinion
Great and engaging professor who gives amazing feedback! She is for sure not an easy marker but is fair. If you work on the problems she points out in your writing/ initial essay, you'll get a good mark. Super caring and nice too, fostering an inclusive environment.
She's great.
I find her lectures very hard to understand and ambiguous. She asked questions to discuss in class but never completely answered them. I can't believe nobody mentioned the final: 2 hours to write 3 passages and 1 essay and didn't know the questions beforehand. As an international student, this is the most difficult class for me so far.
She is a great prof with a very easy class. She taught concepts well and engaged with the class. I hate english but she made it bearable.
Very fun class. She genuinely wants you to do your best and therefore provides excellent feedback, in and out of class!
Dr. Prusko is amazing! Very passionate, educated, and kind. She is lovely and so helpful!
I find her lectures very hard to understand and ambiguous. She asked questions to discuss in class but never completely answered them. I can't believe nobody mentioned the final: 2 hours to write 3 passages and 1 essay and didn't know the questions beforehand. Worst class ever!
I joined this class on the last possible day. Despite joining so late, I felt at home the second I walked into Prusko's class; I knew I would see her class out. Her class has been full of so many rich and enlightening conversations, the books were so fun to read and discuss. I cannot wait to join another of her classes. THANK YOU SO MUCH DR.PRUSKO
Rachel is amazing! workload is manageable and she grades fairly. Participation is 5% of your grade. Lots of class discussions about the texts which I found very helpful for gaining insight and ideas when we later had to write on them. She is also super understanding and accommodating. Goes out of her way to make sure her students are taken care of.
Rachel is genuinely the best English professor I've ever had while studying at the U of A. The texts she chose were interesting and generated incredible discussions. Her warm and kind disposition made it so easy to share ideas and thoughts. f you're thinking about taking a class with her, this is your sign to DO IT!!!
She is really accommodating and an excellent teacher
Rachel is the best prof Ive ever had:) I had her for engl 103 and engl 299. She's so kind, gives good feed back, fair marker and also extremely accessible via email. All the readings she gives are really enjoyable. would definitely recommend taking her class if you can!!!
Rachel is great! She was very respectful, funny, and considerate. She is a bit of a harsh marker for essays, but she gives great feedback. We had three essays: the first on a short story, the second on a novel, and the third was a part of the final. Her lectures rely heavily on group participation, amazing prof for an intro course!
Amazing professor , was on of the best classes i attended this semester. She gives reading material but its very easy to cope up with , and the essays are easy with a long deadline. The final exam has the topics listed to practice and those guaranteed come. 100% recommended
She is an amazing professor and i would love to take her classes for other English courses.
amazing prof, couldn't recommend her enough, if you get lucky enough to take one of her classes make sure you pay attention and listen to her notes.
She is so nice and energetic. English is not my strong suit but she gives amazing feedback. There was one group project which was actually really fun. GO TO HER TO REVIEW YOUR ESSAYS, it will lead you to write better and have a better grade. There were daily readings discussed in class, but most were very short and took less than 30 mins to read.
I would say the best prof for ENGL 199 by far if you get her as her prof then just thank god for that. She understands the students and tries to help them in the best way she can.
The readings were absolutely enjoyable (dystopia as a genre). The class felt so communal. Very sweet professor that actually cares for the students and what they have to say. The assignments were totally manageable with her help! Took class in spring, pacing worked for me. TAKE THIS PROF FOR ENGLISH! You will not regret it, and actually learn!
As a science student who fears/hates English, this class was enjoyable. We focused on dystopias, and even with the condensed spring semester I felt I had a reasonable amount of time to get things done. This is the best I have ever done in an english class - if you listen to her feedback and do the exercises, you can do well. Highly recommend her!
Dr. Prusko is an amazing prof. She is very understanding when it comes to extensions and illness. I highly recommend attending class since her lectures are very fun and entertaining.
took this for engineering, she was really helpful throughout the whole semester. The class itself wasn't very difficult, the only problem was that 40% of the grade came from 2 in class 20 question quizzes. great caring prof who understood how much work we had and tried to be mindful.
amazing. im not a very good writer but she did many writing exercises during the lectures and they were super helpful for laying out ideas for assignments. she graded fairly and gave amazing feedback. she was super caring and tried to get everyone to participate. she seemed to really enjoy the topics, which brought a great vibe to each class.
Dr.Prusko is kind and knowledgeable in English, however attendance in lectures is unnecessary even though there are participation marks. Our topic this sem was dystopia and while one book was great and easy to write on, the other was terrible and picked because she likes the author. She is a critical marker and often goes back on what was said.
She was so kind and we did dystopia which I absolutely love. She was very passionate during our lectures and she understood when we were tired and whatnot. She grades a little harder than other profs I know but I felt like her grading was relatively fair.
super kind. gave awesome feedback on essays. super understanding with ANYTHING. take her class. lectures weren't always necessary to go to, but she has days laid out on her syllabus so u know what classes DO count for participation grades. very organized and awesome basically. no downsides to this woman
As someone who had an AWFUL experience with English classes since high school, Rachel made the class understandable. As a STEM major, English really isn't my forte. She explains things very well, majority of resources are on Canvas but you may have to buy a book (if you can't grab it at any EPL or a PDF online). Get into her class if you can!!
I had a great experience in her class. Not too much homework and essays are from home except for the final, which wasn't bad as she marks it as if it was a draft. Highly recommend going to her office hours to ask questions and get feedback on your papers as you work on them. She gave me good ideas and was always very nice and considerate.
One of the best professors I've had. She was so kind and always open to answering all our questions. She valued our opinions in class and made it such a fun and respectful environment.
Really, really understandable and good prof.
Dr. Prusko's lectures were a great start to my day, as someone who is a night owl and had to take an 8:00am class with her. They are engaging, well-paced, and informative. Good amount of assignments with clear instructions and fair marking. She's a complete sweetheart who genuinely cares about the success of her students as well.
Dr. Prusko is extremely caring and fun! Her classes are discussion heavy and often implore students to discuss course readings together. The essays were take-home but this came with positives and negatives. For instance, they were critiqued very heavily and she looked for small mistakes which impacted your grade heavily. Communication is easy tho.
She's pretty fair with extensions. You do have to pay attention in class, and sometimes the discussions in class were vague. I wish her final was different, an entire essay plus annotated passages after we already had 2 take home essays and multiple inksheds!! I felt that when I asked her for feedback it felt kind of vague. She is caring though!
A really good professor, wants to help and the course is not difficult. I didn't like English classes in high school but her class was very easy to follow. Different opinions on literature felt valued. Attendance is mandatory because you could miss in-class assignments if you don't attend, but if you email her beforehand she's very understanding.
Lots of class readings and a couple of essays, but they are supplemented by participation and small writing marks. The class was based on discussions, but the prof was very open to new interpretations and created a good environment for sharing. Probably as good as a required english class can get.
Prusko is an amazing prof! She sets a clear grading criteria and is always available for help sessions. If you take English, take it with her
Always answers emails, really nice and gives great, detailed feedback. Very educational class and loved participating in discussions. She's pretty fair on grading, but it can be hard to get into the As, so don't leave your essays to the last minute since they're more or less your entire grade.
