She's really easy to work with and will let you make up stuff if you're really honest with her.
Easy class! Very liberal.
No matter which course she teaches, she's by far the most helpful and informative teacher among the English teachers. It's hard to get an A, but hard to fail the class too.
This woman will load you with so many handouts. Be prepared to get 15 handouts each day. Her grading is easy though.
There isn't much work except for the essays 3 out of class, 3 in class, easy grader. She wants you to find help for yourself, don't ask her for it. Basically an easy class especially for 101A.
She is very nice and loves class discussions. So if you tend to have an opinion on what you read then take this class. There is 3 out of class essays and 3 in class. She is good about reminding you of dates and whatnot as well.
GOOD ENGLISH TEACHER. she knows what she is doing. she gives little homework, but most of the homework is altogether. in otherwords, to much at one time. just take the class.
An Excellent Teacher...Love going to the class and seeing her passion for teaching.
She is very nice and clear. I learned alot in her class. Just let her know if you need help and she'll make up time to help you for sure. It's not an easy class but if you attend her lectures and show her your papers before the due date and ask for help, you'll get an A like me.
She is just so cool, she lets you write about what you want. She wants you to write about things you are passionate about.
Fakest bubbley personality ever.Either that or annoying. Will act nice, but probably hates you, or herself. Book was boring, about glorfiying suvs, mcdonalds, and other arogant things. Will keep you late or to the minute every time. Easy Easy grader.
Ms. Sherman is very understanding and kind. She assigns a lot of journals for all of the short stories the class reads but gives us plenty of days to finish it. Due dates for hm are never the next day.Students get at least 2 days to submit homework. Her sense of humor is a bit dorky but she is a sweetheart and posesses the warmest, friendliest vibe
Sherman is a nice talkative teacher, very often postponing everything in syllabus coz' she's talking too much, hehehe. Helpful too, especially in revising your essay. So, it's better if you can write ur papers in advance. Then she also gives bunch of HWs, 1 in-class essay, 2 quizzes from a reading, 3 big papers. She teaches analyzing a reading well
The nicest teacher at Ohlone hands down. She's willing to work with you if you just ask.
I cant stand her! She does a very poor job on giving students feed back
Mrs. Sherman is very nice and very helpful especially when it comes to editing essays and papers. She gives very useful and helpful feedback on how to improve your essay and has made me an excellent writer!
This class sucks a big one. I don't reccommend you take it.

Not very organized. Don't take his class.
Sherman is a very unorganized professor. She needs to work on her time management and return students work so that they know where they stand in the class. I advise you not to take her class.
She seems nice but she isn't. You cannot learn anything from her and neither from your mistakes since she gave back most of my work (6 writings) at the final test. You don't know your grade as well until the day of the final.
she gots so many assignments to do. and she grade the essay so tight, and your grammar errors. acturally u don't your grade until your final week. don't take her class.
Really fun class. The people in the class made the class more interesting. She had an interesting presentation assignment and she's easy to talk to during her lab hours.
well.not take her class. grade so tight and boring.not easy to pass.
Loved her class took it over the summer and got an A. She is fun and I felt her assignments were not asking too much when compared to other Eng 101A instructors. She is my favorite English teacher at Ohlone.
She is a really easy grader. For a lot of her finals and such she gives you in class essays. You don't really learn anything new in the class, but compare to the other English teachers at Ohlone, she has too be the least hardcore. I completely reccomend her.
I took three of her classes, I have to say I have never met an English teacher, that encourged me to be a teacher myself. She is easy. She gives a lot of work but it's easy. She tells you what to write, you just have to put it in your own words. I highly recomend her to anyone who is struggling to move on with english.
Awesome teacher. She conducts great topics during class discussions. I took her for Eng 151A/B and Eng 101A. She inspired me to write with an open mind and to 'think outside the box'. I advise other students to take her class.
She is a great professor.. I missed so many of her classes cause i got in an accident but she is so understanding and gave a second chance to pass the calss. Which i probably will...I highly recomend her..
Some of her discussion were pointless, and long. She is a great teacher no doubt, very helpful and kind. Highly recommended...
She is very helpful.
Mrs. Sherman is aery good teacher take her class, and you will learn a lot.
This class was challenging for me, but I enjoyed it. She has high expectations for her students so don't expect to come and slack off. You will read about a lot of interesting topics like the advertising, pop culture, gender stereotypes etc. She is an understanding teacher who is willing to help. She canceled many assignments so as not to overload.
Ms. Sherman is an energetic and fun teacher. In her class you'll learn about semiotics and how to read the underlying meaning of people's work. I do not think she was an easy grader, because I had to work hard for my grade. Understand she’ll give you clear instructions and offers help when you need it. What more is there to ask?.
Ms. Sherman is a great teacher! She's nice, and willing to answer your questions. She goes off topic alot, but the discussions are fun and entertaining.
This class was very hard for me, but I liked it. Even though She is a tough grader, she will help you a lot. You will learn a lot in her class. She canceled many assignments, and I highly recommend her. Too bad that she is not teaching 151B anymore, so I'll have to take this class with another teacher.
she is an interesting teacher to say the least.. she grades really hard.. most of her discussions are way off topic, it took 4 weeks to get to student introductions and alot of the assignments ended up getting cancelled just b/c we ran out of time.. shes very blunt but will give you help if you ask
SHE'S HORRIBLE AT RETURNING WORK.. I DONT KNOW HOW SHE EXPECTED US TO LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES WHEN WE NEVER GOT BACK ANY OF OUR WORK TILL THE LAST DAY OF CLASS. SHE GOES OFF TOPIC TO MUCH.. ITS HARD TO FINISH ANYTHING THAT SHE ASSIGNS CUZ SHE'S ALWAYS CHANGING HER AGENDA AND CANCELING ASSIGNMENTS ALL THE TIME. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER.
Very interesting class. She does get off topic sometimes, but trying to keep information relevant and interesting to her students. Takes some time to get back papers. Definately would take this professor again
She isn't hard, but she had something against me. I still got a B. She is unorganized, and she is pretty stupid. (No offense, but it is true.)
She's a pretty good teacher, her class is interesting though I would say. Just that she would return essays back at the end of the semester so you wouldn't really know what mistakes you made and what you need to correct
Her class is fairly easy if you do your work. She is pretty spacey though and tends to get off topic a bit. She also talks like she's out of breath but whatever :). Work out of the book a lot but it's not super boring. She's not a hard grader, just don't expect to get your work back for a while. Comfortable atmosphere, good class, fairly easy.
If you need structure and organiztation from a class she's not the teacher for you.Her class is fairly easy and shes not a hard grader, shes just extremely unorganized; she doesn't stick to the syllabus at all (always changing or getting rid of dates) and hands back papers at the END of the semester. She does like to rear super off topic.
I don't know where all these other comments are coming from about her being "good". You do all the things she asks and she still gives you a bad grade DO NOT TAKE HER. "Why did I get a C on a paper you didnt mark?" Sherman: IT WASN"T ORGASMIC. WTF? BAD WORST teacher ever. And this is coming from an AP student in High school who received a 4.
I took her class because of the reviews left on here, but its very misleading. Her class is extremely boring. On top of that her grading doesn't make sense whatsoever. I usually get good grades on writing yet she gave me many low C's as a result I ended up with a C in her class which Im not too happy about. She also seem a bit ****, BAD JOKES
I'm not sure why people put her as an easy professor...She is a tough grader, seriously, she never gives anyone an A, and I'm a 4.0 student, but got B- for all my papers. TOUGH GRADER NO JOKE!!!. She is helpful when you ask for help...in her class you do: 3 papers, 3 in-class essays, and A LOT of presentations, mostly goup presentations.
Sherman was a really nice English teacher. She was always willing to help/read drafts of papers during her office hours. She is a little bit crazy and missed a bunch of classes but one can definitely get a B if not better in her class. Go ask her for help for essays and she will be there!
It's a bit of a boring class but then again all English classes are. Her grading is weird, I got a bunch of marks on one of my papers but still got a 30/35. She will help you I'll give her that but you can definitely do better than Ms.Sherman. But also worse.
she is the worst teacher ever, she makes no sense, her grading is weird, and you do the most useless in class assingments. she talks a lot and makes bad jokes. if your looking for a good teacher dont take her clas.i feel like i didnt learn anything in this class.
She is a really nice professor and her lectures are pretty clear. She does expect you to do college level writing which is understandable. She provides a lot of help on essays and assignments. The only thing that i would have to complain about is that she changes the assignment dates a lot. Overall a very helpful and good teacher
She's a great teacher. I took her Environmental Literature because I love english. She made re-reading Frankenstein enjoyable. Take her and all these comments about her being a horrible teacher are probably people who want an easy C. She's a good choice.
She's an ok teacher. Took her environmental class. One thing that she does not do is pass back work and it's super annoying! It was finals week and I wanted to know my grade to see how bad or good I have to do on the final and she had not graded half of the things we had turned in. You don't know if you need to improve or not.
Although, sometimes the class was a little boring, I enjoyed having Ms. Sherman as a professor. She was extremely helpful. I did not like though that she waited until the day or two days before a paper is due, to go over the readings that she wanted quotes from. Her jokes weren't all funny, but when she kind of giggled to herself, it was funny.
I took the summer semester and there was a lot of reading but we broke it up into groups so we didn't have to read a lot. We used the textbook a lot and had quizzes that were responses to those readings. There's a presenation you have to do and three essays about 4-6 pgs long. Pretty clear on what to do each week
worst class you ever take .. very bad prof. dont take her class ... she is not helpful at all
She's a nice lady and all but she's so boring going to her class was just downer of your day. The class wasn't hard you do have homework a couples times a week that you must do! You only have 3 papers though which is nice. Take her to get an easy grade but if you want a fun class look else where.
She's very helpful with clear smart questions, don't waste her time and she wont waste yours
If you arrive late to class, she'll call you out on it. She'll have you discuss readings often. Hands out a lot of papers and homework, but with effort you can do well in the class. Two papers, annotations, presentation (while sitting in your seat), and a research paper. Length of paper vary from 3 pages to 7. Not too bad.
Attend class and do the work. She doesn't grade you on your actual writing too harshly, but you absolutely need to make sure that you are citing sources correctly and your formatting and grammar are on point. She will dock for those. Otherwise, just organize your papers very well and keep up with the readings from the text. We used them a lot!
This class was by far the most DIFFICULT classes I have ever taken. I worked very, very hard but I received a C when I was aiming for an A. Attendance is MANDATORY, so don't pick a time you won't be able to make it to. Only take this class if your willing to work harder then ever, and you still may not get the grade you wanted. WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Getting an A is very easy—granted that you already have a solid foundation in English. She tends to go on tangents and frequently laughs at her own jokes (which are very rarely funny) but she's a decent professor. I don't think I ever looked forward to the class, but it definitely wasn't horrible.
She is a pretty good teacher. There is alot of reading and writing but she makes it all pretty interesting I would take her again.
This class is no joke! Extremely difficult. I took English 101B and English 101C afterwards and I got A's in both classes!! I am warning you guys about her. Do try to find a different English professor.
made a ratemyprofessor account just to leave this review. she is hands down the worst teacher i have ever had in my life. she grades extremely and unnecessarily hard, and she is very unfair. I was going through some troubles at home while attending this class and she accused me of lying and making up stories. horrible teacher and person.
She gives a lot of group readings and informal group presentations and outlines. I'm not sure if they ever really counted for a grade. I didn't really have a problem with her grading but some of my classmates said she grades really hard. She focuses a lot on properly citing your sources so pay attention to that. She's pretty nice.
Ms. Sherman makes her grading criteria very clear and is one of the most organized teachers I have seen thus far. She gives out a lot of busy work and be prepared to read a lot. She is very picky and intricate when grading essays and grades pretty hard.
Super easy class, as long as I turned in the assignments, I got an A with feedback. I don't know why everyone is complaining about how she is a hard grader.
Professor Sherman is a pretty tough grader. I tend to get low B's on a lot of my tests and quizzes. Although she gives you a mediocre grade, she always writes that you did really well on the feedback, which is kind of weird. Going to class is mandatory so don't pick an 8am with her if you're not an early bird.
okay, so first of all she is really boring. she talks on and on about the same thing and we never get anything done. this class was a waste of time for me. she assigns group work BUT it took us about three weeks just for one assignment. she takes FOREVER to grade. the work is straight forward. But she takes forever to finish one assignment.
I had Sherman for 101A and 101C. She really is a tough grader and does not make the class fun and hands out a handful of readings. Do not expect to know your grade during the semester because she takes forever to grade.
Tough grader and does a lot of busy work. My advice is you're not into english don't take this class.
Possibly one of the most easy English classes I have ever taken. That being said, there is a lot of work do not get me wrong. She makes that work easy though by being an organized professor. What that means is she tells you what is going to happen, follows through, and almost knows exactly what you need before you need it. Just try your best.
Shes really good. knows what shes teaching. really organized. but there are alot of work, and reading. To pass, come to class and do the work and reading and youll pass. Tough grader but it helps you improve!
She's an alright teacher. Very organized, but group presentations are required for all the readings. One in class essay for the midterm and only 3 big papers in total. She gives a lot of feedback on all assignments, but is a pretty hard grader. Attendance is also necessary if you don't want to fall behind. Overall she is a pretty helpful professor.
She made my class do one presentation, few group presentations, a lot of short essays, 3 major essays, and one in class essay. You'll be doing a lot of reading & you're gonna need the textbook for your essays. She's a pretty tough grader, but if you go visit her during her lab hours for some advice, you'll improve your grade.
Took this professor for ENG 101A, pretty boring, but passed it. She gives 3 major papers and offers "token" passes for anything due late. Very understanding and caring teacher, she really wants to see you pass and succeed. You will need your book, and most of the reading bored me to death, but were mandatory in order to complete your assignments :)
If English is your second language, do not take it with her. This class is pretty hard, and she is a tough grader. Do not expect to see your grade during the semester because she takes years to grade assignments. A lot of work and readings. Every single assignment is about the "environment". So be prepare.
Awesome teacher. She's really helpful when you ask for it. I always dreaded english class because I don't particularly enjoy writing papers but she made it fun. No big deal if you miss a day here or there as long as you're there most of the time. Gives a moderate amount of work but totally manageable. Plus she's actually pretty cool.
She is a very nice lady and offers a lot of office hours for extra help whenever you need some. The class can be seen as hard for some people, but if you go and get help when you don't understand something, you will be fine. You just have to show that you can write and understand the readings done in class. She is not that bad of a professor.
Really nice professor took her for English 101A. I usually hate English but shes pretty lenient when it comes with work as long as you show some effort.
I have to send her extra emails to convince her give me a late added opportunity. She is a great professor, responsible and patient. Her lecture and homework is clear and easy to understand. She is willing to help if I need extra.
Professor Sherman is responsible and clear. She is also kind, but not in such a way that you could take advantage of her kindness. She doesn't give A's easily, but her instructions are clear and she gives opportunities to hand work in late, but still get full credit, just in case something comes up.
She's a nice person, but quite lazy in her teaching style. Always doing cheap group activities to kill time. Definitely be ready to write about things you don't care about. I did learn some stuff about the environment, which was different for an English class. Just wasn't a good fit for me.
Pretty easy class, there are 3 major papers and then other smaller assignments; sometimes takes MONTHS to grade stuff. She also doesn't actually teach or lecture in class, she just talks about assignments and has students discuss readings amongst themselves, so it's pretty unnecessary to go to class. Very nice women and her grading is very fair.
Prof Sherman is a true gem! She is so cute and caring and so funny! Going to her class was something I looked forward to! Her workload was so manageable and she canceled many assignments throughout the semester. We had 2 major papers and little assignments here and there. Easy class! Attendance not mandatory, however, you should go to class.
Super kind, super funny, super lenient. She understands when you're going through stuff and can't get assignments in on time, and will compensate for you. Her class is pretty easily paced workload-wise and she's a super entertaining person
She is soo polite and patient. She helps you with everything you need. Very understanding and caring teacher. take her you wont regret it
Truly a caring professor. She makes video comments on our work which feels a lot more personal. She has a great personality and has made the material easy to understand. After taking this class my writing skills have really improved. 10/10 would recommend just turn in work on time and put in good effort and youll be fine in her class
Professor Sherman's online class is amazing. Besides the major essays, the only assignments really were the discussions every week. As for the major essays, her feedback is really helpful as she sends you a video of her proofreading your essay. As long as you follow her feedback, it should be easy to get an A in her class.
The online class was super easy! One discussion a week based on article(s). 2 papers and gives good feedback through videos and comments. Easy class, just do the work.
I took her online class and it was great! We had discussions due weekly on Sundays which allowed me more than enough time to complete them even with my other heavy load classes. We had two major papers but you turn in rough drafts and she gives great video feedback on how to improve the rough drafts. Overall, she is a great teacher!
I took Professor Sherman for online English, and it wasn't so bad! She grades our essays and other major papers and gives us a video feedback on it which is super helpful. There are discussions due every week, sometimes one or two assignments. If you want a good English professor online, take her!
Professor Sherman lets you decide what grade you want to get. If you do all assignments, you get an A, miss one or two get a B, etc. All discussion posts and you have to respond to another student's post. Must read 2 books through the semester, 3 for an A. Had to go on zoom calls with her where you read over your posts and she comments on them.
I loved Professor Sherman's class. The grading was to the point, you know exactly what you need to do to get the desired grade. You read between 2-3 books during a semester, but it is spread out enough to where it is no longer overwhelming.
do not take her class!! before I took it I looked at reviews and they were misleading. she has wayyy too many requirements for each thing she assigns and is very strict about it. I had a passing grade but it was not a good class and i would not recommend it with her.
Weekly Discussion posts for Eng-101C. Readings MUST be done and write a discussion post about it. She requires 3 zoom meetings to be eligible for an A, and requires minimal to no major revisions on the discussion posts. She also provides feedback for your posts. Overall, an amazing professor. Very caring and understanding. I love her!!!!
Professor Sherman had very clear grading criteria. You basically get to choose your grade. Do all the work, get an A; miss one week, get a B, etc. The class is structured so that you have one discussion a week, but this "discussion" is basically an essay a week. However, she doesn't grade them, she just marks them as complete. I liked the structure
Prof Sherman is great! She lays everything out in her syllabus, make sure to read it thoroughly. She has many opportunities to make up a grade and her grading style is very unique. Pretty much its choose your own grade by the amount of work you complete. Overall a very easy class if you just do the readings and weekly discussions.
The class consists of reading assigned chapters from a book that she provides a pdf for, and then a discussion post that is due on Sunday. She doesn't do letter grading, instead, you schedule a zoom meeting (3 in total for the semester) with her to discuss if your posts are incomplete/complete and how to improve. She's very sweet and easygoing.
She is a great professor and is really passionate about her work. You read two books, 1 is her choice and 2nd is a memoir. There is weekly discussion with approx 450-500 words but there is a lot of specification so read the assignment (these are like weekly essays). You need to meet online 3 times for an A and she gives really good feedback.
No tests nor quizzes, only homework. Finish all homework assignments for a free A. The homework assignments require quite a bit of reading, so be prepared for that. If you are looking to improve your English writing beyond syntax, I would recommend someone else. Overall a passionate teacher
This is literally the best English Professor/Teacher I ever had. I'm someone who struggles with English and one that doesn't even like to read. However, after taking this class I improved so much when it comes to writing essays and reading. Amazing Feedback!
Free A. Very easy English class. Just read and do your work, she does not grade hard. If you make a mistake, she'll let you fix it in the conferences. Grading is based on completion. You do not need to buy anything for this course.
Weekly assignments from books, she was really sweet and allowed upto 2 weeks for late work with no penalty. Easy A would recommend!
Classes were asynchronous, although a couple of live meetings throughout the semester with the teacher are required. Feedback was very helpful in improving writing, and she gave second chances for every assignment that was done improperly. As long as you complete all the work as per her guidelines, you will get an A+.
Her class was a game-changer for me. She loves teaching, is super friendly, and gave me helpful feedback that boosted my writing skills. Even after the class, I felt more confident in my writing. Her cool teaching style and encouragement made the class awesome. I'd recommend her to anyone looking for a great English teacher.
She's a pretty good prof. The course was online. Her grading is either complete or incomplete. There are 2 conferences where she'll tell you what you should do for your work to be complete. There are 2 books you have to read, and articles and pieces of art you have to connect to the books. No exams, every week you have a discussion and assignment.
There is one essay per week. Must have 2 zoom calls with her, going over your papers. She is very lenient with due dates and allows you to skip 2 essays. There are also 2 readings (one book we get to pick from a list). I dreaded the zoom calls with her but it was pretty chill and she just goes over what can be improved in your essays. Easy A tbh
Easy workload. Each week is an assign. that needs to be at least 450 words. You post that assignment on a discussion board and reply to one student. Her grading is different, but if you turn in everything besides one assignment, you will get an A. Allows late work up to two weeks with no penalty. 2 zoom meetings are required. Free PDFs of books.
Professor Sherman is by far the sweetest professor I have ever met! You basically only write a 450-500 word paper every week but she gives you up to two weeks to turn it in for full credit! No midterm only final and it's an essay about you and your favorite parts of the course. Absolutely loved her! Feedback was amazing as well! TAKE!! Easy A!
Easy A. Would definitely recommend. In 101C this semester, you just had to put in some effort to read the two books (you get to choose the second book) and they were both really interesting. Then you had to do the weekly write-ups, but they were straightforward. She lets you miss an assignment and submit others two weeks late with no penalty!!
Prof Sherman was nice. She grades by either complete or incomplete. She takes time to grade though. There are 2 books that you need to read, art, and articles that she provides. The discussions and homework every week are based on trying to connect the ideas of the material. You need critical thinking skills to find links between the diff material.
Really easy class, just had to do discussions, easy A.
The assignments and writing prompts are very open to interpretation and give the students the choice of how they want to write based on the reading. She gives very straightforward feedback and grades very easily, you have 2 weeks to turn in a late assignment up, highly recommend you take her course, it will save you the stress.
I would recommend Professor Sherman! The workload consists of an assignment where you respond to a prompt with at least 450 words and post that assignment to a discussion board where you have to reply to one student. Grades are either complete or incomplete and you can fix an incomplete assignment based on feedback given. PDFs of books are provided
Course seemed intimidating at first since all assignments are graded credit or non-credit, but very straightforward & manageable. Weekly work of writing 450-500 word responses to prompts regarding class book. Easy grading. Make sure your response meets all the assignment requirements and you'll get credit. Final = 450-500 word self-reflection!
easiest english teacher to exist if u dont take her your dumb fr. i knew people taking music classes that did more work than i was. only con is she will catch your chat gpt and call you out for it so be smart. no tests no quizzes just weekly writings and one final essay 500 words relfecting on ur writing
Professor Sherman's 101C is an easy A. The class involves weekly assignments and discussions, with flexible deadlines and helpful feedback. Unstuckstudy was a great study tool alongside the reading materials. Overall, a straightforward and rewarding course.
I took her online class and I totally recommend you to take online for English if you don't want to spend time attending classes. Although it was an online class, she made sure students were on track and gave feedback for writing assignments by meeting with students online via zoom. At least one meeting with her was mandatory. Generous in grading!
Assignments are clear and easily graded unless you really didn't try, in which case she lets you correct it. Graded off completion, great feedback, and really caring. Let us pick the book we wanted our assignments to be about from a collection. She's that teacher from highschool who you feel bad for because of bad students.
Very easy class. She makes sure that all students have an opportunity to get As, which is nice. However, the only thing she taught about critical thinking and composition was in the first class. Everything was about race, and the primary thing we learned was race. The name of her textbook was literally How to be an Antiracist. Not great at teaching
She expects you to hand write every writing assignment and record yourself doing it on camera because she is against chatgpt. I dont use chatgpt but I find it excessive, kind of like a punishment for living in the world we live in. I would personally rather take a class where I am allowed to type my assignments.
Put in hard work to get an A. The reason why the workload is high is because essays need to be handwritten which takes a few times longer than typing.
I dropped the class as soon as I read the syllabus. She wants you to record yourself writing the essay, you have to scan the room and then read the essay on camera once you're done writing. Just doing way too much for an English class.
Professor grades by completion, so it was one of the easiest classes I've taken. She requires you to read, and everything is mostly handwritten, but it's manageable if you keep up and try. Overall, she's a good professor who gives a lot of chances to correct your work if needed and will give you feedback about your work.
Great prof! I took her accelerated 1001C course, it is SO easy. Grades on complete/incomplete. You need to read & annotate short chapters, then record yourself writing about it. Insanely easy course, you could do a mid job (just follow instructions) and get an A for this course. Cares a lot about students, fast grader, replies to emails very fast.
